Worldscape - The Colliding Worlds

Mamma used to say: "There's more than one way to tan a hide."

Technological gadgets. Cybernetic Implants. Bio-Ware. Designer drugs that gift temporary powers. For the past hundred years or so, the Tinker's Union has helped shape the world with their technological marvels, making augmentations of all kinds available for the betterment of mankind. The crux of their combined achievements are most certainly the city of Titan's Fall. By itself it could be the crowning technological achievement of Man. The city of opportunity, order, and justice... If you're wealthy enough.

If the Tinker Tech world of gadgets wasn't enough, there are the Deviations.

Humans who have diverged from the evolutionary path and developed super-human abilities.

According to the most recent census, there are approximately 30 million Deviations worldwide, though the accuracy of that number is subject to question. There could be many more that are unregistered, in hiding, or on the wrong side of the law. These powers come in all shapes and sizes, and groups often form around corporations and government or other organizations, Paragons and Villainous forces alike.

Lastly there's the rumors of the Arcane. Not much is known to the general public about the Arcane World, mainly just rumor and superstition. Agents of the Arcane tend to keep their dealings quiet, and are very secretive about their knowledge. If you're in, however... then you know.

They Named it "Titan's Fall"

Image

Titan's Fall is a mega-metropolis located in what used to be the Dallas / Ft Worth area of Texas. It was to be the site of Mankind's first fusion reactor. Reports claim that the area was struck suddenly by an unidentified object from orbit, critically damaging the facility and causing a critical meltdown. Only due to the efforts of renown hero and Templar, Titan were the majority of the people both at ground zero, and in the surrounding areas evacuated.

The loss of life was minimal thanks to the Templar and the evacuation. However the environment was critically damaged, and the mass electromagnetic surge wiped out electronics for hundreds of miles, further muddying the record of events. An unparalleled catastrophe that left a crater encompassing the entire Dallas / Ft worth area, no less than a hundred miles wide of unfathomable depth.

It was dubbed The Texas Abyss.

Rather than let nature and disaster keep that chunk of land, the Tinker's Union, Templar, and a number of corporations set themselves to building a newer, bigger Metroplex suspended over the corpse of the old on massive plates. A feat of engineering like no other. While the East Coast's Atlas City claimed the honor of mankind's first fusion reactor, everything is always bigger in Texas.

At the center of the city is the world's first Arcology, Templar Tower. A staggering alabaster tower at the city's center, over fifty-six kilometers in diameter at its base, and nearly ten kilometers tall above the surface. A structure so massive, they had to reroute air traffic to accommodate it. It's host to the majority of the population of the area, as entire cities are encompassed within its many floors. While much of the industry and corporate buildings encompass the surrounding areas, and exterior suburbs have formed around the rim of the city, pretty much everything you could want or need is located within the Arcology. It boasts bleeding edge hydroponics, generates its own power, and of course has its own economy. A truly self-sustained nation within the city where nothing is beyond your grasp, and they named the greater area after the hero that was instrumental in saving the lives that helped create it.

The Arcology: Templar Tower

Templar tower is it's own microcosm within the City. A completely self-contained nation within the city that grows and produces its own food, generates its own power, and has its own economy. Live, work, and play in the cityscape of Floor 42, where the temperature is always a balmy 76 degrees. Take a walk in idyllic Errant Park. Shop for fresh produce in the local Hydroponics Market.

The inside of Templar Tower is a simulated heaven with perfect weather, the occasional scheduled rain shower, and its own residential and shopping districts. Some of the younger residents have been living in the Arcology long enough to have never seen the outside world. There's just... no reason to go out there! In fact, it's better than the outside. On the surface it appears to be an idyllic paradise, where people live their lives in peace in the absence of crime or strife... or so we'd like to believe.

Image

The environment is heavily regulated in order to preserve the media-perfect Disneyland-esque appearance, but underneath the shiny coat of paint it's just as grimy as the outside world. While violent crime is virtually unheard of inside, the bureaucratic machine is hard at work scheming its morally ambiguous dealings and dirty politics. Trafficking of the dangerous, incredibly popular, highly illegal Better Than Life neuro chips is an epidemic in the tower.

Sex with the hottest Celebs? Scaling the peaks of the Himalayas? Want to find out what it's like to be Super? Not edgy enough? Want to know what it feels like to kill someone? Be a predator of the innocent? Nothing is off limits when it comes to BTL, and all from the comfort of your favorite chair. The un-regulated rush of some of these "fantasies" is so addictive that many who get hooked end up spending most of their time chipped. BTL addicts commonly die from starvation or dehydration because they forget to un-chip and take care of themselves.

Most are found drooling in their apartments from the neural burnout of chasing bigger and better highs, or driven to madness from the blackest content.

The Corporate Kingdom

Image

The exterior plates are home mainly to the corporations and their related industries, with entirely Corporate owned towns, or Corpo Estates built around them. The largest of which encompasses an entire plate. Secret wars are fought over the Corpo territories, and espionage is the major industry.

Ares Laser Technology owns the entirety of the Sector 7 plate. Ares isn't the only weapons manufacturer in the Corporate Kingdom, but they are the largest, having cornered the market in laser and directed energy weapons. It's speculated that the CEO is a Tinker, as while the majority of the products are serviceable by experienced technicians, the rarest and most expensive of Ares' designer weapons can only be maintained by the CEO himself.

Ares has spread to the absolute edges of the Sector 7 plate, and tensions are extremely high along their borders where they constantly threaten to absorb smaller corporations and take over their territory.

Down Into The Abyss

The UnderCity. It goes by many names, but there is only one unifying word to describe the crater beneath the city:

Slums.

