Description

ImageVampire One
Amelia Finch

"Just Amelia, if you please... no nicknames..."

Age
80

Appearance
Often times Amelia looks as if she just rolled out of bed, or didn't bother to look in the mirror before joining society. Her hair is halfheartedly put up (often barely up in her band at all) and hangs in wild clumps. She always is at various states of dishevelment, forgetting to wear shoes or shirts or even pants. She stares off into space with a dreamy, far-off expression in her water-blue eyes. Most times she looks as if she is inhabiting her own imagination world.

Certainly, she isn't the most imposing figure. She barely stands at 5"6, with the build of an orphan waif. Even the clothes she wears, usually just black robes wrapped around herself, stark against her porcelain skin, hangs off her bony frame like curtains on a rod. Her regal cheekbones and long neck, combined with her faraway expression, casts a mysterious pall over her. With her white skin and long blond hair, she can seem eerie, ethereal.

Occasionally, a smile spits her face, breaking like a wave on the shore. The littlest things can spark it: butterflies, a flower in bloom, a hug. In these times she seems to light up, bright as all the stars in the sky, and an inner her breaks through. Vibrant, glowing... alive.

A huge scar mottles the complexion on her back.

PersonalityImage
Amelia is a child at heart, with all the innocence that accompanies it. However, watching the atrocities of the Sun War has wracked her with grief, overcome her with guilt. From time to time, the exhaustion returns; you can see the weariness flit across her face. However, residing in this secluded paradise has renewed her spirits. Her old sneakiness and playfulness is beginning to return, as well as reverting somewhat to the flirt she once was. She soothes herself by diving into her art and her gardening.

The vampire's personality, when not totally loopy, is gentle and sweet. Soft spoken, Amelia has trouble really commanding authority when things out of hand-- which tends to get her in trouble. She often comes off as a pushover. She has a noticeable stutter that gives her trouble, slowly forming each word with much consideration.

Still, she wears her heart on her sleeve. She is completely truthful to the point of brutally honest. She is an optimist with perhaps a sprinkle of naivete. She despises violence. Sometimes the pain bottled up within her bleeds through. She isn't known for self-control, after all; she's so absentminded. But she loves humans. Oh, she fiercely loves humans-- after all, she once was one. She blames vamps and humans equally for what has befallen them, and delights in the peace that has now come.

Likes
• Cooking. While she can take no pleasure in the actual food, she allows herself to hold onto this one familiar comfort from her human life.
• Games and riddles. She loves testing her wits and relaxing through games. She's a playful person.
• Art. Amelia is a master with paints. Colorful masterpieces spring from her brush the moment it touches the canvas.
• Snuggly pajamas.
• Chick flicks.
• The sun. She never gets to really see it now that she's dead; she's forgotten what it's like to be warm. Actually, it really bothers her that she can't go out in it anymore, so this is a love-hate relationship. Her parents would always tell her to go play in the outdoors rather than staying cooped up inside with her paints, and now she regrets all the times she scoffed at them.
• Animals and nature. She adores bunnies, butterflies, trees, deer, rivers, gardening, and long strolls in the forest.
• Touching. She's a very touch-oriented person. The feel of human (or vampire) touch calms and reassures her. She loves cuddling, hugging, holding hands, kissing. She's comfortable with her body and doesn't mind other people laying hands on it.

Dislikes
• Work, chores. Neat freaks. Calm down and relax.
• The dark. She's had enough of the intrigue of the night. She misses the daylight.
• People with tans. She can't get one. It's not fair!
• Prejudice.
• Blood. Her addiction to it repulses her.
• Unneeded violence.

History
Amelia fought and killed in the Sun War, like everyone did. She despised it. Once the truce came, she rejoiced in the peace that the vampires and humans had come to and fully embraced the laws that were made regarding vampires, including human registry (turning a blind eye, perhaps intentionally, to the more negative aspects of the trade). She eagerly signed up for a pact with a human... but believe it or not, her intention was not for blood, but just to build tolerance.

She saw all the blood she ever wanted to see in the Sun War. She's had enough for a lifetime. After it ended, she swore she would never drink blood again. Frustratingly enough, she has not been altogether successful in this (a vamp's gotta eat). But she presses on in the endeavor. She believes that humans and vampires cannot truly be at peace until vamps stop feeding off the humans like parasites. However, her bloodlust is as strong as any vamp's, and the longer she goes without the precious elixir, the more hungry she gets...

She gained the scar on her back when a human thrust her into the sun during battle.

So begins...

While the rest of the household anticipated the new guests, Amelia Finch was having withdrawals.

It tore through her body. It was a galaxy of supernova stars exploding across her skin. Crawling, crawling, heaving up through her skin from the inside out. Worse than garlic, worse than holy water, worse than any pain imaginable. It was worse than a wooden stake in the heart. Worse than the UV rays that gave her the scar on her back.

The outside world was just a blur to the pale, skeletal vampire. The noises of the twittering of birds and the rustling of branches and the gurgling of a brook all shifted and slid and melted together until Amelia's stomach heaved in nausea. Sweat rolled down her emaciated, trembling frame. Her breaths came in wracking gasps, and she bent double over her bed, digging her sharp fingernails into the mattress and shredding the fluff that poured out like blood blood blood blood blood-- stop-- like blood from a wound.

In came the waves. The symptoms, the cravings. The world tilted, and she fell to the ground, a sweating, trembling jumble of sallow flesh stretched taught over brittle bones. Mighty vampire, brought low, crouching on the ground like a pothead without a fix.

But now the waves seemed to be riding themselves out. She let out a shuddering breath (an unnecessary action, as she no longer had the need to breathe), and slowly, her fingers uncurled themselves. Jerky, uncertain. Her facial expression relaxed. She leaned back against the bed, pearly hair trailing down her cheeks.

The commotion in the rest of the house made her stir, still in an exhausted, sleep-heavy fog. So she stumbled to her feet, and a puzzled (though somewhat loopy) smile crossing her face. Straightening her robes, hair sticking out in all directions, Amelia Finch dawdled over to the door and poked out her head.

