The Essential Knowledge
Species: Human, but a bit of elven ancestry.

Age: 28

Appearance: He stands at a towering 6'5" with obvious muscles under his open jacket, coming from working on other things on the ship and fighting. His skin is fair (not as pale as the picture), only bordering on tan due to spending more time belowdecks, making remedies and medicines. His hair his a dark mess, with bangs somewhat falling into his eyes and looking like he just got out of bed. His eyes are really his only physical attribute changed by his elven blood, they shine a light, almost reddish purple.
He tends to wear black clothing which include a blackened leather jacket that he keeps partly open, black trousers kept up with rope and tucked into grey boots. He wears black gloves, fingerless so he can still work with his medicines, and he has several piercings in his ears (three in his left, and two in his right), all are silver hoops accept the lowest left, which is a cross. And he also has on a necklace, which used to be his mother's that he keeps for good luck.

Personaily: He seems a bit quiter than most pirates, not as chatty or excitable. But that's not quite true. It's just that his appearance tends to ward off peole from trying to get too close to him, therefore he doesn't talk to many people. Truth is, he looks big and dark but he's probably one of the most friendly people out there. He loves to smile and have a good laugh with others, and enjoys helping people, especially if it means he could save a life. He wouldn't harm an innocent if threatened and is loyal and caring for friends and those he works with. But despite this, he will not hesitate to cause serious damage or immense pain if the people he cares for are hurt.

Your Opinion Matter
Which side are you on?: "I suppose... the pirates? I am a pirate after all, and it's not like passerby mermaids have been too friendly. The only mermaid I actually know isn't really on a side anyway."

How do you see the war?: "I don't think it's the best thing we could be doing, but neither side is very cooperative. It might not be the healthiest way to solve things for each side, but if we keep fighting like this it might be the quickest, maybe the easiest."

Are you captain or crew?: Crew

Who are your crew?: He's part of Captain Jack Dahnovin's crew.

Whose in your family?: "My father was a pirate, and a great one. He never spilled innocent blood. But I never knew him, I was only ever told about him by my mother. And she only raised me until I was 18, when she died of illness. There is this mermaid I know, Nerida, and she's like a younger... very protective sister of mine."

What's your position?: "I'm the doctor of the crew. I take care of the crew like they're a second family and sometimes heal Nerida when she needs it too. But just because I'm the doctor doesn't mean I won't fight."

Tell us about your history: Edmund grew up fairly normally. he never knew his father due to his father being a pirate, and it was unknown whther he was alive or not. He never minded though because his mother, who was a quarter elf, told him plenty of stories of his father. He learned of how he only pillaged villages that wouldn't miss what was taken much, how he never spilt innocent blood, and only sank other ships if it were needed. Throughout his life, he'd wanted to become a pirate, but didn't want to leave his mother unless it was needed, for she always seemed a bit ill. He learned how to heal using herbs, minerals, and other methods from his mother, and with the elf blood in his veins it almost came naturally.
By age thirteen, he'd already become one of the top trouble makers of his small village despite being one of the quietest children there. That same year, he was having trouble with a few of the othr boys and so went to the beach to be alone and escape their harsh words. He did not expect what he found. A young memaid girl a few years younger than him had washed ashore, and on her bracelet was a name, Nerida Sylvette. She seemed weak and injured, and hadn't yet regained consciousness. He ended up carrying her to a large pond he had behind his house where he and his mother grew aquatic plants and herbs for healing. He began mending her wounds even before she woke up, but when her eyes opened and they began talking they quickly became friends. Along the time he spent caring for her a stronger bond formed, one of a sister and brother, and when his mother found out about the mermaid in their pond they all became a sort of family.
Once Nerida was healthy enough to go out on her own, Edmund carried her back out to sea, but she didn't leave. Instead, she stayed living near Edmund and his mother, the two of them often visiting the young mermaid. This continued for five years. But then when Edmund was 18, his mother had became so ill that her body just couldn't hold on anymore, and she passed away. With the passing of his mother, Edmund took some of his things after burying her and went to start life as a pirate. Soon enough, Edmund found a place as doctor, or "Doc" as some crew mebers call him, on Captain Jack Dahnovin's ship with Nerida always somewhere around.

(I hope it's okay to use him already, because I don't think Squeeky's accepted him yet.)

