Shila had never been afraid of the reaping. After all, her name only went in as many times as it was supposed to since she didn't need to do the tessera. Shila stood with her age group, 16 and 17 year-old's, and watched as their mayor, her own father, stood up to give a speech.

"Ladies and gentlemen of District 8, welcome to the 55th annual Hunger Games! As you know, each year I give a speech, but not this year. This year, I'm inviting my guest, you're future escort, to give his speech! May I introduce Horace Unger!" Her father applauded and so did the crowd.

Mr. Unger, a large, fat man with pale orange skin and bright red hair, stood up to the microphone and cleared his throat. "Thank you, Mr. Lou, and thank you, District 8, for making me feel so welcome! As you know, the 55th annual Hunger Games is not only one of your first times in the Hunger Games, but also my first year as an escort! So, may the odds be ever in your favor!" Mr. Unger pressed a button, and the normal video that played every year started playing, and people watched in silence.

Shila had no interest in the video, and began looking around at the others. In her silky brown dress and curled hair, she stood out from the group, because she was dressed better than most. As the mayors daughter, she had more privileged than most others. The video ended, and the people applauded. Shila watched in anticipation as Mr. Unger walked toward the two large globes, one for boys and one for girls.

"Now, as is tradition, ladies first!" Horace Unger reached his hand into the large, pink tinted globe, and fished around for a few moments. As he pulled out one of the pink tinted papers, he unfolded it and went back to the microphone. "And you're female tribute for the 55th annual Hunger Games is," He pauses for dramatic effect, "Shila Lou!"

Shila nearly fell over, and was pushed to the isle by the other girls. Her father was pale, and her older brother watched on with horror from the crowd, holding their sobbing mother. As she walked up the steps, she took a deep breath and tried to look calm.

"Would you like to say anything to your future opponent and/or partner?" Mr. Unger asks, holding the microphone to her.

Shila looked out over the crowd of boys, eyeing a lot of them individually. "Bring it on,"

Anastasia took her place in the ever growing crowd. She hated Crowds and this one was obviously no exception.

"Welcome. Welcome all!" a tall, thin lanky woman with Midnight black skin and massive blue frizzy hair exclaimed.

"Today is the reaping for the 55th Annual Hunger games! As you know, I Will show you the Magical video that informs you of Panem's wonderful history! "

The woman, District 4's escort Meridia Silvertounge played the long, Drawling video. Ana tried to pay attention but ended up blowing her long brunette hair out o her face. It was very windy today.

" Wasn't that amazing? " Meridia said, but Ana guessed she was asking a Rhetorical Question. " Any way. Ladies first!"

Anastasia's Breaths got sharper, and her heart beat faster

Boom, Boom , Boom , Boom

" District 4's Female Tribute is- " Meridia said excitedly " Anastasia Bennet! "

How? What? Questions were flying through my head. Out of thousands. Me.

I slowly walked up onto the Daunting stage.

" Age, Dear? " She asked

" 17 " I answered, But only just.

And She stood there, Waiting.

Scorpio watched the girl tribute Walk slowly on to the stage.

She's Cute. He thought and Smiled. But then he focused his attention on the Massive glass ball. His name was in there 10 times.

" Now! The boys. "

Scorp had to admit, he was a little scared. The escorts dainty hand Twirled around the glass ball and Picked up a paper. She paused, Trying to read it right and exclaimed-

" Scorpio Mackenzie! "

Oh my God...

He walked up on the stage and saw some girls smile. He was not sure if it was him or the fact they weren't picked. But Scorp would like to think it was him.

" Oh a Fine young man. "

" Thank you." He replied.

" OK , Shake hands with your 'Partner'! "

Scorp shook hands with the girl. She eyed him.

He noticed she had a Firm Grip.

Catly sighed deeply and opened her eyes. She hated this day, she just hated this day, no matter what, she just hated it. You couldn't love it. Today, 24 families would have to say goodbye to their beloved child and watch them go to eventually die until one victor remained. It was cruel, and she didn't like it, she hated it. She had no idea how many times her name was in the bowl, she didn't count, didn't care either really. Somewhere, deep inside her, she already knew she would have three days to watch, listen and practice before she would die in the 55th Annual Hunger Games. She knew she wouldn't stand a chance, of course not. Why would she if there were people who trained for this their entire life and volunteer?