"Wha... what'sss going on?" she asked (words coming out slowly, as always). She tipped her head, a little smile touching her white, white lips as she laid eyes on her brothers. She had occasional innocent moments, where you saw a carefree Amelia Finch, but those times were far and few and in between. Mostly, her eyes seemed to turn inward. More sadness. More pain.

Not right now. The fact that she'd "invited a human into her home" (as she thought of it), in the midst of her struggle with bloodlust, had completely... slipped her mind.

It probably wasn't very smart of her.

Lorcain sat quietly in the parlor, a book in his lap. He had been one of the first up in the household- whenever the sun set, he very rarely stayed longer in his chambers then needed. He wondered how the others could easily let their precious time slip- it was, after all, a very limited time to be up and about.

He flipped another page of his novel, and heard one of the latest rising members fumble her way down. Amelia. Lorcain scowled, listening to her stumble around, and her appearance even worse. The woman had no pride in her outward portrayal! She was beautiful, as many vampires were, but Amelia was a naturaly stunning woman to begin with. He wondered why she never took time in her appearance. After all, an outward appearance (In Lorcain's professional point of view) allowed the humans to gather to them- like honey to bees, instantly attracted, always searching...Life was so much easier, no; hunting so much easier, when the humans just flocked to him.

The inner mentioning of humans brought yet another scowl to Lorcain's exceptional face. Was today the day their blood bags would arrive? He dug into his trouser pocket and fished out a pocket watch; yes, today was the day they would receive their new property. At first, Lorcain despised the idea of live-in humans...he didn't need a pet. Clothe it, feed it, don't kill it. So many rules, so much hassle. No thank you, he would pass on tending to a blood bag. But the nightly endeavors, and hunting, seemed to take a toll on Lorcain.

He did enjoy the hunt, the seduction, the killing....

But there were nights where all he wanted to do was simply stay home and read; instead of prowling around in obnoxious night clubs - the loud, terrible excuse of music, bothered him- looking for some willing slut...and then there was the body disposal he had to worry about. He tired of finding a place to dump bodies- and he really HAD to get rid of bodies...If a vampire savaged body laid in the streets (like in the good ol' days) he imagined they would all be burned in their sleep. They had to keep their monstrous behavior hidden from the public, in order to be saved by the public. Silly tactic, really, but useful.

This was enough reason for Lorcain to invest in a personal blood bag. yes, he would hunt when he felt like it, but for convenience sake he would purchase a more permanent solution. He just had to contain himself when feeding on his property- something he knew he would need more practice on- because acquiring a blood bag was hard (not many people were willing to be a nightly meal) but also very expensive...Lorcain could easily drain his fortune buying blood bag, after blood bags, if he was not careful.

Sighing, Lorcain greeted Amelia, "Amelia, a good evening to you."

Cold.
Ever cold. It was eating Bastien from the inside out. No sustenance. His body was running on nothing. Have you ever felt the gnawing hunger after a day or so of simply not finding the time to eat? You try to distract yourself from the pain in your core, but it never leaves. The first time you think about blood--food, hunger's bite snaps its jaws around your middle even more aggressively. It left him feeling utterly drained, and his face took on the appearance. The darkness under his eyes was even worse than it usually was, and his colorful lips now pale.

Bastien was lying on his side along a long sofa, legs curled in front of him a bit. His eyes examined each thread and the subtle differences in their color within the cushion his face pressed against. But alas, it was a terrible distraction. He sucked his bottom lip in and let his fangs dig into his skin a little... He shivered. Oh, how he craved a meal! It must have been an eternity since his last.

Amelia walked into the room. Her words swirled in his dizzy mind like a psychedelic drug. He ignored them for the moment. He was thinking.

When was it? He tried to think back, releasing his bottom lip from his teeth. He closed his eyes. Ah, yes. He remembered. He'd managed to catch a rabbit outside of the lair. He'd sucked that foul animal dry. It had satisfied him for about ten minutes, and tasted stale. It wasn't even worth the effort it had taken to catch it. Bastien opened his eyes, lying still in place as he had been for the past twenty nine hours. He was beginning to go stir crazy.

Amelia's words danced back into his mind. "Wha... what'sss going on?" He acknowledged her now.

"Waiting. Waiting still." Bastien took in a deep breath and let it out. He was beginning to feel angry at time, how it passed so slow. They'd been notified of their blood bag's destined arrival days earlier, and they passed like years. "Just short hours left, I should hope." He looked away from Amelia and down to the cold, stone floor and paused. "I'll go out and find myself a meal if they don't show, I think. I'm nearly done waiting."

"Amelia, a good evening to you."

The vampiress smiled in tolerance, though wincing a little, as her brother addressed her. She, Lorcain, and Bastien were not blood-related siblings, of course-- anybody could see that just by looking at them-- but she still automatically thought of them as her brethren after the long years of the Sun War. Most vampire groups (groups, or families, or clans, or shades, as they were called depending on who you asked; Amelia preferred the term "nests", as it reminded her of bird nests, filled with shiny shirt buttons and fluffy feather-down) did.

After so long, it was easy for her to tell what her brother thought of her state of appearance.

But hey, technically (though it was 6 PM), she had just gotten out of bed.

"A good morning for mmmme, Lorry," she murmured, smiling and running her hand through her mussed-up hair. Her eyes darted to Bastien. "Oh dear. It is tonight, isn't it?" Her other brother looked to be in a dreadful state, curled on the sofa, eyes tracing the blue patterns in the fabric.

Only just then, he seemed to register her words. "Waiting. Waiting still. Just short hours left, I should hope. I'll go out and find myself a meal if they don't show, I think. I'm nearly done waiting."

"Oh-- don't," she cried, leaning forward as if into his words, bracing against them. "Come now, Bastien, the humans will be here any moment." (She glanced at Lorcain as if making sure that she had the timing straight in her mind.) "Humans here. Hhhhow about that."

