Despite it all, the seeming failure, there was still a wild card no one had expected. She wasn't supposed to be at the battle, she was supposed to be safely tucked away somewhere else, but K couldn't resist the call to action, knowing that today would be the deciding factor of the rest of their lives. It had been easy to sneak in, wearing the armor with the attached mask to get through the fray. Once the door to the wall had opened to allow the soldiers to flood the battle ground. K had slipped in seamlessly among them, going around the onslaught of danger and bullets towards a tank at the very back of the front lines. No, not Raven's tank, the extra tank, the medical tank. It would be vital considering how many injuries there were and K had a sneaking suspicion that most of the big fighters on both sides would end up inside of it. Switching uniforms came easily, all K had to do was locate a dead soldier around her size and change outfits in the freezing blizzard.

Okay, so not so easy, but with her face in a mask no one could tell it was her and so she struck out in the haze, reaching the medical tank and creeping down the stairwell. Killing the driver was the next step, there was no one else at the wheel. Now all K had to do was lay in wait. It wasn't too long until Xavier arrived, depositing Yui and Ronan before flashing away again, then returning what was probably seconds later with Leo, their trust doctor, and Mizuki. Almost instantly Leo got to work, there were plenty of injuries in need of fixing but he began with the most dire one, Mizuki. He used Yui's blood, taking a sample of it to synthesize and produce the medicine Mizuki needed for her heart to stabilize. Once that was done he got to work on the others, Ronan was bleeding out badly, he had a nice sized gap in his stomach from where Aria had punched through him. He was lucky though, he could live with one Kidney, albeit his body would work harder.

Yui needed no fixing up aside from the placement of band aids over bumps and bruises. Leo was going to administer some adrenaline to wake her back up when K stood. "The boss wants her to rest," she said, using a filter to disguise her voice. Leo nodded, setting the vial back down and going to work on Xavier's ankle. "There, all done." Leo seemed a bit robotic, which was ironic considering that he was a robot. Xavier nodded, disappearing to head back out onto the battle field. K took the controls, there was a large breach in the wall and she intended to drive straight through it to take these guys to their side. She would swing by to pick up Aria on the way and if she was lucky she would get the chance to run Raven over. The two girls were locked in combat, Aria blind and bleeding, Raven cackling gleefully. Her back was turned, this was K's chance.

She hit Raven from behind, opening up the hatch to assist Aria inside. K went over to Leo, jabbing a sticker onto his skin. It was an electronic patch that instantly made his eyes change and he strode over to the controls. "I'm going to finish this," K said, she wasn't going to kill Raven, no, it would be much more fun to watch her suffer behind bars. The slow rumbling of the tank was what made Yui wake up. She blinked slowly, feeling drowsy. Yui stiffened, the sudden jab of a needle in her neck making her slump down once more. "Sorry, but you can't wake up yet," Leo said, taking the helm once more to meet Ally on the other side of the wall. No one bothered the tank, they seemed to think that Raven's tank was purposely going to the other side, possibly to lead them into what they thought was victory.

Despite having the advantage, despite the Wall Bismark being broken, Raven's army couldn't accomplish anything without their leader at the spearhead of the operation. The dark empress was knocked out in the chaos of the battle and no one knew the wiser. With the entirety of the leaders behind Raven's army out of order, Ally's sniping from up top was all they needed to secure the victory. One by one, Raven's family was put into through the purifier machine, which meant about five days of hell as your body was forcibly cleansed of the one thing it thought it needed so badly in order to live. This darkness was a harmful, horrible substance, all it did was make things worse, so no matter how hard it was to listen to their screams, they didn't have a choice.

After the purification, a very pacified and self hating Harka Shoku was placed in a very high security international prison, interred in Germany due to the symbolism of being locked up in the country that she failed to take over. America and Israel were quick to claim that they were mind controlled by Raven and any territory they captured was given back to those that owned it prior to this, and no further reparations were asked of them. At the trial, Haruka was quiet for most of it. "Yes, I confess, I had everyone under my control." She told the highest court, purposely avoiding the gaze of Annette Kirouac, the full name of the woman who called herself K. Was it really a surprise to anyone that such an influential woman was a member of the International High Court? It was no wonder Sanctum searched for someone of her skill. "Well then, by unanimous vote, Haruka Shoku will be behind bars until the day she dies." And that was that.

The first and perhaps only visitor was Kirouac herself, who grinned at her like an eagle bearing down on her weakened and downed prey. Raven was gone, all that was left was a broken Haruka, resigned to spending the rest of her likely long life here, these four walls would become the only world she knew. "And with this, all will be well." K said cryptically and Haruka narrowed her eyes at her enemy. She was glad that her mind was her own, that she was stopped, but she didn't like that K was on the loose to do as she wished now. "You won't target Yui again, will you?" K shook her head then with surprising sincerity. "No, there's no reason to. As long as Yui herself doesn't want to become a Goddess, my job is done." She leered at the girl behind the bars. "Of course we'll have our best engineers work on a way to replace the light seed with synthetic light, so that no one, Yui included, will ascend."

K left then, leaving Haruka alone. How long would she spend in here until she went insane from all the isolation? But if she wasn't in here, she'd be dragged to her public execution by the people, she was the most hated person in the world now. No doubt there were riots breaking out, outraged that money was being spent on keeping her safe instead of killing her like the monster she was. "This is the rest of my life then." Haruka mumbled to herself, looking dead already. She lost her free will when she succumbed to the call of the darkness, and even free from the darkness, she was still trapped. But her mind was her own and if anything, at least that was something to be happy about.

Yui wasn't sure where she was when she awoke, all she knew for certain was that she was in excruciating pain. Her body felt as though it were being torn in two, her light bearing mark throbbing every few seconds as darkness was filtered out of her blood stream and light returned to her body. Yui couldn't stand the pain, she cried and whimpered, screamed until her throat was raw and thrashed against the bindings until finally, the door opened, Leo slipped inside. "Good morning," he spoke calmly as he began to take her vitals. Yui whimpered, withdrawing from his touch. "I'm sorry, I know it hurts, but it's a necessary evil," he didn't say much more, but it was obvious that he hated being in here as much as Yui did. "Just a little longer, alright? I'll give you something for the pain," that something didn't do much aside from send Yui into sleep-induced nightmares.

By the time it was over she was shaking, so used to the pain that so much as a gust of wind would make her whimper. Four days of this was a lot for a little girl, four days of nightmares and being unable to move. "It's over," Leo assured her, checking her mark. The lotus blossom was a pure white, sparkling clean once again. "You're safe here, it's okay." He undid the straps around her wrists and ankles, helping ease Yui into a sitting position. "Hurts," she mumbled, rubbing at her raw wrists. Leo wrapped them in bandages, tending to the cuts on her ankles as well. "The others are still being treated," Leo said quietly. "But Ally's waiting for you outside," he opened up the door, helping Yui into a wheelchair as it was too soon for her to be walking. Ally was in the hall, waiting for her. "Yui!" Yui flinched, moving away from the hug.

"Where am I?" She asked, her throat raw from screaming. "You're at a private hospital in Shinjuku," Yui noticed that the hallway was heavily guarded, soldiers in strange armor positioned at every entrance. "Come on, let's get out of here." Ally wheeled Yui right out of the hospital and to an awaiting car. There were guards flanking them on either side, making sure Yui couldn't be seen between them as photographers dashed and tried to take their picture, tried to move through the formation to catch a glimpse. "Don't mind them," Ally said quietly, loading Yui into a car seat in the back. The car jolted forward, Yui flinching again at the sudden movement. Her last memory was of that cell below ground, of Raven promising that she would finally kill her. "You're safe," Ally said, stroking Yui's hair.

"She's not going to hurt you anymore," Ally drew Yui close to her, or as close as she could in the car seat. "How did you get away?" Ally stayed quiet, some things were best kept secret. "It's not important," she spoke at last, "what matters is that you're safe now." There were a similar crowd of photographers and news casters outside of the Vorkov building. Allyana opened the door, helping Yui back into the wheelchair before wheeling her inside. Yui shivered at the cold, she was wearing nothing but a thin hospital gown and a blanket Ally had given her. Yui winced, her head suddenly assaulted by pain. Ally took notice, she pushed a little dial on the wheelchair that sent a sedative into Yui's port. Yui leaned back, the world seeming funny and slow. Ally didn't want to be the one to tell her about it all, she didn't want to have to see Yui's reaction as she learned what she had become and the fact that she would be put on trial in a week.