Image

The truth is that the wealthy can afford luxuries that aren't available to the citizens in lower income brackets. Amenities such as sunlight, clean air, personal transportation, and the protection of the Templar. A large portion of the lower middle-class, and other under-privileged people lives in the Abyss: the massive crater beneath the plates. Slum cities have formed underneath the city where people who can't afford topside luxuries have gathered. They form a ring around the core tower, extending roughly half-way into the depths. While the crater does continue to extend as far as one dares venture into the black, it's generally accepted that nobody crosses the border into the Graves, where the ruins of old Dallas are located. From the border you can still see the support base of Templar Tower reaching into the abyss, where most of the Arcology's hydroponics and other support systems are located.

Some even speculate that the building reaches the planet's core.

The UnderCity is also plagued by regular attacks of mutant swarms that crawl out of the Graves. They typically claw their way out of the ruins in rough intervals of two to five weeks. The more powerful creatures sometimes make their way to the surface, though often they are swiftly eliminated by Corpo squads or Templar before they can cause any real harm. Oddly, these attacks aren't really seen as a bad thing. See... meat, and other livestock resources, like bone and leather, are extremely scarce and expensive in the UnderCity. Some brave soul discovered that the meat from these creatures is free of parasites, won't make you sick when properly cooked, and doesn't taste half bad! If you're really lucky you'll get one that tastes just like surface beef. The Hunt has become a fiercely competitive event and squabbles sometimes break out over choice cuts and materials. Nothing goes to waste, however: even the creature bones are useful for structural reinforcement.

Mo' Money, Mo' Problems

ImageCurrency makes the world go round... but not every economy is made equal, even in Titan's Fall. Within the Arcology, expect to pay for goods and services with the Standard Credit (SC, Cred, Crypto), just as you would pretty much everywhere else in the world. SC is a generally accepted crypto-currency which more or less replaced paper money: the result of standardizing the global economy. It's accepted pretty much everywhere worldwide, and there is typically no reason to convert it into other foreign currencies. SC is typically held in a secured digital wallet, however can be transferred to a "CredStick" to be transported physically. Another useful feature of theirs is that CredStick transactions are anonymous and untraceable.

While SC is generally accepted in the Corporate Kingdom, most Estates prefer you exchange your SC for the local currency. Most Estates in the Corporate Kingdom run on Corpo Scrip, the currency Corporations pay their Wage-Slaves with. Each Estate typically has their own Scrip, usable anywhere! ...At least within the Estate that the scrip originated from. Scrip is worthless outside of the Estate where it was originated, and converting SC to Scrip is generally accepted to be a one-way transaction. Besides cluttering digital wallets, Scrip can also be useful for garnering favors with specific Corporations, or trading for small amounts of Clat at the Halcyon Horde.

Clat. UnderCity currency. Short for "Clatter." Clat is a blue-tinged doughnut shaped coin made of a Copper-Platinum alloy. They are generally bound together and transported on ropes of 100. Your Credits and Scrip are worthless in the Undercity, goods and services can only be bartered for with Clat. Good news, however, you can exchange your foreign currencies at the Halcyon Horde for Clat... for a small convenience fee. The going rate of exchange for SC is about 2.125 SC per Clat. Scrip can also be exchanged, however the rate varies wildly depending on which Estate the scrip is good for, with Ares Scrip currently holding the highest value.

Upgrades! TransHumanism and You

Image

Cybernetic, Bio-Tech, and Chemical augmentations are a fledgling industry. Popular among the Corpo Elite and their retinue, these augmentations range from cybernetic limb replacement, to neural implants, to designer genetic treatments. Even drugs which grant temporary powers are not beyond the reach of the wealthy. While prevalent topside in the Corpo Culture, most of these augmentations haven't yet trickled into the mainstream.

However, that hasn't stopped the rise of the... secondhand market.

Notable Factions

I will attempt to keep this list up-to-date as we add more. For now these are the most relevant factions to be aware of for the purpose of the narrative.

Tinker's Union - A global organization dedicated to protecting the interests and rights of Tinkers. Because Tinkers can create things that nobody else can, they are often a highly sought after commodity amongst organizations of all kinds; Government, Paragon, and Villainous alike. Before the union, Tinkers were commonly fought over, even to the point of war since the country, corporation, or organization that controlled the Tinker-Tech had a decided advantage. A Tinker-Tech weapon gone wrong exposed a terrorist organization when a Tinker made WMD was detonated accidentally in the late 2000s. This event spurned the creation of the Union in order to both ensure that the rights of Tinkers were being respected, and to prevent villainous and terrorist organizations from exploiting them. Once per year, for about two weeks, all the members of the union vanish to a secure, undisclosed location for reasons unknown.

ImageThe Templar - A US government operated Superhero Organization, specializing in dealing with Villainous Deviations and Anti-Terrorist operations. While they do operate nationwide, and even assist in other countries when necessary, they are most notable in Titan's Fall where they've more or less become the de-facto keepers of the peace. While they specialize in dealing with super human threats, they are often called upon in Titan's Fall in lieu of the Police to deal with more mundane crimes. It's not in their official capacity, and these calls are often deferred to the police anyway, but having a Templar show up to figure out what's going on and if a Deviant related crime has occurred is far more comforting to the Tower locals than seeing a normal blue Uniform. They are easily recognized by their white uniforms, crimson cross emblem, and Crusader-esque knight motif. While other super-hero organizations do exist within Titan's Fall, with their HQ occupying the entire top 2 floors of the Arcology, the Templar are both the most notable, and have the largest presence in the city.

