Avery has fine short hair the color of wheat and eyes a clear spring blue. Though this does differ from his parents looks, the lighter coloring does run in the family on both sides. The first born heir stands tall at 6'2 with a lean muscular build and sports a very un-lordly tan. This is testament to his time out in the fields far away from the pampering halls of his family's estate. His rough and tumble looks often lets him get away with not disguising himself since he looks more like a servant than nobility. This isn't helped by the raggedy attire he dons when he leaves the estate for a good ride, a hunt, a duel, or simply be in the forest and lands that his family owns. Avery's features are defined and angular, accenting him in the right places. And also very un-lord like, his hands are calloused from the heavy labor he enjoys and from his sword practice.

Personality
|Honorable ☬ Chivalrous ☬ free-spirited ☬ Protective ☬ Unconventional|

Avery is the first born of the Thatcher family though he doesn't always act like it. Avery is the most free-spirited of the three siblings and cares about good and honest work. As the heir of the Thatcher line, his father was very hard on Avery and took the time to train him in everything he would need to rule the family line. This included learning how to wield the sword, honor, valor, and upholding the law. Both of his parents also contributed in teaching him what it meant to be humble and working for what one desired in life. He got to see first hand the hard labor that the farmers of the land had to toil for but he also got to see the rewards of such work. He got to see the community that came from working with others and being friendly as well as stern. His parents hoped that all of these experiences would make him a humble but honest ruler that weighed merit over coin favors. Their worst fear was that Avery would love money over honor which would ruin their family line with greed.

Over the years, Avery found that he enjoyed the times that he and his father, and then later his siblings, went hunting for game. He loved traveling and seeing the natural world. Increasingly, Avery spent his time in the forest and in the farming field working beside the laborers. He quickly gained rapport from them and they enjoyed working along side Avery. Now his parents have to fight with him to be more presentable and take an interest in politics. Their desire to make him humble worked out but he has become too interested in the simple life for their liking. They often lose sight of him and have to scour the land looking for their wayward heir, wherever he may be working or lounging. Like his parents however, Avery has become quite neutral as to who sits on the throne and is the most neutral of his siblings. He has developed an awareness of many different perspective and doesn't discount any opinion brought to his attention which allows him to think objectively about the situation at hand. This makes him a good leader since he doesn't fall pray to emotional upheaval easily.

Avery can be a calculating person when he wants to however. Because of his ability to take a step back and listen to all perspectives, Avery is able to think without emotional baggage. He can find the best course of action and is often weighing the consequences of actions when they are important. He may enjoy the simple life and prefer wandering the fields to politics, but he has been trained for such and is often the cool and confident person he needs to be when others are watching. Behind the scenes however, Avery is a free-spirit and hates to be tide down, which is why court appeal and politics is so boring for the young man. He likes to explore and experience the world. This has contributed to him being affectionately called the 'Field Lord' by many of his subject.

Avery also takes his vows very seriously. He is a protector of his people and land so he treats everyone like an extension of his family. He believes that to earn respect he must respect others regardless of their position. He will protect his land and people any way he can. He is a teddy bear to everyone and always smiling and letting them request things from him, but this is not to be confused with him being easy to manipulate. He genuinely wants the best for others but as soon as someone tries to turn malicious, Avery will harden. He is a fierce warrior who will protect those he loves no matter the cost to himself. He holds honor and his words highly and does not appreciate those that do not do the same. He will not waver from his beliefs even if it is his parents contradicting him.

The young heir excelled at sword fighting as well and ended up the leader of his father's war band and leads them into battles, should the need arise. As of yet, there hasn't been need for Avery to ride out to war. This skill doesn't go to waste however. His younger siblings are mischief makers so he had ample duties protecting them and getting out of their various messes. Avery loves to practice his swordsmanship and also likes to duel with anyone who wants to try their hand at fighting him. He has also taken up the responsibilities of training his brother to follow in his footsteps though Elliot has little interest in sword fighting. He tries however, to engage the younger man though Avery and him don't often get along.

The Thatcher family was getting closer to their destination and each of them had varying degrees of enthusiasm for the coming events. They ranged from completely ecstatic to bored out of their minds. They were all in the carriage and two of the Thatchers wanted nothing more than to be on the horses dragging this carriage along. Elliot had actually been riding a horse beside it for the first half of the journey but was soon scolded until he was forced back into the carriage for the rest of the trip. And of course, all three children were quite snippy with each other for being crammed so close together. As usual, Ilene was squished between her two brothers. It didn't help that they were all in their finery and the cloths took up more space than clothing should ever take.

Lady Ophelia watched her three rather stubborn children and made sure they had everything in place. She wanted her family to represent themselves in the best light possible. Like any mother she had dreams that her children would rise in status but she did want them to be happy. If none of them married into the royal family, she wouldn't be disappointed. Her family was well off and they had so much to live for. She just wanted to make sure they didn't disgrace themselves. Who knew when next everyone had to meet? Court approval was very important for everyone's futures. She just hoped that Elliot behaved. He was the most troublesome of the group. She smiled lightly. All three of them looked their part, even if Elliot and Avery both looked like they'd die of boredom if they weren't let out soon. It was nice to see all of her children at once and looking dashing. Avery hardly ever wore things like this which was a shame. He had a good figure for it.

Avery himself had his hair combed away from his face to reveal his crystal blue eyes. His ballroom attire was the traditional forest green and russet hues of their house and the armadillo blazon on his chest. He truly looked like their heir for once. Elliot himself wore black as he often did with gold trimmings and trappings. It was honestly much more subdued than his usual attire though he to sported the blazon on his breast. His hair was in its usual side parting so his hair curled in front of his face and caresses his skin lightly. And oh, her precious rose, Ilene. She was always a beauty in her eyes. She had helped her daughter curl her hair so the soft brunette curls cascaded down the left side of her face and were accented with little red blossom clips. Her dress was a deep green and once outside would trail after her steps.

Ilene herself was looking down at her dress and trying to keep it from getting too wrinkled. They would be arriving at the castle soon and she wanted to look amazing when she entered. She glanced down and noticed Avery had ended up sitting on her dress. She gasped and tugged at her dress lightly hoping he was just sitting on a little bit of it but as it happened, he was sitting on a couple of the folds. "Avery! You are sitting on my dress!" she called out in distress.

Aery brought his attention away from the passing nature and looked down at the fabric he was indeed sitting on. "Sorry." Avery sat up so his flustered sister could pull away the fabric before he sat down again.

"Ugh! Men! You are so insensitive about these things! It took forever to get this to sit just perfect and now you wrinkled it."

"I said I was sorry, Ilene. It is not my fault it ended up on my seat. It is just more folds anyway. They always look wrinkled. No one is going to care."

Elliot couldn't help but smirk at this newest argument already brewing. Ilene was always concerned with appearances and even a wrinkle would put her in a tizzy. And being her brother, he couldn't help but join in with his two cents. This would be the most fun they had on this trip. his parents had taken out all the fun after all since he couldn't ride the horse. "Not all men are as inconsiderate of finery, Ilene. But if men bother you so much, you could always get in bed with another woman. Think of all the great conversations you'll have about wrinkles and curves." he interjected with a grin.

"Elliot!" Ilene gasped and smacked him lightly on the arm, scolding him for bringing up such things. "Don't speak like that! Don't even think like that! Oh, what if the royal family heard you? You need to bite your tongue."

"Bite my tongue? I'd rather it if the prince bit my tongue for me. Maybe my crass tongue will earn me a night in his bed."

Avery chuckled lightly and turned his gaze back to the window. Before Ilene could retort, cheeks inflamed, Lord William cleared his throat and sat up. Lady Ophelia looked positively green with the conversation. "Elliot, that is enough. You will not talk about such things here. We are almost at the castle. We expect the three of you will be on your best behavior. that includes being respectable and proper, Elliot. It is enough that you.... experiment, at home."

Elliot rolled his eyes and set his jaw in a firm line as he crossed his arms. He returned his gaze to the window a bit annoyed. Of all the things he did, they always picked on the one thing that he couldn't change. Women didn't excite him no matter how they tried to change his bed habits. It wasn't his fault and he hadn't chosen it. He sighed inwardly and the family continued on in silence until they finally reached the castle gates. The carriage came to a stop and the doors were opened for the family. The heads of the household were the first to exit followed by their two sons. Avery then helped his sister out before he clasped his hands behind him. The family then headed towards the steps with their escort leading the way. As was customary, the escort was the first to enter so that he may begin the introductions.

"My king and queen, The noble house of the South, has arrived. It is my pleasure to introduce the Lord and Lady Thatcher."

Lord William moved forward to give a bow as his wife curtsied. "Your highness, we are honored that you would invite our humble family to your thriving court. It has been a long time since we have seen the two of you and it lightens my heart to see you both well," Lord William greeted with a smile. The escort cleared his throat then to finish his introductions. "I now introduce Avery Thatcher, valiant protector and heir to the noble house of the armadillo."

Avery moved forward and gave the customary bow, straight as an arrow. "Your Grace, Your Majesty, it is an honor to meet you in person. I can only hope to serve to the best of my ability and hold up my family's honor and continue to protect those in need." He moved to stand beside his parents then as the next introduction began.

"I now introduce Lady Ilene Thatcher, rose of the Thather house."

Ilene gave a curtsy and bowed her head though her back remained just as straight as her brother's. "Good afternoon, your Grace, Your Majesty. I am humbled to be in your presence. We have all heard the tales of your valor and bravery and they are inspiring. Your Majesty, your beauty and your strength in mind and body are truly admirable and I can only hope to achieve a fraction of your determination," Ilene complimented. She may be seen as kissing ass but she truly did admire the queen. She strove to be just like her. She had seen few other women as strong and determined as she. She hoped she learned much from her. With another curtsy, she hurried to her family's side so that Elliot to may be introduced.

"And lastly, the youngest son of the Thatcher abode, Elliot Thatcher," the escort said.

Elliot stepped forward as the rest of his family had and gave a bow. He wasn't quite sure what he should say. He didn't want to disgrace his family but he was sure that Ilene brown-nosed enough for the lot of them. "It is an honor to be introduced to you. I am but the youngest whelp of my family and cannot boast of my skill and should be beyond the notice of two so high." With his kissing up complete, he joined his family and waited. It seemed they were the third family to arrive so they had to wait for everyone else.

Avery was zoning out bored at that point, Ilene was happy that Elliot hadn't embarrassed them all and Elliot just wanted the dancing to begin. Avery would much rather be tending to the fields. That was useful. This dancing and parading around was useless. It was a show of power and everyone was here just to get their kids married to the princess or one of the the two princes. He wasn't interested in being a show piece. He didn't want to marry someone who was all about parties and appearances like his sister either. He wanted the freedom to be out of these stuffy clothing and out of courtly traps.

The two younger siblings glanced around the rest of their company while Avery glared at a wall and Ilene caught sight of one of the other noble sons looking at her and making a flirty gesture. She arched an eyebrow at him before she turned her head away to show she was not interested in small fry like him. her eyes were aiming for Prince Rhaegar. She knew Avery would not aim for the throne so it would practically be hopeless to assume that he would go after Princess
Gwendolynn. Besides, Rhaegar was first in line for the throne. Marrying him would ensure her place as the next queen. She hoped she could get to him before the other women arriving.

Elliot however, had noticed Arys to and had debated on making a flirting hint back though it was obvious the man was fishing for the women gathered. As he debated, Elliot's eyes found someone else. He gave a double take before he let his eyes roam over the fine man. He was standing with the Allyrion family. Was he the son? He looked positively dashing. He was fashionably dressed and Elliot couldn't take his eyes off of him. There were two men there though. He thought the Allyrion family had only one son. Who was the son then? Who was this tall dark and handsome man? He did seem to be standing slightly apart from the rest of them? Did that mean he was a servant? He couldn't wait for the dancing to begin so he could get to know this intriguing stranger.

The sunsets were different here. Back in the Marshlands, the sun had caught in the water, flooding the ground like spilled honey wine. The color had been a sphere, reflected above and below, catching the people of the Marsh in idyllic phosphorescence. Here, it tugged at the edge of every rising building, sending shadows tumbling across the horizon. It tucked into the cracks and bathed the streets in tortoiseshell light. Same sun. Same sky. One couldn't say the same for all the rest.

Both girls' attentions were out the window, focused intently on the city that was to become their temporary home. Or permanent, if their mother had her way.

Right now, the Lady Beatrice was with her husband in a separate carriage, whilst her two daughters sat in their own. Suffice to say, both the girls' were somewhat relieved by the development, for neither were fond of their lady mother's consistent, and occasionally belittling nagging. Just this morning she had looked over their gowns, a neat furrow between her slim brows, lip pursing in deliberation. The days prior she had been more lenient. Anna had been permitted to ride horseback for some of the journey, and Claere had sat spawled out across the carriage seats, feet kicked up and nose in a book. But today was the day they were to meet the royal family, and such antics were, as far as Beatrice was considered, forbidden.

So they sat, backs straight and hands in lap, attires immaculate and manners perfect... for a time. Annalys fidgeted in her seat, impatience and boredom clear on her face.

"How long?" She said simply, a soft whine caught in her voice. Claere scoffed. "Isn't it green boys that talk like that? Is this trip making you that nostalgic?"

Anna pouted, before sticking up her nose indignantly. "I wish I was a little green boy. Then my legs wouldn't be so cramped." "I'd prefer it too. If that were the case, I wouldn't have to share this carriage with you." Anna stuck out her tongue, and turned her attention back to the window. Just as quickly, she let out an excited squeal. "Oh! Oh, look! It's there! We're here!"

