Dr. Evande Sterling
Image

Position in Sector: Staff Doctor
Sector: American

Name: Evande Gemma Sterling
Gender: Female
Nickname(s)/Alias(es): Doc Sterling, Miss Pink, And Eva.
Age: Twenty-Five

Appearance: Standing with her above average height, Evande is a woman who is not at all taller than most men, but she tall enough that her height will leave some other females stunned. Due to the fact that she happens to be taller than most of the other women her age, Evande has a tendency to walk around with a bit of a slouch going on in order to try and downplay how tall she is for the fact that it tends to make her rather conscious of herself. Still, when standing up straight, as she should, Evande can come off as a bit of an intimidating woman due to this, though she doesn’t mean for it. Given her height, Evande weighs in at a rather average weight, though she looks . . . a bit thinner than she really is.

Build wise, Evande is rather irked about this, but she takes after her American blood and thanks to this, she possesses a well-built body. Her figure is obvious; Evande possesses a thin waist that is very much a different measurement than her hips.

Also, Evande has rather fair skin, it’s clear and rather soft, and it looks healthy. At the same time, Evande possesses scars on her body, just from things that look like the normal childhood scrapes and falls, those sorts of things, luckily her face happens to be free of any scars for the most part—though she does possess a single mark on her forehead, an indent which is the lasting result of a bad case of chicken pox she had as a child. Her face is soft and delicate, her features are subtle and simple, her eyes are caught between being almond shaped and round due to her mixed bloodline. But, her features are partly obscured by her hair, it’s long, thick and an unusual shade of pink. It falls to her hips, and for the most part, she keeps it bluntly cut at the ends. At the same time, Evande keeps bangs, which fall into her eyes and to the middle of her face. There are also sections of her hair that fall to her chin, and frame her face.

Evande’s eyes are an ordinary blue, really nothing seemingly special about them, the color is very much normal after all. Yet still, when she smiles, they do seem to light up and have a glint to them unlike any other.

As far as expressions are concerned, Evande tends to keep this goofy smile on her face a lot of the time, and honestly tends to look cheery and sweet nearly at all times. However, it isn’t out of the question to find her pouting on occasion if things don’t quite go how she’s expecting.

On one more note about Evande’s appearance, it’s pretty common to find her wearing a pair of red plastic glasses around.

Preferred Clothing: Despite her being in a suit in her picture, Evande is actually very much a causal dresser, she doesn’t care for formalities despite being a doctor, and really she prefers wearing plain old shirts, shorts, jeans and all that.

Height: 5 ft 6 ins (168 cm)
Weight: 137 lbs (62 kg)
Hair Color: Rose Pink
Eye Color: Light Blue

Notable Features: Pink hair, somewhat tall stature, her glasses, and the near constant smile on her face.

Personality: Highly spirited, rather blunt, she likes playing simple pranks on people she cares about from time to time, and she will sometimes do this to get them out of their doldrums or to release tension in a situation. Evande isn’t past making herself look like a fool in order to get someone to crack a smile, to soothe a crying child, or to just dissolve a edgy situation; this involves her maybe tripping, falling in a comedic manner and possibly acting like she’s stupid. She considers herself a people person, likable and fairly charming.

Capable of making friends fast, she is able to bond with others rather easy, getting attached at the drop of a hat. Once she’s bonded with a person, she’s liable to latch onto them at random, give them hugs and at times, tease them.

She does have some drawbacks to her personality though, she can be a little domineering. Evande doesn’t mean to be this way; but she can get irritated if someone can’t come to a decision quickly enough, and if this happens she’ll take control of a situation herself and make the choices if she sees fit. She always makes the hardest efforts in whatever she tries, and no matter how many times she fails, she has a will strong enough to continue trying until she succeeds. Eva is a woman adamant in never giving up. One to believe she can accomplish most anything, Eva seems rather bull-headed to most, yet very confident in herself.