The Rogue Collective - Calling them a "super-group" would be a... strong overstatement, since the term implies some modicum of organization. The Collective isn't so much a group, as a bunch of Vigilantes, or other Rogue Deviants that have the common interest of making sure there isn't any fuckshit going on in the UnderCity. Not so much Crime-Fighters as they are "Peace Mediators." Most Rogues don't really care about monitoring or curbing illicit activity, since generally speaking the Law is whatever the Horde says it is. Violent crime, however, is a big no-no downstairs, and if things turn violent, you can expect Rogues to turn up to put a stop to it... violently. Some Rogues have taken to patrolling in territories, and the rules are different depending on who's territory you're in. Some Rogues abhor all crime, and will vigilantly put a stop to it anywhere in their territory. Others mainly hunt after a specific kind of criminal. The borders of these territories tend to change, but can generally be discerned by the Rogue's iconography painted onto walls and paths.

The Halcyon Horde - The Undercity Bank... the ONLY Undercity Bank. The Halcyon Horde are the true rulers of the UnderCity, at least in so far as that it's generally accepted that you don't fuck around with them. The Halcyon Horde controls the Clat. They are also the only place in the city where you can convert SC to Scrip, Clat, or the other way around. It's usually much more cost effective to buy Scrip from the horde than to exchange with the Estates directly due to the exchange rates as well. Their rule is generally pretty lax in the UnderCity so long as you don't get in their way, cause trouble, or disrupt their business in any fashion. Getting on their bad side can make it impossible to do any business in the Undercity, however.

Ares Laser Technology - The largest weapon manufacturer in the city, if not the world. Ares is run by an elusive Tinker that nobody can seem to pin down. Their presence in the Corporate Kingdom is oppressive. They've absorbed all the competing corporations that started out in Sector 7, and have grown to occupy the entire plate. They are constantly battling with the neighboring corporations and attempting to expand across the plate borders. The Ares Sector is almost a nation unto itself, and even has its own police and military forces.

ImageDocWagon - The DEFINITIVE private medical service. Bleeding edge medical technology meets para-military force. Platinum Insurance carriers have the security of knowing that if their life is in danger a hardened squad of pipe-hitting combat medics will hot drop onto their location, eliminate any immediate threat to their person, and evacuate them to safety where they can be treated. Armed with the best training and equipment money can buy, and some of the strongest Deviants, they are not a force to take lightly. Corpo elites and other wealthy well-to-dos that can afford the small fortune it costs for the Platinum level medical insurance can be easily identified by the platinum bracelet which constantly monitors the wearer's vitals. DocWagon's headquarters, private hospital, and motor pool occupy a significant portion of the Sector 3 plate.

Oracles of the One - "Oracles" for short. A quasi-terrorist cult of religious fanatics who believe that Deviations are unnatural, demonic entities that must be purged from the Earth. Recently, their definition of "Deviation" has grown to include cybernetic and bio-technical augmentations. Believed to be the parent organization to the Witchfinder Generals, who operate mainly on the East Coast. Oracles are difficult to reason with, and have taken credit for many hate crimes against the super-human population. Though they are not limited to operating in Titan's Fall, they have become increasingly active there in recent months.

The Rippers - A small, but extremely dangerous gang of "chrome enthusiasts." It's unsure what started them since Cybernetics are mainly found in the Corpo sectors, but this group of augmentation fanatics have a violent reputation for hunting down people with desirable mods and stealing them. The condition of the "donor" is irrelevant so long as the mods aren't harmed. They earned their moniker from from a viral news story covering one of the early attacks, where a Corpo Exec was attacked for his chrome, and left ripped open in the street to die after his mods were removed.

The Cult of Flesh - This pseudo-religious cult worships Bio-Tech, and is constantly seeking to improve their evolutionary status through mutations and bio-mods. They shun cybernetic modification, and as such have an ongoing rivalry with the Rippers. Although the "Apex" among them, or their highest ranking members have the most human appearance, it's usually very easy to identify the rank and file of the cult by counting the number of appendages on a person. More often than not, if someone has any more than the normal amount, they probably belong to the cult.

Other Places of Note

Image

Nowhere- A surprisingly well made (and fortified), three story rock club and tavern built in a space between the under and upper city levels. Exclusive in a sense that you are either introduced or invited by one of the regular patrons, it’s considered one of the few corporate free establishments in the city and neutral ground in terms of super and mundane politics and laws. Famous as a den for people looking for odd jobs along with mercenaries and rogue supers looking to sell their services. The bottom floor is a fight club for mundane and super fights alike. The healthy gambling involved in the fights attracts corporate types.

Anyone caught breaking Underground rules will be given one warning before being banned for life.

The Legality of "Heroism"

Just like in the "real" world, taking the law into your own hands is deeply frowned upon. Having super-powers only compounds the issues, and the population of Deviants is becoming large enough to where handling these issues on a case by case basis is no longer feasible. Some crude laws were slapdashed together as a stopgap while the state and federal governments argue over the best course of action. While the actual socialscape of the 'good Samaritan' is an ambiguous grey mess right now, the law is pretty cut and dry.

  • If you do not have a license, you are not a "Hero."
  • If you practice "Heroism" without a license, you are a Vigilante.
  • Vigilantism is prohibited.
  • If property or people have been damaged in an act of Vigilantism, the minimum charge is "assault with a deadly weapon", or "destruction of property."
  • If a citizen is killed during an act of Vigilantism, the minimum charge is "Murder, in the 2nd degree."

Toggle Rules

Rules ... or some shit.
Spoiler: show
1. Burnout is a thing.
2. I don't want to be the full time GM.
3. Whoever's Arc is the current narrative focus will be the GM.
4. Use the WORM power rating system because I'm lazy.

NOTE: I don't know how well this system applies to magic as opposed to super powers. Maybe just divide magic into "spells" instead of powers? If the system truly doesn't fit we can come up with something else for it.

5. All the normal shit that shouldn't bear repeating.
6. If you need to be reminded of anything that falls under rule 5... Sai will mock you relentlessly.
7. Sai may mock you relentlessly anyway.