Claere's curiosity spiked, and she looked out her own window. The memories flooded into her mind, the damn destroyed, thoughts flushing in. And with them came an odd sense of nervousness. She shut it out as quickly as it came.

By the time they entered the ballroom, it was already occupied, and for a brief moment Claere found the eyes unsettling. She felt her mother's presence, and the woman's hushed whisper, barely audible over the intense bootlicking occurring within the room. "Remember, we are in the presence of the future king." And your future husband. Claere knew the end of the sentence, the unspoken addition to her mother's whisper. The woman was determined, Claere would give her that. But perhaps also delusional. Claere was fairly certain that Lady Beatrice would have better luck trying Annalys. The younger Cavalier seemed far more potentially adept at seducing royalty. "How could I possibly forget?" She responded softly without turning her head.

"Presenting James and Beatrice Cavalier, Lord and Lady of the Marshes in the East." The boy that presented them was handsome in his naivety, face clearly forcing a level of formality to cloak his excitement. He was the youngest of James' squires, and the son of Lord Ulric Debony, of Debony House. He also had a starry-eyed crush of Annalys. Like every other man in the Blackvale.

"Your Grace," Lord James bowed formally, a soft smile on his lips. "It has been too long." Lady Beatrice curtsied beside him as he added, "I thank you and your family for inviting us here. May I introduce you to my daughters, my eldest, Lady Claere, and youngest, Lady Annalys." The two curtsied on their queues, and from her lowered stance, Claere spoke up to the royals, tone polite. "My king and queen, it is an honor to meet you and your family, however I am afraid that I cannot hope to best that which has already been said."

The King and Queen stood patiently waiting before their thrones. Magnus, unlike his wife, kept shifting in his formal clothing. He was never one to be a fan of the royal attire, much like his children. But Guinevere always dressed like the Goddess she thought she was.

The first family to arrive was the Chaimbers of the Western Bluffs. The family was lead in by the eldest son who carried himself in a very proud and head held high type of manner. He proceeded to present each of his family members to them, "Lord Charles Chaimbers, the lord of bears. Lady Jocelyn Chaimbers, Lady of the bluffs and mother of bears." The Lord and Lady entered the great hall and bowed before the King and Queen. Magnus and Guinevere then gave them the same courtesy. Lady Jocelyn also presented their eldest son to them, although they both knew him quite well. He knelt before them as he was announced. "Ser Sebastian Chaimbers, heir to the bluffs and guard to his majesty. The future lord of bears."

King Magnus smiled warmly towards the parent Chaimber's and also his guard member Sebastian. Guinevere's gaze though never seemed to leave Sebastian's and some might say there was even a hint of a smile behind those fierce eyes of hers. But no one, not even the king would notice and she'd deny it if asked otherwise. The young man bowed once more before making his way towards his siblings and presenting the young unknown faces to their Highnesses. "Lady Brienne, the beautiful snowy bear of the bluffs." The young lady no doubt lived up to the snowy bear reputation. Magnus let a smile slip as she was presented in riding clothing, something that he could relate too due to hating formal clothing. But Guinevere had to fight every urge in her body to send the child to get bathed and changed. The Queen's taste was uptight, particular and narcissistic.

The last of the children practically kicked open the doors into the great hall, strutting his way towards the King and Queen, slipping winks to any woman in the room. "Ser Arys Chaimbers, the little cub knight of House Chaimbers and little lord of the bluffs." Sebastian gave his younger brother's title, and Arys felt the need to add another title to the list, "Don't forget the undefeated knight and god of tits and wine." Although Guinevere's cold and statue like facade didn't crack, Magnus let slip a deep and hearty chuckle. "Oh my boy. You and my son Brom will get along just fine. Do you not agree my dear?" She simply scoffed while forcing a slight smile. "Of course. Brienne felt the need to apologize for her blunt younger brother's actions. "I apologize for the behavior of my brothers, your majesty. They are simply little boys who don't know how to act properly around real men." Now this caused the Queen to stifle her own laugh. "I like this one." She nodded her head towards the fair headed beauty.

Following the Chaimbers came the Allyrions, which brought a small smile to Magnus' face. Lucien was the first of the family to enter the hall and kneel before the king. Magnus no longer felt the need to stand like an overbearing statue. He stepped down to place his hands upon Lucien's shoulders and give them a gentle pat. "Thank you for escorting your family to the Keep." Lucien then first announced his father, although he need no introduction. "Your honor, may I present to you House Allyrion of The North... A friend, family, and close ally to his grace... Lord Ramsay Allyrion. The Lord of Wolves and Roses, Warden of The North, and former commander to his king's royal army." Ramsay did not bow, but Magnus wouldn't want it as such. He simply said, "It's been too long, Magnus." Magnus pulled Ramsay into an embrace, patting his back. "Ramsay, you bastard. You must learn to come South more often. There is always a place for you in my home, and at my table old friend."

"Lord Varro Allryion. Lord of Wolves, Heir to The North, and newest commander of the king's royal army." Varro knelt as Lucien presented him. "It is an honor to be in your presence, your grace. I hope to serve you as well as my father has." Magnus smiled, "If you are even a fraction of the man your Father is I would not doubt it." Varro then stood to address the Queen, "My queen, your beauty and grace is even more alluring than the rumors have claimed. Truly unmatched." He then bowed towards her. Guinevere smiled at the charming compliment, "Aren't you a sweet young man."

The last to be presented from the Allyrion family was the young daughter. Guinevere already approved of the young lady's ability to dress modest and yet alluring in everywhere that she appreciated. The girl curtsied before them as Lucien gave her introduction. "lastly, I present to you the famous beauty of The House Allyrion... Lady Freya Allyrion. The rose of The North who's beauty is as pure as her heart." She then spoke towards the King and Queen, "It is a great honor to be before you, My Lord. My father has told many valiant stories of your heroics during the war. I thank you kindly for inviting our family to join you in this splendid festivities and I hope we bring honor to our house hold for your courtesy." Magnus nodded his head with a thankful smile. "Thank you my dear."

Freya then turned to address the Queen. "Lucien speaks far too highly of me as my beauty could never compare to yours, your highness. You are the embodiment of what all women hope to achieve and I hope I can accomplish merely a fraction of what your grace has done." Guinevere was flattered, stepping down from where she stood to take the young woman's hands in here. "My little flower, if I was half as beautiful as you are at your age I would of had the world in the palm of my hand. And your gown is darling. You must let me show you my wardrobe someday... Some of my gowns from when I was your age will fit you much better than they will me." The Queen gave the girl a friendly kiss on either cheek, before releasing her hands and preparing for the next guests to arrive.

It was then that the Lords of the South entered. "My king and queen, The noble house of the South, has arrived. It is my pleasure to introduce the Lord and Lady Thatcher." They both bowed and curtsied before William spoke, "Your highness, we are honored that you would invite our humble family to your thriving court. It has been a long time since we have seen the two of you and it lightens my heart to see you both well." The King replied with a smile and head nod. "As for you and your lovely wife. I'm glad to know the South agrees with you all so and we humbly welcome you to our home." The escort then introduced the Thatcher children. "I now introduce Avery Thatcher, valiant protector and heir to the noble house of the armadillo." Avery gave his bow like all those before him, "Your Grace, Your Majesty, it is an honor to meet you in person. I can only hope to serve to the best of my ability and hold up my family's honor and continue to protect those in need." "I'm sure you have as much honor as your Father, whom is one of the most honorable men I know." The King replied warmly.

"I now introduce Lady Ilene Thatcher, rose of the Thatcher house." The escort announced. "Good afternoon, your Grace, Your Majesty. I am humbled to be in your presence. We have all heard the tales of your valor and bravery and they are inspiring. Your Majesty, your beauty and your strength in mind and body are truly admirable and I can only hope to achieve a fraction of your determination." The Queen gently cupped the girl's face, a soft smile gracing her lips. "I hope to be a suitable role model for such a young blossoming beauty. Words cannot describe the warmth your admiration brings to my heart.""And lastly, the youngest son of the Thatcher abode, Elliot Thatcher," The escort said. "It is an honor to be introduced to you. I am but the youngest whelp of my family and cannot boast of my skill and should be beyond the notice of two so high." Elliot's comment made Magnus chuckle slightly.

Then came the Cavaliers of Eastmarsh, presented by a young boy. "Presenting James and Beatrice Cavalier, Lord and Lady of the Marshes in the East." Lord James bowed, "Your Grace, It has been too long." Magnus gave him a friendly embrace, with a pat on the shoulder. "That is has old friend. Glad you came to stay with us for the season." Lady Beatrice added, "I thank you and your family for inviting us here. May I introduce you to my daughters, my eldest, Lady Claere, and youngest, Lady Annalys." The eldest daughter then also had something to add, "My king and queen, it is an honor to meet you and your family, however I am afraid that I cannot hope to best that which has already been said." Guinevere smiled slightly. "That is quite alright my dear. We are happy to receive you all the same."

The Queen wasn't so well composed as her husband when the Davernys arrived. They never were found of the crown, and at least to Guinevere's opinion, neither was she of them. Their squire proceeded to introduce them. "Introducing Lord Hector and Lady Elena Daverny of the Misty Isles!" Magnus did not miss the curl in Hector's lips as he bowed, but he paid it no mind as Hector spoke. "We thank you for this opportunity, your grace" Then the more composed of the two, Elena, stepped forward to present her children. "These are our children, Our eldest Lady Marynn, our eldest son Lord Howell and youngest Lord Benjamin.....We are all very honored to be here." The children all bowed, the King and Queen nodding their heads in response. "Honored to have you." Magnus smiled towards them.

After what seemed like the only families that were going to arrive on time had shown up, Magnus guided his wife back up the steps to their thrones, his hand resting at the small of her back. Guinevere whispered to her husband in hushed tones so only he could hear as they made their way up the stairs, "If those... pirates... steal anything-" Magnus cut her off with a sharp order. "Hold your tongue or you will spend the rest of summer in solitude." The Queen wanted to argue and dispute the fact but there were guests all around. No matter how much she thought she ran the kingdom, Magnus had the final say in anything and everything. He hated being assertive with his wife, but she often had a forked tongue like a serpents that could get their entire family in harms way.

Magnus gave her a stern look before turning to face his guests, arms spread out wide in warm welcome, his face accompanied in a friendly smile. "Welcome my most honored guests! It warms the heart to see old friends joined at my hearth and home. It is a pleasure to have met all of your wonderful children, and I hope that by the end of this long season we shall be a closer and stronger Kingdom." Words so plain could have so many meanings. Magnus hoped feuds would be looked beyond, bonds of marriage and friendship to replace them. That, after all, was his reason for bringing so many powerful families to their home. "From now on please do not feel to walk on eggshells around us. We are no different than the rest of you. I welcome you all to simply call us... Magnus and Guinevere. There is no need to dress upon ceremony for us. Our home is your home. Guinevere, unlike her husband, did not appreciate that at all. She barely tolerated him calling her by her name let alone some of these people... or Pirates. "I would also like to apologize for the absence of my children upon your arrival. Being the stubborn children they are, of course they were not prepared for your arrival. But should be arriving any moment."

As he continued to speak, some of the lesser noble families from the Vale began to file into the hall, along with musicians and other guests. Servants placed mountains of assorted food upon the tables for feasting and even some performers patiently waited along the edges of the hall. "To celebrate your arrival we have decided to throw a feast and ball in all of your honor!" The King motioned to all of his guests.

It was at this moment that the large double doors at the end of the hall opened and one of the Keep's squires stepped forward. "Your Grace, your Majesty. My lords and Ladies, I present to you Rhaegar Castillon, eldest child and son to your King and Queen, and heir to The Blackvale." Rhaegar sighed as he stood in the shadows of the hall on the opposite sides of the door, awkwardly shifting his formal clothing. When the squire had finished announcing him, he cleared his throat, adjusted his crown and stepped into the hall, in view of the entire crowd. As he walked through the center of the room he could feel all eyes on him. After all he was the reason half of them were there, all waiting to tear at him like beasts at a chance to raise their family names higher.

Once Rhaegar had nearly reached his parents, the squire called out once again. "I also present to you Brom Castillon, the second born child to your King and Queen, twin to Rhaegar, heir of The Blackvale and head of the King's Guard." Brom was practically bursting at the seems at a chance to strut his way into the main hall. So once his name was said, he hooked his thumb on his belt and walked through the crowd like a celebrity, a constant smirk plastered upon his face. In no time he caught up to Rhaegar, patting him on the back. "I think I'm the hotter twin." Rhaegar looked over at him, cracking a smile and laughing softly. When they reached the King and Queen, the first thing out of Guinevere's mouth was, "Where in the world is your sister!?" She practically hissed. The twins looked at each other then towards their mother shrugging their shoulders.

Gwendolynn hurried around her bed chambers in a mad tizzy when her hand maiden said sheepishly, "Your Grace." She whirled past her, fastening a necklace around her neck, stumbling over the train of her dress every few steps. "One moment Francine." The women waited a second and then said it again, "Please your Grace." Gwen hurried to her armoire, grabbing her crown and placing it on her head. "YOUR GRACE!" She spun around, "What!?" The women looked down at her hands. "...You're late, my Lady." "WHAT!?" Without a seconds hesitation, she darted out of her room and down the hall. "My lady your shoes!" She called after Gwen, who turned around holding out her arms as Francine tossed her her shoes.

