Vanessa "Aphrodite" Eris

"Fate? Destiny? The fate of man is to eat off my hands and their destiny is to practically worship me! Not convinced? Then why don't I show you...?"

0 · 625 views · located in Emperia City

a character in “The Catalysts”, as played by HeroBlast

Description

Name: Vanessa Eris.

Nickname: Various nicknames, but usually Aphrodite, Venus, or Esther.

Gender: Female

Allegiance: Herself.

Appearance: 6"4' height; royal blue hair, possibly a part of her Catalyst Gene modification, if she didn't color it herself, usually kept down, free and at ankle length; luminous blue eyes; her build is one that could describe a goddess, healthy, slim, tall, and with a sultry feminine. She could wear anything, but does keep a skintight suit of armor on her at all times. She wears a necklace with a charm of a feminine symbol.

Skills/Abilities: Her Catalyst Gene enhanced her brain, granting her chaetokinesis, or hair manipulation. She can psychically alter its length, change its color, and use it as thousands of tiny limbs. A useful ability as it enables Vanessa to do thinks where her hands are limited, but dangerous as it enables her to easily entangle her opponent and leave them at her mercy. This comes with a cost, as the Catalyst Gene warped her mind and causes her to suffer from mental illness.
She is also a master of manipulation, and can use clever words, acting, or a good skill of persuasion to seduce her target.

General Information: Vanessa possesses a fun-loving and manipulative initial demeanor, sometimes making her to appear trustworthy at first. But this illusion hides a more devious and sultry side, as she lives a life of seduction to get what she wants. It is suggested that she thinks at several complex levels of thought, however, this seems to be part of a normal, intuitive trait. She talks like a dreamer, but can have a poisonous bite. She seems to work for herself, as she seems to be willing to manipulate all sides. It also appears as if she is good at reading people.

History: It is unknown which faction brought her into her powered state, she talks very little about it and little documentation of her exists, it is assumed she destroyed them on her escape. However, she does brag about how her captors, "Were easy for me to manipulate." In the shadows, Vanessa began to draw what could be a lifetime of plans, stretching all factions. Today, it seems like she begins to put those plans into motion...

So begins...

All people have desires, most people want benefit, some people create change, a few people brings movement, but only one is needed to truly create a revolution.

That is what is on the mind of a Catalyst, the plans of a rouge seeking to bring an everlasting presence, to be loved, hated, and in between. This Catalyst, this woman, wanted to bring forth an ideal world, a world she truly wanted to be. A world where children laughed and played with no fear of harm, where women were realized as the natural intellectual leaders, and where men were peaceful and didn't have the volatility that so many have. But her mind lacked ethics, she only wanted to regard her actions as right. This lack of ethics in question, is one brought up by the curse that the Catalyst Gene brought with its incredible gift. This woman possesses the extraordinary psychic power of chaetokinesis, hair manipulation. This woman can extend her hair to lengths unimaginable to us mere non-Catalysts, she can use it as an appendage, to carry delicate tasks, or to capture, kidnap, or kill with terrifying, serpent-like power, in addition, she can also change its color. But with all gifts, come a curse. This curse came as mental illness, her mind wrapped to be sadistic, neurotic, and undoubtedly cruel. Her clever mind, along with all its deviousness, caused her to create a lifetime of plans.

In an old-world home in the Ascension Perish of Emperia City, the plans are scattered in a private and secret room, on notes, pictures, and various digital monitors. Plans that are intricate and complex. She knows the goings-on, but for now, she needed allies, connections. Standing up, the woman exits the secret room, which was concealed by a statue of a fairy, and dresses into a black shirt and a long black skirt and purple overgarments that gave her a very regal appearance. She let's her flowing hair free to tumble to her ankles, colored blue, whether it be from psychic alteration, or artificial means. This woman is Vanessa Eris, but she'll forge several names.

Now, she exits for the inner Emperia City...

Vanessa arrives at the Alleyway through the lone door that separated it and the rest of Emperia City. She looks around, with her royal appearance, she could easily draw attention, which she wanted. She had heard rumors of Catalysts meeting here in secret and acting as a group of Good Samaritans.

