Kelsier Achlys's Story

A single man, more of a child really, walked against the flow of people who bustled along the busy sidewalk. Countless people doing countless chores; each one experiencing a day exactly like the one before it. This man wasn't battling the torrent of traffic because he wanted to, nor was he truly walking either. Skipping would be a far better approximation of his activities, however, he was skipping with a destination in mind. Further, this man was playing a guitar, while skipping. An acoustic guitar to be exact. A black faded one, which appeared well loved and often played. The song was Man of Constant Sorrow by the Soggy Bottom Boys, and the man playing it was singing along. A huge smile was plastered on his face as he parted the crowd around him. Music and happiness flowed from him like light from the sun. His presence caused random strangers to sing along, though they couldn't recall the name of the song as soon as he passed. His playing encouraged applause, though his audience soon forgot what they were clapping for. His general demeanor encouraged the smiles of all who saw him, leaving them only with a pleasant memory of someone doing something amusing on their way to work. The boy's name was Payton Larson, though he preferred the name "Page." Page was headed somewhere specific, the Old Titan's Tower. He was planning on hopping on the ferry and taking the ride to the tower, which would be his new home. Page was now an official Teen Titan.

As Page waited in line for the ferry, his right hand traveled down his side into his pocket, fishing out the communicator and the note. Page turned the communicator over in his hand. It's weight wasn't much, but it was comfortable in his hand, almost like it had been built for it. Page re-read the letter, just to make sure, for the fiftieth time, that he wasn't mistaken. Slowly opening the envelope, Page's eyes flew over the letter, taking in its every word, every handwritten stroke, every word.

"Hello young hero. My name is Nightwing. The old Titans and I, in their desire to see their beloved Jump City protected and kept safe, have decided to pass the torch to a new generation of heroes. I, Nightwing, have taken up the task of searching for new heroes. Heroes whose hearts burn for justice. Heroes who are strong and brave. I've searched the whole world over to find five like-minded individuals to whom I can entrust our old position. You have been selected, young hero. Take this communicator and meet up at Titans Tower tomorrow at 10:00 am. This is a great honor hero. Do not disappoint." Page smiled as he read and reread the letter. "Wow. Me, a Titan, who would have ever guessed?" Page thought to himself. Page was ripped from his musings by the ferry's horn.

"We're here kid. You sure you don't want me to stick around? Awful lonely place these days." The old boat's captain said. Though the sailor was old, he was a kind soul, not salty and mean like so many who had gone to sea before him. "No thanks." Page replied, smiling as he pocketed the letter, turning to face the old man. "I'm living here now. Why do you think I brought these bags with me?" Page asked, his massive smile shining bright through the fog. He stepped forward, and reached out his hand for the old sailor to shake. Before he could take his hand away, Page pulled forty dollars out of his bag and slapped it into his hand. "For the company and the kind use of your boat." The man tried to thank Page, spluttering something about how the money in his hand was 5 times the price he usually asked. As Page disappeared off the boat into the fog on the island's beach, he called back to the old man, waving and smiling jovially "Don't worry about it! You need the money more than me, after all, I'm a Titan now!" Page called.

Slowly, Page made his way up the beach to the Tower's huge front doors. The fog wasn't so thick up there, allowing Page a fantastic view of the whole city. "Wow..." Page whispered to himself. Even though it had been overrun by criminals, monotony, and corrupt bureaucracy, Jump City still looked beautiful, shining in the morning sun. Page slowly walked up to the front doors and knocked. "Hello!" He called, setting down his bags, the only thing he was still holding was the case for his guitar. Page never liked to be without it, just in case. "Anyone in there? Hello!" He called once more. Page frowned. "Hmm... guess no one else is here yet."

Page was about to sit when a small camera jutted out of the side of the tower, instantly locking on to him and zooming in on his face. "Identify yourself." Page heard a robotic voice say. "Whoa... Umm... Payton 'Page' Larson. Known in Jump City as Chord, a new Titan." Page fumbled, taken surprise by the camera's sudden request. "Match Confirmed. Present your communicator, young Titan." The camera demanded. "Oh... uh, sure. Here you go." Page said, pulling the communicator out of his pocket and holding it up for the camera to see. "Thank you for your cooperation, failure to do so would have been... unwise. When all five Titans arrive you will meet with Nightwing. For now, take your things inside and await the others. Goodbye." At that, the little camera disappeared into the Tower wall and Page was by himself again. "Huh... that was odd. Well, I guess we should be moving on in." At that, Page picked up his bags and entered the tower, the doors swinging wide to let him in, then closing once he had made it inside. Page carried his things until he found an empty room and deposited them all, save for his guitar.

Page walked through the tower, stumbling upon the auto-shop, the dojo, and finally the kitchen and living room. He was so impressed. The Titans had everything. It was amazing. Since no one else was there, Page just strolled over to the couch, sat down and set his guitar to Acoustic. Luckily, it was the one of the settings Page could play without a power source. After a slight surge in Page's Soul Drive, his body momentarily lined with its blue energy, Page's guitar shifted to it's acoustic form and the drain on his Soul Drive ceased. Page begun playing once more, this time starting with Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash, singing loud and proud.

Shizuka stared at the Titan Tower from atop one of the tallest buildings in Jump City. Theyoung girl had been up there for hours, simply marveling at the giant T that was soon to become her home. She had shoved her letter and communicator in her giant black suitcase, her breifcase sitting securly at her side. Ever since coming from her 'homeland', she had been curious about the tall and silent building. She didn't truly know anyone in the giant village known as Jump City ... so hopfully, these soon roommates would be at least nice enough to ignore her, not torture her. Sometimes, her silence was her worst enemy, but they might grow to get used to it.

The painter looked down at her watch, seeing the time being five till ten 'o clock. Better get a move on. There was no way she could take a normal route and still be on time. Guess I'll make my own way, Shizuka thought. The breifcase that held basically her power opened easily, the sketch pad and 4B pencil removed carefully. It didn't take more than a minute for a motercycle to appear on the paper, then a few more seconds, and it was infront of her. No helmet was necessary for her, knowing her way around the rooftops was easy. . If she did fall, a solution would be just as easy. After her bag was strapped to the back, Shizuka started up the engine and just as soon, she was flying over the edge of the building, falling towards the next building. It seemed artful, the way she drove from rooftop to rooftop. A big finale was in order, and she finally drove off the top of a two story building, landing on the road and forcing a few shocked drivers to lay on the horns and brakes.