A blur of red hair raced through the halls, and took on the main stairs in groups of 3-5. How she did it without falling in that ridiculous dress was beyond her. As Gwendolynn came skidding towards the double doors that lead towards the main hall, she scooped up the train of her dress, hopping as she slipped on her shoes. The squire, seeing her come went to reach for the door. "No percy!" But by that moment she was too late. He had stepped through the doors and proceeded to announce her arrival. "I present to you Gwendolynn Castillon, youngest child and only daughter to your King and Queen."

Gwendolynn stepped forward adjusting her crown, and the moment she saw all the eyes on her she froze. She stood still until she realized she forgot to breath, taking in a sharp gasp. She twiddles her fingers under the large sleeves of the silk dress as she slowly walked through the sea of people. Gwen could feel her cheeks reddening with each step and judgmental gaze from her mother. She raised a hand to brush back loose curls that fell before her face from her sprint to the great hall. "Now that everyone has arrived. Perhaps my sons would delight us all by asking two fair young ladies to start the dancing." Guinevere motioned for her sons to go amongst the crowd and choose a dancing partner. No doubt it had to be one of the noble daughters.

Rhaegar knew that he had to ask a noble daughter, but he his eyes set on a certain one. The one in silk with the red hair. An easy out perhaps to dance with his sister, but she was the most beautiful one there and a safe choice, because her much like him did not like the idea of being auctioned off. Brom must have had the same idea, because he too walked straight towards their sister. When they were merely feet away, the Queen called out, "Not your sister." It took everything in her not to go smack both boys across the head. Sure they knew better, but it was her fault she didn't clarify.

Huffing to himself, Rhaegar rolled his eyes at his mother's comment. He then smiled towards his sister, stepping towards her, he cupped her face in his hands. "You are the most beautiful woman in the room dear sister." He placed a kiss upon her head, before walking away and searching the room for someone to ask to dance. He didn't like being under this sort of pressure, and no doubt everyone was waiting with baited breath to see whom he'd choose. Once his gaze set upon the snowy white haired Chaimbers daughter, he made his way towards her. No doubt his mother would be displeased with his choice, especially because she wasn't properly but Rhaegar didn't care. Upon reaching her, he flipped the right side of his cloak back over his shoulder. He then bowed before her, extending his right hand towards her. "May I have this dance my Lady?"

Brom too scoffed at their mother's demand for them not to ask their sister. Instead of telling her she's beautiful, Brom being the good older brother he is, leaned in an whispered in her ear. "You nearly look like a lady." Under any other circumstances, Gwendolynn would have tackled him right there. But instead she tried to remain as ladylike as possible, whispering back. "Not nearly as much as you." She smirked towards him as he scowled at her. Brom gave her a playful nudge before glancing around at the guests. When his gaze set on Freya, she no doubt was the most beautiful woman there in his eyes and being the gentleman he is, he walked straight to her with a direct gaze. When standing before her, he flipped the tail of his jacket back as he bowed. Brom then extended his hand towards her in silent offering to dance, "The most beautiful woman here should have all eyes on her."

Gwendolynn new a proper lady would stand there and wait until a gentleman asked her to dance. But Gwen... wasn't a proper lady. Her gaze scanned the crowd, gauging each male and the reaction her mother would give her if she approached them. She stopped searching when she saw the Davernys. She had no desire to be within 10 feet of the drunken one, but the other one... The older one. He was definitely one of the more attractive men here and being part of a pirate family would make her mother's skin crawl. So with as much confidence as she could muster, Gwen made a bee line straight for Howell. She could feel her mothers gaze drilling into the back of her head as she curtsied before him, then held out her delicate hand. "I hope you like to dance."

Freya was rather pleased with herself and her father seemed to be as well of Freya so easily gaining some favor with the queen. Being on the good side of the queen would aid her conquest of being a queen herself. The queen she deserved to be. Varro on the other hand, was more worried about being in the same room as Brienne and attempting not to want to strangle her pale neck. While Lucien was busy avoiding the eye contact of a very handsome young noble as to not draw suspicion.

The doors of the hall opened and in came lesser nobles and servants with foods and decorations while the king had continued on with the speech the Allyrion's had managed to tune out. "To celebrate your arrival we have decided to throw a feast and ball in all of your honor!" Freya's eyes lit up at the mention of the ball. Surely she would get her chance to dace with the prince and everything would go according to her plan. Varro was less pleased when his father grabbed his arm and whispered into his ear, "Be sure to ask Lady Brienne for a dance."

The two princes had been announced and Varro was unsteady about having to walk over to Brienne after the princes chose their accompaniments while Freya seemed rather distracted which wasn't like her. Varro followed her gaze and finally saw what held his sisters breathe so tightly and threatened her safe little secret. Freya had been taken away by they sheer beauty of none other than Annalys Cavalier. A young flower who's beauty could quite possibly rival his sisters and Freya seemed completely enchanted by her until her attention had been snapped right back to the prince knelt down before her.

Prince Brom was standing before Freya in all his handsome glory blocking Freya's view of the beautiful flower she spotted from across the room. "The most beautiful woman here should have all eyes on her." In an idealistic world, Freya would strut across the room and ask the fair maiden to join her in a dance but this world was not ideal and Freya unfortunately had to play her part as a noblewoman and marry a man her heart could never beat for. Freya seemed fine with the idea so long as it was the prince... Though she was hoping for the other one.

Brom flung his cape back and knelt before her with an extended hand. She's heard tales of the womanizer he was but Freya gladly took his hand and followed him towards the center of the ballroom. He was as handsome as the rumors claimed and Freya could surely use him in her favor of getting close to Rhaegar if needed. Manipulating a man who coveted wine and sex above all is child's play. "If the most beautiful girl here deserves all eyes on her... Then I must not be her." She smirked at him as her eyes fell onto Brienne Chaimbers. "Surely the one who catches the eye of Blackvale's heir must be the most beautiful in the room."

Varro watched his sister dance with the prince completely forgetting he needed to ask a girl to dance. He figured he'd please his father for today but it seemed the devilish little Brienne caught the attention of Prince Rhaegar in her riding rags. Varro was actually relieved by this but now he needed to find a new woman to ask. He could ask one of the Cavalier girls which would please his father or maybe Ilene Thatcher. She was quite the beauty and also a safe choice but Varro went a completely different route as he walked across the room and found himself before a pirate.

His fur cape swung back with a swift motion of his arm as he bowed before Marynn Daverny doing his best to seem poised and confident. "My lady, would you honor me in a dance?" He wasn't really sure how to address her and he hoped he hadn't offended her. It seemed a bit ridiculous for the commander of the royal army to be asking a pirate to dance but Varro actually fond her to be intriguing since the moment she walked through the doors. There was something fiery about her that he liked and it also meant pissing off his father which was going to make this all the more entertaining.

Lucien was standing out on his own at the edge of the ball. He was their as a guard and he had no real status to be allowed to ask any noble woman to dance. He snickered to himself when Gwen had come down the steps nearly taking his breathe away only to ask a pirate to dance. He could see her mother practically fuming which made Lucien smirk ever so slightly as he stood at his post watching the guests twirl around with such grace and beauty.

How long had it been, since so much beauty occupied the same room? Annalys looked over the fair ladies and proud gentlemen, a smile on her lips and excitement in her eyes. Her mother had always deemed material objects true things of loveliness; intricate jewelry and fine garments and glittering decorations. But to Annalys, beauty was a thing of flesh. The ruby tint in a woman's cheeks, the glitter in a man's smile, the smoothness of skin and the sparkle of eyes.

Which is why she felt so at home here, in her own personal Eden, where ruby-tinted cheeks and glittering smiles were numerous and close. And there was a particular beauty; a lady of Allyrion House, who watched her with a delightfully flattering lack of subtlety. Annalys met the girl's eyes, lips curving into a mischievous smile, and bowing her head in flirtatious greeting. Her feet seemed to move of their own accord, and she made a step toward Freya, only for the latter girl's attention to be stolen away by none other than Prince Brom.

Annalys scowled, muttering in annoyance, "Spoilsport. I saw her first."

Claere laughed dryly, squeezing her sister's shoulder in joking support. "Never fear, dear sister. I'm sure you will get your chance to dance with the fair lady before the night is through..." She leaned to whisper teasingly in her ear, "... Supposing that Prince Peacock doesn't win her over first."

Annalys raised a brow, and turned to her sister, scowl replaced by a competitive expression. "Is that a challenge?"

Claere shrugged, wry smile on her lips, only to jump when their mother seemingly appeared from nowhere. "Would you care to explain to me why exactly neither of you are dancing?"

"Well, I would be if not for Mister Cock over the-" "Ahhh-" Claere quickly interrupted, searching for words as she shot her sister a look that clearly asked, What are you saying? Do you want to die? "We were just preparing our... ah... etiquette, mother." Her mother frowned, but seemed to accept the flimsy excuse. "Very well. Finish preparing, then. And swiftly."

As she left, Annalys allowed a scoff. "'Preparing our etiquette'?" "At least I didn't call the second-in-line to the throne 'Mister Cock'." Annalys stiffled another laugh, and hid it behind a sheepish smile. "Fine, fine. Fair enough."

...

"...Now, would you say that our etiquette is well and truly prepared, or..." "Shut up."

Now this had turned into one exciting time to start. Their seemed to be a high abundance of gorgeous women ripe for Arys' plucking though the late entrance of Princess Gwendolyn Castillon was what really caught the attention of the devious little knight. He held his head high has he made a casual strut to be the one to ask her for a dance when she seemed to ignore his a presence. Something no woman would ever do. She instead brushed past and asked the pirate for a dance. Their she was in an elegant dress and red locks with beauty Arys had never seen before and she asked a pirate for a dance over the illustrious knight with his handsome locks and ability to woo any woman. Except for her it would seem. "How is this even possible? How could she brush past me for a pirate far less handsome than I?"

A hand fell upon his should with a snicker that hissed like the snake it came from. "Women do not desire little cub's with arrogant tongues and false eyes over the judgments of their own reflection." Arys' head turned back to look upon his nuisance of an older brother. "But they seem to desire devious snakes with false tongues and looks not even a mother could praise." His eyes lured his brother over to the queen before landing back to watch Sebastian's face form into a scowl and his grip tighten in hopes of causing his brother pain. "If you two don't hold your tongues, I will hold them for you... With daggers." Arys could feel his brother's grip loosen before finally letting go. Sebastian knew better than to anger Brienne. Her threats were never something to take lightly. Not even with witnesses surrounding them. She had their mother to thank for that. Brienne had another sharp comment prepared if something unexpected hadn't happened...

There he was. Prince Rhaegar Castillon dressed like a prince should ready to pick a woman to dance and he was coming straight towards Brienne. She could hardly believe it even when he was there knelt before her. "May I have this dance my Lady?" The prince was asking her to dance? But she was dressed in her god awful riding rags? Why would he choose her? "It would be my honor, your grace." Brienne curtsied before him as she took hold of his large strong hand and allowed him to lead her to the center of the ballroom floor for a dance as the instruments commenced. She had been caught completely off guard and couldn't believe she had been the first one to draw the prince's attention so quickly but she managed to compose herself just as quickly. She admired how he moved as she gazed upon his breathtaking eyes and studied every feature as if she were stuck in a dream until she finally blurted out the question in the back of her mind. "So why would a prince ask a lady dressed in riding rags to dance over every other fair maiden in this room? I do hope it's not only for the sake of creating spite in your mother." Her lips curled into a subtle smirk as she asked the question. She could see the queen was upset about her son's choice so it seemed only fitting to ask the question.

Arys was left in the sidelines once more as it seemed even his sister was favored by royalty over him so now he was left with the task of finding a maiden for him to so cleverly sway. His first choice fell upon Ilene Thatcher. She was a beautiful young woman and an exciting challenge but she seemed more interested in catching the attention of a prince like many of the other ladies. Arys had hoped to then go after Freya Allyrion. The woman who'd made an exciting flirtatious glance at him earlier but she captured the attention of the other prince. This left Cavaliers which Arys gladly made his way over to. He stood before them with a theatrical bow as he went to take each of their hands and plant a light kiss upon the back of them. "The onfamous flowers from the marshes of the east... Will either of you care to join a valiant knight for a dance?" Each of them had a unique beauty that Arys could not choose between so he addressed both of them. "Both of you could accompany me if you so choose. I have two strong arms from the perils of the arena for each of you to hold." He spoke confidently with a plastered smirk as he worked his famous arrogant charm.

Sebastian was the last of the Chaimbers as his glances were stolen away by the beauty of his queen but he was much too clever than to ask her for a dance as he so desired. Instead, he found his wife Myrcella Chaimbers hidden in the outskirts of the room as he knelt before her and took her hand. "My beautiful wife and love that holds my whole heart... Will you do me the great honor in accompanying me for a dance so that I may show off your beauty that puts other women to shame?" She chuckled at his charms as she took his hand. "There is no man I would ever allow myself to dance with other than you, my love." The two went out into the ballroom as they danced and Sebastian twirled her around like she was his queen and the holder of the heart he claimed to have. Though the little dream faded soon enough and a vile smirk came across his wife's lips and she whispered into his ear. "I do wonder, my love... Will my bed be filled with a man as strong as a bear ready to help me bare sons or will he be in the bed of her grace tonight?"

