"Live life free or not at all. It's your choice, I cannot be the decider. I will be, however, a defender."

Image
Name: Na'ari Azura

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Theme Songs:

Physical Description: "Blessed by Dragons," that is what the native denizens of the Valsir province call Red hair combined with red eyes. Na'ari stands 5'9" tall with a wiry appearance in terms of muscle. He wears the usual clothing of a tunic, along with pants made from leather when not in a battle. He also has two unique coats. A white one for spring/summer, and a black one for fall/winter.

Equipment: Draconil: A broadsword measuring five feet in blade length. Na'ari states he forged the metal of the blade himself but refuses to give up the secrets of the components.

Armor: He hand picked his armor for specific comfort of his use for his blade.

Strengths: Forger-He doubles not only as a warrior, but as a blacksmith as well, and he is talented at it. He claims he hand forged Draconil, his primary weapon, himself.

Adept swordsman- "You have to use the blade you forge for yourself." As his Father used to say. And Na'ari practices for hours on end. He is good, but there is ample room for improvement.

Weaknesses: Stubborn-He has an innate stubbornness born from distrust of other people, and this has lead him to be secretive on certain parts of his life, especially on how his Blade was forged.

Ranged attacks-As he has no range weapon, he'd be a sitting duck if Archers were to attack him.

His Mind-He has some form of condition in the mind where he cannot properly ascertain certain body languages, and makes him a bit of a short fuse in terms of anger when seeing things he doesn't like.

Image
Personality: The new recruit of the Dragon Fang band, Na'ari is everything you'd expect a newbie to be. Eager, impulsive, and overall stubborn. He loves to make new friends and is active in doing so at times, though sometimes he fails at it when they're trying to be friends with him. This is due to the fact he's slightly distracting of people, initially when meeting new people. And is secretive about the details of his life. But once said person becomes his friend, he is a loyal person, willing to put his life on the line if need be.

His biggest weakness however, is his own mind. Na'ari has a strange inability to understand certain gestures and body language cues. It's also made him slightly volatile in terms of anger. Yet it has it's perks too, as he is fond of making new things with the forge. But it's also a social weakness as if he meets a beautiful woman, he'd probably instantly get nervous and lose focus for a time.

Likes: Women, Forging, Fighting, singing, Justice, life.

Dislikes: Injustice, misery, death, suffering.

History: Na'ari Azura was born to a well known family of craftsmen and forgers, in the kingdom, but despite this slight prestige, his origins are nevertheless humble. He was an only child, "Blessed by a Dragon" or born with red hair and eyes. As a youth he found it hard to make friends because he couldn't understand certain things and was distinctly quiet. The other children made fun of him for this and simply drove him to his grandfather's workshop and forge. His Grandfather, a kind and understanding man, was a great lover of music, and in exchange for listening to Na'ari sing for a time, he taught him metallurgy, and the art of the blacksmith. He then showed his greatest treasure to him, several large slabs of black rock that he claimed "fell from the sky." Na'ari could tell some of it was metallic and wondered, if done right, it could be forged into beautiful works of art.

When he was Eight, he asked his grandfather if he could learn how to use a real sword. His grandfather obliged in teaching him how to fight, but told him his Father would have to teach him as well. It was then he learned how to fight with a blade, as well as defend himself. Eventually, he grew into his teens and fell in love with a beautiful girl from his village. Long did he want to be with her, and often dreamed of life with her as his wife. Then, everything changed when a raiding band of mercenaries attacked his home. He helped quell the attack by driving them off with the other defenders of the village, but the girl he fell for was killed. She died in his arms.

Infuriated at himself for being unable to protect someone he cared for, Na'ari opted to leave his village. But his grandfather instead pointed him to the Valsir mountains north of his village. There he would find his Grandfather's first forge, and that if Na'ari's dream of defending is what he wanted, he'd build the tool to do so. "But it will take all of your skill to survive alone, the mountains have dragons in them."