Shizuka continued to the bay where she would drive herself to the island.

Once Shizuka arrived at the island, she made her way up to the front doors. A camera shot out of the side of the entrance, "Identify yourself." She stared at the camera before processing what she was supposed to do.

"Shizuka Hiriashi," she said simply.

"Match Confirmed. Present your communicator, young Titan." The camera demanded. Shizuka bent over her bag, digging around for a moment before pulling out the communicator. "Thank you for your cooperation, failure to do so would have been... unwise. When all five Titans arrive you will meet with Nightwing. For now, take your things inside and await the others. Goodbye."

The door opened wide, allowing Shizuka to tow her bags inside. Music was flowing through out the tower, an unfamiliar tune to her ears seeing as she only listened to classical music. It helped her concentrate better than any other genre she had ever heard. She finally made it around a corner, seeing a young man sitting on the couch, singing and playing. He musn't have noticed her and kept playing as she set her things down and sat on the floor, leaning up against the wall.

Kelsier woke up early today. It was a big day after all he'd been invited to join the Titans. He rolled out of bed catching himself on the floor beginning his normal morning workout. Push-ups, Sit-ups, Pull-ups, and various other exercises. Once he finished his work he jumped up and reached over to the bedside table grabbing the exposed electric wires pulling a bit of energy into himself. "Whoo! Alight ready to go this is gonna be great!" He began packing up all of his belongings making sure that everything was in it's proper place. He'd never had much for possessions but what he had he held very dear. He paced everything into his backpack ready to move out. He grabbed his two Chakram shrinking them down into his belt. Once they were secured he grabbed the set of Twin Hoods leaning against the wall. He swung them a few times getting the feel for them then secured them onto his back making sure they were concealed by his cloak. He held his hand out and whistles lightly after a moment a small birdlike creature fluttered over to him and settled on top of his head. "Well Timcanpy it's time to get going we don't want to be late were Titans now." Timcanpy offered a small tweet as Kelsier jumped out of the window landing on the ground below lightly. "Alright let's go!" He started running his goal Titan's Tower. It'd been abandoned since the previous Titans left leading to Jump City becoming slowly more and more corrupt.

He jogged through the city dodging through crowds and jumping over a few cars. "Wow that one was close. It's a good thing I stretched this morning huh Timcanpy?" Another slight tweet was his answer. After a few more minutes he reached the ferry that crossed to Titan's tower. He walked up to the ferry man. "Good morning sir would you be able to take me across to the tower I have a meeting to get to." The ferry man looked up and smiled at Kelsier. "Your not the first one to cross to the Tower today. Come to think of it it was another young man looked about your age. Said something about being a Titan. Think he mighta been crazy far as I know the Titans disbanded a few years ago." "Well your part right. The other Titans disbanded but Robin... I mean Nightwing has decided that we're going to be the next generation of Titans... We're the new protectors of Jump City." They talked for a few more minutes as the ferry approached the island. Once they arrived Kelsier handed the man his charge plus a few extra dollars. "Thank you for the travel and the conversation." Kelsier spun on his heel and started walking up to the doors of the tower. "Identify yourself." Kelsier jumped slightly at the sudden robotic voice. Seeing the camera that had popped out of the wall he cleared his throat and spoke. "Kelsier Achlys." "Match Confirmed. Present your communicator, young Titan." The camera demanded. Kelsier took the communicator out of his pocket and held it up to the camera for identification. "Thank you for your cooperation, failure to do so would have been... unwise. When all five Titans arrive you will meet with Nightwing. For now, take your things inside and await the others. Goodbye." At that, the little camera disappeared into the Tower wall. "Well that was different huh Timcampy?" They grabbed their things and headed inside. Once they'd left their stuff in their room, they didn't quite know what to do. "Guess we're the first one's here, huh Timcampy?" Kelsier wondered out loud. As he was putting away some of his clothes, Kelsier stopped. He stood there a moment, a familiar song had found its way to his ears. "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die." Kelsier walked around the corner into the living room, singing along. "When I hear this whistle blowin' I hang my head and cry." He got around the corner and saw a boy playing the guitar as well as another girl who was standing in the corner. "I love that song one of my favorites. Nice to meet you I'm Kelsier one of the new Titans and this is Timcampy." Timcampy offered another tweet in greeting.

Monica was nervous, nobody ever liked her and she was sure that her new roommates would be the same, but she had an opportunity to help people like Raven had helped her, and she could not pass that up. She mad her way to the tower taking a ferry, the old captain was a little annoyed as he had just made the trip to the tower and now he had to do it again, "Geez, what's with you kids, it's just a damn T." He scolded her, reluctantly taking her money. He ferried her across to the tower in silence, obviously peeved. When she arrived there was no one else there. Monica chuckled. "Crazy old sailor, there's no one here. There was no reason to be such an ass." She thought to herself. Just then, upon reaching the front doors, a camera shot out of the wall and pointed itself directly at her.

"Identify yourself." Monica sighed as she responded. "Monica Crawford, shall be known from here on as Brenna." She all but whispered her actual name, hoping no one heard it.

"Match Confirmed. Present your communicator, young Titan." The camera demanded. She sighed yet again and reached into her pocket pulling out the communicator and holding it up for the camera to see.

"Thank you for your cooperation, failure to do so would have been... unwise. When all five Titans arrive you will meet with Nightwing. For now, take your things inside and await the others. Goodbye."

Monica walked away and sat down some distance away from the other Titans. "That was a waste of time... Who else would be coming here?" She mumbled to herself, eager to find her own room and lock herself away until it was time to go to work. As she entered, she saw two boys and a girl waiting in the lobby. She passed them quietly, trying not to draw attention to herself, content to observe for the moment. One of them was playing an acoustic guitar, "Huh, Johnny Cash, a little to soft for my tastes, too bad, maybe we would have something to talk about, then again no one ever wants to talk to me, why would he be any different" She though to herself as she approached the group. As she reached them, she stood there silently. She didn't know what to say, and she wouldn't have said anything anyway, nodding curtly to the other Titans.

