Jake Park

Jake walks along a street by himself, hoping that he can control his ability. There are people out there that want to kill him, and he doesn't want anything to do with them. Hopefully he can find someone like him that will talk to him. He ducks into an empty alley and makes sure no one is around. He concentrates very hard, and soon enough there's another Jake standing in front of him, staring back at him.

Jake Park

Jake's apparition in front of him zaps into invisibility as he hears a loud crash from the alleyway. He doesn't want anyone to find out he has an ability, so he runs away as fast as he can. He runs through the streets until he hits a bus stop. Once at the bus stop, he waits to take the bus to where his bike is; he intends to ride to the Ability Community before dark so that he can take some time off. Once the bus comes, he hops on and pays the driver. He sits next to a tall, dark, looming sort of man.

Miracle Evans

Miracle awoke with the feeling of something tugging at her hair. She gave a groan and moved her hand to push away the force. The sound of flapping wings and the tugging continued. She knew that Woodstock would keep this up for hours until she did what he wanted. Stubborn blue jay. The hammock swished as she pushed herself upwards. She raised her arms high over her head in a stretch and with practiced ease swung her legs over the side. She smiled at the fact that she hadn't fallen out of bed today. Had she been more superstitious she would have believed that meant she was going to have a good day. But she knew better than to believe in such omens. The universe did what it wanted, when it wanted and gave no hint to the next surprise it would give you.
Upon raising her head Woodstock hadn't gotten the message to let go so he hitched the ride up to her shoulder.
"Woodstock I didn't give you the ability to speak so you could act like an animal." she said turning to him. He shook his head as if to deny the thought and lifted off. She jumped back to avoid his wings and couldn't help chuckling. No matter how human she made him he would always act like a Jay. After brushing the frenzied hair from her face, she looker to see the jay perched on a rusty nail. He was grabbing the hem of her knapsack with his beak and then turning to her repeatedly.
"If you want food, you'll have to ask for it." she told the bird. He stopped his routine and squawked at her. She was sure if the tiny face could emote then it would express his complete disapproval. She kept her face stern and brought her hand to her ear.
"Waiting." she said in a sing-song voice. Woodstock ran his beak through his feathers but gave no indication that he planned on speaking. Miracle just walked to the other side of the house and watched him. Honestly speaking, the only reason she wanted him to speak was to hear another voice besides her own. Most of the time it was great to live out in her tree house but occasionally she came to miss civilization. They stayed in the deadlock with neither side relenting.
"Food." Woodstock feebly chirped. Miracle smiled at the small success and proceeded to reach her hand into the knapsack. It mustn't be easy for him to defy his nature and speak so she believed that some kind of reward was in order. Her hand scrambled around in the bag until her fingers grasped a solitary nut. The meal was good enough for Woodstock but she would have to go out for he own breakfast. She grabbed her coat from another protruding nail and turned back to survey the room. Woodstock was busy trying to crack the nut against the floor so she concluded that he wouldn't miss her if when she left. Her bed wasn't made, what few outfits she had were scattered across the floor, past projects could be seen nearly everywhere. So basically it was it normal messy self. Satisfied with how the room looked she opened the door and tentatively stepped out. Her foot caught the first rung of the ladder and she climbed down to the ground. It was no short distance to the ground but she made it in good time. She walked and pulled her bike out of where it hid behind some trees. Hopping on, she rode into the city of Vancouver.

"Strong thunder and lightning storms today. Winds at a high of 50 miles an hour. The weather is quickly getting worse and we advise that everyone stay inside. There is a tornado watch in effect so try not to be driving and if you can help it. If you are we recommend that you immediately seek shelter..." The television droned, turned up just loud enough to be heard above the pounding rain and howling winds. The windows rattled slightly as the rain smashed against them and ran off the roof in a cascade of water, steaming down the panes and soaking everything and everyone unluck enough to be caught outside.

"Most lightning deaths and injuries occur when people are caught outdoors. If you have been caught outdoors during the thunderstorm and no shelter is nearby try to find a low spot away from trees, fences and poles. If you are in the woods, take shelter under the shorter trees..." the familar voice belonging to the even more familar face on the screen said, looking very serious and concerned. Caprice glanced up from what she was doing to look at the TV, reading the caption at the bottom: High of 75 - Low of 40. Severe weather warning in effect. "If you are boating or swimming get to land and find shelter immediately. You should also get out of open areas such as golf courses, baseball fields and soccer fields..."

