Setting
The main door opened, allowing the two mercenaries to enter. James, a bit out of breath quickly slumped down on the sofa with a sigh, pushing his medium length brown hair back to allow his heterochromic eyes to be easily seen. His green eye seemed to glow a little in the dark room, as if it was filled with energy as a side effect of becoming a catalyst. The other was grey, seemingly black in the lack of light, a boring colour for someone who seemed to be a boring person. Perhaps that's why he covers the green eye, to seem boring, to hide easily.
Eve, on the other hand, stood out like a sore thumb. Her bright blue hair was easily distinguished in the dark room, along with her blue eyes doing the same, their colour was amplified more by the black eyeliner in which she wore. Before heading to the kitchen to prepare some tea, Eve flicked the light switch, allowing the room to become illuminated by the single flickering lightbulb which hung freely from the center of the ceiling.
"So, tomorrow we need to meet our contractor to gain the rest of our payment." James stated, lowering his hand to rest on his leg; allowing his hair to fall back down into it's natural style.
"Yeah, it should be quick and simple unless that guy decides to bring the police with him like last time." Eve replied, speaking a bit louder over the noise of the kettle.
"He didn't seem like the guy to do that, just another spineless corporation worker trying to get rid of a higher because they treated him like shit."
"Our target was also a corrupt bastard who cheated the populace and skipped taxes. It was a good thing to give him an early retirement."
James nodded in agreement, too tired to reply. Or maybe he simply couldn't be bothered.
"By the way." Eve continued as she carried over two cups of tea. Placing one on the cluttered coffee table in front of James and the other beside it before sitting down on the same sofa. "Why did we leave so early?"
James placed his mask on the table behind his tea, quickly causing Eve to do the same after placing her sword on the floor, resting against the side of the sofa. "The way to explained the escape route seemed like we had to leave immediately."
"No, I was just giving you the plan. I wanted to stay back and observe more. That bulky guy seemed interesting."
"He sounded interesting as well. What about Craven?"
"He was even more interesting, I wanna know why he held that head close, like he was celebrating or boasting."
"I suspect mental instability."
"Mental instability or not, there's no way he could murder so many people so brutally without having a single scratch."
"He's a catalyst. That's all."
"I didn't observe any weapons, perhaps he's like you."
"Like me?"
"He could use his body as a weapon, his skill amplified by his ability."
James thought for a moment, only to nod as he took a sip from his tea.
"What do you think about the bulky guy then? He's also a catalyst." Eve continued the conversation,
"He is?"
"When he attacked me because I was blocking his way. There were some red tendril things fired out at me, they were breakable, but were still tough."
James thought some more, humming a little as he worked his brain; "Then why carry a weapon?"
"From what I observed, the bulky guy is well trained and disciplined. He could be a member of Horizon or the Insurgency."
"He's from Horizon."
Eve quickly sat forward and turned her head towards James, her face filled with confusion, "How did you work that out?"
"It's simple. Both Horizon and the Insurgency are aware of my existence, only the Insurgency is aware of yours. However, only the Insurgency know our styles and our masks. He didn't recognize us because we were wearing masks, so he must be from Horizon."
"That still doesn't make sense, he could be a new member to the insurgency."
"Remember when we randomly disappeared from the insurgency? I doubt they would let that slide without any investigation."
"That still doesn't explain anything..."
"'Here's a picture of their faces and their masks. When you're out on a mission or on time off, please keep an eye out for them.' Or something like that."
"Oh. I see..."
The two sat back in silence for a moment, drinking their tea slowly, silently enjoying their time before James' words finally broke the silence once more;
"I have a feeling we'll meet those two again."
