Name:
Chris Delore

Aliases/Nicknames:
Krysdelore

Age:
Twenty two

Gender/Sexuality:
Male/Heterosexual

Occupation/Faction:
Chris is currently jobless, having recently escaped from the Contingency. He has some plans though for resistance.

Appearance:
Christ is a well built man, standing at an average height of 5'11" with broad shoulders. His hair is brown and cut short. His eyes are brown with a powerful aura around them that demands attention. He has an energy around him, a certain magnetism, that commands respect, and he will use this to great effect. While young, he has the look of someone who has a lived a hard life, which he has.

Skills/Powers:
  • Skill: Chris possesses the ability to turn the carbon in his body into its harder form, diamond, transforming into a ten foot tall crystalline juggernaut, capable of bulling through just about anything.
  • Bright sunlight will shine through his body and be concentrated into powerful, dangerous beams.
  • His voice is most melodious whilst in his human form, and is extremely persuasive.
  • He is trained in hand to hand combat, as well as in firearms.

Weaknesses/Flaws:
  • Weakness: Chris is on the knife edge of sanity, due to the feeling of the deaths of his five comrades within the gestalt that the Contingency manufactured within them.
  • When Chris is in his crystalline form he has a certain frame of mind of "Crystal" clarity. If that frame of mind is broken by strong emotion or extreme pain he will change back into a plain human.
  • The Contingency knows pretty much everything about Chris, seeing as they created him.

History:
Chris was created by the genius Dr.Delore as one of 6 extremely powerful unique humans to serve as a hunter team of unrivaled power. From creation he was raised to be a weapon, and he despised the feeling of being used. Years passed. Years of being trained, of being tested on, of experiments. The only thing that kept him sane were his team, who were all linked by a gene implanted in each one of them that connected their minds. They were still individuals, but they could feel one another's emotions and thoughts. Thus, they were a great team, moving in unison, acing all their tests. In the secrecy of their minds though, they planned. On all their twentieth birthday, they swore to break free. Two years of planning later, they managed to break out, but at what cost? Four of their number were dead. Chris and John were the only survivors. John, a metalkinetic, suggested that they split up and meet back up in Starkfield, which was relatively close to where they had been held.

After several days of travel, he came to the city, and found a homeless shelter, where he secured some plain clothes, and decided to set about finding a place to hole up until John met up with him. Then, he felt it. Horrible agony. The death of John. Utter silence in his head, with only his own thoughts there for comfort. It was slightly maddening. Thus, he crystallized, hoping to get away from the pain, and is now in the outskirts of Starkfield as a monster.

Personality:
Chris is an interesting character, with a rather different outlook on life. After being viewed as disposable for so long, he has begun to see others the same way. He sees vanilla humans as scum, people who are to afraid of difference to accept it, and went straight to imprisonment and testing and experimentation and killing. Thus, he sees the normals in the same way they see him. When it comes to his "people" though, he will do anything for their freedom from the Contingency. In him is a lot of anger, a raging fire that yearns to get out, along with a healthy fear of being taken alive. He is good with people though, for he had been trained as the leader of his group, and as such knows how to manipulate and lead people.

Currently he is in horrible emotional agony, after feeling his closest friends die terrible deaths, and is now coping with the absence of their presences in his mind. He is struggling with this, and is extremely unstable right now, and right now is getting ready to fight a one man war with the Contingency, the government, and whoever else stands in his way. He will see his people free, and he will kill for that vision.

So begins...

Day 1: Spring, 20XX
Location: Starkfield, USA.

The Contingency is doing their customary transfer of agents. Starkfield's former Scout has been replaced with Tatiana Witte, who had been stationed earlier in New Mexico. Everette Thorne, last of the first generation hunters, has recently moved to Starkfield for a case. The Special Operations Hunter, code name Durandal, is currently at base, waiting for debrief. All three of them are meeting at central base.

Chris Delore, who was experimented on by the Contingency, recently escaped from a lab and is currently wandering around the abandoned shipping district of the city. Nathan Knight is a wanted rebel who desires to destroy the Contingency. He has just arrived in Starkfield and is looking for both a place to eat and hide out.