Lorry, he hated that nickname and he was sure Amelia knew it- but leave it to her to find the few buttons he had, and push them. More like smash at them. But, Lorcain tolerated the name, vampires were few and far in between- he couldn't go around killing his kind because of some silly name...No, the race had to be perserved- and you had to pull out his fangs to get him to admit it, he had a rather soft spot for his make-shift clan. They weren't exactly family, none of them related, not even sired by the same vampires- but with a dwindling race, all they had was each other. His previous clan was large, all arrogant, riding on the highs of vampire domination, and all too busy with their own pitiful existences to really invest in other members...

Forced together for survival, his little make-shift clan was all Lorcain had...and yet, he knew these two odd vampires better then he did his actual family.

"Honestly, Bastien..." Lorcain sighed, "hold yourself together. Humans will be arriving, and soon. You can have your meal then- but do try not to kill them? They are suppose to be a long term investment, not a midnight snack." Lorcain pitied Bastien at this moment, it seemed his bloodlust was worse then usual- or was this typical behavior for the other male vampire? It was hard for Lorcain to tell, they were such opposites in so many aspects. "Also," Lorcain continued, "Let's try to remember they require... maintenance..."

Food, bedrooms, things humans needed to survive had to be found for their new pets. Not an easy task, particularly when you only walk the night, and would rather be hunting, instead of furniture shopping. Lorcain half guessed he could throw in just a mattress in and pale, and call it over with...After all, the humans were property, they didn't have to lead lofty lives. But, let it not be said Master Lorcain O'Dwry was a total monster. He also suspected that if the blood bag lived in some comfort, and not in total fear, they would be healthier to feed on- who wanted stale blood? Lorcain certainly didn't. And if that meant he had to provide food, room, and a little hospitality, it certainly was no sweat off his back. After all, it was not like he would be cooking for the human- they would have to do that themselves, and pick up after themselves (because a dirty blood bag, and a dirty chamber would never be tolerated, specially for Locain's human)

"I suspect they should be arriving shortly," He said softly. "Now, what was it that we ordered?" Lorcain questioned, he couldn't quite remember. "One male, two females?"

Hearing his brother and sister's scolding, Bastien sighed loudly and sat up straight on the couch. He watched Amelia lean into her words then covered his eyes with his hands, elbows in the air as the backs of his arms rested against the top of the couch. How dramatic. "I'm hungry," he growled. "I do not understand how you both feel as well as you do right now." Of course, he did. He was the youngest of the group. Turned at twenty, he'd only been immortal for thirteen years so far.

He was in full-blown pouting, but he'd never admit it. He listened to Lorcain's 'words of wisdom' about keeping them alive and such. He was right, unfortunately. Though a wise investment indeed, the new pets would have a lot more needs than Bastien did. It had been so many years of basic vampire needs that he was beginning to forget how needy humans really were. Food, water, comfort, attention... All of this wasn't quite on the forefront of his mind, however. "How long does it even take blood to replenish...?" He mumbled quietly to himself, barely audible. He supposed he would find out soon enough.

He was about to go search the attic for something he would need later on, but suddenly his ears caught an unusual sound from outside. He identified it as the movement of gravel. Shortly after, the sound of squealing brakes. Bastien uncovered his eyes and sprang off of the couch for the first time in more than a day. He appeared in front of the window almost instantly, opening the curtains wide to see through the night. Bastien immediately cheered up, a look of excitement on his face. His only problem now would be how to lead into the first feeding as quickly as was polite... though there was always time to be polite the next time, he figured. Regardless, he swallowed as his mouth watered and straightened himself up. He walked to the door and turned back to his family with a sincere smile. "Oh, shall we, brother and sister?"

"Ahm... practice, I suppose, brother," Amelia answered Bastien, smiling wryly, though his mumbling did not go unnoticed. Watching him caused her mind to stir. She ducked her head quickly, allowing some tangled blond hair to fall over her face as her eyes darted between their faces.

It seemed that Lorcain hadn't noticed anything "off" about her, but then again, it had been a whole year before she began limiting her blood intake, and now she could manage the clawing in her stomach, like icicle spears scraping along the bottom of her stomach. And the dryness-- water never wet her mouth, not enough. It was like the scratchy sandpaper taste thick in your mouth after sleeping with your mouth open, but it never went away, and all she could think about, all she could dream about, was how hot blood would splash over her tongue and fill her mouth and...

Her stomach heaved a bit. She shook her head, a shiver running up her spine. She'd almost forgotten the flavor of blood, but still she craved it, despite the thought of sinking her fangs into another throat repulsed her. She may not be a living creature, but... but they were. When in the last fifty-nine years as a vampire had she become accustomed to killing?

Amelia paused, remembering the attack that morning. Perhaps "managed" was not the proper word. Perhaps "hide" was better.

Amelia knew that not all the members of her family felt the same as she did regarding humans. She attributed it to her age. The six years she had on Lorcain made her infinitely wiser. Of course. Lorcain-- Lorcain would thoughtlessly rip apart a human's body, and it infuriated her. She loved him, but that kind of behavior was simply unacceptable. Perhaps forgivable for a younger vampire, such as Bastien... who, admittedly, she liked more than Lorcain, but loved no more or less... after all, who but Lorcain could she peeve so delightfully just by speaking the word 'Lorry'?

She pulled a strand of hair between her fingers, a habit she had acquired over the years. She swapped out tics like a human would swap out clothes or men. It had become almost a hobby, picking them up through the decades in dozens of countries, dozens of nations.

She noticed Bastien stir and turned her head. An ugly human machine, an omnibus, pulled into the driveway. The wheels spun and spit up gravel. Groaning, the vampiress placed a hand to her forehead. She had not even heard it approach, so wrapped up in her thoughts she was! Dear, oh dear, was she thirsty...

