Description

Image

Full name: - Ardal Bainbridge
Alias/Nicknames: - "The Sadist"
Gender: - Male
Species/Race: – Vampire
Age: - 53

APPEARANCE
Height: - 6'3h
Weight: - 200 lbs
Build: - Ardal is tall, willowy, and toned. He is stocky for a vampire, but not overly muscled.
Eye Color: - Wine red
Hair Color: - Midnight black
Skin Shade/Color: - Pale alabaster color
Scars/Tattoos/Piercings: - Three piercings in his left ear.

Description: Ardal is youthful vampire that exudes power from his pores. He has an intimidating presence, and he takes pride in his looks. He has silky long hair because he believes it gives him a "dignified appearance," and he is very tall and stocky for a vampire of his age. His hands lack callouses, and betray him as someone who hasn't seen a lot of bloodshed. However, his eyes are the color of blood, and they tend to glow when he is serious or upset. (He is almost never serious, and he rarely gets upset) He insists on wearing armor that covers most of his stocky frame so if anyone gets any "funny ideas" he is prepared. He only had one person that he considered to be his kin, and he resembles that one person greatly. (the same man that convinced Armelle to live. Let's call him Jedediah)

Personality: Ardal is man with high ambitions, and a low status in the vampire world. He has an overinflated ego that makes him believe he is capable of anything, and he treats his interactions with people like a game of chess. He considers himself a king, and everyone else a pawn that can be controlled or sacrificed on a whim. Because of his arrogance he has issues with authority and he hates anyone with a higher status than him. Although when he is among his peers he is perfectly humble, and genteel. As a general rule, he is gracious and charming, but behind his smile something dark lingers. He knows if he plays at being subservient, and loyal to the Sons of the Night, no one will suspect how conniving he is. He doesn't hide his cruelty. He does unspeakable things when he plays judge, and executioner to the humans he hunts. He doesn't go after the scum who have committed atrocities against the law, oh no. He goes after good people. He charms his way into their lives, and then he leads them down a dark path.

His goal is to utterly destroy them.

Because he considers humans nothing but cattle for him to feed off of, their suffering means nothing to him. He calls it "playing with his food." His nasty disposition to hunt the people who are too weak to defend themselves against his charm, earned him the name "Sadist." In the act of hunting his prey, his true colors show. The rest of the time, he pretends to be loyal. And calm. And he takes initiative, so the Lords, and maybe even the Prince will notice he exists.

Acting trustworthy, and illustrating his potential are his most powerful weapons.

In the end all he wants is to Lord his superiority over everyone else.

History: Ardal came to be in the same way all new vampires come to be. Someone changed him, and he left behind a dreary normal existence without ever looking back. He embraced the night like it had always been in inherent part of him. He didn't care that he couldn't go out in the sun anymore. And the curse that kept him aligned with his new duty hardly phased him. Not because he was immune to all the sins of humanity, but because he already knew humans were flawed, and that they did horrible things to each other. He considered his new job as Guardian sacred, because it gave him the ability to rid the world of "Trash."

Ardal learned most of his ideals from his mentor, Jedediah. Jedediah was also the same man who convinced Armelle to stay alive. He taught Ardal everything about vampires, what they were, and what they could be. As far as vampires go, Ardal's mentor was not anything remarkable. He had no fancy titles. He hadn't accomplished anything miraculous. He was just old. Ancient really. Jedediah had lived through most of the history that most only read about in books. He was a scholar, and a tactician. And for some reason, Ardal heavily resembled him in appearance and demeanor. There were some differences. Jedediah, was content with his place in life, and he had no aspirations for the future beyond surviving. Ardal wanted to rule, and live above his station in life. They had different goals, but their attitudes were the same.

They were both cold, calculating, and manipulative.

And all they cared about was enriching vampire culture. And Recording vampire history.

But Ardal didn't just want to write the history books, he wanted to be a part of them as well.

He won't forgive anyone that gets in the way of that. Not his mentor-Jedediah.

And not Armelle.

So begins...

"Did you hear? The Prince, and Lord Ulfag are convening in the throne room!!"

