(1x1 between Lorawr and Gladis) Where's the line between man and monster? Does the beauty really give in to the beast?

Introduction

The Beast and the Beauty

I can see her. She's there. She's right there. She's so close, and I can smell her. Why do I do this to myself? Why do I have to be near her all the time? I get no rest from it. Even when I'm here, and she's there, I ache for her. To touch her, and hold her, and own her. But she doesn't even look at me. She can't even see me. And when I'm resting at night, I ache for her more. I crave her, and she fuels my dreams and my nightmares. I can't eat, I can't sleep, I can't even watch the news. Not that I do any of those things anyway, but it's nice to have the option.

It's been two years, and one hundred and nine days since the first time I saw her. It's time though, I think, to take her. I have to have her. She'll resent me at first, but after, she'll love me. She has to love me, because I love her.

ob·ses·sion [uhb-sesh-uhn]
noun
1. the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc.
2. the idea, image, desire, feeling, etc., itself.
3. the state of being obsessed.
4. the act of obsessing.

This roleplay takes place in an unnamed American town, between an ordinary young woman and a man. Sadie is an ordinary girl. She's eighteen, averagely intelligent, and average in appearances. She's nothing special. But there's something about her that the man can't help but fixate on. It's almost an obsession. And this roleplay takes place in the house that he takes her in. One day, Sadie is at a friends party, and the next morning she wakes up in an unfamiliar house. There, she is the captive of the man she comes to call 'The Beast', but he never reveals himself to her. Not once does she get so much of a glimpse of his face, and he chooses to communicate with her through a myriad of letters, gifts, and notes. In this beautiful and majestic house, Sadie wants for nothing, except privacy, as she soon finds out that in this place, The Beast can always see and hear her.

Where's the line between man and monster?

In this roleplay there will be two characters, Sadie, and 'The Beast'.

Levi watched her contently as she walked over to the fountain and sat down on the edge, the look of admiration on her features warming his very heart. It felt good for once being praised for your hard work, even if it was just a smile, a look on another persons face that told him they liked it. It was so long ago he had gotten this kind of reward- mainly because Smile wasn't much company and neither was the master. Although he knew the master could be kind and even pleasant at times... very few occasions... most of the time he was everything but pleasant. Levi had a tendency to keep away from him as much as possible, thus running from himself. Perhaps that was the best way to describe him... constantly on the run from himself.

"Thank you. You care for the whole garden yourself? It's really...really beautiful. I never had a garden like this. If I did, I think I'd spend all my time in it."

The smile spreading across his features was brighter than ever before, his eyes alight with appreciation of her words. Levi had always loved beauty, always appreciated being surrounded by it. Even if the house he now loved him truly was not beautiful when the illusion no longer lasted- even if the garden too returned to its true state during those hours... simply were hideous, cold and scary... Levi still loved it when he was surrounded by beauty. He had always done so. Not even Leviathan could deny their love for beauty... even if he found himself to be hideous, both inside and out. It was true that he had cared for the garden himself, it was not a lie at all... but it was still an illusion, for in reality nothing could grow there anymore. Everything was gray...dead.. and without hope. He hated this place so bitterly during night time- when the spell was broken and the truth of the monster was revealed.

"Well, you do have a garden now..." Levi said softly, tilting his head to the side after she'd accepted the rose as he watched her with soft, kind, mismatched eyes, "this is your garden... and you may do whatever you like with it. If you would so wish, I could teach you how to care for a garden. Of course, if you do not... I would understand, naturally."

"Is there a bird table? I always wanted a table to feed the wildlife at."

"No," Levi replied after a moment of hesitation, "there... is not. Would you like there to be one?" he asked curiously.

She had her own garden? The brightening of her eyes gave away her unhindered joy. It was really beautiful, and she loved everything about it. It was the most wonderful thing anyone had ever given to her, and it was definitely something that she wasn't likely to forget. Sadie bit her lower lip a little and looked around. She couldn't stop looking at the garden, and the more she looked, the more she saw. She noticed how the borders of each little patch of flowers was created by a tiny white picket fence, and how perfectly pruned the rose bushes were. Benches had been placed under trees where it was shady, and the leaves were almost emerald in color. It was like a garden of gems.

"No, there...is not. Would you like there to be one?"