Shiloh Lee is a waitress at a popular restaurant called Wrangell's Diner, known as W-Diner for short. Serentiy and her band, Wolves Bite Back, have been hired to play there for the night. Mack Johnson has been unwillingly dragged there by a man who claims to have some of the material he needs. Azarael Lewis, worn after a long day as an EMT, has decided to drop by for a bite to eat.

Emptiness. That was the overwhelming feeling that filled the man walking by himself through the maze of old warehouses. The death of his comrades in their escape had torn holes in his psyche, and it didn't seem they would heal anytime soon. His one consolation was that he was free. But all he wanted to do right now was use his freedom to tear mountains down and fill the streets with the blood of the thrice damned contingency that had done this to him. He was walking aimlessly, when a group of men came out of a battered old warehouse. There were three in total, a squat, ugly man with a knife as ugly as he, a thin man-child with more acne than clean face, and a decently built man who looked to be in his twenties, carrying a length of iron. The ugly man called out "Hey! This is our street, ya hear! Give us your money and we won't bash your face in." As he said this, he approached Chris confident in his knife and his comrades.

Chris looked up as they approached, and smiled. However there was something wrong with his smile, for crazy danced merrily in his eyes. "Now now, I would hate to give extra work to the street cleaners. Move aside, or get reduced to stains. Now." He took a step forward, popping his knuckles.

The man with the knife snorted, and said "Alright man, have it your way" and then lunged with the knife. However, the knife met diamond, and skidded off with the shriek of tortured metal, which was followed by the shriek of tortured man as he thrust his hand through the man's stomach, tearing vital organs to bloody ribbons. A living man was picked up, and a mass of so much tattered cloth and meat fell to the ground. The other two fellows screamed and ran from what they saw. For what did they see? They saw a crystalline giant, with no humanity in its gaze. They saw the red of their friend dripping from its hand. And it was terrifying to be reduced from top of your local food chain to a victim of evolution.

The beast that was the grief in Chris's heart settled down slightly after releasing some of that energy, and Chris shifted back to his normal, plain human form, and began wandering the district more, though the rumbling of his stomach made him realize he needed food. Thus, he began moving closer to the heart of town.

Chris casually walked down the street, following the smells of food that wafted through the air, but he was on auto pilot. All he could think about was the emptiness. The lack of anything beside himself in his head. His closest friends were gone, and what would anyone else know? Who on this ball of rock could ever understand what he had and lost? Moisture gathered at his eyes but he willed them away and focused on overcoming the pain. Every beat of his heart brought a fresh wave of crushing pain. John with sense of humor would have known what to say to lighten the mood, but he was gone. Julia would have said something deep and meaningful to help him make sense. Faster and faster thoughts like these whirled through his mind, and as such he just wandered into the first building that seemed vaguely restaurant like. Some place called the W-Diner. Though as he walked in alarm bells went off in his head as he realized the two fellows from earlier were here and screaming. He quickly scanned the room, seeing several people. Too many if he wanted to keep his head down, though the two who had seen him in his glory had to die. But how to separate them?

Allen wheeled around instinctually as soon as he heard the shouting, his hand diving inside his jacket for the holster of his MP7; he stopped before pulling it out, scanning the scene before him.

A big, burly man had walked into the diner, and the two screaming, bloodied men who had barged in were cowering against the counter while the cook peered out from his kitchen and the surly woman on register duty raised an eyebrow.

The men were still whimpering and the one they were scared of was looking through the room, searching for... something. He had some ill business with these people.

Slowly, to avoid suspicion, Allen moved his hand out from his jacket. He wasn't going to gun the guy down if he was just a mere street thug.

Azzy looked over at Chase, squeezed Nathan's hand." Chase is...." abruptly cut off mid sentence by two panicked bloody men, rushing away from what seemed to be their nightmares. "It's a monster," cried one, collapsing in front of Nate and Azzy's table. On instinct Azzy jumped up and started assessing the man's situation; first leaning in to detect his breath on her cheek, taking his pulse, than visually seeing if any of his slashes were life threatenings. Calmly but in control"Nate take those two napkins, fold them into a square, use that as compression on the wound on his ribs." Nate's eyes were darting back and forth. He got beside her with the compression and applied it to the still man's ribs. The fellow's chest rose and fell, but did not rise again. Before Azzy could start CPR Chase was by her side; doing the regulated 30 compressions, then Azzy swiped his mouth, pinched his nose and gave him two deep breaths. This continued, for several minutes before he caught his breath and could breathe on his own again. By the time Azzy thought to look up Nathan was gone.