Raven's heart dropped when she saw it, when she saw that unmistakable face. Mizuki had come, looking frailer than ever, her last heart attack nearly sent her past the edge to where no one could save her. She had just woken up and she insisted to be allowed in, as one of the heroes that saved the world. K was with her, too, K was the one wheeling her in. "You have a visitor." K said in a sneaky sort of voice. "Haruka, a girl named Mizuki would like to see you." Haruka didn't want to see anyone, she just wanted to stew and suffer in silence, she didn't want anyone to come and rub it all in, to make it worse. She didn't deserve to see anyone she loved ever again, especially Mizu, not after how she violated her so many times.

Mizu was hooked to a machine that was built into her wheelchair it seemed, something that continuously pumped light into her system through the spine. It was as much a part of her as Haruka's railgun once had been. That railgun was now, of course, taken and her arm was a limp useless thing with the nerves torn out. "Why... are you... here?" Haruka asked in a trembling, depressed voice. "Lots of reasons." Mizu said with a soft smile. "I'm dying." She said and that didn't surprise anyone. "And I don't want to get a transplant. I'm happy, if I get the operation and live longer, I might not get to die happy." Mizu had accepted her fate, she wasn't going to regret it. She seemed at peace with what she decided and Raven forced the tears back, this wasn't her decision, it was Mizu's.

"I made a wish at the make a wish thing." Mizuki grinned then despite her pale pallor. "To gamble with the members of the International Court. Guess what?" If anything, the dying girl looked positively joyous. "I won, of course, so I'm an honorary member of the International court now. I missed your trial, but I'll get to see everyone else's, and I'll get to have a say in each one." Of course, if she wasn't one of the heroes of the Wall Bismark, they wouldn't have allowed this. But that still didn't make sense, why did Haruka need to know about this? She was saddened, it wasn't because of love, it was because of business.

That's right, how could there possibly be love between the two, after all that she did? "Haruka Shoku, I summon you as a witness to the Bismark Trials." Mizuki spoke formally, like a civil official rather than a girlfriend. "You better make sure Yui and everyone don't get punished for what you made them do. You won't let that happen, right, you won't let them take the fall?" Haruka shook, she just wanted to rot, she didn't want to have to face anyone ever, ever again. "You don't have the right to refuse the summons." Mizu spoke with cold authority. "I'm giving you a chance. You can't make up for your wrongs, but you got them in this mess. This is your only chance to do one kind thing to them before you're locked away for good and we move on and leave you behind. Don't waste it, okay?"

How could someone speak like that with such a friendly smile on her face?

"What about Ronan and Xavier?" Yui asked, her voice trembling slightly as Ally helped her into the bath. "I couldn't get them out," Ally replied quietly. Ronan, Xavier, and Damian were going to be tried as adults. Yui was the only one Ally had been allowed to take out of the hospital, Ally had appealed to the court by justifying the fact that Yui was a child and keeping her in isolation could have detrimental effects on her mental health. Many were pleading temporary insanity as justification for following Raven, others still pledged fealty and were quickly executed as a danger to the future of Japan. Ally's Father, Vorkov, had been elected as temporary Emperor, possibly full-time depending on how he navigated these next few weeks of stormy seas. "Are they going to kill them?" Yui seemed so small and weak, it was a wonder how this little thing had managed to kill so many. "Yui, there's something I need to tell you," Ally scratched the back of her head, there was no one else here to break the news.

She helped Yui into her pajamas and then into bed before telling her all that had happened, figuring it was best if Yui found out from her and not word of mouth or some idiot reporter that tried to question her. "You're going to hear a lot of different things these next few days and I want you to know what's true and what's not. You were under Raven's control," Ally had her hand over Yui's. "At first she just wanted you to be happy, then she realized she was wasting your potential and she... she changed your mind, she made you have this itch to kill." Yui felt sick, it was exactly what she had never wanted to happen. "So all of those people are dead because of me?" Her eyes stung with tears, Yui was up most of the night crying. Whenever Eventually Ally used her light bearing ability to put Yui to sleep, figuring she would need her rest for the trial.

The next morning came all too soon. Yui felt dread in every sense of the word when Ally woke her up, helping her out of bed and into something presentable for the trial. "Ally," Yui looked up at the girl who had been taking care of her. "Do you hate me?" Ally was taken aback. "I'm a murderer, I deserve to go to jail." Ally shook her head, kneeling down to Yui's height. "Yui, you are a victim, Raven manipulated you, she tried to erase everything that you are to become something she wanted. You had no free will," she pulled Yui into a hug. "I could never hate you," Ally tied the bow at the back of the dress and the two girls bundled up in their coats before heading outside, where the security team was waiting to escort them down to the car. Yui's stomach continued to turn in knots until they pulled up to the courthouse.

It seemed as though the whole of Japan had shown up for today and then some. Yui wanted to throw up, there were people on either side, some chanting for her death, others to free the child. Ally hustled them inside, not wanting them to influence Yui. The courtroom was large and opposing, the jury a mixed group of men and women with stony faces. Yui swallowed hard, taking a seat behind one of the tables. "Yui, I'm going to be representing you," a tall man said, looking down at her. He was wearing a charcoal suit and a smart pair of glasses. "Yui, this is a family friend of mine, if anyone can get you off, it's him." Ally said with full confidence before taking a seat behind the stands. "I'd like to call my first witness to the stand, Haruka Shoku," Yui's lawyer stood, adjusting his jacket. Yui felt dread sink in, she didn't think she was ready to hear about all of the things she had done.

Yui's trial was the first of them and Haruka Shoku was called up to the stand by the lawyer, a certain man going by the surname Ekomov, a friend of Viktor's and former Prometheus agent. Raven resisted all it took to look at Yui, she couldn't bear it, because it was all her fault that Yui had to suffer, it was all her fault that this was happening at all. Mizuki was one of the three in charge of this whole trial, as was Kirouac, and third was a man Haruka didn't recognize, he seemed happy to be called Strauss. "Haruka Shoku, can you describe to us,, for the jury, what your abilities are like? Without removing the inhibitor." So this was his strategy? Hopefully it would work because otherwise they would be in trouble.

"Sure." Haruka said quietly, frowning. "But first, Court, may I say something of my own?" Kirouac and Mizuki both gave her permission before Strauss could say a word, making it a two against one. "You may speak." Mizuki said, her voice not revealing any of her secret intentions she must have been spinning this very moment. So Haruka looked the jury in the eye, each and every one of them. "I'm sure you all have to know this." She said as emotionlessly as possible. "Aria Matsuri, one of the Heroes of Bismark. She's in the audience, and with my in here and Yui with an inhibitor, Aria's the single most powerful person in the world. I'm not saying this as a threat, but as a promise. If her precious Yui is locked up, a mere child, you'll look back on my chaos and realize how lucky you were that it wasn't Aria who rampaged instead."

Once that was done Raven told all about how her powers worked, Mizuki said with a lofty smile that they should show them an example so that they all knew what it was like. "Since the main focus of the trial will be on Haruka's powers, we need the Jury to understand to the fullest what it is. We have purifiers to remove the seeds afterwards, so please, go ahead, Shoku." Strauss shook his head then. "I can't allow that, for obvious reasons." But then K grinned a sneaky grin in response to that. "But Strauss, don't you think the best way for the Jury to truly have a fair judgment is that they know precisely what Shoku's seeds can do?" Strauss was once again overruled and Haruka did it, making the members of the Jury dance and sway and tell inappropriate jokes about llamas and frogs until Strauss applied the purifiers. It was just minor seeding so there was no pain.

"And now they know the helplessness of being seeded." Mizuki seemed to be taking absolute control of the court then. "Jury! I'm a dying girl, I don't want to waste more of my life in a sham of a trial. Now that you know what it's like to be seeded, you know you had absolutely no control of your actions, correct?" The jury didn't say anything but Mizu knew the game was already over. It was won the moment she beat the other Judge in gambling, meaning she and K would be able to dictate the course of the trial. "Let's make this quick. Justice Strauss wants to lock a child up for life for being manipulated, for being forced to do horrible things, and no matter how much she tried to cry and scream and to fight, it was impossible to break out of the control." She grinned and K rolled her eyes, no longer taking this seriously. "Why are we wasting time trying a victim?"

Strauss slammed his gavel in anger. "Be quiet." He nearly barked. "We have more witnesses, we have-" But Mizuki sighed, having already seen this move hours ago. "They don't really matter. It was Raven who ordered the deaths of the families of the witnesses. Your witnesses, sir, their losses are truly tragic, but Yui was a tool, she had no control. You don't blame a tool, you blame the one wielding it. It's silly to put a gun up on trial, isn't it? While Yui was corrupted and seeded, she didn't have a mind, she was just like a gun." Mizuki had total and utter control and only the stress lines on her heart monitor and the bags under her eyes betrayed how many scenarios Mizuki had practiced all week for, how many different moves Strauss could make to try and beat her, and Mizuki planning fifty different plots for each thing he might try to do.

With this amount of preparation, it was impossible for the Gambling Queen to lose.