Catly looked up at the lady standing on the podium, smiling like it was a special day. Well, actually it was a special day, but for 23 of the people from the twelve districts, this day would be their certain death sentence, and for one it would be a victory, only one of the 24 would return. She watched the film and sighed. She rolled her eyes, like they had to see that every single year. No one really cared.

The woman walked to the bowl for the girls. ''Ladies first,'' she said. Catly stayed silent, watching her fish out a stroke. On the stroke, would be a name, a name from district nine. The woman walked back and opened the stroke of paper, before clearly saying the name. ''Catly Cortam!''

Catly froze and grew pale. Her eyes widened. She had hoped to avoid it, to avoid to be a part of their sick game, but now she was a part of it. Slowly, she walked forward. The guards guided her to the stage. She walked with the woman to the middle.

''Something to say?'' the woman asked. Catly looked at the woman before looking over the crowd. She simply shook her head, still trying to come over the shock. She looked over the male crowd, waiting for her partner/enemy to come.

Kayla walked in the large crowd with her little sister and an old lady that offered to watch her for Kayla. Her sister is only 7 so her name wont be in the drawing for the games. "Miss, if my name gets drawn for the games can you please watch Asia for me?" Kayla asked as she got ready to leave their sides and go stand with her age group. "Yes, child, of course! Let's go now, hun. Your sister has to go with the others now." The old lady said with a smile. Then, Kayla went to go stand with her age group.

A very... weird looking lady stepped up to the mic. "Welcome one an all of District 11 to the reaping for the 55th annual Hunger Games!" She said with excitement and gave a few claps. The crowd was silent. The lady's smile faded a bit and she swallowed. "Tough crowd...Anyways! Ladies first!" The lady added after a moment. Kayla swore the lady looked right at her. She reached in the big bowl. Instead of reaching in deep, she took one right off the top. The lady walked back to the mic and looked at the card with the name, looked at the crowd, then looked back at the name, then back at the crowd. She was teasing them as much as she can. "Read the name already!" Someone in the crowd said. It was surely an 18 year old.

The crowd laughed until the lady at the mic started to laugh, then the crowd went dead silent. "Okay then. The female tribute for District 11 for the 55th annual Hunger games is..." The lady paused, looked up, and made eye contact with everyone in the crowd it seemed like. Then, she went back to reading the name. "Kayla Eemmez!" Everything around seemed to freeze. All Kayla could hear was her sister, starting to cry. "Kayla? Please, come up to the mic." The lady said, snapping Kayla out of it.

The crowd was silent as Kayla started to walk up to the stage. Everyone looked shocked and sad. "Thank you for coming up to the stage Kayla." The lady said as she put her hand out to shake hands with Kayla. Kayla just looked at the lady's hand and crossed her arms. The lady withdrew her arm awkwardly then asked "Anything you want to say?"

Kayla looked at the crowd. She nodded and walked to the mic. "I don't care what you say. There's no way I'm playing your sick, messed up, little game!" She said with a lot of attitude and anger. Now, I just got to keep that promise. She thought.

Lillac stood in her age group, motionless. She had zoned out, the orange haired woman's words becoming nothing more than an annoying murmur in her ears. Her big hazel eyes wandered around her surroundings, but mainly focused on the sky. She was watching a group of birds move sticks from one tree to another. She wasn't worried about the reaping. Sure, she had her share of tesserae, but she knew of other girls that had twice as many as she.

She zoned back in to Erma Thoris' speech, listening to how The Capitol was generous for allowing them a chance at redemption. She was only half listening until the woman's hand reached into the ball full of girl's names. The tall, blue skinned woman made her way back to the microphone.

"Lillac Mullner," rang out across district 10.

For a moment, the seventeen year old didn't believe her ears, but when the girls standing around her began pushing her toward the stage, realization washed over her. She walked to the stage on shaky legs, and clumsily made her way up the stairs. She stood, watching everyone in her district give her pitied looks, upon the large platform.

"How old are you, dear?" the woman asked, pushing the microphone into Lillac's face.

"Seve-seventeen," she replied, her lips trembling ever so slightly.

"A round of applause for 17 year old Lillac everyone!" Erma called out, clapping herself. Lillac stood there, terrified, as she waited to see who her counter part would be.

