The Catalysts

The Catalysts

0 INK

A recent scientific breakthrough found the ability to give certain people astonishing powers. The use of these powers have been either to heal or destroy, which will you be?

8,036 readers have visited The Catalysts since Mr. Inkwell created it.

Introduction

Brief Overview(Only use to gauge your interest, if interested, be sure to read the rest).

The Horizon Foundation is one of the world's leaders in genealogical research. And this became evident upon discovery of "The Catalyst Gene", which gave each person who had it the ability to perform amazing feats, and wield unbelievable powers. The powers were unique, and varied person to person, but, the cost of activating these powers is tremendous, and has the potential to kill possible "Catalysts". In Emperia city, the 'homeplace' of the Catalyst gene, several groups of interest began to emerge from the shadows.

The Horizon Foundation:
The secretive 'creators' of the Catalyst Gene. What they plan to do with Catalysts is unknown, but they've begun amassing a private army within the confines of Emperia city, either for protection, training, or a hostile takeover, is unknown.

The Chaos Insurgency
The splinter-cell group formed by a former Horizon Foundation member. What their true motives are is unknown, but they seem to counter the Horizon Foundation at every turn, stealing their research, and 'liberating' their test subjects.

The Manna Charitable Foundation
A interfaith humanist act, set upon destroying the Catalysts in it's own 'crusade', while mass producing Horizon Technology, and giving the tech and designs to third-world countries. While acting as an interfaith charity foundation, they seem to have their own agenda and are capable to act upon it with ease.

The Freelance Initiative
A group of escaped Catalysts, each pledging to use their gifts for good, often acting as 'heroes' for the city. They try and not attack the Horizon Foundation, The Chaos Insurgency, or the MCF, save for when threatened, and pressed.

The Devil's Hand
The renegade group from The Freelance Initiative. Formed to keep themselves separate from the 'idealist' group that refuses to accept their true place in life. They use their power to take what they want, and they fight anyone who opposes them.

The Hunter Blacklist
A small handful of bounty hunters, mercenaries, and hackers, they excel in finding and eliminating targets for excessively high profit. With the recent power struggle in Emperia, they moved to keep their ties with anyone who can pay the most.

For more information on each of these groups, check the OOC topic pages. For the sake of simplicity, if you join a group, go to the group OOC page and say "Joined- (Character's name).

Limitations

Virtually none. (Check the OOC Announcements page). You can play as a Catalyst, a Chaos Insurgent, both, neither, or a spy for one or the other. Really, I haven't any qualms with creativity. Give it your best shot.

Requirements

Now, since there is so much stuff, I'd like to have a certain number of things filled before we actually begin the RP, so that is has a nice strong start. I'll post the roles needed here. You aren't required to fill them, but they must be filled for the RP to start.

At least one
Horizon Foundation Personnel - Filled
Chaos Insurgent Personnel - Filled
Freelance Initiative 'leader' - Filled
Devil's Hand 'ruler' - Filled

Also, since I want to see fair balancing, (no 10 Foundation to 1 Chaos Insurgent), I'll post the number of active people in each group here. Keep this in mind when making a character, joining an over-popped group may cause your character to be rejected.

Total Characters: 19
Horizon Foundation Members: 3
Chaos Insurgency Members: 2
Manna Charitable Foundation Members: 2
Freelance Initiative Members: 3
Devil's Hand Members: 3
Blacklist Hunters Members: 3
Unaligned: 3

Also, because I like polls, here's some more.
Males: 8
Females: 11

Catalysts: 16
Non-Catalysts: 3

Character Creation

All of the information below is required for you to create a character. You can present it in any form you want, but I'll provide a template here just in case. But, before you create a character, I suggest you read through the groups, and places pages first. After character creation, make sure you're up to date with whatever happened last in the RP. (If you want to really impress me read through the pre-existing characters).

Nickname: (Optional)