"Oh!" Amelia jolted, or made a movement as close to jolting as the airy woman could manage (she floated, not jolted. Fluid, not jerky). "We shhhhould have been out there to greet them. We wouldn't want them to thhhink us rude." She fixed Lorcain with a meaningful, gray-eyed stare.

Lorcain raised an eyebrow at Amelia, she made point to direct her last sentence to him.

"Rude? Now sister, we all know I may not be the best behaved, but my social demeanor is anything but spectacular." And it was his spectacular social demeanor that always brought his prey to him. A flash of his smile, a gentlemanly gesture, a simple, desired touch- all weapons in their own right, and just as deadly as his fangs. He always won the game of seduction, and his prize was blood. Let Amelia think what she will, but Lorcain had embraced his new self when he was turned. He was the hunter and he needed to survive. Vampires did not have the luxury to choose their diet; it was gorge on blood or meet the black abyss known as death.

He stood from his chair, placing his book down, and straightened out his impeccable tailored jacket. "Let us greet them, if we must." Lorcain did suppose he would at least have to know his human's name. He couldn't go about calling it "human," or "it,"- that just seemed tacky. And Lorcain was not tacky, he was tasteful. He went to the door, opening it wide for Amelia and Bastien to cross. Stepping outside, he could hear the rush of beating hearts. Actual beating hearts! Blood pumping in the glorious four chambered vessel, running precious ruby liquid into intricate veins.

He wanted to bite. He wanted to eat. The blood lust coursed through his being, slowly stripping him away of his sanity. Hunger, instinct, feasting, was brought to the forefront of his mind. All he had to do was simply reach out, bend a neck, and bite. Eat till he was full, eat till he was content- but when was a vampire ever satisfied? If he answered fully to his blood lust, Lorcain would have drained all three humans and STILL want more. Inwardly, Lorcain shook himself, but on the outside he still looked calm and collected.

Long term investment, he chanted to himself, the humans are a long term investment.

"Give it three days to recover," Lorcain whispered to Bastien. He was answering the question asked earlier- he heard the young vampire's imploring need; the need to know how long it would take for a human to replenish it's blood. "We're not sure how tender these humans are, we need to learn patience and go about this slowly." Lorcain knew this would be challenge, most particularly for himself. He put a hand on Bastien's shoulder, a rare sign of brotherly affection, "Remember, nobody wants to play with broken toys."

Practice, yes. Amelia was right; feeding would simply be a trial and error sort of thing. Hopefully the error wouldn't be too much so. He did spend a large amount of money on his blood bag. Bastien kept telling himself that so hopefully he wouldn't forget why he was supposed to stop feeding before she died in his arms.

The new moonlight felt lovely on his skin, the same as if a human stepped into the sun after chilling in the A/C all day long. His skin was sensitive enough to pick up on the subtle light and it always did feel nice. A little chilly perhaps, but it wasn't too bad. Not bad at all, in fact, as his body began to heat up from the inside out. He swallowed past the flaming desert that was his throat, hearing the soundtrack of his life three times over. Thump, thump. Thump, thump.
"Give it three days to recover." He was told. Lorcain's hand fell upon his shoulder and that was how he knew that he was sincere about helping him keep his new pet alive. "Remember, nobody wants to play with broken toys."
"How true," Bastien spoke through a sore throat.

Bastien had noticed that Amelia was also struggling with the thirst, but she handled the thoughts much differently than her brothers did. Bastien and Lorcain would think about the hunt like one looked forward to Thanksgiving meal after not eating the rest of the day, whereas Amelia's diet made her sick to think about. The two had tried to tell her dozens of times over that it's natural, but that was just Amelia. Bastien would never understand her thinking and he accepted that. He wondered how she would handle the situation.

Bastien did his best to control his thoughts as he approached the three people in front of them. He wasn't aware which was his, except that it was female. Only they knew who had purchased them. There was a blonde girl and a girl with colorful hair. The man he paid hardly any attention to except a quick glance over. "Good evening, ladies." He reached forward gently in hopes of not spooking the two as he reached for one hand each of theirs. He carefully brought each one to his lips one at a time and kissed softly before letting them fall back to their sides. He turned to the man. "Sir," he nodded at him to acknowledge him before continuing. "My name is Bastien Delacroix. This is my brother and sister," he gave a hand gesture towards them. "I will let them introduce themselves." He stepped back to give the humans a bit of space while two more vampires introduced themselves to them. He watched the girls' eyes and where they looked to between the three of them and curiously wondered, was this the closest they'd ever been to a vampire?

Sir! The. Vampire. Called. Him. Sir. Zai was about ready to jump up and down squeeing like a child, and only barely contained himself. Quickly getting his mind back under control, he nodded back and gave a bright grin. Oh, this would be so much fun! His eyes roamed over everyone in attendance. The vampires stood facing them all, Zai on the far left with the red haired girl to his right, and then Laci was all the way over on the other side. Well, actually, she was quite close. But Zai still wanted to run over to her side. She was the only one he knew here, sort of, and she was nice to him. That was the most important thing, since there wasn't many people who were nice to him. You know, big brother had always got the attention. And at the faculty, no one even spoke to him. They were all pretty scary actually, and they all seemed strong enough to crush him just by sitting on him. If he'd known he was going to end up there, maybe he would have joined his brother one of those times he offered to take him to training. But of course, that was never Zai's thing, so he never went.

Now his eyes wandered back to the vampires. He had to belong to the female one, that would make the most sense. Not that he would complain if he was owned by one of the equally handsome males. Owned, what a peculiar word to be using in this sense. Were they really going to treat them like property? This was going to be so interesting, to be able to observe the vampires up close! Or at least he'd be able to observe his vampire, hopefully she wouldn't mind. Or he. We're just going to call it she, because he was fairly positive that he belonged to the beautiful fae. And she was beautiful, though she sort of looked like she just tumbled out of bed. Oh! Another question to ask them, did they sleep? Could they? Was it just like a...blank state? That would be so strange, but at the same time so interesting. Would they stay in the blank state for long? Could they get lost there? Zai. His thoughts abruptly stopped and he tried to bring himself back to the current situation. Hopefully he would have time for questions later. Was he supposed to introduce himself now? Perhaps not, he should just be quiet until they ask him to speak..or maybe they would think him rude. Oh no.