She was not looking forward to being a part of team although she secretly hoped that it would force the others to treat her fairly and maybe she might even make some friends. She remembered when Raven saved her, she had to repay that debt, and since she doesn't know where Raven is she would need to save others to make up for Raven saving her useless life. She then thought of the old Teen Titans, they were all great friends, family even. Monica had never had a family... maybe just maybe there was hope. She smiled as she looked past the little group, out over the bay and at the city beyond.

Lexine, wearing nothing but the clothes provided after her "Birth", stood atop a building tall enough to see the T shaped Tower in the distance. Her large liquid mercury eyes blinked as she took in the sight. Everything in this world was still so strange to her. She was only months old, although she appeared to be 15 or 16. She enjoyed the feeling of the morning wind that blew across her mostly bare body. It made her feel free, and she enjoyed that. She had spent months locked up, being forced to learn about things that did not interest her. She wanted to know more about the world, see all the Cities and meet lots of people. She was friendly and very curious by nature. She smiled as a small bird flew up to the building and landed on the flag pole that jutted out horizontally from the building, chirping at his near by friends. She stepped out onto the base of the pole without hesitation, perfectly balanced as she walked in a straight line towards the small creature. She bent her knees to bring herself down more to it's height when she got close, extending her hand out. The bird had noticed her, but felt no threat from her presence and hopped over to her curiously, then fluttered onto her hand. Lexine giggled as its tiny talons tickled her baby soft skin and stroked it's neck gently before lifting her hand to send it off to its friends. A voice spoke from behind her and she turned to face whom it belonged to.

"Lex, it's time to go. The other Titans should be arriving at the Tower very soon, if not already there." The masked man said, holding out his hand to her as she walked back to the rooftop from the pole to help her in case she needed it, even though he was very aware of her natural extreme reflexes. Lexine blinked in slight confusion as she saw him offer his hand, and took it when she reached him. His hands were rough and leathery; so much different from hers. She was fascinated about how different people were from one another. He smiled at her, and she took in every detail of his face she could see as he did so. She loved seeing different expressions and emotions. She smiled back and stepped onto the cold surface of the roof, glancing over her shoulder at the Tower again. She was so excited to go. The man next to her who had helped her escape told her she was perfect to become a Titan. Innocent, powerful, good by nature even though her purpose she was created for was evil, he knew she was not.

"It is time for us to part ways, you will be in good hands at the Tower my dear girl. Now go, go to your destiny."

And with that, the mysterious man leaped from the building, disappearing from her sight.

Lexine crouched down and peered over the edge, but there was no sign of him. She stood back up to her full height, brushing her brilliant fiery hair behind her ear as her eyes fixated back on the Tower. She closed her eyes and stretched out her arms, concentrating hard. Her fingers spread out like she was about to claw something, the backs of her hands touching. Her brows furrowed as she pictured the front of the Titan Tower, and then began to tear open a gaping hole with her fingers, in which a distorted view of the Tower up close could be seen. Lexine beamed and without hesitation hopped through the portal, appearing in front of the Tower instantly through the hole, which closed behind her. She tucked her hands behind her back in an innocent way and peered up, amazed at the pure size of the structure in front of her. It was amazing. Before she could explore the outside of the building, a camera popped out of a panel, aiming at her. Her eyes widened with delight as she poked her face right up to the lens, curious as to what it was. She jumped back when a voice sprang from some unknown place, looking around for a person, but could find none.

"Identify yourself." The voice commanded, and Lexine blinked, pointing to herself in confusion.

"Me? I am called Lexine." She stated, smiling.

"Match Confirmed. Present your communicator, young Titan." The camera requested. Lexine bit her lip in confusion, then remembered that the man had given her something he said she would need. She pulled out the communicator and held it up, wondering if this is what the voice wanted.

"Thank you for your cooperation, failure to do so would have been... unwise. When all five Titans arrive you will meet with Nightwing. For now, take your things inside and await the others. Goodbye."

She was about to sit down in front of the door, but then heard some noises form within. Without thinking of any dangers, she slipped inside and walked through the entrance way, eventually making to where the voices were coming from. She peeked around the corner and felt her excitement grow at the other Titans before her. She hopped out from around the corner and made herself known.

"Hello!" She chirped and ran over to the first Titan closest to her, which happened to be Page and gave him a large overly affectionate hug. She could not contain her excitement and removed her arms from Page and then made her way around the room so fast, hugging every Titan in the room before they could even react, except for Monica, whom she simply smiled at. "I am so happy to meet you all! I am called Lexine, it's a pleasure to be a Titan with you." She said, smiling and folding her arms behind her back.

As Page sat and played and sang, he couldn't help but smile. This was it. This was THE tower. Heck, this was THE living room, THE couch. The Titans before him lived here and so would he. Taking calls, fighting crime, defending the meek and downtrodden. Page was so happy. As he sat, he heard someone behind him start to sing along, a boy's voice. As he finished the song, the other boy spoke up. "I love that song, it's one of my favorites. Nice to meet you I'm Kelsier, one of the new Titans and this is Timcampy." Page stood up and shook his hand. "I'm Payton, or Page, whichever is easier. I'm here to be a Titan as well!" Page said, a massive smile on his face. "And hello to you little Timcampy." Page said, smiling his body language expressing to the little creature that he meant it no harm. He reached out his finger to scratch the little one on, what appeared to be the top of it's head. It chirped happily and Page smiled. "It's very nice to meet you too." Page said. "So, I guess we wait for the others now, eh?" Page asked, but just as he finished speaking, one at a time, two girls stepped into the room, both silent and not talking, but that didn't stop Page. He loved meeting new people. He walked up to the first, a slightly taller girl with very dark, very straight hair. "Hello!" Page said, "I suppose introductions are in order. I'm Page, and I suppose you're here to be a Titan too? Oh good, this is so exciting." Page asked. After he finished speaking with her, Page nodded respectfully and moved over to the other girl, allowing Kelsier to introduce himself to her. As he got closer to her, Page noticed the other girl's hair was... purple? Awesome. "Nice color choice." Page said, smiling and pointing to his head. "I prefer red myself, but purple's not bad. I'm Page, and you are?" He asked.

