I awoke in my comfy bed early Sunday morning. Somehow I managed to pull myself out of bed and onto my feet. My legs were stiff and my ankles cracked with every step I took. I looked in my wood carved mirror and combed through my tangled hair. I through on a plain blue t-shirt,skinny jeans, uggs, and a leather jacket. I walked down the hallway to my living room.
It was trashed! Blood splattered the tiled floors and wooden walls. Couches turned over and curtains pulled down. Cautiously, I walked towards the window. The streets were also just a messed up. I looked into the kitchen.
I saw a figure rummaging through our fridge. "Mom?" I asked. The figure turned around. Half her mouth faded away and blood covered her arms, legs, and most of her facial area. She started sprinting towards me so I ran upstairs to where my father had left some old guns in case of emergencies. I grabbed one, and as the "zombie" followed me I shot the gun.
The ricochet was very loud. But that didn't matter at this point. The point is, what's happening to this world?!

Mary woke to a beam of sunlight glaring through her window, directly into her eyes. "Blasted sun thinks that just because it provides warmth and light it doesn't have to show any common courtesy." Mary continued grumbling about the sun as she dragged herself out of bed and pulled on her jacket. She was already wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants as she had stayed up until four in the morning trying to finish a new game.

Still clearly tired, Mary eventually managed to work up the motivation to go downstairs to get breakfast. Upon entering the kitchen she heard a scratching on the window, and, as they all do, went to investigate. Moving the curtain aside Mary saw a man in a bloodstained postal uniform, who eating a small dog. "It is way to early for this." Mary said letting the curtain fall back and walking away. After a few steps though she realized what she saw. and her expression changed from one of tired annoyance to one of absolute seriousness. "Zombies."

I then remembered what the news man on the T.V. said. Scientists had accidentally released the "Mad Cow Disease". It apparently caused everyone who was infected by it to turn into some blood-thirsty cannibal. I didn't know what to do now. I have no idea where my family is and also what am I supposed to do alone?! I wasn't trained to fight!
Luckily, I knew how to fire a gun. I checked all the windows around the my small suddle house. The streets looked fairly clear except for a few walkers here and there. I grabbed some of my dad's smaller guns and packed them into a back easy enough to carry. I also packed a few bigger guns, a hand-knife and some clothes.
I headed to the outside trying to be as quiet as possible. I heard on the television to be cautious around the life-forms. Sounds attracts them.

(OOC: I might make guy character if no one else joins. But I'll wait a little bit)

"Alright, here's the situation. The town is filled with zombies, all of the... three? Yeah, all of the three people I know are probably dead and I am left as quite possibly the only living thing left. What have my years of experience taught me to do in a situation like this?" Mary paced around the living room gathering her thoughts. Finally the answer to her question was made clear as she looked over at the shotgun on the mantle with a smirk.

Minutes later Mary was walking out the back door armed with a double-barrel shotgun and carrying the extra ammo in her pocket. "Task one: follow the signs, arrows, anything, until you find an NPC, who will invariably have some new goal for you." With this plan in mind she carefully set out in the direction indicated by a nearby one-way sign.

I started heading down the street to where my good friend lives. "I really hope she's OK" I muttered under my breath. I finally came upon her baby blue house and opened the door. No one was home except for the sound of scratching at wood.
I slowly walked up the carpeted stairs trying not to make a sound. When I reached the top of the stairs I saw a zombie gnawing at something. I soon realized it was eating Lindsey! I covered my mouth trying not to make a sound. I didn't want to break down now, because if I did...I'd be dead. I slowly walked back down the stairs and left the house. I had to keep going, otherwise, I'll end up like Lindsey.

After following the trail of "signs" Mary eventually wound up in front of a light blue house. Giving a gleeful grin at the open door she stepped inside. In her mind it all made perfect sense. An oddly colored house that just happened to have the front door wide open just screamed scripted event. Checking to make sure there were no zombies close by that might deliver a cheap jump-scare, Mary slowly walked inside. After a few moments of looking around the room she mentally face-palmed at the realization that she had forgotten to pack any food. However, she was unable to dwell on that for very long as she saw a shadow descending the stairs, unable to see the figure casting it she prepared for a fight but remained calm. If it was a person and she shot them by accident there was no way she would get the good ending.

I worked my way towards the center of the town. It's probably FILLED with walkers down there. I thought to myself. But I had to move on anyways. ------- I shot a few walkers down in the main part of Silver Light. There weren't as many as I thought. I managed to climb to a rooftop of a building and lock the upstairs door so no walkers could enter.
I stood on the edge of the roof and looked around. "IS ANYONE OUT THERE!!!" I screamed as loud as my voice could go. I knew that if I got some type of response, I wasn't alone in this.