Na'ari left home, carrying some of the best known steel, along with a few pieces of his Grandfather's Sky Metal. There he lived throughout his teens, forging the tool he needed to defend people. When he was twenty, he reemerged as a Mercenary Warrior known as "The King of Dragons". He roamed from battle to battle, fighting to protect innocent people from the carnage of the civil war. He has done this for a year, and was recently recruited by Dragon Fang, on the condition he drop his title, being told that title didn't suit him yet.

Other: He has a scar on his arm from the fateful battle that sent him on this course as a warrior.

The sun rose quietly upon the Kerindar fields. It's light fell upon the camp that was settled along the border of the eastern woods. Several of the mercenaries who lived in this camp were already making their rounds. The cooks were making breakfast, and the early bird soldiers were getting their weapons and practicing. The Boss was still asleep, so Rosaria was stretching and getting her attire on for the day, she would have to entertain again.

"Life cannot be easier. But I have no choice, my plans are at stake too much. For now, I shall play the part. Rose Silver is now ready for work... I think I shall visit the newbie." she thought as she smiled wickedly in her mind. On the outside, she smiled only cheerfully. She walked around the campsite looking for the new member of Dragon Fang.

Then she found him, five feet nine inches, looking inside the blacksmith tent. He was given questions of his talents late into the night by the Boss. Thus he was assigned to the job of secondary blacksmith, which means on the battlefield he'd be a grunt. An ant Rose could care for, and Rosalia could put down if need be. How delightful the feeling was in her mind, she had heard of the mercenary who called himself a 'King of Dragons' but in the Dragon Fang the only person who could call himself that was the Boss.

Na'ari in the meanwhile was studying the various metals in the tent assigned to him. He looked at their qualities and the way they were refined. "Some of these metals are cheap. Why do they always not go for the quality stuff in mercenary bands?" he wondered aloud as he rubbed his red hair looking around. He then took a look inside the forge he'd be working with and frowned. It was a sooty mess. He swore under his breath.

"Ooh, language? Of that caliber? You need to control your mouth. Especially around a lady." at emphasis of the last word, Rose opened up her fan to cover her face. "You are definitely a cutie. Red head, tall, with an interesting taste for fashion." with that she tugged on his white coat with a free hand.

"Yipe!" Na'ari shouted in surprise. He backed up a good foot.

"Oh, sorry! I didn't mean to scare you there! I'm Rose, what's your name?"

"Na'ari, Na'ari Azura." He replied, and Rose gave a soft smile. In her mind she felt like puking. Valsir province name. But the family he hailed from was famous for crafting wonderful art, be it weapons or jewels. She bit her lip and fanned herself in excitement, she could have him make jewels!

"Well, Na'ari, let me be the first to welcome you to our merry band of warriors. Men and Women flock to us to aid in the war on either side, if the price is right. Want something to eat? My treat." Rose fluttered her eyes to look even more stunning. She'd wrap this one up around her finger like the other men in the band. To her satisfaction, the red headed man nodded.

Smiling Rose lead him to the mess tent, where hopefully the two would mingle for breakfast, and then she'd introduce him to her other friends, if Bjork wasn't being stupid somewhere, and if Lorelei wasn't asleep still. "With the friends I'm gathering, I could form them into a squad, but of course, I cannot be a leader. I'm just a dancer for reserves." Rosaria smiled.

Soon, her plans for the throne would begin. But she wasn't alone in the game, her siblings were working on their plans too.

In the early morning one always knew where you could find Bjork Wyninn, sleeping soundly in a position which could seem impossible for a human body. But every night he rolled around in his sleep, finding numerous of new ways to position his body. Sometimes even on the bare ground without noticing it or waking up. Calling him a heavy sleeper would probably be an understatement.

Lorelei was another story however, you could say that her mornings was rather unpredictable. If she didn't have anything she knew she needed to do, she could be wandering off into the distant, lying on the ground while staring up at the sky or just sitting somewhere and keeping her hands occupied. This morning was one of the later ones. She was busy maintaining her lute, checking the strings and their sound. The last time she had played it she had gotten this feeling that something was off with the notes. This scene took place in front of her breakfast, she hadn't even touched the food yet. It just lied there, it was not that she wasn't hungry, it was just that today she didn't have any appetite. And the food didn't do any good to the feeling either.