Toggle Rules

  1. No Godmodding.
  2. RESPECT OTHER WRITERS AND THEIR ABILITIES. They wouldn't have gotten in if I didn't want them here, and thought they could benefit the RP, so please. Just leave problems like that to me. If it bugs you enough, PM me.
  3. Anyone can die, just be sure the person who is dying is okay with it, but also don't be unrealistic. If you get crushed beneath a bus, you better not come out like, "Yo, what's up? I'm chill." You better have a serious reason for pulling a stunt of extreme survivability like that.
  4. Also, no luck. Well, some luck, but not too much.
  5. Swearing is permitted okay? If you have a problem with it, perhaps move on.
  6. Be fair about your characters abilities. Make them too good to be true, and I'll kick you. No questions asked.
  7. You don't have to reply to EVERY POST.
  8. Try and post consistently.
  9. Romantic situations are fine, just let's not go into too much detail about it, 'kay?
  10. Try and uphold a certain quality of writing. I'm not too strict, but please know basic english and grammar rules first.
  11. At the moment, you can have as many characters as you want, so long as you're effectively able to keep up with it.
  12. Be sure you're familiar with the RP's recent events before joining.
  13. No copying powers, unless you actually planned it TOGETHER, otherwise, try and be different from the rest.
  14. If you have any questions, tell me in the OOC page, or PM me. PM-ing is probably faster, but the OOC is also frequented by other people than me. (I hope)
  15. If you want to reserve a specific role in the RP, do it in the OOC, so as to be sure everyone else can see it. I'll keep the Intro fairly-updated, but still, check the OOC before making a character.
  16. Every Power has a cost, what's yours? (Don't make a Mary Sue).
  17. No, (or very limited), RC-ing
  18. Don't be an asshole. Well, your characters can be assholes, just not YOU.

"Did we wake you mother fucker?"

"Sorry, this place is off-limits for today..."

"...on the tip of my tongue..."

"...brother..."

Hunter's eyes shot open. His head still swarming with ghosts of people, shadows of places. His eyes closed involuntarily, reacting to the bright, constant, buzzing, lights kept on everywhere in the facility. The bed below him was soft, but seemed rather stiff somehow. It wasn't his bed. His muscles aching, he tried sitting up, to no avail. Thick straps held his arms and legs in place. Evidently someone was afraid he was going to escape. His mind raced back to memories of his time locked in the insurgency, strapped to a wall, bled dry of information and willpower.

His fists clenched, as he shot straight up in his bed, his eyes wide and furious. Never again. The straps tore rather easily, and a metallic crashing sound could be heard, drawing Hunter's eyes. A tall stand had been rigged to him, several red pouches spilling their contents upon the floor. The smell hit him, recognition hitting him like a brick wall.

Blood

He had been close to death. A brush close enough to make his handlers worry. Looking back down, he followed the broken tubes from the floor to his arms and legs. The mattress around him was stained a dull red, giving the bed that stiff, canvas feeling. Then sounds began to register in his mind. His head was clearing, no doubt due to his disconnection from the feeds. They must have mixed some sort of anaesthetic into the blood supply, hoping it would keep him calm. But not anymore. His veins were pumping adrenaline through his system, closely followed by fear. He had been nearly helpless at the hands of that beast, and he knew had the Foundation not intervened, he would be another soul claimed by Craven's hands.

A small beeping noise broke Hunter's thoughts. The device on the floor, was beeping a constant, droning noise. A distress call. Someone would be there to check on him in a moment. Hunter silently prayed it wasn't Ozpin. Pulling himself together, Hunter fell to the floor, slipping on the slick, red, liquid that had created an impressive pool throughout the room.

Then the door clicked, and swayed. A dark-haired head poked into the room cautiously eying the bed. The intruders eyes hidden behind a pair of rectangular, wire-rimmed spectacles. Two glistening green eyes peering out behind them.

"Fuck."

"Mind your language." Ozpin scolded, dipping the rest of the way into the room. "Youre being recorded."

Hunter looked at him skeptically, before Ozpin added meekly, "I'm legally bound to tell you."

"So we're past stepping over laws?"

"No." Ozpin chuckled, closing the door, "We just like sticking those we can. You know how it is. Morality and all."

"I'm afraid I've nearly left morals behind."

"You're an average demon then." Ozpin looked at the floor disdainfully, "Clean up in here, then meet me and Mr. Maddox down in the briefing room."

The door closed on him, leaving him in a room spilling over with blood.

Moments later, he existed the now clean, dry room, licking his lips.

"Ah, another time then." Lucielle chuckled. "Still, you won't do so well without a good meal..."

She trailed off, keeping her gaze from the beast behind her. Holding up an arm, she pointed down into the heart of the Outskirts. "There's a nice little trailer park down that way. I hear they're just getting over a mysterious fire. The children there have the cutest screams."

She let silence blow between them, dust settling in the breeze. Leaves rustling and twisting in the early morning light. The rusted bridge glinted, swaying slightly. The air held a timeless quality. Breathing in a deep breath, she dropped her arm. Glancing back, she saw the shadow shift behind her.

"Oh, and Craven." Lucielle turned, looking at the creature's back. She snapped her fingers, a burning flame streaking from her hand and into Craven's chest. "Don't kill them all. I still need some entertainment."

The smell of burning flesh reached her nose. Lucielle smiled. She extinguished the flame. She wouldn't kill him, he had to many, intriguing factors. Her hand waved a farewell to Craven. Ash and soot clouded the air. With cinders and coals disguising her movements, she climbed to the top of the bridge effortlessly.

