Name: Mack Olsen Johnsen

Aliases/Nicknames: Macky to friends and family. The "Paranoid Freak" to most everyone else. Known as "FindingTruth38" across blogs, walls and the Internet.

Age: Twenty

Gender/Sexuality: Male/Asexual

Occupation/Faction: Professional Shut-In/The Mundane

Appearance: Usually stuck-up in his house, Mack wears pajama pants and loose and overly-large shirts under his lab coat. When in public he wears a white dress-shirt tucked into comfortable black dress-pants with his lab coat over it all. He wears nice black shoes everywhere he goes. The hair on his skull is a mess, he doesn't bother to do anything with it even though he does do his facial hair. Mack isn't fat, but he is not built or toned at all. Somewhat fit from walking and lifting things. Macky comes in at six feet tall.

Skills/Powers:
  • Mechanics/Mechanical Engineering: His skill with most anything mechanical is great. He can fix almost anything if he has the plans. Also builds his own things.
  • Electrical Engineering: Usually can fix any electrical problem he has. Is a whiz with electricity.
  • Computer Engineering: Computers, computer programs, he can do it all. Create them, fix them, understand them, hack them. Also, hacking.
  • Psychology: Took multiple psychology courses because of his paranoia. Can understand and read people quite easily.
  • Paranoia: He knows its a strength, a skill to be able to question everything and everyone.
  • Memory: Can mostly remember most of the things he learns/hears/sees.
  • Observational Skills: Due to having lots of free time when he was a child, Mack unknowingly trained his observational skills to something great.

Weaknesses/Flaws:
  • Paranoia: He knows it is a weakness, but Mack can't help it. He's not able to trust anyone at all.
  • Stutter: When highly emotional he gains a horrible stutter that leads him unable to talk.
  • Physicality: Mack isn't very strong and his endurance is quite low.
  • Reliance on Technology: Take away his tool, his technology, his projects and Mach is a genius without anything to work with. He becomes nothing.

History: Born as the third child of five, Mack has always been mostly ignored and left to his own thoughts, his parents punishing his older siblings the hardest while doting and spoiling his youngest the most. He was truly left to his own devices, and didn't rely on his parents for many things. He did rely on them for their money, though. Also born into a family of great wealth, Mack decided to go into the field of engineering and anything to do with said engineering. He has always loved building things.

When he was eight, Mack started memorising things clearer and much more efficiently. Intrigued as to what was causing this, Mack found that he had an eidetic memory. Mack understood that he had a gift, so he trained his memory with trying to remember how many hats are in a room, the features of a painting, et cetera. This, in turn, also boosted his observational skills. After he lost his ability to recall things perfectly, Mack had found that he could see mistakes easier and just see easier. Even though his memory is still amazing, he misses the ability to recall memories perfectly.

Watching anything horror and sci-fi is what caused Mack to become so paranoid. Just thinking that technology could control minds, that people could become...more completely terrified Mack to his core, and he became a shut-in. He studied longer, he stopped talking, the thoughts in his head getting wilder and wilder and then his parents died in a car accident and these habits and thoughts started getting worse. Then he became estranged. Then he started living off his inheritance. And now he is in Starkfield, a place where paranoia sky-rockets. He can't leave though, most of his projects rely on what the city has to offer. Like his AI or Fully Personalized Artificial Intelligence. Or Fiona. Mack's AI is rooted in Starkfield, and leaving would mean to disconnect her and restart everything.

Personality: Mack is a loner. He is truly a shut-in, barely leaving the confines of his house and never talking to anyone. Even when situations that permit that he has to talk, he doesn't. He is fearful of most anything, anyone and everything. Except himself of course, but even that solace is slipping. He finds comfort with his creations, his machines and his technology.

His mind is on fast-forward all the time. He thinks and thinks, and when talking to himself, he talks fast but normally. When in a very stressful situation, or when he is highly-emotional Mack stutters and usually has to take a moment to compose himself. When working, his mind is solely on the project, to finish it in record time. When he isn't working, he comes up with crack-pot theories that are sometimes actually right.

When on the Internet he hides behind firewalls, leaves traces of other people and just doesn't let the source be traced back to him. On the Internet, only known as "FindingTruth38" he is outspoken, he truly lets his mind have voice. But usually only people like him are drawn to Mack. When "normal" people come across Mack, they call him crazy and paranoid.

Overall, Mack is unapproachable. He will turn the other way if he catches you looking at him. Even thugs are frightened of him due to his sketchy nature.

So begins...

Day 1: Spring, 20XX
Location: Starkfield, USA.

The Contingency is doing their customary transfer of agents. Starkfield's former Scout has been replaced with Tatiana Witte, who had been stationed earlier in New Mexico. Everette Thorne, last of the first generation hunters, has recently moved to Starkfield for a case. The Special Operations Hunter, code name Durandal, is currently at base, waiting for debrief. All three of them are meeting at central base.

Chris Delore, who was experimented on by the Contingency, recently escaped from a lab and is currently wandering around the abandoned shipping district of the city. Nathan Knight is a wanted rebel who desires to destroy the Contingency. He has just arrived in Starkfield and is looking for both a place to eat and hide out.