While she sat there minding her own business, the lute, she by chance rose her eyes for a split second noticing that some more joined those who ate. Or Rose led someone new into the tent, a male one - no surprise there. Lorelei guessed that perhaps it was so that Rose showed him around, but apparently not since they didn't walk out again right away. In the back of her mind Lorelei thought that she perhaps was supposed to know who this newbie was, or at least know that someone new had joined their group. But no, she had missed that information. Or perhaps they had just not shared it with her from the beginning.

Either way, Lorelei smiled brightly towards the new one and Rose as they came closer, "Such a lovely morning we've been granted with today." Just when she ended the sentence she turned more towards the male one, "I don't think I've seen you around before, are you new? Perhaps we just haven't met yet, I'm Lorelei Phyrra."

While Lorelei introduced herself another person joined the tent, looking more asleep than awake, hair standing out towards every direction and heavy eyelids. With a groan Bjork sat down beside Lorelei without even saying anything to anyone of them, he just continued to groan in discomfort. Longing for more sleep and in somewhat in a grumpy mood since he had been woken up right before. After a few moments with jawing Bjork's eyes hit the untouched food however, with a few quick glances to see if anyone was going to touch it he stole all of the food and started to eat it. Lorelei just watched as it happened, laughing slightly.

Rose smiled when her eyes fell on Lorelei tuning her lute. She tugged on Na'ari's arm to go to the table, nearly tearing the arm off as he followed to prevent such a thing. Rose let go and fixed her hair with a free hand before closing her fan, before comfortably sitting down herself. "Such a lovely morning we've been granted with today." Rose merely nodded in agreement. She thought about replying to her, but she then noticed her attention turning to Na'ari.

"Did she not get the news? I swore most of the soldiers heard about the Boss's negotiations late into the night with the King of Dragons, or in the least, Na'ari. I'm sure the boss had him drop that title." her thoughts brewed and formed in her head silently. Rose's thoughts would've gone further, however, her train of thought, as well as Na'ari's, who was pondering about what to eat for breakfast, got interrupted.

"I don't think I've seen you around here before, are you new? Perhaps we haven't met yet, I'm Lorelei Phyrra." Na'ari paused in his thinking, red eyes silently scanning her. A musician of some kind by the lute. He was about to say something but then the arrival of another man interrupted him. He groaned all the way to the chair. "This man is obviously not a morning person." he thought. The man then swiped Lorelei's food as Rose stared in disbelief.

"Bjork! That's rude! At least thank Lorelei for having her allow you to eat from her plate!" Rose stated as she scoffed in disbelief. Na'ari tried to hold his laughter from Rose's reaction. He thought now would be a good time to introduce himself.

"Yes I am new here Miss Phyrra. I got hired on late last night. I'm Na'ari Azura, a new Blacksmith. I'll also be fighting with everyone in this merry band. Especially hungry individuals like the man who is obviously not a morning person. You wide awake with something in your stomach now mate?" he asked, after giving a formal introduction. If people in the band were like these three individuals, he'd have no problem fitting in. Being a solo mercenary was dangerous, so he was glad to get hired into a group.

"Bjork! That's rude! At least thank Lorelei for having her allow you to eat from her plate!"

Bjork glanced sluggish towards Rose's ranting while continuing to chew the food that clearly wasn't his, not answering or asking for forgiveness either. He was acting like a defiant child, showing disrespect towards his mother who was telling him he did wrong. Even though he normally would ask for Lorelei's permission before taking her food but it was his morning mood that was acting out fully by now. So he just continued to give Rose glares while hovering over the food, protecting it from being stolen from him.

"Yes I am new here Miss Phyrra. I got hired on late last night. I'm Na'ari Azura, a new Blacksmith. I'll also be fighting with everyone in this merry band. Especially hungry individuals like the man who is obviously not a morning person. You wide awake with something in your stomach now mate?"

With a glare Bjork greeted the new one, believing that he would steal the little that was left of the breakfast if he let it go to great the man. But since he continued to act like a rude child Lorelei lightly smacked the back of his head, "That's not how you're supposed to act Bjork. He's just trying to be nice and you don't even answer, its fine I don't care about the food. I wasn't hungry anyway but come one, stop acting like this."