Sarah was the last one off the bus, and since she hated being on the outside, she went to stand in between the two humans. Not that she wasn't a human, but there was now two different species here, she had to be careful. One of the male vampires came close to them and extended a hand, which she warily placed her smaller hand in. When his lips touched her skin she flinched, it was almost unnoticeable, but didn't snatch her hand back like she wanted too. Though when her hand returned to her side, she subtly wiped the back of it on her dark jeans. It wasn't that she wanted to be rude, but she wouldn't have let anyone kiss her hand. In some way she understood his wanting to be, gentlemanly maybe, and she respected that, but it wasn't needed. Or at least not for her. She couldn't say for the other two, maybe they had expectations of these hot, gentlemanly, sweep-you-off-your-feet bloodsuckers. Oh wait, there was a movie about that already. Twilight. Kristen Stewart is not a good actress...

The girl calmly looked over each of the vampires. All of them were good-looking, even the female, and she so did not swing that way. But it was almost, unbelievable. How perfect looking they were. Well, the female looked a bit out-of-sorts, but who wasn't at this moment? At least she was being brave enough to show it. Both the men had brown hair, both very handsome. Not that she would let herself dwell on that, but she was a girl, and she did appreciate attractive guys. Though which did she belong too? The gentleman, or the polished one? Polished, heh, barbie doll.

Lorcain observed the humans. One male, two females. He know he didn't order the male, clearly that was Amelia's pick. Not that it mattered, blood was blood, it didn't matter what gender the source was. Though, Lorcain would admit, he rather enjoyed female prey. Not because they were generally easier to seduce, it was the way they swooned in his arms when he bit them. The sink of his fangs in their tender skin, the sigh of pleasure escaping their lips...There was something seriously taboo, and intoxicating about being bit by a vampire, more popular among the female population. As long as they were willing to oblige, Lorcain was willing to bite.

'Well, willing prey or not...I'm always ready to bite,' Lorcain thought grimly.

Stepping forward, Lorcain examined the females. Very pretty indeed, for humans at least. The blonde was short, and petite- very elegant and definitely European. Lorcain let his eyes roam, and found what he was searching for- it laid on her wrist, a small plastic band, with her identifying name and purchase number. 'Bless technology,' Lorcain thought, 'purchase number, tracking numbers. Makes life so much easier.' He looked to the other female- a clear counterpart of the first, with fire red hair (Dyed? Most likely, he thought. Why would anyone do that to their natural hair color?) and she seemed much quieter then the others. The red head also had a plastic ban on her wrist, her name and purchase information, even her blood type. Lorcain was no fool, he saw the subtle hand movement, the wiping of Bastien's kiss.

Generally, he would be insulted FOR Bastien, but he also couldn't blame the human girl. She was just delivered for the soul purpose to feed a vampire- trust wasn't given. That said something about her attitude and instincts, this girl would be hard headed and stubborn. Help him, if this was his human.

He looked to the three humans, a small, gentlemen like smile on his face. "Lorcain," he began. "My name is Lorcain O'Dwry, a pleasure."

He produced a folded piece of paper from his pocket, looked over it for a moment. He never knew what his human looked like, or her name, the blood bag was purchased on a simple taste test. Lorcain was given small samples of blood of the provided humans and he chose what he liked best. Like wine tasting, but for vampires. He grinned at the irony of it all. When the property was purchased, they were given a number sequence indicating the matching human to the blood. Lorcain assumed the same numbers would be on the wrist bands.

After the pleasantries, he would examine the wrist bands and finally claim what was his.

The tiny pulses in their wrists, their necks, did not bowel Amelia over as much as she had braced herself for-- thought that should have been expected. She supposed she had romanticized the human flow of blood. After all, there were many small animals in these woods, and their pulses did not often send her into a bloodlusting frenzy. ("Often" being the key word. Once, the sudden appearance of a deer caught her by surprise, and before she knew what had happened, she was crouching over a massacred carcass. Not pretty. Afterwards, she hurled up the contents of her stomach into the creek; animal blood was promising in smell, in texture, in feel, but the taste was just revolting in comparison to bona fide human blood. Besides, [ii]anyone[/i] would be disgruntled when one second they were sniffing a delicate flower and the next they were looking up from deer intestines.)

She breathed a sigh of relief that none of the humans had any open wounds. That would have been a problem.

No, it wasn't the pulses that took her off guard. It was the heartbeats.

She was shocked to remember how loud a human heartbeat could be. Slowing, speeding, fluttering, pounding. Ba-dump, ba-dump, ba-dump. In their house it could be as silent as the grave with how fluidly vampires could move, without a pulse, without a heartbeat. But the humans-- they were deafening. Amelia pushed her too-long bangs out of her face, slightly appalled, allowing the moonlight to fall across her skin; her ivory complexion almost glowed in the beams. How did the humans stand it? All those fluids sloshing back and forth, air flowing in and out, organs moving and beating and pulsing without permission.

After Bastien's introduction-- warm pride of his manners blossomed within Amelia's chest, despite knowing that he was probably just trying to charm them for later convenience, and even Lorcain's greetings were tolerable-- Amelia stepped forward and inclined her head. "My name is Amelia," she said, giving a small and rather apologetic smile, as if trying to make amends for her whole race. She was surprised that none of the three had even tried to attack them yet. Humans had attempted far more futile attempts on vampires' lives before this; she'd seen it. Perhaps this was a sign of cooperation between races? Tensions relieving? She could only pray that it would be so, but as long as vampires mail ordered humans for food, she wasn't sure that they could ever see each other as more than monsters and buffet tables.