Shiloh Lee is a waitress at a popular restaurant called Wrangell's Diner, known as W-Diner for short. Serentiy and her band, Wolves Bite Back, have been hired to play there for the night. Mack Johnson has been unwillingly dragged there by a man who claims to have some of the material he needs. Azarael Lewis, worn after a long day as an EMT, has decided to drop by for a bite to eat.

He was scared.

"We'll be meeting at Wrangell's Diner."

"No. I-I...I won't d-do it."

"If you want the stuff, you'll be at Wrangell's Diner. And I know that you don't just want it. You need it."

"F-f-f-fu... Fine."

He was terrified, really. Just the thought of going out into Starkfield left him paralyzed. But he had to bulldoze through that paralysis.

"Why am I doing this? What's the point if all I'm going to do is die?"

"Sir, you will not die. It is your irrationality that makes you terrified. You will be fine."

"Fiona, I won't be fine. I'm going out there and someone with powers of some sort is going to blow something up. I'm going to be in the middle of something big and I won't be able to get out."

"Sir, you will be fine. There is no one with powers, nothing will happen. I'll run scenario's and the most likely that will happen is that you go there, make a deal, and get back. Easy."

His AI was saying that everything would be fine, but Mack Johnsen knew that nothing would fine. He was going to die and he was utterly terrified. Why did that man have to do this to him? Mack wanted to do a clean, over-the-Internet business procedure. Buy the material, get it shipped to his front door. But no. The man that was selling refused to not meet Mack, intrigued why he needed, wanted, so much graphene. Who wouldn't? It's the strongest material on earth, it conducts heat, conducts electricity just as well as copper and it would be so useful for Mack's machines.

But maybe he didn't need it. He could do without it, using more expensive and less reliable-NO! Mack may be scared of his own shadow, but he wasn't stupid and passing up a chance at graphene... The man in the lab coat finally made it to Wrangell's Diner. Sitting down in the back corner of the main room of the Diner, Macky clasped his hands together and watched wide-eyed for anything amiss.

“What do you mean I’m unable to get a grant?” She growled as she stared at the phone screen that projected the unfortunate news of being ineligible from obtaining any kinds of grants. “I’m a freaking orphan who owns their own apartment! The government better be coughing up that goddamn money!” Shiloh chucked her phone across the break room in anger, her golden eyes seemingly glowing underneath the buzzing fluorescent lights. Mumpy watched her carefully to make sure she had nothing else in her hand before walking over to pick up her phone, dusting it off and re-reading the email. “First they reject me from a freaking loan now this? How the hell am I supposed to pay for college?” Shiloh threw her hands up in the air only to slam them down on her own head, ruffling her head in aggravation. “We can barely afford the apartment!”

Mumpy took in the words carefully as he grabbed an apron, tying it around his waist with one hand. “I know you dislike me speaking of it but I do believe it is the work of the Contingency to prevent you from attending anywhere with a mass amount of people in it. Perhaps precautionary, if you will.” Mumpy stared at her before ducking, just avoiding a black shoe.
“I don’t give two shits about that agency or whatever and that makes no sense! I’m here surrounded by a lot of people now, aren’t I?” The malice that swelled up within her stomach was now radiating off of her like heat. “I just want to attend freaking university!” Shiloh began to kick the wall behind her, causing Mumpy to rush towards her and grab her, dragging her away from the wall as she flailed for a few seconds, basking in the injustice of not being able to pay her tuition.
“If it makes you happy, Shiloh, I can always pick up a second job. You do know that human functions are indeed optional to me. I do not need to sleep nor eat so if you sincerely wish for me to work, then just command me so and I will get a second job.” His words caused Shiloh to go limp as she stared at the wall, her eyebrows still furrowed from her rage.

“You know I don’t want that.” She finally said, breathing slow to try and calm herself. “I’d rather drop than put more responsibilities on your shoulders.” Mumpy released her and Shiloh stood, fixing her tousled clothing and her unkempt hair in the mirror. “I guess I will just have to post-pone classes for now, maybe even drop out.” Shiloh sighed as she brushed her with her slender fingers and pulled it back into a bun.
Mumpy gave her a remorseful look before walking over towards the shoe she’d chuck earlier and handing it to her, watching her hop on one foot to try and put the shoe on. “This education means a lot to you, huh? Is it true that such trivial things will determine your worth within the workforce?” He crossed his arms and watched her as she tucked her black shirt in her black pants. “I’ve been here for nearly eighteen years yet I have been unable to understand such a society.” He shook his head with closed eyes, causing Shiloh to walk near him.
She spun him around and began to pull back his shoulder-length raven hair into a ponytail. “Well get in line.” She said, wrapping the tie around his hair. “And it means a whole lot more than worth within the workforce. It’s what determines how much money you can make within the future and both of us know how much we need that.” Shiloh found herself leaning her head against his blades, her fingers hooked around his shoulders.