After dealing with the zombie that had been coming down the stairs Mary had set out once more in search of the next scripted event. This eventually led her towards the center of town, though by the time she reached it she was running out of shells for the shotgun. She was just about to head downtown to get more when she heard someone yelling. "IS ANYONE OUT THERE!!!" Mary smiled and turned towards the sound. If that wasn't a call to action she didn't know what was. Unfortunately the same shout that spelled "active goal" to Mary, meant "dinner's ready" to the zombies. "Oh, good. For a moment there I thought this was going to be easy." After that not entirely sarcastic comment Mary began running to the house.

Nobody replied to me. At least that's what I thought. I didn't spot any zombies coming towards the building. I guess that's a good sign. I looked around the barren town.
The wind blew trash around streets. I can't believe this is actually happening. But, everything happens for a reason. I shot some walkers the roamed the streets out of boredom.

Eventually Mary managed to find the building. There was a person on top, presumably the one who had been yelling. "I hope that that building is either really fortified, or you've got a way to get out of here fast because about half the former population of the town is behind me!" she called up to them. She then ran inside and locked the door.

"I hope that that building is either really fortified, or you've got a way to get out of here fast because about half the former population of the town is behind me!" I looked down at the person and ran into the downstairs to the main building. She saw that the female had already locked the door. "Finally! Someone else!" I thought to myself.
"What do you mean half the population is behind you?!"

"Half the former population." Mary said. "To put it bluntly they're dead now, or at least something fairly close to it. I'm not sure if it kills them or just makes them insane. I guess I could ask my dad since he's a virologist. Assuming of course he's still alive..." After a short pause Mary snapped her fingers as though something had just occurred to her. "Oh, but where are my manners, my name is Mary Pendleton and this shotgun's name is Cheryl. And you are?"

"I'm Arielle Pearson. Nice to meet you Mary." Pounding started on the store windows. "Oh god! They could get in! We have to board the doors and windows!" I started grabbing any wooden planks I could find. I knew it was dangerous, but I approached the window and started to put up the boards.

It occurred to Mary that they must have been some sort of hardware store, after all what other place would have all the things required for boarding up the doors and windows. Whatever, her wasn't about to question the game's logic. Mary began to help nail boards over the windows and doors, though not without the comment "Worst. Minigame. Ever." Turning to Arielle she said, "Careful, from what I know of viral-zombies, getting bit by one is a very bad idea. Not that getting bit is normally a good idea, it's just especially bad now."

"Don't worry. My younger brother used to play these games with my boyfriend all the time! One time they even made me play. It's almost like getting bitten is an automatic death." I remember the good times my younger brother Shane and my boyfriend Paul used to have. While boarding up the store I felt the tears swell in my eyes. I wiped them away as fast as I could. I need to focus on what I need to do to survive.

Mary had been about to respond when a hand burst through a gap between the boards. Dropping the board and nails she began to beat it back with the hammer screaming, "This is a banhammer and I am using it upon you, therefor you are banned!" The zombie seemed fairly unimpressed with Mary's attempt at wielding administrative power and continued doing what it was doing. "Cheryl assist me!" Cheryl the shotgun sat impassively on the floor were she had left it. It did not assist her. "Oh, right, forgot." Releasing the hammer, Mary ran over to the weapon and jammed the end between the boards and fired twice. The hand retracted as its owner was propelled backwards.

I help Mary and attempt to try to board up more of the windows. I got all the windows boarded up. But I forgot one thing...the door!!!! Zombies burst through the sharp glass. Luckily, they weren't fresh so they couldn't run. I grabbed one of my pistols and tried not to waste my bullets.
One of the walkers grabbed my leg and I tried to retract it back. "MARY!! HELP ME!!" I fell to the ground with a loud "clunk".

[Sorry for the long post...Just wanted to build suspense...]

I looked up into the sky. It had been such a beautiful morning, one that I would've enjoyed with my brother and parents, playing soccer or swimming laps up and down the pool, that's if...if they were...alive. But I tried to stay positive, I had no idea how this so-called "disease" was going to end, but I wanted to stay fierce so I could defeat those zombies once and for all. I smiled thinking of that family photograph in my bedroom, one where I was the center of attention, and my brother stood beside my left, my brothers friend, Tom and parents on my right. Oh, the good old days...
I was holding a spear in my strongest and capable hand, my left, and a dagger in my right. I had been trying to run away from my town and into a near-by one, maybe where some humans would be, ones from our kind. A bunch of zombies had started to form a group. They were strong and capable of destroying a single human. Although I had as much strength as them, they would probably spilt my bones in half. I raised my spear with force, located a target and finally threw my spear at one of the leaders. Her gruesome face fell straight onto the road, her brunette hair was blood-stained - not only from eating the humans but also from the spear wound.
I started running, the town was a few steps away, I bolted toward it. "Ahh!!" They gained on me and was about to tear my leg apart...I couldn't get them away from me. One made me trip. I knew it was the end. That's when I heard the call! Another human life-form! I finally got the urge of power to wrestle them off me and shoved the dagger straight into their heart.
I ran toward justice. I had no other way but to go through the door, there was no other entry. I had to remain calm. A bunch of zombies had already formed in the entrance. I threw a spear and hit one of them. "MARY!! HELP ME!!" I ran up the stairs...
"Shoot! Girl! Don't worry!" I called back to the girl, she was human! I threw a few of them aside on fell down the stairs colliding into the one behind it. This was a good time to run. I pushed past them, as each fell. I finally reached the door and shut it before any more had come inside. "Well...That was pleasant, wasn't it..." I smiled at the two girls inside the room.

