History:
Jacqueline was born to one half of the pure line of Ayers, and the other half to the pure line of Levaeu's, making her a very powerful witch at a young age, being a direct descendant of Voodoo Queen, Marie Lavaeu. From the tender age of 2, Jacqueline was able to enter the dreams of her parents and alter them in whatever way she so wished, that made them believed they gave birth to Marie's reincarnation.

When Jacqueline was a mere ten years old, during a late outing with her father, she dozed off in the backseat and unfortunately her father dozed in the front. Jacqueline was pulled into his dream and was unable to pull herself out of the dream and wake her him before the car veered and hit a guardrail and jackknifed, killing her father instantly and injuring Jacqueline.

Afterwards, Jacqueline's mother, full of grief, moved her and her daughter in with her sister, Jadus. Where Jacqueline met her cousin of the same age, River. The two became close, like sisters however while River found Science, Jaqcueline found and immersed herself in magic, in hopes of controlling her strange and frightening ability.

By Highschool, Jacqueline was a proud witch, wearing it on her like a pin, she didn't care for designer clothes, or the hottest music or the newest technology. All She cared for, all she was interested in was magic and controlling it. She was dubbed by her classmates as the Voodoo Queen, not knowing she was actually blood relative to the Voodoo Queen.

She never gained much more control of her dreamwalking. She learned that should could control what the dreamer dreamt and thus how to wake them up, though each person is different however she couldn't and still can't stop herself from being yanked into their dreams so when she moved out, she found herself self a small place in the Bayou where she can get rest, however she works in the French Quarter, where she helps run a small herb and spices shoppe that her mother owns.

Theme Song

Witch Queen of New Orleans || Redbone

Marie, Marie, da voodoo veau, she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie, da voodoo veau, she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie, da voodoo veau
She's the witch queen of New Orleans, of New Orleans

I'm gonna tell you a story, strange as it now seems
Of zombie voodoo gris gris and the Witch Queen of New Orleans
She lived in a world of magic, possessed by the devils skew
From a shack near the swamplands made of mud-pile brick
Marie stirred her witches brew

Marie, Marie, da voodoo veau, she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie, da voodoo veau, she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie, da voodoo veau
She's the Witch Queen of New Orleans, of New Orleans

Dime or a nickel, anyone could buy voodoo of any kind
She had potions and lotions, herbs and tanna leaves
Guaranteed to blow your mind
Early one mornin' into mucky swamp dew, vanished Marie with hate in her eyes
Though she'll never return, all the Cajuns knew, a Witch Queen never dies

Marie, Marie, da voodoo veau, she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie, da voodoo veau, she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie, da voodoo ve veau
She's the witch queen of New Orleans, of New Orleans

Marie, Marie, da voodoo veau, she'll put a spell on you
Marie, Marie, da voodoo veau, she'll put a spell on...

So begins...

"Dz'at is not going to 'appen." Jacqueline said, her lips pressed into a thin line with her head cocked at an angle whilst looking down at a young girl no older then 14. Image

"What happens to the customer is always right?"

"It goes out dz'e window w'en dz'e girl is but fourteen."

"Please, It work for -"
Jacqueline held up a hand, with a roll of her amber eyes.

"Let me stop you dz'ere. It worked for your mo'dzer because your fa'dzer was cheating on 'er. It is not a love potion. It is for attraction. Beside dz'e very simple fact dz'at your are much too young. 'ave you even 'ad your period yet?"

The girl's eyes widened. "What?"

"Dz'at is 'ow it works. To make a man 'fall in love' as you believe. A woman must put 'er menstrual blood into a man's coffee. Or Spaghetti and 'ave 'im drink it. Every last drop." The French woman explained nonchalantly.

The girl's grew wider. "That's gross."

"Indeed. But it is not love. It causes only attraction. Your parents were in love once. Your fa'dzer lost interest. Dz'at's life." Jacqueline said and walked back behind the counter of her small spice and herb shoppe' Most of the witches and warlocks around here practiced openly, using it as a selling point because they were in New Orleans. Some people even donned fake accents to add to the facade. Jacqueline was not one of them. She loved being what she was, she had no problem with showing it off either but she never used magic as a tourist attraction, plus her accent was real.

She is the great x7 granddaughter of Marie Leveau, the Voodoo Queen of New Orleans and while she could use that to her advantage, she wouldn't disrespect her heritage that way.

"So my mom really did that?"

"Evidently." Jacqueline shrugged and the girl sighed, looking down. She was a pretty little thing, black hair with big brown eyes. Jacqueline sighed. "You know, Mon'chere. You don' need magic to make someone love you." She said softly. The girl just played with one of the herbs that hung around the store, giving the place a thick herbal aroma.