Lavinia is always awake first, the day of the reaping being no exception. She bounded out of her rough canvas bed, and quickly pulled on her orange reaping dress. I know, orange is a rather happy color for reaping day, but Lavinia will do anything to stand out. "Mother, time for the reapings!" Lavinia sang, prancing out the door, and meeting up with her group of friends.

Soon the reapings began, and she began to zone out until a silly Capitol voice trilled "Lady's first!" 'Shit,' she though. 'I missed a lot' "Lavinia Hills" The voice called out. Lavinia stopped dead in her tracks. Her brain stopped working, but when it did begin to work, she bounded up onto that stage, waving and smiling. She was going to make the Capitol love her.

Who would clap for this? Most people didn’t but there were a few that did and he just could not understand it. Kamil stood there in the crowd, every reaping he had to watch this horror show. He had to see a guy and girl stand up there on the executioners block and he couldn't help but hate it with a passion. His eyes moved from the orange haired lady to Lillac, the girl just looked so terrified. Kamil knew he would be safe; there was no reason why he shouldn't be. He would just have to watch this horror show with everyone else, they were all trapped in a way. All forced to witness the death of two of their own.

The lady was smiling up a storm, as though this was the happiest day of her life. Kamil could not help but hate her; did she even realize what she was doing? This was a death sentence for sure. She reached her hand slowly into the bowl fool of names and pulled out a single card. It was clear that everyone was holding their breaths; they all knew what it meant to be on that card. The lady smiled out to the crowd and said in a loud booming voice. “Kamil Khan!”

In that moment, the moment his name was said the world seemed to freeze for Kamil. Everything seemed to slow down and stop as he felt the blood in his veins turn to ice. A thousand curses rang in his mind, this was impossible. It seemed forever that the world was frozen and his mind cursed to himself and then the next thing he knew an almost solid wave of sound crashed down upon him. It was a single scream, a loud no from the back. Kamil closed his eyes and pushed himself forward, letting his powerful stride carry him through the crowd quickly. He knew who was yelling. His father would be flipping out; this was what he had always feared. The guards would be stopping him right now, and he had to get up to the stage or they would come for him next. He just couldn’t believe it. He was part of the horror show now. He could just barely hear the lady ask him a question, he didn’t even know what it was and yet he somehow answered. He saw the huge smile on her face and he just wanted to punch her. She yelled out into the crowd. “Let’s give a round of applause to your 17 your old tribute Kamil Khan, what a strapping lad he is”

Damon stood among the crowd, listening to the film that was playing, but not really paying attention. He didn't like these neat cloths, it made him feel uncomfortable. He didn't know anyway why he would dress up this neat for a stupid, sick little game. This was just horrible. How could they ever make such a game, only for their entertainment of course, but still, it made him feel sick to think about it. It was horrible, and he hated it. He just hoped his sister wouldn't get picked for the Games, he really hoped that wouldn't happen, but he had no idea he would be chosen too.

He raised his head as the woman started to speak. This caught his fullest attention. ''As tradition, ladies first,'' the woman declared and walked to the bowl with the name of the girls. She fished around in the bowl, seeming to look for a special kind of stroke of paper, instead of just taking one out and giving the name. The fished one stroke of paper out and walked back to the microphone. He felt nervous and sick.

''And, the female tribute for District 9 is,'' the woman paused for a few seconds, looking over the girls, locking eyes with them all it seemed. As every year, but still, it made him feel a bit sick. He knew Catly would be silently waiting until she could go, and so was he. ''Catly Cortam!'' the woman continued and locked eyes with Catly. Damon's eyes widened with fear and horror as he looked over at Catly. Tears seemed in his eyes.

His sister made her way up onto the stage and when the woman asked if she wanted to say anything, she just simply shook her head. He locked eyes with her, showing his fear for her. Then, he looked back at the woman. ''And now, for the boys,'' the woman said. Damon looked down, trying to hide his tears and fear for his sister. Now he knew, he was all alone, he would never see her again, never.