Archer sat on the floor, leaning back on one hand, his other draped over an elevated knee. An unlit cigarette hung loosely from his lips, the end flicking upwards periodically as he dabbed the filter with his tongue... it was rude to smoke in someone else's home. Nevertheless, it satisfied that itch to have something while he thought and watched the [Crimson] combat his efforts and eat away at key points in the array he'd constructed.

It was resistant to change, aggressively almost... like its progenitor. He should have guessed: Mana was a primal force, and often colored by the person wielding it... sometimes quite literally. The fact that the concentration of mana was so elevated in Yue's apartment was a testament to how much time she spent there unconsciously burning it. Haze, the byproduct of spent mana, also accumulated quite quickly in this space, likely because of how inefficiently Yue used her powers. She was like a big engine muscle car with huge power and poor mileage, and the [Crimson] reflected that.

His eyes traveled around the apartment slowly. Yue had opted to remove the majority of the dividing walls in her apartment, making it a giant open studio with only the bathroom segregated by walls. Dark curtains covered the panorama window, letting only a sliver of the afternoon light to cut harshly into the kitchen area. The bed was a circular mattress made to fit in the depression of the integrated sofa/conversation pit with the rig she ran Final Odyssey dominating one side, and the sofa cushions haphazardly used as nightstands. The [Crimson] clinged nostalgically to the areas Yue lived most... the cleanest areas, oddly enough.

The apartment wasn't dirty, but it was littered with the obvious signs of untreated depression. Her bed was unkempt, though the space where she spent time playing was kept tidy. A dirty sock was left hanging not-quite inside the dirty clothes hamper, and her one unwashed plate hung precariously on the side of the sink. Judging from the way the [Crimson] fermented on its surface, it was probably the only dish she used. Coupled with the small sauce pan left out on the stove, slightly charred from over-use and the open pantry full of top ramen it seemed that no real care was given towards her nutrition. A glance at the garbage can full of delivery tins confirmed that she ate out frequently and didn't really cook for herself. The spartan lack of furniture or decoration was also telling in and of itself.

He sighed. Archer frequently argued against the moratorium on revealing the Awakened World to the uninitiated. The culture shock of discovering fantasy was real had to be less damaging than the emotional and environmental consequences of letting them stumble around, blindly thrashing mana about like a blunt object as they discover their powers while behavioral "specialists" tell them they're sick in the head. Yue was also a special case, to be kept ignorant of the Awakened World as long as possible. Something to do with her family history if he understood the heavily redacted file they'd shoved into his hands in a panic when she enlisted with the Templar. The corners of his mouth curled into a frown, and the [Crimson] smashed a keystone glyph, shattering the array with a growl. The keychain figurine flung was from the bed petulantly and he reached out to catch it.

The [Crimson] pressed around him cloyingly, projecting Yue's inner turmoil and feeding off his negative emotions. He sat up and pressed his hand to the cold marble, igniting a protection glyph and allowing the mana to etch back into the invisible ink in his skin, travelling up his arms and vanishing into his clothes. The heavy aura reluctantly retreated back to the comfort of the bed, and they spent a long moment staring at one another. The [Crimson] was on the verge of becoming its own Domain, which was troublesome by itself, and also posed a complication in his plan.

"This is going to take longer than I thought," he muttered, taking a dry pull on the cigarette and inhaling the aroma of tobacco. There was also the AI to contend with: the barrier that he'd placed on the apartment wouldn't shield him from the system's prying eyes forever. The longer he faffed about trying to come up with an elegant solution, the more likely Sovereign would discover something amiss and flag his intrusion.

Gemini: Help.
Gemini: One of the lab techs keeps coming to the front desk and making advances.

He thinks we're hot.
Flirt with him.

Gemini: TF is 'Chaat??'

It's... like a spicy doughnut.

Gemini: Euugh, that sounds gross.
Gemini: Do we like it??

Can this wait?
Busy trying to coax an emergent Domain into an Anime figurine.

Gemini: OMG. Just force it.
Gemini: Can't negotiate with Mana.
Gemini: Your will has to be stronger than the imprint.
Gemini: Sometimes the best tool for the job really is a hammer.

The cigarette fell into his lap. Of course! The [Crimson] was stubborn and resistant because Yue was stubborn and resistant. He clambered to his feet, scooping the cigarette behind one of his ears and gazing intently at the aura, which seemed to read his intent and hunkered down on the bed even further.

"I need a broom for this," he muttered, squinting at the anomaly.

It had been Alex’s suggestion to try and take any back alley and unmonitored routes to Freya’s. Though news that a Templar had fallen into the undercity would be some news, he preferred that they didn’t kick the hornets' nest and possibly send the various gangs and factions into a frenzy over a possible “crusade” coming down below. Though most of the others stayed out of rogue business as much as they could, keeping the woman “out of sight and out of mind” was the best way to go in the long term. Dean had hopped off the comms to see what he could figure out and try and play interference however he could. Because “The Horde will be the least of our problems if this blows up in the wrong ways.”

He unfortunately was forced to go back out and about when he expressed feeling a tad hungry. Most of the other rogues knew of appetite and Freya wasn’t all that willing to watch him clear out her pantry. He had been outside of the residential districts for a while now, leaving himself open for the local fauna. It was right around when Alex was thinking he was just gonna have to suck it up and go to a butchery that he heard a guy wrap roar.

The beast crashed through heaps of overgrown scrap as it charged him. A scuttling mound of chitin with a massive segmented mouth agape with dozens of nasty teeth. There were no visible eyes and for some reason there was a mound of tentacles writhing behind it. The thing was easily the size of a car. Alex let out a satisfied chuckle as the dumb beast closed in. ”Finally, meal time.” He took a step back and got into a ready position while bouncing on the balls of his feet, headless to the creature ready to try and devour him.

