§ . d e s c r i p t i o n . When one first lays on Madden, he is considered ruggedly handsome. Though tall and broad, he is not as athletic as his physique lets on. He has underlying muscle and maybe if he worked out more it would be more defined, but Madden is satisfied with his body's softness. A sharp jaw hidden by a ducktail beard he has been growing for the past year, much to his colleagues chagrin. Madden appears older than he is, with the many wrinkles along his brow and eyes. His blonde locks are slicked back to keep out of his eyes. His blue eyes are considered his best feature. It gives away the kind soul he tries to hide. Madden's ears are a sore subject. He's constantly been ridiculed for having ears too large and stick out too much, even nicknaming him Mouse. They fit his head now, but he still feels self-conscious about it.
Like his appearance, Madden's style is rugged as well. A work coat and Henley make up his day look, paired with some worn-in, blue jeans. Madden does not care for trends, preferring to keep to brands that have shown to be reliable and comfortable. He keeps his clothing practical, hard-wearing, and masculine. His clothing does not have very much range beyond plaid shirts, Henley's, and the few superhero T-shirts he allows himself. Madden does not care for what others see in his appearance. He will dress up if the situation calls for, but he detests suits and formal affairs. Work requires him to be in a business casual look, but he has been able to get away with wearing a graphic T-shirt if he has his lab coat on. Madden constantly wears a pair of black aviator sunglasses. It's a staple of his style, but he mostly just hates having the sun in his eyes.

Years of living in a dangerous town, he's learned how to navigate stressful and dangerous situations with a smile and relate to the common person. His academic knowledge is limited to his field and the few subjects he finds fascinating. Madden likes to learn, but it takes him longer for new things to stay with him. He does well in picking up on social cues and items others have missed, which makes him an excellent crime scene analyst.
§ . p e r s o n a l i t y . Many people look only at Madden's superficial layer. You'll find a quiet, gruff man who longs for people to simply leave him alone. Madden cares little for close friendships outside of the few he allows within his inner circle. He lacks any sort of decorum when speaking with people. Direct is the best way to speak in his opinion. However, he's learned when to keep his mouth shut and play nice as his supervisor calls it. Madden doesn't care for those who make careless mistakes and will be the first to send you out. He takes his job seriously and expects the same of others. Second chances from him are rarely given, as his kindness has it's limits.
Madden despises the cool front he takes with people, but he sees it as necessary. Madden is an enigma. He keeps people at arm’s length until he’s certain they can be trusted or until he’s certain that they won’t use his weaknesses against him. He’s a fighter and will fiercely protect the people he cares about. While Madden is ambitious and driven, he knows the value of family and relationships, putting his daughter's well-being above everything.

He can hold his own in a fight, but if against someone with more training or experience, Madden would go down.

Bellmead, Texas has the one of the highest crime rates in the United States. Born and raised in Bellmead, Madden was one of the few lucky ones to escape. A family of drug dealers was all he knew for most of his childhood. He would run drugs for his parents, and that was how he made money. Madden didn't like having to constantly be on guard, keeping an eye out for rival drug dealers or worrying about getting jumped any time he left the house. However, it was all he knew. Madden watched as his parents and five siblings were in and out of jail, leaving himself on his own. He found solace in the comic books he would steal from the nerds at his school. Madden liked the idea of someone keeping the bad guys away.
Madden had few who cared for him. If he wasn't selling drugs for his parents, they paid him no attention. He had Ashley, a fellow runner for the family's dealings. She was the closest thing he had to a friend, despite her clearly having an addition to the cocaine his family dealt. His siblings weren't much help either, either addicted or dealing. It wasn't until a his biology teacher, Mrs. Mason, at his high school introduced him to forensic science that Madden saw an escape. Madden was drawn to idea of playing detective through science. It gave him the out he craved. With Mrs. Mason's help, Madden was able to get himself into an out of state school. He became the top student in forensic science at the University of California. Shortly after graduating, he worked with local crime labs until he was recruited by California Bureau of Investigations.
His life back in Texas became forgotten until his mother called him, crying. His father was in the hospital from a bar brawl gone bad. Reluctantly, Madden went back to see everyone. It was a lie. His father had been arrested for dealing and his mother wanted him to pull some strings to get him out of it. Madden was disgusted, ignoring any attempt of fixing bonds. A night drinking at the local bar, and running into Ashley, lead to a one-night stand with lasting consequences. Ashley found herself to be pregnant and Madden refused to leave his child. He made Ashley go into rehab while she was pregnant, even staying in Bellmead temporarily to help take care of her. A few good things came out of his stay. His oldest sister, Kara, got sober with Madden's help, even moving to California to escape her family's influence. Madden's youngest brother, Joshua, ended up joining the marines, also needing an escape. Madden's father was sent to jail, but his mother and his two other siblings continued to deal.
During Ashley's pregnancy, a spark begin to fly with her and Madden. They attempted to explore a possible romance, but Ashley's addiction became an issue. She couldn't stay away from using so Madden cut ties with her, suing for full custody of Blair. It was a difficult case, but Ashley had gone back to deal and got caught. She was sent to jail, forfeiting her rights. Madden moved them both out to California to continue working with the California Bureau of Investigations. The single father life has been difficult, but Blair has become the light of his life. His sister helps out when he needs it, and he's built a happy life for himself despite the horrific things he sees at his job.