"And yyyou mmust be Zaisuke," she added in a sudden burst of self consciousness, eagerly turning towards the boy. He looked around the age she had been when she was turned, perhaps younger. He looked as if he were brimming, positively buzzing with life. (Oh, God, Amelia, stop thinking of his pulse! He's a person, not a meal!) Oh, wait, oh no, was he one of those vampire-obsessed necrophiliacs? She'd heard that the registry centers were full of them. No, he couldn't possibly be; he looked so earnest. And why was her stutter acting up so badly? She wanted to kick herself! "It's a pleasure to mmmeeet yyou," she added, robes fluttering about her frail shoulders as she approached him and extended her hand.

Lacianne braced herself as the vampires approached her. She squared her shoulders and was tempted to cross her arms, but didn't want to seem too standoffish so she held her ground. She couldn't help but notice they were all very attractive. Their skin was light but not ghostly white like in the stories, and almost flawless. The two males had warm brown hair and eyes.
She was fine until one of the attractive males approached her and the other girl. She very hesitantly aloud him to take her hand, but when her brought her hand to his mouth her eyes widened. Was he about to bite her? Seriously?! She wasn't even through the door and he was trying to make a meal of her?!

She twisted her hand away and jerked back, her blue eyes bright and wild. It was then she watched him gently bring the other girl's hand to his lips, then release her. Oh. She was too stubborn to say she was sorry for the misunderstanding, so instead she crossed her arms over her chest and at lease tried to be civil. She really hoped the other male had 'bought' her, so she wouldn't have to deal with someone who probably thought she hated him. " "My name is Bastien Delacroix. This is my brother and sister," He went on, and she wanted to hit her head on something. Of corse. She was pretty sure that this was her vampire.

"Lorcain. My name is Lorcain O'Dwry, a pleasure." The other vampire introduced himself, taking away her attention. She didn't respond, other then giving him a wary glance as she twisted the rubber bracelet on her wrist. As she did, she was sure they could see the tattoo she had on her wrist. Fighter. She hoped it served as a warning to them- she was not going to sit by passively and enjoy being fed off of.

After a moment of silence between the four, while Zai met his vamp, she decided she might as well give them her name. "Lacianne Fluer Roux. If I happen to decide that I like you -which is highly unlikely, keep in mind- I may allow you to call me Laci. That is, of course, unless you are just planning on killing us and getting new blood bags." She held her head high, flicking back a golden look and raising a brow daringly. Her lilting English accent softened her voice a fraction, but it was cold nonetheless.

Bastien was slightly taken aback by the force of which the blonde one pulled away her hand. He smirked just a little, and noticed the other girl wiping his kiss away from her hand. "It seems you're not ones for old fashioned hospitality," he said, watching the two. It amused him, as he was much too young to come from an age where that kind of hospitality was commonplace. He wondered if he was beginning to lose his touch, but then inwardly laughed at the thought. Impossible. Just out of practice, is all.

He watched his brother and sister introduce themselves. The blood bags seemed to take to them much more nicely, which made Bastien feel a little impatient. The one male human, Zaisuke, seemed positively excited about the experience. How interesting! Bastien had not missed the grin that came along with acknowledging his nod. He ran his tongue over the tip of his right fang as he thought. He was in for either a pleasantly euphoric experience later on, or a night terror he wouldn't wake up from, when he began to realize what vampires were really like. Bastien considered these types of humans to be naive, stupid even, not to fear his kind. Perhaps Amelia would let him feed on him once or twice... though he doubted it. Amelia was too much of a human-hugger.

The word "Fighter" on her wrist proved to show in how the blonde one acted as Lacianne introduced herself with plenty of attitude. A grin spread wider across Bastien's face as she spoke. An excitement began to build inside of him. It made him antsy and he desired to begin the chase of winning this woman over, one way or another. She raised an eyebrow like Go ahead, I'll die with dignity. Bastien couldn't take it anymore. In a quick flash, he'd stepped beside Lacianne and grabbed hold of her wrist. He could feel her struggles but held her arm still as he twisted the band around. He saw the name and smiled again, an excited laugh coming through. He let her arm free. "Oh, this is going to be fun. Highly unlikely? For your sake, let's hope not!" Bastien looked to his siblings, a certain spark in his eye that was not there a few minutes ago.

"I assume she is yours?" Lorcain asked his brother. Bastien was grinning like an idiot as he looked over the blonde trouble maker. She was snarky, and he wasn't sure if it was fear or utter disregard for the situation she was in, that gave her the courage to talk in such a manner. All the better she belonged to Bastien, Lorcain had a feeling he would have lost his temper with her at some point- and a vampire loosing his temper meant he usually didn't give a damn what he hit...Or bit. It wasn't the fact she was human that gave the Lorcain idea to discipline her, but rather he couldn't not stand the blatant disregard of respect.

Which was entirely different from Amelia- sure, Amelia pushed his buttons, even teased and prodded Lorcain, but she had the decency to never challenge him unless she felt the utter need. Bastien's little blood bag on the other hand...She would probably challenge the poor young immortal about her sleeping quarters. All the better, all the better, Lorcain told himself.

That left only one human to be claimed- the red head, and she was Lorcain's. He bowed in a small gesture, as if to say pardon me, and took hold of her arm with ease. He examined her wrist band, matching the numbers on his receipt...Sarah.

She was his.

He was quiet for a spell, the moment profound- he was now to take care of somebody else other than himself. Shit, buying a blood bag was going to force him to be more responsible on more than one level. She never said anything, simply observed, moved subtley. At least she didn't have a sharp tongue- that was always a virtue. He wondered if she would always be this silent? Out of sight, out of mind, Lorcain observed. Would this be the ideal symbiotic relationship? She would take to her own devices, and let him feed when needed? In return, he would leave her be? A business transactions of sorts, no strings attached.

Yes that would be entirely ideal. However, it also depended on her...On how Sarah would react, if she reacted at all.

"Well then," he said lowly. "Let me show you to your chambers, Sarah."

