a character in “The Chronicles of Meiran”, as played by Firewind

Description

Name: Locien Kestal

Age: 125 (Appears to be 20 years old)

Gender: Male

Race: Dark Elf

Appearance: Image

Description: Standing at 5"11, Locien usually wears dark clothing he identifies with plus the small Tribal symbols of his clan taught to him by His Foster Father. Unlike most Dark Elves, his eyes are close to violet Blue and his Silver hair is long and goes past his shoulders, He prefers to wear it in a Ponytail. His Skin is close to Onyx black in its darkened Color.

Equipment: His 125th birthday was recently, and as that is close to manhood, He was given his first Sword, with a Clan emblem on it signifying where he came from. He also wears an amulet that was with him since he was a Child, with the symbol of the Elven Creator God. He is also given a strange dwarven crossbow that is held by only one hand.

Abilities: He is a skilled swordsman, being trained in his youth to wield a sword by the Elven Mage Ildhrenion, his Foster Father. He doesn't have too much knowledge in magic, yet his Amulet allows him to tap into his inner rage and temporarily increase his strength. However, this boost also has him fighting indiscriminately as his anger completely takes over him. His ranged weapon skills aren't as good as his swordsmanship.

Likes: Wolves, Icefire Brew (popular Elven Beverage on both sides of the Elven spectrum), Sword Crafting, Fighting.

Dislikes: Killing, Prejudice, Darkness, Demons, mistreatment of others.

Personality: Locien has a thirst to know more of the world beyond Kreanor, his home kingdom. He also is a fighter by nature, with a desire to fight anything who'd first make him angry. Being a dark elf in an Elven Kingdom usually was met by some as a bad omen or to the lesser minded folk, severe prejudice, and Locien always felt a twinge of anger and frustration from it. Also a string of sadness, as to feeling like he never really belonged with the elves and wanting to find his own kind, or at least, someone with acceptance in their hearts of him. However, he holds a love for any friends and the only family he has.

History: Not Much is known about his birth, or his biological family. Ildhrenion had stated that His birth family was once a renowned Clan of Dark elves from the northeast, where the beginning of a structure of a society for dark elves was forming. However, it would seem that he was either illegitimate or Orphaned during a raid from said clan in Kreanor, and Ildhrenion found him amidst the ruins as a Baby, holding a bloodied amulet of his clan.

Ildhrenion discussed with the Ruler of Kreanor of what is to be done about the young child, and eventually the decision was made that the child would stay in Kreanor to be raised by Ildhrenion in the ways of the Elven and Dark Elven ways. So it was done.

Other: Locien has decorated his right arm and shoulder with White Tattoos of both Dark Elven and Elven Symbols.

The Tale Begins...

The Hut of Ildhrenion Galadiir was quiet, as quiet as could be. The only thing that would account to as noise, would be the hammering and clanging of Metal in the forge behind the hut. Ildhrenion Himself, was at a chair near the front door reading a book from his vast collection of Lore of the History of the World. He himself had written a some volumes of his own findings, back when he was young and able to fight off a hundred enemies.

He was lost in his own little world in his reading, when there was a knock at the door. "Hm? Visitors at this hour?" He muttered to himself as he got up and grabbed his staff, which had been with him since the beginning of his travels and adventure and was ever a good walking stick, and walked to the door. He opened it and said, "Yes, What can I do for-"

"Ildhrenion Galadiir?" A Young elf covering his face and hood over his head. "My Name is Cildur Killiran, these are my sisters, Helena and Thalia. May we come in? We need some, assistance."

"You are welcome for tea Young Man, and please don't be formal around me, I'm an old man, after all." He said as he lead his guests to the main living area and walked to a Kettle and started to stoke a fire. "I know who you three are and why you've come, I assume. However, I want details. I can only counsel not indirectly help." He said as he sat on his chair.

"You live here alone then?" Cildur and Helena asked almost at the same time and looked at each other in slight shock of that and laughed with a small relief.

"Oh no, my Foster Son lives with me, you may have heard of him, The Drow of Kreanor, they call him now. Just don't tell him that. I'll send for him so I don't have to get up to get the kettle when it's ready." Ildhrenion said with a smile

---

At the forge was his Foster Son, Locien Kestal, being given the name by Ildhrenion at his discovery, he was busy hammering away at the forge, crafting a new sword for the Kreanor army, for an order of fifty swords to be filled. He had just quenched the flame when he heard the bell to come inside the house. "Foster Father has guests." Locien said to himself as he put the blade away and started to walk back to the house.

He was shirtless, so therefore his White Tattoos on his arm shown in bright contrast to his onyx-like skin. He walked into the house and to the main area of the house whilst grabbing and putting on a short sleeved grey tunic.

"Ah, Locien, there you are, I'd like you to meet the Kiliran Siblings, Cildur, Helena, and Thalia. Everyone, Locien Kestal." His Foster father stated.