Ilene was practically squealing in her delight. The queen had notice her! She had gotten the queen's favor! She even cupped her face like a mother would for her loving daughter! Oh, she was so happy to have gained the notice of her role model. Of course she loved her mother and she to was a role model for Ilene, but she wanted to be queen! If the queen favored her, she had a chance to get close the the heir! She was so close, she could taste it! And she couldn't wipe the vibrant smile off of her face as her family moved away to their little corner as the royal heirs were then introduced. Both were quite handsome but Ilene favored Rhaegar of course. He was the one in line for the throne and oh, he was so handsome. He looked like a glorious prince, what with his tall and dark locks. He was polished and looked like he took his role seriously. Simply beautiful.

Avery to found himself staring at the royalty, but one in particular. Gwendolynn was stunning. He had never seen a beauty like hers. He had no love of the power mongering and originally, had no interest in her but to see her in the flesh... she was truly the most beautiful person in the room. Then again, it was just her physical appearance. What was behind those polished jewels and political smile? He didn't want another girl in his life that only cared about events such as these and looking 'pretty'. He was far more interested in learning more about her on a personal level, gauge who she was as a person. He shook his head to himself. This was all politics. She wouldn't tell the truth. Then again... he would try and find a way to ask her for a dance before the night was out. Or maybe... maybe not. He wanted to distance himself from the fight that would no doubt ensue. Maybe he'd find a way to talk to her another way. He didn't want her to think he was like everyone else, even if he didn't decide to pursue her in any manner.

Then the royal heirs began to pick their dance partners. Ilene straightened herself and tried to look like the most appropriate choice. She had noticed full well that many of the other noble women looked amazing as well. Her family was humble; the nobility of agriculture. The other nobility names probably carried more weight than hers but she didn't doubt that she could challenge each one of them with her sharp tongue. And with the queen's favor, she still had a chance. Unfortunately for her, both princes did not spare her a second glance as they picked their partners. Of course one would pick Brienne. She was truly beautiful... And Freya to. They had been the ones she had felt the most rivalry with as well. A soft pout touched her lips at the events. No matter. She may have lost the first battle to gain the attention of the crowned prince, but she wasn't going to give up.

Their parents then moved forward and touched each of their children. "Make sure you do dance and have fun. Avery, watch over your sister," his mother instructed. The three watched as their parents then took to the dance to leave the children to their own devices. Avery himself glanced around at each of the families but it seemed like all of them had suitors. That was good at least. That meant he didn't have anyone he had to ask... unless one of the Cavalier girls refused Arys. Then there would be another woman who did not have a dance partner but Avery didn't much care for that. He would just watch and wait. Maybe he could get some information. He was surprised that Gwendolynn had gone and asked someone to dance and her choice was rather intriguing. He wondered why she picked him instead of one of the more 'proper' nobility. He could sense something was amiss between the family relationships already.

Ilene sighed to herself and accepted the glass of wine Avery passed down to her from the tray that a servant was bringing around and held her head proud. She would wait until one of the other lords asked her but all that was left was a pirate from what she could see and she would not dance with one of them. He was not interested in dirty, smelly, and improper men. And now she felt a bit... deflated. No one. Not a single other person had approached her. Why? She was just as beautiful as the other women. What did they have that she didn't? Elliot on the other hand, found light in his sister's plight.

"Oh sister, what's the matter? Looks like you didn't turn Rhaegar head, or any nobles for that matter," he teased.

"Oh shut up, you little flea," she called back to him and earned a grin from Elliot.

"Oh, such hurtful words! Is that any way to act like a lady?"

"At least I gained the favor of the queen. That is more than either of you have done."

"Ilene, Elliot, now is not the time." Avery sighed, hoping to quell an argument or worse, a dare, before it arose.

Elliot just chuckled, a mischievous glint in his eyes. Oh dear. "Yes, you did gain her favor, didn't you? Why don't you go ask her for a dance then? She is standing right there."

Ilene gasped, her hand flying to her throat. "Elliot! I would never!"

"Oh come on! Are you too afraid? I'll go up to her then," he answered and started to do just that.

Both Ilene and Avery moved forward then to grip Elliot's arm and stop him from doing such a brash action. Either the queen would be flattered or aghast and Avery may not care about court appeal but even he didn't want to risk the ire of the king or queen by doing something foolish. Elliot just gave a cheeky grin. "What? She's a woman. She's not dancing. We are supposed to be asking people to dance."

"You are crossing a line, Elliot. Mother and Father will have your head if you do it. Besides, you may earn the family ire from the king and queen if they don't take kindly to it."

"But I could also earn favor with the gamble. I would be showing off confidence and assertion," he countered.

"Elliot...." Ilene said sharply and squeezed his arm. "Do not ruin our chances."

"Fine! Fine. I won't do it. I don't want to dance with her anyway. You're lucky I have my eye on someone already," he smiled before he pulled away from his siblings and began to make his way to the outskirts of the dancing. He had his eyes on one person and he knew he had caught the man's eye earlier. Ever since, the man had been trying to avoid his eye contact. Or at least he assumed so because he kept looking everywhere else but at him. His heart skipped a beat. There were many handsome men in the room, but none as handsome as this creature. Not even the princes could compare, in his opinion. He knew that this could still earn him some looks. Negative looks. He wasn't going to back down however. He would be himself and stick to it. Elliot stopped walking when he was beside the man in question, Lucien Snow. He didn't know the man's name, but he had been standing beside the Allyrion family but now he had moved away a bit so he couldn't be the son.

Elliot put on his best suave smile and glanced a the man before he turned his gaze back to the dance floor. "Hello, Stranger," he cooed to him. "I couldn't help but notice you across the way. You are quite the intriguing man. I was wondering if perhaps... you'd care for a dance with me?" he asked then and turned to look at the man.

Avery sighed and shook his head. Elliot was always pushing limits. Hopefully their parents didn't notice who exactly Elliot had decided to ask to a dance. They would not approve. Avery on the other hand didn't much care about Elliot's preferences. He moved to the outskirts of the ballroom himself to leave his sister waiting. If he hovered over her, she might not be asked to dance but he'd keep an eye on her. If no one seemed to want to dance with her later, he would step in and dance with her. He didn't want his sister unhappy though she always bit at him. He knew his sister loved to dance so he would make sure she at least got out on the dance floor this evening. He knew that if Avery was the only person that asked her to dance, Ilene would most likely retreat to her chambers very upset.

Claere looked about the ballroom, nodding politely and exchanging manners whenever a lord or lady approached. It was not a rare occurrence for people to approach the Cavaliers, trying to earn their favour. They were one of the wealthiest families, one of untarnished reputation and a particular closeness to the royal family. Thus, they were people well-worth accommodating.

She couldn't say the same thing for the Davernys, all of whom seemed to be being subjected to glances of distrust and disdain. She joined the many others in watching them, although her own expression was one of fascination as opposed to disgust. They were truly an interesting sort, and the eldest son and only daughter had even succeeded in attracting hopeful dance partners. She noticed a sway the younger Daverny's stance, and scoffed. Drunk before the beverages have even been served. That's one way to make an impression.

She turned her attention back to the other lords and ladies, and realized that she and Annalys were about to be approached by Arys Chaimbers. "Who is that? Oh. My, he really is as pretty as everyone says." Anna looked to her sister with a mischievous smile, "And I do love pretty things."

"The infamous flowers from the marshes of the east... Will either of you care to join a valiant knight for a dance? Both of you could accompany me if you so choose. I have two strong arms from the perils of the arena for each of you to hold." Pretty as they say... and just as arrogant. Claere opened her mouth to reply, although to reject or accept him she could not say- only to be cut off by her sister, who looked over the prince with that same mischievous smirk."Of that, I have no doubt, good ser." Her smile extended, "However, I am not so fond of sharing, so Claere will sit this one out." She slipped her hand into his, pulling him softly yet insistently towards the dance floor, and winking teasingly at Claere over his shoulder.

Claere rolled her eyes in a mixture of amusement and exasperation, before backing away to the edge of the ballroom to watch the dancing. Truth be told, there was a part of her that was flooded with relief at not having a partner; for a dancer she was not, and she did not desire to step on any toes during the occasion, both literally and figuratively.

Once Freya took Brom's hand as he knelt before her, he wasted no time in placing a chivalrous kiss upon the back of her hand. He then stood, holding out his arm to guide her out to the center of the hall where the dancing would commence. Just before he twirled her around, she replied to his comment about being the most beautiful woman in the room. "If the most beautiful girl here deserves all eyes on her... Then I must not be her." Freya was smirking, but Brom simply raised his brows in confusion. He tugged her close, placing his right hand upon her waist but also as to hear what else would follow. "Surely the one who catches the eye of Blackvale's heir must be the most beautiful in the room."

Brom scoffed slightly as he glanced over his shoulder towards his brother, while tugging the beautiful even closer so their chests lightly brushed. As he looked back towards her, his other hand took hers. "Well my brother has horrible taste in women." Brom than began effortlessly guiding the beauty about the ballroom, causing his golden locks to lightly blow about his face. "He went for the girl that, upon first glance, is most like himself.... And not completely fawning over him." With that his hand slipped from Freya's waist, to twirl her around before pulling her back in again.

"They only look at him for his title." For someone like him, it probably was odd that he faired so well upon the dance floor, but his parents taught him well. And no better way to a woman's heart and bed, then a little vertical tango before the horizontal. "Rhaegar is a good man with a kind heart..." This time Brom leaned in slightly closer to her. The blonde giant practically towered over the delicate Freya as he whispered in her ear. "...But titles aren't everything."

Rhaegar wasn't one for these big extravagant balls, honestly they made him uncomfortable. He'd much rather be outside with Gwendolynn and Brom rather than walking around as eye candy for the power hungry. But Brienne, from her more casual attire and unworldly beauty, seemed unlike that. But then again, this is only the cover of the book that he was judging. Where else would Rhaegar start? It wasn't like he knew anyone there, and from first glances she seemed the most like him. "It would be my honor, your grace." The snowy haired beauty curtsied before him. Rhaegar let out a soft sigh of relief when she accepted. He wasn't much in the mood to go find another dancing partner. It's hard enough for him to choose one.

With a gentle hold of her small hand, Rhaegar lead her out to the center of the ballroom. He no doubt wasn't as flamboyant as his brother. He wasn't trying to seduce her, or make her feel uncomfortable. He simply wanted the company of one who seemed as down to earth as himself and possibly get to know a bit more about her. As he brought her fairly close, but not quite like his brother, he noticed how direct Brienne's gaze was. He couldn't help the upturn of the corner of his lips in a slight smile as he looked down upon her. Brienne seemed to have a question behind her eyes, and no reservations to coming out and asking it. "So why would a prince ask a lady dressed in riding rags to dance over every other fair maiden in this room? I do hope it's not only for the sake of creating spite in your mother." The blonde smirked at her own question.

Rhaegar couldn't help but let out a hearty chuckle while giving her a little twirl. He then brought her back to his arms to answer her question. "Everything me or my siblings do angers our Mother. Only Gwendolynn is the one to do it on purpose." He made a sideways glance to momentarily gaze upon his sister whom was asking a pirate to dance. No doubt their Mother would have stern words for the both of them. It seemed Brom had been the one to make the best choice of dance companion. His face still held it's simple smile but his tone slightly more calm and warm. "Honestly... You remind me a lot of myself." Rhaegar leaned in slightly to whisper. "I'd much rather be in my riding clothes than this." He nodded his head downward towards his outfit.

Gwendolynn smiled happily when Howell bowed before her. If she wasn't in her mothers presence she would tell him he wouldn't have to treat her like royalty, regardless if she is. But her mother would keel over if she saw her daughter dancing with someone who didn't have the curtesy to bow before her. β€œI would be honored, my lady.” Gwen hook her hand in the bend of his offered arm. She wanted to sweep up her annoyingly long train of her dress but again... Not ladylike. As the handsome pirate lead her to the center of the room, she tiled her head towards him slightly, speaking in a hushed tone. "If I step on your feet, I apologize. I'm having a hard time telling where this train stops and the floor starts."

Once they had reached the center of commotion where the music played, and couples twirled around them, Gwen didn't hesitate to place one hand upon Howell's shoulder, the other resting his large palm. β€œIt’s good that looks cannot kill, I think your mother may be trying to murder me,” He said towards her softly which made her giggle while sparing her fuming mother a glance. Howell then seemed to look upon his own father who seemed as equally upset. β€œTwice as lucky I suppose,” Gwen's gaze drifted towards Hector and the hate that seemed to emit from his strong gaze made her tense slightly. "I think the same goes for me..."

After a moment or two of simple twirling and dancing, Gwendolynn decided to speak up once again. She never was a huge fan of silence, especially when a handsome stranger was right before her. "But don't let the Queen intimidate you. Everything I do she disapproves of... She was already fuming mad at me before anyone arrived her at the Keep." She paused for a second. A playful smirk gracing her lips, "But... Asking you to dance probably didn't help." At one point while twirling around, her gaze momentarily locked on Lucien who was being approached by a young attractive male. She couldn't help but smile and send her closest friend a playful wink.

There was a soft smile that formed and nearly a chuckle that escaped when the pirate curtsied before him. It was not in intent to laugh at her but it was also a bit amusing how much she stood out from the other women in the room. Varro actually quite enjoyed it. β€œI’d love to, though you must understand what it looks like to be dancing with a pirate, no?” She seemed to bite back her words as soon as the came but Varro seemed to chuckle lightly anyways at the quickness of her tongue as she responded before he seemed to have the chance. β€œForgive me for being so forward, but why me of all the beautiful women in this room?” By this point, Varro had already taken the liberty of taken her hand and leading her towards the center of the ballroom as those in the outskirts began to whisper and stare. He was by no means the greatest dance partner as he could not twirl and charm his partner around the ballroom with elegance and charm like Lucien but lessons with his sister proved he could perform well enough.