Sadie looked up at Levi and smiled warmly at him. Did she really want one? She thought she did. Even if she herself couldn't fly out of here, it might be nice to see some creatures that could. She didn't want Levi to go to any trouble for her, and she certainly didn't want to seem demanding. And yet, she may as well try to enjoy herself here if she was going to be trapped. Sadie hesitated for a moment before she slowly nodded.

"I...I think I would like one. I've always liked looking at the birds. But...you shouldn't go out of your way to get one," Sadie admitted after a moment.

"If it truly is your wish, there would be no trouble for me granting it. However, considering we have a cat living around the household... I would think it through carefully. There is a reason as to why I never got one."

"Oh...a cat?" Sadie paused, hesitating. She'd not been here long, but the only cat she had seen was down in the basement, with the children. She'd never had a cat either, but she knew what they could be like with prey-like animals. "I don't know then. I think it would be nice to have one, but not if the birds would just be killed..."

Sadie looked up at him, and smiled. In some ways, Levi reminded her of a cat. At times, he could be distant, but there were also occasions when he was warm and almost playful. He reminded her of an abused stray, having found itself in a warm safe environment, but still wary. She liked that about him. Though despite the rough times that he had experienced, it was clear that despite his hesitance, he was still a kind and gentle person, hiding his sadness beneath professionalism. Sadie felt a little sorry for him. They were both in the same boat. Impulsively, she flung her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly. Her body pressed for a moment against his, before she pulled back.

"Thank you, so much. For everything"

Sadie spent the rest of the day with Levi, and she had to admit, she enjoyed it. After agreeing to get a table for the birds, despite the risk from the cat, Levi had taken her back inside to give her a tour of the house. They never once bumped into anyone else, and it was silent except for their talk and laughter, but somehow, Sadie didn't notice. Levi showed her both floors, taking her through to the library, which Sadie completely fell in love with, and then a large conference room. Levi explained that the room didn't see much use, and that there were many rooms which no one had even entered for years. The lower floor was made up of comfortable sitting rooms, the library and conference rooms, the dining room and the kitchen, and a luxuriously warm conservatory.

When he took her up the stairs to the second story, Levi revealed that it was mostly bedrooms and en suite bathrooms. He showed her down a long and dark hall, after Sadie had begged to be shown, and showed her where the master's rooms were. He had a study, bathroom and bedroom all to himself, and the door was locked from the inside. Sadie thought that the area outside the door was colder than the rest of the house, and both she and Levi felt uncomfortable stood there, so they swiftly moved on. He showed her a music room, and a balcony, and finally the stairs that led up to the attic. Levi advised her not to take those stairs, and though she was curious, Sadie told him that she wouldn't go up them.

After the tour, they returned back downstairs, where the smell of a cooked meal greeted them. Sadie had no idea who had cooked it, but she had learned not to ask when it came to things like this. Instead, she realized how hungry the day had made her, and tucked in to the wonderfully prepared meal. The vegetables were cooked to perfection, as was the lamb. She ate more than she would have in a whole day at home, where solid meals were few and far between, but she didn't even notice as she was too engrossed in conversation with Levi. They didn't talk about deep or important things. They barely even talked about each other. And yet their conversation was fluid and effortless, and it became clear that they got along exceptionally well.

Sadie sighed slowly and leaned back in her chair, looking across the table at Levi. She was full, and the warm food made her sleepy and lethargic. It was a feeling of blissful ease and safety.

"Thank you so much for showing me around today, Levi," She told him with a small smile, before yawning gently and raising a hand to cover it, "At least there's a smaller chance I wont get lost now"

"Thank you, so much. For everything"

Levi smiled slightly, tilting his head. "You're welcome, miss Sadie... I am still sorry for all the trouble we have caused you, though. You were not meant to see, hear or experience any of that..." he said quietly, softly, glancing down and scuffing his feet nervously before glancing up at her again and smiling once more. "I shall give you a bird table anyway. There surly will be a way to keep Madness away from the birds... don't you agree? He is a kind cat, after all, and easily distracted." he said thoughtfully. That reminded him- Madness still had to be fed. He better get it done now soon or both Smile and the Master would be very displeased.