"This land is mine Craven, you'd be wise to behave in it."

The meeting wasn't a problem for him and when the small stream of flame struck his chest, it only compounded the notion that he could do very little at this point besides posture and spit. She was far more interesting then the other catalyst that he had encountered and fed upon in the last few weeks, though her reasons for approaching and giving him free reign at this point were still beyond a method of question. He could hardly argue with her, he was so hungry that he could feel his vision becoming blurry and the tips of his fingers were beginning to break away into ash.

He burst from the bridge into a frenzied run, putting distance between himself and Lucielle. He knew that some point in the future she would show up again, only because her interest in his was very obvious. Though he could barely be asked to care about what was going to happen later, or even think about it now.

His feet carried him for nearly a half mile before he caught his first meal, despite it being a homeless man and the taste of dirty scarf lingering on his pallet. Craven still ran on with his face in the wind, not wanting to miss any opportunity to feed and regain his strength. Upon finding the place he saw that Lucielle was correct, the area did suffer a decent blaze. Several of the small trailers were gutted and blackened by flame. Though they were now covered with tarps and tapped off from the rest of this small community.

He had managed to climb onto the edge of an outside fence wall and was just looking on as very few people could be see milling about. There were simple people, with simple lives and Craven could tell this. For now however, they would have to do.

The news drulled on in an endless form as the previous day was slowly brought to the public. Of course, among, was the gunfire in the streets, just outside the tech bar, as well as the smoldering pile of rubble that Jericho knew far too well. In usual fashion, the locals didn't have much of anything to report, besides that it happened and it can only be assumed that a Catalyst is to blame. (They weren't wrong, but it still seemed wrong to just assume it.)

However, it was the rest that Jericho found interesting. He pulled himself upright on the couch as a story was detailed that involved dismembered bodies and helicopter gunfire riddling a building. At least, that was the gist of the important parts. Above all, they spoke on the strange ways blood and bone was either splayed all over, or missing from its place. Anytime a mystery involving blood came up, Jericho always knew who to drop the blame on; Mr. Blood Titan, Hunter. (He wasn't wrong, but it seemed right to assume.)

---

Finally, word had reached Jericho that his bloody coworker indeed had a rough night. A night that warranted a stay in the more medical parts of the labs...and a mop. Surely, a riveting tale was to be told by a survivor who held onto life by the skin of his teeth through the use of pure fortitude and sheer luck. This...deserved some fresh coffee. A task that Ozpin took up to both occupy time and to make sure Jericho didn't break anything. For once, Jericho himself was seated in silence, resubmerging himself in thought.

Pandora woke up to some homeless guy trying to search her in some back alleyway of the city. It took her a couple moments before she truly realized what was going on. "I'm not fucking dead! Get lost!" She shooed the man away, the loudness of her own voice sending a painful ringing in her ears. Her hands raising to cover her ears from the overpowering noises of the hustle and bustle of Emperia. Hungover... Great. That's all she needed, drink herself to the bottom of a bottle while also having wounds that had a potential to be fatal.

With a grunt, she pushed her hands off the ground and brick wall, heaving her body to her feet. As she stretched just about every joint in her body snapped and cracked. She was surprised that her body felt better than it did the day prior, more than apparent that her exo skeleton was doing its job. It took her a long moment before she could build up the courage to unzip her suit down about 6-7 inches, and tug the collar sideways to see the bullet wound. Her eyes widened as it had scabbed up, and already began healing. She couldn't help but smile slightly while running her hands over the wound, "Hot damn!" She said under her breath.

With that, she zipped her suit back up and made her way out of the alley onto the street, seeing a news crew over near the rubble of the building that Jericho and she had demolished the day before. She couldn't hear everything that was being said, but enough to know that the story they were telling was totally and completely wrong. Pandora couldn't help but chuckle to herself as she made her way in the opposite direction. With a sigh, she decided that she probably needed to head back to the Insurgency. She wasn't looking forward to it, she knew she'd probably get scolded at by just about every member. She wanted to avoid that but she couldn't steer clear of there forever so better to just deal with it now and get it over with.

Slicking back her short brunette hair, Pandora slowly made her way for the Entropy Inc.

"Rose."

"Yes, Mr. Hatt?"

"Send out a team of "Investment scouts out to our location in the Ward. Give them the drive, and tell them to move on foot. The long way around the city."

"Alrighty."