"I'm just sick of everyone around me getting boyfriends and falling in love, and no one even looks at me."

Jacqueline nodded. She couldn't relate persay, she was exotic looking, she had long dark curly hair, olive skin that was a soft tan on during the summer, dark lashes that made her amber eyes glow with a somewhat supernatural shimmer and a body to boot. She got alot of attention, mostly unwanted but the girl reminded her of someone.

"Don' let dz'at bo'dzer you. You are beautiful, and dz'e reason you can't find love is because you are looking for it. Let find you and it will be real and true." Jacqueline told her and the girl smiled.

"Now, 'urry 'ome'," She said wkth a shush of her two hands, her many bangles jingling as she moved.

The girl giggled a bit and navigated through the throngs of hanging herbs and with a wave, she pushed the door with large golden lettering that read "Ayers Exotic Spices and Herbs."

"Mon'chere!" Jacqueline called.

"Yeah?"

"W'at I told you. If you try it, and dz'e boy does not already love you. 'e will become obsessive and dangerous to you and dz'ose around you. Magic is a tricky dz'ing."

The girl was on pause. Jacqueline knew she was still going to do it. Or she was until just now.

Hopefully she wouldn't wake up to the news that a 14 year old was murder by her jealous boyfriend, who then killed himself.

That was not something she wanted to relive.

Magic taught very harsh lesson about it's misuse.

The girl slowly walked out of the door, ringing the little bell with a somber expression.

Jacqueline couldn't help but smile. Crisis averted.

With that in mind, she decided she'd close up early today. It wasn't tourist season, she wasn't really busy. So she decided to call up her quirky cousin, River.
[To:Riv<3]
[Where are you, I was waiting for over an hour!"] She texted as she cleared the counter, idly watching the passerbys outside.

They had no plans today but she just like to mess with her a bit. They were practically sisters.

She then grabbed her shaw, and wrapped it around her body, and closed the door to the shoppe, locking it up tight.

As Jacqueline began her walk down the street, a flyer blew up against her leg. She reached down and gave it a once over.

"Come & find God here at Saint Anthony's Cathedral.
We offer salvation for the weary of spirit.
The Devil is everywhere,
there is shelter behind the Lord's doors."

Jacqueline rolled her eyes

"Of course.." She said, balling up the paper and tossing it into one of the iron rot trash bins on the side of the street.

Mardi Gras was soon, a day where men reveled in sin. Gluttony and Lust.

Of course, The devil now was to blame, as was with all things the church did not like nor understood.
According to the church, she was the devil's whore and voodoo and all magic was the work of the devil.

She hated it. Magic was only given a bad name once Christianity became the governing religion. Anything else was blasphemy and or heresy, especially if it contradicted the church. Whether magic was dark or not, was entirely up to the user itself, Magic it self was neither good or bad, it just exists.

She took a breath and continued her walk.

It was then she noticed a man ball up the same flyer and toss it on the ground. She agreed it needed to be throw away but not on the ground. He was handsome, reeked of alcohol and cigarettes.

"You should realy pick dz'at up, Messiuer, Littering, is in fact a crime, 'owever small." She said as she walked by and noticed something about this man, that stopped her dead in her tracks.

She reached out her hand, grabbed his wrist and turned over his hand.

Image"Ghede Nibo?" She breathed. She could feel it, floating about him. Spirits of the dead. This man was not normal, and the star on his palm, proved as such and just by looking at him, his black coat, the unmistakable smell of alcohol and tabacoo.

Confused by this. Jacqueline didn't know where to start.

"Who are you?"

Image Bane stopped dead in his tracks as the woman began to address him about littering. He pulls the cigarette from his mouth as he turns to look at the source of whomever it was asking him to pick up his trash.

"Look Lady I- .. " He begins to say but stops immediately out of confusion as the pretty young woman would take his hand and look over his wrist. Either not yet awake enough or enticed by the young woman enough to not pull back his hand he lets her continue looking it over. She must be one of those hokey 'palm readers' you'd find on every other street corner around here. Then again, you don't walk ten feet in this city without tripping over another person who claims they can tell your future or sell you a end-all-cure-all to fix your impedance, your cold, your heart disease, cures cancer and bad fortune, 90% of which was fake, so Bane didn't really care enough to try and stop any of that nonsense. As she begins to speak of this 'Ghede Nibo' character, Bane sighs shaking his head back and forth.

" Look, Lady... I don't know ... or at least remember if.. I know you- but my name most defiantly not 'Gheed Nibow' or whatever.. and if I told you it was last night or something, I'm sorry.. I was ... far to drunk to talking in my right mind- So... " He says as he begins to pull back his hand. " If you don't mind... " He pauses, just now hearing that she asked him a question.