Looking back down on her hands Caprice carefully spread the peanut butter onto one slice of bread and then strawberry jelly onto the other before smushing them together and pouring herself a tall glass of milk. Placing the knife carefully in the sink she took her lunch to the kitchen table. "Also you are advised to lock your doors and windows if you are at home as robberies often occur during noisy storms like these." Caprice's mother continued in her lulling voice, depsite the grave danger. Caprice glanced out the window and nodded as thunder boomed and lightning streaked across the sky. Her mother was right again. And then of course that begged the question of; when did her mother ever get the news wrong?

Even a year ago it had rained gumdrops on April Fool's day. The government had decided that it was a big fan with "powers" but their was far to broad an audience to pin it on one person. The incident came and went pretty quickly and it was only on the news for a few days afterwards. The gumdrops had tasted pretty good too. Speaking of tasting good; Caprice took a bite out of her sandwich and took a swig of milk to wash it down, some of the peanut butter sticking to the roof of her mouth.

"If you feel your skin tingle or your hair stands on end squat low to the ground on the balls of your feet. Places your hands on your knees with your head between them. Make yourself the smallest target possible and minimize your contact with the ground..." Caprice couldn't help but wonder who tried this and why anyone would be simply standing there testing this theory. If it was up to her she'd be running for shelter like the devil was on her heels! "There have been reports of power failures and it is advised that you turn all lights off and unplug all eletronics. Stay tuned for more weather reports. Now to Daisy with the traffic report. All this nasty weather must have made the roads messy..." As she ate and listened to the report in the darkness of her house (as she'd turned the lights off already), Caprice tried not to look out the window and at the dark weather outside. But if she had, there had been a reflection; two spheres glowing purple.

Miracle Evans

Miracle kept her head down as she drove her bike through the heavy rain. It had sprung up right after she reached the edge of the city; the point of no return. Her hair was plastering itself to her face to the extent that she could hardly see where she was pedaling. Despite this she kept pushing one leg past the other to keep the bike moving. She just hoped that Woodstock had the sense to stay inside.
She flicked some hair hair out of her face just as she heard a bolt of lightning strike the top of a nearby building. In her surprise the bike swerved under her and the wet ground made it impossible to recover. She landed on her hands but there was too much momentum to stop her face from following. Her complaint was drowned out by the sounds of falling rain and distant thunder.
She lay there, doing her best to stay conscious. She tried to slip into the state of concentration her ability resided in but every drop of rain became a distraction. I'll get hypothermia before this rain stops she concluded. Grunting, she put her arms beneath her and pushed herself up with effort. Her bike had landed on top of her left leg and slowly she used the other to kick it off. Freed of the restraint she was able to push herself upright and take stock of her injuries. She had scrapes on her head, left hand and knee and her ankle might be sprained. No problem if she could find somewhere quiet to use her ability. Leaning against a street sign, she hoisted herself up and supported herself on her good leg. She took a tentative step with her sprained leg and tried not to grimace at the pain. She pushed off the post and limped over the nearest doorway. When she got there she brushed her soaked hair away from her face. She had to do her best to look semi nice or whoever was here wouldn't let her in. It didn't help that she hadn't done her hair in the first place. Taking a deep breath she banged her right hand on the door and hoped whoever answered would allow her inside.

(So sorry to be posting so late; I was grounded for a week from all internet and electronics)

Knock knock knock.

Caprice nearly jumped out of her skin and her head whipped around, half expecting to see some criminal checking for an unlocked window or door. Like her mom had told her before, the noise of the storm provided the perfect cover for any noise they might make when breaking in. But luckly there was no face peering in from outside and Caprice realized that the sound must be coming from the front door. But who would be knocking at her door at this hour, or in this weather none the less?

Setting her plate in the sink Cap hopped over to the door, peering through the peep hole and at the person standing outside. She didn't recognized the girl from anywhere, though she looked about Caprice's age. Additionally the girl outside was soaked, drentched and dripping water from head to toe and she looked a little beaten up like she'd been in an accident or walked into a tree or something. Lightning flashed, illuminating the dark landscape for a brief moment, followed by a loud crash of thunder.

Which remineded Caprice that the girl was standing outside during a dangerous lightning storm. She slowly unlocked and opened the door, peering outside at the strange new face. "Hello?" she asked, flipping on the porch light, looking at the girl. Her eyes faintly glowed purple, but the brightness of the overhead light dimmed them until they looked normal, hding their purple shine.