"How do you do?" Locien asked.

When Thalia saw the Hut of Ildhrenion Galadiir she was relieved. She had not been sure how much further she could have gone with walking in pretty much silence. Physically she was fine, but mentally her mind was going everywhere. She couldn’t help, but just think about what had happen to her family, especially her parents. At the though of her parents she felt her heart tighten and she pushed the thought away. The last thing she wanted to do was start crying, showing her brother and sister she wasn’t as okay as she seem to be.

Her eyes filled with slight curiosity when she heard the noise. Was it the Old Elven Mage hammering and clanging away? As she thought about who was in the forge she followed slightly behind her siblings. She knew it would be bad if she accidently shocked them with her touch. Thalia was agitated and felt as the electricity of lightening on her skin. Sure it was normal to shock people naturally, but she wasn’t sure how much the shock would hurt. Thalia also knew if they touched her again she would shock them again in the state she was in.

Once the door opened she observed the man who opened it and how her brother and he interacted. Cildur, always the leader, but that would be expected of the fut-, of the King. She gave Ildhrenion a friendly smile as she entered the hut. She listened carefully as they spoke. While they spoke and she listened she looked around the inside of the hut taking in the details around her. When she heard her siblings laugh a happy smile graced her lips. She was glad they could laugh at their actions. A few seconds later, she seemed to have gone into a daydream when really she was just in her thoughts.

I think Helena did mention to me one day that a Mage in Kreanor had a Foster Son that was a Drow. It is odd he fostered a Drow…I wonder how that situation came to be. She was pulled out of her thoughts when she saw the male walk into the house out of the corner of her eye. Thalia turned her gaze quickly, but full on the White Tattoos that adored his arm. She couldn’t help, but gaze down at her own tattoo afterwards. Thalia wore a sleeveless sky blue top that showed the top of her shoulders/back and a short skirt, which had flower shaped sliver metal decorating it and also keeping it in place. Her earrings were simple round sliver hoops on each ear. On her feet she wore short black leather boots.

“We are doing well considering our situation. I am Thalia and those are my older siblings Helena and Cildur. How are you doing on this day? Also, I am curious, what were you making in the forge?” she replied with a kind smile, her voice naturally soft and sweet. She knew it’d be best to say her name as it was obvious who Cildur was as he was the only male. The Drow would have had to end up guessing on which female was Thalia and which was Helena. She glanced at her sister and smiled. Thalia could tell Helena was going to wait for the Drow to answer before she explained to Ildhrenion what had happened to their kingdom.

"Um, swords Ma'am. A Kreanor military order. I sell them, I get money, simple as that." Locien said in the short, succinct answer. He noted a tattoo on the one called Thalia's stomach but didn't say anything about it.

"Sounds tedious. Lot more strenuous then reading." Helena replied. She turned to Ildhrenion. "So you know why we are here, but want more facts. Very well, the attackers were of Orcs, Goblins, and such dark foul things. They came in the night, pulled off a surprise attack on our home and family and dethroned our family. Gave it to Lord Castien of the house of Taval."

"A traitor I deem him now." Cildur stated sourly as he leaned back in slight impatience. "You don't have to say the rest Helena. He'll probably guess what happened next."

"My my that's a bit hasty, if you're going to be King you have to maintain patience." Ildhrenion stated. "The fact You said both Orcs and goblins has me both intrigued and worried. I'll have to look into that. Oh dear the kettle, Locien, fix everyone a cup of Silverleaf Tea, and don't put a spoonful of Icefire in your cup, I don't want you accidentally hurting yourself later when you go test those blades of yours as far as sharpness goes."

Locien sighed as he went to so as Ildhrenion got up and searched for several books. "Let me see...."

Locien took the kettle and prepared five cups of tea and stayed silent as he felt like someone was going to ask him the question he had a hard time answering.

"So, how does someone as Reputed as you Master Galadiir, Foster a Dark Elf?" Cildur asked in slight curiosity. Locien shook his head as he served the tea to the guests.

"Found him as a Baby on a battlefield, you could say he was either Battle-born or no. But where he was at was no place for a child. I was starting to feel the grip of old age so I, with permission, took him in. Rest is history." Ildhrenion stated as he sat down with several books, "Cildur, Helena, stay and help me a moment with narrowing down the type and look of these Orcs and goblins, Locien, why don't you take Thalia outside a moment, she looks like she needs some air."

He’s polite, she mused before she looked at Helena and smiled at her comment. When she started talking about what happened the corners of Thalia's lips twitched. She wrapped her arms around her waist as she listened, but didn’t at the same time as Helena spoke. The memories tried to resurface, but she took a deep breath and buried them. I can think later...when everyone is asleep and there goes Cildur, impatience as ever… Thalia lightly brushed her sides with her fingertips for something to do.