The woman fished through the bowl, the picked out a stroke and walked back to the microphone. Damon looked up at the woman full of hatred. ''And, the male tribute for district nine is,'' she paused again and looked over at the boys and him, locking eyes with every single boy it seemed. He looked down, wanting to avoid her gaze. ''Damon Cortam!'' Damon froze, and grew pale. This must have been a mistake, but as it sank in, he realized, he would be against his sister in The Hunger Games. He looked up and made his way towards the stage. ''Something to say?'' the woman asked him. Damon looked at his sister and simply shook his head. The woman nodded. ''Shake hands,'' she said and Catly and Damon did so. ''A big applause for the two tributes!'' the woman said and Catly and Damon looked over at the crowd who was clapping their hands, but most out of fear.

McKenna walked with her family, wearing her sister Reina's first reaping dress, till they had to split apart, her brothers went on one side and her older sister Ryka and her on another. They signed in and after that Ryka gave her one last hug "Remeber you have nothing to worry about Kenna, our brothers and I have more chance to get chosen then you. Be strong for Reina" Ryka then pointed down to the bracelet on her wrist that Reina gave to her when she got chosen as a tribute. She watched as Ryka went walked off to be with the other girls her age. She felt alone even around all the girls her age. She watched as a lady with green blue hair whose name was Dixie Rollo started her speech.

"Hello and Welcome all to the 55th Hunger Games! This will be a great year I can feel it! Now lets what the amazing movie first"

McKenna looked up to the screen and watched the movie that they played every year she was now fidgeting with her hair nervously and looked to see if she could see any of her siblings then heard Dixie start clapping.

"Now that is just wonderful movie isn't it? Now lets begin shall we?! Ladies First!" McKenna watched as Dixie put her hand in the big bowl and fished around. McKenna looked to the ground when she heard it...

"Your District Tribute this year will be.......McKenna Rennings!"

McKenna heard her name her heart stopped, she could hear her mothers scream. She could feel the other girls pushing her to the stairs. Dixie reached her hand down to help her up. She stood there and looked out to the crowd.

"Oh we have what looks like a young one this year, and also the younger sister of a pass tribute Reina Rennings...now deary tell me your age"

"I am 12" she whispered.

"Well lets heard it everyone for McKenna Rennings! Our 12 year old District Female!"

Illyria smirked as she stood on the stage, she was proud to have volunteered and she was ready to win The Hunger Games. Her father and mother watched her, a proud gleam in their eyes. Pride filled their hearts as they watched in awe of their daughter's courage. Everyone in district 3 was cheering her on and smiling for her. She brushed a strand of hair from her face, and waited for her partner to be called. Her ankle length, sparkling blue reaping dress showed in the sun like sapphires and her green eyes held a cocky look.
"Any comments dear?" the Capitol representative asked.
"Are you ready to win district 3?" she asked maliciously, smirking as the crowd roared. She smiled triumphantly, and backed up to her designated spot on stage.

Johny watched as the lady called the female tribute, Kayla, up to stage. He only talked to the girl once before, when the girls mother died. He knew that she was the only one taking care of her little sister and he felt bad for her. He was too busy thinking about what he's going to do if he get's called for the male tribute to pay any attention to the video that they show every year. He heard Kayla get called for the female tribute, and now it's time for the boy's.

The lady walked up to the opposite bowl full of names. She reached in the bowl and grabbed the first little slip of paper with a name on it right off the top. She walked back up to the mic and said "The male tribute for District 11 is...". She would have done what she did when she was announcing the female tribute, but she only paused, looked at the crowd, then looked back at the name. "Johny Arc!" The lady said with a lot of excitement.

Instead of freezing in place like most tributes would do, Johny stated walking to the stage as soon as she said Johny as the first name. The lady smiled at Johny as he walked up the steps of the stage and stood to her right as Kayla stood to her left. "Thank you for coming up Johny!" The lady said into the mic. "Anything you want to say to the crowd?" She added.

Johny looked at the lady, then looked at Kayla, then looked to the crowd. He walked up to the mic. He stood there a moment then made eye contact with everyone in the crowd. He then shot his fist up into the air and held it at a slight angle forward. Less than half a minute later, everyone in the crowd did the same. No one was smiling, no one was cheering, no one was even crying. Everyone had a brave face and a stiff upper lip. It was silent, a strong silence that gave everyone courage.

"District 11, I give you your tributes! Tributes, please shake hands!" The lady said with excitement yet slightly uneasy. Johny and Kayla shook hands. That's it, they only shook hands and gave a nod to each other.