Varro held her with closely as they danced around with an amused smile upon his face as he finally gave her his long awaited answer. "Now why doubt your own beauty and charm, my lady? It seems to me your the most beautiful woman in this room." He looked down upon her dress adorned with buckles and belts as his smile grew bigger and he leaned closer to speak softer. "Though you could say it's for the sake of spiting my father as he'd prefer I dance with the woman the prince managed to charm." His eyes fell upon Brienne and Rhaegar. "Of course I'd rather not dance with a woman whom I despise more than my father or bastard of a brother at times. He continued to dance with her though he kept his steps simple finally deciding to attempt to twirl her around and he spoke practically into her ear like a whisper. "Though do think of the songs and stories that will ensue over a pirate winning the attention of the king's commander."

Brom lead her across the dance floor as he held her closely and twirled her around the rooms so lightly on his feet despite his large size. He seemed to scoff at her comment about Prince Rhaegar and Lady Brienne as he gave his response. "Well my brother has horrible taste in women." Freya couldn't help but snicker at his comment as his eyes fell upon the pairing near them. Though a moment of distraction caused Freya to see Varro leading a pirate onto the floor. Now that was surely a sight to see. "He went for the girl that, upon first glance, is most like himself.... And not completely fawning over him." He taken his hand off the curve of her waist as he twirled her around and brought her closely into his arms once more as Freya matched him and snickered at his comment. "Looks can be deceiving, your grace."

"They only look at him for his title." She smirked at his comment and attempted charm. The man was greatly living up to his reputation and Freya found it awfully amusing as her attention had occasionally been stolen by the beauty she had seen before. The fair maiden that was now being seduced by none other than Arys Chaimbers. Freya felt a wave of jealousy ensue her though she kept it well hidden along with her glances from the prince. "Rhaegar is a good man with a kind heart..." He'd come in closer than before as the softness of his breathe was on his ear and she seemed completely engulfed by his large size. "...But titles aren't everything."

Freya looked up with a smirk as it was her turn to play the game with her womanly charm and quick wit. "Forgive me my prince, but you say that as a man, a prince, and the captain of the guard. Titles are everything in this land especially as a woman. I hold no power like the one you so greatly possess and you have the luxury that I do not as a woman. I hold only the power to find a husband though even that is dictated for me by a man and the power to bare him strong sons that is also so greatly dictated by a man." She let out a soft chuckle. "Power and titles hold everything to a woman especially when we ll decide the greatest power of being queen." Her eyes fell upon the queen. "Titles are everything even if we decide them not to be."

Lucien stayed within the outskirts of the floor detached from the ball as he stood like many of the other guards on their post. That was until a young man came to approach him. He stood next to Lucien as he spoke though. "Hello, Stranger," His voice seemed to coo as he spoke to him though Lucien's expression never changed until he locked eyes with his dearest friend and the princess as she gave him a wink to which Lucien responded with a smirk. "I couldn't help but notice you across the way. You are quite the intriguing man. I was wondering if perhaps... you'd care for a dance with me? the young man turned to him though Lucien's attentions were still on the dance floor. A light chuckle came out as he addressing the daring little man.

"You ask a another man to dance openly on lands where that is not allowed. You should be much more careful with your advances as you just asked a guard to dance. A guard whom could rat you out for your carelessness if he desired a different form of pleasure." Lucien finally looked upon him with a smirk. "What you desire must be done behind closed doors here. If you care a dance of sorts you should ask so in a more private situation as I know every secret corridor within this castle for just that."

Today just seemed to get continuously better for Arys as Annalys was the first to respond to his invitation. "Of that, I have no doubt, good ser." Her smile grew large while Arys's smirk grew much more devious than before. "However, I am not so fond of sharing, so Claere will sit this one out." Arys had his own witty response if not for Annalys taking his hand so quickly and leading him to the dance floor though Arys would hardly complain. He simply stopped her once they were far enough in the center and twirled her right into his arms. Arys was a talented dancer as any charmer of women should be. He smirked as he graceful spun her across the ballroom in perfect step and held his hand lower than needed on the small of her back while his other hand held hers.

He was only a few inches taller than the young woman but his boots gave him enough height to look down as he spoke almost into her ear. "It would seem your sister won't need my kind and sharing heart after all as she's seemed to attract the attention of a certain stumbling pirate." His eyes had trailed off onto Benjy and Claere as he removed his hand gently from the small of her back and twirled her around to bring her back as they were once more. "Though it seems I'm the fortunate one to gain the attention of the prettiest flower of the marsh...." He brought her in closer. "Maybe even in all the land." Arys laid the charm on rather thick though it was only in his nature. He had a reputation after all.

There had been some glances towards the direction of the pairing. Though they were subtle Arys noticed them from Freya every so often as she dance with Prince Brom. The man the king suggested would along with Arys nicely. Arys being the arrogant man he was, assumed the glances were towards him as most people, especially women, took notice of him so it seemed unlikely that had actually been for his dancing partner Annalys. Arys also made glances of his own towards the princess as he still seemed torn with jealousy that she went straight for the pirate instead of him. The girl must have been feeling sickly if she hadn't notice him. That would be the only logical solution.

Across the ballroom was Sebastian and his wife Myrcella as their conversation seemed to had grown silent since the mentioning of the queen. Myrcella had always been aware of Sebastian's indiscretions as he was aware of hers considering the men she brought to their chambers while Sebastian was pleasing the queen the way she should be. It didn't matter to the two but that didn't mean Sebastian enjoyed being questioned by his wife. But still, they danced across the ballroom as Sebastian every so often allowed his gaze to fall upon the beauty that was the queen only to return back to his beautiful wife. "If I am not needed my love... I will surely assist you in the making of a son as strong as his father." He assured her.

Brienne and the prince were in the center of the ballroom. Quite possibly the center of attention as they danced together. She couldn't help but smile at his laugh that sounded as sweet as when the soft rain drops would hit the rocks in her home as she stayed within her guarded room. He twirled her around caused her to laugh only for a moment like a young girl caught in a dream. Brienne was quick to compose herself as the strong woman her and her mother were when the prince finally adressed her question from before. "Everything me or my siblings do angers our Mother. Only Gwendolynn is the one to do it on purpose." Her eyes followed his to Gwendolyn and the pirate Howell.

"Honestly... You remind me a lot of myself." He had her full attention once more as she grew curious over how he saw them as alike. He leaned in ever so slightly and Brienne nearly caught her breathe at how close they were now. But only nearly. "I'd much rather be in my riding clothes than this." He glanced down at his outfit and Brienne did as well with a laugh louder than before as her eyes gazed back up at him bringing her back into her dream. It was not likely for Brienne to be like this and nor was it likely for her to be chosen by a man her father didn't so quickly select for her.

"I think you look ravishing, your grace... Like a prince. She smiled up at the prince this time as she spoke. She truly did enjoy his clothes. They seemed far more expensive compared to her family's despite their wealth and luxury. "I'm honored you see us as so alike. Maybe even more than just the clothes on our back, your grace. I am humbled you selected me over the other women far more beautiful than I." Brienne chose her words carefully. She was treading on thin water in the presence of royalty after all. She closed more space between them as her voice dropped to a whisper. "though i'd say we are more alike than you may think as we are both here for the sake of not having someone else dictate whom we are to love." Her eyes had finally trailed away from him as they came to a stop upon Varro Allryion. The man she was to betroth if she did not complete the deal she made with her father.

"I find it hard to believe that a flower as pretty as you have not found a partner." The man seemed to have somehow restrained his drunken stupor, and no longer did he sway as through standing upon the deck of one of his family's many ships. But his step was still heavy, and as his swept into a bow, he seemed to be careful of keeping his distance.

Mayhaps he fears the effect of his family's reputation? And yet... it did not seem to put him off drinking to his heart's content... Can't say I blame him, though.

She glanced at him, a faux expression of matter-of-fact melancholy on her face, "As my mother would say... No matter how lovely a poppy is, if you put it in a rose garden..."

Her sarcasm broke into a soft smile, and she curtsied politely in response to him. "Benjamin Daverny, though most – no, actually all call me Benjy. I’m afraid I arrived too late to catch your name?"

His demeanor was rather intimidating, but no more so than heavily armoured men she'd glimpsed as they guarded the hall's doors, or the sellswords she and her sister had glimpsed through the keyhole during one of her mother's mysterious meetings. And his manner of speaking was certainly better than either of them, in spite of the whisky scent on his breath. "Claere Cavalier." Her smile turned amused, as she was thoroughly humored by the man before her, and she looked him over pointedly, "And would I be correct in assuming that you're not in the most sober of states, Ser Benjy?"
Annalys felt the suitor's wandering hand on the lowest point on her back, and smirked, amused. As she twirled, she once again thanked the gods that she was not her sister; a creature of abysmal dancing and fearsome lack of flirtatious ability.

"It would seem your sister won't need my kind and sharing heart after all as she's seemed to attract the attention of a certain stumbling pirate." Anna frowned, and looked over to Claere, only to laugh wickedly. "The Blaggard and the Shrew... she'll be delighted."

"Though it seems I'm the fortunate one to gain the attention of the prettiest flower of the marsh... Maybe even in all the land." She smirked as his whispers tickled her ear, offering him a sly smile as he twirled her. "Careful, Little Cub. Flatter me too much and I may begin to doubt your sincerity."

She noticed his envious glances at the princess with another smirk, her amusement blossoming more so. "Though for someone supposedly dancing with the 'Prettiest Flower of the Marsh', you do seem fascinated by our lovely princess."

She looked over at the red-head, drinking in the girl's appearance with a hint of her typical flirtatiousness. "Not that I can blame you."

Elliot couldn't hold back the excitement that instantly flashed over his features. Oh he really liked this guy. A smile tugged on his lips and he let his gaze roam over the guard again. How did he want to respond to the man? There was so much he could comment on. He could tell that though the words came with a warning, their was a playful flirtation about it. The guard, to his benefit, seemed like he would enjoy male affection. This might just be his lucky day. Elliot straightened himself a little and let his smile linger. He liked that smirk on the guard. It made his features brighten and there was just something about his eyes that drew him in.

"Yes, I could very well be in trouble if you were the sort of guard that preferred other types of pleasures. Of course, if the whole chains and bondage work for you, I am game," he mused. "However, sometimes you have to be bold to get what you want and take the extra risk. Otherwise, you are just living a life of expectations." Elliot moved closer to the guard then. He reached out and let his fingers roll over one of the extended buckles draping around the man's neck and shoulders. Though Lucien was a bit taller than Elliot, the young Thatcher leaned up and pulled the guard's shoulder down slightly so he could whisper in his ear, "I like this turn of events. I think my gamble was well received if I am to be rewarded with an invitation to a private dance," he grinned. "Where shall I meet a certain guard who knows all the secrets of the castle?" he asked then.

Avery on the other hand was watching Gwen dance with the pirate. He had no ill will to the pirates but he was trying to figure out how to ferret away the other man's dance partner. Gwen truly was the most beautiful woman Avery had ever seen. He was dying to know if her personality was just as fiery and beautiful as her appearance. Thus far the women that his parents pushed his way were beautiful on the outside but had little in the ways of personality and they did not hold the same love he had for the land and simple life. He knew it was far fetched to think that the princess would think about simple farming as a luxury, but he was still curious to find out what she did like and what she was passionate about. Dancing was a great way to find out about a person.

Speaking of dancing, Avery glanced over at his lonely sister. Ilene was watching each pair in yearning. Of course her eyes lingered on Rheager, but there was no mistaking the desire to simply dance. Every noble woman had attracted a dance partner. Oh his poor sister. And poor him and Elliot. There would be no end to her tirade about it tonight. Avery sighed softly. He couldn't let his sister stand there. It was kind of pitiful and though they didn't always get along, Avery did want his sister to be happy and smiling. She could light up a room when she smiled. She deserved to have a dance at this ball.

Avery moved towards Ilene then. Once in front of her, he gave her a gracious bow and took her hand in his. He kissed her knuckles and smiled through his bangs. "Care for a dance, my lady?"

Ilene smiled softly at her brother and squeezed his hand. She had hoped that if not the regal princes, someone would have asked her for a dance beside her brother but... this was nice to. Avery was a sweetheart and she was thankful that he had asked her to dance with him. She didn't want to miss out on the festivities and dancing with her brother wasn't that bad. He was a good dancer at least.

"You are too kind, Sir Cabbage," she grinned and let him pull her towards the dance floor.

Avery arched an eyebrow at her. "Sir? I am a knighted cabbage now?"

"Of course. You are my cabbage knight. You have proven yourself worthy." she answered him as he twirled her around.

"Ah. Is that so? I never thought I'd be so honored," he said sarcastically.

"I you don't like it, I can always go back to call you a plain old cabbage."

"No, no. Sir Cabbage works."

"Good." Ilene smiled and glanced at the other dancers again before she leaned her head on her brother's shoulder. "Thank you, Avery."

"Of course. That is what I am here for."

"Sooo," Ilene grinned then, "Is there a woman of noble stature that has caught my brother's eye? I saw your gaze wandering over the dance floor."

Avery chuckled and shook his head. "Nothing ever escapes you, does it? If you must know... I actually want to dance with Princess Gwendolynn."