" Wait... So.. Then we haven't already met? " He asks before taking another draw from his cigarette. " You can call me Marcus Bane or Mark- but if we haven't already met, I ain't looking to buy anything so I'll just be on my way. " He says as he begins to step around the young woman.

"Look, Lady...I don't know....or at least remember if...I know you-but my name is definitely not,'Gheed Nibow' or whatever...and if I told you it was last night or something, I'm sorry...I was...far to drunk to be talking in my right mind-So"

The man said as he pulled his hand away. Jacqueline pressed her lips together with a frown. He could most definitely be Ghede Nibo.

Ghede Nibo often took the form of those who died young and violently.

She could feel his connection to the Otherside, and it was evident he was no stranger to modern vices.

"Wait...So then we haven't already met?"

"Not in dz'is life." Jacqueline commented as he took a drag from his cigarette.

"You can call me Marcus Bane or Mark- but if we haven't already met, I ain't looking to buy anything so I'll just be on my way." He said and stepped around her.

" I am Jacqueline Levau-Ayer and I don' want to you to buy anydz'ing, Messuier Ma'cus," She said, her accent making the 'r' in his sound more like 'rgar'. "And drunk or not, You would remember me." She said with a smirk turning only her head.

She was a flirt but this was more of a test then anything else. Ghede Nibo was notorious for making his vessels... lost their inhibitions.

Image"One would dz'ink dz'at someone w'o was so close to Death's door, wouldn't be so eager to return but you couldn't 'elp yourself could you, Messiuer?" She said, turning to him fully now. Her head cocked some in that way she does when she knows she's right about something.

"You can not resist your urges." She said, her voice smooth as silk. "Any of dz'em..."

He stopped in his tracks, turning back to look the girl over again. She was being flirtatious, he could tell that much, she was cute, but perhaps a bit young... then again- when had that stopped him before... but, he didn't believe for even a second she wasn't trying to sell him SOMETHING. Fake hoodoo, bad tarot card re-prints, a monthly prescription to 'People' Magazine there was always something to sell and someone to buy it. However she had the luck of catching his interest if even for just the moment, so he would hear her out to the 'pitch'.

"One would dz'ink dz'at someone w'o was so close to Death's door, wouldn't be so eager to return but you couldn't 'elp yourself could you, Messiuer?" She said, turning to him fully now. Her head cocked some in that way she does when she knows she's right about something.

He takes another drag off his cigarette before dropping it on the ground and stamping it out. His eyes only leaving her long enough to make sure his foot met its target. She had just made things interesting... There were only a couple of ways she could have known about his 'near death' experience. Either one, she had read the papers shortly after his 'near death' experience, unlikely due to the fact that was nearly 11 years ago and what would have made her like... what.. 12 or 13 at the time?.. or two, she was no 'run of the mill' palm reader looking to make a quick buck in the street of New Orleans... She was something more... a Witch... and that would make her his business.

Image "You can not resist your urges." She said, her voice smooth as silk. "Any of dz'em..."

Bane stepped up closer to the woman, so close in fact, he left only a few inches between the two of them. His eyes locked on hers, giving one a sense that he was about to let one of those 'urges' control him like she had mentioned before. He stands before her for what feels be an eternity before he slowly smirks, the closest thing to a smile seen on his face since they had began talking. His eyes dart away to look over her body for a second, before returning to once again lock back with hers.

" I control... some of them. " He says as the smirk slowly turns into a grin. " The real question is why should I? " The words leaving his lips as he takes a couple steps back, leaving the two of them with more space. "What.. did you say your name was again?" He asks, honestly not having payed enough attention to catch it the first time.

Jacqueline watched as Marcus stepped up to her, close enough to make anyone uncomfortable but not Jacqueline. She just watched him, with a thin lipped smirk as a slow one appeared on his face. He was handsome enough that should he let himself, it wouldn't be such a raw deal. She got chills as his eyes scanned her body before reaching hers again.
Image
"I control...some of them," He said, grinning now.

"Not for very long." She retorted, slyly.

"The real question is, why should I?'

He said and took a few steps back, allowing her her personal space. Had he not smelled like a bar's ashtry, it would have been quite pleasant.

Jacqueline gave a small huff of a laugh, "In some cases, Messuier, You wouldn't 'ave to." She said, placing a hand on her hip.

"What...did you say your name was again?" He asked and Jacqueline arched a pencil thin eyebrow.

"Jacqueline." She said shortly.