Before he could finish his introductions with the purple haired girl, he heard a very excited, "Hello!" A small, red haired blur, which appeared to be a little girl, tackled him and almost knocked him over. The little one then ran around the room, hugging everyone but the purple haired girl Page had been talking to, but she did smile very brightly. "I am so happy to meet you all! I am called Lexine, it's a pleasure to be a Titan with you." She said. "Well, hello Lexine, my name is Page. It's very nice to meet you too." Page said, hugging the little one again, just for good measure. When she'd hugged him, Page hadn't really gotten a chance to hug her back, he was too surprised. This time, he made sure to give her a good squeeze. "There." He said. "Now we're even. Don't you know you've got to give someone a chance to hug you back, silly?" Page said, smiling.

Just as Page had finished introducing himself to Lexine, an alert sounded and a small blue light flashed in the living room. "Whoa..." Page said, turning around to face the place where the sound was coming from. There was a small blue light blinking at the monitor at the front of the room, underneath the massive TV screen. "I guess... someone's calling?" Page supplied. He walked over to the monitor and pressed the flashing blue button that said, "Intercom: Outside." As he did, the screen blinked on and a very familiar face flashed into existence. "Nightwing." Page breathed.

"Hello new Titans. Mind letting me in? After all, this is MY old tower." Nightwing said, a small smirk on his face. "Right away sir!" Page said, expertly clicking a few buttons and opening the front doors to allow Nightwing in. He stepped inside quickly, letting the doors slam shut behind him. "Hello Titans." Nightwing said, he turned and addressed each of them in turn and by name. "Payton, Shizuka, Kelsier, Monica, and Lexine. You have all been chosen for your abilities, your potential to do good, and your own personal quests for justice. You have all been hand picked, you are all special. My hope is that you will take me up on my offer, as explained in the letters I sent you. Jump City has become a den of thievery, deceit, and hatred. We have selected you to take residence in this tower, a gift from Cyborg and myself. We hope that you will take up our old mantle. What do you say Titans?" Nightwing finished, his question hanging in the air for a moment before Page shouted out, "Yes! Oh heck yeah! I am so jazzed to be here." Page said, a huge smile on his face.

Monica was quite shocked when the kid with the guitar walked up and introduced himself, most people don't want to talk to me.... "I suppose introductions are in order. I'm Page, and I suppose you're here to be a Titan too? Oh good, this is so exciting." He said to the both of them, but looking at the dark haired girl. Shortly there after he turned to Monica and said, "Nice color choice. I prefer red myself, but purple's not bad. I'm Page, and you are?" Monica smiled a touch, surprised at the compliment and it took a moment for her to recover her composure enough to speak, but by that point a very excited greeting was heard from behind her. A girl with flaming red hair came running in and hugged everyone, everyone of course except Monica, however Monica did not mind this, no one had ever hugged her and she did not expect anyone to have a desire to hug her anyway, people just didn't do that kind of thing with her. After the girl finished her hugs she introduced herself to the group, Lexine was her name. As soon as she introduced herself Page went right up to her and hugged her back introducing himself as well. As soon as he was done the alert flashed and again Page was the first to react answering the call. It was Nightwing, he asked to be let in, to which Page obliged. Nightwing entered "Hello Titans." Nightwing said, he turned and addressed each of them in turn and by name. "Payton, Shizuka, Kelsier, Monica, and Lexine. You have all been chosen for your abilities, your potential to do good, and your own personal quests for justice. You have all been hand picked, you are all special. My hope is that you will take me up on my offer, as explained in the letters I sent you. Jump City has become a den of thievery, deceit, and hatred. We have selected you to take residence in this tower, a gift from Cyborg and myself. We hope that you will take up our old mantle. What do you say Titans?" There was a moment of silence before anyone responded, Monica thought to herself during that moment potential to do good? Quest for justice? I don't have any of these, I just have a dangerous destructive power that I can't control. Maybe my letter was meant for someone else, but then why did it have my name on it? Before she could ponder anything further her thoughts were interrupted by an enthusiastic reply from Page, "Yes! Oh heck yeah! I am so jazzed to be here." he said. Monica couldn't help but smile again, this kid is acting completely normal around her, maybe just maybe the Titan's are the answer she has been looking for. She took a deep breath gathering all of her courage, "Yes we are here to help the city, we should all do our best to protect everyone." she said her voice starting out strong and fading to almost a whisper by her last words. I guess it will take some time before I'm comfortable here, but maybe, just maybe I'll finally make some friends. These are her thoughts as she takes a few steps backwards and listens to the responses of the other Titans.

Kelsier stood in shock as he was hugged by a bouncing girl with flaming red hair. Before he was able to respond to her the TV screen lit up. It was a call of some sort. "Page walked over and quickly answered the call. It was Knightwing."Hello new Titans. Mind letting me in? After all, this is MY old tower." Kelsier stood there slightly shocked. Sure He'd been recruited for the titans but up until now he'd never really believed it. Now that Knight wing was actually here the entire thing hit him. His breath caught slightly as he walked in through the doors. 'It's really happening... I can't believe it I'm actually going to become a Titan. I'm going to become a protector of the city. Me and these 4 other people. I can't wait to show them what I can do. I wonder if any of them know about my powers? I wonder how much Knightwing will tell them.' He stood at attention behind the others listening closely. "Hello Titans." Nightwing said, he turned and addressed each of them in turn and by name. "Payton, Shizuka, Kelsier, Monica, and Lexine. You have all been chosen for your abilities, your potential to do good, and your own personal quests for justice. You have all been hand picked, you are all special. My hope is that you will take me up on my offer, as explained in the letters I sent you. Jump City has become a den of thievery, deceit, and hatred. After a moment of pause there came the first response it was Page. "Yes! Oh heck yeah! I am so jazzed to be here." The next one to speak was surprisingly the girl who had so far been silent. It was Monica. "Yes we are here to help the city, we should all do our best to protect everyone." She grew really quiet towards the end but Kelsier had been listening close enough to hear all of it. He smiled as she finished. "I agree. We're here to help the city. Here to save all of the people, and I can't wait to work with everyone." Kelsier looked towards Monica and gave her an encouraging smile. Timcampy of course not wanting to be ignored tweeted loudly in agreement. Kelsier looked towards Knightwing and smiled slightly. "Timcampy agrees as well." He fell back slightly to allow the others to talk. He looked around at the others trying to guess their powers and thoughts. 'I wonder what everyone will do. How are we going to work together...'