Right at the last moment before so much as a tooth even grazed his armor, Alex dashed to the side. Before the creature had time to correct its charge Alex had already pivoted with his hands raised, bringing them down along with the blade of an oversized sword of bright blue telekinetic light. The surprised squeal from the beast was literally cut off as it’s stubby head was lopped off in one swing. It’s stump of a neck seemingly not even bleeding while it’s body slumped to the ground. It’s head tried desperately to snap at the man that had easily slain it.
Alex was unimpressed. But he was just happy he had his free meal now. He proceeded to punt the dying head quite some distance before hefting the carcass. ”Don't know what you were, but I hope you taste like crab.”

As he was on his way back, he could feel his barriers holding the Templar in place straining and cracking. Not completely shattered though. The fact that his comms weren’t blaring with the others telling him she was escaping made him less worried. It was fine, probably . . . . Hopefully. He sped up a bit just to be safe.

He arrived from an entrance big enough for his “catch” to be brought in. There was no way he was preparing this outside to let vermin get any of the scraps. ”I'm back! And I got what I think is squid or octopus and crab or lobster. We’ll see.” he left the corpse to go check on everyone, eyes glowing with power ready to be released at a moment's notice. When he walked in to find everyone in one piece and the Templar up, he folded his arms o Te his chest and nodded his head at the restrained woman. ”Are we good to let her out?” he let the question hang as he took stock of everyone. Cyber Ninja’s mechanic was here so he was gonna keep his helmet on in the meantime. Finally he addressed the Templar directly. ”Sorry about the restraints, I kinda had to go overkill to be sure you didn’t try cracking anyone’s skulls there. How’s your head?”

Aaaaand there he was: the culprit. Her warden. The man between her and the only thing that felt right in this primitive, broadband-free hellscape... The man between her and cookie. Yue narrowed her burgundy eyes up at him. She immediately experienced a flash: an ominous silhouette, towering in the dust. Spikes of demonic energy bristling over its skin. Eyes seething with power. It hit her like a ton of bricks, and if she hadn't been already held up by the barriers she may have keeled over.

She examined him more closely as he was entering: Tall. Broad shouldered. Barrel Chest. Muscular. Brute? No... maybe just a Psycher that works out a lot? Brutes with Blaster/Shaker type abilities are incredibly rare. Blue eyes... Luminous(?) Was she the only one who saw that?

Her eyes flicking quickly across the room seemed to confirm that nobody else was bothered by Mr. Spends-Cred-On-Aura-Cosmetics-But-Has-A-Crap-Armor-Set. Ugh. Self-made for sure. Low to Mid Tier crafter. Final Fashion rejected. Wait. He's saying something.

Accelerated?? When did that happen?

Yue found herself coiled against the barriers with the [Crimson] roiling in her ears, ready to leap out and cleanse him the moment she was no longer restrained. What provoked such a visceral reaction? Did he do something in that fuzzy period between [impact] and consciousness? She forced herself to relax. It wouldn't do to be starting a fight here in the Viking's home... not when there were cookies at stake. Yue exhaled and slowly released the coil of power built up inside her, letting the world fall back into normal time.

".............. anyone’s skulls there. How’s your head?”

Skulls??!!!

This is just like the season one narrative in Final Odyssey where the big bad pretended to be one of the Adventurer's companions for like... the entire campaign. He even had a super useful camp-ability like [Cooking] to lure you into a false sense of security. Everyone thought I was crazy for re-speccing to Paladin because "ew, who wants to play a support-tank, lol?" Then bam! Demon-King. Nobody saw the warning signs, the innocuous Freudian slips, the oh-so-convenient way he always managed to not be around whenever something bad happened at camp??

AAAAAAAAAAAAAH! OK... let's not overreact here.

Play it cool, play it cool... He doesn't know that I know...

"Um. Foggy," she answered after a short, but noticeable delay. "I think I hit my head pretty hard when I landed. I... don't really process pain signals though," she paused again, for just a moment. He didn't need to know that. Stop giving up free information! "So, uh, I won't be able to tell if I'm seriously injured without an exam."

Zolya let a cheeky smile adorn her face as the two before her went on a full defensive, especially the mechanics flustered reaction was just too perfect. With her at just the right height combined with the cybernetic ninja's words a little naughty thought entered her mind and no sooner she grabbed Ako around the shoulders and pulled the mechanic girl face first into her pillows. "Seems he likes them like this. Hmmm, too bad I'm not interested in a purple wand." She says teasingly letting the poor mechanic girl go as she brings her hand to her face to give the illusion like she was seriously considering it.

She walked to the table on which Temujin was splayed out settling to half leaning half sitting on the table. "That being said you might as well sculpt him to your liking, a build a boy if you would. Not like he is in any position to stop you right now." Zolya teased poking the cyborgs detached arm on the last note.

The Templar seemed to immediately light up upon the mention of cookies an excitement that was extinguished just as swiftly as it's onset as it crumbled against Alex's barriers around her face. "Ah right, he didn't leave even that little area without his layers of barriers." Raudd mumbled just as the man in question walks onto the premise claiming he brought something to eat. "Great, mystery meat." He mumbled trying to take a peek through the door what the cat dragged in, luckily though he had used enough common sense to not drag it further inside than the kitchen where the catch lay out of sight of Raudd. Blood stains on anything other than glazed tile would always be a disaster.

As he looked back to the templar though he noticed she looked a lot more tense than a moment before. Though it took a moment to process the information with Alex interrupting his thoughts with his talking things clicked for him. "Well now that's something." He mumbled before turning his head to Alex. "Aegis, go back to the kitchen and close the door behind you, after that you can slowly release the barriers." He said trying to convey the seriousness of the situation. Last thing they needed was that templar going berzerk in the house due to a trauma caused by Aegis' prior actions.