The two stayed silent for a while before a knock echoed within the room. “Don’t mean to bother sibling love, but it’s nearly time for your shift to start.” Bernard Wrangell, the diner’s owner, walked in and gave the two of them a grandfatherly smile. “Because of that band, we have a full house tonight so tips are going to be good!” He gave the two of them thumbs up before chuckling to himself. Bernard was a well known man throughout Starkfield. He was an older gentleman who had celebrated his sixtieth birthday for about two decades now and was most known as war hero who returned with a number of badges. Friendly like a dog, Bernard never turns away those who needs help and while only knew the two for a very short amount of time, he was the closest thing to a friend the two had.
“Ah,” Mumpy said, moving away from Shiloh who was now putting on her apron and her waitress belt. “That’s right, if I am correct, it’s the band that Carly enjoys…” Mumpy stumped himself, trying to remember the name of the band.
“Wolves bite back.” Shiloh answered before Bernard could interfere with his answer. Carly was the landlord’s daughter and while not good of Shiloh’s, had an intense crush on Mumpy therefore hung around them like flies around a pile of shit. Shiloh disliked her greatly but kept her mouth shut for the sake of Mumpy as he never had any other female friends other than Shiloh herself. She also needn’t to worry about Carly stealing Mumpy away from as he was completely asexual and lacked the animalistic nature to reproduce. Hell, the man lacked the entire organ to do so.

“Well then,” Shiloh said, done with tying her belt on and checking that it has all of the correct tools within it. “I guess it’s time for us to work.” She placed her hands on her hips as she watched Mumpy check his own belt. Bernard simply smiled and praised the two, voicing out how he had wished his children had such a strong bond before leaving the room. It was Shiloh who left first, punching in her numbers and heading towards the board that explained who were responsible for what duty.
Shiloh knew she’d be in charge of the even numbers in section A of the restaurant without even verifying it. That was her section of duty ever since she began to work there and because of this, she often had returning customers who preferred her over other waitresses. Shiloh had no doubt it was because she feigned the innocent and friendly look when waiting, but others would argue that it was because of her unique look. Not many people had golden eyes and even fewer people where Asian with golden eyes- hell, Shiloh was certain that she was the only one other than Mumpy (although she didn’t consider him as she was the one who created him).

It wasn’t odd that people would stare at her or Mumpy for a long while and before she knew it, Shiloh stopped noticing the stares as they became something so common she became numb to it. However there were times where she wished she had an average look as her eyes are what caused the Contingency to firstly look into her to begin with which caused them to make the discovery of Mumpy, a man who ‘magically’ appeared out of nowhere within their files with no historical records such as a birth certificate or a social security number (not even medical records). While Shiloh knew they’d catch on eventually, she always had the feeling that if she looked completely average then perhaps their discovery would be prolonged and they could’ve hid from the Contingency further.
The grants and loans suddenly popped into Shiloh’s head and frustration ticked in her veins once more. She swallowed down the anger once more and tried to calm her pulse. She should just be lucky that they have yet to discover what Shiloh’s powers actually were. Because of this and because of the little damage and use of her powers, she was convinced of them knowing nothing about her prowess. Hell, the only time she ever used them was when Mumpy took her to a secluded place somewhere up in the middle of nowhere under the alias of a camping trip. Even though she knew Mumpy did such thing for her own safety, Shiloh couldn’t help but to strongly dislike the entire memory and idea of ever going there. Since that day, any form of vacation coming from Mumpy’s mouth has been strongly rejected.

Shiloh headed towards her section, taking out a few menus before placing them on the table with her friendly waitress smile and giving the customers her name before asking them what’d they like to start off the evening with. They smiled and told her, she wrote it down and got their drinks, serving them with as much ‘sincerity’ as possible to try and earn a decent tip from them. Another table became occupied and Shiloh didn’t hesitate to make her way over towards it. It was the back corner table; a table that was common for the busboys or girls to sit and play on their phone as they ‘cleaned’ the table since it was a table not commonly seen from the front.
The man who currently vacated the table was anxiously nervous seeming and while Shiloh knew that illicit activities normally didn’t happen around this part of the Blue Street, she didn’t hesitate to think that this man could be a potential druggie making his dealing here- especially with that lab coat. Despite her thoughts, Shiloh advanced towards the man and put on her usual smile. “Good evening sir,” She began, placing the menu(s) down on the table. “My name’s Shiloh and I will be your waitress tonight. Can I start you off with anything? Our special tonight is the angus beef chili with broccoli and cheese.” She watched him with the same smile, pulling out her pen and paper to write down whatever he’d like to order.

Sometimes it's rough being a one-man army against a government funded organization with nearly unlimited resources. Scratch that, it's always rough being a one-man army against a government funded organization with nearly unlimited resources. Once a Contingency base has been cleared out Nathan must left the city it was located in ASAP, and change the license plate on his motorcycle, all within a very short timeframe. Nathan isn't one to tot his own horn, or anything, but it's pretty amazing that he hasn't been caught in seven years. Nathan is at that point again where he must transfer to a new city, to a new target. Next is Starkfield.

Nathan rode into town on his white motorcycle that he appropriately named the 'Pale Horse', as death does follow with him. He had two large duffle bags strapped on the back that holds his weapons, equipment, and a couple changes of cloths. He knew what he needed to do, he's done this so much that he has a check list. First, he needs a place to hold up. He prefers more densely populated areas, that way he can simply slip into a crowd if things get dicey, as well as the fact that it'd be less likely for him to be attacked out in the open, and it limits the strategies can be used against him. Second, he needs to find the local Scout. They can lead him to the main base, and are generally easier to handle then a hunter. And third, find the base, and slaughter everyone inside. And blow it up if there's time.

But before he does any of that, he needs some food. As he rode down the streets he made sure to take side roads, ones with less cameras to cover all his bases. Nathan could feel his tummy rumbling, he needed to get something to eat soon. While he could stop by at some popular fast food chain, but he's a supporter of local business, that and the fact that most local restaurants have far less security cameras. He's paranoid like that.