So then the Jury decided unanimously that Yui was innocent and K decided that the best therapy to help the child would be dream therapy, with Allyana assigned to give it to her, since no one else really could. "A poor child forced to do things against her will." Mizuki fake cried. "How could anyone ever want to hurt her? Only a truly awful person would try to pin the blame on her!" These tears were absolutely fake, deep down she felt a feeling of thrill at having won a game at this level. And that was when her head slumped tiredly, her heart was beating too fast, too erratically. But there was nothing to regret, nothing whatsoever.

Yui wasn't sure what she expected Haruka to look like, proud, arrogant, still resisting, but no, she came quietly and sat down, wearing the prison jumpsuit with a large inhibitor. Yui had a small inhibitor around her wrist, one she had woken up with and was certain she would never be allowed to take off. The hardest part of the trial, Yui thought, was the fact that Haruka wouldn't even look at her. It was as though Yui was beneath her, or perhaps she was so ashamed of what she had done she couldn't bring herself to look at the girl she had hurt. Yui's stomach squelched, she hadn't been asked to say a word. Haruka demonstrated what her ability could do, she confirmed that it took away all free movement and thought. Mizuki likened the trial to trying to put a gun on the stands, as that was all Yui had been, a weapon for Haruka to use. This brought many questions to mind, ones that Yui hated thinking.

Had Haruka ever seen her as a sister? Or had Yui simply been a means to an end? Yui's tiny body was shaking again, tears welling up in her eyes as she was cleared of all charges and ordered mandatory therapy. Ally appeared by her side to guide her out, the security flanking them on all sides to protect the new Empress's daughter and the little girl whose name the crowd was screaming for death. No doubt all of those protesters had been effected by Yui's killing spree, they had lost family and friends, neighbors and children. "Don't listen to them, you're innocent Yui, no matter what they say." Yui swallowed hard and tried to nod, feeling her eyes well up with tears again. "Ronan's going on trial tomorrow," before they got in the car, they turned to the left of the courthouse and went in through a back door where Leo was. "Yui, I hate to do this, but I need some of your blood for Mizuki."

Yui said nothing as she held out her small arm, Leo being gentle as he extracted a few vials full of blood. "There, all done," the two went on their way once more, back to the car that was mercifully warm while the late February air was so brisk. "What happens now?" Yui finally asked, her voice a warble. "Now we go home, we rebuild, we heal." Yui leaned her head against the window, pressing her cheek against the cool glass. "What's going to happen to the others?" Ally seemed to think about this. "Once the boys are cleared of charges, I guess they'll go to supplementary classes to finish high school, then college." Then they would get jobs and find love and get married, have children of their own Yui supposed. "I decided to finish high school, I got my GED. Since my Dad's the Emperor, we needed someone to take over the business, so I stepped up." Ally grinned, hooking a thumb as she pointed to herself.

"Mizuki's now a judge, so I guess she's got that going for her. Aria is still in therapy for her eyes to recover and Haruka... she's going to be locked away for the rest of her life." What was Yui supposed to do now? Was she expected to just move on? "You and I are going to be together for a while, they put you in my care." Ally was likely the sanest and safest option for Yui to return home with. "We'll do some dream therapy, I'm gonna have you keep a dream log so that when the judge comes to check up on us we can prove you've been doing it." Yui nodded, hoping she had maintained her ability to write and read. "But I'm not going to school?" Ally shook her head, "no, I'm afraid you won't be able to." It would be incorrect to say that Yui didn't feel pained by those words.

"Court is dumb." Mizuki decided. Once it was just her and K she allowed herself to put a hand on her chest, feeling as if she were about to start seizing at any second. "W-we should just... give her a new identity, a disguise!" She nodded then, trying to think up of lots of different possibilities. "Yui deserves better than this." She had overworked herself running over all the scenarios over and over and over again until just thinking about court gave her a headache ans nausea. Seeing Haruka looking like a kicked dog didn't help either. Being controlled by the darkness was just as bad as being seeded, you lost the ability to control yourself, the darkness forced out all of your worst parts until your good parts no longer exist. Haru deserved better but not even Mizu could save her. The world, they needed a scapegoat.

When Leo came with the filtered blood Mizu stared at it and shook her head. She was back in the hospital, back in her prison, she didn't want this, she didn't want Yui's blood. "No, I don't, don't give it to me, Leo." She glared at him weakly, the dizziness and crushing chest pain already beginning. "Haru's stuck in prison forever." Mizu's usually stunningly beautiful violet eyes shone with sadness and loneliness as she hugged herself. "The girl I love will be remembered as a monster, and no one will remember the real her anymore." She stared miserably at Leo, who was going to force her to continue existing in this world. "It's painful, please, I can't do this." Leo didn't know what to do, what to say.

"I want to hold her." Mizuki confessed. "I want to hug her, to tell her that I love her, that I'll always love her, but I can't. I can't do any of that or else I won't keep my position as a judge, I won't be able to save the boys, too." She already had the beginnings of plans on freeing them from Strauss's corrupt ass, but nothing near as complex as her billions of different scenarios on how to save Yui, with as much obsession as someone would if they could see the future and desperately sought to stop that horrible future. "Everyone else in the world can comfort their lover, and I'm the one that can't, Leo, no one can possibly understand how this feels. So no, I don't want the blood, just let me die."

Mizu was a wreck, No matter how strong a face she showed the world at the hearing, there was nothing that could make this right, not with Haruka trapped to suffer alone for the rest of forever. "Then you have to live, so you can be the only one in the world." Leo said quietly as the girl cried and hugged a blanket to herself. "If you're gone, then there won't be anyone in the world to love her. Even if it hurts, if you love her, that's your duty, Mizuki." She glared at him then, feeling a cold chill run down her spine. "Fuck you." She spat. "You can hug and care for Ally whenever you want, Haru's crying right now, she's hating herself and no one will ever be able to tell her that it wasn't her fault! So just get out!" If this was to be a happy ending, there was going to be a lot of healing that had to be done.

"Do you want to try and eat something?" Ally asked gently, the two had just arrived back at home and Ally was helping Yui out of her jacket. She was still weak and shaking from the experience of being on the filters. "I'm not all that hungry," Yui admitted quietly, her gaze on the ground. "I'd like you to at least try," Ally stubbornly guided Yui towards the kitchen, making her sit down. "I'm not as good as Damian, but I can still make a few things," she fried rice with chicken and ketchup, then put it in an egg in an attempt to make omurice. Ally even embellished it with a cute ketchup face before placing the plate in front of Yui and then moving to sit down across from her. Yui picked up her fork, taking a bite. It was a little burnt, but tolerable. She ate a third of it, but couldn't bring herself to chew and swallow anymore. "That's okay, at least you ate something," Ally ate the rest of it, using the same fork and everything. Yui wasn't grossed out, Ronan did the same thing all the time.

"Let's watch something," Ally said after washing the plate. "Come on, just like old times," Ally pulled Yui over to the couch and turned on the holo, trying to find something the two of them could enjoy. They settled on a mermaid movie, Yui resting her head on Ally's lap. Her ear feathers were stark white, innocent and pure once more. "Ally, do you think the're going to kill them?" Ally shook her head, "with Mizuki and K on the case I think the boys will be fine." She braided and unbraided a little piece of Yui's silky hair, the two of them enraptured by the flickering lights coming from the ocean. "Can you teach me how to swim?" Yui sat up, looking serious, "Ally, I want to learn to swim." Ally smiled, "come on, I'll take you somewhere." She took Yui to her room, the two of them putting on bathing suits.

Ally grabbed towels and they left the apartment, going up the staircase to the top floor where a large dome covered the pool. It was an indoor garden, just like the one from Yui's nightmares. Only this garden was immaculate with neatly trimmed bushes that framed a secret oasis, a pool. "Wow," Yui's eyes sparkled in wonder and for a moment. "Let's go in!" Yui looked around the bushes, the pool a large rectangle. "I own the building, no one will interrupt us," that was a relief, Yui was feeling awfully self conscious of her scars. "One step at a time now," the water was warm, almost like taking a bath. When Yui looked up she could see a flurry of snow drifting onto the dome, the two of them protected by the glass.

"Okay, what first senpai?" Ally giggled, ruffling Yui's hair. "Just Ally and the first thing we're gonna learn is a doggy paddle," the two of them spent almost two hours in the pool, teaching Yui the basics of swimming like putting your head underneath the water and holding your breath. "I don't have to hold my breath," Yui couldn't explain it. She went underneath the water and stayed there for a full minute before Ally freaked out and made her resurface. "Your skin is glistening," Ally's eyes widened. "It's like there's little sparkles flecked into it," Yui hugged herself. "I don't know what it is," she admitted. "I just know it needs water," which explained why Yui had been taking so many baths as of late.

