The Divide

The Divide

0 INK

A roleplay centering on the laws and division between light and dark elves. Romance and fighting is sure to break out as the elders fight to protect tradition while the human threat moves closer and closer. Think Avatar with a civil war.

4,460 readers have visited The Divide since Sannasan created it.

Introduction

In a time long before man’s rise, creatures of a lovely race called Elves roamed the naked earth. They walked with grace through virgin forests and brought joy to all the creatures of the green planet. Men were in awe of their sophisticated beauty and developed civilization. An elf could outlive an entire human dynasty and still carry all the beauty of its youth. Surely there was nothing more peaceful and beautiful than the fair elves.

Just as man was beginning to settle in their first cities, two tribes of elves began to quarrel over an unoccupied strip of land surrounding the elven capital. One tribe was a group of nomads, hunters of the marsh and the night. The other was a highly civilized tribe that made their homes in beautiful buildings and lived mainly by trade with the budding human race. The hunters wanted the land for a place to settle, the city elves thought the land was far too sacred for savages such as them. And thus the elven race was split.

The hunters made their home in the cruel marshes and thorny forests of their prey. Their skin darkened over time and the sun began to burn their eyes and sting their skin. Moonlight became their camouflage as they moved like shadows through their dark woods. These became the dark elves.
The city elves expanded their kingdom and became more and more friendly with man, teaching them the ways of agriculture and weaponry. These elves remained as they always had, fair and sun loving.

Centuries past, and the elves of both faction were forced further and further into the wilderness as man’s empire grew and their wars ravaged the green planet. The factions were forced to exist nearer and nearer to one another as their race became only legend to the humans.

It is now the current year, and man thinks of elves as Santa’s helpers or dreams of them in fantasy novels. Their iron cities have dwindled the elves numbers down to a small group of each faction. Both exist on opposing sides of a great river which requires more contact between the groups than either of the leaders would like, but necessity is forcing them closer and closer together. A group of humans have become interested in the land surrounding the river, having heard rumor of strange sightings. Three races are about to collide. Whose side are you on?

1. Profiles: Human, Light Elf, or dark elf only. Specify what they are in your profile somewhere, please. Make them original but as realistic as an elf can get. Give your characters flaws whether it be a temper problem, or a stalking problem or even an addiciton. Something to make them endearing, to make them plausible.
2. Posting: Post as frequently as possible without burning yourself out. No txt tlk, at least a paragraph: spell check!
3.Violence: A little blood and guts is fine, no autohitting, no godmodding. I always suggest disscussing the fight with your oppenent outside of the roleplay to determine the outcome once they start, that way you don't take up twenty posts without aim.

Valius's words snapped Nelena out of the trance she'd been taken under. Blinking several times to clear her blurry eyes, she watched as he wiped away the tears that seemed to cascade down her cheeks. She had to stop this, had to stop healing him. It would only make things matter worse whether or not she believed Valius should not even be contained here. For too long, she'd ignored the other half of her heritage. Ignored her Sun God and all to please her father, not her Moon Goddess. What was she to do, though? Silas was an excellent leader for the Dark Elves, which is why she'd remained with the village. Was she a traitor, though, for both sides? The tears only began to fall even more as the thoughts paraded before her confused mind. Her soul was crying as well. With nothing else in mind to stop the tears, Nelena let go of Valius's wrist before she could heal him thoroughly and fell against him, resting her head on his shoulder. She needed this contact with the priest. Maybe even with Grigrot to let the Sun God know she was still a loyal follower. Nelena usually had better control over her emotions, but this, this was just too much and not only because she was a healer, but also because of the Light Elf blood flowing through her veins.