She accounted to herself of confirming rumors outside of Horizon Foundation and the Chaos Insurgency. She knew for sure that the insurgency existed, she has both evidence and plans for them.

So Vanessa wanders the Alleyway, looking for whatever clues could suggest the existence of these Catalysts. However, she is also ready for an encounter in case if someone meets her, Vanessa decided to focus, imagine, then command her flowing hair to turn to a bright, snowy white!

Vanessa arrives from the Alleyway, she decided to continue her search for the, "Freelance Initiative," some other time. Vanessa took her time, scanning the scenery. It was after sunset, so she couldn't watch the children at the park. She loved to watch children at the park, playing, laughing, and being kids, with not a care to worry about. Vanessa always knew it was her motherly instincts that caused these feelings, a need to make them safe.

As Vanessa proceeded to the more industrious center, a smell caught her interest, the smell of fire. Fires weren't a common thing, Vanessa smiles, "I think the Burning Thorn is here," she tells herself, then she proceeded closer to the source of the burning, and maybe, evidence of Lucielle...

A few minutes of concentration found Lucielle exiting a room of smoke and soot, as she carelessly breathed in the noxious fumes. She felt the fire in her heart grow, burning hotter and hotter. Hoping the excess humiliation of soot and flames would satisfy her desire for power. She certainly felt stronger, but since she usually felt invincible, this was no great feat. All she could do is wait for a perfect opportunity to burn something.

Just as she was remembering a small gang she uncovered near her home, she stepped from the burning wreckage of the foundry. A few late night stragglers that had decided to gather around the gaping hole of an entrance noticed her. Smiling, she walked through them, loving how they parted for her in fear.

But something was missing.

Turning around to face the small group, she studied them carefully.

"I wouldn' try anythin' miss," An elderly one from the back piped up, "We've called the cops. You can't touch us, I'd jus' stay right on here, n' wait for 'em ta show." He paused, adding, "Like a responsible youn' gal'."

"Oh," Lucielle said to the old man, "I'm supposed to just wait around for men with guns to come collect me?"

The crowd closed in tighter, afraid of her every move.

"Le'mme tell ya' all something," She called out into the crowd, "I'm not scared of anyone or anything. And I'm not going to be ordered around by a bunch of low-lifes!"

Her hands lit ablaze, and she sent a volley of firebolts at the old man, watching him burn to the ground with a hungry look in her eyes. Laughing, the group dispersed, each running their own direction, all ready to spread tales of the "demon-girl" they saw. She embraced her new title, hearing some scream as they got far, far, away from her. Soon the whole street was clear, save for a few abandoned cars, and a girl looking lost across the way.

Vanessa just happened to be hiding behind a wall, more like leaning against it, as Lucielle inflicted her massacre upon the crowd. "So, this is Lucielle Thorn," Vanessa monologued, "She's just as magnificent as I heard her to be."

Vanessa then walked into view, as to try and not to startle Lucielle, "I believe you're Miss Thorn?" she called, "I'm flattered to be in your presence."

She then nonchalantly walked to the girl left by the crowd, "Please, don't be scared," she tries to reassure the girl, sitting on her knees to become the girl's height and speaking in a caring voice, "Things may seem bad, but it will be better, I promise." She then holds out her arms for the girl, sensing she wanted protection.

Lucielle turned, her eyes searching for the voice. Before her, a woman stood, slowly approaching her. Lucielle regarded the strange woman holding small child. She looked like an alien being almost, walking up to her, either from fear or respect, Lucielle didn't know. Was she there to beg for her child's life? Perhaps she was a Catalyst, much like the others that approached her, not only minding her violent tendencies, but putting forth destruction of their own? But she seemed different, to carry herself over the others. Lucielle found her gaze drifting upwards as she approached, she towered over her. Sure, Lucielle was slouching, and this woman standing perfectly straight, but even so, Lucielle found herself almost taken aback by the woman's hieght and forwardness.

Almost.

"Who might you be?" She asked, holding up a small flame in her hand, "And why so brave?"