"Really? That's interesting, it's been years since the Prince has visited the Dreadhall, something interesting must be afoot."

Servants talked together in hushed whispers, crowding quietly together in their quarters. They weren't on the same level as the Dread Knights so although they could wander freely through most of castle, it was considered a breach of etiquette to wander into some areas of the Bastion without good reason. Castle Von Haren may be a Safe Haven, but there were certain parts of this dark abode that were solely for the Lord of the Dreadhalls, and his confidantes. Only the very brave or the very stupid dared to intrude. Ardal Bainbridge, a resident of the Castle sat reclining on a chair away from the other servants, a large tome in hand. He was rarely seen without some form of literature nearby, and he was thoroughly engrossed in his book when his keen hearing picked up the whispers about the Prince, and the Lord of Von Haren.

"That's interesting." He muttered, closing the book with a small click.

Ardal had been living in the shadows for years now, watching and analyzing the patriarchy. His skin had taken on a pale alabaster hue, as he drifted further and further from the light, and became acclimated to the life of a vampire. He had a broad stocky frame, suited to hard manual labor, although he hadn't done an honest day's work in ages. And he stood a full head taller than most vampires. Because of this, he had an intimidating presence, and his wine red eyes were penetrating, as he studied the small assembly of servants. They were beneath him, but they could have valuable information. A charming smile graces his features, as he stands up to mingle with them, setting his book aside. "What's this about the Prince being here?" He drawls, silently measuring their expressions.

They were more than happy to gossip, and divulge what little they knew. Everyone was aware of what the Prince wanted to do. He had plans to dominate, and conquer, and the servants believed Lord Von Haren was about to become very active in the Prince's expedition. Something large was brewing. Something Ardal would love to see from the sidelines. Tapping his chin thoughtfully, Ardal smiled, "I see...." He murmured, his eyes going cold for a second, before returning to their signature red. "Perhaps you lot could do me a favor, and if you happen to see either the Prince, or Milord in the Castle, discreetly find out what's going on. I'm dying to know." He smirked, putting his hand over his unbeating heart dramatically.

It was a terrible pun, but it prompted a few smiles.

For good measure, Ardal withdrew a coinpurse from the sash around his waist. "Here's some coins for your trouble."

For all intents and purposes, he was just a curious vampire, who wanted to know what was happening. That's all the servants would think. (All the servants who lacked wit anyways.) And the especially loyal vassals weren't present, so he wouldn't have to bother convincing them. The majority of the people in the room would believe him because he was "honorable." That was the image had spent cultivating the past few years. The only thing that comes to mind when Ardal's name is mentioned is: He is an insatiably curious vampire who is loyal to the Son's of the Night.

Ardal is proud of his reputation, because it is in fact, the sweetest kind of deception.

(I didn't know if I was just supposed to jump in so I did a thing o.o)

Just as the coins are stored away, Fenrik Ehrensvärd, the young woman who's earned the disparaging title of She-Bear among some, enters the room. Unfortunately for them, she is assigned to be the overseer as long as she's stationed at the Bastion. "Stop milling about and get to work!" she commands with a grimace, "Lord Von Haren is holding a feast in the King of the Night's honour tonight and I expect the best from all of you. Understood?" The servants all bob their heads obediently, although a few in the back share looks. A woman in command was quite rare in these times, at least among the humans, so even the servants disrespected her behind her back. Just as she nods firmly and is about to turn to leave, she notices the vampire standing in a dark corner of the servant's quarters and narrows her eyes. She notices the face as she studies him a little closer. She's never trusted this one. He was always curious. Too curious for her tastes.

"What're you doing here, Guardian?" she asks suspiciously, eyeing the man with her cold grey stare. "Last I heard we didn't have any vampiric servants."

Ardal's smile didn't fade when the servant's were dismissed.