Mack knew something was going to happen. Maybe an explosion, or a mad-man with a gun. He wasn't really expecting two mad-man screaming 'Monster' and another guy, a big guy. Not as tall as himself, but certainly wider and most likely stronger than Mack. Of course, through this Mack was okay. But when one of the bloodied and hurt was thrown into a chair at his table, Mack screamed out, "Oh God!" jumped out of his chair and scrambled towards a wall.

Reaching into one of his lab-coat pockets, Mack grabbed his video-glasses. Like Google Glass, except just for videotaping things. He shoved them on his face, pressed a button on the side of the glasses and started watching. When the man who was in the chair beside Mack started calming down, the scientist noticed something around the man. Looking around quite fast, Mack noticed the waitress focusing a tad bit too hard on the calming man.

What the hell is happening!? was Mack's thought as he slid down to the ground, back still to the wall. Reaching into his pocket for his cellphone, Mack pressed a few things on the touchscreen and his video glasses were now connected to his phone via bluetooth. Realizing that he was in a really bad angle, Mack stood back up. He was going to catch all of this, even if it may just be a giant thug killing a couple of snitches. But, it probably wasn't that. It was obviously going to be much, much worse.

...And Mack was surely going to die.

Nathan did as he was told by Azzy to help the man that just stumbled in before them. Once he handed her the napkins he looked over at the other man who was acting like a pinball, bouncing from the waitress who has yet to take his order, and the nervous guy in a labcoat. The bloodied guy landed on a chair at the nervous guy's table. His head whipped over to the door as a rather large, and burly man entered the diner, which seemed to make the guy panic even more.

But then the guy calmed down out of nowhere. He began looking at the air, and started to get up. He began stumbling over to a empty booth, and collapsed on the table. It was a strange sight. 'Is he stoned?' He wondered. He looked around the restaurant to see if anything else was out of the ordinary. It was difficult due to all the commotion, but he did notice the waitress staring rather strangely at the man.

Then he noticed the nervous guy take out a pair of glasses. He studied the glasses closely, and noticed buttons on it. His eyes widened when he saw him press a button on them. Nate kept his head low, and out of the man's sight. He slunk over to his bags, and quickly sneaked out to the men's room while everyone was focused on all the commotion. Once he got inside he began quickly putting his Black Knight armor on. He's had enough practice to be able to change into his armor within one and a half minutes.

Once the finial touches on his armor was on he climbed up on a toilet, and used one of his short swords to open the window above it. Once he jimmied it open he tossed his bags out the window, and he soon followed them. He landed in the alleyway next to the diner. He grabbed his bags, and hid them behind some trash cans. He quietly snuck through the alley, and hid around the corner. He wasn't quite sure what was going on, and some guy recording everything didn't make things easy, but he wasn't going to leave if Azzy is in any sort of danger.

"Just our luck," muttered Tatiana, noting the three strange men that had run into W-Diner. She had reached instinctively for her purse, where her gun had been stored. She glanced at Allen, about to sign to him, but her phone rang before she could. "Hello?" she answered.

"Hiya, Tanya!"[/i] She blinked, recognizing the cheerful voice. "You and Randy are off duty, but... we're never off duty, hm?"

"Janet!" replied Tatiana, equally cheerful. "I haven't seen you in ages! What's up?" She tapped a seemingly absent-minded rhythm on her leg. Contingency call. Overseer, she silently messaged Allen.

"There's been a murder, probably of EN origin." The voice abruptly turned cold. "Two witnesses and the suspected killer are presumed to be--"

"On Blue Street?" she finished. "Yeah, I think I know what you're talking about. I see the restaurant you recommended."

"Durandal and you are on Alert 3: maintain visuals, observe the suspect, but only take direct action if extreme violence occurs. Don't blow your covers. Suspect is a large male who..." sudden silence, before Zre continued as if nothing had happened. "Remain vigilant." The call ended. Well, that was odd. And it had to happened while we were off-duty, too... Oh well.