There were nonstop court hearings for the next few days and Strauss had grown wise of Mizuki's antic, getting a little bit smarter each time. The first court case was Ronan, and Mizuki's strategy was to appeal to the fact that he was Yui's big brother, that he had no control of his actions and that he was innocent and Yui deserved her big brother, the last of her family, to be with her at her side through this troublesome time. Strauss countered with the fact that he was older, how he should have tried harder to fight against the seeds. There was a lot of back and forth and K wasn't as involved this time, since her main care was making sure Yui wasn't interred so that she would be free to do the operation on Yui whenever they completed the research. Getting permission to do an experimental treatment would be much more difficult if Yui was locked up.

In the end Ronan was decided to be innocent, but unstable, he would spend a month in a therapeutic mental health facility and then from there after the month he would be free, but have to have regular sessions with his therapist. And of course he would have people able to visit whenever he wasn't busy. Mizu tried to get him into Ally's care but unfortunately Strauss overruled her with the argument that Ally had her hands full with taking care of Yui. The next day was Xavier's and Mizuki had finally caved to Leo's pressure, agreeing to take in light in order to keep going, in order to save the boys to the best of her ability.

Xavier's trial went more or less the same. He was judged as needing help, and he would spend that same month with Ronan. Heck, with luck, they'd end up being roommates and support each other through recovery of their mutual physical and mental injuries. Lastly was Damian, and he was the most difficult of them all. For not only being the one that caused all of this to escalate beyond Raven's original darkness infection, he also killed Jenna in cold blood, the only one of them to lay his hands on a civilian. Perhaps worst of all, he was seen as the mastermind behind the deaths of Ira and Fumino Shoku. Mizu couldn't convince them that Haruka had wasted time making this order, this one was entirely Damian's prerogative. So he would be put in for quite a few years, but it wasn't life time like Raven's was.

Suffice to say, Xavier cried for his boyfriend and Damian accepted the charges as gracefully as he could. With all of those trials done, Mizu felt sick and weak. To make matters worse, someone knocked on her door, coming in without asking. "We came to visit, now that you're done with your trials for now." Ally had come, with Yui as well, who had been donning a disguise to get to her hospital room without much fuss. Mizu gave a weak wiggle of her fingers at the two. "I did my best, I'm sorry I couldn't save the boys too." It could have been worse, but it could have been better as well. Violet eyes settled on Yui's baby blues. "I hope you aren't letting the civvies get to your head, they don't understand, they're idiots. I should tell Aria to slaughter them all." She scowled, and cracked a joking grin when Ally frowned. "Just be honest though. Leo told you guys to come here, to convince me to accept your light, right?"

Yui wasn't in attendance for the rest of the trials, she hadn't wanted to go to the courthouse and since she didn't go, Ally didn't either. Instead they received live updates from the holo, where the trial was streaming live. It was all anyone could talk about, the fact that Yui had gotten off of her charges, the fact that Mizuki might be under Haruka's corruption in allowing them to walk freely. Ronan would be in a mental ward for a month, Xavier too. Damian had gotten the worst of it, he would be spending five years behind bars, but he could get a reduced sentence based on good behavior. The news continued to reel on about it, showing the footage of Xavier crying and desperately hugging Damian as the other boy was dragged away, taken to a high security prison and given all sorts of inhibitors. Yui tugged self consciously on her's, wondering if she would ever see a day where it was taken off.

It blinked with two little lights, one green, one red. If Yui tried to take it off, it would zap her fingers and if it was ever tampered with it would alert someone, probably Ally. "We should go visit Mizuki, she's probably lonely," Ally said, getting up from the couch to go fix herself a cup of hot chocolate. She returned with two mugs, setting one down for Yui. "Do you think she gets a lot of visitors?" Yui inquired, lifting the mug to her lips and taking a sip. The brew warmed her insides and made her settle back on the couch, feeling slightly comforted by the taste of chocolate on her tongue. "I don't know," Ally admitted, her lips turned down in a frown. "We should bring her something as thanks," Yui got up from the couch and moved to the floor, taking out her coloring book and crayons to make Mizuki a thank you card for getting her out of a life sentence in prison.

How did one go about thanking someone for that? Yui had no idea. She disguised it as a get-well card, slipping the message among the messy scrawl of the handwritten note. "There, done," Yui stood and stretched, feeling like a cat as she reached up high and then bent at the middle to sweep down low. "I'm not liking that throng of reporters," Ally peeked out from behind the curtains, glancing at the street below their feet. "Let's get you a disguise," they went to Yui's room, Ally going through the closet. She braided Yui's hair and tucked it underneath a woolen winter hat, then took out a pair of over sized sunglasses and a medical face mask. With Yui properly covered up Ally then put on her own jacket and the two set off to the car that would carry them to the hospital.

Yui knocked on the hospital room door, opening it slowly to make sure that Mizuki was inside. Ally pushed the door open the rest of the way and stepped through the threshold, pulling Yui into the space alongside her. "Hi Mizu," Yui said quietly, taking off the sunglasses and face mask. "No, we didn't come to convince you," Ally said, taking a seat beside the bed. Yui shuffled over and placed her card on Mizuki's lap. "But it would be nice," Yui said quietly. "It's sort of lonely at home, with just Ally." Their house used to be filled with laughter and music, now silence reverberated among the empty rooms.

It was nice, having Ally here, having Yui here, Mizuki was tired of only having Leo and K to talk to, as well as bunches of men in fancy suits talking politicky stuff. It was annoying and boring, she did her job, she didn't have to do anything else, at least for now. Her job was an important one, she could keep the judgment and rulings from becoming too corrupt by the silly humans that just wanted revenge without thinking about right or wrong. "It's hard, isn't it? Just the two of you..." For some reason it was hard to admit her loneliness, hard to admit just how much she wished she could make Haruka stop crying. Every night she heard it in her dreams, in her nightmares, the one she loved most crying so much. That was a self imposed punishment, because she couldn't save Haru, Mizu wouldn't let herself have Yui's light.

"But if you're lonely, then maybe I'll move in." Mizuki shrugged, glaring at the extension of her body part, something she had to be hooked up to at all times no matter the circumstance. It had gone past the point of being embarrassed that a nurse had to sponge bath her because the machine was big and heavy and that was lame. Then her gaze fell on Yui's inhibitor. They all had one - all except Mizuki, because if she had one, the light wouldn't be able to go to her heart, it would be clogged by the inhibitor. Ally was an exception, but it turned off for the allotted dream therapy time, which was every night, and if it detected Ally in someone else's dream it would turn back on. "Once they find a way to get your Light Seed out without killing you, Yui, you won't need to wear that anymore."

Without having to push herself every night and day, it took about a week for Mizu to be well enough for Leo to let her move in with Ally, but she was going to be wheelchair bound for the rest of her life - or maybe until someone invented a smaller, more compact version of the portable light synthesizer. Her games and everything was moved in, and it was a very private residence. Not as secluded as the Vorkov mansion, but Ally did make sure they were in a gated community so reporters and the like would be breaking the law if they tried to get in. "It's a bit lonely, but welcome home." Ally said with surprise cake as Leo rolled Mizuki in. She grinned, maybe even was glad that she wasn't stuck in the same four walls all the time.

"Also, I heard from Ari, from her special hospital to regrow eyes." Other than being given permission to attend Yui's hearing, their big sister was stuck in that hospital for testing and experiments. She volunteered for them, of course, in exchange for some sort of favor - most likely political - but in exchange she hadn't been able to come and see anyone. Not that she could see at all even with permission. "She wants to move in too, they'll let her out soon." Mizu smiled, a forlorn one that missed old happy days. "Do you think we'll be able to rebuild the family and heal?" She asked sadly as she chewed on the cake, finding it oh so sweet, but even more bitter at the same time.

Yui was trying to make sense of Mizuki's decision. "Mizu, I don't want to try and convince you of anything, but I would like for you to live," there, that was her opinion, she wasn't going to push it. Yui was willing to give the necessary blood so that Mizuki could get the ghost heart, she didn't mind being a donor. Yui had even told Mizuki before that if she did die, she wanted Mizuki to have her heart. The two were a match in just about everything, being compatible for either one to receive a vital organ from the other. Therefore, Yui didn't understand why Mizuki wouldn't accept her blood and use it so that she didn't have to be wheelchair bound and connected to this clunky machine like a robot in constant need of charging. "I really don't mind, it doesn't hurt," Yui shook her head. Sure, she hated needles, but if it was for Mizuki then Yui would bravely face whatever challenges the world tried to throw at them.

