Setting

A large, rather imposing building stood on a hill above Chapter, the ancestral home of the royal family, although the place has taken on a whole new meaning of late, since the Queen took over.

Trolls patrol the ramparts, and large dugeons have been excavated far beneath the place to hold prisoners of the regime.

The place is also where the council meet, an assortment of the Queen's most dastardly allies who meet to discuss matters of state...and of course the resistance problem.

The witch sipped at her tea, it was bitter no milk, no sugar.Tension, dark unnerveing tension cloaked the room a dark muderus intent made the air heavy, it was enough to make a grown man fall to his knees. For you, see dear Maud was bored and with nothing to appease this growing boredom her distaste for everything grew with it until it swallowed the room. The cup shook a little as she tightened her grip teeth biting her bottom lip, A small bead of blood formed she took no notice. Her hand was pale against the cup, against her dark clothes; everything about Maud was pale, except for her hair a striking black. This of course made her seem more vicious although to be anymore was already impossible.

She was a witch she had become one to get rid of the haunting boredom, the same reason she now stood with the queen, to feed her growing hunger for the interesting for … children, maybe although that hobby was already losing it's spark. An addiction is what she had and nothing could ever satisfy it, at least not yet. Who knows maybe this war is what she needed. She cocked her heard footsteps echoed outside her room down the hall …A visitor maybe or someone passing by, although the queen was the only whoever dared go near her quarters.

She turned her attention to her bitter tea. No matter who ever they were as long as they were interesting she didn’t care. If they weren’t however…. A small chuckle made it’s was up her throat a twisted hungry grin appeared For a mere moment only to be replaced by her ever present frown as the footsteps drew closer.

The tension in the room lifted a little as the queen made her entrance; however the unmistakable murderous intent remained. No she would never let her guard down it bothered her how some could let it down so easily, fools. Although Maud could she wasn’t exactly pleased with the queens entrance she made no comment on the matter, it wasn’t really worth the effort. The queen sat down beckoning a girl over in a motherly way.

Maud’s eyes took in the girl sizing her up; she was young much of her baby fat still adorning her features. She tottered a little as she walked hardly being able to carry the tray she was holding. "She's a plump little thing and has been fed well, think you not so?" Grimhilde, the queen reached out a hand and patted the girl on the top of her head.

“I suppose.” She said her voice indifferent, she hide her hunger well. “Come here child.” The girl completely although a little hesitantly, she glanced at the queen. When the queen made no move she came closer. Maud placed her cup on the table gripping the girls chin she tilted it to the side. The girl had begun to shake at the contact, fear now being showed in her eyes. Maud made no move to comfort her. She wasn’t the type to make false hope or promises , She never hid her intentions.

She finished her inspection. “Go play in the corner until you’re needed.” She said to the girl curtly motioning to spot on the floor where a few dusty toys lay. “Leave the spices on the table.” The girl complied confession showed easily enough. When the girl was far enough away. Maud thought it time to deal with the queen. “You said you needed something milady…”

Gambrill shifted back and forth in his small space, the chains around his ankles clattering as he tried to stretch his muscles. As the sunlight shone through the small cracks in his stall, it was days like these when he questioned why he was bound and chained where other servants to the Queen were not. Of course though she would come and give him reasons that made all the sense in the world, as if being here with his wings bound until he was to take flight was best for him. That woman seemed to be able to twist anyone with her sweet words and if not, that's why he was there, to scare them into her service.

As he stood there thinking, a sound caught his attention and with his good eye, he peered in between a crack spotting the Queen with a small child in tow. He watched them both quietly as they walked across the garden and back into the palace. Why did she suddenly have such a young servant? With a huff, he pulled away from the wall and thought it over until he realized the side of the palace she had entered, the one where children go in but never return, the witch. Shaking his head sadly, deep down he knew why he was in chains because they feared he might try to escape. Where would he go though? His home had been destroyed, everything was changing so its best to just sit back and accept his place now right?

Miss Goldie Lox made her way along one of the corridors of the castle. She was on a visit to the palace and to oversee distribution of another shipment of animal slaves. She stepped along at a brisk pace, blond curls bouncing in the flickering light of the torches. She had got her full costume on, the expensive dress and hair ornaments ...not to mention the large amount of makeup to cover the scars etched across her face.

Beside her trotted a rather nervous looking goat, Goldie's things hanging from his horns. He was Goldie's current assistant...not that he had a great dela of choice in the matter. If you were picked for such a job, you complied or you ended up being sent as a breakfast for The Wolf. He trotted along as quietly as he could manage, trying to balance the numerous items dangling from his horns.