Lexine was so excited to be apart of the Titans, she could not help hugging all of them. After she introduced herself, Page, the boy with the guitar had come up to her once again. He swooped her up and gave her a good squeeze of a hug, releasing her with a bright smile on his face. Lexine smiled back and cocked her head to the side when he said she should give people time to hug her back, and took note to remember that for later, because more hugs were definitely in order. She froze when a loud noise sounded in the room, and a blue light began flashing. Her eyes lit up and she bounced over to the button that was flashing as well.
So pretty.. She thought, about to touch it when Page came up beside her and pressed it.

A face suddenly appeared on the giant screen and Lexine put her hands up to the glass, inspecting the man closely. Page recognized him instantly and breathed his name. Nightwing. Lexine blinked and looked back to the screen. So this was one of the prior Titans, the leader. He had a smirk on his face and asked if they were going to let him into his old Tower. Lexine giggled, she liked his attitude.

Nightwing entered the room moments later, immediately jumping into a small speech.

"Payton, Shizuka, Kelsier, Monica, and Lexine. You have all been chosen for your abilities, your potential to do good, and your own personal quests for justice. You have all been hand picked, you are all special. My hope is that you will take me up on my offer, as explained in the letters I sent you. Jump City has become a den of thievery, deceit, and hatred. We have selected you to take residence in this tower, a gift from Cyborg and myself. We hope that you will take up our old mantle. What do you say Titans?"

Page was the first to respond, and he sounded more than enthusiastic. Lexine bounced forward and punched her fist into the air.
"Lexine is ready for action!" She responded, her eyes alight with excitement.

"I suppose introductions are in order. I'm Page, and I suppose you're here to be a Titan too? Oh good, this is so exciting." He said to the both of them, but looking at Shizuka mainly. Shortly there after he turned to the girl next to her and said, "Nice color choice. I prefer red myself, but purple's not bad. I'm Page, and you are?" Shizuka looked to the side, her eyes roaming the entirety of the room they were in. All she knew was that this tower was big and there were bound to be hiding places scattered all over. She was determined to find them.

Shizuka merely stood still as a strange, red-haired girl hugged her. She didn't plan on saying anything to anyone until she absolutely had too. Then, a blue light flickered and a foreign face appeared on a giant screen lingering on the wall. "Hello new Titans. Mind letting me in? After all, this is MY old tower." Nightwing said, a small smirk on his face. "Right away sir!" Page said, expertly clicking a few buttons and opening the front doors to allow Nightwing in. He stepped inside quickly, letting the doors slam shut behind him. "Hello Titans." Nightwing said, he turned and addressed each of them in turn and by name. "Payton, Shizuka, Kelsier, Monica, and Lexine. You have all been chosen for your abilities, your potential to do good, and your own personal quests for justice. You have all been hand picked, you are all special. My hope is that you will take me up on my offer, as explained in the letters I sent you. Jump City has become a den of thievery, deceit, and hatred. We have selected you to take residence in this tower, a gift from Cyborg and myself. We hope that you will take up our old mantle. What do you say Titans?" Nightwing finished, his question hanging in the air for a moment.

"Yes! Oh heck yeah! I am so jazzed to be here." Page said.

"Yes we are here to help the city, we should all do our best to protect everyone," said the purple haired girl.

"Lexine is ready for action!"

"I agree. We're here to help the city. Here to save all of the people, and I can't wait to work with everyone. Timcampy agrees as well." Shizuka hadn't noticed him at first, probably because she had been kept rather occupied.

Shizuka simply bowed, a low and respectful bow. Anyone on the Earth would know that meant yes just as much as actually saying the word. She remained in the position for a few seconds before returning upright.

Nightwing looked around the room with a smile on his face. They were a good group of kids; strong, brave, and resourceful. "Excellent." He said. "Now, to some official business. Kelsier, step forward please." At, Nightwing's direction, Kelsier stepped forward in front of the group. "After reviewing it amongst the five of us, the old Titans and I have decided that you will be the leader of this new group of Titans. We believe you're the most qualified to lead this team. Your strong sense of justice, your brave heart, and your naturally calm and strong aura are all the necessary attributes required for a leader. However, this doesn't mean that you're to rule this little tower with an iron fist, or that you're supposed to do everything on your own. I used to think like that and it nearly destroyed everything I held dear. No, being the leader is about protecting your teammates, about holding them together under harsh conditions, and about trusting them to watch your back. I hope all of you will respect this decision." As Nightwing finished, he looked around the room, waiting for individual confirmations from each Titans. Page nodded respectfully. 'I'm nowhere near qualified,' Page thought to himself. 'If Nightwing had chosen me, I would have denied the honor. I'm no leader.' Page looked on with pride as his new comrade stood a little taller, determination filling his eyes. 'It has to be him,' Page agreed silently.

"Well," Nightwing continued. "Now that that's all settled, it's time I left. You'll find everything here is already taken care of. The T-Car and our T-Ship have all been refitted with the newest technology and are available to use. The 'fridge is stocked, and Beast Boy even donated his game station, I'm told it's the newest version. Since everything's taken care of, I'll be getting out of here. I'm needed." As if on cue, a small communicator on Nightwing's hip flashed. It had the Justice League's logo on it. "That's my cue. Goodbye new Titans. Remember, just because you're meant to be the new sheriffs in town doesn't mean you're all alone. The Titan's old system is still up. You have a lot of friends in high places. Remember that." At that, Nightwing walked down the main hallway and out the door. When Page ran off to thank him, he'd vanished. "Huh..." Page said.