Valius sighed softly as the young woman fell on his shoulder, his eyes shutting tightly. He searched her soul along with the Sun God, sensing her mixed blood and mixed loyalty. All of her hardships and triumphs, fears and convictions. The priest’s skin warmed beneath her cheek, a pleasant warmth like walking from the shade into the sunlight. β€œYour situation is complicated, Nelena.” He wrapped an arm around her, petting her hair carefully. β€œYou need not choose between your father’s Goddess and my God, you belong to both of them.” He held her, murmuring to her soothingly in old tongue. In other circumstances, Valius would have done a cleansing prayer with her and prescribed some honey wine and lots of time in sun, but these were not normal. His usually beautiful, vibrant clothes and hair were bloodied and filthy. He had three broken bones, maybe more, and his people had been eradicated…most of them anyway. Valius was beginning to feel some warm presences on the edge of his psychic awareness. But he could do nothing more than hold the confused girl for the time being. β€œPlease do not shed tears over your blood.” He stroked her long hair once more, forcing his own tears to stop flowing for the time being. Grief was best served in solitude, after all. Silas’ guards lingered outside of the door, more than one offended that such a beautiful woman was in there with a Light Elf priest, Nelena was fancied by many after all.

His words and the touch of his hand in her hair soothed away the confusion, lessening the hurt, though it still throbbed in the back of her mind. Perhaps it was time to step forward and defend her Sun God to Silas? Nelena could not allow them to harm the Priest nor Grigrot any longer. Neither of the two had done anything towards the Dark Elves. Grigrot, as Valius said, was just a child stuck in a monstrous-like body. His mind could not comprehend such difficult happenings. The two were not to be feared, it was the humans who needed to face the wrath of what remained of the Elf society. Anger quickly washed over any pain she felt, the tears coming to a complete stop. She pulled away from Valius, her eyes flashing angrily. "I will not stand by and let them cause you anymore harm, or to Grigrot. The humans are the fiends and there is no reason for us to punish the two of you." Standing up and going to the door, she faced the guards standing there. "Tell Silas I seek his counsel. I need to have a few words with him. No one will enter this dwelling until I have had the chance to speak with him. Tell him-- tell him it is the will of the Sun God." Even though Silas had no loyalty to the Sun God, she hoped he would understand her meaning and grant her a moment of his time and patience.

"Time is not a luxury we can afford Silas Nightshade, I fear tomorrow night will be too late. These 'beasts' as I would describe only take at the most 2-3 hours to strike again and depending on how many teams of 'handlers' the humans have to restock these 'beast' the city will be attacked in a matter of early morn." He stated to the dark elf leader. Darcon couldn't help but smirked, his thoughts and emotions betrayed Silas in his own private thoughts. The spell third eye (See previous posts) proved quite effective in this turn enjoying the fact that the brute was now reduced to a desperate mess. Still, life time wishes aside this still proved quite tricky and thus allowed Silas to venture away "I wish to talk with you more a little later." He stated.

He would counter the feeble and pathetic priestess statement, but he knew it would lead to unnecessary troubles and after all at least she was functional again. The hooded dark elven man paced across the small valley, the bony elf reflecting on the various private conflicts of all his peers around him. There was one set of thoughts which personally interested the dark elf wizard. There seemed to be a healer that was torn between ethics and duty. She was disallowed by Silas' crude traditions to do what she felt in her heart right and true by attending to the pathetic inferior light elven prisoner. What was even more surprising and interesting is that she appeared to claim loyalty to the patron god of the light elves as well as that of the dark elves. A half breed, this indeed intrigued Darcon for she too sounded most desperate to help him, and who was he not a provide her the means to her end. After all, it did not take a mind reader to figure out she was concerned for the light elf, perhaps even love?

As for the light elf himself, he was most entertained with his misery. The once proud arrogant fool, was this truly the Valius his customers and clients have conversed in their minds? His light easy going heart was filled with agony and his once wise mind was plagued with fear and doubt. Perhaps he could serve some keen assistance, after all he was quite worried that he was the only one left of his kind. Darcon wonder what he might obtained from the elf if he had shown proof if his kind was distinct or still alive. Money and power seemed non-existent in this trade, which is a shame for he rather enjoyed gold more than silver. It almost seemed like a waste of components really, though Valius was still a handsome man. Darcon smirked, perhaps he could gain something after all. Suddenly something turned the wizard's head.