He noticed two people walking on the sidewalk, both were women in their mid-twenties. He pulled over on the side of the road in front of them. He took off his helmet, and looked at the two. While he was only going to ask for directions to a good restaurant, it never hurts to pull out the baby blues to make people more cooperative. He's been told that he's quite the handsome devil a number of times. "I'm sorry to disturb you ladies, but you wouldn't happen to know where I could find a good place to eat?" He asked with the most charming smile he could muster. "Yeah, Wrangell's Diner. It's out on Blue Street." One of the women answered, and pointed in the general direction.

"Don't worry, Blue Street is hard to miss. It's got a bunch of Clubs, and stores. You'll know it went you see it." The other women chimed in. "Thank you very much ladies. You have a nice day." Nathan gave them a nod, and put his helmet back on. And with that he was off to this Wrangell's Diner.

It didn't take him too long to find Blue Street, and as the woman said it was kind of hard to miss. Once he found the diner he parked in front of it. He grabbed his bags, and went inside. He wasn't going to risk leaving his bags outside on his bike, everything he owes are in those bags after all. Once inside Nathan went to the far back wall, while still relatively close to the door, and sat down at a table, with his back to the wall. He makes it a point to sit in such places, that way it is less likely for a surprise attack. Again, he's paranoid like that.

He slid his bags on the floor underneath the table, and waited for a waitress to take his order. He grabbed a napkin, and just idly began to fold it. It soon began to take shape as a swan. He saw a video of someone doing the same thing, and thanks to his ability he can do it. Once he finished one he began making another, and then another. Why? Because he's bored, and sometimes his mind just wonders.

Mack twitched. People were looking at him. "Can I start you off with anything?" the waitress asked him.

Mack looked at her fa...gold eyes. Golden eyes. Mack was now more than terrified because of those golden eyes. "C-c-c-c..." Mack started, but then cut himself off. He took a deep breath before continuing. "C-coffee. B-bl-bl-black. Please."

His stutter was worsening. It seemed like more people were looking at him. A pair of people, a woman with red streaks in her hair and a man. His eyes widened. They were looking at him. He looked away, jerking his head quickly towards the exit. He could leave and never come back. Get up, get out. His gaze swept the back and his eyes locked on a man folding a napkin into different shapes. Odd.

A new voice came up, "And I would like a coffee, two creams please." The voice from the phone the other day. Mack looked across the table as the man sat down.

"M-m-mr..."

"Mr. Silverston, yes, Macky." Mack frowned at the nickname, before frowning some more at Jerry Silverston. Silverston was his family's old lawyer, before Mack's parents hired a new one. "Y-y-y..."

Mr. Silverston smiled, "Yes, I am selling the graphene. I'm not just a lawyer. I dabble in business on the side. How are you?"

Jerry Silverston was also Mack's mentor and father-figure. "I'm...g-good."

Mack's stutter was lessening in the presence of someone familiar. The short, blonde hair, and the crisp, fine business suit. "Good. Now, before we get onto business, I want to ask you a question. Why do you want so much grapheme?"

"Y-y-y-y...know why..." Mack stuttered, "the-the...s-s-s-suit."

Now Silversto's eyes widened. "The...the suit? That crackpot plan to- You can do it, can't you?"

"O-of c-course," on the inside Mack was smug with Silverston's surprise, but on the outside, not so much. "Th-th-the...g-g-g-graphene will b-be o-o-on the inside of the h-h-helm-helm-helmet."

The lawyer raised an eyebrow, "Just the inside of the helmet? You're buying so much. Is that it?"

Mack quickly shook his head, "Of c-c-course n-n-not-not."

Silverston nodded before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a card. "This is where you will pay and pick up the material. Two days from now, five pm."

The lawyer placed the card on the table and then left. He left before his coffee came, and left Mack to pay. "Wh-wh-wh..."

What a dick, Mack finished his thought off.

The vibe at the Med Station was energetic and contagious. The long 12 hour shift was riddled with heart attacks, car accidents, gun shots and weird abductions, that whispered links back to the Contingency. Azzy reached the end of her 3 day work week, exhausted, yet famish, she was swayed to go the local hangout, Wrangell's diner, the EMT's called it W-D.

The diner was part of Starkfield's history. It lasted through the 70's where everything was BIG and loud from the hair, to the music. The 80's where nothing was off-limits, and drugs were all the rage. The 90's coined the "filler decade" where nothing remarkable happened. Now the 2000's, where times were different but the feeling remained dynamic, unique and interesting. Throughout the years, Wrangell's remained the hip hang out. Although it always had a stage, recently the owner bought the connecting building and knocked out the wall, enlarging the stage, dance floor and eating area. Where once there was a line to enter the diner, now one could walk in and have a seat. It was one of Azzy's favorite place to hang out.

The diner was crowded. In about an hour the local band Wolves Bite Back, would replace the chitter chatter with their unique style and groove. Azzy owns all their cds and knows the lyrics to all their songs. Azzy and her friends put together a large table in the back in front of the stage. As the group started sitting around the table Chase elbowed his friend out of the way so he could sit next to Azzy. Chase and Azzy had an interesting relationship.