She glanced at Locien when he sighed. It was amusing and reminded her of something a child would do. As Ildhrenion searched among his books she noticed her sister watched with interest and curiosity. She must be dying to want to read all of these books she see. I won’t be surprised if by the end of the day she has her nose in one. Thalia observed when Locien shook his head. She took her right arm from around her waist and carefully took the teacup from him. Thalia made sure there was no chance she would touch him. He must not like the question Cildur asked. Cildur should be more careful about what he says, even if he thinks it will mean no harm.

As she listened to Ildhrenion’s answer she took a sip of the steaming tea. The warmth of the tea running down her throat and throughout her chest calmed her a little. Ildhrenion's answer caused curiosity and questions with likely no answer about Locien to fill her mind. When Ildhrenion spoke again, she glanced at him, Thalia noticed he had not said her name after Helena's. Although she just took another sip of her tea when she heard Ildhrenion tell Locien to take her outside. I could have helped narrow down some of the creatures, but oh well. I guess I really need to try to relax if Ildhrenion thinks I need some air; that is bad. I do not want my siblings to worry even though they probably will either way. I do not even want to leave my siblings alone, but they will be fine...I will just be outside. I will just stay near in case anything happens. Thalia removed her other arm from around her waist to hold the teacup with both hands. She watched, as Helena was the first to grab a book to look through. That was no surprise. Seconds later Thalia glanced at Locien and smiled.

“Come, you can show me the swords you made in the forge if you like,” she stated before she paused to look at her siblings. “Stay safe and remember not to leave each others sides. I will be near if anything,” she told them before she left the hut. Thalia had noticed her sister roll her eyes, but she ignored that. Thalia walked a few feet away from the hut and licked a drop of tea off her lips. Thalia took in a deep breath of fresh air as she waited for Locien to exit the hut. She forced herself to smile at the sky and clouds.

Once he was outside she would start to walk slowly to the forge. When they neared the forge she would clear her throat softly and say, “Sorry about my brother, I think he speaks at times without thinking, but he means no harm. Did the question he ask irritate you?” Thalia would rather at the moment start talking than be left to think in silence if he did not speak. She would take another sip of the tea as she waited for an answer. Her fingers would slightly tighten around the teacup. Then she would look up into Locien's eyes out of habit.

Locien shrugged as he walked out to the forge, hoping the young elf would follow him. Cildur looked slightly annoyed at Ildhrenion's suggestion but maybe he noticed at the same time he did the slight distress going on in Thalia's Mind. Helena however, took a book and pried it open and flipped though the pages. She was on a mission to look through the books Ildhrenion had and wouldn't stop until she did.

In the meantime Locien walked into the forge and wrapped up his order and then walked to an outside work table. "Here's where I test their sharpness." Locien said. "Sorry you cannot go directly inside the forge. It's just hit in there." He then unwrapped the swords and took one off the pile and checked the cooled steel. With a wandering eye he grabbed thick log, set it on a tree stump, and got into a stance.

He swung the sword, cleaving the log into two pieces. "Good and sharp. More then likely to cleave the bone off a rogue troll any day of the week." Locien stated out loud nearly forgetting he wasn't alone as he wiped sweat from his forehead. He then reached under his tunic and pulled out an amulet from underneath it. It was a strange dark elvish amulet, for whilst it had the tell tale signs of Drow markings, the symbol was entirely of a member of the Elven Pantheon, Corellon the Creator and Protector of Elven kind.

Locien kissed the amulet, "Here's to the next blade." He stated as he took another blade and then swung again. He repeated this pattern for several minutes until the bell on the forge door rang. "Foster Father is ready for you now. I think he wanted you to clear your head so you can make sure you're siblings are positive in their identification, umm Your highness." He had noted throughout both in and outside the house, she was quiet on the particular subject. "Though I find identifying people better then watching someone like me testing swords. As for your earlier question, no. Your brother did not irritate me. It was a question that had to be knocked into the open to newcomers. As usual. Everyone always wonders how a Drow came to be in Kreanor."

As Thalia waited for Locien to exit the forge she lightly touched the metal on her clothing and each of her earrings. She allowed the lightening to leave her skin and conduct itself into the metal. Thalia did this quickly and discreetly. After she felt relaxed, she felt even better once she finished her tea. She slowly licked her lips and held the teacup in one hand. When Locien appeared again she followed and stood just a foot or so away from the table.

Her fingers ran through her long hair as he spoke. She noticed she hadn’t done her two braids today. “It’s fine, I can understand, maybe another time I could go inside to see what it looks like,” she said with a smile. Thalia stayed silent as she watched him work. She eyed the amulet with curiosity. Interesting, I wonder where he got that from and what it does. Watching him test the swords wasn’t boring, but it was not that entertaining either. Locien didn’t seem like much of a talker so she decided not to make him talk. Though all she wanted was to talk even if it was about nonsense, but that wasn’t even like herself at all.