Rose dropped a flower into a small clay pot with one hand as she worked through a string of commands on her laptop. Alias stood, rubbing the bridge of his nose as he gazed onto the stack of paper before him. It seemed to him that when one of his associates detonated a building, he seemed to have to take care of the paperwork and covering it up. He had already "leaked" falsified information from a subsidiary in construction and demolition, claiming it to be a mix of a freak gas leak and terrible infrastructure. He had also been sure to place a few disguised personnel among those questioned on the streets, hoping to mislead them there again. But inevitably, like the tide, the truth inevitably boiled to the surface.

Catalysts.

It seems since their inception of the gene, people have blamed just about everything on his kind. With rather good reason though, he had to admit, they had been the cause for at least half of the cities recent problems. The rise in crime. The rise in sudden "infrastructure malfunctions". The loss of the Outskirts. Fires. Disappearances. Paranormal activity. But the worst of all, the shift of public attention.

Before, hiding the company's true motives only took a hidden basement, and a few locks and keys. But now, with task forces of police men and Foundation personnel barging through, searching for an odd "rouge catalyst", it became much harder to hide. Now it was mounds upon mounds of paperwork, and covert paradigm power shifts. Thankfully, the last of which spoke to Alias. It was something he was a god at. Rather, a shadow king.

"Rose?"

"Yes?" She didn't look up from her odd display of mental efficiency, still planting and potting plants while coding and encrypting files.

"Forward all of this to Pandora. If she wants to be involved, let her."

"Yes sir."

Alias rose from his chair, striding to the window. "How's my other project going?"

"The one with the bomb?"

"No, the other one."

"The Mayor?"

"No, I-" Alias cleared his throat, calming himself. "I mean the child."

"Oh. Him. He's moving along just as expected."

"Will he be ready at the appointed time?"

"With his current rate of progression, he should be more than ready."

"Good."

Alias let the conversation drop. Scanning the horizon, his thoughts were brought back to Pandora, "Likely passed passed out in an alley somewhere..." He grumbled to himself.

"What was that?"

"Nothing..."

Pandora made her way through the entrance of Entropy Inc., whispers and mumbles were exchanged by just about every member as she walked passed them. She just rolled her eyes in annoyance, not even going to humor their stupidity as she worked her way through the building. It took her awhile before she found Hatt and his minion, their backs to her, they obviously had no idea that she was actually in the building as they began to discuss sending something to her and what not. She was about to step into the conversation when she was cut off hearing Hatt mumble, "Likely passed passed out in an alley somewhere..."

With that she smirked to herself, placing her hands on her hips before piping up, "I hate to disappoint but..." She then stepped up beside the male, glancing over her shoulder towards him. Before she could add another comment, she began to hear the whispering of the crowd behind her. With an aggravated sigh she pivoted to face them, "Take a picture, it lasts longer." She then once again turned towards him, "So... what am I wanting to get involved in?" She raised a slender brow out of curiosity.

"Nice for you to drop by. Next time, you could've closed the door however..." Alias motioned to the door, which promptly slammed on the faces of a few individuals, who had gathered to look at the daring intruder.

"Rose dear, have we gotten a good grip on where the suspect lives yet?"

Rose dropped a small bundle of calla lilies into the pot, quickly covering them with dirt, and brushing the offending substance from her hands and outfit. Her phone immediately found her hands, and she tapped away for only a moment before responding.

"Yes. Well, sorta." She admitted, a large screen on the far wall alighting with a picture of a map, "I've narrowed it down as best I possibly can, with the given equipment." She said the last part through gritted teeth, before returning to her cheerful demeanor. "The sender is definitely within Ascension Parish. Unfortunately," she looked a bit embarrassed, "As that is yet another residential area, it's impossible to truly narrow it down any further without technological enhancements."

"Thank you Rose," Rose nodded, before returning to her laptop. Smiling almost maniacally as her hands ran over the beautiful machine. "So, this is where you come in." Alias motioned towards Pandora, while sauntering over to the map, "The Insurgency has granted me permission to further development with the alleged contact. Though, we can't be working with a complete stranger." Turning to face Pandora now, he continued, "We're going to pay the contact an amount of money she can't refuse, while you try and discover the identity of the contact. At the very least, we want her drawn from the shadows."

The screen went blank, Alias finished his speech, and hobbled back to his desk. He was beginning to feel the accumulated years resting upon his spine, forcing him to rely on his cane more and more each day. He found himself envying Pandora, both for her quicker reflexes, and her dexterity and resilience in any situation.

"Any questions?" He hesitated, only to speak again, noting Pandora's look. "Please, take a seat, and let's talk this over some tea. If you want some privacy, then I'll ask Rose here to leave. But we must discuss this. Our positions and livelihoods depend on it. Big changes are in store."