Ilene's eyes widened and she stopped a moment in her dancing. The princess? Her brother fancied the princess? Where had this come from? As far as she knew, Avery wanted nothing to do with the marriage race. "What?" she asked rather bluntly.

"You heard me. I fancy the princess. She is beautiful. I didn't really expect her not to be but... I don't know. I want to know more about her."

"My ambition-less brother going after the princess? Now that is quite the change. I think I need to start calling you horseradish. Well, if you are going after the princess, we both have chances for the throne. I like the odds of two out three."

"Oh, don't start with that, Ilene. I didn't say I was going to marry the princess. I said I wanted to get to know her. I might not pursue her at all."

Ilene rolled her eyes at her brother. "Never mind. You are still a cabbage after all. You're my cabbage but a cabbage none-the-less."

It was Avery's turn to roll his eyes at his sister. Her and her silly nicknames. Eventually she'd learn that titles weren't everything and were not the end all be all of happiness. Until then, he'd just enjoy the dancing.

"Looks can be deceiving, your grace." Brom couldn't help but chuckle at Freya's comment when discussing his brother and his chosen dance partner. As he continued to move the fair maiden about the dance floor, he couldn't help but notice her attention drift over to one of the Cavalier daughters. It didn't take a genius for him to notice she favored women more in comparison to men, which maybe is why he found her little speech so amusing. "Forgive me my prince, but you say that as a man, a prince, and the captain of the guard. Titles are everything in this land especially as a woman. I hold no power like the one you so greatly possess and you have the luxury that I do not as a woman. I hold only the power to find a husband though even that is dictated for me by a man and the power to bare him strong sons that is also so greatly dictated by a man."

Brom let out a soft sigh, giving Freya a small twirl before she continued. "Power and titles hold everything to a woman especially when we ll decide the greatest power of being queen... Titles are everything even if we decide them not to be." He caught her gaze drift to his mother, which caused him to clench his jaw slightly. Sure he could understand how many women would look up to his mother, but knowing her the way he did, it made him uneasy to think someone would want her as a role model. Brom loved his mother, but that did not mean he had to like her.

It was unlike Brom to be silent for so long. He guided Freya through the dancing but his face showed another tale. His furrowed brow and clenched jaw showed how he was deep in thought. Contemplating what to say at that point. Finally, he decided to speak. "I did not ask for my titles... I do not want them." His gaze fell to the woman in his arms as he spoke. "I became Captain of the Guard to save myself from a worse title... It was my escape." Brom wasn't going to say anymore in those regards, he barely knew the woman and couldn't go spilling all his secrets yet.

After yet another spin, Brom brought Freya in close once again. "I do not care about titles..." He released her hand for a moment, to point to her chest, obviously meaning her heart. "What's in there is more important that any titles and lack of titles." He then took her hand again as he moved them about the dance floor. "Well... And how good they are in bed." Brom smirked playfully while flashing her a wink.

Brienne's laugh at Rhaegar's comment about preferring to be in his riding clothes compared to his current attire made him smile, glad he could make her laugh. "I think you look ravishing, your grace... Like a prince." Rhaegar smiled down at her. Some could say it even seemed like he was blushing slightly. He then cleared his throat, removing his hand from her waist to twirl her out away from him. "You flatter, my Lady." Then with a gentle tug, he spun her back in towards him until she was stopped by his strong frame coming into contact with her torso. His hand moved back to her waist, and moved her about the dance floor.

"I'm honored you see us as so alike. Maybe even more than just the clothes on our back, your grace. I am humbled you selected me over the other women far more beautiful than I." Rhaegar couldn't help but let a soft chuckle escape from his lips as he looked down upon the silver haired beauty. "Where are these more beautiful women you speak of?" He raised a brow, with a slight smirk. "I do not see one."

Rhaegar's curiosity grew as Brienne initiated closing the distance between them more, her voice falling to a whisper. "though i'd say we are more alike than you may think as we are both here for the sake of not having someone else dictate whom we are to love." His face grew slightly more serious, not in the bad way but more intrigued. "I take it word traveled to the Western Bluffs about me disappearing before my arranged marriage?" His voice was soft, only audible for her. The thumb of the hand upon her lower back, brushed against her in a reassuring way, afraid not to say the wrong thing for others to hear. "My mother says enough love will come from a smart match..." He glances down slightly. "But my heart cannot be forced into something." He shrugged his shoulders.

"No, It probably didn’t.” Gwendolynn was glad to see that Howell's father was no longer staring daggers at her. Although he wouldn't be so lucky. She didn't have to look towards her mother to know the woman would kill him with a single glance if it were possible.

β€œNo matter,” Her attention was drawn back to the handsome man who lead her in the dance when he spoke towards her. Before he continued he twirled her, which caused Gwen to smile like a little girl who twirled in their mother's dress. As she came back towards him, he spoke again. β€œI’m glad to say we are not so unalike when it comes down to matters like this,” She noticed his gaze drift off for a moment, but it quickly came back to rest upon her. β€œThough I do hope we can do this again sometime,” He smirked towards her, which caused her to smile back, β€œIf only to see that look on our parents faces again.”

Gwendolynn was silent for a moment or two. She did enjoy that Howell had the same thirst for frustrating his parents as she did. Especially considering the two of them dancing together, no doubt, was putting their parents through a tizzy. But it also tugged at her stomach slightly, causing a frown to appear in her eyes. "Well... I do hope that upsetting our parents is not the only reason you'd wish to do this again." Her gaze drifted up to his. Gwendolynn didn't like the idea of only being used to upset his parents. She wanted someone to be around her because they wanted to... Plan and simple.

"Stop staring." Magnus said dryly, not even needing to look over at his wife to know she was watching Gwendolynn and Howell intently. "She is dancing with a pirate, Magnus." Guinevere had a sharp edge in her voice, standing there cold and stoic like a statue. "And?... We're giving our children the summer to try and find their future partner. Those pirates are nobles Guinevere." The Queen pivots to face her husband, "Over my dead body will our daughter marry a Daverny!"

Magnus tensed, keeping his gaze on the party while clenching his jaw. "I will not argue with you on this matter. We came to this agreement. I will not break a promise to my children.... If our daughter chooses a pirate, or a farmer, or any other form of noble man in this Keep by the end of the summer, then that is whom she will have. Dictating whom she can choose is no better than arranging her marriage. Gwendolynn has too much Rhaegar in her. She will do as he did if we force anything upon her."

Guinevere laughed a cold laugh, crossing her arms over her chest. "You let your children get away with anything Magnus. Your heir, the future king is dancing with a girl in no more than riding rags." She motioned a hand towards the pair as they danced. "And did you not admit to liking the young girl not a few moments passed when she was presented to you?" If there wasn't such a loud commotion of the part taking place, one might say the Queen growled. "My love... Your hypocrisy will cause you our children."

The Queen spoke cold yet firm, "Your children. I do not see a fraction of me in them." With that Guinevere made her way down the steps, to get lost in the crowd of the party, leaving the King up in front of his throne alone.

The ride towards the castle had been sort of a troublesome one since it had rained the day before making the main road they traveled on all muddy and almost impossible to travel on. The carriage got stuck a few times in that damn mud that Selene and one of their guards had to hop off their horses in order to push it out every time. Throughout that time Lilith would watch from inside the carriage, visibly bored but would tease her older sister whenever she had to get down and dirty in the mud. She even stuck out her tongue once like a child which in return received a handful of mud flung at her face. Their parents sure weren't happy about that and even had to hold back a mud faced Lilith from exiting the carriage to execute her revenge. "Honestly Selene! Why don't you act like a lady?" Her father questioned from the carriage, loud enough for his oldest to hear.

Selene flung some mud off of her light armor and rolled her eyes as she sat back up upon her grey steed. "Maybe I don't want to be a lady, father?" She responded keeping up the pace so she was side by side with the carriage. "Everyone knows that Selene." Chirped in Lily with a matter of fact tone and a playful smile. "I couldn't ever recognize you as a lady even in a dress!" She added in as she finished wiping most of the mud from her face with her mother's cloth handkerchief that she handed her. "Ha, ha, very funny Rora. You seem more like a child to me than a lady with that height of yours." Selene grinned and Lily had no come back so she just stuck her head from out of the small window of the carriage door, made a face and stuck out her tongue in which Selene only laughed at knowing she had won that one.

"Alright that's enough you two." Spoke up Lady Elizabeth silently enjoying her daughters little playful argument. Out of the two Elizabeth had to be the more relaxed parent because she just loved seeing her children happy and smiling, it's the only thing that brings her joy in life anymore since she lost Magnus to the now Queen, Guinevere. "There is a Lake," Elizabeth nodded towards the large body of water that had the sun shining brightly over it. "You two go wash up before we get there. We are not visiting your aunt or uncle but the king and I will not have my children showing up like two animals who have played in the mud all day." With a sigh Lilith made her way out of the carriage and Selene off of her horse "Yes mother." They respond in union. "How do you do that dear, get our children to listen to you so easily?" Robert asked bewildered, an expression he shows every time his children listen to their mother without question but give him a fight. "Perhaps it's just a mothers thing, my dear." She smiled at the man across from her, the man whom she does not love but has grown to care about over the years even if those feelings aren't of the romantic kind. She still had children with him and that meant something, to her at least.

Selene walked across the grassy river bank with her little sister in toe before disappearing behind some trees in order to get privacy as they cleaned themselves up. Small splashes could be heard form the carriage along with laughter which only made Lady Elizabeth and Lord Robert shake their heads with a little smile upon their lips.

After some hours back on the road all dry by this point and presentable the Grayson's finally reached the castle. Selene was the first to dismount from her horse and open the carriage door for her parents. Even though she was a noble she was also still a knight from the east and the very first female knight from the east at that. First to exit the carriage was Lord Robert who escorted his wife, Lady Elizabeth out by her hand with grace. Then came Lilith who was helped out by her sister. The family was escorted into the castle but not into the ballroom and instead straight to the king himself. The two sisters looked at each other before entering the castle and gave each other a sigh before trudging forward to their evening of socializing and fake smiles.

Rhaegar took Brienne's silence and soft chuckle to be an answer to his question. He wasn't surprised. Of course word had traveled to all corners of Blackvale about what he did. It isn't every day heir to the throne runs out on his own wedding. He knew everyone here knew he was the reason this was happening. Why all the nobles set their children after him like hungry Lions.

Brienne's tension and cold laugh at his comment made him crack a slight smile. It was apparent to Rhaegar, even before she spoke, that she knew the feeling. "Surely your arranged marriages have been much more tolerable than mine." She sounded as if she was trying to one up him. This only caused him to let out a hearty chuckle, as he slipped his hand from her waist and twirled her. As she came back into his embrace, she continued, "The Chaimbers family does have a reputation after all and I was first to marry my eldest brother, Sebastian, until he decided to marry a different Chaimbers woman... Next it was arranged I would marry my youngest brother, Arys, in hopes of keeping the bloodlines 'pure' in the bluffs though now it would seem my father would prefer me with the brutish commander of the guard who cares more about his sword than women."

Rhaegar cocked his head to the side as he moved with her, "I never met any of the women I was arranged to marry. I wasn't going to until the day of the wedding... Which I mysteriously disappeared before." With a pause, he raised his right hand to brush back a silver lock from the beauty's face, tucking it behind her ear. A simple gesture. Nothing more than being able to see her face and striking gaze as he spoke. "I couldn't imagine being told I'd have to marry my sister," He looked over his shoulder towards his sister momentarily, before looking back towards Brienne.

As Rhaegar's gaze was upon the girl in his arms, he couldn't help but let it drift over to the man she spoke of. Varro. The one she was to marry. "That is quite unfortunate." This time the silence rested for a long while as his gaze never seemed to make it's way back to hers for the better part of a minute. "Are your parents at least giving you the decency to make a different choice by the end of the summer?... Or am I stepping on toes by dancing with you?" At that moment he looked back down at her.

Freya laughed at Brom's final comment that tried to lighten the mood once again, which made him smirk slightly. "Well of course being able to leave someone satisfied is rather important, my prince." She smirked up at him before continuing, "Though it would seem you're avoiding something... It would seem you do care about titles. At least enough to hate them and take on the titles of captain."

Although Brom seemed like a dumb brute with nothing but air between his ears, he could see what the young woman was doing. But instead he just chuckled, and played along. "I never said I hated them... I do not hate them nor do I love them. They are an unfortunate necessary evil that in society like ours we cannot avoid."

Freya's smirk changed to a friendlier smile, "Even I care about them. As I desire to one day be queen instead of just a lady dictated by her future husband. I did not ask for my title either but I do hope to make it a little better."

"I do believe you are dancing with the wrong brother then my lady." In a swift and elegant move Brom spun the girl around and brought her back to him so her back pressed softly against his chest, his hand holding her against her abdomen. "And as for why I took up being Captain of the Guard," He whispered into her ear, knowing that that was what her silver tongue was trying to snake out of him. "I'd tell you... But then I'd have to kill you." He spun her around so their chests were pressed together, his voice even more quiet but a playful grin graced his lips. "And I'd hate to have to ruin that lovely dress..."

”I would be honored to do this again,” Howell spoke gently towards her, which caused Gwendolynn to raise a brow while also smiling softly. ”Even if it goes no further than friendship, you are the most interesting person in this room and I would very much enjoy getting to know you – the real you.”