Zolya now taking note of the situation thanks to her brothers tone walked over to the window side of the bed and squatted down next to the templar. Miss, we'll take you to a doctor or if you want we could ask a doctor to come over, but first you need to listen to me. It seems you've had a psychosis of some kind after you fell down here, you were attacking everyone in your sight, hence the restraints. While we've been talking you seemed to have been mostly calm, but upon the sight of Aegis..." She calmly explain, but the moment she said Alex's name she realized she may just stepped on a potential landmine and Raudd sensing the same quickly stepped in or rather stepped in front of the door covering Alex from her sight.

... Upon seeing him you seemed to become very agitated. It might be triggering some kind of trauma, so for now he's going to remain out of sight and I would ask for you to calm down so we can help you. Do you understand what I just told you?" She finished with the same calm tone of voice. It wasn't the complete picture of what happened, but keeping the shapeshifting monster out of it for now was probably in everyone's interest.

"I hit my head pretty hard when I came down. I don't really remember anything after that," she answered slowly. Her tone had shifted, and she seemed to be regarding everyone much more cautiously. The only reason she wasn't pavement pizza was the suit... what was left of it, anyway, but they didn't need to know that.

Yue pressed her lips together. The head injury she suffered might be more severe than she thought, and a lot of other unlikely things would have had to align perfectly. If she suffered a TBI, even a minor one like a concussion and then was driven to a catatonic fear state she could see her body acting autonomously in pure self-preservation mode... It's not like there wasn't precedence, but she was a child at the time and Titan had scooped her up a little too roughly, so he didn't press charges after she put him in the hospital.

If one of did something that could be perceived as aggressive then she couldn't be blamed: It's legally self defense after that... Besides, the only thing nowadays that could drive her that kind of fear were giant spiders... and there's no way those are real!

No. Let's face it. "BuT hE STaRtEd iT!" is a tenuous legal defense at best. We're going to jail. In Hell. With no internet GOD how will I survive?!

March 11th, 2045 - 7:03 AM - Laboratory 3CH0, Lead Researcher Dalmont’s office

Ma’am. I can hear you.

No ma’am? I’m afraid not. The last I heard from Heller or Richardson, they were addressing a security breach within laboratory Echo 5, Alma.

M-Ma’am? I… Don’t believe I can answer that with any sort of clarity. I wasn’t made aware of what they were working on there, as stated within our guidelines, set by you and professor Menagerie.

I understand ma’am, I’ll have Leeds get on it. Do we move to extermination or re-acquisition— Oh. Yes ma’am. Are you sure? Would you be okay with such a waste of… Resources, ma’am?

Oh. I understand, yes ma’am. … Do, we… Have any more information? What is it— Ah, yes ma’am. I appreciate it!

Of course ma’am, dossier received. From my sister’s journal no less…

Oh! No ma’am, we’re siblings by circumstance, not by blood. Same college.

… Oh. I- Yes ma’am. I see. Thank you. I … Appreciate your letting me know. I’ll um… Arrange a funeral, soon.

Yes. Yes okay. I appreciate it. Should— Should I let the group of them know? I can send them to The Stoneworks…? The twins that run it could help trace— Yes ma’am.

Yes ma’am. I’ll send a runner to them… I apologize for the, ah, inconvenient circumstances. I’ll… I'll speak to you later ma’am, if there’s nothing else?

Yes ma’am. I’ll… Make a note. Are we sending, uh, the other ones then…?
. . . . .

Yes— Erm— Yes ma’am. Yes ma’am, I’m sorry. I’ll make a note. Thank you.

Thank you for your time, Miss Menagerie.

It took some time for the little weasel-like man to scramble from the outskirts of the Undercity to the beginnings of The Stoneworks. His mustache twitched, his eyes darted about, and he leaned his head back with a laborious sigh.

And a swift burst of mana flashed up into the air, invisible to the normal eye, but unmistakable to ‘those in the know’.
And then he waited, eager to give his message and scramble back home.

Mere moments after the burst of mana reached for the skies did the skies answer, a solitary raven swooped down low over the man before landing on a nearby lamppost. "What you want intruder?" It Screaked at the man swiftly followed by a cacophony of other ravens echoing 'intruder' as the dropped down from the skies landing on the rooftops, awnings balconies and other such perches overlooking the man until nearly every ridge had turned black with ravens.

The man clearly taken aback by the welcome he had received spoke up while trying to regain composure "I... I have to speak with your boss, Fre-" More could not leave his mouth before a deafening cawing of obvious displeasure interrupted the man.

"Never speak her name, caw. We will listen...We will answer." the one on the lamppost continued with the others parroting 'listen' and 'answer' in a discordant mess. At this point a couple curious wolves joined in to look at what had stirred the ravens, as if wondering when and how to strike at the weasel-man in front of them they began circling close around the man.

The man continued to press with frustration building in his voice. "I was specifically instructed to meet..." A malicious chuckle from one of the wolves robbed the man of his voice. "Heh heh, meat, heh heh." It growled visibly licking it's razor sharp teeth as it circled uncomfortably close. "Speak human!" The other commanded in a growl.

Perhaps reconsidering his position the man didn't attempt to press further. "I whaas.. Ehrm, I was asked b-... By my boss to request your... Your masters help finding a missing subject-." He spoke slowly feeling a proverbial knife on the throat in the form of the wolf currently still licking his teeth while humming "meat, meat, meat, how I'd love to eat." with that malicious grin on it's face and it's eyes trained straight on the man's jugular. With the ravens parroting 'master' 'help' and 'subject', this time in an almost mocking tone.

"A... A shapeshifter of sorts, appears, eh... Kind of like a roiling... Mass of ink." The man hesitantly continued looking around to check there were no others listening in on the conversation, only to see the streets empty other than the masses of birds looking straight at him and the two wolves circling at his feet. "We know... We have seen." The ravens screaked in unison then repeating those words loudly and discordantly like a mad cult. Upon hearing this the man jolted towards it trying to avoid touching the wolves in the process. "That's fantastic can you tell me where you saw it?" The man said with a voice sweet enough to rot ones teeth straight out of their mouth and a customer service smile so fake it would leave one to recoil from disgust.