She glanced up at Locien when he spoke again. Thalia laughed and smiled. “My head was clear for me to make sure of my siblings identifications then. Oh and please call me Thalia if it is not too much trouble. There is no need to be so formal with me as I would actually prefer if you didn’t call me Ma’am or Your highness, but if you still wish to you can,” she said, still smiling. She slowly started walking back to the hut before she turned to speak again. Thalia stayed quiet as she looked at Locien for a few seconds.

“Watching you test swords was fine, maybe next time you will let me test one...I am glad Cildur's question didn’t irritate you and well people can be considerate enough not to ask the question even if they are curious. I think it would bother me if people always asked how I came to be someplace, they can just let it be,” she said before she turned back around and entered the hut.

Once inside she waved to everyone and gave each of her siblings a kiss on the cheek before she looked at the creatures they had identified. She quickly looked at it over twice before she looked at Ildhrenion.

“They have identified all of the creatures except two, give me one second to look,” she paused as she opened another book and flipped threw it. She placed a finger in it to hold her place. Next she used her free hand to flip threw a few pages of an already open book. “Well there were some of theses little troll looking creatures and then…” she paused again as she opened the other book to where her finger had been. On the page she pointed to a picture of a tall white demonic creature with what looked to have antlers on its head. She turned the book to face Ildhrenion, “Then there was this one that I saw once when I woke to it in my room. It looks like some type of demon to me.”

After she finished speaking she leaned against a wall with her ankles crossed. She purposely looked up at the ceiling to avoid her sibling’s gazes. Thalia never mentioned to them that she woke up to a creature in her room. It had gone to attack her, but she struck the floor in front of it with lightening, which seemed to stun the creature before she ran out of her room. She had planned to warn everyone about it, but that was when she noticed all hell was already breaking loose, that they were under attack.

Ildhrenion nodded at the trolls. "Hm, Southern Cave Trolls. Fits with the time of the raid. They are nocturnal mostly." Ildhrenion stated as he gave a once over of them. "They were small because those were only Juvenile ones. When I visited the great deserts Southwest, I saw one no bigger then a house."

"Must be easy to find and enlist juvenile ones to this army." Cildur commented. When Thalia showed Ildhrenion the White antlered Creature however, Ildhrenion paled visibly. He looked at Thalia and then at the demon then back again to her.

"Foster Father? Is everything alright? Your hand...it's shaking, don't clench it, you'll break your staff!" Locien said as he used his strength to pull the treasured staff out of Ildhrenion's hand and pulled up a chair and had him sit. "I'll fix another cup of tea. Alright? Just, don't scare me like that..."

"Oh Locien, forgive my sudden fright. This new revelation, puts their lives, amongst other things in grave peril." Ildhrenion whispered to him before turning to Cildur and Helena. "This is worse then I thought. Who was Castien confiding to, beyond the people of court?"

"A Man, in black, I couldn't see his face." Answered Cildur. "Didn't think it was important."

"Because what Thalia encountered is one of the servants of an ancient enemy, whose name I shall not utter here. But I know this, it may not stop at your kingdom once this army manages to place a foothold on your land." Ildhrenion stated. "If you are certain to continue what I assume you wish to do next, you must know that you must reestablish your allies in several Elven, Human, and Dwarf Kingdoms. You'll need their help."

"You mean you won't come with us?" Helena said with a hint of dismay.

"Now now, If I was as young as I once was in the great Civil War of Kreanor, I'd have started packing immediately. However, I can do several things." Ildhrenion stated. "Locien, how many Swords have you made today besides the order because I know you like to make more then the quota asked for."

"Uhhm, I made at least, ten more then required for this order. Why Foster Father?" Locien asked.

"Get one for each of the sisters." Locien turned to leave the room. "And then, pack your things."

"I thout you said you weren't going." Cildur said with a raised eyebrow.

"You misheard Crown Prince Cildur, I didn't tell him to pack my things." Ildhrenion replied as Locien slowly understood the meaning before running out the door to fetch the two blades.

Locien returned moments later and placed them on the table before heading up some stairs to do the next task.

Thalia met Ildhrenion gaze when he began to speak. When he looked at her and then the demon and then her again she got nervous. A smile graced her lips as she held in a nervous laugh. Though it was usual for her to want to laugh when nervous, Ildhrenion’s reaction honestly scared her. She was going to question him about the reaction, but then Locien spoke.

She distracted herself by watching Locien worry about his Foster Father. At least I was not the only one to become scared. When Ildhrenion spoke again she was relieved, but only a little because what he said wasn’t good at all. Why was the creature in my room? I should have killed it, now it knows of my mastery of Lightening, but I am not a killer...I've never killed in my life, almost did once, but that was an accident. I do not want to have to kill anything...let me not think about that for now, at least I know I can help to reestablish allies...

As she though she watched everyone’s reaction to what he said. Thalia kept a blank expression on her own face. Although her eyes did widen with Helena’s when Ildhrenion told Locien to get each one of them a sword. They looked at each other before their gazes were back on Ildhrenion again. Wait, he told Locien to pack his bags? Is he going to have him accompany us? She looked at Cildur when it was obvious he misunderstood what the Mage had said.