Lacianne watched Bastian carefully just after she spoke. She could recognize excitement building. Before she could move, he had her wrist and was reading her wristband. She immediately tried to rip away her arm, almost growling as she jerked back. Her let go of her wrist, grinning wildly as he saw she was 'his'. It was disgusting, really, buying a human like she was property. As though she wasn't a living being who was fully aware of what was going on. If she was going to be forced into this, she would go kicking and screaming.

"Oh, this is going to be fun. Highly unlikely? For your sake, let's hope not!" Her vampire told her, with a bright spark in his eye. Laci's lips curled into a sugary smile, as she neared the vampire. When she was a mere few inches away from him, she rested her hand flat on his chest and stood on her toes so she was closer to his face. Her bright blue eyes showed no fear as she spoke softly.
"For my sake, eh? Well you see, this can go two ways. I can be relatively easy, with a little banter here and there but overall a pleasure. Or, I can give you trouble at every turn, and stay completely unwilling through this entire. . . partnership." Laci gave him an alluring smile and bated her lashes twice. "Your choice, love."

With that, she chuckled and rocked back on her heels before spinning around and returning to her original spot. Sure, she knew that he very well could have killed her right there but once you've already escaped death you tended to be a bit more. . . daring. Well, that or paranoid.

Her eyes flicked towards the human she had befriended, Zai. He seemed almost. . . exited at this whole situation. It was surprising- who would be happy to be put in this position? The only reason she had was to save her aunt, although she figured after she left her uncle probably put her down like a sick dog. Just like her mother, and almost her.
Better a quick and painless death then a slow and painful one.

Sarah held back a laugh as she watched the blonde. Were all girls so dramatic and bitchy? Personally, she liked to think that she wasn't like that. Though who knew what other people thought of her. Actually, who cared? The other vampire approached her and bowed, another gesture that she thought silly, but at least he wasn't being rude. Without him even needed to grab her hand, she offered her arm to him, presenting the wrist band. It was some sort of silly receipt, though a wrist band was better than actually being branded. God, that would be degrading, practically putting them in the same group as cattle.

The vampire grew quiet, and she continued to watch the happenings around her. Miss blondie had returned to her spot and the boy at the other end seemed to still be vibrating. It was odd, that he seemed to actually be thrilled about this. Though, this was probably better than staying at that facility forever, and she certainly was not about to complain. So maybe she would have to deal with a vampire feeding off of her maybe once or twice a day, and maybe sex if that was what he desired. It was a hell of a lot better than how those guards and scientists treated them.

Her eyes flicked back to Lorcain when he spoke again. Chambers? She hadn't expected to actually have a room... actually she might have preferred to just sleep on a couch somewhere. Nodding slightly, she took a hesitant step forward. "Lead the way, vampire."

Though slightly hesitant, Zai took the offered hand to shake before placing his hands back at his side. "It's great to meet you too, Amelia." His eyes widened slightly. "You don't mind if I call you Amelia, do you? I don't mean to be disrespectful, 'just thought we might get along better if I stop thinking about how your race is so more advanced then ours." Giving a small smile, he tried to stop his leg from shaking. Though from stopping that he began to play with his hands again. It was an endless cycle, stop the leg, start the hands. Stop the hands, the twitches start. Cease twitching, eyes start flicking around crazily. Maybe he could just handle the leg shaking, surely she wouldn't mind that much. Maybe she wouldn't even notice it.

"Oh, and it you'd like you can call me Zai. Zaisuke is such a mouthful." He repeated almost his exact words from earlier, from when he was speaking to Laci. Hopefully the vampires would allow the humans to continue to interact, he would miss his new friend. It wasn't like they could really do anything though, even together, so he really didn't see a reason that the vampires wouldn't let them talk. Even with the two of them together, a single one of them could kill them before they even got to react. "And please don't think I'm weird for acting sort of excited, I'm just so happy to be out of that place. And I was hoping that we'd be friends or something, that's sort of silly isn't it?" He shook his head, eyes stuck on the ground. Something about actually being so up and close with a female, especially one that could drain his body in a few seconds, was making him flustered and unable to look straight at her.

Lorcain held the door open for his blood bag, examining her as she walked by. Really, he was listening to her heart and pulse. Seemed strong enough, beating a bit fast, most likely due to stress or nervousness. What human wouldn't be under some stress in this situation?

...Well, Amelia's human was a slightly different story. His poor sister, she just so happened to purchase the fang lover of the bunch, and the human was paired with the worst vampire for it. He would hardly be fed on, if ever. Amelia would most likely feed here in the next few days, her bloodlust must be rising, but she would damn near starve herself before she had the touch the human again. And Amelia was master of starvation...

The same couldn't be said for Lorcain, he would most likely feed twice or three times a week of his blood bag, maybe more depending on how well she took to biting. Or how much he would like to feed from her...He still wouldn't deny himself a hunt every so often, his instincts could not, and would not, be ignored.

Leading Sarah into the house he pointed into a few different directions. "Kitchen," the word was alien to him after so long...he wasn't sure if they even used the kitchen for anything, "to the left, I believe. Honestly, I forgot we had a kitchen. Dinning room somewhere in there as well." He laughed inwardly, what the hell did a vampire need a kitchen for? Pointing to the front of him, "Parlor and living room. Beyond that is the library." He walked up the stairs, he could feel the female's human's light footsteps behind him, as they reached the top he simply pointed to one end of the hallway. "Your chambers are located here."

He walked her down, and opened three doors. All the rooms were technically available, and had been clean and prepared for the blood bag's arrivals. No particular room was assigned to no particular human. They all looked about the same, furniture wise, it really just depended on how well she liked windows and natural lighting. Something Lorcain had not thought about in ages, his windows (at least during the day) were securely tied shut with several layers of heavy draping. He had not bothered to point out where he and his siblings slept, there was no need for the blood bag to know where to find him when he was at his most vulnerable.

"Choose whichever room you like, your bags will be brought to you. After you have somewhat settled, join me in the library. We have....matters to discuss."

