Introduction

In the beginning, there was the old world. A world similar to as we see our own modern world, fuelled by technology and limited sources of energy. War was all man knew, fighting amongst themselves for resources and land in order to continue their selfish means of survival. That was when the discovery of those who came before, the Progenitors, was made. Ancient technologies of ancient man, powered by a fully sustainable energy source. Mana Engines. This ancient technology had graced man with abilities beyond their wildest dreams, researching this ancient tech and replicating the engines for their own disgusting uses. That was when a new war broke out, a war which changed the entire world. The nations of Crimthorne saw the potential in this Progenitor technology, they all wanted it for themselves, fighting with everything they have which left the entire world in ruin. That was, until a new discovery was made: Magic.
From the ashes of the old society of the discoverers grew the new nation of the Achenian Empire, they had transformed these ancient engines into weapons. Equipping their military with Casting Devices which granted the use of synthetic magic, leaving nothing but destruction in their wake as the Achenian Empire grew larger and larger across the continent of Achenar. The war was already considered won as the Empire pushed their enemies to the ocean, crushing the old world as they built a new one, a world based around magical technology. Of course, there was much more complicated actions of this new weapon.
As the populace was exposed to the synthetic mana, individuals were born with natural abilities over magic, becoming witches or wizards in of themselves with a power far greater than the Mana Engines could ever grant with its synthetic magic. As the years of war passed, these new 'Elites' soon worked as mercenaries for all sides of the war. Selling their services to the military where entire cities were flattened in their wake.
New nations formed from the destruction of this merciless empire, floating cities built on the oceans they had fled to. They replicated the mana engines to power their new society, not fully understanding what they were relying on as a lifeline. Nobody fully understood the workings of a Mana Engine, only that they offered infinite possibility. The old world was left as a wasteland, cities barely grasping onto life. The survivors were united by a hatred for the magic that had forever altered their way of life. Even in what was considered the New World, magic was altering peoples' lives. Anyone who was born with a natural affinity for magic was considered better, there opportunities for success seeming endless. If you were fortunate enough to be able to acquire a Mana engine, you were considered a Synth, lesser than an Elitist who possesed the natural gift of magic but still better than a Mundane human, someone too poor to even use synthetic magic.
Officially, the War ended fifty years ago. Emperor Marius Duval of the Achenian Empire passed away and a relative state of peace was left across the land. However the effects from the war are still being felt. The Empire's expansion had stopped but it's enemies did not. The remnants of the Old World still plotted their revenge, those who lost there lands to the Empire dreamt of the day they would reclaim them and even within the Empire's borders magic split the people apart.
It is here where your story begins; the coronation of the new Empress of the Achenian Empire had begun in the grand city of Arcania. New generations of Elites reaching their coming of age, new generations of Mana Engines created, new soldiers conscripted into the cause...

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 5 authors
"Oy, make way you lot! Lady Francine of the House Beaupre approaches!", One of them shouted to clear out the thick crowd. Everyone followed suit, fearing the worse. "M'lady." He addressed her and gestured forward. Francine faintly smiled and continued on, the glares of the crowd weighing on her. However, she had an idea at that instant. Rather than step forward she put her hands to her mouth and whistled, the spell hidden in the very tune she whistled as she stepped forward. The illusion cast, of a very stubborn Francine Beaupre arguing with her guards and those affected were those who heard it. It would be as real as day if it worked, perhaps even drawing the attention of some who didn't even see it. It wouldn't last too long and so when she had taken a few steps forward, she darted away.
The wind picked up her long dress, she glanced over her shoulder to see her own handy work and giggled. They never learn...She thought happily as she rushed into a clothing store to change into something less...noble. Eventually she would have to do just as her father wanted but at the very least these next two hours would be hers.
A central blue eye focused on beryllium bronze hands clenched to bring its thoughts back onto the earth. Striations in the blue gem impulsed by patterns their own. Aligned along two gleaming intersections Hodgepodge's eyes looked down pushing itself away from hard grey stone. A solidity of resting bedrock on which the dust could seek purpose. A void such as itself seeks to be filled like the purpose of the first engine was to be the first cradle of stars. The errant eddies of the dusty river around him didn't find the solidity of flesh for several seconds. Hodgepodge and its sky was sat behind a crate ignored by the people but now sunk deep into a river of them. Two guards threw patterns at an exploding star slowly falling under the river of dust to be used again. The cradle of that star however where had she gone?
Carrying oneself along with the current of dust was momentarily tiring a profound solidity to its limbs while coherence of time returned. Swimming through the river to pace with reality as the bronze robot took in eddies on the sea. Warmth from the cradle of a newborn star drew hodgepodge near the burn of one already sparked grew cold. On the wind are ashes of creation pouring into his senses with a hum in the first machine's sky on his ears. Its eye saw the human that wandered still alight with creation. It waded through the chatter of other people, against an inert wind of thought, while largely ignoring those around it in turn. Ones like him, as thinly it thought of that notion, were perhaps not entirely ignored but that dust neither adhered. At least unless one of the people cared enough to not gather the current around them to see the ones swimming upstream. Faceless by disinterest people moved aside or around by the spellcast adherent fully engaged with a hymn of the first engine. The whirl pool of draining dust darkens the shop door to find the scent of ashes.