“Cildur, he is going to have Locien accompany us I believe,” Helena said. Helena then turned her steady gaze to Ildhrenion. “What will you be doing while we are reestablishing our allies?” she questioned.

Thalia looked at both swords and picked each one up in each hand. After assessing the weight of each one she handed the lighter sword to her sister. It is better for her to have the lightest one, she isn't that strong in the first place. She will need to do some training. Though, she will have more luck than me with learning how to use a sword, she does use a dagger as a weapon. I have seen others use swords, but watching is much easier than using one. I will also need to make something so I can keep it on my person at all times. She looked at the sword in her hand once more before she carefully crossed her arms with it in her right hand.

"I cannot be of much help, except at Kreanor's Throne room, with our fair Ruler, I am old and cannot be involved in direct action." Ildhrenion stated. "As much as I wish to help aid you, I cannot. So I give you the next best thing. Locien is a swordsman and a slight marksman, and he knows where to possibly go first to begin allying with several nations. But it'll be dangerous."

Cildur sighed in slight exasperation. He didn't like that kind of development, but this journey was never going to be easy. He knew this. He just felt unprepared for it all. Save for the part where Ildhrenion was not going to help them. He was forewarned of the possibility. "Understood."

"You are however free to spend the night to rest yourselves. You have a long journey tomorrow."

---

Later that Night Locien was outside the hut making the sheaths for his order and Helena and Thalia's Blades. He was just about finished when he began musing over the situation. He was finally going on an adventure. Yet he was nervous. He sat on the front porch of the only home he knew. This very hut. "Guess now is the time to probably figure it all out...who I really am," he said to himself as he gazed at his amulet. "And where I came from Truly."

When Thalia was sure her siblings were asleep she decided she would leave the hut for a while. She probably should have been asleep too, but it didn't seem like a pleasant idea to her. What if she woke up again and they were under attack? A soft sigh escaped her lips as she walked through the hut's main area, grabbed her sword she had leaned next to the door earlier, and exited the hut.

She jumped a bit. Thalia was surprised to see Locien sitting on the porch. He was just sitting there looking at his amulet. Should I speak or should I just walk by and pretend I didn't see him? Seconds later Thalia finally decided it would be best if she spoke. She walked up to him and took a seat beside him. Thalia placed her sword on her lap she looked up at Locien.

"Hello Locien, I would say you should be asleep, but I am also awake. Are your thoughts keeping you up? " she asked. Her eyes looked over his amulet slowly as she took in its details.

Locien looked at Thalia in slight curiosity and followed her eyes to his amulet. "I'm about to leave the only home I've ever known for the first time. So yes, you could say, there is a lot on my mind." He said as he took a sheathe in one hand and slowly pushed it into the blade in Thalia's possession. "It's an opportunity for me however. I might find out many things about the world, and myself in the way by helping you."

Locien then turned his amulet sideways so she could see the Markings better. "Do you like it? A Drow Amulet, depicting the Elven God Corellon, Creator and protector of Elven Kind. Legend says any who wear his mark are meant for great potential. When Foster Father found me, as a small child, he found me crying, and clutching this very amulet with one tiny hand. Then, when I was old enough to wear it, it has never left where it is." Locien swallowed a bit after speaking. "Anyhow, what keeps you from your slumber prin-ummm Thalia? You can tell me. I can keep a secret."

Thalia nodded when he spoke and watched as he covered her blade. She gave him a smile to thank him before she listened as he continued to speak. Thalia looked at the amulet once more before she looked at him. She wrapped her arms around her waist.

“Yes, I do like your Drow Amulet, it is very intriguing. That is interesting and well I am even gladder now that you will be accompanying us then. Great potential is always good, you just need to know how to use it. I wonder how you came to get the amulet and it is a wonder how you came to be and survive on a battlefield,” she told him. She thought about his question and then looked down at her boots. Thalia allowed some of her hair to fall forward to cover her face. She nibbled on her bottom lip.

“Well, many things are keeping me up. I feel if I fall asleep I will wake up to the hut being under attack and death again. I am a heavy sleeper. I think I only awoke when we were under attack because I usually wake up around that time to take a walk,” she paused as she took in a deep breath, “Also I know I will think about my parents and what happened if I sleep and that is still hard to do. I’d rather not wake up with puffy eyes and worry my siblings. I still can’t believe my parents are dead. It doesn’t seem real. I could also have nightmares since everything is still fresh in my mind.” She took a deep breath and suddenly stood up with her blade.

“Anyways I did come out here to practice how to use this sword since sleep is not an option right now. Though you should get some sleep before tomorrow. Also do not worry about me as I will do fine with no sleep for a while. Have a good night,” she told him. She blinked a few times as she felt tears threaten to spill. Then she began to quickly walk towards the woods nearest her.