The only part Nerida never liked about the Sovereign was that it sold people. Living, breathing people with thoughts, feelings, and most possibly families, to be slaves, servants, and playthings. It may have payed well but... even Nerida thought there should be a boundary.

Edmund couldn't agree more with Nerida, but at least he got to keep them healthy enough to survive once they were out of his care. He was checking the healthiness of the last slave's gums and throat, making sure there were no infections, when the Helmsman came running down.

"Doc, Captain said to-"

"Yes, I know. I've finished checking their health, you may offload them now." He waved at the other pirate in dismissal as he turned to put some of his tools away and the Helmsman offloaded the slaves. Once they were all out, Edmund followed behind, wiping his hands on a cloth that he gave to another crew member to clean. "Captain," he paused as he approached said person and walked besides him, "The slaves are all in good health. We're lucky none of them fell ill this time."

As he looked around, he spotted an area that was becoming wet from a mysterious source, a tell-tell sign of Nerida watching. He narrowed his eyes, giving a warning look to say she should be careful with the puddles, before turning his attention back to the Captain.

"Good. This batch was a pair of Mer-Soldiers, which means your 15% cut will go up 5%" Jack said while starring out of the harbor and out to the sea. "There's a few coins on the wheel, go buy yourself a mug of rum."

Jack most definetely in deep thought...looking over the ocean only reminded him of his parents. Thoughts ran through his head, "They lied to you! they have it but wont admit it! take it back!" Jack tensified and his face turned hostil as an anger sweeped through him...

Edmund almost frowned, but held back from it, keeping a straight face instead, "And what of you? Will you be joining us?" He was waiting, stalling until the rest of the crew and slaves were off the ship so he could ask what he needed to as the doctor of the crew. He needed to ask about the dreams, if they'd gotten better, worse, more or less frequent. But he'd wait patiently, as he did every two weeks or so. Meanwhile, he tried ignoring the wet patch they were near, and at how Nerida was obviously still there.

Edmund was right, Nerida was still in that exact spot, frozen, having rolled her eyes at Edmund's warning only moments before. She prepared to take flight, or a dive back down, especially when the Captain's expression became something fierce. in preparation, she looked down to see where she would land before turning to release... then did a double take. There was a mermaid down there. No, two mermaids! And the Captain was in a mood, provoked by certain thoughts. This was one of those moments that she wished she could manipulate emotions instead of dreams.

Finally, she calmed her self as best she could, her cause for diving back down more urgent. She wasn't able to keep the Mer-Soldiers from being captured without being noticed, she was hoping she could for these ones. Releasing her grip on the railing, she pushed off with her tail and twisted in the air into a swan dive. Once she hit the water, she curved her back so she didn't skid against the sea floor. Almost immediately she made herself visible, an urgent look in her eyes and tone in her voice as she swam to the male mermaid, "Hide. Now. Don't let him see you. He'll capture and sell you if he does!" She sped towards the very bottom of the boat where they wouldn't be able to be seen from above, "Follow me! Please!"

Jack still kept his gaze upon the water. "No." Jack firmly stated. "Im going to stay here, over see shipping."

Jack rested his elbow on the railing. "But first head down to the depth charge bay and check the hatch to see if we need a new water hatch." Jack heard movements in the still water, it was either a shark or..."and see if theres anyone's tailing us while your down there."

Jacks thoughts became even more hostile. He would not tolerate anymore fish tailed bastards for the day. He looked down at the 4 flintlocks holstered at his chest, and smirked a little as he looked back out into his gaze of the sea.

Somewhere in the ocean, Hana was floating around, not even swimming. It was something she loved, especially after she did anything that required more than moving a fin.
"Maan, that fight with the mermaid-selling pirate was a paaain..." she thought, as even she knew it wasn't over. "Selling humans and mermaids... no wonder there's this stupid thing everyone call war..."

"Hana Okai, get up from your constant slumber immediately!"

A powerful voice boomed around the blue mermaid and rumbled the water along with her. For a moment Hana felt like a leaf blown by the wind.

"But daaaad!" Hana moaned, rubbing her eyes.
"You shall not complain, rather than that you should be useful for the mermaid society! Take an example of your sister Nami! She does her best to help the Kingdom, and succeeds!" The king yelled.
"Yeah, yeah, Nami is perfect, I'm a lazy bum. It's familiar." Hana said.
"You're not improving anything by standing here, saying this! Begone!"
"Alright, alright! Sheesh!" Hana swam away. And how she wished she could just stay like that for a little longer...