Pandora crossed her arms over her chest, genuinely listening to what Hatt was saying. Sure she liked pushing his buttons, she liked aggravating everyone but this was work related and considering he actually felt it necessary to include her. She respected and appreciated that. When he told her to take a seat, she didn't argue, moving around the table until she took a seat. Then leaning the chair back slightly, she kicked her feet up onto the table and crossed them. Tea sounded good, probably would help her hangover as well. "I could use some tea," She rubbed her temples, chuckling as she gave Hatt the satisfaction of knowing he was right, "You were right by the way... I was passed out in an alley." She laughed.

"So..." She crossed her arms behind her head, looking over to her colleague, "How exactly am I supposed to draw this person from the shadows? I mean... I could blow up half of Emperia... Doesn't mean that it's going to attract anyone to come out of hiding." She slid her feet off the table, leaning forward so her elbows rested upon the table, "I'm good at creating chaos, but we both know that I don't attract people, I repel them. If anything I scare them away."

Alias nodded to Rose, who promptly rolled her eyes, before producing a steel teapot from some unseen location. Carrying it over, she also brought two steel, featureless cups, and set them before the two.

Pouring a cup for himself and his guest, he addressed her questions. "Good, scare them away from hiding. Get them in the eye of the public, we both know you can do that. Though, I'd recommend against obliterating the city, as the government would be upon us in moments, sniffing through everything like the dogs they are."

"Though tread lightly, a few odd incidences lately have draw eye of some of our authorities. While I'm good at hiding things from those outside these walls, the few that built them is a rather different story." He shifted in his seat, his hands coming together, "Take the cup if you need to, we both have some paperwork to deal with." He slid a large stack of forged documents to Pandora. "Though, I'd suggest a shower first."

Pandora reaches out to take the cup once it was full, blowing the steam from the liquid before taking a long drink. "Well, I never claimed I wouldn't. The thing I'm having trouble with is figuring out how I'm going to scare this mystery person out into the open. And I didn't plan on blowing up half the city unless I ran out of options but, I mean..." She leaned forward slightly, "I mean I'm not scared of being pulled out into the open, but if I was... I would just move from one place to the next in an endless chase until either the pursuer gives up or, I don't know." She shrugged her shoulders.

Pandora sighed softly, nodding her head "I'll try but I can't make any promises." Her eyes widened when he slid the large stack of paperwork before her, "You act like I actually do paperwork." She scoffed. Standing up and kicking the chair backwards out of her way, she finished off her tea. "Well that's rude." She headed towards the door, walking passed Rose. She placed her hand upon the door, glancing over her shoulder towards Alias, "Feel free to join me." She winked towards him. She tried her best not to come off sarcastic, she did it mostly just to see his reaction.

She walked through the halls of Entropy, making her way to the lower levels until she found the female locker room.

"Sorry to keep you waiting." Hunter lurched into the room, waiting for his eyes to adjust to the low level of the light.

He maneuvered his way through the usually-crowded room, finally taking a seat in one of the cushioned steel chairs that sat behind the couch. Professional to the end, he thought, his years of military training always proving difficult to shake off. He saw Jericho sitting before him, in a couch, with Ozpin leaning against a surprisingly old television set, one that had a turn dial for channels. Not quite cutting edge technology.

Exchanging a halfhearted greeting with Jericho, he turned to face the dimly lit researcher in the corner. Seeing the attention rest upon him, Ozpin straightened his glasses, before turning to address the break room's other occupants. "Morning you two. Hope you had a delightful nap." He shot a glance at Hunter, but kept on with his speech anyway, "I hope you guys aren't shy this morning. We have some things we need to discuss."

He pulled the television set forwards, flipping it on, and cranking the dial as he did so, until the screen was filled with events both familiar and alien to Hunter.

Our top story tonight; Emperia residents were greeted this evening with an insane series of events. Reports say that there was gunfire at a local tech bar this evening, and a military grade helicopter firing upon a rooftop. We take you to Jason, on the streets where it happened. Jason?

I'm here Barbra.

Got any more information for us Jason?

Yes, witnesses say that a women, clad in a black jump-suit came in, violently pulled one of the patrons away from their seat, only to smash the computer and charge out screaming moments later. Supposedly the woman came back only a few minutes later, here to tell us how it all went down, Laura. Hi Laura, you're a supervisor over in the tech bar, right?

Yes.

Care to explain just what happened?

Of course. I had just got on my shift when I notice some violent and aggressive behavior at one of the desks. When I moved in to investigate, the lady screamed and tore the computer from the wall, smashing it on the ground. Shocked, I stood there watching her leave. After she had gone, a tech lady came in, she was very kind, and helped me clean the mess up, and took the broken computer away. I followed her outside, only to hear a loud bang and see her drop to the ground, clutching her hand. It was only then I noticed she had been shot, by the woman who came in earlier, no less. She took something from the broken computer, and ran, before some guy started glowing blue, and I almost thought it was a play or an act, until he started shooting too. The man chased her away, and I ran inside to call for the cops. I was so scared that she was gonna turn and attack me next, ya' know?