Character Portrait: Jacquelyn "Jackie" Row

Jackie swayed back and forth among the crowd, her gold-trimmed white dress shimmering in the sunlight. Golden eye-shadow and thick, long eyelashes escorted her outfit, matching her bronze skin in a beautiful, blending dynamic. Her skin was peppered with glitter, sparkling as she slid through the mass of people.

"Good morning, my dears!" a voice squealed, revealing a bony woman with fiery hair and pale skin. "District 1, I am very pleased to welcome you to the 55th Annual Hunger Games Reaping!"

Applause boomed. Almost every face in District 1 twisted into frenzied cheer, jumping and shouting as they rooted the woman on. "Alright, dears, settle down!" the red-haired hostess grinned, hushing the crowd with the bowing of her hands. "I know you all must be anxious to know who your little tributes are this year," she smiled widely, "but before we go any further, a little history is in place!" With a jolly, stupid look on her face, the woman snapped her fingers. A video switched on, shining against the wall behind her as it explained the games. Jackie's body tensed as previous matches were shown, exposing gory deaths, tears, and winners.

As the video came to an abrupt stop, the silly voice met the microphone again. "Entertainment at its finest!" she exclaimed, taking a bow. "I'm sure this year will bring even more fun! Now," the woman continued, eyeing the crowd, "for what you have all been waiting for: your tributes!"

Following more applause, two buckets were brought forth. The woman reached her hand in, shuffling the pieces of paper around before pulling one out. Jackie paid very little attention, finding more interest in a butterfly that flew between her face and the face of another's. It was spotted with orange and white and framed in black, making for a beautiful appearance. Her attention drifted back to the woman as her hand slowly reeled up, unfolding the tiny slip of paper.

Jackie presumed it was not her. She'd never needed any tesserae, and her name was only in the jar 6 times. Out of those hundreds of papers, Jackie was positive one of her six would not be chosen.

"Ladies and gentlemen, your female tribute for this year's Hunger Games is," she paused, scanning the paper that sat in her fingers, "Jacquelyn Rows!"

Loud. Everything was loud. District 1 roared with the sound of Jackie's name, pushing her forward as they cheered and jumped in every which way. People were screaming, smiling, laughing, some even crying.

Jackie stood frozen.

"Jacquelyn Rows!" the woman repeated, shielding her eyes from the sun as she searched the crowd. Hearing her name for the second time shook Jackie out of her stupor. She began to smile, waving enthusiastically to the crowd as she skipped to the podium and shined in her beautiful dress. The woman grinned, holding the mic to her lips once again.

"And what a beautiful tribute at that! How old are you, dear?"
"17 and ready," Jackie replied, shooting a smile to the crowd.
"Oh, a confident one! Let's hear it for Miss Jacquelyn Rows!"

The crowd cheered Jackie on, but she felt like she was on the verge of fainting. Her head felt as light as a feather, and the oxygen in her body was frail and practically nonexistent. She swallowed, taking a deep breath. Jackie hadn't heard who the male tribute was, nor did she know if she would even make the Hunger Games out alive, but she was completely certain of one thing: if it was a show they wanted, it would be a show they would get.

our stylists Vektir and Vera were Twins. They both had whitish blonde hair and pale gray eyes. They wore no makeup except for some white powder. They spoke with the Capitol accent, but it sounded more deep. Like if a capitol citizen had a cough. Anyway, they were kindhearted, and intelligent. and at least they didn't just paint us blue. the outfit was a surprise.

"Here." Vera said while handing me a package.

I shoved my hands under the thin ribbon and undid the knot. The package came open. a velvet dress and sandals slided out the package.

" Woah " I exclaim then go to put the dress on.

AT THE CHARIOT PLACE (?)

I got into the chariot with scorpio, who was smirking. he is wearing a toga and his messy, blonde hair is slicked to the side.
Why do I notice this?

" Need some help, sweetie?" he asks me as I Struggle to get on to the high chariot.
" Fine, thanks." I Say sarcastically and Climb on to the chariot. but then I slip.

ouch.

" Now, dont get your hair messed up." He says and strokes my hair.

I glare at him and move away. Then, suddenly the chariot Jerks and we move into the crowd.

People are staring at Us.

Then I see that at the back of us- waves are coming out of the smooth velvet on our toga, which is now rippling like the ocean.

I feel graceful, and free.

But then I realize im going into the hunger games.