"Ah! Look who's here! Brendan and Seraphim! Those guys are cool!" Hana muttered to herself after a while of swimming. She was several metres behind them, on her way to approach them. Her smile faded when they went closer to a familiar ship.

"And the mermaid salesman will join the party too, eh? I'll just wait here and see if they get in trouble... If something goes wrong... I'll..." Hana was thinking. "I'll..."

Her thoughts stopped, as slumber took over her.

Edmund didn't hesitate to answer, knowing that if he did that his captain might believe something was amiss, "Aye, Captain. I'll inquire to your dreams later." He then walked walked away, almost sighing with how tiresome such a simple thing as keeping his good friend a secret could be. With this thought in mind, he found himself down below, checking the water hatch as he'd been ordered. It was still in good shape, so there'd be no need to exchange it for a new one or fix it up. Now, he wondered if Nerida had hidden.

Nerida was still ducking beneath the ship watching the other merpeople and hurriedly beckoning to them, "Please, try to stay out of his sight! I've seen him shoot several mermaids and leave them to die. He didn't care. Just please, hide!" That's when she saw the other mermaid approaching and was about to shout another warning when the mermaid.... fell asleep. She groaned and sped out to grab her, grasping her arms carefully to pull her to safety as quick as she could.

After hearing the hatch squeek open, jack became puzzled. No gunshots...if it were sharks, he'd kill them for medicinal purposes, if they were mer-people, he should be obeying orders.

Jack sighed and became even more puzzled. A Mix of confusion and anger werent good. Jack broke his zaze and began to head to the depth charge bay...

Brendan's attetion slipped away for a moment as suddenly another mermaid was visible as she dived over him and back into the water. She immediately turned to himself and Seraphim urging them to hide and follow her or else face the Captain wrath! But what she didn't understand was that he was a pro at this, he had stuffed around with the pirates many times, not out of spite but because they were so easy and sometimes more common than customers down bellow. It wasn't just pirates though, anything that traveled along the ocean by boat that he noticed he would amuse himself with some fun. He rolled his eyes as the mermaid swam off and Seraphim was trying to convince him not to go through with it. Perhaps he was getting too ahead of himself, this ship was much larger than the ones he had played pranks on, an experienced captain must be in charge. Even though he had been captured many times before for his rather rare features and what not, he had always escaped easily due to be far too cunning, but when the mermaid had mentioned she had seen the captain shoot and kill merpeople on sight, it did worry him a bit, what if these pirates weren't into the worth of merpeople or selling them and were in fact just killers? Still, that curiosity of his...
"Don't worry Seraphim, I'll take your advice for once." He replied to her with a chuckle, poking his tongue out playfully. "A most devious plan is needed! But first..." The most devilish grin of his formed on his face again "just a peak.." Brendan listened carefully to the voice and followed the direction. He stopped, then most hastily grabbed onto the ship and lifted himself up to get just a little peak inside to see what the people might look like, he should probably remember how much of a beacon his bright orange hair could be though.

When he finally looked on board, he saw only one male, he was checking things that Brendan wasn't familiar with, but he wasn't concentrating on that, he was far too busy staring at the dark haired pirate who was certainly very attractive. Suddenly, he saw another enter the room and his eyes widened with panic at how long he was staring out in the open, quickly he let go and dived back into the ocean. He inhaled deeply, then exhaled, his heart was racing, it was a wonderful thrill. He smiled faintly, laughing off how nervous he had gotten all of a sudden. However he would not forget that guys face, definitely not. He looked different to the other pirates he had usually seen on board ships, this guy looked much more neat and tidy and clean, others looked more rugged, brutish and intense. Not that he didn't mind that look either. He remained just under the water, still right near the boat as he let his hand fall on his heart, he hadn't felt his heart beat this fast in a while, it was fun. "Wooow." Brendan said to himself in awe. Maybe no one had actually entered that room and he was just paranoid, but he swore he thought he heard someone coming, and so he acted on that thought. It would suck if there was no one entering the room that whole time, he could have checked that guy out a bit longer.. God he was such a pervert, male or female, what ever species they may be he was always studying someone, checking them out one way or another.