Bjork glanced towards Lorelei while stuffing his face with the last pieces, making it unable for everyone to steal it from him and with that he started to grin widely. From being so sulky and bad-tempered he suddenly was in a light mood, "Nice to meet you Na'ari! So a blacksmith, huh? That sounds so fun!" With all of his energy getting back Bjork jumped up on his feet's again, now more awake he looked closer at the new guy, noticing that he was shorter than Bjork and Bjork had never felt that tall. With that Bjork had an instant appreciation for the man just because of that.

Just as Bjork was about to leave the tent and drag the poor guy with him he realized that he hadn't even introduced himself yet, "Oh, oh, oh! I'm Bjork Wyninn by the way! Want to see my swords, I have two of them!"

Lorelei rolled her eyes while still silently smiling towards the others, "Come on Bjork, give the man some space. I think he came all the way here to eat just like you, not to be dragged away to be forced to watch you show of your belongings."

In an instant Bjork stoped moving around and looked first quietly at Lorelei before eyeing Na'ari as well afterwards, "Oh... I apologize..."

Na'ari just sat there, his stare meeting the glare given to him by the man, who was a head or two taller then he was. Not that he minded it. He just didn't want to look intimidated. Then the man was hit by Lorelei, albeit lightly, in a scolding fashion. "That's not how you're supposed to act Bjork. He's trying to be nice, and you don't even answer, it's fine, I don't care about the food, I wasn't hungry anyway, but come on, stop acting like this."

Na'ari raised an eyebrow inquisitively as the man called Bjork finished his meal. Then all of a sudden, his mood and activity changed dramatically. "Nice to meet you Na'ari! So a blacksmith huh? That's sounds so fun!" Rose rolled her eyes at his statement. Though it did fascinate her in some degrees. She half wondered if he could craft anything that has to do with metal.

Bjork almost excitedly wanted to take Na'ari to where he kept his swords it seemed, and Rose puffed her cheeks out in slight annoyance. But it was Lorelei who threw reason in by telling him that he was probably hungry. To that Bjork sat quietly before replng, "Oh... I apologize."

"No need to be sorry, you didn't know is all. I'll admit it's been days since I had a decent meal..." the moment he said that his eyes fell on where the food was being served, and he got up to grab a plate. When he returned he began to wolf down everything he had on the plate. Rose paled in reaction before patting his back. "Slow down dearie... You'll get a stomachache if you do that." Na'ari looked at her and swallowed what was in his mouth embarrassed. He awkwardly grabbed a cup filled with water and drank a swig.

"That's better, anyway guys, I heard that Lord Darion hired us to check out the surrounding woods this afternoon. Probably to see if the Count's forces are hiding somewhere. But the local villagers are saying those woods have some form of monsters. Can you believe the superstitions they pull?"

"You can't blame them, if I saw a dragon or a gryphon's nest in the woods, I'd be scared too. But not as much as a common villager." Na'ari took another swig of water. He gave a small sigh of relief. Rose pouted but didn't give Na'ari's comment any mind.

"I wonder if any of my siblings are hiding out there...if so, I'll have to deal with them." she thought silently.

"So Bjork, and Lorelei right? Nice to meet the both of you again and I hope that we'll work splendidly together." Na'ari stated. Rose smiled even more. This interaction was working better then planned. Now she has to find a way to make them into a cohesive group, one that she'll be a part of indirectly. Then, her ambitious plans would kickstart, and she'll slowly work her way towards the throne.

While the newbie left the table to fetch some food Lorelei yet again directed her attention towards the lute, listening to its sound to see if it was fine by now. And as she did that Bjork almost leaned over her, watching intensely how the act was performed. Not because he was interested in the whole tuning of the lute but the thought of trying to play it excited him. "Hey, hey, Lorelei?"

When her name was called Lorelei's averted her eyes from the lute from a short moment, looking up at Bjork, "Yes Bjork, was is it now?"

With a wide grin Bjork almost started to jump up and down on the chair, in his mind his question had an obvious answer. And that answer was yes, so of course he was excited since he thought he would actually be allowed to try playing the lute. "Can I try to play your lute? It looks so fun! Can I try, please?"