At times, if things don’t go her way, she’ll pout. Evande is a good woman with a strong sense of what is right and what is wrong; she is sensitive, bubbly and easily able to be moved to tears. Despite being a doctor for the Titan program, Evande’s sense of morality seems to have remained intact, she actually doesn’t favor or support what’s being done the world over with innocent people, but still, she works with it anyway. . . . If she’s questioned about that, well, her answer tends to be an interesting one at least. She claims that her reasons for remaining with something her sense of morals doesn’t support is that she knows she couldn’t ever do a thing to actually stop the Titan program.

Her heart is with the people who have been made to undergo the experiments to become a Titan, and even if she knows she can’t make it stop, she wants to do what she can for those individuals, because they aren’t experiments or lab subjects, they are people. . . . Evande doesn’t want them to forget that, so as she serves as a doctor, she does her best to serve as a reminder to the American Titans that they are all still human, and that they are important people, no matter what the hell others tell them. And though she doesn’t openly voice it, Evande holds herself in opposition to Dr. Blonde in mentality in regards to the Titans. Though she should probably fear the man, she doesn’t.

The truth is that Evande knows of her own worth to the Titan program, despite her weirdness and not seeming it, the woman is a certifiable genius, she is an expert at working with people in Titan programs, her knowledge about dealing with anything that might go wrong with them is second to none, and she knows that no one could replace her.

Oddities: She’s a sleepwalker, and a talker too. . . . Don’t ask about what’s been said by her in her sleep, those are not appropriate things to repeat.

In all honesty, she has a tendency to drift off into la-la land when talking to others, meaning she slips in and out of conversations.

Charm Points: Her smile, and her odd attitude.

Likes: Books, television, video games, sleeping, daydreaming, being lazy, peace, animals. . . .
Dislikes: Dr. Blonde, when people get hurt, having to think too much, excessive labor, burnt food. . . .
Hobbies: Reading, writing, playing video games, sleeping, watching television, and daydreaming.

Fears/Phobia(s):
Neilasparophobia – Aliens

Skills: Working with technology, health-related matters, talking with people, trained in physical combat, capable of speaking in other languages, and also she can cook.

Personal History: Evande is actually half-Japanese—her father had involvement with the Japanese Titan program, but uprooted himself to the United States for an unknown reason and met Evande’s mother there. The two married, and had Evande, however her life was not a peaceful one as both the girl’s parents seemingly vanished when she was rather young. Because her father had been involved with the Japanese Titan program, Evande was taken in by the US government after her parents vanishing, and she was raised in a laboratory setting to take up her father’s skills working with Titan technology and the subjects.

Of course, because of how she had to grow up, Evande grew to be a genius technician and doctor, making her capable of working with the Titans from the get go, however, unlike other people who were working in the program, Evande had not lost her morality and sense of humanity. Although her parents had disappeared from her life at a young age, she could still remember her father and mother, and the weight and guilt her father seemed to carry on his shoulders. Thinking back on it as she became an adult, Evande came to understand that weight probably stemmed from his work in the Japanese Titan program, and he probably never really uprooted from Japan legally—she surmised her father had fled the country when his consciousness could no longer bear what he was doing to other people. As for her parents disappearance, Evande also had a theory to that; her mom and dad had probably been murdered or assassinated by either the US government or the Japanese for her father’s abandonment of his research and duties.

Regardless of the truth, the fact that her father always seemed to carry a weight on his shoulders reminded Evande, who had been more or less conditioned to become involved in the US Titan program, that the Titans she was undoubtedly going to be working with her human still, no matter what they had been made to undergo, they were human. She could never let herself forget that, and she felt it was her duty to serve as a link for those people made to become something more than themselves. Whatever had happened to her parents, that was in the past, she could only live on and do what she felt was right there on in. . . . That was as simple as it got.

