Introduction

Welcome to the Thaumaturgy Guild, fellow thaumaturgist. I will be giving you a breif overview of the magics that Asvara has to offer.

First we have thaumarturgy. This is not the only magic studied at the guild, but it is the main one. Thaumarturgy is the practice of making miracles with vis (veece) and things called aspects. These aspects are forms of magical energy that every item in our world has. But, you must be careful with thaumaturgy as this type of magic, though the strongest, has a chance to back fire when over used. The use of thaumaturgy creates flux, or disturbances in the natural flows of vis. This leads to everything from freak storms to plagues. Users are known as Thaumaturgists.

Next up, we have alchemy. Alchemy is the art of turning existing objects into other objects by breaking them down and combining them in certain ways. The most common forms of alchemy are metallurgy and potion making. Here at the Guild, we focus on the magical forms of alchemy, which is breaking things down into raw matter, and then reforming it into what we want. The only downside to this is that all of its process take time. Users are known as Alchemists.

Finally, we have symbol magic. Symbol magic is the use of runes to create spells that do not require a user to actively monitor. The 2 common types are enchanting and rune traps. Enchanting is writing certain runes onto an object, using magic inks that you will have to make or buy, to create an effect. There are 2 types of enchanting: enhancement and powered. Enhancement enchanting uses runes that will take vis or raw matter and use them to permanently enhance a specific property of an item, such as hardness or weight. Powered enchanting is enchantments that cause a specific action when a specific requirement is met, such as a blade lighting on fire when it hits someone. The downside of powered enchanting is that it will use vis or raw matter every time it is used. Rune traps are basically powered enchantments that are placed in certain places. Rune traps can be recurring or single use. Users are known as Enchanters.

Now in the Guild we have 4 different areas, which are:

The Courtyard - This is the courtyard created by all the buildings of the guild. In it there is a variety of shops, a small park, and a sitting area.

The Archives of Time - This is the largest library in all of Asvara. It boasts countless books and scrolls with knowledge on almost any subject possible. Any experiments must have a copy of all notes and records sent to the Archives to help other students and thaumaturists.

The Quarters - Located to the left of the Archives, the Quarters are where everyone in the Guild lives while studying on campus. There are three sections: Temporary housing for visits less than a month, student housing, and staff housing. All rooms in the Quarters are large enough to handle small experiments and come with set of your standard tools for your studies.

The Labs - This is where you will have classes and do large experiments. The Labs has large rooms stockpiled with equipment to handle teams working on experiments to work effectively. We would like you to take good care of all the equipment as it does not come as you will be paying for any and all damages that your team have done.

Now we should go over what the hierarchy of the Guild is like. The positions are:

Alpha-Mage - This is the highest position of the Guild. All rules that affect everyone are approved or disapproved by this person. This position is held by one person. Currently held by Arcaus (npc).

Assistant-Alpha - These are the people who manage the day to day tasks and report directly to the Alpha-Mage. There is one for each area of the Guild.

Mage - This is the title of all the staff below the Assistant-Alpha who use or assist in the use of magic. These are your teachers, librarians, and guards.

Worker - Any staff member who does not use magic.

Also, before I let you go, there is one thing that I must tell you. Anyone who practices multiple types of magic and mixes them together to make machines to serve any purpose are known as inverters.

Adion turned down to look at Ciel. He then said "This section of the Guild is the private labs. It's a bit far in the back, but those who are not here for class will usually be seen back here. It's just something that you will get used to if you use this place a lot."

Then Ciel stopped suddenly, calling out to see who was in the lab. A man who obviously experimented on himself popped out and had an overwelming odder of tobacco and alchol. He simply said to him "This girl was doing a sensative experiment when you let out that massive flux wave. It caused a large backfire and reversed her age. We were wondering exactly what would be the cause of such a massive wave of flux."

Jon smiled even more "No I wouldn't the only work I have been doing is working on enchantments on armor for a noble that's all I really do..." then it hit Jon like a sack rocks YES!! That's it my next work is to disrupt flux flows and pulses this would be used to counter act the disasters caused from miracles or to stop a miracle from happening. It would have to be a trap rune and a body enchantment as well. Jon laughed a bit his laughter echoed the dark halls then remembering his visitors "I have work to do now so if you don't mind I will take my leave. With a bow Jon walked back into his lab and started to pace thinking of what needs to be done and such.