"You should move in, we can have lots of fun again!" Yui missed the three of them, dressing up, having tea parties, coloring on the walls. Wait, coloring on the walls? When had Yui done that? She blinked, slightly confused before the memory faded. Ally placed a hand on Yui's shoulder. "We would love to have you over, there's plenty of space for you to move in." That was, if Mizuki could be moved from the hospital. Yui tugged at the inhibitor self consciously. "It's not that bad, it's just like wearing a heavy bracelet," only it stuck out like a sore thumb if she ever wanted to go somewhere. "It's a lot better than being in jail," that was for sure. They would have thrown Yui into the same high security prison as Haruka. Yui would have wasted away the rest of her life beyond bars, possibly happy that she wouldn't be able to hurt anyone ever again, but sad because of the isolation.

When Ally and Yui returned home, Yui went straight to take a bath. She dipped into the water, sinking into its warm embrace when something stung her. Yui looked down, her eyes widening. The surface of the tub was on fire. She screamed, thrashing around, trying to get out of the water but the fire spread, burning her skin and her hair, setting her ear feathers alight. Ally burst into the bathroom, her eyes wide with panic. "Yui, Yui, what's wrong?" Ally grabbed Yui out of the water, trying to see what had happened. She wrapped the girl in a towel and took her to the other room. "What's wrong? What happened?" Yui shook her head, not speaking. It took a while to convince her that everything was okay, that nothing was on fire, that she was fine. "It could just be residue from the seeds, I can try to get another filter?" Yui shook her head, she didn't like the filters. "It's better to be clean of it then to suffer delusions, isn't it?"

Yui spent the next two days connected to one, by the time Mizuki arrived it was finally over. "Welcome home," Yui smiled upon greeting her. "I'm so glad you could move in with us," Ally and Yui had baked a cake the day before. Er really, Ally had made it and Yui had watched because she hadn't been able to do much while attached to a filter. Mizuki proposed an interesting question, one about healing. "I think with time," Yui said quietly, "we can all move on and begin to heal," for now the incident was still fresh in their minds, or at least Yui's. It had only been a week since she had gotten her mind back and she was suffering greatly from self-doubt, confusion, and fear.

Healing was going to be a slow, painful process, but over time, it happened to everyone. Mizuki found herself unable to help sneaking little smiles around just playing with Ally, or watching anime with Yui. Maybe it was sad, maybe it was wrong, a part of the girl wanted to stay miserable because it wasn't right for her to be happy when Haru had to be suffering all alone forever. But another part of her knew that Haruka didn't even want to be free, she just wanted to rot forever as atonement for the billions of deaths that she caused, they were still trying to identify the bodies and determine who was missing and who was dead, and so many families were there, hoping and praying that their loved one only turned out to have been missing and that they would one day come back to them.

Was it really okay to smile and find happiness, despite all of this? It was a hard question to think about. "Okay, I've had it, of being stuck in this house." Ally decided one morning to Yui and Mizuki after lunch had been made for them "It's too big, and there's only three of us! So let's go actually do something today!" And so they tried many things to occupy themselves, they took a helicopter out to have an ocean tour by the sea, with just the three of them, taking pictures to send to all their friends who couldn't be there with them. They even went scuba diving right after, although one of the three seemingly didn't need gear and the other couldn't because she was stuck to her wheelchair.

And it was after these excursions that Mizuki decided that, well, happiness was still possible, and that if anything, Yui deserved to be just that. Happy. And if a part of that happiness included Mizu, the sick girl wouldn't be selfish and just die and leave everyone behind. So on the helicopter ride back to the city, Mizuki decided she might as well announce it. "Can we make a stop at the hospital." She asked, almost timidly because of how adamantly against it she had been just days ago. "I think Leo's available, he can get the blood samples for the 100% efficient light, rather than K's 40%, which was just about as good as she could make it.

Ally stared for a moment, disbelieving, and then a very slow grin started to grow. She glomped Mizu then, almost making her headset fall off. "Thank you!" The rich girl cried. "I tried so hard, all these events, to try and convince you to live. Thank you, Mizu, Yui and I, we'll always need you. And things will get better, life will improve! I want us to be able to have a reason to smile each and every day." Mizu decided, hey, it was probably okay to cry too, and so she pulled Yui into the hug as Ally informed the pilot to take them to the hospital to get Mizuki off of that wheelchair once and for all.

Yui seemed to slowly be coming back out of her shell. At first it was in little bits, whenever Ally caught her playing with dolls or stuffed toys Yui would freeze up as though caught in the act of doing something terrible and wouldn't start up again until she was alone. It was a strange thing, but if it made Yui comfortable then Ally wouldn't interfere. Other than these small instances Yui was almost never alone, not even in her dreams. If things began to spiral in her sleep Ally would quickly jump in to drag her back to the surface, ensuring that Yui could have at least a semi-peaceful night sleep. In the morning Yui would write down about whatever dreams she had and what she and Ally did to improve them. This was only for the court-mandated dream therapy. It was a little silly, but Yui didn't mind if it proved that she was innocent.

"Let's go somewhere," Ally and Mizuki seemed to have finally been fed up with being cooped up indoors. The weather was still blustering and cold, showing no signs of letting up, but the three girls had, had enough of being cooped up. Yui was ready to go and do something, to hit the town and see what was going on outside of these walls, to observe how New Tokyo was rebuilding after the attack Raven had led to overtake the city. Ally found them a helicopter to ride in, the three girls somehow ending up at the beach. After walking along the shore, it was decided that they would go scuba diving, but Mizuki couldn't go. Yui didn't want to leave her, Ally was insisting on taking Yui out to the ocean despite the fact that one of them was wheelchair bound. They only went for an hour, Ally in scuba gear, Yui using the new techniques Ally had taught her.

When they returned to the helicopter they were both freezing, their teeth chattering. Yui wrapped herself in a blanket and sat on the seat beside Mizuki, trying to make the shivering stop. It was then that Mizuki made her announcement, deciding that she wanted to live, that she would go through with the treatment. "You're not going to regret it," Yui hugged Mizuki, Ally pulling all three of them into a group hug. "I promise, we'll live the best lives we can." Even if Haruka was in jail, even if Yui never got the surgery to remove the light seed, they would still live to the fullest extent. The hospital was looming in view now, Yui knew she would have to be ready to give plenty of blood for Leo to use to make the proper medicine for Mizuki. Yui was ready, even if there were needles and bad memories, Yui would do whatever she could to let Mizuki live.

"Sixty one, sixty two... seventy," Ronan grunted, placing the weights down. "Incredible," someone muttered, tapping a clipboard. "You've learned to almost completely manage your temper," Ronan sunk down into a seat, sweating. The electrodes on his body were uncomfortable and sticky, but he put up with them since it was a requirement so that they would know if his temper was set off. Out of all the things to nitpick, this was the one the mental hospital had chosen. "Yeah well, the faster it's under control, the faster I get out of here." He unraveled the tape from around his knuckles, the skin red and raw, his knuckles split. "Let's get you some ice for that," a doctor spoke softly, doing his best to clean the wounds. Once Ronan's hands were wrapped he was pointed towards group therapy, a daily drag that made him want to kill himself.

"I hate it here," Ronan mumbled, glancing out the window. He stopped, trying to catch his breath. Lately it was as though he could never get enough air into his lungs. His head was spinning, he had hardly been able to eat breakfast. Ronan's knees inexplicably weakened, sending him tumbling into the floor. "Ro?" Someone poked their head outside the door, Xavier appearing. "Hey!" He called to one of the orderlies that had begun walking towards them with a furrowed brow. "Something's wrong with Ronan!" The orderly tapped Ronan with his foot, trying to get him to rise. Ronan didn't move, his face was screwed up in pain. "Faking a stomach ache to get out of group therapy? That's a new low."

"Not... stomach," he gasped. The orderly frowned, taking out a stethoscope to listen. "Oh my," he helped Ronan to his feet. "Let's get you to the doctor."

The next morning, Justice Matsuri - and it was still oh so very weird to hear herself being called something so official and professional like that - but Justice Matsuri had the clearance for lots of high secret things. One of these things was the situations of the rest of the family, Haruka refusing to talk to anyone, Aria keeps trying to write letters but is unable to because she's blind, Damian being given a book by one of the guards for them to read together as buddies, and of course, Ronan had a health problem. "We're going to be busy today." Mizuki muttered at the breakfast table to Ally and Yui. "Ronan, you two really should go visit him today. Ally has clearance and Yui's allowed to tag along." She nodded then, she'd the orderlies there, or Xavier even, tell the about the kidney problem. "I'm going to visit Haruka today, because I'm one of the only people allowed to."