Gwen pursed her lips slightly, "The real me?..." She allowed her gaze to move up to meet his, "I am afraid it's hard for anyone to see that side of me when I'm showcased before the kingdom." Her voice carried somber tones making it evident that she was not a fan of being displayed before the masses as something she isn't. "The real me wakes before the sun rises and the kingdom stirs... envelopes itself in the outdoors on horseback." She smiles at the mention of being outside and upon her horse Gus. The wind in her hair and the freedom she feels. She's untouchable on him. But after coming back to reality, her smile fades slightly. "Then it slumbers at the moment my Mother arises."

It was a sad truth. Gwendolynn could never truly be herself as she lived under her Mother's roof. Although her Father lets her be whomever she wishes, it only goes so far when the Queen has other plans for her. She could feel herself growing angrier with every thought of her Mother, only to be drawn back to reality when Howell spoke. β€œAnd while upsetting our parents is a perk of that, it is not the only reason, nor the most important reason.” His smile tugged at her until her own smile surfaced.

As they continued to spin around the ballroom, Gwendolynn did not feel the weight of someone's foot upon her dress until it was too late. While twirling around, she brought toppling down one of the servants who was carrying a trey of crystalware filled to the brim with champagne. Although the music that echoed throughout the hall was loud, the whole room seemed to fall silent as the crystal shattered upon the ground, slipping it's contents over her gown, the floor and the servant carrying it.

Gwendolynn gasped, quickly slipping herself from Howell's embrace and allowing herself to fall to her knees beside the servant. "Rupert! I am so sorry... Are you hurt?!" Her gaze searched the young boy who had just barely reached manhood. She was probably the center of attention at that moment and she did not care. Gwen was one of the few people who seemed to care about the servants that worked in the castle. She even knew them all by name and more often then not they were her closest friends aside from her brother.

"Fine, Your Grace." He quickly shuffled to his knees and frantically began to collect the shattered remains of the glasses. He was obviously terrified of being reprimanded, not by the Princess but by the Queen. He froze once he noticed that half of Gwen's dress was soaked in champagne. "Your dress... I am -"

"It is just fabric." She gave him a reassuring smile.

Not a moment after the Queen had reached the sanctity of the barren hall she heard someone approach behind her. Guinevere spun around to see Sebastian in tow behind her. He promptly fell to his knee before her, "My queen, is there anything I can do to ease your troubled mind?"

Her facial expression slowly seemed to ease as she took a step towards the handsome young man. Stopping a foot or so before him, she raised her hand to softly brush the back of it upon his cheek. "I am angered by my husband and his children... No doing of yours can undo that my darling."

Just as the Queen leaned down, perhaps to kiss Sebastian or maybe to whisper sweet nothings into his ear, the King stepped through the door into the hall. His wife quickly retracted her hand and stood upright. "Oh don't stop on my account." Magnus said coldly. The King was far from dumb like Guinevere or many others in the Kingdom presumed. He had known for quite sometime now that his wife was having an affair. He had intentionally gone out of the way not to catch them because quite honestly he did not care either way as long as rumor did not spread. But in a situation like this, so close to prying eyes... He would not condone that.

Before Magnus could say anything else, one of the Keeps stewards hurried down the hall towards them. Coming to a halt a few feet away and bowing. "Your Grace. Your Grace. My Lord." He bowed towards each one of them as he addressed them. "Colors have been spotted on the horizon. The Graysons and Thornes Your Grace."

The King's stern demeanor quickly faded at the mention of the Graysons, which quickly brought the thought of Elizabeth to his mind. So many years it had been since he had set eyes upon her and yet, just the mention of her house sent his heart into a frenzy. But he quickly composed himself before looking towards Sebastian. "Since you seem to feel the King is not in need of protection at the current time. I'm sure you have better things to occupy your time with that does not include my wife... Perhaps your own that you left alone in the ballroom." With that, he took his wife by the arm and lead her to the main entrance of the Keep to greet their guests.

Magnus smiled as the Lord and Lady Grayson approached them. He embraced Robert with a friendly pat on either shoulder. "Good to see you old man." His gaze drifted towards Elizabeth, and he couldn't help but smile. He moved towards her, placing a tender kiss on her cheek and letting a soft whisper escape his lips. "It is good to see you Lizzie." As the Grayson children entered the King and Queen both introduced themselves towards them. Upon looking at Selene, Guinevere had a strange feeling in the pit of her stomach that she couldn't quite place. But something about the girl seemed far too familiar. But she put on her best fake smile and welcomed the family. "We are so pleased to welcome your family into our home for the season."

The Queen took Elizabeth's arm in hers. Which to most might seem like a friendly gesture but both of the women knew better as Guinevere lead them to the ballroom, as Magnus waited near the entrance to greet their final guests. "I see you did not wait very long to start popping out children after your loss." The Queen did not mean a death loss, but her loss over the fight for the King's hand. Guinevere was smothering every word with more hidden meaning than anyone could follow, other than Elizabeth. She was going to find out why that daughter of hers seemed so familiar.

Deciding to make a show of it, the Queen directed them straight through the main doors of the ballroom, causing the music to stop and everyone to face them. "The rest of our guests have joined us! Let us welcome them into our home and festivities!!" Her gaze shifted about the room until it landed upon Rhaegar's. "Son."

Image

Rhaegar stopped mid-dance with Brienne when he heard the doors thrown open and the music stop. With his hand upon her waist, he was easily able to look over most of the other's heads towards those joining them. He sighed softly when his mother said his name. That was all she had to do, and he knew that meant he needed to come and ask one of those girls to dance. The Queen obviously didn't like his choice in dancing companion. He pivoted on his heel, taking Brienne's hand in his as he bowed and placed a tender kiss upon it. "Thank you for the dance My Lady. I hope that I will get to spend more time with you again soon." Rhaegar smiled towards her before releasing her hand and snaking his way through the crowd.

Once he was before the Graysons, he bowed very elegantly. He didn't like having to choose between either daughter. This time he decided to please his mother and approach the one dressed more formally, Lilith. He bowed once again, before offering the young lady his hand, "Would you honor me with a dance My Lady?"

Brom growled slightly under his breath when the music was stopped abruptly. When his brother was called up front to greet the girls, he knew that his Mother would expect him to make the rounds and dance with more than one woman. So even though he was enjoying the conversation with Freya, he bowed his head and placed a kiss upon her hand. "I shouldn't be the only one who gets to enjoy your beauty this evening... But if they are too boring for you, you can always come find me." He flashed her a playful wink before slipping through the crowd. Instead of searching for another dance partner, he made his way towards the refreshments. He grabbed a green apple and proceeded to lean his hip against the table, and take a bite while watching the room.

The second Gwendolynn heard the doors open, her eyes widened. Without a second thought, she furiously helped scoop up the crystal shards onto the tray Rupert was carrying. "Go to the kitchen... If anyone asks it was my fault."

"But your Grace!?"

"Go now!" She handed him the tray before moving to her feet. Gwendolynn then quickly helped him up and gently pushed him in the direction of the kitchen. She then looked towards the entrance and saw her Mother's gaze scanning the crowd, no doubt probably looking for her. Gwen knew if she was seen soaked in champagne, helping a servant she would be dead. So without another thought, she ducked down and hurried out of the hall and into the gardens.

Once outside Gwendolynn let out a sigh of relief. She was happy to be out of the stuffy hall and away from judging glances. She slowly made her way to a large fountain that rested in the center of the gardens, its waters sparkling in the light of the stars and moon. Gwen sat upon its edge. As she cupped her hands in her lap, she winced softly. Looking down upon her palms she noticed small cuts and a few pieces of crystal embedded in her hands from helping Rupert. "Just my luck." She whispered to herself.

Elliot couldn't help the grin that tucked at the corner of his lips. See? It did pay to be a bit forward and adventurous. Now he was going to be having a... private dance later with one of the most handsome men in the room. Take that ladies. That was how it was done. All of this cat fighting the women were doing to get the princes' attention was enough to make you sick. Here, he had done a little bit of hinting and flirting and being direct and he got what he wanted. Girls made things too hard and take too long in his opinion. Besides, both royal princes were handsome but who wanted to deal with all of the strings that came with that? No, he much preferred his sexy and flirty guard.

Elliot smiled at the man. "That sounds like a plan. I will see you later," he mused with a wink. The man had mentioned dancing with one of the Cavaliers since a pirate had gone up to her but he didn't really want to dance with her. She didn't seem like she needed rescuing either. She was smiling and in good spirits. Besides he wasn't interested in her so why should he take her away from someone who obviously wanted to dance with her? No, he did not want to dance with her. But what should he do while he waited for the dancing to be over? He scanned the room and noted that Avery was dancing with their sister. Maybe he could give Avery a break.

He walked over to his older siblings and tapped Avery's shoulder. The two looked over at him and Elliot gave a gracious bow. "Pardon me, but may I cut in?" he asked with charming smile.

Avery chuckled and smiled. "Of course, but who are you asking for?" he teased, "Me or your sister?"

Elliot rolled his eyes. "Ha ha. I was asking for Ilene."

Avery chuckled as he gave a nod. Ilene herself was grinning. "You have to admit, Avery's question was a valid one. We all know your preference in dance partners. And speaking of, how did it go with that handsome guard you approached? I am dying to know if he rejected our little puppy."

Elliot started to dance with his sister as Avery headed to the table set up with all sorts of delicacies. Hm, that was a good idea. After this he should probably grab something to eat to. He was starved. "Well, Sister dear, let us just say that I am going to have quite the after show," he smiled. "He seems fun to play with."

Ilene chuckled at her brother. "Well just be careful, Elliot. You know the laws. I do not want you to literally lose your head over something like this. Some caution and discretion is necessary." She warned as Elliot twirled her around.

"I know, I know. I won't do anything too scandalous."

"Good."

Avery himself collected some fruits and cheese on a plate and leaned against one of the pillars in the room. His eyes immediately fell on the radiant princess and her dance partner. He probably should go up to her now but this person had been her chosen dance partner. He would not interrupt her dance. He was patient. He could wait until there was some sort of break or something. She wouldn't dance with him forever and it was much more polite to wait then cut in. But once he did start dancing with her, what then? What would they even talk about? He was rather passionate about the fields and fencing. He doubted she would be enraptured about such a conversation. He'd have to think about something. Maybe animals. Even Ilene loved to talk about animals.

Avery's eyes widened and he took a step forward when he saw Gwen trip over the servant. The champagne went flying and glass was shattering. He was honestly a bit surprised that the princess bent down to help the boy clean up. He had expected her to turn her nose up at the young man but she hadn't. Now he was even more curious to know about this woman. Avery was vaguely aware that the music had stopped and that new arrivals were being introduced but really, his attention was only on the princess.

When she began to run out of the ballroom, Avery quickly followed. He stayed back a bit to give her some space at first, but he didn't wait too long. He did not want his chance to talk to her be whisked away by someone else. He approached the sitting princess and his eyes immediately found their way to her hands. She was bleeding and injured! She really didn't seem to be having a good evening.

Without a second thought, Avery ripped the sleeve of his outfit before he dropped down to one knee beside the woman. He was never one to truly care about titles and right now, all that mattered was that she needed attention. He reached out without asking and took one of her bleeding hands and surveyed the damage. Thankfully, the shards would be relatively easy to take out. He set about the task of slowly pulling the shards out before he searched himself for the small flask of liquor he carried on his person for cases like this. He hung around Elliot enough to know that having something quick to sterilize a wound was better than nothing. He took Gwen's hand again and looked up at her.

"This is going to sting a little but it should keep your wounds clear until you can check in with a medic. I think I took everything out, but it never hurts to be sure."