She laughed. "Oh, Janet." Tatiana looked at Allen, casually (though carefully) reached for his hand, making sure that her actions didn't impair his movement. "She's such a ditz sometimes." Rapidly and discreetly, she relayed the message in code. Suspect in murder: alleged EN. Alert "Want to head inside?"

Tatiana flipping out her phone to suddenly talk to "Janet" was a bit odd, but then Allen realized that it was probably Zre calling in to state the situation. The universally known fact about intelligence, in both professional and paramilitary armed forves, was that it was always too slow and, often, dead wrong.

When Tatiana grabbed his hand, he was momentarily a bit flustered, the slightest hint of red rising to his cheeks, before he understood: she was communicating to him via code. Clever girl.

He was never the best at cloak-and-dagger subtletly, but after a few seconds he got the general meaning: "killer EN. Be careful." And hell, the guy who had just walked in looke pretty dangerous. Would a pithy little machinepistol be sufficient if hell broke loose?

He'd have to roll with it, Allen told himself, and headed inside the diner with Tatiana at his side, navigating for an empty corner booth. Well protected, but with a good view of the room and outside too. Perfect.

Pandemonium has been unleashed in the small diner, and that suited Chris just fine. After analyzing the situation, he decided to play the local thug who had been cheated. Donning a grim expression, he moved towards the center of the room, and announced to the room in a low rumbling bass "Every one calm down. No one will get hurt if you don't get in the way. These two idiots here" gesturing towards the two men, one strangely calm, the other being given first aid "Had the audacity to try some special stuff of my boss's concoction without paying. So here I am, doing a job. I'll be out of everyone's way as soon as I have these two." After this little speech he moved towards the calm one and grabbed him. As he pulled the man out of the table he noticed the cashier trying to discreetly talk on the phone. With a shake of his head and a grimace he quickly pulled his victim into his arms and deftly snapped his neck with a sickening crunch. Letting the body fall to the ground he moved towards the cashier "Calling friends and men in uniform is getting in my way. And I do hate things that get in my way." in a voice rippling with anger, everything snapped into focus, and without really meaning to, his body fulfilled his desire for violence and he changed. Soft human flesh turned into rigid diamond, and he grew, the lights of the diner filtering through his body in a kaleidoscope of color. With a savage attempt at a smile, a voice that sounded like rock grinding on glass in a way that sent shivers up the spine. "Should have listened, eh?" and he drew his arm back to obliterate this pathetic normal who had dared to try and stop him. He was growing tired of the audacity of humankind. It was time to make an example to the rest of humanity, that they were no longer the top of the food chain. It was time for them to step down from their throne, and let him and those like him take their place.

Allen watched the man's motions with caution, still uneasy, and then...

He started the killing.

First one of the guys who had run inside; the neck snapping could be heard across the room. But then, when he wheeled on the lady who was calling, sprouting crystalline formations no less, Allen knew the situation had become hostile.

His machinepistol was definitely ineffective now.

Allen tried to gauge how fast the thing could run while crystalline; if it went out of its state to run faster, he could easily shoot it. But he needed to know whether to bail out, try to request that Zre drive an armoured van with the Durandal suit down to the vicinity, or just play calm.

He turned to his companion and whispered rapidly in her ear. "Tatiana, get in contact with Zre, if you can do it without this guy noticing. Tell them to bring down some footmen, the Durandal suit, and a heavy machine gun."

Tatiana glanced down at the menu, putting on the act of a typical patron. She glanced back up to see— Holy shit. The suspect had just snapped a man's neck. The now-deceased man had screamed about a monster, and he was apparently right. She watched in horror as the man transformed into some sort of crystalline... thing. Then, with no remorse, the creature killed the cashier.

Allen pulled her close to him and whispered in her ear. "Tatiana, get in contact with Zre, if you can do it without this guy noticing. Tell them to bring down some footmen, the Durandal suit, and a heavy machine gun."

Tatiana nodded, her mind whirling. The creature had murdered the poor cashier for simply calling the police. She'd have to do it discreetly. What were her options? The phone was out, though her bluetooth earpiece might work. (Why in the world had she taken it out? Oh right. She was off-duty, and an earpiece would look suspicious on a "date.")