Coming back, Page noticed the other Titans were just sitting around, a few looked back up at him as he came in the door and he shrugged. "He's gone. Just vanished, I didn't even get a chance to say thanks." Page walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. Sure enough, the refrigerator was completely full and the facilities had all been freshly cleaned. "Cool." Page said to himself, a manic look on his face. "Calling all Titans!" Page shouted, a crazed grin on his face, "I am requesting your help with immediate team-building exercises!" As he spoke, Page walked around the kitchen, pulling pans, cooking supplies, and an apron out of various shelves. "I will now be hosting the First Annual New Teen Titans Waffle-Off! After such activities have been finished, we will be immediately beginning some sort of game/contest. The training course perhaps?" As he spoke, he caught the girl with purple hair, whose name he hadn't heard attempting to sneak away. "OI!" Page shouted, marching up to her, at first, he appeared angry, but as he got closer, a huge smile broke across his face. "You can unpack or whatever later, it's time to meet and greet, you silly." Page walked up to her and grabbed her by the wrist, leading her over to a stool. As he walked, he felt kind of bad. Maybe she really needed to get something, but what could be so important? New friendships were being made, whatever it was could wait. "While I'm starting up these bad boys, maybe we should go around and give our names and powers again? Oops... sorry Team Leader, I get kinda crazy OCD when it's Waffle time. It's one of my favorite things to do... other than play my guitar that is."

Nightwing declared Kelsier the new leader, which Monica was fine with, she didn't really care who the leader was, she hoped the other Titans didn't hate her. After his declaration, Nightwing left, presumably taking a call from the Justice League. Page ran off after him but was gone before he could reach him, upon his return he walked over to the kitchen, at this Monica attempted to leave and find her room, when she reached hallway she heard Page hollering from the kitchen "Calling all Titans! I will now be hosting the First Annual New Teen Titans Waffle-Off! After such activities have been finished, we will be immediately beginning some sort of game/contest. The training course perhaps?" his words only served to strengthen Monica's resolve to make her way back to her room. A contest on the training course ... just what I need somewhere to show them how terrifying I am, that'll make them love me for sure ... She thought as a frown appeared on her face. As she walked she heard Page's voice again this time much closer than before, "OI! You can unpack or whatever later, it's time to meet and greet, you silly." As he said this he walked up to her grabbed her wrist and pulled her over to a stool and all but pushing her into it. His actions seemed to say "You will sit here and have fun with me whether you like it or not!" Monica was surprisingly glad he was forcing her to spend time with them, but she was nervous and didn't want to get in the way. As of yet she hasn't had a chance to say anything, Page was acting to quickly. "While I'm starting up these bad boys, maybe we should go around and give our names and powers again?" With that he turned towards Kelsier and spoke with him, "Oops... sorry Team Leader, I get kinda crazy OCD when it's Waffle time. It's one of my favorite things to do... other than play my guitar that is." Finally being able to get a word Monica speaks up, "I'm Brenna, and I realize you want all of us to participate in, 'Waffle time' or whatever but I have some things to take care of, and I would really rather not go to the training course." The words 'training course' were filled with a mix of fear and disdain that the others would no doubt pick up on. "I hope you enjoy your waffles, I however am lacking an appetite at the moment maybe I'll come down later if I'm feeling hungry." As she said this she stood from her stool and began walking to the hallway again. She knew she had room two, and the letter she received from Nightwing said every Titan's room assignment carried meaning and was a gift from the previous occupant, but she did not know whose room it was, nor why she received it, and she was determined to find out.

While Kelsier put up a strong front for the good of the other Titans inside he was going into a panic. 'I'm the leader?!? I'm supposed to lead this entire team against all the evils in this city?' Kelsier was so preoccupied with his internal panic he didn't even notice as Nightwing dismissed them turning to leave down the hall. Timcampy started whistling in his ear trying to snap him out of his daze. Kelsier found a chair after a few moments sitting to better think about the situation.

'I can use my powers to protect everyone. They don't need to come to harm. I will defend them.' Kelsier continued stewing over all of this in his head until he was shocked into alertness. "Calling all Titans! I will now be hosting the First Annual New Teen Titans Waffle-Off! After such activities have been finished, we will be immediately beginning some sort of game/contest. The training course perhaps?" Timcampy whistled into his ear again making sure he was alert and ready to give an answer. "While I'm starting up these bad boys, maybe we should go around and give our names and powers again?" With that he turned towards Kelsier and spoke with him, "Oops... sorry Team Leader, I get kinda crazy OCD when it's Waffle time. It's one of my favorite things to do... other than play my guitar that is." Before Kelsier could reply the girl that Page had been talking to spoke up. "I'm Brenna, and I realize you want all of us to participate in, 'Waffle time' or whatever but I have some things to take care of, and I would really rather not go to the training course."

Kelsier decided it was time to speak up. "Page is right. We need to learn more about each other if we're going to function as a team. This waffle thing sounds like a good idea. Even the gaming contest. I can understand if any of you don't want to do the training course... Most of us aren't going to be used to using our abilities in front of other people, but I still ask that you can stay and watch those who do go through the course so you can better learn their abilities so we can more easily function as a team. Having gone through all of that. I'll begin the introductions. I am Kelsier Achlys. My ability is being able to absorb the qualities of any material I touch." To demonstrate this Kelsier pulls a chunk of metal out from inside of his coat and holds it in the palm of his hand. Pulling back the sleeve of his coat he bares his arm and begins drawing the steel into his body. After a second the chunk of steel had disappeared and covered the entirety of his arm in steel. "My skin now has the strength of steel. I am also a master of the Martial Art of Wushu as wells as the Twin Hooks and Chakram." With that he sat down looking towards the rest of the group hoping one of them would follow his lead.