Ciel stared in disbelief as the weirdo began to slink back into the darkness. Working on armor- as if! The man looked demonic for Pete's sake, it had to be him! This dude was just way too suspicious.

The little girl tightened her grip on Adion's sleeve. Was she just going to let him walk away like that? If he was really the one responsible for the flux pulse, then she might never regain her true form. Admittedly, this one was cute and flexible and all, but did she really want to relive her childhood? Images of her youth flashed through Ciel's brain and the youth paled visibly. No!

Ciel gritted her teeth. The man was scary, but she could be scarier! The little girl threw down her bundle of clothing, stomped up to the freaky guy's retreating form, noticed he didn't have any sleeves to cling to, and opted instead for latching onto the back of his shirt and pulling with all of her strength. "I know you're lying, you bastard! We know it was you, so fess up already!"

Adion looked at Jon as Ciel practically attacked him. "Ciel, calm down. If he is lying, the Alpha-Mage will tell us the truth. And Mister, all I need is to look at the specific genre of the the flux wave. I should be able to piece together the cure for Ciel here with that information." Adion spoke.

It was true. All one needs to know to fix a backfire is what type of flux wave caused it, the nature of the experiment, and the strength of both. Of course, Adion knew the strength of the flux wave, the nature of the experiment, and the strength of the experiment. Of course, an experiment that uncontrolled must have been on an experimental concept or a leap from the standard.

Jon felt his shirt being grabbed and the little girls strength ripped his shirt off reveling his discolored and horrid runes that were burned or cut into his skin looking at his torn shirt he swore "Goddamn cheap thing!" he glared at the girl wondering what the Arch-Mage would do if he used this young lady as a second reanimation experiment. He looked to the young man "Control your child or I will put this rune on her!" he pointed to a horrible scar on his neck that seemed to be nothing but cuts to scribble out a mistake. He let his hand down. Then saying to the girl "This young lady is what gave me my eyes along with some other things that drive the normal mind to insanity. You might be a perfect experiment to try it on." he pulled out a black and blue knife and a small metal rod with a heating rune. He chuckled "Now come here and I will give you a new mind as well as some other things." he at first was doing it as a joke but nearing the end he really wanted to carve into the young ling and find out if her mind would go to mush during the process.

"Eep!" Surprisingly, the man's shirt gave way to her pulling, ripping at the seams. Ciel flushed, and was about to stutter a flustered apology when she saw the scars. Her blue eyes widened, her mouth going dry. Self mutation. The little girl was unable to look away; it was like Satan had grabbed a random person and scrawled unholy scripture upon their mortal flesh. However, upon being called a child, Ciel snapped back to reality, her eyes following the vicious scarring on the man's neck.

When he pulled out a knife, she lost it. Ciel snarled, assuming a defensive stance. "Don't you dare!" she hissed. "I am a thaumaturge, not some kid you can toy with as you please. Don't take me lightly, I don't have a normal mind." Her eyes locked onto the tools. "Put those away, you fool! I swear I'll bite you if those come anywhere near me!"

Jon laughed "You being a Thaumaturge means nothing to me since I am one my self and I dare you to bite me." he took his knife and drew a fire trap on his skin. He approached the girl closely blood running down his arm he had his knife close to Ciel when everything went black instantly. There was a loud smacking sound from behind him and when Jon hit the floor Devan was reveled holding a metal bar putting it down he tended to Jon with a bandage covering up the fresh wound Jon created himself after tending to Jon he carried Jon to his bed and laid him there then came back to the two and bowed "Sorry for my master he gets carried away at times. He is very kind just in his own way. Can I help any of you two?" he had the same eyes as Jon but instead of red his were green.

Adion seemed gravitated toward a rune that most would miss because of the clothing that this man was wearing. The rune seemed to be bringing in vis, while lightly causing some flux. Adion had become so attuned to this that he could see the rune right through all of the man's clothing. "You were reanimated weren't you? That would explain the flux burst. You are still healing though, or are you simply living off of the vis?" Asked Adion. He had never seen such a perfect reanimation. The man seemed to think on his own, but showed no signs of mind control. This left Adion with only one more question barrage. "How old are you? What town were you born in? What are the names of your parents? What were your last three jobs?"