Grimhilde smoothed her skirts out with her hands, taking care to make them look nice as she arranged them in an artistic semi-circle around her feet. "Yes, I did wish to speak with you about certain matters which have been providing me with an utmost concern for the well-being of the Kingdom," she looked up from her skirts and smiled at Maud. The aura of bad intent which wafted off of the witch was unpleasant, to say the least, but Grimhilde would be damned if she showed herself in the slightest bit affected by it. She would hold on to this Kingdom with her cold, dead hands if she had to and nobody was ever going to do anything to stop her.

Her nostrils flared as she remembered Snow White. Silly, stupid, foolish Snow White who had dared to be called more fair that Grimhilde herself. And now hey all knew - now they all knew what happened to those who dared oppose her. They better know. She would order them all gutted.

"Ah, were was I..." Grimhilde let out a tinkling peal of laughter as she came back to her previous attentions. She was beginning to get more and more accustomed to the pendulous moods of the witch and at times the murderous aura which surrounded Maud was even soothing. It was good to be on one's guard. Grimhilde inwardly applauded Maud for that bit. "I have been plagued, and for the longest and most annoying time these days, by the ragtag band of misfits who dare to dub themselves as 'the Resistance'" Grimhilde spread her hands apart, as if to wordlessly say 'see what filth we have to deal with'?

"What I was wishing to ask of you was whether or not 'twas in your power to, let's say, shorten them by a few of their own."

Lottie made her way down the corridors, halberd balanced on one shoulder. She had just finished with taking care of a few 'undesirables' which the Queen had asked her to dispose of. Lottie did not mind. It was her job and she was hellbent on doing good at it. And maybe if she did really, really well...maybe then she would forgive herself for her shoddy job of being a mother. Her baby. Her little baby. Her precious girl. Gone gone gone gone gone...

Lottie bit down hard on the inside of her cheek, drawing blood, while simultaneously preventing herself from crying. Crying was for the weak. She must not cry over the past. There was nothing but the future now and if she was not stronger to face it, then how would she ever be useful again?

She almost did not see Miss Goldie Lox heading up around the corner. Lottie ground to a halt just in case, stopping herself from running into the blond woman. That would not have been good...it was never good to accidentally bump oneself into another...though people really should look where they were going.

"Hello, Miss Goldie Lox." Lottie spoke, even and calm, and her lips spread into a polite social smile. "Your day is going well, I trust?"

Karen leaned against the wall a moment, steadying herself.
She had been in the torture chamber, dealing with an old prisoner who had been rotting in the castle for ages, it was time someone put him out of his misery. Not that she killed him, she never did that, it was just that ever since she had been appointed head of torture in the palace there had been an increased number of prisoner suicides... or at least, attempted suicides in some cases.
Taking a deep breath, she started to hobble along the corridor, the bulky boxes of wood that served as her feet were not helping her balance and meant she had to rely upon the crutches even more.
The Queen had not ordered her to torture the man, Karen had just felt like it. She did not fear the queen, nor did she fear death. Karen no longer understood what fear was, all that rested in her head was... insanity? Paranoia? She did not know, they all seemed the same to her at the moment.
One thing was incredibly clear and haunted her mind day and night.
Those red shoes.
They were still up there... in her room... in their glass case... dancing and dancing and dancing and dancing...
Tap tap tap. Tap. Tap tap. Tap tap t-tap.
Over and over and over again.
Sometimes Karen could not help but wonder where they got their energy from. After all, there was no person to steer them. And everyone gets tired after dancing too long, especially feet. But why weren't they tired? Why did they not stop? Why could they not stop?
Shaking her head, she continued to slowly make her way along.
However she had barely got much further when she saw a small group congregating up ahead. Lykos, Lottie and Lox. The three L's. How amusing. For the briefest of moments, she glanced enviously at the pretty girls.
Was she really so different to them? Was she really so vain? Was there such a greater evil in her that it was she who needed to be punished rather than them? Why should she suffer when they did not? Why should they dance when she could not?
But she ignored these thoughts, continuing to make her way along, choosing to ignore them. It was not like they would pay any attention to her. Why should they? She was nothing more than a crazy torturer... she wasn't important.
Without the shoes, she was nothing.