"Go, run along," Vanessa commanded to the child, when the child does leave, Vanessa turns to Lucielle, "Pardon my shift of focus, but I needed to send the child on her way." Vanessa then smiles, her eyes looking into Lucielle's and at the dark fire on her hand. However, she just seems to nod it off, "To finish answering, I'm not trying to be brave. Just strike up a chat between us ladies. We do have similar interests."

Vanessa seems to hold herself in a ladylike tone. "My name is Vanessa Eris," she says as she bows, "I know who you are, but would you like to introduce yourself?"

Vanessa looked at Lucielle expectantly. Her eyes full of something. Fury, bravery, compassion, all registered, but one stood out above the rest.

Power.

Vanessa needed power. She lusted for it in her eyes. Perhaps, in that light, Lucielle and Vanessa were similar in that respect. She was calm, controlled. Her actions were smooth calculated. Perhaps a more experienced mind would know. Would be able to see the game Vanessa was playing.

Unfortunately, Lucielle held no such mind. He thoughts clouded with perpetual destruction, she thought of the asset a confidant person like Vanessa would make. Only if she knew her stance, her abilities.

Lucielle turned away, facing the smoldering crater. "You already know me, what's left to Introduce?" Burning the air, she encompassed her arms in pure flame. "The Demon of Emperia, The Ashen Death that falls upon the land. I am the dusk, ending the lovely sunshine and freedom this place has known for far too long."

Her arms smoldered out, leaving behind small trails of smoke that drifted into the air. "Even now, my name plagues those who hear it with fear, though..." She trailed off, turning to Vanessa, "I am still not as strong as I must be. The Devil's hand is stretching over this land, and I must be powerful enough to rule."

"So why have you come to see me?"

Sirens began to play in the distance. Lucielle wouldn't mind anouther chance to melt something to cinders, but her power was already waning, and she couldn't afford to look weak before her 'guest'.

"If you wish to speak further, come. Follow me around the corner. In the dark."

Vanessa followed, smiling, it appeared that she was making progress. "If you're the dusk," she began, "Then I must be the dawn."

From there, Vanessa began to calculate, planning her words. She knew that if Lucielle held power in her abilities, then maybe she could listen to a powerful speaker, one able to have a request issued and down in just a few words. With the way Lucielle described herself, maybe she'll listen to comparisons.

"If you're the destruction, then I'm the creation that sparks succession," Vanessa then paused, allowing time to give her words spacing, "Do you see what I'm saying? I heard of you leading a group of like-minded individuals, a group that I seek to join. If the succession I dream were to happen, there must first be destruction."

Vanessa then looked to Lucille expectantly, looking for signs of her being moved by her clever speech.

"Dawn?" Lucielle regarded the thought like a new concept. "Dawn..."

Her power had only led her to see a world of perpetual destruction. A world of fire and brimstone where her and others like her ruled, struck fear into those without their power. And with that fear, obedience. And those who lashed out were toyed with and crushed, as Lucielle Sat upon her burning throne, setting ablaze to all.

But she had never thought of what would come after.

Of the peace, of the freedom, of the tranquility, and joy it could all bring.

The thought sickened her.

Vanessa certainly had something, she was a Catalyst, that much was easy to tell, she could sense the power beneath her skin. How that power manifested was unknown. Vanessa definitely someone she'd have to keep an eye on.

"Tell you what, I'll meet with my 'friends', and we shall see. But remember," Lucielle jabbed Vanessa in the chest, "if you're not with us, you're against us."

Turning away, Lucielle stepped further into the shadows. "Meet me at the bridge to the Outskirts tomorrow this time." She said, not waiting for an answer, and stepping completely into the shadows.

An explosion sounded in the distance. Grinning, she ran off as fast as she could towards the sound.

Vanessa smiles as Lucille leaves, phase one of her... Recruitment, was complete. She then turns and leaves, satisfied, keeping signs of being shook up secret. She knew it was the fact of her being a Catalyst that saved her, this time.