Everyone has a partner in crime, and Chase was Azzy's. They met while rookie EMTS. Chase was the practical joker and Azzy the thrill seeker, together they reeked havoc on their classmates and instructors. Graduating top of their class they could pick any Med Station, but choose one that would take them both. Azzy and Chase did everything together.

Once they got lost hiking in the Oregon National Forest. Unprepared for this reality they agreed to wait out the night at their make shift camp. So by the light of the moon, the shadows began to perform their illusions, creating a game for Chase and Azzy. They laughed into the wee hours of the night, until the Sandman took over. Chase woke first, the sound of the pack was distinct and close. He gently nudged Azzy with his finger vertically in front of his lips. She woke and in one silent motion she got on her feet. The pack was circling their make shift camp. Before they could formulate a plan, one of the wolves attacked Chase from behind, flinging him to the ground. Chase pulled his knife from his calf holster and slashed the first wolf's side. Azzy kicked another but the large wolf was more than half her weight and it barely pushed him away. At the same time, two wolves were on Chase and the gnashing of teeth and tearing of his clothes was more than Azzy could stand and she grabbed a stick, while kicking again at the same wolf, and she focused her angry on the sticks and yelled as the venomous snakes attacked the wolves. The pack ran off yelping and in pain. Chase and Azzy laid on the ground breathless, while Azzy cradled her burnt hand. The silence between them was finally broken, when Chase gasped, "You are an extra-normal?" Azzy rolled over and looked him straight in the eyes, 'Yes"..............

Grabbing Chase's leg under the table, Chase lean towards her, while she whispers, "Look at the man with the brown wild hair and lab coat. He makes me a little nervous." Chase look in the direction that Azzy nodded. " Contingency?" "I don't know." Want to leave?" No."

The moment he began to speak, the idea of him being a druggie only came to a solid conclusion within Shiloh’s mind and she couldn’t help but give him a small scowl underneath her fake smile. Druggies shouldn’t be doing their business here- it may hinder any chances of other customers to approach her area which meant low tips. Nonetheless, Shiloh maintained her smile and wrote down his order and spun on her heels, about to leave for the kitchen when another man slid into the booth.
"And I would like a coffee, two creams please."

She eyed him for a moment before writing that down as well. The first thing that popped in her mind was that the drug dealer seemed pretty successful- the second was the possibility that the man who sat down was an undercover cop. Suddenly, scenes from the detective show her and Mumpy once watched popped in her head and she couldn’t help but to slightly giggle at the idea of it all when she entered the kitchen, paying no mind to the conversation she had left behind. Shiloh poured the coffee into the cups, putting one of them underneath the cream-machine.

She bit her lip slowly as she placed the dull white cups on the platter, money now filling her head. In all honesty, Shiloh didn’t want to drop out- especially when she was so close to finishing the semester. If she so happened to pick up another job, she wouldn’t have times for classes and Mumpy would become furious with her as he always detested her whenever she refused to rely on him. Shiloh pushed the door open with her back, her golden eyes catching the back of Mumpy as he served a table with a bright smile. They instantly shot back into the dark pools of hot liquids.

Mumpy was what one would call an ‘experimental creation’ and as much as she hated the fact that one would even call Mumpy that, she couldn't deny the simple fact that he was indeed her first creation. He was also the first creation of which lived this long. She wasn’t sure how long he’d continue to live nor did she know how long it would be before he would suddenly disappear. This realization came to Shiloh when her last creation suddenly died out of nowhere. After two full years of being with Shiloh and Mumpy, it just unexpectedly turned to dust within a blink of an eye and to make things worse, the creation was much smaller than Mumpy which meant it held more power than him.

The entire incident also made Shiloh realize that Mumpy may not be around forever- especially considering the fact that he had long since cut his chain, the one thing that linked Shiloh’s energy with his. Whether she liked it or not, Shiloh had to face the fact that Mumpy may not be here in another twenty of so years (perhaps less) and while that fact scared her shitless, she knew she must become independent enough to survive on her own. If she was unable to pay her way through school or even pay full rent at the moment, how the hell was she going to survive without him?

Feeling great disdain for such thoughts, Shiloh did her best to disregard them and returned to her usual self. Her eyes now open and scanning her section for any new faces that may have wondered in since she had entered the kitchen. It was the face of an unusually- and uncomfortably- attractive man that had her stare at him for several moments as she neared the assumed druggie. Her golden eyes seemed to examine him carefully but they turned their attention back towards the jittery scientist when she got to his table, realizing that his buddy was no longer there.

“I apologize about the wait sir,” She placed the platter onto the table and gave him his coffee while placed the missing man’s coffee on the opposite end where he had originally sat. “Will that be all for tonight?” Shiloh stood up and gave him a smile, finding her eyes wondering over towards the man who was now doing origami with his napkins. That was never a good sign to Shiloh as it was a sign to her that he was getting impatient and impatient customers never left decent tips. Nonetheless, she kept her main focus on the man in front of her, looking over to the empty seat. “Perhaps your friend left?”

The golden eyed waitress passed by the EMT's table, on her way back to the kitchen. Coby, a boorish immature man-child hooted,"Hey beautiful, I'm ready when you are?" The double meaning did not go unnoticed, especially after Azrael threw her fork. "Coby stop being an asshole." As Shiloh passed by with a coffee cup in each hand, Azzy whispered, "sorry." She nodded and smile, while walking swiftly back to the guy in the lab coat, who was now sitting alone. Azzy and Shiloh were beyond first name bases, but their conversations were casual and never left the diner. Nevertheless, Azzy liked their interaction and frequent the diner just to chat with another woman, if only for a moment.