Locien merely nodded in response to her good night bidding and walked to the house and into his room. He had already prepared his travel bags and was almost certain that his order to the Kreanor army will be well prepared for as well. He looked around for some of his personal weaponry. He slowly found his handheld crossbow first. He held it in one and and checked to make sure he had a good stock of ammunition well prepared for if the need arose.

Setting that aside he turned to the other component he was well ready to grasp. His sword, beautifully crafted by his hand. It was a Hand and a Half Longsword, on one side of the blade marked his Last Name, whilst in the other side he etched a phrase for the name to help him with a title until he thought of a suitable name. He etched the elvish word for Evil's Bane. Locien smiled and sheathed the weapon and went to bed.

-----

The next morning everyone was preparing to go, whilst Ildhrenion was making sure Locien was well prepared for the journey. "I know you don't have armor yet, but I hope eventually in one of your stops you shall craft some for yourself. Be brave Locien, and don't let anything stop you from protecting these siblings. If any of you wish for my advice, take these." Ildhrenion stated as he gave Locien a box that had four unique rings.

"Telepathy rings??" Locien asked and Ildhrenion only nodded his head. "Thank you Foster Father."

"All I ask in return is that you come back in one piece and tell me all about it so that we can make a chronicle of it to add to the histories." Ildhrenion stated and patted his shoulder, signaling him to go with the group.

Locien walked towards the three siblings, looking prepared for the trip. "I'm ready." He stated.

Cildur eyed him for a moment and nodded. "Right. First we must make our way to the next kingdom, north from our current position. When we figure that out, it's all up to fate what happens next for us."

With that the group started on the road.

Once Thalia had finished practicing she laid on the grass for the morning. At sunrise she started to get prepared to go. When she had finished she waited outside for her siblings and Locien to get ready to go. She watched as Ildhrenion and Locien spoke as her siblings and her were waiting for only Locien now.

She stood once Locien joined them and wiped grass off of herself. As she listened to her brother she patted herself down to make sure she had everything. When they entered the dense forest Thalia stayed at back of the group. She looked at the plants here and there and plucked some as they walked. Though as they walked through the forest Thalia also kept looking around. Thalia knew this forest wasn’t safe, it had quite the reputation for being filled with thieves, evil creatures and who knows what else.

The group was on the road for several hours now, Cildur was in the front of the group, leading the way towards the next kingdom. Helena was looking at a map, making sure Cildur was not leading them astray. Locien stuck close to Thalia, trying to keep an eye on her. It was one of Ildhrenion's instructions, for he had a suspicion as per how she narrowly avoided the demon she encountered in her room.

Locien himself was all curious about it too. But he kept his mouth quiet. He looked around the forest making sure nothing was nearby, opening his eyes and ears to the woods. He heard several forms of life scurrying around. He smiled as a bird flew by him. Several moments later Cildur signaled for a stop, and Locien nearly ran into Thalia if he didn't snap a twig to snap him out of it.

"What now??" He said as he stopped.

"I don't know, But we aren't alone." Cildur replied. Locien drew his sword and looked around. "Locien, try and stick close to my sisters, anything could happen. Keep walking."

Locien silently complied as he listened. He heard their footsteps, but heard another set following them, but he couldn't place it. It was a person by the stepping. Possibly a Ranger of the woods, or a sell sword. Locien kept his eye out for this person in case he decided to show himself.

Thalia had become bored as they just walked. She collected certain flowers of many colors and she was careful as she folded the stems together. She made the flowers into a sash. Thalia slid the sash on her right shoulder as it lay across her chest. As they walked she noticed Locien was staying close to her, but brushed the thought away. She decided she would ask later if she found the need to.

She immediately stopped as Cildur signaled. Though Thalia put her hands behind her as she thought Locien was going to run into her. When he didn’t she moved her hand from behind herself. She listened to what her brother said and slid her hands into the secret pockets of her skirt. Thalia tapped the darts, which were strapped to her upper thighs.

Thalia selected three darts between her fingers in each hand. She looked at Locien and walked more closely to him. “Stay closer to Helena, I will be fine,” she whispered for only him to hear. A few seconds later, Thalia walked a little slower as she did her best to place where the person who was following them was.

Honestly she did not like to be followed and just wait for something, most likely bad to happen. Who knows what kind of weapons these people had? They could have arrows. Once she sensed the area where the person following them mainly was, she turned quickly around. Thalia threw all six darts knowing at least one would harm the person or at least make them move and end up showing themselves.

There was a sharp movement as the Ranger leapt out of the way of the darts and angrily drew his sword and charged at the group, before Cildur or Helena could try to react Locien was already reacting by blocking his first blow and proceeding to duel with him. Cildur looked at Thalia. "Don't throw any more darts you might hit Locien." He said in a fashion.