"No, bring us shinies... Then we speak." The Raven on the lamppost commanded silencing the chorus of ravens momentarily before a discordant chant of 'shinies' broke free among them. Quick to react the man grabbed some broken pieces of glass and some shiny pebbles from the floor and help them up to the one on the lamppost. "Here, here, now tell me whe-..." Before the man could finish speaking the chorus of crows cawed once more in displeasure and screaked "No" from the tops of their lungs. "You bring what is worth, we tell what is truth." The one on the lamppost screaked before flying up.

With the one on the lamppost gone the others flew up as well, but not without grabbing little pebbles and hard nuts with which they began to pelt the man from above. After feeling the first pebble hit their head the man knew what rain was to come and began to run away from the Stoneworks as fast as his feet could carry. Though that wasn't all his worries as with the sound of panting behind him cold sweat flowed down his back realizing the wolves hadn't left him yet. One of them jumped forwards and snapped at the man's legs tearing a hole in his pants before coming to a full stop with the other one stopping next to him. "Nice to meat you. Heh, heh." It growled fabric stuck between his teeth and a malicious grin plastered on it's face.

Alex glanced between Raudd and the templar before giving a curt nod. She did kinda go ballistic on him before and he did toss her around like a ragdoll, probably for the best that he gave her space. Alex waved to everyone else present before closing the door behind him and heading back to the kitchen. He had to figure out how to prepare this thing. Eyeing the beastly corpse one last time, he decided he would figure it out as he went. taking of his gloves and getting washed and prepared before he really got to cooking got him time to really think. There was a Templar down in the undercity. with any luck that meant the various gangs and factions would hear hear about this sooner or later. Depending on hos this goes it could become easier or exceptionally more difficult to get the stranded woman back topside. Given that Alex went up top a bit more regularly then the average undercity resident there was a good chance of him staying involved with this mess. Not that he would ever complain to helping someone, he just REALLY didn't want to potentially have to deal with a woman constantly trying to harm him the entire trip. Alex's thoughts wandered for a bit after that as he began butchering the creature with barrier made implements and blades. best not to dent or damage Zolya and Raudd's kitchenware in the prep phase.

He had just started to crack open the shells to get too the beasts meat after having removed its tentacles when his helmet lit up with a call coming in. Dean on the other end, better check that out.

"Talk to me buddy. What's happening on your end?" He grunted a bit as shell pealed away from crustacean like flesh. Dean sounded a bit frazzled on his end. "You want the good news or the bad news my man?" Alex took a moment to consider before shrugging to himself. "Lets hear the good first" He was more the type to hear the positives first anyway. "Few people got eyes on your little scuffle out there big man. Words going around the other rogues and you got left a message a bit ago, not sure when Ninja or the others will get it but . . . . It sounds like the rest of the big names in the collective want a meeting. At Nowhere tomorrow night." Alex bit his lip in thought at the news. the reason was obvious enough. Still, meetings didn't happen in the Collective down here unless it was urgent. "They want to work out what's gonna happen with a Templar down here." There was a nervous laugh on the other end. Dean was holding back his usual level of jokes, which meant the bad news was probably gonna suck real hard. "Nobody wants a Crusade happening anytime this decade if they can help it. ready for the bad news?" Alex took a deep breath. "What's the damage?" "Someone ratted to the Horde." Alex let out his breath in frustration. "God damn it." Anyone going topside would have to go through the Halcyon Horde to get the needed credits and bribes for the safest routes topside. if they already knew ahead of time, this could get difficult.

Dean hung up after that, stating he was gonna snoop around some more. Alex in the meantime needed to distract himself, An pan fried "seafood" was the best kind of distraction. He did end up taking some seasoning and veggies from the pantry. cant go wring with some lemon juice either. it was starting to smell great, and a quick taste test proved that it was crab in flavor and very delicious. As the cooking started to wrap up, Alex popped on his helmets music and cranked it. upside to having durable as hell physiology? No hearing damage or ringing from blasting his music too loud.

The short, weasel shaped man finally came to a halt far outside the Stoneworks, shaking and out of breath. He rubbed his backside where his white and red, heart-pattern boxers were showing and shakily pulled a crumpled pack of cigarettes out of a vest pocket. The wolves had stopped chasing him a while back, but he'd felt compelled to continue running until it was physically impossible to continue.

"Goddamn wolves," he whined, bringing a deformed cigarette to his lips and flicking the flint on his lighter. A slender, black gloved finger gently pressed the flame out, and the acrid stench of burnt leather filled his nostrils instead of the sharp aroma of tobacco. He flinched, looking up suddenly into the silhouette of a person he had neither heard, nor sensed approach.

"No open flames," she commanded, in a mechanical monotone. The sharp hiss of a mechanism in her backpack releasing a short burst of pressurized gas punctuated her words. "What did you learn?"

A terrified squeak was all he could manage to utter in reply. Burgundy eyes narrowed down at him with palpable disgust, near luminous from the inside the rough fabric of her hood. She exhaled a note of exasperation into the filtered mask covering the lower half of her face and turned away from him to survey the vast emptiness of the town outskirts. He gasped for breath as though an enormous weight had just been lifted from his chest and hurriedly mopped the cold sweat from his brow with his sleeve.

"W-w-wha-what are-"

"My presence is unofficial... for now," she informed, to which the weasel seemed immediately relieved.

He took a breath, and then began to vomit out the morning's events in while she approached a scar in the landscape. They'd ended up near the site of the morning's battle, as the intel she'd intercepted reported at least. The weasel followed close behind, chattering ceaselessly about ravens and "shinies." Occasionally he'd take a breath, and the quiet whirr of the compressor in her pack would break the silence.