(Oh well there is nothing that could have been done about that. It's not like you were just ignoring the roleplay.)

Miracle raised her head as she heard the door open.
"Um. I kinda crashed my bike. So I kinda...can't get home. Would you mind if I stayed here? At least until the storm ends." she explained awkwardly. This entire situation was awkward to her. If her memory served, then she hadn't asked for help in years. Her independence was just too valuable to her. She was sure that she hardly appeared like someone you would want to let into your house. Even if she let people in the tree house, she was sure that she wouldn't let someone who looked like her there. She wrapped her arms around herself to offer a feeble protection against the cold. It felt as if every inch was soaked of her being was soaking wet and it wasn't pleasant.

"Um. I kinda crashed my bike. So I kinda...can't get home. Would you mind if I stayed here? At least until the storm ends." The girl said, hugging her arms close to her chest. Caprice could see her body shaking as the fabric was soaked and still dripping wet. Though it went against Cap's better judgement, she couldn't very well leave this girl out in the storm this late at night. "Sure, sure," Cap said, ushing the girl inside. "Here, let me get you a towel so you can dry off."

She lead the girl inside and sat her on the couch with a towel, the TV weather report still glowing, illuninating the room and blotting out Cap's eyes. "Let me go get you a blanket. You must be half frozen." She said kindly, pulling a warm blanket from the blanket closet and bringing it to where the girl sat. Gently she wrapped it around the shivering girl's shoulders. "Are you hungry? I could make you some soup to help warm you up."

Almost having forgotten her mannors, Caprice stopped in her tracks towards the kitchen and gave a friendly smile to the girl on the couch. "Oh yeah, I'm Caprice by the way, but most my friends just call me Cap. And you are...?"

"Miracle, and my friends don't really call me anything." She said taking a moment to think of Woodstock. She pulled the blanket around her tighter and let it's warmth soak into her. She lowered the blanket and rubbed the towel over her body until she wasn't quite as wet. She looked out the window and as another bolt of lightning flashed she couldn't help but think of Woodstock. It was the first storm that she hadn't been there to comfort him and he was terrified of storms. She felt she could feel his worry as he flew from wall to wall of the tree house. Where is miracle, why hasn't she come home, Is she hurt, has she forgotten me? were the questions she could feel him asking. She shook her damp hair to clear her mind of the thought. She should't worry about what she couldn't change;lesson number one. She turned to Cap and realized that she had almost completely forgotten her manners.

"Thank for your hospitality, Cap." she said giving Caprice forcing a forced smile. She had terrible people skills. Just a side effect of living in a secluded tree house with a blue jay as your only companionship. Ah too soon think of Woodstock again she thought. While she was looking at Caprice she cocked her head when she noticed her eyes.

"There's something about your eyes. Their purple!" she thought jumping back in her seat. She wasn't completely sure why she had jumped back. Cap didn't seem like someone she need to fear so maybe it was just happiness at finding another person with an ability.

(Sorry I haven't been online because we've had Christmas company over >_<)

"Miracle," Caprice mused, "That's a really pretty name. And it's no problem, really. After all with the storm outside so dangerous it's what any normal person would do." She offered a small smile as she took down a pot from the cabinet. There was a moment of uneasy silence and Cap could almost hear thoughts of consern from Miracle's mind, though she had no idea what they were about. Probably she was worried that her parents didn't know where she was, or maybe the storm would tear off the roof. Cap turned away from the stove to comfort her when she noticed Miracle staring intensely at her face. When Cap locked eyes with her the girl flinched back with alarm. Cap furrowed her brows, confused and worried.

"Hey, is there something wrong?" She asked catiously. Was there something on her face? Caprice self consciencely turned away and continued making the soup. Just then the lights flickered and the power went out, leaving the two girls in the chilled darkness with only the sounds of the storm outside. Cap groaned slightly. "Oh great, the power is out. I'll get the lanterns from the closet. Could you watch the soup? It's a gas stove so it doesn't rely on electricity. We can turn on the fireplace too."

With that Cap walked down the dark hallway and got three lanterns from the closet, flipping them on. As she walked back she glanced at a mirror hanging in the hallway, but the bright light from the lanterns outshone the purple light from her eyes and Caprice saw nothing. With a little nonchalant shrug she walked back into the kitchen and set down the bright lanterns. "That's better!" she said with a smile before walking over to the fireplace, "Now I'll get the fire going and it should warm this place up pretty quick."