He could sense her emotions running wild, a deep guilt and thoughts of confessing the entire situation to Silas. In truth, this was a mistake in her part. Silas was a stickler to the rules, to tradition, to the way things are and this woman was about to not only not achieve her ends, but the wizard truly felt like she was going to lose her very life. That would be an opportunity lost forever and a loss at a chance of profit. Thus he had decided to.. intervene as he paced forward towards the healer's hut and the guards. As she told them to send a message he waved his staff letting out a sinister incantation, the spell he tried to cast over the weak willed guards was a powerful potent magic literally paralyzing almost all the functions of the brain and completely erasing the the last moments of thought which included the message that was bound to Silas. The guards stood there hexed, appearing perfectly normal from the distance but up front dead-like in the eyes as they still faced the priestess.

The wizard spoke "Forgive me for the rather rash actions, but something told me you were about to do something that you would regret." The gaunt elf predicted, not mentioning the fact it was a mind reading spell. "I know what you feel you should do is the right thing to do... I am sorry to tell you it is not, if you do confront Silas you will not only get punished possibly exiled and believe me when I say he is very keen on his banishments." The dark elf spoke from experience "but as well as that that elf in the tent which Silas had forbade to heal will still remain in his suffering condition. If it is your true desire to heal this one and his.. companion you will have to find a way around Silas, his keen marksmen sentries... I possess a means to that end, I will be waiting at the edge of the undergrowth in 20 minutes.. Good day." He stated with a bow before pacing away. With that the spell was dispelled as the warriors felt a slight headache from the powerful magic "What in the moon? Why does my head fell so... Oh, Nelena! Is there something we can do for you?" The sentry inquired the group having forgotten the last moment before the curse was fired off.

Tchata supressed a shudder at the feel of Silas' fingertips against her skin and then sighed, watching his eyes carefully. It almost seemed as if someting had changed there. The warmth in his eyes was different. Nicer. It confused her, even as she smiled gently back at him. "I am sorry to make you worry," she answered. His hand brushed against hers as they walked and she remembered the heat from the night before when Syll and the human had come. She sighed again and touched the scar on her chest herself. It was a bit sore and she was sure that it would be there for the rest of her life. Would her heart underneath it feel that way son too? The feeling of keeping everything a secret had started to press in on her every thought. Something would have to change soon. In the humans' hut, she took the place that was more respectable. By his side, a few feet away.

Why did it all have to be so complicated?

---

Alyssa nodded and gave Areon an approving smile. She took a firm hold of his wrist and towed him back to his cot. She considered his words with a frown. They would have to adress this downer attitude at some point. "Whatever you want, Areon," she told him. She got him settled in his cot once more and then sat at the foot of the bed, settling his feet in her lap, just like she used to do when John was sick. Already she was engrossed in her thoughts. What did it mean that the same people that made Wolverine-esque super soldiers were hanging around Fantasy Land? The more she thought about it, the more she was glad she hadn't tried to flag them down. He was a lot of bit unconventional, but Alyssa trusted Areon's judgement.

She was considering letting herself take a bit of a nap when the leader, she was sure she had heard someone call him Nightshade, came through the door, the black-skinned bossy elf right behind him. It seemed that whenever she saw one, the other was not far away. As they made their way into the hut, she saw him snatch his hand away from hers. Huh. Like they were flirting, but they didn't want anyone to know. Weird.

She didn't recoil when Nightshade sat so close to her, on the edge of Areon's bed. He just wasn't as scary as the rest of them were. She remembered the night she was taken. He had been gentle when the others had been rough. It was a stark contrast to that elf who had called him father. Alyssa shivered at the memory. She dreaded having to ever see him again.