"So it's true dz'en. You died, and made a miraculous recovery and w'ere most people would find God, or join a gym. You picked up a cigarette and a bottle of rum." She said. It was almost frightening how much he was like Ghede Nibo. Never before had she come across such a powerful deity before. She would need to bring this up later to the Coven leaders, during their next meeting.

"Come wit' me. You need to see somedz'ing." She told him and with that, she took his hand and turned, not really giving him a choice in the matter, as she dragged him along to the shoppe she just closed up. Their hands hanging just above her backside as if this was a shared secret of theirs.

He probably expected some sort of neon sign with a hand and the all seeing eye in the palm but no, all he would see was a small shoppe with exotic spices in jars and drying herbs hanging from the ceiling.

" I need you to tell me 'ow it 'appened, Messiuer." She said as she pushed open the door. Not the door wasn't locked because it was unassuming, that and it had a protection spell cast over it.

"Watch your step," She told him as they passed the threshold. A small white line lay in the doorway. Jacqueline stepped over easily, however she was slightly concerned if Marcus when tried to step over it, and it stopped him. He could be a very a Ghede but he may be Ghede Loa. That would not be good.

Salt kept Evil on the outside, if he couldn't cross then...

She let go of his hand and beckoned him over with a wave.

"Come," she said with a soft inviting smile.

"So it's true dz'en. You died, and made a miraculous recovery and w'ere most people would find God, or join a gym. You picked up a cigarette and a bottle of rum." She said. Bane shrugged, the statement wasn't completely untrue.

" Well... I wasn't exactly a stranger to either habit from before the event, ... and I wasn't completely without 'revelation'. " He says as he rubs the mark on his wrist. She had put things together about him, but he had no idea how much of it was fact or fiction.

"Come wit' me. You need to see somedz'ing." She told him as she grabbed his hand, dragging him along. He wasn't in a fighting mood, not that he was sure she would really give him much of a choice. Following the girl down the French Quarter street, bane wasn't all that shocked as they arrived at a shop, although a rather simple one it might have been compared to many of the other 'voodoo' and 'hoodoo' shops one would find lining the street. Perhaps she really is a witch, but she still had something to sell... everyone does.

" I need you to tell me 'ow it 'appened, Messiuer." She said as she pushed open the door. "Watch your step," She told him as they passed the threshold.

He looked down at the thin salt line in the entrance way, a common practice among witches, warlocks, and other supernatural beings of that like... especially when they feared someone or something. Simple yet effective ward... but not designed for the likes of him that much he was sure.

She let go of his hand and beckoned him over with a wave. "Come," she said with a soft inviting smile. Whatever she thought he was, she was worried he might not be able to make it through, he could tell that much. Slowly, he would set foot in through the doorway into the small shop, looking over the various herbs and relics hanging from shelves all around the room. Walking further in, he lets his gaze wounder around the room for a bit, before finally turning back to look over Jaqueline once again.

Image " There isn't a lot to tell.. " He says as his hands go into his jacket pocket. " I was Twenty-one at the time... and I stole from a woman.. " He says, stepping closer to the counter. " and she didn't take to kindly to that... so she shot me dead. "

Bane turns away from her to fiddle with a trinket sitting on the counter, still with one hand in his pocket. "By the time someone called the police and found me, they thought I was long dead... So close to it, so they say, that my pulse was so faint they thought it was none existent. They declared me dead right there. " He looks back up to here for only a moment. " They even put me in one of those body bags and hauled me off the the morgue... " His eyes return to looking over the rooms contents, as he keeps fiddling with something in his jacket pocket. " Wasn't till close to three hours later- while a priest was reading me my Commendation and farewell- did I suddenly wake up. Just out of the blue - gasping for air. They called it a 'miracle'.. a 'gift from god' a 'blessing' and every other thing you could think of to try and ignore the fact the damned EMTs couldn't do their job right... "

Jacqueline smiled some as he passed through the threshold easily. Atleast he was good.

She then stepped behind the counter as he approached it. She fumbled underneath the counter for a book while she listened as his told his tale.

Once he finished, she looked at him, with a sigh.

Shot and killed...It was uncanny.

Image"No, Mon'chere. You may dz'ink you survived, or want to believe dz'at but do you really believe EMT, and Mortican were wrong?" She asked him rhetorically. "It was a miracle, Mon'chere. Yes' But not dz'at you survived, but dz'at you died, and you came back." She told him, gently.

"Bringing parts of the Spirit realm wit' you." She told him and moved from the counter and walked over to him, placing the book down.

"I can feel it. I felt it the moment I passed you, for I too 'ave a similar connection....'owever limited." She said, mumbling that last part a bit.