Suddenly, she remembered her sunglasses—which worked like a better version of Google Glass. She'd look a bit silly, putting them on indoors, but it was better than the alternative. Quietly, she slipped the glasses on as she ducked for cover under the table. Tatiana pressed the panic button on the frame, and the Overseer symbol popped up pin the corner. From her position under the table, she could (barely) see the crystallized man; and that meant that HQ could see him too. Words scrolled in front of her eyes.

Suspect identity confirmed: classified. EN ability: crystalline transformation. Weakness: emotional instability, leading to volatile transformation. How the hell is that going to help? Clean-up crew estimated arrival: 20 min. Orders: minimize casualties. The words vanished. That's it? she thought, irritated. Zre's hiding something. Wonderful.

Tatiana slid next to Allen. The screaming and noises would allow her to communicate with him, making sure that no one could overhear her.. She whispered, "Contacted HQ. Destabilizing him emotionally will cause him to turn back. Clean-up'll be here in 20 min. Our only orders are to minimize casualties."

An angry voice suddenly caught her attention. "They follow me around like I’m a freaking disgusting monster and won’t even allow me to leave without keeping tabs on me." Tatiana glanced at an Asian woman with striking gold eyes. She looked vaguely familiar—and incredibly angry. "My only family member has to break his back just so he can keep them at bay and men like you have to come and fuck it all up for the rest of us.”

Tatiana blinked. She... was one of the suspected ENs in Starkfield, one of the ones on the List. Tatiana had looked over her file, way back then. S-something. Shion? Shion Lee? She'd have to review the files, when she got back. Dammit, don't tell me there's going to be another incident!

Tatiana turned back to Allen, waiting for his response. Her eyes flickered the the violent creature.

Nate heard all the screams from the killings, and peered inside, now the 'monster' was a giant diamond, well, monster. Well now he had to step in, even though he's not quite sure what he can do to him. But he can't let Azzy get harmed(or anyone else in the diner of course). He snuck around the front entrance, and peered inside, and saw the last bit of the waitress' freak out at the man. He glared at the diamond man, and all he could think about was how useful a guy like him would be in fighting the Contingency.

Nate pondered in his mind of the different ways he should approached this. If this guy was truly made out of diamond, then attacking him would be difficult. His pistols would be completely useless, and the only way his swords would do anything to him is if he can get enough force, and find the right spot to attack. Then he had to think about the civilians in the diner, if this escalated into a fight he would need to draw him away from the crowd, and out of the closed space of the diner if he's going to stand any chance.

Nate took a deep breath in, and sighed. This isn't how he wanted things to start in this city, but this diamond prick forced his hand. Nate got up, and kicked the door open, making sure his presence was known. He scanned the room, and started towards the crystal juggernaut. He brushed past a couple of people, and pasted Azzy. He glanced down at her, but he quickly returned his focus to the behemoth before him. "I think that's enough. The service here is crap, but that's not enough for you to start killing people." Nate bellowed with his voice deepened by his mask.

He glanced over to the nervous guy in a labcoat still recording it. "Stop recording. I'm camera shy." He ordered as he quickly whipped out a pistol, and shot at the wall right next to his head to get his point across. Nate holstered the pistol with a stylish cowboy-like spin of the pistol. "Now, let's have a chat Big Guy. Outside. We've got some stuff to discuss." Nate then reached over his head, and withdrew his twin short swords. "That wasn't a suggestion friend."

As his arm went through the waitress he felt a sharp stab of remorse go through him as a phantom voice, Jenny's, went through his head. It admonished him for the wanton cruelty, but was quickly washed away by another waitress approaching him, ranting about how he had screwed everything up for people like them. Turning to face her, blood dripping from his hand he took a threatening stance, and stared at her. Then, he spoke, that awful voice ripping through the air. "You know nothing of suffering. You complain about not being able to do as you wish, not being allowed to go to college" This he said with a mocking tone laced through the brutal voice. "I have spent my entire life under their hands and only now have I achieved freedom, and I will not allow that to be taken from me. The time has come for people like us to stand free. Yes its sad that that one had to die, but I will kill a thousand more like her if it means I bring down the wretched Contingency. Now move aside, I see someone else feels brave enough to challenge." As he said this last sentence he moved forward, brushing past Mumpy and Shiloh without a backwards glance.