Avery then poured some of the alcohol on her hand to clear away some of the blood and debris before he used the cloth he ripped earlier to bind the wound to prevent further contamination. Then he repeated the same procedure with her second hand and tore more of his clothing to bind it. "There. Is the binding too tight, My Lady?" he asked her. "I can adjust it if it is."

~~~
Inside the ballroom, both Elliot and Ilene had seen both Avery's chase and the new arrivals. "Hmm, this should be interesting," Elliot commented. He wasn't surprised that Avery had gone after the princess upon her rushing away but it was still odd seeing him actually pursuing someone. At one point Elliot wondered if he was hiding something himself. Elliot turned his attention to the new arrivals then. The more lady like of the first two sisters was quickly asked to dance by the heir apparent which left the more warrior-esque one. She looked interesting.
"Ilene, I am going to ask one of the Grayson's to dance. Will you be all right?"
"Yes, of course. I was about to tell you to prowl elsewhere. One of the princes' is free and I want to dance with someone other than my brothers though I appreciate you both," Ilene answered him and patted his shoulder.
"Well if that isn't a 'shoo' I don't know what is," Elliot grinned before he gave a small bow and made his way up to the front of the ballroom to stand before the queen, Rhaegar, and the new arrivals. He gave a rich bow and took Selene's hand and kissed her knuckles. "Good evening, my lady," he cooed to her. "Might I entice you to your first dance of the evening?"
Ilene smiled softly. Well it looked like both of her brothers were going to get something out of this evening. It seemed that her chance to dance with Rhaegar had been stolen away yet again. She sighed and looked over at Brom. She wanted to be the proper lady and wait for a gentleman to ask her to dance but... that hadn't panned out well the first time around and she didn't want to be left out... again. Currently, a pirate was available to dance with or Brom. She would pick Brom any day of the weak over a pirate. She swallowed a bit of fear before she walked towards Brom a moment before she faltered. He was eating. Didn't that mean he didn't want to be disturbed? Ilene shook her head and patted herself on the cheeks to snap herself out of this sudden shyness. Both of her brothers had walked straight up to who they wanted to dance with. She could do the same. She was just as brave as they!
Ilene completed her action and walked up to Brom then and curtsied. "Good evening, my lord," she called to him with a smile. "Might I ask for a dance from you?"
When Lord Vladimir bowed before the King he nodded his head and returned it with his own bow. β€œYour majesty. It has been to long!”
Magnus nodded his head, giving the man a friendly pat on the shoulder. "That it has. It warms the heart that you all have come so far to join us for the season."
The Lord then introduced his wife, β€œI am sure you remember by wife, Lady Desdemona.” She curtsied and smiled towards the king.
He returned the smile, stepping towards her and taking her hand. "Of course I do. Radiant as ever my Lady." He gently took her hand in his, placing a friendly kiss upon it.
β€œAnd my sons. Lord Cain and Lord Commander Calder.” Each one of the sons slowly approached greeting him. Magnus returned the bow towards Cain, then turned towards Calder. The young man approached him with confidence, and a more foreign custom, placed on a kiss on either cheek that Magnus returned.
Afterwards he waved his hand to dismiss his guards. "Forgive them. They are only used to the customs of the Blackvale." He then glanced towards Vladimir, "Strapping young lads. You should be proud." He then turned slightly, holding out his hand towards the castle as to guide them inside. "Please dear friends, our home is your home. My wife and I have a glorious ball that has already commenced in honor of all of our wonderful guests."
Magnus entered the ballroom with the Thorne's shortly after his wife escorted the Grayson's inside. While the crowd was still temporarily hushed, he gestured towards the final arrivals. "The last of our guests have joined us. The Thornes." He smiled, "Everyone please continue your festivities! Dance, eat, drink and be merry!!"
Guinevere tried to stifle a smirk as Elizabeth's grasp on her arm tightened. Enough so she knew that the Lady did not like it, which only seemed to stoke the fires inside. "Oh yes, well, fate seemed to have had other plans for me," The Queen watched the woman smile towards her husband, whom returned the smile towards her.
After she announced the family to the room and watched as the girls were both whisked away to dance, Guinevere leaned in to whisper in Elizabeth's ear. "Do you love him?" Her gaze locked with the silver haired woman, she chuckled. "Oh no not Magnus... We both know about your feelings for him. I mean your husband. Do you love him? Or do you love the idea of him? She paused for a moment, before speaking with a softer tone, "Or do you love the possibility of making my husband jealous of seeing you 'happy'?"
The Queen looked back over towards Robert giving him a friendly smile that was softly smothered with a hint of seduction. Guinevere was a master at making many men crawl on their knees for her and it would do her great satisfaction if she could seduce Elizabeth's husband right from underneath her. But the more she looked at Robert, another thought grew in her mind. She let her gaze drift back towards Selene. "Selene... Such a lovely girl. It's a shame she doesn't have your eyes..." Guinevere slowly released the woman's arm and just before she slithered through the crowd, she left the Lady with one final whisper, "...Or your husband's."
She grinned mischievously as she left the woman to stand there and let her words stew. Guinevere may be many things, adulteress, Queen, bitch, strong... But another thing most over look is that she is smart. Possibly smarter than her own good, which could get a lot of people in a sticky predicament with her. Afterall, Blackmail was her weapon of choice.
Gwendolynn sat on the edge of the fountain staring down at her hands. Red curls slipped loose from their place in her intricately done hair Francine did. It didn't suit her though. She felt like a doll being put on show to be sold to the highest bidder. So even though she got her hands wounded, and her dress practically ruined by the champagne, she couldn't help but laugh. Her nimble fingers picked the few pieces of glass from her palms. And as she went to soak her hand in the waters of the fountain she heard steps approaching.
"I know. I'm sorry, I'll back inside in-" She started her apology as she spun around, assuming she'd be facing a rather upset mother. But her words fell from her lips when she saw a young man standing before her. He was blonde like her brothers, and somewhere in the middle when it came to length. He stood about as tall as them as well, but where her brothers had pronounced jawlines, this man had soft features.
What was he doing out there? Everyone else was inside, dancing amongst themselves. But here he stood. The only one to take any notice to her disappearance. She sat there just looking up at him, thinking of something to say. The breeze blew the curls that fell before her face. And as Gwen raised her hand up to brush them back she noticed his gaze shift to one of surprise at the noticing of her palms. Her eyes widened as she saw him reach for his sleeve. She reached out her hands to stop him, "Don't-" But he had already torn the fabric from his fancy shirt without a second thought.
Gwen's gaze followed him as he took a knee on the ground before her. She didn't pull away or stop him from taking her hand in his. Her hand seemed so small compared to his but he was still able to work so diligently. At one point when his thumb brushed over a callus in her palm, she instinctually closed her hand momentarily. Princesses should have hands like silk. You have the hands of a farmer, Her mother would always nag at her. She was the most un-Princess like Princess in the world. Her gaze fell as a soft sigh escaped her lips and she slowly let her hand open once again.
She couldn't help but raise a brow with a soft chuckle when he pulled a flask off of his person. "Did you think the ball was going to be that unbearable?" A slight smirk graced her lips as she slightly motioned her head towards the flask.
"This is going to sting a little but it should keep your wounds clear until you can check in with a medic. I think I took everything out, but it never hurts to be sure." She nodded her head. Of course she was too stubborn to ever even show the medic what she did. That and she knew they'd blab the second she was gone to her mother. When the alcohol touched her wound, she winced biting down on her bottom lip slightly.
"There. Is the binding too tight, My Lady?" Her gaze fell to the bindings, her index finger and thumb of her right hand gently rubbed the ties of the bindings on her left hand. She couldn't help but smile slightly as this man ruined his shirt just because she hand a few cuts in her hand. "I can adjust it if it is."
She ignored his question, but in all honesty it didn't register in her mind just yet. "It's Gwendolynn... Or Gwen, if my Mother's not around." Gwen then shook her head realizing what he said. "No... it's fine. Thank you." She offered him a seat beside her as she thumbed over the bindings on her hands.
Gwendolynn looked around at the gardens around her, never really able to enjoy them. The stars seemed to sparkle almost brighter that night. But then again almost everything seemed more beautiful than the party of pretenders inside. She looked back over towards him as a soft breeze kept pulling more stray curls from her hair. "You're Avery Thatcher, right?" She looked him over, a smile softly growing upon her lips. "How long have you been watching me?... I mean, you were the only one who noticed me disappear."
Brom took another bite of his apple as he watched over the proceedings of the ball. He tried to tally in his mind how many of the young ladies there were secretly plotting their chance to win over Rhaegar... Or at least get in his bed. Both thoughts made him laugh as he crunched off another bite. What people failed to realize was how smart the heir to be was. Plus he was a hopeless romantic. For Brom he just liked women and it'd take a very special woman that would make him even consider a monogamous situation.
He wasn't standing there along for long though. Just as he took another bite of the apple, a stunning brunette stepped before him and curtsied. "Good evening, my lord, Might I ask for a dance from you?"
Brom raised his brows curiously, bowing towards her before tossing the apple over his shoulder accidentally hitting a servant in the shoulder. "Oops." He laughed slightly before looking back towards the girl. He bowed, taking her hand in his and placing a kiss upon it. "Ilene, is it not?" He offered her his arm, "You may have whatever you please."
He lead the beauty to the center of the floor. His left hand rested upon her waist while his right hand held her petite hand. He effortlessly guided her about the room, enjoying the dancing for a moment before he decided to break the silence. "So... I can't help but wonder. Did a beautiful Lady such as yourself ask me to dance because she wanted to dance with me?" He then released her waist to twirl her. And as he brought her back towards him he continued, "Or... Was I the second best option because the right Prince is occupied?"
Brom smirked down towards her. "And don't lie... I can tell when I'm being lied to." He raised a brow before he twirled them about the room. Their momentum occasionally causing loose blonde hairs to blow before his face.
Rhaegar couldn't help but smile when he saw the young lady he asked for a dance look towards her sister as if asking for help. He leaned forward slightly, whispering towards her, "I promise I don't bite." Then the corner of his mouth turned upwards into a friendly smile.
The girl smiled timidly towards him while taking his hand. "Of course your highness."
"You may call me Rhaegar... I never liked 'your highness'" He held out their hands, escorting her to the floor like the gentleman he was raised to be. He then placed one hand upon the middle of her back, while his other hand nearly engulfed her own petite one.
She was silent for a good while as he guided her in a dance. But eventually it seemed she had something she wanted to say. "You're like a giant, you know that?"
Rhaegar's gaze looked down to meet hers as he broke out in laughter. His smile nearly stretched from ear to ear as she twirled her around. "I have heard that." When he brought her back towards him, he continued. "My brother is just as tall but almost twice as wide. He cares too much about his muscles." He said teasingly while wiggling his eyebrows. "We get it from our Father. He's kind of a giant too... It's just most people are never close enough to be able to tell."
As he was dancing with Lilith, he slowly started to bend at his knees until he was roughly at her height. "Is this better?" He laughed, "Please say yes because this hurts." Rhaegar chuckled. For some reason the girl reminded him a lot of Gwendolynn. He felt at ease with letting his goofier side slowly make an appearance.
Avery smiled at Gwen and chuckled lightly at her comment about his flask. "Well, I did think the ball was going to be a bit on the boring side, but I don't actually drink. This is for Elliot and Ilene. You would be amazed at what they can get into that requires a bit of a disinfectant. I am glad I had some on me for you," he answered her, his hands lingering ever so slightly on her hands. He was honestly surprised. Her hands weren't soft and silk like. All the noble women he had seen and had touched had skin as soft as rose petals. Hers felt rough and dry, more like his and it made him wonder why. What did she do on her free time? Was she someone he could actually relate with? It was for further investigation that was for sure but it did give him hope.
Gwen. She wanted him to call her Gwen when her mother was not around. He liked that. It was cute. He flushed lightly when he realized he hadn't even introduced himself. He made an awkward bow before he sat down beside her as she requested. Yes. I am Avery Thatcher," he answered her. "Sorry I didn't introduce myself. My name is pretty short so I don't have much in the way of nicknames unless you want to follow my sister's lead and call me cabbage," he answered with a laugh. "And... well, I have been watching you quite a while," he admitted. "There is no doubt, you are the most beautiful woman I've seen and I am not just saying that to flatter. Since you were dancing with someone, I did not think it very nice to interrupt. I was hoping to catch you when it was time for a partner switch," he explained to her. "I wanted a chance to talk to you ...and now I don't what to say," he chuckled and ran a hand through his hair, his ripped sleeve falling forward to tap his face thanks to the movement. He needed to fix that. He proceeded to rip at the sleeve until it was a little bit more manageable. It didn't look like the most fashion forward attire but at least he didn't have wayward pieces of cloth flapping in the breeze. Mother was going to kill him. This was the only nice courtly outfit he had.
"So, Gwen," he said with a smile, "What made you choose a pirate as your first dancing partner?" he asked then. "I saw your mother's face. Was it to spite her? What is it really that you are looking for?"
Ilene was blushing. She tried to be the dignified young lady that she was but she couldn't help but blush. Brom was a handsome man; even more so up close. And he had remembered her name! With all of the people introduced, she was surprised he remembered at all. It made her heart skip a beat and she was eager to take the prince's hand. "Yes, I am Ilene." she answered as the prince led her to the dance floor. She couldn't stop smiling! Oh she must look like a fool. Still, she was happy as the man began to move with her. She didn't think anything could ruin this moment save for her brothers but they were both occupied. Happy day!
At least until Brom asked her a question she didn't really want to answer. She twirled into his embrace and looked up at the man as he finished answering his question, a teasing light in his eyes. It was disarming and she didn't want to lie. If he could tell between a lie and truth, it was best to tell the truth. She didn't want to start off on the wrong foot. She offered him a smile then as they continued to dance. "You wound me my lord!" she said then putting on obviously fake distraught face. Then she smiled at him as they continued dancing. "Unfortunately, I do have to admit that my first inclination was to dance with your brother but I think I should count myself lucky he was occupied. You seem far more interesting to get to know." And Brom was proving himself to be charming and definitely an amazing dancer. She was glad she hadn't waited. She saw what waiting got her; nothing. She was going to have to be more forward from now on to get what she wanted.
"And why didn't you ask another lucky lady to dance?" she asked then. "You have no shortage of ladies at this court and yet I found you all alone. Is there another woman you are picturing in my stead? And don't lie to me," she returned with a grin, "I can tell when people lie to me. It is a perk of having siblings, I am sure you understand."
~~~
"Well aren't you the cutest. I don't know, may you?"

Elliot couldn't help but chuckle at her words. Cute? He hadn't heard someone call him cute in a while. Well he'd see how long that sentiment lasted him. And she seemed fun. She was teasing right back and pulled him towards the dance floor. She certainly wasn't a dainty flower like the other noble women. He liked that. He wasn't interested in dainty and fragile damsels. Maybe that was the real reason he preferred men. Ah well. This was going to be fun regardless. Maybe he'd make a friend out of her. It would be nice to have friends outside of his family's court.

Once they reached the dance floor, Elliot rested his hand around her waist and started the dance. Like his sister he liked dancing and it didn't matter what gender his partner was so long as they didn't step on his toes."You are a good dancer, Lady Selene. Though I suppose it comes with the territory if you are a warrior," he smiled. "All warriors are marvelous dancers; on and off the field." He gave her a wink then.