Azzy's eyes followed Shiloh, she noticed the interaction between her and the guy in the lab coat seemed tense and unnatural.
"You're staring" Chase nudged her. As Azzy straighten to turn in her chair, a man in the shadows, by the back door, caught her attention. His table was cluttered with napkin swans, yet he got up and grabbed the napkins from underneath the silverware on the table next to him. Starting yet another origami swan, he was deep in thought and oblivious to everyone around him. "He is attractive, but odd, Mmmm still very attractive." There was something about him that Azzy could not pin point, like she might know him from some where. "Of course I met hundreds of people on my job, that must be it. "Are you ordering Az?" Chase's voice brought her attention back to the menu. "Yea, I am starving. Looks like it will be a minute before Shiloh can wait on our table, will your order my usual? I am going to the ladies' room." With a scoot of the chair Azzy rose, tucked in her blouse and wander to the ladies' room.

The path to the ladies room took her by pass the swan man's table. He briefly looked up and their eyes locked, and at that moment the world stopped; her heart skipped a beat, there was only them in the room, eternity passed while she looked into his azure eyes. She stumbled as she drew her glance away, rushing, to hide in the lady's room from embarrassment. "What is wrong with you Azzy, snap out of it!" Taking a deep breath, Azzy peered at her reflection in the mirror; fingered combed her hair, applied lip balm and readjusted her bra.

Then a flash of déjà vu.... of those eyes......jolted her back to the summer of 2005. Azzy went to stay the summer with her aunt, in Chicago, while her mother found a stable job and housing. Chicago was gigantic compared to Starkfield, but that only prove to heightened Azzy's excitement. Her aunt's peacock blue cruiser, became Azzys escape to adventures. Early in the summer, among her many trips, Azzy had found a little pond off the beaten path. It all began, in that early June. It was a record breaking heat wave and the blazing sun had melted the city to a puddle of lava. Azzy leisurely peddled her way to that pond for a little dip. She carefully laid her polka dot dress, lace bra and panties, over a near by branch, and dove in. The water was cool and refreshing; washing the sweat from the day away and erasing the crankiness the heat brings with it. Azzy loved diving down as far as her lungs would let her and then swim quickly to the surface with deflated lungs, gasping for air. Over and over she did this until she got bored. Then she swam around on her back, listening to the muffled sounds of the birds overhead and underwater creatures. She loved the freedom of being nude in the water. unexpectedly she heard a muffled voice. She flipped from her back to an upright position, just in time to see a young man stealing her clothes. Azzy swam as fast as she could, but he was long gone, before she got to the bank. Azzy gave chase and hopped on her bike and ran him down and wrestle back her clothing, forgetting all the while she was naked. It was then that it started, their summer love affair.

Realizing who the swan man was Azzy gasped, putting her hand over her mouth, while tears welled up in her eyes. Nathan...Nathan Knight. After trying to collect herself for several minutes, she left her hideout and approached the swan man. "I can't believe it's you, Nathan. It is me Azrael!" At first he looked confused, then a smile swept across his face..........

Nathan noiced a rather nervous guy in a lab coat in the corner. He wondered if he was nervous because of him, and if he was apart of the Contingency. But he continued folding birds out of napkins, keeping a eye on the man. If he is apart of the Contingency then he'd have to make the first move. At this point he was on his twelve swan, and surely looks like an escape mental patient. But then it happened. He looked up for a moment as he thought the waitress was coming to take his order, but it was a familiar face instead.

They stared into each other's eyes for but a moment but it felt like a lifetime. His heart stopped, and he dropped the swan he was working on. He'd recognize those eyes anywhere. No doubt about it, it was Azazel Lewis, his first love. He sat there dumbfounded, he knew she was from Starkfield but he thought that she'd be somewhere else by now. She was always quite adventurous and he was so sure that she'd move out of this town. But here she was. Nathan felt a mix of emotions, happiness, fear, anxiously were just a few.

He was about to say something but she ran into the ladies bathroom before he had a chance. Nathan regained his breath, and his heart began beating out of his chest. 'What do I do? Oh god what if she's angry? What if she's married or something? I...should jump out the window! Yeah, I could dive out and be on my bike and out of here in 30 seconds!' Nathan pondered the different opinions. He had no clue why he was acting this way. He has fond memories of her.

As with all things he remembered the moment he met her perfectly. It was the summer time , and a few months before everything in his life went to hell thanks to the Contingency. He and a couple friends were trying to beat the heat at a pond they always sneak off to. It was so miserably hot that he couldn't even wear a shirt. One of how friends, Austin, went to go take a leak when he apparently found some girl skinny-dipping. Austin ever the prankster took her clothes and ran off. The girl of course chased him, and wrestled him to the ground.

Nathan heard all the commotion, and took it upon himself to check it out. He saw the two wrestling, and instantly knew what was going on, this wasn't the first time such things happened. Austin managed to wiggle his way from the girl, and started to run off. Nathan sighed, and picked up a stick. As he ran off, Nathan threw the stick, and it tripped Austin. "Dammit Austin! How many times have we told you to stop being a perv!?" Nathan yelled as he picked him up by his shirt collar. Austin started to open his mouth but was cut off. "Not a word! Get out of here before I kick your ass myself! Nathan growled as he took the clothes from him, and shoved him forward.