Edmund had just gotten the hatch open, and could already hear his captain coming down. He kept calm as he could, unholstering his gun and pointing it at the water. Before shooting, he stood ver it, using his shadow as a warning to his sister, which he hoped she got and used to get to safety. Then he pulled the trigger several times, shooting in several somewhat different directions. He then shouted, pretending he hadn't heard his Captain coming down.

"Captain, I think it was mermaids! I didn't see them but it definitely wasn't sharks, they'd be coming back if they were!" He scanned the water with his eyes, looking for any signs of blood, a sign that would show he'd accidentally shot something, "Cap'n, these ones 'er smart, I don't think they're Mer-soldiers."

Nerida rolled her eyes and sighed in exasperation at the merman but... couldn't help but find him a bit amusing. This showed in the amused smile that formed on her lips. "Fine. Go crazy, let 'em at ya." She looked up to the hatch her brother was checking and saw his shadow, he had his gun pointed at the water to "shoot" whatever was there, most definitely as hhis captain had ordered him to. "Okay, actually, listen to me just once!" She continued to pull the sleeping mermaid, whom she had no clue was a princess, with her and swam past the merman, hooking her free arm with his as she did. Just as she touched him she became invisible, making the sleeping mermaid and the bright-haired merman invisible with her. And her timing was lucky, for right when her tail left the danger zone several bullets went through the water.

'Too, close. Way too close,' she thought, looking backto the hatch as she stopped pulling the other merpeople, but kept in contact with them to keep them hidden. Though she didn't know how much longer she could keep it up. And, despite the situation, she pointed an amused question toward the merman, "So, I have to ask, and be honest with me here... which one were you checking out? Because the only two that are on the ship at the moment are my brother and the Captain." She smirked, though the merman wouldn't be able to see it seeing as she was keeping them hidden. And Nerida whispered, because she could hear Edmund shouting above them.

"I Knew it was a sting, drop this into the water" Jack pulled out what looked like a bomb and handed it to him. "shoot to detonate, i have to warn the crew."

Jack sprinted up the stairs and began rining the alarm "All hands on deck!" he shouted. The town exploded with the sounds of footsteps and rattling cages as the crew horded back onto the ship with rum gold and ect. "To arms! prepare a clearing!"

Jack looked over the edge with a flintlock with a line of prepared muskets on either side...

The blue-haired mermaid noticed something flash in her peripheral vision and her begging faltered as she turned her head to carefully investigate the distraction. 'Was that the princess's hair she sees? What is she doing here?! She coughed again and stared at Fynn and tried to remember what she was trying to say. Her rattled nerves usually get the best of her and her already shy persona tends to get more tongue-tied as ever and the princess being close to that rude devil adds to her already rapidly beating heart.

Seraphim grimaced when she saw Fynn poked a tongue at her while she was speechless. She was serious! Something bad could happen if they were to unexpectedly show up in a pirate's ship. She huffed her cheeks as a retort and tried to calm her nerves as she saw her friend haul himself up and peek at the pirates that were on board.

Deciding that something might actually happen if they weren't on their guard, Seraphim took it upon herself to stand watch whilst her companion took his time above the surface. She also took this time to carefully watch the slumbering princess just in case, as well. It would do no good to the kingdom if something were to happen to her. And on her watch too. Her eyes are sharp for a reason.

After a couple of minutes, the orange merman caught her attention as he suddenly dived down and a hand fluttered its way to his chest.
'Were those sparkles in his eyes?!' She immediately thought and quickly hovered over her starstrucked friend. She heard him utter a word of astonishment and she blinked at him.

Wait a minute...

She had seen that look before. Before her parents had died. How her father gazed at her mother and the two would share a look that made the then young girl look away, blushing to the tips of her elven-like ears. That was the look of someone falling in love. Or at least she hoped in this merman's case.. adoration to say the least.

She worriedly waved a hand to his face and seeing him still dazed, sighed and went to the surface, curiosity striking her. To see who the lucky guy the merman had inevitably fallen for, of course. Just like her orange friend, her blue hair was an eye-catcher -something she sometimes loathes since it causes unwanted attention.

Pushing her head towards the surface, she gave herself a few seconds to get use to the air above. It was very different from underwater and her hidden gills at her neck slowly closed as her pathway in her throat dedicated to breathing air from outside the water opened up.