The ranger swung at Locien and Locien blocked and vice versa. A minute passed, then two, then four and so on. Until finally the Ranger made one move too widely and Locien delivered a swift kick to the man's groin and sent him to the ground as he pointed his blade at his throat. He looked at the man very carefully with deadly looking eyes. "Who sent you and why sell sword? Maybe I'll let you live."

"Look, you guys were making a ruckus, I wanted to know what you were doing traveling, and also you yourself Drow." The Ranger replied, "Okay maybe that was a bit off beat but where you're going is a slight wolves' trap. That kingdom has enough political turmoil to eat you."

"We need to go there. We need allies to fight an ancient threat." Helena stated.

"Ancient? Threat? Sounds like a fun adventure lass. But that kingdom isn't a smart idea to start but no worries. I'll help you avoid the stuff if one of you lasses give me a ki-OW!" Locien had interrupted him by kicking his shin.

"You're welcome to join us Ranger, but do not fraternize with the women. What's your name?"

"Marek." The Ranger replied.

"Well Marek, your interruption has delayed us by an hour and it's almost sunset. We need to make camp for the night. Why don't you gather wood?" Cildur stated to the newest member of the group. Marek walked off to gather firewood for a fire as Locien shrugged as he walked to find a good spot.

Thalia smiled when the man was forced to reveal himself. She looked at her brother with a bit of annoyance, but stayed silent as she turned her head to watch Locien and the stranger fight. Does Cildur think I am a fool? I wasn’t going to throw anymore darts as I know I may accidentally hurt Locien. She listened to the stranger speak and looked him over. He looked human. Thalia was amused by the man’s proposal, which was cut off by Locien. He should have really though before he spoke, but it was funny. When the stranger walked off the get wood she looked at the rest of the group.

“I am going to fetch my darts, be safe. Just call out if you need me,” she spoke before she quickly left them. She knew the direction most of her darts went so she knew she would find them quickly. Hopefully I find them all before sunset…if not it will be even more fun to look for them. Thalia hummed softly as she began to get each of her darts. The first one she had to pull out from a tree. She held the darts she found in her left hand. The darts were of a strong bright sliver metal. She made sure to be aware of her surroundings as she looked. After a while she began to dance as she found more of her darts. She still hummed her little somewhat sad tune.

Once she had all six darts she had decided to lean against a tree to watch the sunset. As she waited for the sun to set she wiped her darts clean as best she could with her fingers. She wiped what came off on a leaf of a flower bush close to her.

Locien had found the perfect camp site as Marek the Ranger had begun to work on the campfire as the two siblings worked on the tents. He decided to walk towards a nearby river and fish with his hands. He had done it several times before and there was nothing major to worry about. He would do what he liked and that was perfectly fine and normal for him.

It was then Locien heard the slight growls. He looked up from the river to see a frightening surprise. He felt like running, or holding his ground, because right across from him drinking from the river was a large Black Wolf. It gave Locien a warning growl before continuing to drink. Locien could barely move but stayed where he was. He then felt fish swim to his hand as he gripped one and hit one with a rock and toss it to the side and did the same thing several more times. The Wolf watched with small amusement in its eyes.

When he was finished, the Wolf growled at him once more, it's eyes lingering on one of the fish. The biggest and fattest one he caught. "Maybe he'll go away once giving it to him." he thought and he tossed it to the wolf who snatched it and left the river in a happy mood.

Sighing Locien returned to the campsite. "Ranger I hope you know how to cook." Marek only nodded as he took Locien's catch and proceeded to cook the fish.

"Why are you guys out here may I ask?" Marek asked as he cooked.

Once the sunset Thalia pushed herself off the tree and walked back to camp. On her way to came she saw bunches of white grapes. After she made sure the grapes were safe to eat she took off a few bunches. Next she quickly washed them and headed back to camp as she heard a wolf howl. As she entered the camp she heard Marek ask his question. She moved her hair over her right shoulder before she sat down besides him.

"Well we have to come through this forest as we need to get to the next kingdom. We need allies to fight an ancient threat because if it takes gets hold of our kingdom it won't be likely to stop there. What are you doing out here Marek?" she stated. Then she stood up and handed everyone a bunch of grapes before she took her seat again. Thalia plucked a grape off her own bunch and ate it.

"I'm just a humble traveller by nature. With no real goals other then staying alive and winning fights and finding the perfect woman." Marek said the last part with a small smirk as both Cildur and Locien roll their eyes. "Although I'm more surprised of the fact you three allow a Drow in your party."

"Oh great, a biased ranger." Locien thought as he kept a perfectly straight face as Marek finished cooking the fish whilst Locien himself ate from the grapes. He paused as he slowly ate another grape. "An ingredient to Icefire Brew??!" He thought insude his head as he proceeded to eat more grapes.

"Be a bit nice Marek. That Drow is Locien Kestal of Kreanor. He's a friend." Helena stated as she read from a book. Locien meanwhile opened the box and gave Helena, Cildur and Thalia three of the four rings Ildhrenion gave them.