The woman's composite-toed boots crunched with intentional heaviness through the detritus as she knelt down to pluck a rock from the lip of the scar and examine it closely. It was rough and dusty on one side, like a piece of rubble should be, though the side facing the interior of the scar had been cut to a near polished finish. She wiped the dust from gloves onto her black and navy colored fatigues and walked briskly to what she guessed was the scar's origin point. The weasel followed behind, describing in excruciating detail how the wolves had separated the fabric of his trousers from his ass while she grasped at something intangible in the air.

"... And then I ended up here," he finally finished, watching the woman rub the air slowly between her gloved fingers as though she were sampling a soft fabric. The weasel fidgeted nervously in the silence as she carefully scraped some brackish salt-water and... webbing(?) into a glass vials and then moved to closely examine a shard of metal. "U-um," he stammered, when the silence was no longer bearable. The worn, half-melted ends of her half-cloak fluttered for a moment, driving him to swallow the rest of his words. Suddenly, she strode off with a purpose, and he jogged to keep up with her. Something in the distance had caught her eye, and he was just glad it wasn't him.

After a while they arrived in an area where the ground had been stained by some kind of sticky residue which carried a strong saccharine scent of... sour apple? She knelt down and picked up the smashed remains of what was probably a helmet, staring quietly into the remaining eye of its mask for what felt like ages. She flicked a stone at him, which he nearly dropped when it proved hot against his skin.

"That should satisfy the Corvids. I doubt they give us any real information but see what they know anyway," she commanded, rising to her feet with the mask shard.

"A fire crystal?!" He exclaimed with a note of incredulity. "I'm to just give this to a bunch of birds?! Do you know how much these cost?!" He spat, pointing the glowing crystal at her accusingly. The weasel's anger evaporated when she turned her burgundy gaze on him. He recoiled away from her with an intimidated yelp and began shuffling back towards the Stoneworks.

"After you're done, tell our 'friends' in the Halcyon Horde that the Templar are in Undercity. That should keep them out of our way for a while."

"OPH-" Ako's face was trapped between Zolya's bosom. She squirmed and flailed to no avail, until the older woman let her go, and left her behind with a burning, beet red face. She pouted at Zolya as she cupped her own cheeks, her brown eyes wide and large and glaring. Like an angry squirrel.

Temujin scoffed as Zolya continued to tease Ako. ”Maybe she can rebuild me with an actual purple wand. Then I'll show you what you're missing out on," the cyber ninja replied, deadpan, his faceless eye blinking with every word. ”I'll buy you dinner first. Obviously."

Ako rubbed the back of her head. She sighed, "If only I know how to tinker with your brain chemistry…" The mechanic began to take apart Temujin while Zolya conversed with the Templar. Much of his armour was rived beyond repair, but at least the metal plates would be good for recycling. The mechanic reached deep into her kit, extracting spare tubes of artificial muscle fibers…

Ako's nose twitched. Her eyes lit up as she looked over her shoulder. "Is Aegis cooking?" She closed her eyes and inhaled. "Mmm… I can smell that cooking wine…"

”I can't," Temujin replied. ”The only thing I can taste is my foes' misery." Ako gave him a side-eyed look.

”It's pretty good," Temujin assured her. Ako shook her head. "Well, we're not gonna waste good food on unfeeling tongues. But don't worry." The mechanic pulled out a jar of gloppy brown sludge and shook it. "I brought your favourite! A whole thing of unsalted peanut butter!"

Temujin's light faded from his eyes. ”I hate you."

The cyber ninja's attention flicked over to Yue. It seemed like they'd have to be civil with this crusader for a while. ”Hmph. Templar, why did you come down here anyway? We've taken care of our own well enough without your corrupt backsides around."

With Alex complying to Raudd's urgent request and returning to the kitchen to deal with preparing whatever monstrosity he had brought back with him the disposition of the templar seemed to be calming down, the layers of barriers coming down must also have contributed to it. Though she didn't seem to be calming down completely, but rather than an agitated state it looked more like she was experiencing a mix of worry and fear, perhaps she was really worried about the injuries she might have sustained. "Right, I'll go get the doctor, hopefully she has time right away." Zolya said as she got up from besides Yue. "Maybe I'll take you up on that offer one day, though you'll have to serve me something better than nut butter." She teased Temujin as she walked out of the door.

"Speaking of the doctor, I'm pretty sure Aegis is using the white muscat the doctor made. So if you like it she probably still has a few bottles for sale from the last batch." Raudd said to Ako before taking a sip of his tea. "Oi Temujin, let's leave the organisation out of this. She got dropped through a plate gap while battling some teleporting murderer, she isn't here on a mission to meddle with the undercity. Besides they haven't given a damn about the undercity before why would they suddenly start caring?" He retorted to Temujin's rather abrasive question.

In the meantime Zolya had reached the address of the doctor. She entered through the door of the clinic side to luckily find an empty waiting room. "Dr. Mahmud are you here?" She called through the clinic. Followed by the sound of some rummaging in the backroom and a lithe black woman with long wavy black hair appeared from around the corner in a labcoat, mask and gloves splattered with a mixture of dark red and yellowish dots. "Oh sorry, I didn't know you were helping a patient." The doctor gave Zolya a confused look before looking down at her clothing and laughing. "Oh, non non mon cherre, I was marinating meat for a barbecue tonight. But w'at brings you to my clinic? You're not 'urt I'd 'ope?" She asked with a light french accent.

"Alas I'm not in need of a, physical examination. There's a person at my house that has fallen from the plates all the way down to here, I want you to give her a once over as we're worried she might have an concussion or something." The eyes of the doctor bulged widely as Zolya explained the situation. "She fell from up t'ere and only might 'ave a concussion? She's lucky to be alive, I will come right away..." She then looked at her gloves before adding on. "After I've gotten a change of clothes."