She slowly swam towards the ship and stretched her delicate neck to sneakily peek at the pirates. Nope, not that one. That one's too hairy. The other was all muscle and even the neck isn't seen. Oh! The other pirate doesn't even have teeth! And then there was the pirate she had come face-to-face with. She frowned and willed her head to turn to another direction and to search harder..... until her eyes landed on another man.

"Oh, fish guts." She cursed to herself. Oh, yes. Fynn is on his way to Love-Ville and there's no going back. She gasped rather loudly and was surprised at herself. She immediately dunked herself underwater, for fear someone had heard her and reached for Fynn's arms, he was still sporting a dreamy look on his face.

"Sir Fynn, we really have to get you out of here. Now. You can check on...him when everything's all calm, alright?" She coaxed her friend. She understands her friend's interest on the man. She was after all, a female herself. And a young guppy at that! But she respects her dear companion and will try her best in helping him in.. Uhh. In whatever he's planning. As long as she's with him. She worries over him like a mother, she knows. But he's almost like family and she doesn't want anything to happen to him.

Still in a daze, the voices around him were all muffled until he felt something grab his arm. Snapping out of his little day dream, which he seemed to be doing a lot of lately at the wrong times. One mermaid on his right arm, Seraphim on his left. Brendan looked at them with a puzzled expression on his face until suddenly they were invisible. His face lit up with fascination until the bullets just barely missed them. He pulled Seraphim in closer to him, worried that she might get hurt, he wouldn't be able to live with that as it would have been his fault. "Perhaps it is time to leave." Brendan spoke up with a short laugh, smiling sheepishly; that spray of bullets certainly made his heart race as adrenaline rushed through him.

Once they had moved a safe distance away, both females started asking questions- wait was that the Princess? Okay that's random, shaking his head he concentrated on one thing at a time. "Your brother and the Captain huh? Um, I'm assuming the dark haired neat and tidy looking one is your.. brother? Wait your brother?!" He wasn't sure why but he felt a bit embarrassed talking about it. Sure he joked about it with others and teased other merfolk when they might be attracted to someone but when it was him it was different, it was something he usually did alone, although it certainly made him happy to be around more people that he enjoyed the company of. Aside all that, he was confused as to how the human looking pirate could possible be related to a mermaid, unless it was a brother - sister relationship between the two. Perhaps they knew each other and saw each other this way. Oh hang on that was good news for him! He could ask all sorts of questions about him! While awaiting her reply all these thoughts ran through his mind and his face lit up with much happiness as a big smile formed on his face.

Brendan turned to Seraphim with a soft smile "thanks for looking out for me, and yeah you're right, it is best to come back later to check on him when we not trying to be hunted down by crazy pirates haha! I swear they're so paranoid, they need to live a little." Well maybe they were as wild as you Brendan, perhaps just not this one pirate. He hoped that if he ever got to speak with the pirate, he wouldn't try to shoot or capture him. Either way he knew there was a chance to escape, it would just be a shame.

Brendan turned to look back at the ship as all he could see now was the bottom of it from afar. He watched as a spray of bullets with released into the ocean, still trying to hit them it seemed. He sighed at how nasty that would have been if they were still lingering in that area. The Merman then just remembered, the Princess. He looked back at the mermaid he was unfamiliar with then looked at the sleeping Princess. "Uhh, why is the Princess asleep? Did you knock her out?" Brendan asked jokingly with a grin. "Also I didn't quite catch your name, I'm Brendan and this here is my friend Seraphim." He smiled as he pointed to Seraphim with his thumb. Where would he be without these girls? They certainly saved his ass far too many times, he was such a dreamer, off with the fairies.

Hana's eyes opened slowly, as she felt someone pillung her by the hand. She could see herself surrounded by several mermaids, including the ones she saw earlier. Hana felt tempted to fall asleep again, but rubbed her eyes and looked at the rest.
"Hey. What's up?" is all she said. Hana would ask where she was, why was she pulled away, were they under attack, for how long has she been asleep, but felt that a simple 'What's up' would get her a proper answer. Why did her father make her go somewhere and be productive when she was so tired?

"Let's hope Hana is useful right now." Ronan thought to himself. Soon he spotted a pirate ship. His blood rushed in his veins, his pulse raced and his desire to fight started burning from the inside. It was the crew with the captain who believed the mermaids took his treasure. The same one who kidnapped mermaids and sold them to humans like they're things. He wanted the whole crew dead, they were pirates after all. And this was war. Ronan pointed his trident at the ship and started swimming in that direction.