Adion looked at the man and seeing that he didn't have Jon to counter act this claim logically he answered "Last I remember I was in my late twenties twenty-nine to be exact, I was born in Helmont, Beth and Alex were my parents, and I was a blacksmith apprentice, then I left and became a lumberjack, and my last job was a mercenary." Adion almost wished he hadn't knocked Jon out earlier but he had to fend for himself "I am not a reanimated person Jon is conducting an experiment on me to see the effects of a person living on the Vis as you call it."

"Do not believe me to be a fool. Although I am impressed by the quality of the reanimation that you went through. Perfectly intact memory, full functioning intelligence, and freedom to think for one's self. The vis must be retrieving the remaining parts of your soul. As for your little lie, it's obvious that Jon, as you call him, would have tested that on himself." spoke Adion. It took him another moments thought to ask "May I inspect your runes further. I have to find out how to bring Ciel back to her real age."

Devan shook his head "No the only person I will allow near my runes is that man over there" he pointed to Jon. Devan looked to Adion "It nothing personal but the person who brought me back from death is the only person I trust to come close to the runes. Even though he is crazy." A voice behind him said "I resent that." Jon came from the bed rubbing his head "You didn't have to hit that hard Devan." Jon looked to Ciel then to Adion "The runes have nothing to do with the gir...I mean young lady but the flux I recreated. I believe that the Vis flowing through Devan is the cause for the young lady's inability to return to her original age. I can fix that by negating the effect the Flux pulse that turned her into a child again." Jon pulled a cigarette out and lit it breathing in the smoke. Jon looked Adion "This is a new field of research that I just started to think of since reanimation is no longer impossible I want to do something new such as discovering how to negate the vis and flux thus being allowed to stop a miracle and the effects of casting a miracle." Jon sighed "I do need some time though and don't mess with Devans rune. Even if by some wild chance that rune has anything to do with her problem disrupting that rune will kill Devan again. So there are three choices kill Devan to bring this girl back to her normal self, let Devans rune continue until Devan is fully brought back to life soul and all and hope in the end Ciel changes back, or let me work for a few days to a week to let me find a way to turn her back...I guess without hurting her." Jon knew the first option wasn't going to happen since Devan looked like he wanted to live and Jon would rather die than let his greatest work parish to commadate someone else's wishes.

"Jon, I wasn't going to mess with the rune, just check it more closely. If I wanted to fuck with people's runes, then I would have brought my ink. And what your telling me is that Ciel is being set back to a child because Devon's runes are feeding slightly on her life force in a manner that reverses her age. Hmm, I wonder if you might find out how to do just the reversing age. That would pay for quite a few experiments if the nobles heard that they could pay to be made a child again.

Jon thought about it then said "Yes in a away Devan is feeding on her life force but the initial flux pulse combined with what ever materials she was using is what initially reversed her age. It's the Vis rune that is preventing her from changing back into her original form. What exactly were you doing miss?" Jon looked at Ciel with a thoughtful look he was interested now with her in general never in his life has he saw a side effect such a reversing of age.

Re: Thaumaturgy

Ulfunn, I don't really want to reply to unseen's post because their wouldn't be much for me to do in response. Could you skip my "turn" and just go for it?

Re: Thaumaturgy

Well, Ciel says, "Bring it on, old man."

In the most respectful way, of course.

Re: Thaumaturgy

Sounds good to me. Fair warning everyone in the academy avoids Jon for good reason he will find any excuse to experiment on people so Ciel should be careful about what she says.>:)

Re: Thaumaturgy

In a few more posts, I'm predicting Ciel is going to flip-out and storm the Guild for the one responsible!

Re: Thaumaturgy

You wouldn't be lying he did create a massive flux pulse from reanimating Devan everyone is free to interact with Jon he wouldn't mind visitors and your character (Angelwolf) could be Jons new experiment >:D MUAHHAHAHAH

Re: Thaumaturgy

So far it seems like I'm totally setting this up so Jon's the one to blame... pfft....