She hears the explosion in the distance, "I wonder if it's the MCF that set it off," she mused. She knew the MCF's dark side, but she had nothing to prove it. She wouldn't put bombing a known Catalyst hang-out above them. She wanted to try and speak against them, but she had plans as well.

She began to think of her next move. Her first thought was, Venus, a persona she'd take up as a cyber informant. She'd provide information she knew and manipulate the Chaos Insurgency to her whim, she also knew of how some places were bombed, key locations of Horizon and the Insurgency, so there must either be a hacker, or an inside man, whatever the case, if she attracted the perpetrator, she could kill two birds with one stone. She muses further, "Connecting dots, what knowledge it brings."

Vanessa returns to her home in Ascension Parish and into her secret room. She sits in front of the monitors, she knew this private supercomputer was secure, she made sure to take measures that could keep even cyber law agencies out of it, fail safes, a private server, and any sort of security software she could obtain, including some custom made softwares that virtually granted her computer invisibility on the internet. Soon she prepared to access the web, planning to email the Chaos Insurgency. She first writes a draft...

"To Whom it may Concern,

I hold a good amount of information that may be vital to your operations. I possess a means of knowing the goings-on of Emperia City, including rumors, definite news, and knowledge compiled from private research, I know that is there to know.

I plan to offer my services to your organization as a cyber informant to maintain confidentiality of my identity. I will provide all I know, but my services are not free. There are some resources that I must obtain, resources vital to Emperia City. On selected resources, I shall designate a secure address where my men shall pick it up.

Notify me via email reply if you wish for my services. To assure you, I don't plan to work for Horizon Foundation. I look forward to an answer.

Venus."

Vanessa then puts the message into an encryption software that the Insurgency should be able to decode, should a third party try to intercept. She then attempts to send the message to an email address affiliated with the Insurgency.

Vanessa happened to be watching James and Eve as they left the building. Vanessa remembered that she had that meeting with Lucille, but it won't be until a few hours later. She was also expecting a reply from the Chaos Insurgency. But right now, she was to try and get some hired guns for her. These two were the perfect fit, businesslike, unpredictable, but precise, she needed those attributes.

She briefly concentrates, then turns her hair to an auburn shade. She happened to be wearing red and black today and brought sunglasses with her. She takes a sheet of paper, wrote a message into it, and folds it into an airplane, she then has a few strands of her hair detach from her scalp and tie themselves onto the plane. She devised this device to carry the message to the duo, with the psychically controlled strands of hair able to manipulate its flight path so that it persistently followed them.

The message itself was to say that Vanessa would become a regular client for them, but it also had a test, it would challenge the two to find one of her associates, or as the message didn't say, Vanessa herself, and notify the associate that they wish to work for her. The message was signed under another name, Artemis.

Vanessa then readies the message and throws it, with the paper airplane being guided by the hair.

As the two mercenaries walked on, both raising their arms to remove the mask, there was a reaction. James quickly stopped in his tracks, lowering his arms as a signal for Eve to do the same. Keeping the masks on their heads. James quickly turned to look behind him, staring off into the distance, looking...

"What is it?" Eve questioned, also attempting to see what James is trying to,
"Unnatural noise." James answered as he quickly moved his arms to catch the paper airplane perfectly, leaving no signs of damage on the paper. James unfolded the airplane carefully, trying not to damage anything, only to speak one thing; "Eve, what's the source?"

Eve looked around, her face making a confused expression under the mask. "I don't know..."
"Don't fuck with me now,"
"No, seriously." She pointed upwards, "The velocity, trajectory, weight, air resistance, gravity, wind speed and direction don't add up. This is not a natural flying plane. It's been controlled."
"Another catalyst?"
"It could be, or perhaps some special trained paper plane thrower." Eve giggled,
"Right." James sighed as he took a few steps forward, listening carefully to the surroundings; "Eve, simulate, quietly."

"Oi, what are you doing, Artemis?" James called out, directing his voice around the area, "We don't take a job without gaining a preliminary payment. And you didn't really explain our job either. It's easier to just come out and talk to us, or else we'll just find you."