‘Tap tap tap.’ went Maud’s fingertips as she lightly drummed her tea cup, pretending to mule over about the queen’s request; of course a couple of solutions had come to mind immediately. Maud however had always been a little pity about such things, preferring to make people anxious or just plain annoyed. Weather this was foolish considering who she was doing it to, she didn’t care. “I wouldn’t think with your many followers you’d have so much trouble of finding a couple of mere misfits.” She teased a mocking tone underlining it. She continued before the queen could reply.

“There are ways.” She continued . “I know curses that would do the trick but all of them require hard to find ingredients, some of which I don’t have available here.” She made a small motion behind to where shelves were overflowing with sealed flasks and paper pages. “I could use a spell to find the location of their base but I would need someone who has pervious knowledge of it’s were abouts, if their base is protected by magic however it might take a lot longer than we would want to wait.”

She leaned back in her seat. “You and I both know according your feedback of their recent activity we might not have the time, before they make their move.” She stopped there letting the thoughtful silence came back to the room. Picking up her cup she downed the rest of it in one gulp, getting up she moved to the back of the room leaving the queen to think about what she said. She refilled her glass as well as making another for the queen not bothering with sugar or milk consider she had known anyways, she would have to drink it black or not at all. She carried it back sat herself down placing the tea in front of the queen and awaited her thoughts on the matter.

"Misfits can be most unpleasant if grouped together under a single goal," said Grimhilde, patiently waiting for Madu to stop speaking, as she accepted the tea which was placed in front of her. She brought the concoction to her nose and took a whiff, savoring both the smell of the tea and checking whether or not there was anything in it which was unpleasant. Grimhilde was good with poisons and fancied herself able to distinguish something poisoned from something which was safe. However, one could never be sure.

"Curses are a lovely idea, Maud," Grimhilde smiled and took a sip of the tea. It was bitter stuff, yet pleasantly so. "Yet, you are right, we have not the time which would make something as such possible." She set the teacup back down on the table and leaned back in her seat, thinking.

But they could not merely sit on by and idly sip tea while the Resistance came a-knocking. "We must fortify our defenses and those who stand with us," Grimhilde said, her eyes flashing as she got into a more 'all business' mood. "I shall be in need of charms and enchantments for the most elite of my followers. I trust you have what you need for such an endeavor, and if you are lacking in something, then I trust it will be acquired. Charms and enchantments for now, then. And if there is a curse which is easily done, then that would be very pleasing."

Grimhilde smiled and got up from her seat, taking her golden mirror. "I will leave you with your dinner, Maud. If you have need of anything, do come by."

---

"I am doing well, thank you. Have either of the two of you seen Karen?" Lottie inquired, looking first at Goldie and then at Lykos. There were things she wished to discuss with Karen relating to the torture and butchering of those who did not comply. Lottie was rather fond of Karen, but not fond enough to feel any sympathy. Nobody deserved sympathy, for they should grow themselves a spine.

"And I am sure our Queen would be most pleased with new servants, Miss Goldie. 'Tis good that things are going well." She turned to Lykos, her social smile still plastered across her face. "Are you going to see her Majesty, Mr. Lykos? I have heard that she is in good spirits lately."

Lottie heard the sound of cobbled feet and turned, only to see Karen. "I have been looking for you," she said, tilting her head as a hello of sorts.

Maud watched the queen leave she sat there for a minute finishing her tea her hunger settling itself down, at least for now. She got up taking the cups to the sink. Charms and spells for her followers, not all of them only the strongest the others were nothing more than trash. A charm or detecting someone who means you harm yes that would good. I need oxen blood and powered moth wing. She went to her overflowing shelves idly drawing her finger over flasks in turn. A curse what was a good one. She stopped her hand landing on a particular jar, she picked it up inside was a baby heart, of one yet to be born. Getting it had been very hard; she had dug it up after the parents had barely buried the thing, what a waste.

She glanced at the shelve again, yes had everything except one ingredient. It was however not to hard to find, she would have someone fetch it for her when she was finished with everything else. The curse would turn anyone that stepped even a foot in the palace ,who had bad intention against the queen, would be turned to stone. It wasn’t prefect however if the persons killing intent was only little they could pass though, this would stop mere servants from turning to stone and other alike. It wouldn’t work for anyone who was already in the palace when she placed it. The subject wouldn’t be fully turned for an hour, it would slow them down however and eventually insure their death, if countermeasures weren’t taken. Maud’s magic was strong not just anyone could do that.