I do know. Thanks Laura. Anything else you can tell us?

Well, when I went into the building, I heard an explosion, and screams. Terrified, I hid, then called the police as soon as I could. After I got back from calling the police, I looked back outside, only to see a large cloud of black smoke. Afraid something was on fire, I called for a fire truck too. It's just been one scary night.

It has been a terrifying night for all of us Laura. Thanks for sharing your story, and thanks for being so brave.

Barbra?

Thanks Jason, authorities say that only a few blocks from the shooting match, a entire building collapsed. Demolitions experts claim it to be a gas leak and bad infrastructure, but with all the chaos in the streets, some are connecting it to the shooting from before.

also in The Crown district, a fierce battle with monsters and blood took place on the rooftop of a local insurance firm today. The fight lasted for seemingly hours, with leaked footage from civilians on the internet. The stand-off came to a close when a large white and black helicopter flew over the building, opening fire, and collecting a limp body before flying off into the distance.

Who was behind these events is unknown, but local authorities say that it's safe to say that the recently made "Catalysts" were responsible, though we can't be to sure ourselves. Some say it was an elaborate movie shoot, others say a string of coincidences, and still others say it was an act of god. We'll leave it to you to decide that.

Still more to come, a foundry melts down in the Fifth Ward, and some are calling it an act of demons. All this, and more after the break.

Ozpin flipped off the set, pushing it back behind him. "Mr. Maddox, we'll start with you. Care to explain exactly what happened on your end? Letting the Insurgent get free? Causing a scene with civilian injuries? Flattening a building? Did you learn anything from the incursion?"

Hunter fell back in his seat, waiting for Ozpin to lay off of Jericho and start grilling him. Reaching a hand up to his head, he rubbed his temples, waiting for his headache to pass. He had to admit, he felt a little sorry for Jericho, he tried to give him a look of sympathy, in their shared moment. In the moment where they were little more than kids who had fell out of line on their trip to the store. Either by chance, or perhaps just be pure avoidance, Jericho missed his eye.

Serious to the end, Hunter thought, pulling himself back together, serious to the end.

Vanessa decided to check upon the place she were to meet Lucielle, just in case if she expected her to arrive early. Vanessa knew that Lucielle was interested in what she could do. She smiled at the thought of dazzling an audience, letting her feminine abilities strick fear and admiration into the hearts of her onlookers. "Soon, I'll be at play," she muses, "And give Thorn a spectacle of my alluring powers."

The two masked mercenaries stood on the top of yet another large building, overlooking their target area described as a small research facility, seemingly out of place when surrounded by many larger buildings. With the large glare of the late morning sun, major features of this facility could be easily defined.

James stood, looking around the area with his hands placed in his pockets while Eve was crouched down holding binoculars to the eye slits of the mask, looking over the whole facility and taking all details into consideration.
"Well?" James questioned as he soon grew bored of this reconnaissance work, it never was his kind of thing. After all, patience was never a trait of James.
"I have to say that Artemis did take in every detail. The area I see which has a high chance of our target appearing is an easy to access area." Eve replied as she lowered he binoculars in order to look towards James, "There's a single security camera looking over that area, but with the cover of darkness, we can easily carry this through."

"You've already got a plan?" James asked, his interest finally being grabbed,
"It's a vague plan, I need to observe our targets nature first. But if Artemis was right, then our chance would be to strike when he stops to scratch." Eve explained, "However, this isn't something I can do. My sword's too bulky for the job and will easily give us away."
James nodded,
"You, on the other hand, is best suited for this. Just a simple heart-stopping sonic pulse will do, and with an alleyway situated nearby which holds a large garbage bin, it's easy to get rid of the evidence. For this plan to work, we need to use our preliminary payment to grab a dark cloak. Not just to wear, but to wrap the body in."

"Alright, I understand. We should go and prepare for this then. I'm guessing you'll be hiding somewhere to strike in case something unexpected happens?"
"It's not unexpected if I've figured it out. There're currently five scenarios that have the highest probability of taking place which needs my intervention. Don't worry, they'll quickly be sorted through with a single one chosen once the opportunity arises."
James turned around to head off after Eve's explanation, signalling for his partner to quickly stand, wipe off any dirt from her dress and follow him.
With his arm around Eve's body, James made his sonic jump, giving off a massive low pitch sound as he threw himself and Eve across buildings.