So, Evande was deployed to become the staff doctor for the American Titan Sector, working with the twelve zodiac members there. In her time there, Evande knew several of the Titan members who have come, gone, and been replaced. Every time someone was replaced, she knew well enough what that meant, and every time it did happen, Evande was guilty of crying some, she didn’t lose touch with her humanity, and because of that she remembered the value in the lives that were lost during that. Yet still, every time a new face would appear in the program, Evande would greet the newcomer warmly and do her best to be there for them as much as she could as a doctor and friend.

Before his death, Evande was friends with the Third Leo, and greatly respected him for his views on his humanity and how it was he treated the younger Titans. She tends to treat the boys who were attached to the Third Leo like younger siblings now, poking fun at them and hoping to keep their spirits up best she can. She also likes treating Aquarius like a younger sister, and adores her because she’s such a small girl. And in regards to Scorpio, well, Evande hopes to help her in any conceivable way she can. As far as the new Leo is also concerned, Evande intends on treating her with warmth and kindness as she does with the others as well. . . .

Theme Song: Tower ~ Luka Megurine
The tears pouring down from the darkening sky,
are dying the asphalt surface black,
as though I can peek deeply into its heart.

At night when I threw away everything,
I climbed up that radio tower.
What can I see underfoot?

I could see unchanging bundles of light
as they became hazy and misty.

Probably nobody will even notice
even if I were to disappear.
The colors of the lights are just too beautiful.

Because nobody is looking at me,
I could just do whatever I please,
right at a corner of this hollowly gentle town.

Because nobody has ever touched it,
they forgot what it was over there on your side,
but I know that you will shake it awake.

Although, since I won’t be able to change myself,
I won’t be able to do anything.

Even if no one is listening,
I will sing only to you,
right from the top of this tall standing tower.

Probably nobody will even notice,
even if I were to disappear.
The colors of the lights are just too beautiful.

Because nobody is looking at me,
I could just do whatever I please, right?
I want to remain here.

I will never forget it;
even if you were to disappear,
your voice will echo even now.

Even if no one is listening,
I will sing only to you. . . .

Right on top of this tall standing tower,
of this hollowly gentle town.

Mornings were always pretty . . . routine for her. Things were mostly predictable, or at least, that’s how things had come to feel in the last five years she’d been there. Nothing was permanent, and the faces you might well see one day, could very well vanish the next, only to be replaced with a new face that could easily befall the same fate. People within these walls were fleeting, lives were as nothing to those who were in control, if someone better came along, another person would lose themselves. Their life would be forcefully ended, and their time gone. Power was all that mattered to the higher ups here, the people themselves had no value, just what they could do. This was really what she had come to learn in the last five years of her life, the lesson wasn’t a pleasant one, but it was a vital one, one necessary to learn and accept if you wanted to maintain your sanity here. . . .

That wasn’t exactly and easy task. Keeping sane, and keeping your humanity when you knew that there were horrors going on right under your nose, but you had to accept that to make any sort of impact. Or, that was what she had to do—she knew that terrible things were always going on, but the only thing she herself could do was to try to act as an anchor for the Titan subjects, be a reminder of their humanity, and let them know that there were still people around who valued their existence as people and not as just weapons. . . . Just like my father.

This goal of hers, this reason, it was why she guilty of pulling many all-nighters and staying within the walls of the project facility for sometimes weeks on end . . . she wasn’t sure, and honestly she was beginning to lose track of the time, but she had a feeling she was going on her third straight week of staying there now. She was probably actually in the hospital more than she was actually at her own home. But, it was her choice to do this, to live as she did.

Again, she’d been up all night before, reading, theorizing and doing some of her own research on the Adrenalin Project. . . . Trying to understand more about it, how it worked and why it was things took the turn they did so long ago when the side effects of the nanobots were first uncovered. It was a curious thing, of course she understood the basics, but she wanted to figure out things she was kept from knowing in total. She’d been trained mainly to be a doctor, she was made to understand the workings of machines and nanotech to better be able to work with the project subjects, but just the basics of it, her main area of expertise lay in medicines and health. And, she’d keep at this until she could no longer do it. . . .