"Dz'is birdz'mark proves you are not ordinary." She told him gently as she took his hand and ran her thumb softly over his mark. She knew what she could do to prove it to him, she had the book, but she needed something more personal.

Something he could see....

Something he could feel...

"When you sleep? What do you dream of?"

Image "I've never been a big fan of believing anything someone in uniform tells me." Bane says with a smirk, finally pulling the cigarette he had been playing with in his pocket out into the light. His free hand delving into his other pocket to retrieve his silver cased lighter, flipping it open and beginning to light the thing without even thinking to ask if such a thing was alright within her store. He takes a long first drawl off his cigarette, just like it was the first one he'd had all day.

He cracks a smile, the cigarette still in his mouth, as she takes his hand. Placing his other hand on top of hers, he pats it twice before pulling both of his hands back. He turns from her, walking away from the counter and towards the doorway he had just entered only a few moments ago. He puffs off his cigarette as he takes slow wide steps, with a slight chuckle under his breath as he does. Bane became silent as he reached the door, peering out the doors window to the street - the only sound coming from him is his breathing out smoke. His hand returns to the pocket which he pulled the cigarette from, continuing to 'play' with something inside.

Image " You know... " He says as he removes the cigarette from his mouth, turning his head back around to look at the beautiful young lady. "You aren't the first person to have made these kind of claims to me... I mean, the spirit thing is new, but... the whole 'died and came back' bit- yeah.. that I've heard before. " Bane turns his body completely around now, to face her, still standing in front of the door.

" The a- .... Crusaders of Christ.. I think they called themselves. They seamed pretty keyed in on my 'Resurrection'... and they uh- " He pulls the hand with the star marking out from his pocket, it how being entangled in a thin chain with a golden crucifix dangling from it's end. " Seemed might interested in this birthmark as well.. "

The hand holding his cigarette returns in to his mouth, his lips holding it in place, before disappearing behind his back. A Heavy thud can be heard, as he turns the deadbolt - locking the door. " Matter of fact... they had a WHOLE lot to say about people like... you. "

"You aren't the first person to have made these claims to me...I mean, the spirit thing is new, but the whole 'dead and came back'bit-yeah...that I've heard before." He explained turning to her. Jacqueline shrugged. "I'm sure,"

"The a-....Crusaders of Christ...I think they call themselves. They seemed pretty keyed in on my 'Resurrection,'...and they uh-"She watched as he pulled a crucifix on his necklace out of his pocket. Jacqueline rolled her eyes with huff. "Euh..."

"Seemed might interested in this birthmark as well." Jacqueline took a deep breath. "Of course..."

Suddenly, the deadbolt on the door clicked locked and Jacqueline gasped a little, her arms folding over her ample chest.

"Matter of fact....they had a WHOLE lot to say about people like...you."
Image
"I'm sure dz'ey did." She said, fear stiffening her back. How could she be so foolish, allowing a Crusader to enter her place of business.

"I'm sure, Dz'ey tend to fear wit' which dz'ey do not understand...."
She said as walked casually behind the counter and resting her hands on the book.

"You are on dz'e wrong side, Messiuer Bane." She told him, keeping her fear and nervousness from her face.

He lets out a short audible chuckle before puffing out smoke. His hand returning the crucifix to his pocket. "Fear is an understatement with them.. " He mumbles to himself.

She walked casually behind the counter and resting her hands on the book. "You are on dz'e wrong side, Messiuer Bane." She told him.

" am I now? " he says with a feigned shocked. " Because... I get the feeling that if most of the mass public knew ANYTHING about either of our 'sides' ... they might leans a bit more towards 'mine'. " He says as he walks towards the counter, his eyes leaving her only to briefly look over items on various shelves, as if making note of what he may need to use if it came to it.

"Then again- you've probably already put together that I'm not really a man who really cares much about anyone's opinion let alone the 'public's'.. " he says with an almost glare look on his face. As he reaches the counter- he leans forward so that his face is but a few inches from hers. " or the Crusaders... "

" I don't want to hurt you, Jacqueline. " Bane says, as he faces expressions lighting. " I want to do many things to you... but hurt you is not one of them. " He says as he eyes linger downward on her. " While the Crusaders would highly disagree with my methods, I only hunt down Witches who use their magic to hurt people... You have given me no reason to believe you'd hurt anyone.. and while you might be condoned to hell for your 'witchcraft' - My list of sins highly out rank your own. "

Image "Truth is... I think I may need your help, Jacqueline." He pulls back from her, taking a step back from the counter. Looking away from her as he lowers his head. "What I need to ask you to do, could never leave this room, because it would put both of us at risk... You with your Coven for helping a Crusader ... and Me with the Crusaders for seeking aid in a Witch.. "

"However... if I am to find this killer.. I'm running out of options." Raising the cigarette back up to his hand, he takes another long draw before exhaling a small cloud of smoke. " and time... "

"Am I now?" Bane said, mockingly. "Because...I get the feeling that if most of the mass public knew ANYTHING about either of our 'sides'...they might lean a bit more toward mine." He said walked toward the counter. Jacqueline watched him closely, her fingers wrapped around the book tightly. She didn't know what his game was but he didn't talk like them. He was different...that much she already figured out.