-Jericho kicked his feet up onto the catch as soon as his named was spoken, giving out a slight groan as the third-degree interrogation began. It wasn't so much at the fact he had to explain himself, (seeing as it wouldn't be too hard to just say, 'No, Screw you. I didn't do it,) but at the fact that he had to re-run the events back through his mind for the hundredth time. With each time he sifted through it all and crafted ideas or theories, a brand new question would fill the place. If anything, this was the moment Jericho had been waiting for.

"No need for the list, Oz. I was there...Look, it went down like this:"

"I showed up at the tech-place, just as planned, right? I started the careful process of chatting up the people around, up until the gal I was talking to got a hole blasted in her hand. Got into a shootout with the insurgent, an explosion happened. Gave chase into an alley where she broke for the roof. I chucked a nicely aimed energy grenade, accidently dropped a building on the chick, and then...may or may-not have gone out for a drink with her..."

"...For...interrogative reasons. I mean, I let her leave, but...I kinda learned...stuff."

-As the last bit slowly struggled out, Jericho rubbed the back of his neck a tad nervously. Maybe a nice lie would have been better, but it was too late now, and he wasn't even done yet. Instead of letting any of the other two start judging the (bad) actions, Jericho pulled himself to his feet.

"Now, before we go pointing fingers about who leveled what with explosives, and who let who escape...I just want you to know that it's rough out there. You have to make those split second decisions that could mean the difference between success... and losing everything. It takes truely heroic attributes, such as true dedication, professionalism...and heart."

"..."

"That being said...Hunter ditched me to go on his own little mission, and this is all his fault."
He ended with a sharp, accusatory look towards Hunter. (With a smug grin to follow.)

~Craven~

The sun crest over the nearby walls of the lower section of homes and there it shines on a lone figure, sitting near the center of a wring of homes. The light bathes him with several strong beams as the morning sun fights through a slight cover of clouds. Craven is sitting there silently, the light is causing some patches of his flesh to bubble and sear. Though his own body is more then strong enough to mitigate whatever ill feeling this could cause. While the memories of the last hour have been playing over in his mind, as he stares at a sewage grate sitting near dead of the center of this ring.

More then a few hundred families lived here in this place and in the state of things, it was hard to believe they had a better place to go. Though now that some of them are going to be missing from this day on and with the results of some of their homes, it would be simpler to say that a more tense place could not be found. Though there were some kinds of meals that Craven did frown upon, seeing as he rather liked feeding on those strong in body and will. The young were not too his taste, lacking in flavor and mind. However in his previous state, he could be hardly judged for doing what he had to do to survive.

However now he had a different problem, it seemed that the Foundation was doing more now then just sending waves of lackeys at him. He found an opponent today that could exert power near on par with him, though his body was lacking in strength or resilience. His speed did make a heavy difference in the outcome of things and that was compounded by the fact that the Foundation was still assisting him in the end. So instead of an actual fight, Craven had to deal with someone that had the resources of an army at their disposal.

He knew now that, in order to survive this outcome, he would need an army of his own. Or at the very least a collection of bodies to help protect him..

Craven stood and reached down, several tendrils of flesh whipping out to grip the bars of the iron grate. A quick snap of his arm and the heavy cover for the drain rips free. Taking several strips of steel reinforced concrete along with it as it goes sailing through the air. He dropped into the darkness of the lower sewage systems, with several ideas in mind.

Hunter shot an accusatory look towards Jericho. "There was a slight turn of events that required my intervention." He looked back towards Ozpin, tired of feeling like a small child on trial. "Although, I'm sure you know the rest."

His interrogator looked at him expectantly, gesturing to the small black box on the set, a red light blinking on and off. A tape recorder. Obviously, the Foundation acted like a military, or rather, it's own small government. He decided to give in. He explained everything that happened. The severed head, plummeting through the streets, the mercenaries, and worst of all, Craven. He told them about the fight, and how he nearly died. He decided to end his 'tale', of sorts just when he blacked out. Silence hung in the air, and Hunter took the moment to silently criticize himself for his clumsiness. It took him a moment to realize that Ozpin was speaking once more.

"As I was saying, Mr. Thorn," Ozpin repeated, noticing Hunter snapping back to attention, "I thank you both for your time. And now," He continued, switching off the recorder, "I would love to say we have some more official things to discuss, but that, in essence, is false."

Looking rather puzzled, Hunter sat forwards. "Jericho. Hunter. The Foundation would like to thank you for your continued service. And as such, we figured we'd let you indulge yourselves a little, but only a little. Though, I would like to share that some other researchers are just tired of working around the sarcastic attitudes and odd blood fetishes." He shot them a look, cracking a smile. Finding nothing but a blank stare from Hunter, he continued. "On-site staff would like to have you, and as an extension, I, relocated to our secondary base of operations in the Fifth Ward. This is purely confidential, even for the secrecy of the Foundation, you're still officially here, where we can monitor you should anything happen. Any questions?"