"Put these on, it'll allow us to stay in communication with each other." Locien stated as he took the fourth ring, which had an emerald gem along with some of the same markings of his amulet, obviously from Ildhrenion's work to make it cohesive, and set it on one of his fingers. Marek proceeded to serve the fish Locien caught,

A few minutes later, Locien tossed the bones of the fish into the fire. Satisfied with his meal He went to claim a tent, and he sat in meditation, trying to keep an eye on his group. Especially the one he was ordered to watch, Thalia.

Thalia laughed softly at the last part of what he said and his smirk as she watched Cildur and Locien roll their eyes. She ate another grape as Helena stood up for Locien. When Thalia was given the ring she slid it onto the middle finger of her left hand.

“Thank you and good to know,” she said softly before she took her fish. She slowly ate the fish as she looked up at the stars. When she finished she placed the fish bones in the fire. She ate a few more grapes before she finally felt satisfied. Thalia saved the rest of her grapes. She stood and smoothed out her skirt.

Next she walked over to the closet river and washed her hands with the darts she still had out. After she dried her hands and the darts she slid her hands into her pockets once again. She discreetly put her darts back where they belonged before she returned to the campsite. She went and sat next to Locien.

“How did you learn to fight with a sword?” she asked.

Locien's eyes looked at her in slight surprise when she sat next to him. The question slowly processed in his mind about what she was wondering about. He looked at his own blade and then back to her in silent contemplation. "There is a long answer and a short one. Short one is Ildhrenion taught me all he knew about the sword." He stated calmly. He looked at his blade again. "The longer answer is, I always had a fascination with the blade. In between lessons I would sneak into town whenever the local blacksmith was making and shaping a sword. And it doesn't stop there, you have to polish and sharpen the blade. To sometimes naming the blade through either runes or by the own maker's word."

Locien took the blade off his waist to show her. "I forged this for my passage into adulthood. I have given it a title, not a name. Evil's Bane. When I think of an appropriate name it shall be given it. This blade according to some traditions, shall be forever linked with not only my name but my very soul as well. I also wonder if there is any blade forged by my biological family. Because if there is..."

Locien trailed off as he slowly frowned for a brief moment, then resumed smiling. "It doesn't matter much. Would've helped me in a long run though. What about you? Got any abilities you were taught, or self taught? Remember, I can keep a secret, if you wish to tell me."

Thalia placed her hands in her lap as she twisted the ring around in place. She couldn't help, but quickly look at his blade when he took it out.

"Evil's Bane is an interesting title. Me? I guess I have some abilities I was taught and or self-taught. Well I was taught how to dance and I am a good singer too so I was taught and learned many songs for fun. Also, if I watch someone do a new dance a few times I can learn it rather quickly. Although, those aren't really abilities I guess, mainly talents..." she paused as she ran her fingers through her hair, "Umm, I taught myself how to use darts and I am very good at it as started using them when I was young."

She pondered if she should tell him anything else and she decided to as she felt oddly chatty.

"Oh, I also learned how to make all types of poisons thanks to my Aunt, she gave me a very old book. I am currently reading in the book on how to make the antidotes. The book is in an older language than the one we use now, but my Aunt taught me the language. The last thing I know how to too, which Eli, my main guard, had trained me in was hand-to-hand combat," she said with a shrug. I wonder if Auntie and Eli are okay...I didn't see them when we were in our rush to leave.

She quickly pushed her thoughts away. Thalia rubbed her eyes to make the tears that threaten to rise go away. Thalia then closed her eyes and covered her mouth as she pretended to yawn. Next she stretched out and looked up at the sky. The sky was black and filled with bright stars. The full moon shone done brightly on their little campsite. Thalia looked at Locien once again.

"Are there any secrets you would like to tell me? I also know how to secrets. Oh, I guess I should mention this to be safe...if you ever think of telling anyone anything I told you in confidence...just know that I can easily kill you," she said with a friendly smile. She said the last part in a slightly joking matter. It would be up to Locien to decided if he thought she was serious or not.

Locien reluctantly held his tongue at the part she stated almost amusingly. He chuckled lightly, "Then I hope I am not the last of whatever clan I came from." He said jokingly before pondering about his next words carefully. He pondered for a long while, thinking on any personal secrets.

"Well, I used to..." Locien stopped in mid thought to think on what he was thinking. "I used to dream about The Pale One." He said finally. "According to Legend, The Pale One was the first Drow, which in ancient times meant 'outcast.' He was so much like me, a strange person in a land where no one cared much for him and took him for granted. Yet it is said he killed a demon with one cut."

Locien sighed. "Anyway, my dream was that he was staring down against an army of demons, and stared down at them and drew his sword and charged out, and I awoke, same time every morning, when dawn's light touched my face. Foster father claims it might mean I am possibly his descendant, but then again, most Drow clans might be." He chuckled. "So that's a dead end there in my family tree."