Amelia's head twitched in Bastien's direction at his deplorable display. It was none of her business, but still, his behavior grated at her. In the parking lot? Truly? Was he really going to feed here? Amelia's hands tightened into little white fists. Her youngest brother needed to learn some restraint. It was as if he had no respect for what he was, what he represented. Was he really content to lower himself to a savage? Shooting him a dark glare, a growl rose in her throat.

But she forced a shuddering breath (an unnecessary process, yet still calming) and shook her head. Scraggly blond hair fell across her face. As the blond woman (beautiful in a mortal way, ferocious, so that it seemed as if she were striving to defy her own beauty) snapped back at Bastien, Amelia's eyes softened. It's funny how her heart could find a way to melt in pity at just about anything-- anything human related, that is; she tended to judge her countrymen more cruelly.

Later on, Amelia mused, she would converse with the girl. Her brothers could be... quite unforgiving.

Then again, the girl (Lacianne?) looked like she was methodically planning out how to beat Bastien to the floor, rip off his head with her bare hands, ground it in garlic, soak it in holy water, and mount it in the stake in the sunlight. Fried vampire head for breakfast.

Amelia sort of didn't doubt that the girl could implement it.

Her attention returned to Zaisuke as he stuttered through his introductions with many apologies and much shaking. A pang of empathy struck her unbeating heart so fiercely that she wanted to give him a hug! Poor guy. He looked like he was about to collapse on the spot; either that or vibrate straight out of his clothes. She was unsure of what to make of his style. (Amelia, after all, hardly knew what was "popular" nowadays). She did not recognize the label on his T-shirt.

Her eyes widened when, at last, she lifted her gaze to his. Swirling in the warm chocolate hue of his pupils were golden flecks, so startling that she double checked to see if he was even human. She couldn't remember the last time that a human drew her attention just through his appearance. She lifted a pale hand to her mouth, touching her lip thoughtfully.

She moved closer so that they could have more privacy from Bastien and Lacianne's... spectacle.

"A pleasure to meet you, Zais... Zzzzai," she greeted, clasping her skeletal hands together and dipping her head in welcome. "So much taller than me..." she mumbled, hopefully too soft for him to hear. "Oh, yes! Plllease do call me Amelia. I don't want to be a..." She shrugged, not wanting to say 'master'. Still, his suggestion pleased her.

She gave an excited but subdued smile, full of shy white teeth and fangs. "I am haaappy about this situation. I want to let yyou know that I... thhere is..." She sighed and fidgeted. As always, her train of thought escaped her, and it was frustrating. Determined, she pressed on, "I do nnnot have any intention of fffeeding from you. I do not like being beholden to the desires of my race." At this, she brushed a curl behind her ear, a habit; her fingers picked at each other and she looked at her hands. She was aware of how odd the situation was.

Almost in exhaustion, she finished her (much-rehearsed) introduction speech. She was rather proud that she finished without stutter.

She didn't plan on feeding from him. The words sort of, well, surprised him. But they didn't make him any less happy. It wasn't about having some vampire suck on his neck or something, it was the idea of potentially having a friend that excited him about this place. Okay, maybe it was also a bit of his curiosity about the vampires too, but it didn't mean he was thrilled about having his blood stolen from him. Though now she was pretty much saying she wasn't going to do that, so this would be even better? They could be friends, and he could ask her questions, and she could ask him questions. If she liked that, or maybe she would just lock him in a room. That would be terrible, very terrible. Ever since Dracula, Zai had been interested in the supernatural. Not in a weird way, it was just the preferred subject of books he read. And now to actually meet a... well 'supernatural'? It was exciting, there was no way to deny that. He didn't want to deny that, it wasn't like he was some creepy guy that thought ghosts stalked him every moment of the day. Ghosts weren't real, other things weren't real, but the vampires obviously were very real. Without thinking, he shrugged. To his inner conversation. And probably looked like an idiot.

Oh well.

With a calmer smile, he took a small step back so he could see her fully. Looking directly into a persons eyes scared him, especially because of the golden specks in his own eyes. His family used to make him wear contacts because of it, but he refused to do so anymore. The stares didn't matter to him, he liked being him, he would be him. They already teased him enough about being bisexual, or they used too, so why not have given them something else to tease him about? He almost shrugged again, but reminded himself that Miss Amelia probably could not hear his internal conversation. "Well, Miss Amelia, do you mind if I ask what you do plan to feed off of then? Or can vampires survive without blood?" Zai wasn't sure exactly what else he could say, so he hoped she wouldn't mind him asking something.

Kitchen, god she couldn't cook for the life of her. This was going to be great, she'd probably poison herself before the vampire had time to suck all the blood out of her. Actually, the only thing she could make was a salad. Which would work out pretty well because she didn't like to eat much else, not that she was a vegetarian or something weird like that, just really picky when it came to food. It was another one of those silly things that made people laugh, but her brother had been the same way. Meat was just fine to eat, but she didn't know what they had stocked in the kitchen. Probably not meat, at least she would assume not. And she really shouldn't risk cooking anything, she'd burn the house down or... die or something.

Next he mentioned the dining room, and the living room, but the one word that confused her was parlor. What the hell was a parlor? At the moment it made her feel really stupid, and poor since there house had a kitchen, living room, and bedrooms. No parlor to be seen. Maybe he meant a sitting room or something, that would make sense. Finally they came to the bedrooms, and she nodded slightly. Peeking in each room, she settled with the one with the least amount of light. Or so it seemed, as the heavy-looking curtains covered the window completely. "This room would be lovely." She said, gesturing towards it with the slight tilt of her head.

"And actually, if you wouldn't mind, may I accompany you to the library now? That's really the only room I'm interested in, s'long as I'm allowed to borrow the books." It didn't matter what sort of books they had in there, she would read whatever she could get her hands on. If they had books in there... but what else would they need a library for? She made a mental note to ask him about the bathrooms too, since she wasn't sure if the rooms had their own bathroom or... well she would ask. Gently biting her bottom lip, she latched her hands together and rocked back on her heels, waiting for his answer.