For a short moment as the question was asked Lorelei's smile that seemed to be glued stuck to her face disappeared for a short moment, but as fast as it had vanished it reappeared on her face again. Putting on that friendly front towards all the other's she just shake her head slightly before adding, "No, sorry Bjork but it's important to me so..."

Bjork's excitement disappeared in an instant and he sat still again, watching her return her attention towards the thing he wasn't allowed to touch. He had tried her bow once - that was not something she had denied him. Even though he had been horrible at it, it had been fun to just try. Even though Bjork at the moment was sulking he took the time to watch the new guy return from the serving place. As the man started to gobble down the food just as Bjork had been a slight moment ago it still amused Bjork so a small smile started to play on his lips. The thing that amused him was how Rose was acting all mother like towards the newbie as well and telling him that he did wrong.

But after that the two's discussion didn't only capture Bjork's attention but also Lorelei's. Both of them listened closely as Rose brought up some new assignment they had gotten and even though at least Lorelei tried to cover the wrinkle she got between her eyebrows as the monster thing was mentioned she didn't succeed. Bjork was simply too dull to realize how dangerous something like that could be, he was just excited about a new job.

"So Bjork, and Lorelei right? Nice to meet the both of you again and I hope that we'll work splendidly together." Both Lorelei and Bjork returned the statement with smiling faces, Bjork's slightly bigger however - but that wasn't any surprise. He always smiled so big that his teeth's was showing.

"I can't see any reasons to why we wouldn't. But I guess it's time for me to prepare so I'm done when they call us," Just after she stopped speaking she nodded towards the three of them before standing up, "Well, we'll meet again later."

When Lorelei left the tent Bjork looked after her, pondering over what she had said. Getting ready, at first he found it odd since she already was dressed and all. But in the end he realized that she still had armor pieces that wasn't on yet and that she probably needed to get the bow done as well as picking out her arrows. When he realized that he came to the conclusion that he as well had to prepare so he jumped to his feet's with a smile, "I need to prepare some things as well, so see you!" While he started to run out of the tent he waved wildly, "Byee!"

I can't see any reasons why we wouldn't. But I guess it's time for me to prepare so I'm done when they call us. Well, we'll meet again later." Lorelei nodded and left the tent. Na'ari felt confused as to why she left to get ready so soon after breakfast. But he assumed he would know soon, as he then saw Bjork leave the tent in a hurry for the same reason.

"I assume this means you'll have to go clean your new forge, and get ready? Poor little Na'ari...Na'ari Sounds like a mouthful. What does it mean anyway?" Rose asked, trying to make conversation with him, and slightly expand her knowledge of thinking. Na'ari only smiled.

"It means whatever one wishes it to be." he stated, giving out a cryptic answer. To tell the truth, he was unsure what it meant either. Valsir was once a great kingdom of its own before Kerindar converted it to a province in its growing power. So few clans and elders still cling to the memory of Valsir, and it's worship of the Great Dragons. But as there are so few, most Valsirians do not remember the language it once had. "Well, I guess I should go if my morning is gonna be busy. Nice meeting you Miss Silver."

Rose smiled cheerfully and waved him goodbye, watching him leave. However, deep in the recess of her mind, Rosaria plotted. Even though she felt like she should strangle him for being cryptic in denying her answer, she needed to maintain her cover and Na'ari's skills as a mercenary swordsman would be most useful.

---

The hours passed as Rose was in her armor looking at a path into the forest. She waited for her comrades to arrive as she heard the clinking of an approaching man in armor. When she turned in a slight startle, she found it was only Na'ari. But oh, how he looked in his armor. It looked like it hugged and form fitted his frame, and his armored boots made him an inch or two taller then he really was. Strapped on him was a sheath that housed a sword that almost matched him in length.

Na'ari had his helmet on and shifted his right shoulder, to make the blade, Draconil he called it, be more comfortable on his back. He looked at Rose and noted how even though she was wearing armor, She didn't want to hide her curves and had it adjusted accordingly. "You look ready for battle."