The rest of the day went by in a flash. Never before had Levi enjoyed himself so much, and seeing Sadie enjoy herself warmed his heart even further. Never even once was there another incident and it seemed Smile went out of his way to stay away from them. Levi had only sighted him once, and that was in the library, where he had made sure to hide himself from Sadie's view. Now, this was no surprise at all. Smile loved reading and would usually spend his time in the library. This also meant that if Sadie went there often, chances of her running into him were rather big. Levi wasn't sure if he was happy about that or not. He didn't wish for anything strange happening again.

Showing Sadie where the masters rooms were was most uncomfortable of all, in Levi's opinion. It was not because he feared his master, because he most certainly did not. Or well, perhaps he did slightly. However, he also knew that the master was gentler and less of a monster than he considered himself. He was a monster, do not misunderstand what I am saying... but perhaps not as bad as he himself thought. It was just the masters mood that made Levi feel uncomfortable- when he got angry or even when he was sad. Those sudden bursts of rage that often ended in him uncontrollably inflicting pain on either himself or Levi... although Levi supposed that also meant himself. After all, they were all three sides of one singularity.

Dinner was as pleasant as the rest of the day had been. To his surprise, for once he had not been the one responsible to making it. Even if he was unsure of how it had gotten there or who had done it, he had a faint idea of what could have happened and who was responsible for it. Perhaps the master had left his room when they did not notice? Levi didn't know and he decided not to dwell on it too much. He could always ask the master later, when the light had gone out and their guest was asleep. Other than that the conversation Levi and Sadie held was pleasant, and for once he forgot all about his worries and pains. There were just him and Sadie... and the whole conversation simply felt causal and... everything was so normal. It brought him back to the days when his life too had been like this. It brought him back to the days with Emily... before she... passed away. Emily had once upon been his wife... but that was many, many, many years ago.

"Thank you so much for showing me around today, Levi."

The servant glanced up from his plate as Sadie spoke, a small smile spreading across his lips. "You are most welcome, Sadie dearest... I do hope you enjoyed yourself." he paused and trailed off, glancing at the clock on the wall. Sighing softly, he realized there was only one hour left to midnight. Had they really had such a wonderful time together he had forgotten time? It seemed so. Standing up, Levi smiled at her softly.

"It seems, miss Sadie, it is time for us to retire... there will be a new day tomorrow, after all." he smiled and offered her his hand, feeling slightly nervous as the time began ticking away. "Please follow me," he said before pushing away his chair and standing up, gesturing for her to do so.

Levi led her up the grand staircase and towards her room, forcing himself to keep acting causal despite the pressure he felt. "Do remember the rules, understood? And please, please... don't attempt to break them again," he added softly, opening her door for her before bowing.

"I bid you goodnight, my lady... sweet dreams," he said gently, reaching out his hand to gently touch her cheek... before quickly withdrawing it again, looking down sadly. "Goodnight," he repeated softly and then started making his way away, down the corridor and towards the masters bedroom.

Once he reached the end of the corridor Levi hesitated before knocking on the masters door. As a way of reply, he heard a soft click as the door unlocked. The servant opened the door and glanced inside.

The room was drenched in darkness, and therefor making out what was inside was quite troublesome. However, Levi could see the outline of something large and furry and the sound of heavy breathing could be heard. It was laying pushed up again the wall of the empty room and the chains around its wrists and ankles glittered slightly in the moonlight that managed to sipper into the room through the window.

"Good evening, Master..." Levi said softly, noticing the small figure curled up again the monster, his thin, pale fingers gripping thick, long black fur. The tousle of blond hair was evident in the dim light and Levi couldn't help but smile weakly. "Did he have nightmares?" he asked gently, stepping over to them.

A large, blood red eye opened and regarded Levi for a moment.

When did we last sleep properly without being plagued by nightmares, Levi?

Levi could hear in his hand. The servant sighed and leaned down, carefully picking up little sleeping Smile and cradling him in his arms once before starting towards the door.

"That is true... I shall bring him to his room. Goodnight, master..." Levi said softly, quietly, before exiting and carefully closing the door behind himself. Holding Smile carefully, he started making his way towards the child's room.

An hour had passed. It was exactly midnight when suddenly an ear piercing scream echoing through the halls of the mansion. This was not the scream of a child or even an adult. This was the shout of a monster, a scream for help... a scream of agony. Shortly after, there was a new sound echoing through the corridors. The sound of chains scraping against the wooden floor... the sound of heavy breathing... and finally, the sound of human yet insane laughter.