Vanessa hears James's remark and simply comes into view, "Impatient, aren't we?" She asks, "So you're interested in my jobs, eh?

Vanessa then takes a small purse from a hiding spot and pulls out 500 dollars in unmarked 10 dollar bills, "This is simply a preliminary payment, I've got more rewards in store," she then holds it out, as if expecting one of them to take it with speed, "And it's more like a series of jobs, I've got goals to attain, goals that I cannot reach on my own."

She then looks to Eve, "Tell me," she begins, "Is blue hair a trend these days?"

James quickly moved his glance towards Artemis, keeping silent as he quickly judged her appearance, taking everything into consideration while also depending on Eve's observation to point out anything of danger;

"We don't deal with any shit that drags on to long, thanks." James stated, placing his hands back into his pockets as he turned his body to face the new contractor, "We take any job in which we can perform."

His glance was quickly pulled by the appearance of a small purse, the contractor had already revealed 500 dollars and held it out, expecting the money to be taken. "I'm pretty sure we're worth more than 500 dollars, it takes a lot to prepare for these jobs you know." James explained, pacing a few steps closer to Artemis as he did so, ignoring the statement of the jobs. There's no point listening to jobs that can't be paid or performed.

As the small conversation took place, Eve managed to work out several scenarios, unable to reach a true conclusion due to the new character's mystery. There was no weapons to be seen, no means of hostility or defense, this girl may be a true contractor, or the police got better.

"I've been born with this hair." Eve replied, her face smiling underneath the already smiling mask, "I'm not sure if there's a trend though," She giggled, her head tilted to the side as she placed her hands behind her back.

"There's plenty at stake," Vanessa added, pulling out an additional 500 dollars, "Dreams to be made, nightmares to create, realities to be broken. That's why I'm asking for your regular employment, what I have planned can't be done in one single job. It's like a surgeon working a scalpel, he must be precise, delicate, cut enough to see what is going on, but not enough to be considered, 'invasive.' That's what these jobs require, and you two have the precision I need. I was once a hunter myself, but those days are gone, but my plans aren't over."

They could both see that she was observing them as well, "Please excuse me, I seem to be rambling on. There's one job I want you to perform, somewhere here in the Crown, there's a minor research lab, at the top levels, there's a guard that begins patrol at 10:50 p.m., I want you to dispose of just that guard at exactly 11:20 p.m. Does that sound like a good offer?"

Dreams, nightmares, realities. Those words were very interesting words, especially in the context they were used. These kind of things is what Whisper wanted in the long run. The reason why they kill even their clients if things were of evil intent. The world has enough corruption in it as is, people being unable to deal with their own problems of evil don't deserve to exist.

"It depends on your plans, we refuse to join any organisation." James replied, he took more steps closer to Artemis, carefully grasping the money held out towards the two as the job was explained more. "This is just a preliminary payment, once the job is complete, we want the rest."

"But why an exact time?" Eve questioned, staring straight into Artemis' eyes as she did so. "I slightly understand the reason of taking this guy out, but I don't understand why we need an exact time to act."

"The reason is simple, obvious once you think about it," Vanessa explains, "I've studied this facility, I know how it functions, all the way down to an individual's heartbeat. The guard I mentioned makes his return to the lower levels at 11:43, then at 11:50, he is to be relieved. Your opportunity arises at 11:18, when he stops to scratch, he probably has hives. As for the organization, you will remain unaffiliated, you're working for me, not them. As for your reward, expect the money by midnight. Now... For Emperia City?"

James stood on the spot, holding the money in one hand with the other still in his pocket. This pocketed hand quickly raised up and pointed towards Artemis, the fingers moved into a gun shape, "Bang..." Was the only word James spoke, leaving the surrounding area silent for a moment, nothing happened.
"...This is how easy it would be to take you out. You should be more defensive, cautious. Or not, I don't care."

Eve stayed quiet as she watched the conversation from a few steps back, "This girl is observant," She thought, "With the ability to find exact times, this kind of observation can be considered superior. But then again, it depends."

"This girl, she has something to hide..."
