Biography:
Max has had a pretty simple life. He grew up with both parents. He is an only child and received plenty of attention in his younger years. Since his father's powers were not hereditary, Max did not receive them. He always knew who his dad was and what he did. He idolized this. Max always wanted to be just like his father. Tony sent Max to Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters when he was 10. Max stayed there every school year until he was 16. It was clear to everyone that Max did inherit Tony's mind. He was a genius, the smartest kid in the school. Eventually, Max developed a deep desire for a suit. Both of his parents objected to this, but Max was relentless. He wasn't typically rebellious, but this caused him to rebel. At the age of 16, Max forced his father's hand by taking a sample of Tony's blood while Tony was asleep. He then separated the Extremis virus from the blood and injected himself with it. Tony had no choose but to install an arc reactor in his son's chest to keep him alive. Max once again went behind his father's back and built a suit of his own. He stole old design schematics and followed them to the tee, only modifying the color. He even built his own talking AI (like Jarvis) named Franklin. When Tony found out, they had a huge fight. The deed was done though. Tony came to accept it. Max is one of the main reasons Tony helped start up the school. Since he got his suit, Max has trained relentlessly to be able to control it.

ImageThe same type of response came from both ears regarding her worry of Jai verse Magni. Basically speed, verse, strength, verse determination which neither party seemed as anxious about. Then an added, "Relax," from Caleb. In Astrid's case, it was easier said than done. The giant Asguardian only needed to land one punch. Astrid released a slow breath and listened intently to the save the civilian exercise. "Good guess," he muttered to her. Astrid rolled her eyes. She didn't think anyone was ecstatic about pairs they didn't get a say in. "Yes, I jinxed it actually."

That was all before Alex and Junior burst through the door with fists flying. Now that was a fight too late to intervene in. They were locked on each other like homing missiles and if anyone intervened it'd probably evolve into a free-for-all. But Phil had a way of assertiveness and words causing the two to break apart.

Who she was paired with was convenient. It wasn't anyone with anger issues or troublesome. It was just Max who she knew well and could place her trust in. Someone she could definitely work with, though even she preferred him with the suit for peace of mind. Astrid gave Caleb a tight smile before shifting her gaze to Max and smiling, who had the decency to approach her and head up together. "Let's go Misses Cap." He even offered his hands which she smiled more to. Astrid placed her palm in his and rose. "It's not the world yet, but let's go save a dummy." She chuckled and nodded. "A dummy is a good start, Mr. Stark."

Passing Olivia, she noticed the girl to be a little caught up in her own world, though it may have been part of her personality as well. So before proceeding to the elevator she paused. "Happy with your partner? Looking forward to it?" Astrid detoured for general chit-chat and an enlightening grin. Even Astrid was nervous but excited but she knew Max fully had her back.

She reached the elevator and pressed L29 and headed for the room, staying close to Stark. Usually she was very independently functional but she didn't have a clue what to expect. Astrid was fortunate to be paired with someone of Max's intellect and quick thinking. Because no matter what, high IQ was helpful in almost every scenario.

Max was eager to get to his arena. Unlike most of his class mates, he was fine with his partner. Astrid was in fact "super" without her shield, where as Max was not super without his suit. Max was confident enough in his intelligence. He would think his way through this one, relying Astrid's physical abilities.

Max stood next to Astrid in the elevator. He could sense her anxiety about what might be before them, so he placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. They watched as a few pairings got off of the elevator before them. Finally the elevator reached LL29. With a deep breath, Max lead the way into the arena. What he saw surprised him. The room was completely empty, save for a beam that stretched from floor to ceiling on the other side of the room. Tied to the beam was the 'civilian' they must save. Max scratched his head. He wasn't quite sure of the complication here. He looked at Astrid nervously. "So, ummmmm... I guess we should head over and untie the dummy and see what happens. I'm sure we can handle it from there." Max said with skepticism in his tone. He knew one thing: there was no way it was this easy. Phil had something up his sleeve. Max lead the way once again as he hurried towards the other end of the room. The clock was ticking already, and they didn't even know what the problem was yet.

ImageThe room changed but only slightly so, extending in height with a beam down the other end. Was that truly it? She doubted it and it made her hesitate. She exchanged a worrisome glance with Max. "So, ummmmm... I guess we should head over and untie the dummy and see what happens. I'm sure we can handle it from there." Astrid picked up on his skepticism and nodded in agreement. Approach with caution but move at least. Sitting and waiting wasn't going to accomplish anything after all.

Astrid took a pace behind Max that fluctuated between jogging and power walking as she kept checking their six but nothing happened. They reached the opposite end, where they untied the civilian but when the civilian moved in step with Max, Astrid could have sworn the walls moved. "Maximilian?" She asked as she froze on the spot, checking for confirmation.

Her ambitious eyes moved to the door that seemed like such an easy run. Or in any casual circumstances she was sure it would be. There was a strong feeling outrunning gradually shrinking walls was not the adversary to overcome, because again, that would be too convenient. "Do you think it works on pressure?" The walls were slowly crawling inward. She tried her luck scanning for sources in the room to use but it was bare. Only the concrete room and beam in itself was present so things were probably going to close in regardless.

"I hope you're not claustrophobic." Astrid didn't want Max's intellect scattered by fear. Nor her own.

ImageShe had paid utmost attention to Max's words but didn't waste time arguing seeing no other option available to them, other than be crushed. Astrid got to work kicking at the beam and chopping her arm and elbow at it and as time ticked away, it grew more stressful of a chore because the damn thing wasn't breaking and the walls were sliding inward. Max didn't have the abilities of Astrid so she knew this was all on her. It took a few more full forced kicks and she heard the beam groan in protest as cracks revealed themselves. She hit it once more before having to hug the large thing for control over it. Astrid bared down her teeth as she concentrated. "It needs to be smaller." She said. Astrid understood that hearing the brace had to be smaller was not a comforting thought. Even she didn't like it. But control was the most important thing for them here.

Astrid kicked at the splinter end and when it was small enough, turfed it as a brace. The walls weren't as close as she thought by that time so she had made it a little too small. "Oh...god." She could have shuttered at what she had cost them. A decent gap either side of the remaining beam. It was best made an opportunity to cover more ground though. "Might as well...The walls are only going to catch up anyway." Astrid guided Max forward so he didn't play over cautious, while also demonstrating how well the walls moved with them. Max and the civilian anyway. She stooped down and carried the beam on her shoulders. "Go ahead." She half turned her head to Max and gestured forward, trying a stiff smile. "I got your back."

After a lot of struggle of readjusting the brace as Max proceeded with the citizen, the beam was conforming to the pressure and shrinking in it's size as the walls did to the point it lost it's horizontal use and Astrid had to re-position her body sideways. The good news was the door was in close sight by that stage with her back was pressed to one wall and holding the beam as a last chance barrier against the other. "Right behind you." If he couldn't feel her right behind him, she was assuring him.