The question that Nightshade posed, however, made her uncomfortable. She watched Areon's face the whole time Nightshade was talking, thinking of the few conversations they had had. "Areon doesn't want to kill anyone, do you Areon?" she said suddenly. She could feel her face getting hot as they threw their sharp gazes at her, but pressed on. Areon's mumblings while he slept had been coherent enough. He hated that he had killed people in the past, that was evident enough. He had made a commitment to keeping her safe. The least she could do was a litle nagging. "I mean, he did some cool ninja shit and now the giant can't move. He isn't hurting anyone anymore, is he? Maybe, I mean... I don't know." She brushed her hair back out of her face nervously. "Be careful, Areon."" she murmered

Areon looked at the ceiling. β€œI wonder… what does it mean to be alive… to be human… or even an elf.” He looked at the door. As the two entered, β€œGreetings.” Areon closed his eyes β€œAs a warrior I would cut him down… but I am no warrior… I choose to spare him… let him aid against these invaders… he is more then strong enough to be used against the helicopters…”

She felt his presence before seeing him with her own two eyes. Turning her head, Nelena laid those eyes on the wizard. Why was he assisting her? Most likely for his own devices, to be sure. The elf had not a good bone in his body. But, still, his words seemed to seep into her mind, very much like warm honey, spreading and pulling like tendrils to consume her. If he could help with her mission in healing Valius and Grigrot, perhaps even freeing them, they could leave the village-- forever. Silas would never understand her situation. Never understand the fact Nelena owed loyalty to both the Sun God and his lover, the Moon Goddess. How could she even begin to explain? With a soft sigh, she looked up at the sentry who spoke, shaking her head, "It is nothing. I believe Silas wants you to bring the Sun priest to Grigrot. Please do so, but try to be gentle. If he dies, then Grigrot will be angered and the village will be facing that anger once again. You may inform Silas I have returned to my hut, the one closest to the village border. He may send the two humans there, along with my basket of herbs. I need them close to determine how to duplicate the male's vial of medicine." With one last look to Valius, she bowed her head respectively, winking in his direction before stepping out of the hut.

Nelena whistled, the sound echoing through the village. Sayda, her beautiful white mare, came galloping from where she'd hidden during the entire past events. Nelena swung onto her back and squeezed Sayda's sides with her slim, but strong legs. The mare took off at a sprint, knowing her mistress's urgency. Minutes later, Nelena reached the location Darcon requested for their meeting and slid from Sayda's back. Leaning against the mare, Nelena awaited Darcon's arrival while thinking of a handsome face and one that did not deserve to be treated so badly.

Darcon awaited at the edge of the undergrowth, a dark spooky like wood lands that dwell in the outskirts of the city. The guant wizard awaited two guest and he turned to see his first one had arrived. He focused his attention to the buzzing of wings seeing a very small insect with bright red eyes slowly twisting and transforming into a beautiful elvish maiden of sleek black skin and bright white hair. She opened her eyes once more a deep crimson red silently judging the wizard in her gaze. They spoke in there sinister whispers, the language of devils and fiends from the deepest planes of his lord and master. I have fetched what you desired Wizard. she stated presenting a bright red canister, a small flame label slapped upon it. Darcon smiled ..and where did you find this gasoline my dear? he inquired.

The humans have their encampment within the dark elf woods, a large amount of vehicles, devices, and more of those flying machines. We found a set of trucks that the humans used as a storage space, highly guarded, filled with these canisters. the disguised woman recounted. The wizard continued there talks finding out all the things the devilish spies had found out about the human base. The wizard was most pleased Very good, there is a young man by the name of Malvar, he is a athletic man with two crippled fingers at the beginning of his right hand. Seek him out and alert back to me. he instructed the woman nodded her head and then transformed into a raven flying off to seek out the former hunter.

It was only a small while later, he could sense the thoughts of the healer getting closer, but.. fading.. perhaps his spell was wearing away. He looked to her "Good evening fair healer, I trust you weren't followed?" The sinister wizard inquired.