Stretching her body out, Evande Sterling looked at herself in the mirror in front of her, her pink hair still damp from the shower she’d taken not too long ago. There’d been a point that morning where she finally couldn’t keep at reading anymore, and she had to do something in order to shake herself back into reality, and a shower seemed like the best option. With a small sigh escaping from the woman’s lips, a set of glasses were slid onto her face, covering up her blue eyes. Just being quiet, she blankly stared at her reflection in the mirror before her. Not thinking much of anything about her appearance, the only things that were really crossing her mind had to do with her duties for the day, what it was she had to do as a doctor.

After another moment of silence, she stood away from the mirror before she spoke, “I think it’s time to head back to the hospital . . . if I’m right, Blonde’s here now and there’s no telling what shenanigans he’s gotten up to with the Titans. . . .” the pink-haired woman adjusted her glasses a bit before grabbing her damp towel, threw it over her shoulder and headed out of the door from the woman’s showers. Oh, Evande had been around long enough to know the sadistic tendencies that Dr. Blonde got up to in order to keep the Titans under his control and all that. . . . And knowing well enough that, she knew that there might already be injuries to treat.

Without making much of a noise, the woman stepped out into the hallway, the door shutting behind her. She was more than ready to head on back to her station for the day when her eyes happened across the newest face to join the American Titans; Jacqueline Labelle, the Fourth Leo. The teenager who replaced the Third Leo without warning so soon ago. . . . She was simply sitting there in the hallway, alone, looking completely out of it. Of course, that was to be expected given her current circumstances. . . . Evande though, she had a feeling that there was a lot more going on in that girl’s head than just confusion and denial about where she now was and what her fate had in store for her. Honestly, she didn’t look like she wanted to be disturbed, but she was sitting in an awkward place really, right across from the showers more or less. . . . I’m not going to make her move since she is free to sit there if she wants, but I think I’ll still say hello to the girl. . . .

Jacqli of course was still minding herself, trying to repair the crack that had formed in her mask after she’d been shown a semblance of pity before, that single instant had been enough to shake her up to the point that she didn’t know how to proceed now. She was still just trying to keep herself from crying, from utterly losing it to her delusions. Why had she been shown anything, she didn’t want that. All she wanted was to be left alone to herself, she was just a disappointment waiting to happen. . . . The last thing she felt like coping with then was another person, so when a cheery woman’s voice penetrated the air and pulled her from her own world, Jacqli couldn’t help but draw her crystal-eyes upward to see whom had said, “Hello~” to her.

A sigh came from the girl’s throat as she forced a vacant expression to form over her face and she replied with a solemn, “Hello Dr. Sterling.”

Evande smiled down at the rather forlorn-looking girl, offering up her most sincere and kindly grin to her. Jacqueline Labelle . . . she was sixteen years old, and still very, very new to the Titan program. She’d only been inducted into . . . all of this a while ago; just slunk right on into everything in a rather quiet manner. “Now, Jacqueline, what are you doing sitting in front of the showers? Hmm?” she asked her, voice bubbly and full of cheer.

The cheer in the woman’s voice was almost enough to make Jacqli cringe—she didn’t want or need to hear that. She didn’t want to hear that; hell, she didn’t even want to be dealing with another person right now, all she desired was quiet, silence, aloneness. . . . Jacqli desired isolation from everyone right now, was that so wrong? If she had to put up with company, or people being around her, couldn’t they just mind their own selves rather than bother with her? Wouldn’t that be so much easier for them, just worrying about themselves? She wasn’t worth the worry, the effort, she was just . . . here, that’s all, she was just here, nothing else. That was it. Just a replacement, a poor excuse for a replacement that shouldn’t have even needed to be brought here. she thought, swallowing before attempting to speak to the doctor. “I’m just . . . sitting here Dr. Sterling, that’s all.” Jacqli’s voice was hollow, and as empty as the forced expression that overtook her young face.