While Page got started with his waffles, Kelsier decided it was time to speak up. As he spoke, Page mixed together some eggs, flour, baking soda, sugar, vanilla extract, some sour cream for fluffiness, milk, butter, and a small touch of cinnamon and nutmeg. It was his own recipe that he'd perfected in high school. "Page is right. We need to learn more about each other if we're going to function as a team. This waffle thing sounds like a good idea. Even the gaming contest. I can understand if any of you don't want to do the training course... Most of us aren't going to be used to using our abilities in front of other people, but I still ask that you can stay and watch those who do go through the course so you can better learn their abilities so we can more easily function as a team. After waiting for the others to respond, Page started up.

"I don't really have any powers. All I've got inside me is the Soul Drive. It's like... umm... kinda like Ki, I guess. It's an energy source for my guitar. That's where all my real power comes from. The guitar has five settings. The first is my acoustic which I can turn into any stringed instrument to play for fun. I've gotta be plugged into the wall for that though. Next is my electric guitar. When I play it, I can make people really strong, it even works on me. The second setting is a viola. If I play it, you'll feel better faster." Ryan said with a smile, pouring some of the batter into waffle irons and starting on the next batch. Due to popular consensus they had berries in them, next was chocolate. "My third setting is an electric bass. When I play that one, I can smack stuff in the face with pure awesome sound. It's funny. The last setting is my cello. The cello gives the benefits of all three 'powered' instruments simultaneously, but I can only do it to one person at a time. I figure if we want, later we can run the obstacle course, and I'll support you as you do it. That way you can get used to being buffed up by my music." Page finished matter-of-factly. "That's all I got, who wants more waffles?" Page asked, a huge smile on his face.

Shizuka sauntered into the kitchen, the smell of waffles floating through the air. She laid down her briefcase, listening to their leader speak, then sat herself down. "We've got fresh fruit, chocolate chips, bacon, and whipped cream. "Why not do these waffles up all fancy?" Page said, a manic grin on his face. Shizuka pointed silently at the bacon and simply hope that Page got the message. She wasn't to hungry, but bacon waffles sounded terribly delisious at the moment. She figured that the only way for them to know her powers were for her to show them. All the fancier things could be saved for the training course, but simple things like making a kitten come to life would be easier. So Shizuka pulled out her sketch book and quickly sketched out a kitten, which then literally popped off the paper and wondered around on the counter top. It was black and white, seeing as she didn't color it in, and leapt off the table, promptly walking around and rubbing on everyone, except the short purple haired girl. The small fur ball actually hissed at her and ran back over to Shizuka.

After that, Shizuka shrugged, really showing all she could for the time being. She guessed they would make their way to the training course after everyone ate. Shizuka also guessed that everyone knew her name, seeing as Nightwing had said everyones name, and the only one that hadn't been mentioned before was Shizuka. But for just in case purposes, Shizuka pointed at her name, which was on a small metal plate on the front of her suitcase.

After telling the other's her new, hero name, and telling them she was going to skipping out on waffle time, Monica received no response, which she took to mean she could leave. As she was standing to leave, the other's revealed their names, the first was the boy with a hooded jacket and snow white hair, "Page is right. She didn't see his demonstration as she had already turned away but she stayed long enough to listen to his words. Based on his words he seems to have so much more control than I do ... she caught herself thinking. The next to speak was the boy who had stopped her from leaving a minute ago, "Welp, I'll go next. Monica kept her eyes on Page as he talked, she even chuckled silently to herself, it was really more of a body shake accompanied by a slight smile, that no one would have noticed. She was intrigued by his abilities but a little frightened of how she might lose control, she had little to no control as it was, and increasing her strength could only make matters worse. No one spoke next but the one Nightwing referred to as Shizuka, was next to move. She pointed at the bacon, seemingly wanting some in her waffles, next she pulled out a small sketch book and drew something on it, moments later a cat jumped off the page, the cat went around purring and rubbing up against everyone, everyone that is except Monica, it hissed at her and backed away. "Great another being that hates me" she thought as her slight smiled disappeared. The girl then grabbed her briefcase and pointed at a small metal plate on it, Monica assumed it had her name on it. "Guess she isn't very social either" Monica thought.

After Shizuka's demonstration Monica found an opportunity to escape as the Page was busy with the waffles, and the other's were talking among themselves. She walked towards one of two staircases off of the living room. This one lead to rooms one, two and three. Her letter from Nightwing said her room was room two. She found it quickly as there were only three rooms in the hallway. She went to open the door but is started to glow bright white. She touched the door, and felt ... warm. Then the door stopped glowing and she opened it. As she entered she saw that the room was mostly empty, the carpet was white with a purple stripe leading to the bed, which was against the wall to the right of the door.. The walls were unpainted, save the wall behind the bed, which was a midnight blue, with a strange pattern on it. Monica felt at home, for the first time in her life. "I like this place" she found herself thinking. There was no wall directly in front of her, opposite the door, instead it was a large window, which at the moment had large curtains matching the wall behind the bed covering it. Monica walked over to the window and peaked behind the curtain, the window was really a sliding glass door that lead to a balcony. On the balcony was a small table, and two comfortable looking chairs. Above the balcony was an awning, presumably to keep the balcony weather free, should the owner decide to go out their during poor weather. As she returned to the center of the room she noticed a large book case and a desk against the the wall that was to the left of the door. The desk was mostly empty, it had an office chair in front of it that looked quite comfortable to lounge in as well as work. On the desk there was a computer, Monica knew next to nothing about computers but from what she knew of the Titans she was sure it was top of the line. Also occupying the desk was a small hand mirror and a letter. Monica walked over to the desk and reached to pick up the letter but before she could, she heard a light knock on the door, she walked over to it and opened it without saying a word, barely noticing who was standing in front of her.

Page knocked on Monica'sThe computer on Monica's desk started to beep, it sounded different than the alert from before, more like a phone ringing. She and Page walked over to it and Monica clicked it on, Nightwing's face appeared on the screen.

While this was happening the other's were all enjoying their waffles when the television began to beep in the same way Monica's computer did, (in fact all of the computer's were going off, but no one was in their rooms to hear them). Nightwing's face appears when Kelsier walks over and answers the alert.