"But then again-you've probably already put it together, that I am not really a man who who really cares much about anyone's opinion, let alone the 'public's'... He stated, narrowing his eyes. He moved closer to the counter, leaned in and now was a few inches shy of her face. She didn't move. She kept her eyes on his, just in case...
"Or the Crusaders..." Image

Jacqueline frowned some, but her posture relaxed. "I don't want to hurt you, Jacqueline." He said, his expression softening. "I may want to do many things to you...but hurt you is not one of them," He said as his eyes wandered. Jacqueline scoffed a small laugh. "While the Crusaders would highly disagree with my methods. I only hunt down Witches who use magic to hurt people...You have given no reason to believe you'd hurt anyone...and while you might be condemned to Hell for your 'witchcraft'- My lists of sins highly out rank your own."

Jacqueline looked at him now. He was something. All in the same breath, he turned a yes, into a hell no, then into a maybe.

"Truth is....I think I may need your help, Jacqueline." He said, moving away, and again, Jacqueline just watched him.

"What I need to ask you to do, could never leave this room, because it puts us both at risk...You with your Coven for helping a Crusader...and Me with the Crusaders for seeking aid in a Witch..."
Jacqueline stepped from behind the counter, and approached him slowly.

"However...if I am to find this killer....I'm running out of options." He said and took a long drag of his cigarette before puffing out a cloud of smoke. "And time..."

Jacqueline walked up to him, watching his eyes for a moment before taking his hand and slowly removing the cigarette.

"Dz'is is not going to 'elp you. " She told him, pushing his hand down. "Not wit' your time anyway." She said. Image

"I will 'elp find dz'is killer. I believe you for some odd reason, but if you give me any reason to distrust you, Messiur Bane..."She said, her eyes flashing with a dangerous yet mischievous glare. "Witchcraft and Lust won't be my only sins." She told him and moved back behind the counter.

She waved a hand over the book she'd been holding on to. The pages fluttered as if blown by some concentrated wind and opened on to a blank page, which to untrained eye, it would look as if the book had already been filled to it's max yet the middle pages were completely blank.

"Now, tell me about dz'is killer?"

ImageJames Hawkens awoke that morning to a dull throbbing beating itself against the inner walls of his skull, and a bottle of bourbon, emptied of it's contents, resting against his hip. He moaned and rolled off of the couch, staggering forward as he rubbed at his sore throat and worked his fingers into the kink in his neck. "Shit. Next time contain yourself Jim, you're not Bane. You shouldn't have to deal with hangover's of this magnitude." He told himself, stumbling into the bathroom of the crappy little hole in the wall in which he was currently residing, taking the time to brush his teeth, but nearly gagging in the process, and decidedly not liking the fatigue that showed under his eyes in the dimly lit reflection of the grimy, scratched mirror. He decided not to bother to shave the five o' clock shadow forming across his jawline as he raked a calloused hand over the stubble, shrugging mentally because Hell, why should he?

Jim made a move to traverse to his bedroom, but stopped short after a few small steps, his stomach lurching at the sudden motion. He fell back against the wall and began to slide down."Oh, no you don't." He commanded himself, not finding it at all strange his monologue wasn't so inner at the present, and sounding less like a monologue and more like an argument. He yanked himself back up onto his feet, attempting to ignore his stomach's rebelling again. "We have to go out today," he explained to his organs. "Have. To. Get." He forced his steps into the bedroom where he could riffle through his drawers for suitable public clothing consisting of more than the cotton tee littered in stains and the boxers he was donned in currently. "To. Church." He panted, at last, making it to the dresser. Jim wasn't an alcoholic like his fellow Crusader Magnus was, he drank socially sometimes but never really got plastered, don't remember what happened last night, black out drunk. Last night was an exception though as it had been the anniversary of Daniel's death and though he was drinking alone, he made sure to drink enough for the both of them.

After a seemingly endless struggle against his own failing body, James managed to dress himself appropriately and make it outside, wincing at the harsh light of the morning hour. "Ah no." He hissed out between clenched teeth, shielding his eyes from the rays of sunshine that penetrated his beaten up pair of ray bans. The Crusader teetered down his stoop steps onto the side walk, feeling like a convict on his death march, the hangover his executioner, but he would make it. It was his duty to be in attendance every single day, Father Baldwin would expect it.