So she played games with Yui until Ally was ready to head out to the mental facility to go and meet Ronan. "Will you be okay?" Ally asked at the door with Yui. "You have a drive, right?" The sick girl nodded. Now that she wasn't stuck to her wheelchair anymore she had quite a bit more freedom now, she still needed it at night, but as long as Yui gave her light once a week in an infusion she wouldn't need her prison during the day. "Yeah, I have one." Was all Mizu said and she wiggled her fingers in farewell. "Good luck with Ronan! I'll see you two back here tonight." Not long after that, K arrived, looking a tiny bit disgruntled. "Who would have thought that the second head Sanctum would be a taxi driver." She murmured, inviting Mizu in. "I see you finally accepted the treatment." And so Mizu climbed in, grinning and relishing her new freedom.

"Two more weeks and Ronan and Xavier will be free." K said as they drove through the city of Tokyo, the large and tall buildings whizzing past after they went through the gate. "I'm sure that's something you and your people are excited for." Mizu nodded, she was very excited for that, to bring them home. "And your older sister, Aria, she'll be let out a few days after that, or so I've heard." Everything was starting to look up, the only problem was having to wait five years for Damian, and to wait forever and ever for a miracle to let Haruka out. "And weren't you one of our enemies from way back?" Mizu asked with a sneaky sort of smirk. "You kidnapped Yui and big sis before, didn't you?"

K let out a vicious sort of sneer as they drove closer to the prison. "Times change." She said and shrugged. "I knew the best way to accomplish our goals of protecting the world from a Goddess's judgment is to change sides, so to speak. I stopped looking at Yui like a Goddess and more like a normal girl - a girl that absolutely didn't want that fate." She changed sides, she joined their team, she was the mastermind behind the plan to get the Matsuri girls out of Raven's grip that one time. "Thank you, Kirouac." Mizu said quietly, with sudden sincerity. "If it wasn't for you, none of this would have been possible. I'm glad Haru didn't kill you that time." K sneered wider, teeth gleaming in the sunlight. "Well, for obvious reasons, I'm also glad about that."

"Come on, let's get him up, slowly now." Ronan grunted with the effort of sitting up as they moved him from the stretcher to a private room with no window. "Blood tests came back, it's not looking good," the doctor put down his tablet and washed his hands, they had just put a port into Ronan's chest. Now he knew what Yui felt like, the spot was tender and it hurt to move his shoulder. It was necessary, however, so that they could put him on dialysis. "Is this really all necessary?" He asked as the nurse stuck a series of stickers on his body. "Yes, these are to keep track of your vitals." He was in the hospital wing of the house for the mentally ill, a private room that was much smaller than the one he had been sharing with Xavier. "You have visitors," the head orderly opened the door up to reveal two familiar faces. Ronan didn't want them to see him like this, so weak and vulnerable. Yui seemed so happy in that moment, relieved to see her big brother again.

"Ronan!" She said enthusiastically, clambering onto the bed to give him a hug. "Is this your family?" The nurse asked and Ronan nodded, "my sister and her friend." The nurse glanced at Yui, noticing the ear feathers, her expression becoming something unreadable. It was possible she had watched the court cases, it was possible that Yui had killed her family. "I'll leave you three to it," she closed the door behind her and Ally took a seat across from the bed, crossing her legs and picking up the tablet the doctor had left behind. "What's wrong? Why do you have this machine?" Ronan shook his head, not wanting Yui to worry about him. "I um, I had an accident," he scratched the back of his head and looked away. "You're lying," even with the inhibitor, Yui could sense it. Ronan started, how had Yui been able to tell? H glanced at Ally, who was giggling at his confusion.

"It's her ability, we learned she's a human lie detector." A useful ability, especially for something like this. Ronan slumped against his pillow, he had bags under his eyes and it was evident he had recently lost some weight. "Kidney failure," he said at last. "The darkness did so much damage to my body that I only had one kidney left, but it was overworked and started failing," he ran a hand in frustration through his hair. "They said I'll need a double kidney transplant, but the likelihood of finding a match is slim, it'll have to come from a dead person since I'll need two kidneys." Yui tilted her head to the side in question, "they can't use ghost organs?" She asked, her eyes full of worry. This is exactly what Ronan hadn't wanted, Yui had enough on her plate already. "Don't worry about it, okay? I'll find a donor."

Yui didn't point out the lie, he was worried about it, Yui could tell. How long would he have if he didn't find a donor? Yui didn't want to ask, she didn't feel it an appropriate question. "I learned to swim," she said instead. "And guess what? I can breathe underwater!" Ronan's eyes widened, "what? How?" He asked, intrigued. Yui rolled up her sleeves and held her arms to the light so that he could see the shiny layer of skin. "I call it ena, because of the mermaid in my favorite movie." Ronan took her wrists gently and turned her hands over. "How does it work?" Yui leaned back against him, she was sitting in his lap. "I don't know, but it works, ask Ally, she's seen it."

"Well, here's your stop. I'll be waiting here, so don't take too long." K said, opening the door for the sick girl, who grinned as she hopped out, enjoying how light she felt. She did a little twirl on her feet, violet eyes shining with excitement. "That's not a sight you'd see, a Justice dancing at a prison." K snorted and Mizuki stuck her tongue out at her former enemy, heading in, the two guards at the entrance staring at her in confusion. The whole affair was strange, after all, why was a sixteen year old girl a part of the International Court affairs? "Here's my ID card, Justice Matsuri, I called earlier that I was gonna visit, didn't I?" So they let her in, the dark steel gates closing behind her. Of course, this prison wasn't where Haru was, but it was where the communicator that connected to the real prison of unknown location was.

So Mizuki was escorted down the twisting winding paths until she finally saw it, the room that held the communicator to a certain Shoku, Haruka's room. "You have an hour." And Mizu really did want more than just an hour, but if that was what she could get, then she wouldn't dispute it. She turned it on and it let out a signal to the real prison, and then five minutes later Haruka was taken to the communication room and the two girls were finally as face to face as they would ever be, ever again. Mizu of course knew where the real prison was, she had visited it during the trials to get Yui, but they were back in Japan now, it'd take too long to fly over.

Haru looked pale and almost sickly in the cell and she very much looked as if she didn't want to talk, to anyone at all. It's been three weeks of prison, and who knows, maybe seventy more years to go, her whole life, reduced to this horrible existence. Death would be a kinder fate. "I need to know, Haruka." Mizu spoke with the authority of a judge. Of course this wasn't going to be a personal feelings visit. "Where did you put Leo's father, where did you hide him?" Haruka's eyes were dull and faded as she struggled to remember. "We need him, he can grow organs, and Ronan's going to die without it." Haruka frowned a little and Mizu felt bad but she forgot how to be gentle and kind to this girl.

"Antarctica." Was the response and it was strained and scratchy as if Haru hadn't spoken in three weeks. She hardly even got to see anyone, not even the guards because food was transported in through a tube. There weren't even other inmates to talk to, everyone was locked isolated from everyone else. "Look through my notes, you'll find the location." Mizu nodded and then her expression softened. "And don't worry. I'll find a way to end this one way or another." She was going to take a page out of K's book for this one, the plan already forming. Haruka wisely said nothing and Mizu shut off the thing, going back to the car. "K, there's been a report, one of Haruka's victims is still held captive, send people to bring him out of Antarctica." And now, it was time to head back home.

"Don't worry guys, I'll be fine, really." Xavier had gotten permission to come and visit, but he only had a few minutes since visiting hours were nearly over. "I miss you," Yui said, hugging his legs. "I miss you too," he ruffled her hair, his smile gentle. It was clear that Xavier hadn't been getting much sleep either, what with the nightmares that plagued them all. Ally couldn't go into anyone but Yui's dreams without the inhibitor turning on, meaning she was unable to provide them with any relief. "You'll be coming home soon, right?" Yui asked both of them, looking uneasily at the large machine Ronan was attached to. "Actually," Ronan's voice was gentle, "they're gonna move me to the hospital tomorrow," he would be easier to see, at least, but Yui didn't want Ronan to have to spend time there, she had spent enough time in hospitals to know that they ere not somewhere you wanted to be. It wasn't as though they had a choice, Ronan was going into kidney failure, she couldn't be selfish.

"I brought you both something," Yui went into her pockets, pulling out what looked like two square pieces of paper. "Ally and I baked cookies," inside of the paper baggies were the sugar cookies they had decorated the night before. Yui handed one to Xavier and one to Ronan, hoping that the small treat would bring at least the smallest ray of sunshine to their lives. "I'll see you soon, right?" Yui asked as she hugged Ronan. "Yes, very soon," he promised. The orderly appeared to escort them out, visiting hours having ended. "Do you think Mizuki's home already?" Yui asked, sensing eyes on her as they walked down the hall. There were people staring at them, other residents of the mental facility. Yui clung to Ally's side, the hair on the back of her neck standing upright.