On both screens Nightwing's face appears, and a recorded message plays, "Hello Titans, I'm sorry to bother you so soon after leaving you the tower, but Cyborg has just informed me that Titan's East is having some serious trouble in New York. Lexine's abilities are needed to help them with a few nasty villains. Two members of their team will be transferred to yours. One is a Ninja who has been working by himself just outside of Jump City for some time now, he actually wasn't due to report to Titans East until next week, but he has been informed to report early to your location. His name is Ken. Arriving with him is a genius mechanic by the name of Izzy, she met up with Ken on her journey here from Titans East headquarters. They should be arriving shortly please make them feel at home, they are a part of your team now. As for Lexine, a jet should be waiting just outside the front door. It will take her to Titans East. I'm so sorry to have introduced you to your team, only to break it apart, but sometimes sacrifices have to be made, as heroes there will be times when you need to make great sacrifices for people you don't know, but I know I can trust all of you to make those sacrifices." As the recording ends Lexine says her goodbyes to everyone on the main floor, already broken up to have to say goodbye to everyone. She walks up the stairs, with the intention of saying goodbye to Page.

Monica doesn't say anything after the recording finished. Secretly she wished Lexine could stay, the girl was nice and actually recognized Monica's existence, although she didn't know either of them, she didn't think a mechanic or ninja would want to be friends with her. Page was unable to sit there in silence "Well let's go down stairs to welcome our new friends. Plus we gotta say goodbye to Lexine, I really hope we can visit her soon." He said grabbing Monica's hand and dragging her out of her room and into the hallway where they ran into Lexine. In the hallway they exchanged their goodbyes, both Page and Lexine were visibly upset that she was leaving, but Page assured her that if this is what Nightwing and Cyborg thought was the best decision, it must be important. Monica didn't say much but she did wish Lexine well, and say that she hoped everything worked out.

Monica, Page and Lexine descended the stairs together, meeting up with the rest of the Titans where they all said goodbye to Lexine once more. They watched out the large glass window/wall in the living room as her jet left, heading off to the East. "Well I better make more waffles if we have more people coming!" Page exclaimed heading back into the kitchen and began preparing more waffles. The door alert sounded and when Kelsier answered it an image of two people appeared on the screen.

Once Monica, Page and Lexine arrived in the living room. "Well you all heard Nightwing. Lexine will be transferring to Titan's East." He looked around at all of his new friends. "And while I hate to see you go Nightwing is right. If you'll be better in Titan's East then that's where you should be. Don't forget us and if you ever need help don't be afraid to give us a shout. We'll come as quickly as we can." He offered her a smile as the rest of the Titan's said their goodbyes. Shortly after her jet flew off into the distance the door alarm buzzed and the communication screen Showed the face of two apparent teenagers. He walked over to the screen and pressed the communication button. "Please state your names and present your communicators." After a few moments the pair offered their names and showed their communicators. "Thank you." He pressed the button to allow the pair into the tower. After a few minutes they joined the group in the living room. "Let me be the first to welcome the two of you. I am Kelsier the leader of the Jump City Titans. My abilities are matter absorption. I can take any material and absorb it to my body giving me increased strength and durability comparable to the material absorbed. I'm also a master of the Wu Shu martial art. Your rooms will be taken care of shortly." Before the other Titans could jump in Timcampy squeaked. "Oh and this is Timcampy he's happy to meet you aswell." As the rest of the Titans introduced themselves Kelsier began cleaning up the waffle mess.

Once the introductions were finished Kelsier stood and addressed his team. "Alright everyone. We're going to go work on the Training Course. Ken and Izzy you are welcome to go through the training course with us. I understand if you don't want to go though but I do ask that you come to watch everyone who does go through so you can learn about your team's powers. Page I think you wanted to practice boosting those who went through it correct?"

Page was... devastated, to say the least. Not only was Lexine going off somewhere new, where he wouldn't be, waffle time was interrupted. This was a travesty of justice. Though he had quickly made a whole bunch of new, fresh waffles in preparation for the newcomers, it didn't feel right. Lexine was here, and then gone so fast. It was really sad. Despite his sadness, Page knew that if this is what Nightwing and Cyborg had in mind, it was easily the best decision and he shouldn't question it. Page must have hugged Lexine a dozen times before she left, but as he finally watched her fly off into the distance, he knew she'd be ok. It was all for the best. She was a strong little girl, and she would be ok without him watching after her.

"Welp, now that that's taken care of, I suppose we should move forward. After all, we're titans now." Page said confidently, so..." Page was interrupted by the doorbell as Lexine's two replacements presented their communicators and arrived at Titan's Tower. "Cool! Nice to meet you dudes, and welcome to Titan's Tower. I'm Page, or Chord, whatever's easier." He said, after Kelsier had introduced himself. "I'm not the one with the powers, it's my guitar." Page began. "My guitar can do lots of things, depending how I play. I've got five settings, each with a different purpose. I can heal, boost your strength, shoot sound bullets, play regular music, and the last one combines all three 'powers' into a big one that will super boost ya. Only problem is, it's crazy hard, I can only do it for so long. Hopefully, I can get stronger and it'll last longer." Page finished explaining with a smile, offering his hand to shake for both of the newcomers, though the girl Izzy appeared to not wish to shake his hand.

Finally, after everyone introduced themselves, and Kelsier explained what was going on, Page spoke up. "Yeah! I'd love to run everyone through the simulators while giving them a boost. It might get kinda hard on me so bear with me, as I can only play so much, but whoever wants to can go right ahead, and we can all get started. I'd hate to have us respond to an emergency and not have any of you be used to my powers. Further, if anyone gets hurt, I can switch settings and patch ya right up. Should be lots of fun." Page explained, again, his wide and bright smile showing for all to see. Though he'd be missing Lexine, he had lots of other friends to hang out with now, and Lexine would too. She wouldn't be lonely. "I've got lots of waffles to eat, so if you guys are hungry after we do the course, there's plenty to eat." Page said, as he began walking over to the door that led outside to the training course. "Come on guys! Let's go!" Page exclaimed.