Miracle continued staring at Caprice with her head cocked slightly to the side. Did she really not notice that her eyes were glowing purple or was she acting like didn't so Miracle wouldn't be freaked out? What was her ability anyway? Miracle couldn't see anything distinctly supernatural about the place and Cap didn't seem to be strange in anything but her eyes. But hey maybe Miracle was just being paranoid. She was pretty sure you could buy colored contacts.

She was amusing herself with the thought when the power went out. Miracle stopped her thoughts to look up at the lights. She didn't mind because after all she didn't have any electricity at her house.
"Oh great, the power is out. I'll get the lanterns from the closet. Could you watch the soup? It's a gas stove so it doesn't rely on electricity. We can turn on the fireplace too." "Okay." Miracle responded looking straight into Cap's still glowing eyes. She thought better than to mention it to her. She'll learn eventually Miracle consoled herself.

As soon as Cap was out of sight Miracle turned to her own affairs. Her ankle still hurt from falling off her bike and now would be a good time to fix it. Caprice was already being so hospitable to Miracle so it wouldn't be right burden her with injuries too. Plus, Miracle had no idea when she would get back home so she might as well get her practice in now. She hastily folded the blanket and placed it beside her. With both hands she pushed hair out of her face so that it wouldn't distract her while she worked. "All right let's go." she muttered and rolled down her sock to reveal the sprain. Instinctively, she stared intensely at the sprain and felt immediate results. The black and blue faded back to her normal skin tone and the swelling went down altogether.

In the time it took for Caprice to leave and come back with the lanterns, Miracle had healed her ankle and moved beside the soup.
"That's better!" Cap said with a smile before walking over to the fireplace, "Now I'll get the fire going and it should warm this place up pretty quick."
"That would be nice." Miracle said mindlessly looking out of nearest window. "Hey Caprice, When do you think the storm will let up."

"Hey Caprice, When do you think the storm will let up."

Caprice gazed out the same window, her glowing eyes taking in the scene outside. It was almost pitch black and the rain fell like ink, shattering on the drenched ground. The wind screamed outside the window and in dim light you could see the trees bending, weak branches falling and small debris that had not be saved from the storm being whipped around in the wind. With every flash of lighting and roar of thunder her eyes glowed brighter than before, a vibriant purple hue that shone fainty in the darkness of the house. "I have no idea," she said honestly as the wind howled, "Storms like this can go on for days or last a few minutes. I've seen both before. My mom would know though."

Walking over to the fire place she knelt down and turned on the gas. "My mom is the weather lady on channel 19." she said with a small amount of pride in her voice, "She's never gotten a forecast wrong ever since I was born and she took up the job. Some people say she's just lucky. Other say she's very talented. But a couple people think there's a person with some kind of super power something to do with the weather who's helping her out. One of her viewers maybe who likes her so much they make the weather to be exactly as she says." Cap struck the match and tossed it in, the fireplace lighting up immedieately.

"There we go!" she said with a small smile, standing up again and walking over to check on the soup. "Anyways, I don't know what I believe so I chose kind of just to stay out of it." she said with a small shrug, getting two bowls and spoons out. Noticing Miracle sitting on the couch with her ankle Cap asked, "Hey, is something wrong with your leg?"

Miracle Evans

"Hardly reassuring." She muttered under her breath. Every moment she stayed here was another moment Woodstock stayed at the tree-house. If he stayed at the tree-house. He wouldn't put it past the bird to leave in search of her. Stupid bird she thought but not without a bit sadness. She felt herself sift through their memories together. Sure there were some bad ones like this morning for example but they were easily out-weighed by good. Stop it, Miracle! Don't do that to yourself! came her mental reprimand. What was lesson number one?

She tried to distract herself herself by looking at various things around the house until she came to settle on Caprice.
"-a couple people think there's a person with some kind of super power something to do with the weather who's helping her out. One of her viewers maybe who likes her so much they make the weather to be exactly as she says." Cap struck a match and tossed it in and the fireplace lit up immediately. Miracle stared into the fire and focused in it's waving shapes as Cap continued her story. She gave off a half-hearted smile although she was paying Caprice little attention.

"Hey, is something wrong with your leg?" Cap's voice broke her out into her silence.
"Hm. Oh no it's fine." She told her. For good measure she lifted her legs off the couch and set them on the floor. "See?" Miracle sent back a reassuring smile.
"Enough about me, what about you." Miracle said hoping to lose herself in some small talk.