Why were they watching her so intently? Yui wondered as she got into the car. She didn't realize just how famous her trial had made her, how many people had held their breaths and either hoped she would be convicted or freed of her offenses. It made sense considering how many Yui had killed that she wouldn't get off Scott-free, which is exactly why so many were baffled by the case. Cameras weren't allowed in the courtroom, but when Yui had walked out of that courtroom free of handcuffs, they thought it to be strange. Light bearers were something they feared, seeing as how they had nearly taken over the world and oppressed those who were born without light-bearing abilities. They were monsters, not humans.

Thus they had to be identified, which you could do by looking for an inhibitor. Yui had one, Ally had one, Mizuki was the only one of them that wasn't forced to done one of the silver bracelets. "Do you think they'll stop thinking of us as criminals?" Yui asked quietly, causing Ally to stiffen. "I don't know," she replied honestly, her voice trembling ever so slightly. "I just hope that whatever the future holds, it's brighter than it is now." The car zoomed along the highway, the two of them sitting in the backseat. Something darted across the road, the driver swerved, the car skidding on ice. Yui screamed as the car turned over, air bags deploying.

And so a new trial was called, one to recognize the existence of the Anti-light faction, those that despised light bearers and wanted justice for everything that happened when Raven was in control. There wasn't a jury or anything this time, it was just a debate between the three people with the mots authority in the world, the three judges of the International Court. Mizuki was one, Annette Kirouac was the other, and Byron Strauss was the third, and the eldest as well. After Ally and Yui were nearly assassinated in a way eerily similar to how Eric and Kimiko passed, it was obvious something needed to be done. And Mizuki had a very good idea on exactly what needed to happen. "The Court has been called to discuss this new threat to the peace, to address the fact that the people needed justice and we failed to deliver." Strauss cleared his throat after speaking, gazing at the cameras with a serious eye.

"First of all, this is unacceptable. Yui's innocent, all the light bearers walking free are innocent, they were used against their control." Mizuki stated clearly, trying to keep her face as stony as possible as she spoke to the camera, the broadcast being live all around the world, with live translators translating it into their various languages. "Haruka Shoku's power is to go into your head, to change your thoughts to suit her bidding, and even if you tried to fight back she would make it so that you don't even remember how to fight back. We tested it here with the Jury, they all started dancing and stripping like morons." This needed to be made clear. "If it was your child that was kidnapped and then implanted with Haruka's seeds, would that child be guilty for the things they do? Use your damn brains."

K was the one in the middle then. "If the light bearers are innocent, then that means they won't use their powers against us." K said. "After all, Mizuki hasn't turned against us, and she's a light bearer." She paused to think, but Strauss interrupted. "If you're considering removing the inhibitors, you're making a mistake. What if, for example, Aria Matsuri wants revenge? We need to protect our non light bearers because they can't protect themselves, they don't have powers." Mizuki was fuming. "But without powers, who will protect the innocent light bearers?" She asked in a cold, demanding voice. "Unless you condone unprovoked violence, and needless revenge and chaos? Is that your idea of peace, Justice Strauss?"

But even with all of this, Mizu knew the antilights wouldn't be pacified. But there was one way to accomplish this, one very good way that was the very opening Mizuki needed. "I suggest that we execute Haruka Shoku." There was a pause but then Strauss nodded in agreement. "If her death stops the rioting, then one life will be traded to put an end to it." K shrugged then. "And I'll modify all the Inhibitors so that it releases the light bearers temporarily when it detects danger. So any humans that want to attack will risk death by self defense." And so the court meeting, aired live, was adjourned.

The room was blurry, slowly coming into focus. "She's awake, oh thank the stars!" Someone sobbed in relief, but Yui couldn't open her eyes all the way, they felt as though they were tapped shut. "Hang on, just one second," someone brushed her face, gently peeling tape off. Now that Yui could open her eyes all the way she could tell she was in the hospital, a large picture window framing the snowy landscape of the countryside. "We didn't go back to the city, they thought it'd be safer here." Ally was sitting in a wheelchair, looking banged up. Yui could only imagine what she looked like, what with how many bandages she could see. "What happened?" Yui croaked, her throat scratchy and raw. Ally swallowed hard, placing her hand on Yui's arm. "A car accident," she admitted, looking as though she had been crying for quite sometime. What was wrong? Was it because she was in pain?

There was no need to alert Yui that someone had tried to kill them, that the normal humans of New Tokyo harbored so much hate for one small child that they would attempt to murder her. It wasn't just one person, it was an entire community that resented light bearers and believed them to be unnatural. They thought that the light bearers represented the bad things in the world and that they should quite frankly, just go die. It was this group that had tried to kill an innocent child that had done nothing wrong, unless you counted existing. "There was ice on the road that the driver didn't see, something jumped out and we swerved and hit a tree." Yui tried to sit up, but it hurt to move. "Don't try to sit up, you've got a lot of bruises." Yui whimpered, it hurt to breathe, she could hear her ribs crackling with every breath, no doubt broken.

"How long...?" Ally looked away, her gaze finding the window. "Two days, they were afraid that there was bleeding on the brain from the concussion, thankfully it wasn't." Ally brushed a strand of Yui's hair out of her face, "your ena is looking crackly, let me wash it." She used the mattress to push the girl into a sitting position, then helped Yui out of the hospitall gown. Yui caught sight of her body, gasping. She was covered in cuts and bruises, bandages over the bigger areas of torn skin. "We were on a private road, so it was a while before anyone found us," Ally wheeled herself closer with a bucket full of warm water and a sponge. "I was lucky, I only broke a leg and sprained my wrist." That didn't sound like luck, Yui thought that sounded very painful.

"Are the others alright?" Ally nodded, "why wouldn't they be?" Yui had a slight feeling of unease, as though not everything was as okay as Ally was pretending. "Yui, there's something I need to tell you," Ally put the sponge down, helping Yui back into the hospital gown. "What is it? What's wrong?" Ally looked away, it was hard to speak about it as she was so distraught. "It's Haruka," she said quietly, "they're going to execute her."

If there was a good reason Mizuki wasn't yet in the hospital room, it was because she was very busy dealing with something else. "Xavier and Ronan both expressed great fear that they'll be targeted next." Mizuki told the warden of the mental institution. "So I have court's permission to take them out but keep them supervised, I'll be handling the supervision, as a Justice of the International Court, of course." Doc was already at work on growing the organs for Ronan, having taken blood from Yui while she was asleep. And so the two boys were freed a week early, and the three of them were heading back to the secluded countryside hospital where Mizu had K play around with the data so that Yui and Ally had fake names. All the workers at the hospital were former HIVE, the original HIVE, the ones that supported Raven from the beginning, so they were most definitely loyal.

And an hour later, they made it, Yui and Ally were both already awake. Ronan was being wheeled in, his various machines keeping him alive attached to it. "K will be coming soon to make the modifications to the Inhibitors." Mizu said as she entered with Xavier and Ronan. "Oh, Yui, you're awake, great. Um, neither of you look happy though." Ally was weeping, and then she wheeled herself to Mizu and slapped the sick girl on the cheek. "You're one of the most influential people in the world." She declared. "Why? Why didn't you change their minds, why didn't you save Haruka?" Mizuki just shrugged then. "She's better off dead than having to live her life in a cell forever." She said, and then made a crafty sort of expression. "Haruka Shoku will never see the day of light again."

It was just the way it was, or so they said. "We're back now, at least." Xavier didn't look all that happy though, not with all that was happening. "Sorry we've been away for so long, we wanted to see everyone so badly." And Ronan grunted that he, too, was getting restless trapped in a prison that pretended to help you. "Least the Doc's gettin' me the kidneys soon, so Yui, I'll be fine, worry about yourself." The big brother turned his gaze to Mizu then, and it was obvious what he was going to ask. "When's Ari coming to join us?" Mizu made a peace sign. "She's flying in from Italy in two days, they're letting her go early with all that's been happening, they don't wanna risk it." Though it was unlikely one of the heroes of Bismark would be targeted, you could never be too sure.

K came in then, holding up a set of tools. "I'm going to modify your inhibitors now, so hold still. And try not to kill me with your brief window of freedom." She did Xavier's first, then Ronan's, Ally's, and finally, Yui's. She then put a finger to her mouth, a secretive one. "There, now you'll be able to protect yourself." She made her exit after a bow then and Mizu could only smirk at that, holding out a piece of paper for everyone to see that read that K disabled the inhibitors but made them give off fake signs of working to trick the people in charge of monitoring them.