When Austin left, Nathan started to turn to face the naked girl, but stopped, as he figured she was embarrassed enough. "I'm sorry about Austin. I'm 85 percent sure he was dropped on his head as a baby. He's a idiot, but harmless. He'd probably throw your clothes in the bushes after giving you a little chase." Nathan apologized as he handed her back her clothes. She took the clothes, and starting getting dressed. Though he was trying to look away, he couldn't help himself from taking a quick peek. He was a high school boy after all.

"Name's Nathan, Nathan Knight. You can call me Nate or Nathan, it doesn't matter to me. I guess I'm your knight in shining armor." Nathan introduced himself as he turned to face her fully dressed. He was caught a little off guard, he hadn't noticed how beautiful she was. "I...uh...should make it up to you. Me and my less stupid friends got a little camp spot, we've hot dogs, marshmallows, and some cold pops. Nathan said, blushing somewhat. "Come on, I'm not taking no for an answer." He said said as he grabbed her arm, and dragged her towards the others whether she liked it or not. "Nice underwear by the way." He playfully teased.

He took her to their small campsite where Austin, along with a rather muscular guy named Josh, and his girlfriend, a blonde named Savannah. "What the hell's going on brainiac?" Josh asked. Josh was the jock of the group, being the star football player of their school, while Nathan was the brains thanks to his then unknown powers. "You know, Austin just being a asshole." Nathan said as he roughed up Austin's hair as he sat on a red cooler. Nathan yanked him off the cooler, and opened it up. While it may seem that Nathan's a little too rough with Austin, but they're all close like siblings, and generally treat each other as such. He took out a ice cold coke, and tossed it to the girl.

Nathan was then snapped back to the present as he saw Azrael come out of the bathroom, and towards him. 'Oh god she's here! Think dammit! I don't think I've given the diving out a window plan enough thought yet. Dammit Nate! You're a sword wielding, renegade badass! You can handle one, incredibly beautiful girl.' She then came over greeted herself. He got out of his chair, and stood up , a instinctual smile crept across his face. Despite his nervousness he was genuinely happy to see her, as anyone would be to the first person they've loved.

He wanted to hug her, and started to reach in for such, but that'd probably make things more awkward. "Hey Azzy, it's been awhile. You....look good." That was the only thing he could think to say. He looked her up, and down, she was still as gorgeous as when he first laid eyes on her. He stared into her eyes, eyes that he would just get lost in. "Love is an endless mystery, for it has nothing else to explain it." He said not even realizing what he said. He had read that somewhere, and it just popped into his mind. "And I made things more awkward huh?"

"I apologize about the wait sir," the waitress said when she came back with Mack's cup of coffee.

It was then, that Mack finally and truly noticed the waitress. Now that business was finished, Mack could observe with a calmer head. Of course, this did not mean that Mack was calm because he wasn't. He was still terrified. "Will that be all for tonight?" the waitress continued.

Her smile looked force, like she was trying to hard to be nice. But being nice usually meant...what do people who work in restaurants want? Tips. The waitress was trying to hard for tips. "N-n-n-no...it w-w-wo-wo...won't...I'll b-b-b-be st-st-stay-staying. I would...like the special...p-p-please."

Wait, why was he staying? Mack couldn't understand why he had said that, it just flew out of his mouth. Maybe it was to see if his fears were unfounded, or maybe because he felt bad for the waitress. Mack shouldn't have ordered the special. He probably didn't even like the special. What was the special again?

But before Mack could cancel his order, the waitress kept on asking questions, "Perhaps your friend left?"

Mack frowned. Silverston left before he could drink his coffee. He might have had other things to attend to, but if he did he shouldn't have ordered the coffee. "Mr. S-s-silverston isn't...c-c-com-com-com-coming b-b-b-b-back."

And Mack could tell that the waitress was nervous. Most likely about him because Mack did look quite sketchy. So, dropping the last name Silverston was a sure way of telling anyone that the business that Mack was dealing with was clean. Well, at least mostly clean. Most business men do not follow all of the rules.

And then Mack realized that he missed his chance to cancel his order. Damn, now he had to stay and not look rude. But now there was an even higher chance of him dying. Damn!

Nate's comment, caused Azzy to blush a deep scarlet, enhancing her freckles, and leaving her stammering, "Awkward, nah, OK YES, but ...oh my gosh I can't believe it is you." She wanted to lean in for a hug, but the table seemed like the Atlantic. She quickly glanced over at her friends, who were laughing, ordering and listen to a tall tale Chase was acting out. “I have minute or a life time” Wiggling herself between the table and the wall; she shuffled to the backside, practically lunging herself at Nate in a hug that lasted longer then it should. She embraced him tightly, his arms were muscular, comfortable, her home. As they slowly released each other; their faces were extremely close, she could feel his breath on her face, her chest rose and fell with anticipation. Nate placed his hand in the small of her back and drew her closer; their noses slightly touching, Azzy bent her head to the side, slowly closing her eyes, as Nate brush across her cheek and whispered in her ear, “ I have missed you Azrael Lewis." He kissed her forehead, took her hand, as they sat cuddled like teenagers.

