Marcus Alexander Daniels || 21 || Male || Bisexual || Law Major
Oh, my, feels just like I don't try
Look so good I might die
Although her otherwise may not care about the feud, Marcus does tend to at least humor the little three-way struggle for power going on between the Carters, Daniels, and Ashers. He takes part in it, but more for his own personal amusement than anything else. He doesn't hope that the families will reconcile because he is having fun enough with the current situation. It is probably selfish of him, but Marcus has never been the most selfless of people.

Although Marcus is by no means a corrupt person, or doesn't consider himself to be at least, the young man is not the most selfless of people, and tends to live by a philosophy of the ends justifying the means. If he has done a good thing by using bad means, he considers it worth it, not against getting his hands dirty in order to help others. Yes, he is a reasonably kind young man, when he wants to be at least, and is the one who will step in and take the shadier jobs or responsibilities so that another person doesn't have to. He is the sort who refuses to admit to his generosity, though, that movie character who helps someone out and then lies through his teeth about his involvement until he is painted as a bad guy and is slapped by the heroine. He once convinced someone that he had been trying to seduce their crush, so that they wouldn't have to know that the crush had been using them in order to get to him.
He plays the villain, and acts as though he takes pleasure in this self-placement. Maybe he thinks that it makes him cool, but it is more likely that Marcus doesn't want to be seen as the idiot who is willing to put others before themselves. Besides, these actions and situations do not quite make him a pure-hearted person. Despite his secret-knight streak, he can actually be a very selfish guy, and many of his kind acts hurt other people in order to get his target to feel better. He focuses on specific people to be kind to, not just a broad range of people. He won't actively target people to be cruel to, but it does happen when people are in his way or what inconveniences them helps him reach his goals. His stubborn refusal to admit to any kindness leads him to be rather verbally vicious to people, after all, and those who know him, but do not know of this side, tend to dislike him to some extent. And, when it comes to being vicious, he is really quite gifted. Marcus slays people like Buffy slays vampires, and has a tongue so sharp that it is a wonder that he doesn't cut his own mouth on it.
In fact, he has more than once come off as a complete asshole without having intended to, hurting feelings when he wasn't intentionally playing his accustomed role of a complete prick. Like one of those cliche and slightly frustrating characters in a drama, he can be trying to comfort someone, and then wind up making a new enemy. It isn't too common, but only because Marcus doesn't tend to comfort a person with words- the whole secrecy thing, if one recalls. But he's frightfully stubborn, and won't admit that his intentions had been good from the beginning, instead becoming grumpy and frustrated and genuinely insulting them, digging him even deeper into a ditch. He rarely gets out of it, unless some slip shows the person his true intentions- that slip being either an unintentional hint towards a past act, or the amused explanation of someone who knows him very well.
Other than being awkward in a strange way, secretly nice, and painfully stubborn, Marcus is actually quite charming when he wants to be, having the typical Daniels family charisma. When he isn't playing the bad guy, or being strangely awkward, he is gifted at keeping his cool and charming the pants off of anyone who is being faced with the attempt. He doesn't often make an effort towards it, finding it tiresome, but is an ambitious person who isn't too far beyond manipulating others, complete strangers or close friends, into helping him. As previously mentioned, he may be inclined towards occasional silent kindnesses, but he is far from selfless. For the record, he is also quite fond of amusement, and isn't in the business of denying himself things he is fond of. Like a spoiled child, he likes to play games, and he likes to be in charge. When he really likes something, he tends to covet it, like the kid who refuses his toys. Yes, Marcus is very possessive under certain circumstances, but luckily they aren't overly common, as he tends to only like things, not really like things, and there is a distinct difference.