A small shuffling noise came from the corner. Maud looked at the little girl she had almost forgotten about her. She set the jar down on a nearby table. She would eat first and then get to work no point in doing something on an empty stomach.
“Came here child.” She beckoned. The little girl complied.

Maud strolled through the halls; her murderous feelings close behind her, one pale hand clasped her skirts holding them slightly up as she walked. She had thrown on a light cloak and had tied her hair up before she left; she found the palace to be chilly and kept her own chambers at a high temperature always. She avoid places where there were many servants, she despised peoples Company unless there was a reason for it. She had barely finished with her current items and spells for the queen; she had given them to one of the few servant who were under her care, take them to her, while she tended to other business.

The items she had sent to the queen included twelve daggers that would kill anyone insistently if they were to taste even a speck of the person’s blood. Ten charms that detect a enemies presence form a mile away. Five charms that helped you camouflage easier with your surroundings. Several tracking charms of the highest power, she had made sure nothing could interfere with them. Three talismans that if feed a drop of someone’s blood or hair could make them go under the user’s power. It was up to the queen to find whatever uses out of them.
Maud rounded another corner, passing a servant who had pressed herself against the wall trembling. Maud merely kept her eyes ahead ignoring the trash. The servants weren’t use to her being out her chambers and no doubt whispers of her being out and about would now travel the castle quickly , Hopefully making people careful to avoid her so she didn’t have to deal with them.

She had almost sent a servant to do the task for her, but had decided against it. After all they would probably just end up dead for asking such a question to the wolf himself. You see for the last ingredient for the curse, she needed the blood of a cursed man, and who better then the wolf. Most would wonder how she knew this, she was a witch she could spot the curse as soon as she first laid eyes one him. She had hidden a dagger under her skirts if he were to be less than happy of her asking, If he were to say no, well shed take it anyways.

Maud looked down the end of yet another hallway. At this point the annoyance and murderous intent where thick around her. Located the wolf had been harder then accepted No matter she would us a simpler method. Maud scowled stopping for a moment. She got a small charm; one for locating it was short distance one simple to make it should work perfectly for this inconvenience.

She hung the charm in front of her focusing on the wolf, soon the charm started spinning stopping and pointing down the left corridor. Maud set off her walk more brisk reflecting her current state of mind. She could feel a little hunger boiling up at the edge of her conscious, how irritating. She stopped finally spotting the wolf across the outer courtyard. She stopped taking a moment to collect herself. She would not allow someone to see her fualtered. Her face set in its usual neutral tone, her eyes held a more hungry look to them; she walked over to ‘her’ as was his current form, taking her time.

"Good Morning Maud."The wolf said as walked over to meet him. "Do you need me for something?"

Maud stopped frowning a little at the wolfs manner, she knew she got a kick out of changing genders but really. “Yes I do need your assistance of sorts.” She said not bothering with a greeting of any sorts. “I’m making a spell for around the castle and need a drop of cursed mans blood.”

She stopped reaching into her cloak she brought out a small flask. Holding it between them.

Maud felt the corners of her lips turn down into a frown as the wolf warped himself into another form. This time he chose the form of a child; blue eyes looked up at her unnatural teeth grinning. She shifted her eyes to the spot above his head.
“I have no interest in playing games wolf.” She said her tone slightly sharp. “The curse will in no way effect you, it a protection for the castle.”
She reached under her long skirt pulling out a small dagger. “Now would you rather do it yourself or have me do it.” She asked.

Maud felt annoyance rise out of her usually calm demeanor ,thickening the already tense atmosphere around her. The wolf had always annoyed her , he was a bothersome thing.
"Cry if you wish wolf it won't bother me in the slightest" Maud said as she reached out making a quick cut on his hand dripping the red liquid into the small flask, She held it up looking at it "This will do." She said. She placed it back in her cloak. She pulled away from the wolf.

Maud finished adding the werewolf’s blood to the spell. She could already feel it taking effect as it surrounded the castle. “With this the resistance will have a hard time crossing our grounds.” She muttered to herself. She walked over the small table and poured herself another brimming cup of tea. Maybe it was about time she were to get a servant of her own. Someone to torture if she was bored and to all the labour tasks, she currently had to do herself with magic.

May be a talking animal would do, at least until she got into another foul mode. Those annoyances never lasted long with her. Goldilocks was holding trade day soon wasn’t she. While they witch hardly ever attended those things maybe she should this one.

“It might starve off a little boredom and if not I can make it interesting.” A twisted smile fell on to the witches lips.