From the balcony of the restaurant across the street sat the infamous highwayman, none of the guests knowing that he had snuck onto the elevated platform overlooking the street and taken his seat among the other patrons in a span of seconds. No one had even batted an eye. No one gave him a close look. He kept his head buried into the menu, hiding his marauder's hat within while his eyes kept gaze on one spot in the street...one store in particular.
The street itself was packed. Granted, it was always packed with merchants and customers trying to purchase something extravagant for their own personal gain. But this time, the street was nearly tripled on occupants, all here to see the Coronation and enjoy everything the festival had to offer. Such an event would offer fantastic deals on typically high-priced items. Things as ornate as semi-valuable jewelry and party dresses to things as practical as baked bread and jugs of water. Even the prank shop down the street was out of stock of their highest selling item: Shock-Sticks. They were one-use batons that used a tiny amount of Synthetic Magic to send a small electrical volt into an unsuspecting victim. A child's gag, no less, but everything was being bought today.
After all, it wasn't like an empress was crowned every day of the week.
"Good evening, sir! Can I get you anything to drink?"
Jaxon barely glanced up from the menu, using his peripherals to examine the young serving girl. Her blonde hair done up in a dazzling style that seemed to gleam in the setting sun's light. Her eyes sparkled with excitement at the atmosphere around her and her smile was probably whiter than the neat and orderly uniform she wore.
Naive.
"I'll need one moment, please," Jaxon gruffly replied from behind the menu. The girl nodded in understanding and walked off, helping another customer at another table. He turned his attention back towards the clothing store, waiting to see the woman walk out of it.

As he arrived at where Lady Francine was supposed to be at, everything appeared fine. Her personal guards clearing the way for her and that is when she suddenly began arguing with the guards. It was a rather sudden event, now why would she begin arguing with her own guards? Something was strange here, and he soon realised something. Magic, that was not the really Lady Francine, it was just a clever illusion. It was clever but there was a new problem. "Where did she go...she should know that there could be assassins lurking around waiting for an opportunity to take her out. I should locate her before such a thing happens." With that said he had his mission. Locate and secure Francine and bring her back to her guards.
The setting changes from Arcania to Crimthorne
There were many places that Odetta should be right now, places like her house listening to his mother complain about her recklessness or maybe she could be finding a new wall to decorate in the many warehouses of her neighborhood and it´s was probably in her best interest to be with all the other trainees in her group, resting, studying or whatever those preppy newbies are doing at this second but to her none of that places seemed appealing, or not as much as watching the coronation. When she heard one of her roommates about the festival there was no doubt in her mind she would be attending, after all it was about time she went out for one of her night explorations.
The rules to sneak out were the same wherever she was "Just pretend to go to sleep early or lie and say you are not feeling great then sneak out, remain unseen and come back before you are missed" she told to herself and with Rika it was so much easier "For a military full of sinths and even elitist they really should take more care on the security department of the training grounds, I mean my roommates weren´t capable of casting a good spell to save their life’s but some of the teachers had really awesome magic" thoughts like this made her question how unbelievable easy it had been to sneak out even more so after that weird feeling she got before landing on the other side of the fence but since no alarm seemed to spread through the guards she just shrugged it off and made her way into the heart of the city.
Berly arrived sometime before the coronation ceremony which was cool for her since she was there for festival and maybe to see some neat magic being used as entertainment "so far so good now I just have to find a spot away from the military guarding this whole thing and chill for a while, maybe even see if one of this stores has some spray paint that I can ajem borrow"...
Capital of Drakani, Dr Sokolov´s clinic a week before the coronation festival
"...Thank you so much Dr Sokolov this cough was such an annoyance and you know how my lungs are, flimsy thing after that flu from last year and if it weren´t for you who knows what would be of me..." Ms Lormclock continued talking and stealing more time from Yuri but to him his job as a physician was just another small necessity to his research even if at times like this, a very tiring part of his otherwise very interesting schedule "Don´t even mention it my darling you know very well the cheerfulness of your presence is one of the very few highlights of an otherwise very taxing occupation and it´s just my one complain that it seems to be only through your misfortunate health that I’m capable of receiving the enjoyment of our conversations"he said this while leading the old woman to the door of his clinic "I must express my apologies but I´m press in time I´ll be visiting another patient shortly so I must prepare my bag, make sure to take the medicine and call on me if the symptoms continue".
After closing the door tightly he went down to his basement to sort the disappointing results of last night trials "It seems my research materials have again run out *Sigh* time to accommodate a new retrieving excursion to the Achenin border or maybe I can convince some of my puppets to go farther and help find some elite magic willing to help save the world, I seem to recall Sergei and his group owing me a favor or two" mumbling this to himself while searching for the information on Sergei´s underground group and after finding it he made his way to the phone "mmhh yes this will be a good hunting spot, full of different materials" tapping the newspaper next to the phone on the highlighted news about some sort of festival in Arcania...
Seven days and some variedly successful collecting latter found Yuri on the middle of the coronation festival talking gleefully to some vendors and scanning the crowd for some easy prey "even if it is just a lowly guard with a sinth suit or perhaps some young elite with powers that can be easily contained, something anything that brings more success to my test results" He though and by chance he witnessed a small disturbance in the mood of the crowd caused by an altercation between some nobility and guards, but something wasn´t right with that picture since a small girl very similar to the one arguing with the officers was going inside of a nearby shop "Quite interesting indeed..."