In front of him stood a man in armor reminiscent of some knightly order of the past. Armed with a pair of swords to boot.
"Now, let's have a chat Big Guy. Outside. We've got some stuff to discuss." the unknown man called out.

"If you think steel can do anything to me you are sadly mistaken, but I don't have a problem with discussion. I need to get out of here before the agents start swarming in." And with that statement he moved towards the door.

Allen growled as he watched the other man, one who somehow snuck in fucking swords into a diner, get the crystalman to walk out. This could not go; these men needed to be delayed so that the response team could arrive. The crystalman would pose a threat, but a few bursts from the machine gun and sword guy was dead.

That posed the key issue; Allen could dispatch both right now if he had the element of surprise.

He could pop sword guy in the shoulder, and possibly the crystalman would be so surprised that it'd be considered "destablized".

...no, that was suicidal. They might see him pulling the weapon. Sword guy might dodge in time. Crystalman might not be destabilized and gore Allen.

Tracking them once they left, then, was the only option. But how?

He turned to Tatiana. "If they're leaving, we need to follow them so the clean-up team knows where to drop the gear. Any ideas?"

Frantically, yet subtly looking for his familiar face in the chaotic crowd, Azzy painfully realized none matched Nate's'." Where in the hell was he and why had Nate run? Will I ever see him again?" These were the spilt second thoughts she couldn't linger on, because the situation at hand was dire. The chaos of the diner heightened when the thug changed to a crystallized beast, then a diamond monster. Calm under pressure, Azzy appraised the situation carefully. The man she had saved needed the expertise of the hospital. How was she going to get him past the monster? She thought to use her powers on the monstrous beast, but how could she do that without revealing who she was, besides she didn't think that the snakes would phase him.

With fearless abandonment Shiloh angrily spoke, “Why do you need to hurt everyone else? Why can’t you just take those men and leave like you said you were? So what? You’ve got some stupid powers? Congratsu-fucking-lations.” Azzy feared her courageousness would cost Shiloh her life, just like it had the cashier. Without calling attention to herself she slowly edged closer. Chase saw Azzy's movement; brushed his hand against hers, grabbed her pinky for her to stop, but Azzy pulled her finger away from Chase's grip. Instinctively he edge himself closer to the action, to Azzy.

The deafening crash of the door flying open instantly stopped the commotion of the crowd. A modern day knight; decked out in black armor, guns and swords, donning a steely grey metal helmet shaped like a skull, topped off with a black scarf that added a little class, made his presence known. His resonant voice booming from his helmet; "I think that's enough. The service here is crap, but that's not enough for you to start killing people. Now, let's have a chat Big Guy. Outside. We've got some stuff to discuss." the brave knight called out.

"If you think steel can do anything to me you are sadly mistaken, but I don't have a problem with discussion. I need to get out of here before the agents start swarming in."Azzy hadn't had time to think about the agents. Although she hadn't shown her true colors, she avoided being in the same place as the Contingency. Azrael swallowed slowly; planted her feet, and decided to wait out the scene that was playing before her. As she focused on the Black Knight something about him seemed familiar; not actually about him but what he wore. The black scarf looked like one she made 10 summers ago......but that couldn't be, could it?

"And that we both can agree on." Nate said as he watched the diamond behemoth walk towards the exit. He was a little surprised that this went so smoothly. He'd expected the guy to fight him or something, but still, he wasn't going to take that off the table. He began to follow the man, but stopped, and looked at the waitress that yelled at the diamond guy. She was reasonable upset, and he wanted to say something to her. "I...I'm sorry." He muttered, most likely unheard to her. He couldn't help but think if he went straight in there after he got armored up, then maybe no one would have died.

He glanced over at Azrael, and the dying man. It took all he had not to say something to her. He wanted her to know that he wasn't gone forever, that he was still there. But he can't drag her into this, and the Contingency has eyes everywhere. He then followed the diamond guy outside, and let out a big sigh. "You are the single most idiotic asshole I've ever seen!" He snarled at the man, despite knowing full well that he could kill him with but a single punch.

"Killing in broad daylight?! For a guy who wants to avoid the Contingency, you are sure as hell making it easy for them to take you!" He continued to yell at him. "You have any idea what you have done in there?! Now they know I'm here, and that makes my job so much more difficult." He stated, not even caring to tell him what his job is. "I've got to get out of here."