After walking for a few minutes in St. Anthony's direction, in the distance he spotted a familiar face, one that was suspiciously following a known voodoo priestess. Bane wasn't really at church unless there was a meeting or training session, so it was not surprise he didn't seem to be headed toward the cathedral, but it was a surprise to see him entering a witch shop. "You have got to be kidding me." He groaned, pushing his gait into a brisk lopping jog. His body recognized the fact that being a witch hunter came before personal comfort other wise he wouldn't have had the strength or impetuses to trail the pair. Somehow, despite all the panting and not so silent footfalls, he managed to not be noticed; which was fortunate seeing as even though some of the Coven witches were as hot as firecrackers, they could pack just as much of a punch as a case of C-40. He'd rather not catch this one's startled or pissed side and that afforded him the opportunity to figure out just why Marcus would be in her company. Once they disappeared inside, Hawkens lingered by the window, peering in curiously. They were just talking, but it was difficult to make out exactly what they were saying.

" It's not that sort of time I'm worried about... " Bane mumbles as he exhales the last bit of smoke from his lungs.

Bane smirked at the threat, Not that he didn't believe her, but he loved the passion behind it.

" If those the the extent of your Sins you'll be in Gods Kingdom long before I ever will.. " He says as he glances back towards the front window for a moment. He didn't see anything, but he felt like he was being watched. It was a damn good thing he locked that door... don't want anyone walking in on this...

She waved a hand over the book she'd been holding on to. The pages fluttered as if blown by some concentrated wind and opened on to a blank page. Banes lips curled into a frown. Obvious use of Witchcraft... He hated to see such a thing, but he wasn't in his 'natural environment' here, not his place to judge...

"Now, tell me about dz'is killer?" She said looking at Bane. He seemed somewhat distracted as he kept looking back away from her towards the door.

" Lauren and Max Connors ... " He says, turning his full attention back to Jacqueline. " a fairly standard couple.. Both reasonably devout Christians. Both found dead in their house, choked to death. No sign of forced entry... and their tox reports showed no sign of allergic reactions in either victim. " Banes face grows grimly serious. His hand reaching down deep into his pocket. " Similar cases have been found in several other homes in the region over the past 10 years... each a year apart, always a few days around the anniversary of the previous one.. and in the homes of each - one of these were found" He says as he pulls out a rather small brown bag made from a cheap cloth. " I've been lead to believe their is a caster of some kind out there doing this... They have already hurt a lot of people, and I need some way to find them before they hurt someone else.. It's only a day or so from the anniversary now. "

" If those are the extent of your Sins you'll be in Gods Kingdom long before I ever will.. " He said and Jacqueline looked down. That would be the first time she's ever been told she was going to go to Heaven, she never really believe in Heaven or Hell as it was represented but for some reason, it felt nice to be told, she could go possibly.

He looked back at her finally, after looking around the room, and out the window as if someone was watching them. Her focus was stuck on him
"Lauren and Max Connors..." He began. "A fairly standard couple...Both reasonably devout Christians. Both found dead in their house.. choked to death. No sign of forced entry... and their tox reports showed no sign of allergic reactions in either victim. "He explained and Jacqueline watched as he face turned grim as he fumbled in his pocket. " Similar cases have been found in several other homes in the region over the past 10 years... each a year apart, always a few days around the anniversary of the previous one.. and in the homes of each - one of these were found" He said and pulled out a brown bag made out of cloth. Jacqueline walked over, and took it gingerly from him. Frowning as she examined the bag. She could smell something from it. She didn't know what it was for sure but she had a small idea. " I've been lead to believe there is a caster of some kind out there doing this... They have already hurt a lot of people, and I need some way to find them before they hurt someone else.. It's only a day or so from the anniversary now. "

"Your victim is already chosen." She said before looking up at him, and handing him back the bag. "Dz'is is not your ordinary black magic. Who ever is using dz'e contents of dz'at bag, has been planning dz'is for a long time. All dz'e victims 'ave been chosen, So you are right, you are running out of time." She said and leaned back to the counter and grabbed the book ."You need to understand somedz'ing, Mon'eme, Not all magic is alike or even dz'e same." She said to him. "Dz'is , What you are dealing wit' now, is not Voodoo, Wicca or anydz'ing like dz'at. Dz'is is truly dark magic and your Killer is a Satanist." She said. " Dz'is is purely speculation but from what you told me, 'e 'as a particular 'atred for Christians." She said and sighed. " You need to find out what else dz'e previous victims all 'ave in common."