"How long will I have to be here for?" It was clear that Yui was already anxious to leave, she hated hospitals. "Once you're up and walking it shouldn't be long," Ally was going to do exoskeleton therapy so she would be up and walking once the bone had set. "How long until that happens?" Ally shrugged, it depended on how fast Yui would heal. "I hate hospitals," Ally went to her bag, pulling something out. Yui's eyes lit up at the familiar stuffed animal, believing it to have been lost a long time ago. "Nemi," Yui tried to reach for it, but moving hurt. "Stay down, I'll bring it to you," Ally set Nemi the dog on the bed, letting Yui reach for the plushy and hug it in her arms. Having the presence of something familiar put her slightly more at ease, albeit it was only a tad but even something small could make a world of a difference in the long run. "Do you think Haruka will be alright?" Obviously not if she was going to be executed, but Yui didn't know what else to say.

The door creaked open, Mizuki stepped inside, Xavier pushing Ronan in a wheelchair. Ronan didn't seem the least bit happy that he was in a chair, hooked up to all sorts of machines that were keeping him alive while the Doc worked on getting his kidney prepared for the transplant. Ally marched right up to Mizuki and slapped her, furious for the injustice of what was going to happen to their friend. "Haruka is just as much a victim in this as we are!" Ally declared, seemingly not angry over the fact that Haruka had wiped her clean and made her a toy for her discretion. "The darkness corrupts minds and robs you of rational thought, but no one cares, they needed someone to blame and Haruka was the easiest one to shoulder it." Yui felt sickened by the nation she had once thought of as her home. It was evident that Japan was becoming a hostile place for light bearers to reside.

Xavier piped up then and Yui wished she could go over and hug them, she wished she could sit on Ronan's lap and tell him that everything would be okay. "I'm glad you're here," Yui wanted to spend some time with her big brother before the big operation. He would be residing here for now, where it was safe from the abuse of the orderlies that disliked light bearers. Xavier was still a bit battered from it, although if you asked him he would simply say that he had tripped. No one cared about light bearers, or maybe they cared too much? "I can't wait to see her, I hope she can see again too." Yui was eagerly awaiting for the missing presence in her life, the one that was always so prominent in other timelines. Ronan seemed flustered at the thought of seeing Aria once more, especially since during their last meeting, they had tried to kill each other. Granted one of them was under the influence of darkness, but it didn't change what had happened between them.

K arrived just in the nick of time, getting to work on their inhibitors. Yui went last and almost as soon as K adjusted it she could feel the flow of power once more. It was scary, Yui almost liked the thought of having the inhibitor as a type of insurance in case she ever got angry or sad and tried to lash out. She would have to be in control of it, there was no relying on fancy technology that would stop her if things got bad. "Thank you," Yui said, watching K leave. "Are we really in danger?" Yui asked with a frown and Ally nodded, not wanting to divulge just how bad things were out there.

Yui understood what it was like, Yui knew the darkness. Ally knew too, they all did, Ally just wanted someone to lash out at and someone with power like Mizu was the most obvious choice for this. It was all just a disaster, everything that was happening. "I'm sorry." Mizuki murmured, even though there wasn't anything to really apologize for. "If I could, I would have changed the decision. I'm only one Justice, I can't do everything." The girl's eyes were hardened, she wasn't the same naive girl that thought just by holding the Prophecy she was able to change and dictate it. Back then, Mizu didn't know anything. Now, she knew just how powerless she was, everyone was, to really change the future for the better.

So they bided their time here, waiting for Aria to arrive. The Doc came by to take blood and tissue and a bunch of other things from Ronan, judging how much time Ronan had left. "It shouldn't be long, a few days and then we'll be ready to give you the transplant." He paused in thought then. "I wish I could do more to help all of you, but things aren't looking good for the light bearers" Aria was already at the point where she could video chat with everyone, even though she was blind. "I can't wait to get there, for K to modify my inhibitor, I'm worried someone will attack me since mine's still the old model." She grinned wickedly then, happy to be talking with Yui once again."Heh, as if, I bet even blind, I could box their socks off!"

The next morning came and Mizuki wasn't the only one excited. "Let's get ready and go to the airport. I have my electricity to protect us if anything happens." She just had her light infusion the night before, so she was feeling better than usual. "If anything happens, let me handle it, be careful with your powers, okay?" If anyone found out that the inhibitors were a fraud, both Mizuki and K would have their status stripped and Strauss would no doubt replace the Court with his cronies to punish and hurt the light bearers as much as possible. "Once Ari's back we can try to think of how to help Haruka." Ronan was eager to save his younger sister, Haruka. Even with all that happened, he still thought of her as a sister.

On the way to the airport they heard a strange and terrifying report, that antilights took control of it and were holding people hostage unless Aria Matsuri surrendered and let herself be judged by the rage of the people. It was very illogical, every bit of it, Ari had saved them, if she hadn't joined K's side the world would have been under Raven's thumb! Maybe that would have been for the best, Mizu thought not for the first time. When they made it to the airport though, hours later, they saw Aria being interviewed with cameras all around."Well, of course I wasn't gonna let them blow it up, not with people all around, innocents." Her arm looked hurt and broken but there was also a group of handcuffed people. Aria somehow beat them up while blind and saved everyone at the airport. "What do you think about the antilight faction? When security came to help, why did you tell them not to shoot them?"

Aria grinned then. "I'm a lightbearer, and we exist to bring hope to the world." And then it was very obvious to Mizu that Aria was laying on the act. "If I let them die, that puts me on the same level as them. We saved the world, so we just want to live in peace, and we will live in peace, no matter how much they try to attack us." The reporter definitely seemed impressed. "So when your Inhibitor's updated to the next model, if you or your family were to be attacked again..." The idol nodded brightly. "Of course we'll forgive them, we exist to protect the people. Even if some of us fall to darkness and lose the ability to fight against it, light will always prevail."

Unlike the times before, the recovery for these wounds were a bit easier. She had two broken ribs and her middle was wrapped, as well as a concussion and some internal bleeding that was quickly mopped up. Within the first day, Yui was back on her feet, walking slowly around the room with Xavier since Ally was wheelchair bound with her broken leg. Ally had to have eleven metal pins put into her leg and there was suspicion of severe nerve damage, which was evident by the way Ally kept wincing and hissing in pain, even when she was sitting unmoving in her chair. Thankfully it was something that was treatable with daily pills and plenty of pain killers. Yui's biggest issue was how painful it was to breathe, her ribs crackling with every breathe as they were on the mend. Her torso was covered in black and blue bruises and bathing was a task on its own. Thankfully Ally sponged her down whenever her ena was looking especially crackly.

"I can't wait for Aria to return," it was the bright spot in all of this. When they video called, even if Aria couldn't see, Yui was very happy to be able to chat with the girl she considered one of her big sister's. "I'm so glad you'll be coming home soon," Yui smiled, even if Aria couldn't see it. "I miss you a lot," Ally scoffed in the background. "You make it sound like we're not taking care of you," she smiled teasingly as Yui blushed. "Th-that's not it!" Yui shook her head vigorously and Ally giggled. "I'm just teasing you Yui," this only served to make Yui blush further. "Regardless Aria, I think we'll all be very happy when you come home," the video call ended after that. "Why didn't you tell her about Ronan?" Yui asked quietly. "She has enough on her plate already, I don't want her to worry anymore than she has to."

By the third day, Yui was up and walking around on her own. She was eating full solids again, but still receiving nutrient replacement to try and get some weight back on her body. Ronan too, now had to use the synthetic nutrients as he couldn't eat much without throwing up. The Doc was working hard on growing the replacement kidneys as swiftly as possible and in the meantime Ronan was bedridden, spending most of his free time trying to catch up on all of the missed schoolwork when he had the energy. Yui went to visit him a lot and would sit silently on his lap, coloring while he read. Ally was finally fitted with the sleek, metal exoskeleton for her leg and was learning to put weight on it again. It was painful at fist, especially since she still had eleven metal pins in it, but she was working hard, they were all working hard towards a better future.

"Ready to get out of here?" Ally asked on the day they were to pick Aria up. Thy had gotten permission to take a little field trip outside of the hospital, but had to be back before 5 PM. "Let's go! Let's go! She's gonna be here soon!" Yui excitedly pushed Ally in the wheelchair out the door. Ronan had to stay behind, as he couldn't leave the hospital. Yui had left him some pictures to color in case he got bored of the textbooks or holo screen. It was strange having a big brother who was so sick, Yui had always imagined Ronan as un-destructible, a force of nature to be reckoned with.

There was quite the flurry of activity when they arrived at the airport. Aria was flanked on every side by reporters, wearing sunglasses so as not to give away the fact that she was blind. One arm was in a sling, it was clear that Aria had already gotten into a fight. "Ari!" Yui called out to her, but Ally touched her shoulder, subtly shaking her head. They didn't want to attract the attention of the media, Ally didn't want Yui to have to find out that someone had tried to kill them through a news reporter. Was it bad to think that Yui was better naive of these things? All Ally wanted to do was preserve her innocence, there was no reson an eleven year old should have to worry about the safety of their life.