For the third day in a row, Valetea had stood staring at her parent's graves. She had said not a word, she hadn't moved, and no one could get through to her, not even Nascus. It was odd, because her eyes were that deep red that they became when she was having a vision, but not one vision had ever lasted more then a few seconds. One lasting three days was unheard of.

Again, she felt his presence before he appeared visually in front of her. What had possessed her to even agree to this little rendezvous? What could she possibly accomplish by agreeing to any such folly proposed by this despised Wizard of all the Dark Elves? Two names popped into her mind: Valius and Grigrot. Why? They were most likely the last of the Light Elves, the side Nelena never had a chance to appreciate and learn about. All she knew were the ways of the Dark Elves and nothing else of her heritage. That would all change now, though; either with the help of this Wizard or on her own. Stepping towards the bony creature, her eyes stayed locked onto his, arms crossed. "Let us be about our business, Wizard. Why have you requested to meet me here? What is your purpose?"

Darcon gazed around the secluded area answering her question afterwards in a snide remark "Well, the answer to the first question should be quite obvious." He foretold in a rather careless and indifferent voice. "...or perhaps you would like to discuss extremely high treason over a cup of tea next to the 'we love Silas' central hub." he remarked before the sinister wizard coughed out a reckless storm. Despite his power of magic, spell, even death itself, the wizard was a weak thing, constantly in poor health and it was on his pure genius and natural power alone that he surpassed his natural life expectancy a number that was suppose to be quite low extended to thousands of years more. "Excuse my crude manners... I can understand that your quite confused so allow me to clarify. It is my intentions to present to you a magical method to sneaking back inward into the medical pavilion and apply your handy work to the two light elves without Silas and his other... minions knowing." The wizard explained.

"I assure you, the only caught to this claim is that I am not a charity. If you desire this method you must do good trade with me, be it silver, rare mineral or other sort of treasure, service or so on. I must warn you now, this method is not cheap, but very effective." With those words being said, Darcon presented his offer. The wizard wrapped his skinny dark fingers across his black staff, the crimson red orb slightly glue as an outline of his almost skeletal face (OMG I am playing Skeletor!) appeared before the orb dimmed downed. "I do not pretend to be a saint, nor do I have a heart for even the most just of cause, but the one cause that rings true to my heart is the clinking of coins..." The dark elf stated honesty.

Nelena flinched when the wizard went into a fit of coughing. Perhaps, he would fall dead at her very feet and she would not be tempted any further by his offer. While that thought seemed hopeful, it also made Nelena feel quite the opposite. If the wizard were to die suddenly, Valius and Grigrot may stay Silas's prisoners, their lives filled with unneeded torture. She could not allow such a thing to happen to them. Hearing what the wizard had planned for her, Nelena took a moment longer to consider. To have the ability to sneak back into the village and heal Valius, plus Gigrot, seemed beneficial for her cause. It certainly had it's appeal. Tapping fingertips on her arms, she turned a quizzical eye upon Darcon. "Let's say, after we discuss payment, what will become of Valius and Grigrot after I have healed them? Will I help them escape? Silas and the Priestess will quickly notice the two Light Elves are no longer wounded. Tell me, wizard, what will happen to them?"

Nascus walked up behind Valetea and sighed. "You know that they died for some purpose, if they hadn't died I would have never met you." He said lovingly and put his arms around her. He confessed his love for her, but knew that she would never except it. She was to wrapped up in being a visionary and the old traditions of the dark-elf tribe.

"I do not know what to do..." the words escaped from her lips in a whisper as she felt Nascus' arms around her. It was true that she was a visionary and that the old ways forbid her to love, but she loved him. Loving Nascus was something she would never be able to run from. Slowly, the red faded from her eyes. She felt a small hand wrap around her fingers. She looked and saw Nalius. The young, bright silver eyes gauzed up at her, clearly saying, you're being stupid.
The young elf was so pure, and Valetea was reminded too much of her brother Mortgen when he looked at her. Her ears drooped slightly. She knew the boy was right. She was the only visionary known. The old ways no longer mattered.
"I'm sorry Nascus..."