Hearing the tone that her voice carried caused the smile on Evande’s face to falter. She’s . . . a broken bird-type, isn’t she? Just like most everyone here in this building. Can’t say I’m surprised; even if I don’t know about her history from before she was brought here, all I have to do is look at her arms and legs to know she’s seen Hell before all of this . . . and that Hell is all she’s going to be seeing from here on in. The pink-haired woman found herself sighing, placing a hand upon her hip as she pushed her glasses up her face. The woman opened her blue eyes again and glanced back down to the crystal-eyed girl, “You sure that’s really it Miss Labelle? You’re just . . . sitting in front of the showers because you feel like it? When there’s about a bajillion other places in here you could sit just because you felt like it?”

So . . . the good doctor was going to press at her, wonderful, just wonderful. Jacqli didn’t need this now; not when Taurus’ little display of pity earlier had already cracked her mask. Anything more could well pull it apart, to the point that she couldn’t fix it for a while; then everyone would be exposed to an even more pathetic side of her! What could she do to shake Evande from her, to get the doctor to just leave her alone? What could she do to get everyone to do just that? Taking in a deep breath Jacqli drew her eyes away from the pink-headed woman before her, and glanced to the side. Talking to people was easier when you didn’t look at them. “Is there a rule about sitting here or something ma’am?” she asked.

Crossing her arms, Evande knelt down before the girl, “No, no there isn’t a rule; I just found it odd that a young lady such as yourself would be wasting your time sitting in front of the showers of all places.”

Surprisingly, Jacqli could not hold back the fact that an expression of anger was beginning to form over her face at what the doctor had said, ‘wasting time.’ Trapped in this delusion, I have no time of my own, all of it belongs to the people here. I have no time to waste, I am of no use to anyone, the same can well be said for my time. she thought before speaking, “It isn’t as if there is much to do here Dr. Sterling, and it unless I’m given an order, I don’t think any time I spend doing anything matters.”

So, she’s adopted that mindset, has she . . . ? Evande sighed, Not that I should be surprised, she’s seen the worst of the world and it has to be hard for one so young to go on ahead into the future thinking anything might be better when life’s been like this. It’s people like her that keep me here . . . even if I can’t change the circumstances around her, I can at least remind her that she is a human being. A warm smile formed over her face, “Well sweetie . . . I’m sorry for bothering you, whatever you think of your time now, that’s up to you.” With a grunt, Evande stood up to her feet, and turned to the right, ready to head back to the hospital to assume her doctorly duties. Before this, the bespectacled woman looked back to the Fourth Leo and spoke a few more words, “I can’t tell you why it is that you’re here, or how long you’re going to last in these walls, but, I can say one thing from my time here Miss Labelle, you should do your best to make the most of the time you do have, even if it’s uncertain. Make friends with the other Titans, and accept any kindness they might show to you . . . even if you don’t think you deserve it.”

Jacqli stopped her breathing when she heard what the doctor had to say, and kept her eyes drawn away from the woman as she walked away. Damn it, I didn’t need to hear. . . . she thought, biting down on the inside of her cheek as she drew a hand up and over her eyes. She’d gotten the last thing she needed then from Evande; a show of emotion. Paul’s few words had been a catalyst for a potential breakdown, but Evande’s last bit was enough to cause a landslide if she didn’t get a hold on herself ASAP. I don’t belong here, I know I don’t. Kindness, a show of sympathy, pity, I don’t deserve any of that! I’m here to replace someone who shouldn’t have been replaced, someone who should still be here. A person who left an incredible legacy behind. . . . A tear ran down the girl’s face without her realizing it, slipping passed her hand and down her cheek. Her chest felt heavy . . . all of her felt that way; her body felt weighted down.“I’m nothing more than a part of this insane delusion, a part of it that doesn’t belong.” She mumbled to herself.