"Your victim is already chosen." She said before handing Bane the small bag back. "Dz'is is not your ordinary black magic. Who ever is using dz'e contents of dz'at bag, has been planning dz'is for a long time. All dz'e victims 'ave been chosen, So you are right, you are running out of time." She said and leaned back to the counter and grabbed the book . Bane turns away from her, shaking his head slightly. He already knew something sinister was in play, but still wasn't really ready to have someone else comfirm it.

"You need to understand somedz'ing, Mon'eme, Not all magic is alike or even dz'e same." She said to him. "Dz'is , What you are dealing wit' now, is not Voodoo, Wicca or anydz'ing like dz'at. Image " Then I- ... or... We are going to have to act fast.. " Bane says as he turns back to look at her. He seems to pause, as he simply watches her - his eyes looking her over again, although for the first time he does not appear to be viewing her through the eyes of a lustful man, but through the eyes of a worried one. The seconds continue to pass before Bane finally shakes his head slightly, as if coming out of a short daze - pushing back any thoughts he may have been having for the time being.

" Come on... My car is parked not that far from here. We can take it to my hotel so I can grab the files I've collected on all of the victims... " He says as he starts walking towards the front door. Suddenly he stops, placing a hand on his abdomen, as his stomach starts to make a grumbling sound which could be heard across the room. With all the excitement, he had almost forgot he still hadn't eaten. " And... uuh.. Maybe something to eat along the way... "

"Then I-...or...we are going to have to act fast..." He said as Jacqueline gathered a few things. She turned to him and cocked her head with the 'Really?' expression.
Image

As she pulled a bag over her shoulder, she noticed him watching her, but this time is wasn't sexual, it was as if he was deciding that he should let her help him. Like he was debating if he was going to trust her, finally though, he shook himself from his thoughts
" Come on... My car is parked not that far from here. We can take it to my hotel so I can grab the files I've collected on all of the victims... " He said as he started for the door but stopped when his stomach decided to alert them both that he needed to eat.
"And...uuh..Maybe something to eat along the way..." He said and Jacqueline brow shot to her forehead.Image "Sure." She said and walked in front of him, pushing the door open. "Dz'at should probably be d'e first stop."

She felt a bit of nervousness as she thought over the clues of this case of his.

Hexbags...nasty little things, this magic was not only dark, but whoever the user was, was skilled. The repetitive of killings....it all sounds like a summoning. She didn't know if she could content with magic of this level...especially with his limited trust of her, and her's of him.

She stopped just on the other side of the door. "Messiur Bane," She said with a frown "Understand somedz'ing, What we are against, Neidz'er of us, may be prepared for. If you want to do dz'is, you are going to 'ave to trust me...and I am going to 'ave to trust you." She said and turned to him. "Can you do dz'at?"

ImageAs Jim eyes squinted in an effort to peer through the hazy glass window, undoubtedly painted to give a glazed mystical ambiance to the otherwise ordinary building, he spied Bane's hand reaching for the door knob to exit the witches shop. He swiftly backtracked, nearly stumbling in his stupor, in an attempt to find a safe distance so's not appear too conspicuous. "Messiur Bane, Understand somedz'ing, What we are against, Neidz'er of us, may be prepared for. If you want to do dz'is, you are going to 'ave to trust me...and I am going to 'ave to trust you. Can you do dz'at?" The girl said in a thick creole accent, quick on his heels as Marcus made his way outside. Jim's eyes renarrowed. They were up to something, his suspicions confirmed.

He waved at his fellow Crusader from across the street, flagging him down and hopefully pulling him out of the temptresses sway. It was all he could do not to insert himself in the situation. It was smarter to just show he knew Marcus was up to no good and call him on it then. Thankfully, Bane was the sort of person who didn't have the patience to work out some complicated, long-term, ironic way to get back at people who'd inconvenienced him, he was the more immediate outburst type, and that Jim could handle. But much to Jim's dismay, Marcus didn't budge. He just stood there in the threshold glaring. Great.

ImageSince it was obvious Bane was going to make no move to go and join him, Impatient and presence made known, he finally decided to lop over back across the empty street to stand before them both himself, rocking on his heels when he came to a stop on the sidewalk. "Didn't expect to find you here, Marcus. Just passing through myself, on the way to church." He said, emphasization placed heavily on the word church. "Who's your friend?" He cordially extended a hand to the witch to shake though his skin crawled in anticipation of her touch before offering her a half smile. He used his free hand to rake through his unruly unwashed hair, feeling very minutely aware that he probably looked something like a hobo coming off a three day drug binge, though, he had a place to shack up and it was only a two day whiskey binge as it so happened.