Looking over to see her new ally in trouble, Mary did not hesitate. She dropped the now empty shotgun and picked up a chainsaw from a nearby display. Starting the thing without too much difficulty, which in of itself is somewhat astonishing, and began to slice at the zombie holding Arielle. Mary then turned just in time to see a boy dash through the mob and slam the door behind him. "Strange," she thought, "I could have sworn I locked that."

"Well...That was pleasant, wasn't it..." In response Mary shrugged, tossed the chainsaw aside, and extended a hand to the newcomer. "I suppose, though I was never one for 'defend the objective' games. The name's Mary, by the way."

"I suppose, though I was never one for 'defend the objective' games. The name's Mary, by the way."
I laughed at that, even though this was not a laughing matter, it was still quite funny. I shoke Mary's hand and smiled, "I'm Reece Raven. I'm the only human in my town, I had to escape to find some actual humans. I am sure glad I bumped into you two. It's be such a chaotic ride." I turned toward the other girl I ended up rescuing. "And you are...?" But before she could reply I already had a million question to ask so I keep going. "Why are these things around...and how exactly did they get this disease in the first place? And why don't we have it?" I pointed my finger at the both of them wanting some answers. Even if they weren't going to answer them, at least it was a good thing to keep up the human talk anyway, it's not like zombies are going to strike up a conversation right now, is it?

I was happy that this boy had come just in time. We could never have too many survivors! "And you are...?" Before I even answered
the boy apparently name Reece, started to ask questions. "Why are these things around...and how exactly did they get this disease in the first place? And why don't we have it?" "Honestly I don't know. I woke up this morning and there was some crazy dead person in my fridge!!" I walked around examining the store.
I wonder why this "Reece" just decided to barge into a crowd of zombies like that. I guess he was really that desperate to find survivors. I thought to myself.

Mary had no idea what Reece was laughing about, she had been completely serious. She didn't take offense, she just found it odd. To his questions however she had some sort of pseudo-answers. "Well these are clearly some sort of viral zombies, they're all here because they used to live here, though I suppose some of them could have wandered in from neighboring areas depending on how widespread the outbreak is. Speaking of people who used to live here, I think one of those one's at the door was my physics teacher..." Mary paused looking at the door before suddenly snapping back to the present. "He was kind of a jerk anyway. But more importantly the fact that we don't have it indicates one of these things are true: One; the virus is passed through exchange of bodily fluids, biting, scratching, that stuff. Two; We are immune. or Three, there are actually two strains of the virus, an airborne one that we're immune to, and a fluid one that we're not. Also, just a heads up, the government, if there still is one, will eventually get wise and probably firebomb the whole place, so if you guys had any quests you needed to accomplish while we're still here I suggest you make haste." After this rather long-winded speech, Mary sat back against the wall and awaited her companions' reactions.

I was quite interesed by what Mary had to say, she seemed to know a lot of knowledge, maybe a very dedicated student at school. I nodded at her reply and I smiled at my joke. Although, this other girl didn't seem to show how happy she was to know that I was ther third human alive here. "So, anyone got food. If we're staying in here, we need supplies, right? A torch would be perfect too. I can't see much in here..." I heard a bump on the door, it seemed to be slowly breaking, "Crud! Girls, grab a weapon, they're breaking down the door! Get ready to fight some more zombie butt!" I grabbed my spear from the floor and jabbed it at the crawling hands squirming themselves inside the new formed holes. I screamed before poking it into the hand, the fingers loosened and the hand dropped the the floor. By now the door had spilt in half! "What now?!"

"So, anyone got food. If we're staying in here, we need supplies, right? A torch would be perfect too. I can't see much in here..." Mary shrugged, she hadn't brought any food but she didn't know if Arielle did. Then her attention was drawn to the front door, which seemed to be on the verge of collapsing. "Crud! Girls, grab a weapon, they're breaking down the door! Get ready to fight some more zombie butt!" Mary pulled herself to her feet and ambled over towards the back of the store. "I'll be right back." she called over her shoulder. As she walked she scanned the shelves, she was now certain that this was a hardware store, looking for a weapon, the chainsaw was too heavy for her taste. No, no, no, needs to be plugged in, ooh look at you." This last comment was directed at a medium sized sledgehammer. Grabbing the sledgehammer of the shelf Mary ran back to the front of the store just in time to see several zombies pouring in through the front door and hear Reece yell "What now?!" With a bemused smile Mary commented "A protagonist's work is never done." before calling to the two. "There's an emergency exit in the back. It'll set off an alarm though so you might want to figure out were we're going before you open it."