Nor did he flinch when he was addressed by the overseer. She was a giant bear of a woman that rivaled him in size. She had the walk of a warrior, And her tone was hard and cold. "Alas, I'm not a servant, but I like the atmosphere here..." He shrugged, unphased by her measuring glare. "It's perfect for reading." Dragging his fingers over the cover of the historical tome on the table, he held it up for her to see. He didn't elaborate any further, for fear of sounding defensive. This wasn't an average woman, or an average vampire. He had to tread carefully around her. His posture was perfectly relaxed, and his smile was lazy as he spoke again. "And being here, allowed me to meet the infamous Ehrensvard." He drawled, inclining his head respectfully at her. "Just as this castle has no vampire servants, I thought the army had no female commanders..."

Turning the conversation around, so it was focused on her, he smirked a little. "You peaked my curiosity...." He was making it seem like she was the sole reason for him being in the servant's quarters. It was borderline flirting, but Ardal couldn't help himself. She looked like the type of woman that detested being teased. And had no time for anything outside of her duties. Those are the people he enjoys bothering the most. Because he found it rather amusing when he got under their skin. (and it would distract her from interrogating him) "But seeing as your so tense I won't dawdle here. I imagine you have things to do." He sighed morosely, and slipped the tome under his arm, carrying it towards the exit.

He had things to do too.

Fenrik Erhensvärd simply grunts at the teasing, though she catches his arm as he leaves, looking into his eyes with the same dangerous stare. "You would do well to remember whose domain you currently dwell in, blood-sucker." She says, curtly. She leaves it at that as she releases his arm. The grip would've caused bruising had the man had any blood left.

(Sorry, I couldn't think of anything to say >.<)

Edvard marched into the room searching for the Fenrik. He caught the end of her statement, mostly clinging to the words, Blood Sucker. "Indeed, you will do as the lady says." Though he had no intention of undermining his second in command, he always referred to her as a lady, even though she had many times expressed her dislike of doing such. "Now do as you're told, and remove yourself from the room." Edvard's tone was not one of question, and he wasn't too pleased having walked into what had seemed to be a friendly type of conversation. He'd rather it end. "Immediately." He added. He moved to stand in front of Fenrik, putting himself between the vampire of his vision of the woman. He had heart myth of the hypnotic methods to which they lure women, and he was in no hurry to have to train someone to take her place.

Ardal snorted at the warning, shaking his head at the human warrior. "And you would do well to remember this isn't the battlefield, and I am not your enemy." His tone was silky, as she released him, belying how little he cared for her threats. When yet another human arrived demanding he leave, a morose sigh left his lips. "What exactly does it look like I'm doing?...." Eyeing the man, who had slid defensively in front of the tall swordswoman, his lips pursed in distaste. "There's no need for all of that. If I wanted to do something to her, I would have done it long before you got here. " He muttered, rolling his eyes as he left the servant's quarters. He didn't like being touched. He also didn't like being reminded he was a guest, in this illustrious settlement. Unbidden, her words circled around in his thoughts like a carousel. "You would do well to remember whose domain you currently dwell in, blood-sucker." Who could forget who the head of the castle was? The bloody place was titled Castle Von Haren. Slipping his tome into the sash, his armor clinked dismally in the silence as he trudged down the hallway.

He considered humans dispensable, and it took an iron will not to go back and put the two warriors in their place.

Moving quickly through the hallways, he navigated his way to the edge of the keep, and where his room was. In one of the many halls, he had his own special area where could be alone. Ardal needed his solitude away from the servants, and the Dread Knights, and the other vampiric residents. Ducking quietly into his room, he shut the door behind him, and began digging through his things to find a parchment and paper.

He had a running correspondence with Armelle Betrys. His one contact in the Synagogue of Solitude.

They shared the same mentor, and had been exchanging letters since his death.

He was trying very hard to gain her trust because he really wanted her on his side in the coming days.

Erhensvärd watches the vampire go, and then turns her cold stare upon her Captain. "Thank you for your assistance, sir, but it was entirely unneeded. And I'm not a little girl, so I don't need you stepping in front of me in every confrontation. And I am not a bleeding blue-blooded Lady, either. I am a warrior of the Northlands." she says, her tone biting. She grimaces deeper and removes the hand she had been gripping her longsword with before stalking back out of the servant's quarters without another word.

(I'm having trouble coming up with responses to this situation >.>)