There was much to say, but they lingered in silence, taking in their moment together. Meanwhile, Azzy grew nauseous, as the hurt from her past resurfaced. Azzy squeezed Nate's hand tighter; putting her other hand over his, breaking the silence, with her many questions and thoughts. “Nathan, when I left it was not over for me! I wrote and called you everyday for 6 months but, you never responded back. Every time I heard a motorcycle I'd run to the street, then die just a little when it wasn't you. I cried myself to sleep every night that fall. You were my first date, my first kiss, my first love and my first lover. Don't you get it? NO man has ever measured up to you. Was I just a summer fling for you? Did you ever really love me? Was it over for you?

Swept up in the moment, Nathan warmly embraced Azzy. He was amazed with how much she was same. As he leaned in to whisper in her ear he caught the sweet scent of her hair, and it was the same as he remembered. It's amazing how strong olfactory senses are tied to memories. When she started to pull back to release, he pulled her in closer, as he wasn't ready to let go. This has been the first human contact he's had that doesn't involve swords in awhile, and he's going to savor it for as long as possible. "I've missed you Azrael Lewis." He whispered softly in her ear before moving up to kiss her forehead. "More then you'll ever know." He added as he took her hand within his.

But then it happened. She squeezed his hand tightly, and began asking almost ten years worth of built up questions, releasing years of pint up hurt. "You mean...you hadn't heard?" He asked with a confused look as he released from their embrace. He looked down at the floor, unable to look her in the eye. "Sometime after you left....there was a botched home invasion. And...ah...Mom and Dad..." This was the story that he told the cops, and everyone else. He didn't want to tell her the truth about the Contingency, or any of that stuff, he doesn't want to drag her into it. "After their funeral I dropped out of school, and ran away from Chicago. Too many ghosts you know? I've been bumming around ever since.

Nathan continued to look down on the floor as he began thinking about all the things he's down since then. "I'm sorry. You weren't just some fling. I....I've always cared about you." He said as he finally got up the nerve to look her in the eye.

Azzy was an EMT that often came with her crew to eat at the diner. She was a nice girl who often gave Shiloh some decent tips so the woman was deemed a perfect customer in Shiloh’s book even if her friends often pigged around. Despite her liking towards Azzy, Mumpy detested her completely; similar to how detests anyone with a powering ability. Mumpy would constantly lecture Shiloh about how she shouldn’t become friends with such people because they’d only bring them more trouble than what it was worth. Of course, while Shiloh paid mind to his warning, she never followed through on his heeding considering that Shiloh herself was a power user and Mumpy was her creation.

She was so lost in thought before that she completely missed the entire scene with Azzy and her friends, not realizing that they had spoken to Shiloh until she’d already passed their table and sat the coffee down in front of Mr. Jitter-box here. Although before Shiloh could even respond or think about apologize, the man in the lab coat began to answer her earlier question on what else he’d like.
"N-n-n-no...it w-w-wo-wo...won't...I'll b-b-b-be st-st-stay-staying. I would...like the special...p-p-please."
Perfect, the man was actually ordering. Although it’d be great all together if he didn’t stutter all that much but Shiloh merely shrugged it off.

This time, Shiloh’s smile wasn’t forced as she seemed happy that may actually get somewhat of a tip (though, doubt still lingered in the back of her mind on the man).
"Mr. S-s-silverston isn't...c-c-com-com-com-coming b-b-b-b-back."
Shiloh looked over at him, golden eyes looking him over before shooting towards the filled coffee. Mr. Silerston didn’t seem like a dangerous name nor did it seem like a name a drug dealer would have although Shiloh doubted it would be anything she’d think a drug dealer’s name would be. Hell, the first thing that popped in her mind was some heavy man with some Italian name. Once more, she focused herself on the customer, giving him a light smile.

“That’s alright then,” Her waitress smile was back as she grabbed the coffee cup. “He will just miss out on the delicious food.” She gave him another small smile as she placed the cup on the platter once more. “So one special and that’s it, correct?”

Azzy felt selfish. For the last 10 years she wavered between Nate being a jerk and look what he missed out on. Never in a million years would she of guessed the tragedy he had endured. She wish she could have shared in his grief, been his comfort. " I am so sorry Nathan, your parents were always so kind to me. I had no idea."

Nathan's head was down, Azzy was embarrass she said anything. Then he looked up "I'm sorry. You weren't just some fling. I....I've always cared about you."Relief swept over her face, she leaned in, hugged him, whispered, "I am..have missed you with all my heart. I never stopped caring for you either." The moment was interrupted by a text ring that was uniquely Chases. I am sorry, I need to get this.

Text:From Chase
Get it while it's hot!

Azzy looked up, the orders were being passed among the EMTs. Chase turned towards her, teasingly mimics eating her burger. Azzy shrugged.

Text: From Azzy
Go ahead I am not hungry anymore.

Text: From Chase
I see....who is the James Dean look alike?

Text: From Azzy
I'll explain later.

Text: From Chase
He's the one, isn't he?

Text: From Azzy
yes

Then Chase turned around. She could tell from his slumped shoulders that he was hurt. Azzy felt bad, but could not let this moment escape her. She turned to Nate and they started filling in all the blanks of the last 10 years.