Darcon ill yellow eyes nodded slightly at the inquiry "A very legitimate concern healer... But I assure you that I have not consider that myself." he told the healer. The skeletal spell-caster dig into his magic bag and pulled out two very brightly colored vials. The first was a dark hue of blue and the other was a sickly green. Flaunting the blue vial the wizard spoke "This tonic will make you unseen to the eyes and unheard to the ears of all dark elves. One must only take a simple sip to activate this elixir magical properties." The wizard explained his method on how to get back inward into the tent. The dark elf then presented the green vial with his bony hands. "This is a rubbing oil of great illusion, rub it over the original wounds after you have finished your deeds. The oil will take care of the rest, making it appear the elvish duo never had receive the medical assistance you desired to give." He told the healer.

A sinister smirk rose from his face "Of course... What you do with the rest of the two vials are completely up to you." The wizard almost hinted treason, but of course who was he to decide the actions of the noble healer. After all, he did respect creatures of choice. Placing both vials back into the bag through a simple levitation spell he closed the magical crocodile skin bag and turned to the healer. "Now... let us discuss the price for this trade."

I have been trying to get things sorted out, and I believe that I have succeded. You were right, Nascus. The old ways are dead and do not matter to us. I love you Nascus. Alyssa patted Areon's leg and then glanced up at the two elves before them. "So... I know this is probably a bit far down on your list of priorities, but, um... what exactly are we supposed to do all day-- er, I mean night?" She fiddled nervously with her hair as she spoke, shooting glances through the door at the veritable beehive of activity. Now that the immediate danger was gone, people were moving around a lot. Everyone seemed to have somewhere to go, something to do. Three days ago at about this time she would just be getting home from her work waitressing, she'd be calling up her boyfriend, or tucking her mom into bed. What kind of work did a human do in a camp full of elves though? "And what's wrong? Why is everyone freaking out? Not that I would really know what was freaking out and what was normal around here... is there something wrong?"

Areon yawned before stretching out . He looked at Alyssa, he was thinking… he definitely felt different towards her then anyone else he remembered… such a weird feeling… though weird as it was… strangely… he kind of liked it. β€œI think were suppose to live life during the night and sleep during the day. They seem to be photosensitive… thus they mainly go outside during the night. β€œ He scratched he side of his head. β€œDo you every wonder how much the elves could know… they live longer then entire families… one could have known your first ancestor… I almost find it hard to grasp how it would feel to be able to live that long.” He looked with protective eyes over Alyssa. β€œThough what ever happens I will keep my promise to protect you…” He looked towards Silas. β€œI will also do what I can to protect your people…I think… I might be able to use one of those… flying things… I have a deep recollection that I once flew one… imagine the set backs we could throw on them if we turned even one of those ship against them.”

He breathed a sigh of relief because she said that she loved him, and he didn't have to hear it from some light-elf assassin trying to kill Valetea. "So what do you want to do about my dad, you know he isn't going to want or allow this relationship to work." He said with a slight smile and hugged her with a little laugh.

"You think so? He seemed to have very different ideas when I last spoke to him." Valetea said with a small smile.

"Yeah he can come off that way, but I know that he will keep traditions. You and me will be like him and the priestess." He said with a little laugh and smiled. "That would make a strange pair, I could only picture my dad with my mom and no one else. That can't be good, and why am I thinking about my dads love life. When am I going to stop talking to myself and kiss you?" He said and smiled.

Valetea blinked once, and then smiled. She leaned forward and slowly, softly, kissed the man who held her. When she pulled back she whispered, "When I do it for you."

Wow, hey why are you thinking that and not saying it? He thought and said," Uh, Wow." He looked somewhat surprised that she would be so bold, but he wasn't going to stop her. He looked over at a tree. "So um, what do you want to do about my dad and the priestess." He said with a slight grin but was worried.

She smiled again. "I think we worry about that when the time comes." She noted his glance toward the tree. Now, what are you thinking?