Lucielle sighed, laying back on the top of the bridge, the light finally cresting high enough to reach her eyes. Out of pure annoyance she closed them. Why did she have to wait for Vanessa at such an absurd hour? Perhaps the woman had potential, but was it really worth the headaches and frustration it brought? She rolled over, the metal digging across her skin. She had better show up soon.

High in the sky, a flying morning dove burned to the ground.

Over in the distance, Lucielle could see Vanessa approaching, with grace, power, and purpose. Vanessa wore her hair down today, but Lucielle could see that Vanessa seemed to be wearing a skintight suit with a feminine symbol on the stomach and embroided with flower designs and curved lines. When Vanessa goes into earshot, she tosses hair covering her shoulder aside and calls, "I'm here, Ms. Thorn, and ready for any test."

Jericho had his head cocked with a stare that asked, 'Where is this going?' To his ears, it almost sounded like Ozpin should be handing them a pink slip and lightly telling them they've been let go. A relocation seemed strange, and as soon as the On-Site staff was mentioned, Jericho's eyebrow shot up in intrigue.

"Fifth Ward?"

"They're kicking us out behind the walls? Now? Of all times to take the complaints into consideration, it's when we're drawing lines for a war?"

From what Jericho knew, Fifth Ward was the industrial part of the city. Nothing there but cold machinery, pollution, and the casual bio-lab. Of course, all that seemed important, (To Horizon, not to Jericho,) but there was another key detail here: It was out of the way. Not exactly the frontlines that he had become used to. There had to have been more to this...and if not, then these researchers are real a-holes.

Of course, there was a silver-lining to this relocation; they're lengthening the leash, if not letting them off it completly. According to Ozpin, no one is going anywhere, and it's much harder to get repremanded when no one can talk about what you're doing. Too bad The Horizon Foundation loves secrets.

Letting the little conspiracy theories drop for now, Jericho shrugged before he rose to his feet.

"...I don't know what the freakin' angle is here, but I hope those bastards know what they're doing."

"Making me pack my shit."

"...Bastards."

~Craven~

The last few hours of activity for Craven had been hectic and fun, having known the sewers of the city well for some time and having used them in the past to make his way around from place to place. Though it would be assumed that every small creature that met his path down in that place, would die. He never expected to see a write of cleaning duties sent his way from the city. Too him it was all about the meal and the time he had between the next, only several streets over and he would scramble across another nest of rats. or a wild dog begging down after a morning of chasing its own damn tale. A mass of roiling and springing tendrils were his means to pass from tunnel to tunnel and he would only peak out his head and massed intersections. Only to ensure there wasn't a small camp of homeless sleeping beneath a guttered drain pipe.

But despite all the information he had rummaging around in his head at this time, the idea of what needed to be done still persisted. Knowing what the plans of the Foundation entailed for near future was not enough, he would need to prepare and in great abundance. Something that he had thought of doing, but in his addled life, never thought he be truly able to achieve. Allies were in short supply and even if he could form some small lasting allegiance in this city. The day would come that he would most likely see them as the next meal, instead of allies.

His bulk and weight displacing pipes and vents as he shoved along the route he was picking at a whim. Streams of hissing steam would reach out to give his surging flesh a searing kiss as he bucked and turned corners. Causing even more damage and the ground above the pipes to become warped, bulging with the mass beneath. Before long, Craven could feel stale air breathing into his face as he moved. It was a sign that he had reached an extremely old part of the city and someplace that he had only been a few times before. His mind did not wander on the subject for long, before his body was soon surging from an open pipe line. Taking a quick and sharp plummet towards the ground before a cold, hard, surface reached up to slap him in the face. The roiling body of tendrils surged back into its host as he stood upright and looked above his position.

He was somewhere in the old city yes, but its make was nearly archaic. His body had fallen into a vast container, set into a large tank of some sort and as he extended large spines on tendrils, to lift his body from the base. He could see other things that described were he was written about the walls of the tank. Though what little light that could be achieved from within this place, poured forth from dying bulbs in the ceiling and from the looks of their casings, it was a wonder they even worked at all. Still however, as he got to the top of the large tank, Craven adjusted the lenses of his own eyes to take in more of the light that was available and in front of him, plaster on the wall was a plaque.

Though years of grime covered its surface, a cursory wipe of his sleeve uncovered a name.

Ascension Parish tributary.

A smile grew across his face and he knew that it was here, his claim to power could start.