"As do you. We will wait for the others then we will cover the eastern part of the woods, according to the instructions I received from the Boss. We are to watch for suspicious activity. But anything larger then Bjork and meaner then a wolf, we withdraw immediately. Think you can handle that?"

Na'ari only nodded as he waited for Bjork and Lorelei. He half wondered what they looked when they went out into battle or on assignments like this one. He could not wait to get started.

Once she was told that it was time to head out Lorelei did so dressed in her light leather armor, since she needed to rely on her ability to move her arms and be agile. But since she had no need for such a heavy armor as the other since she just was in the back and she need her ability to move around freely. She relied on her agility and arm movements, and a light leather armor was better than none at all. So in her complete accoutrements with her hair tied to the back of her head in a horsetail to keep it out of her face she joined the other's which was already waiting for her and Bjork.

With a smile she stopped beside them before adding with more of a smirk, "So, we meet again newbie, you’re all prepared to go out into war it seems. But aren't this more of a stealth mission?" She was joking with him obviously, but even though she did say it like a joke she did wonder how this mission was supposed to work out. If they were supposed to look for suspicious activity wasn't the main thing to focus on stealth instead of heavy armors like both of them was wearing. In her opinion it looked like the both of them was going out to stand on the front line instead of moving in the shadows - which she herself thought was something that was required. The sound their armors would be making wasn't exactly the best if you tried to move unnoticed.

In the end Bjork came running as well, as time had gone by he had forgotten all about it. Being too busy doing... nothing at all actually. Well nothing of importance. So when another mate of theirs had pointed out that he indeed had something to be preparing for and that time was running out Bjork had gotten busy real fast. Panicking actually. He knew that the other's was waiting for him so he felt a bit ashamed for being so empty minded. In the end he had actually happened to dress up in different armor pieces, he took what he had found lying around. He didn't have time to search for the complete thing. But even though he was a mess, it wasn't that bad, only someone familiar to the two different armors he had would notice that this was a mix of both of them. And probably an addition of someone else’s piece as well if that had been lying around on the ground.

Out of breath and flustered Bjork bent forward as he reached the other's, placing his hands on his knees as he panted, "H-hey, sorry... for being late... I forgot ab-about time..."

Lorelei watched Bjork where he stood and panted like some dog, wrinkling her nose in disbelief when he told them that he had forgotten about the time. Sometimes she couldn't stand him at all, probably because he and she was so different when it came to some things. Like organization and time management. She was a maniac who couldn't stand when things wasn't at their exact positions and people couldn't keep track of time while Bjork was... Well, Bjork was a hot mess.

"So, we meet again newbie, you're all prepared to go out to war it seems. But aren't this more of a stealth mission?" Na'ari looked at Lorelei as she said this. "Don't worry too much. One knows how to be quiet even in the heaviest of armor, depending on the material. I cannot say the same for Miss Silver's, her chain mail might be an issue."

"Hey! I'm right here! What's wrong with my outfit?! Gah, anyway-" before she could explain what she said to Na'ari to Lorelei, Bjork showed up, looking like a mess and apologizing for being late. Rose noticed that Lorelei was looking at Bjork in an annoyed fashion. "Alright guys just listen. The boss assigned me, and people of my pick, that's you three, to check out the eastern part of the woods here. Yes we are to look for enemies Lorelei, but if an ambush were to arise and a fight is necessary, we have to be prepared. Also, the villagers seem nervous about monsters, and since we are so few, we can't take on one. So any creature bigger then Bjork is to be left alone. Is that clear?"

Na'ari nodded and as soon as the others acknowledged Rose then gestured for them to follow her as they went into the woods. After what seemed like a long stroll, She stopped the group and looked at some strange tracks. "What...the hell? I don't know what these tracks are, I see several footprints but these here, at the center I cannot seem to make out." Na'ari tapped her shoulder, startling her and gestured to see if he could look as Rose looked at him scoldingly before allowing him to look. Na'ari traced one of the strange tracks at the edge and pondered a long time.

"Well? Anything familiar to you Na'ari or is it just a fluke of getting more credit with us?' Rose said with light sarcasm as Na'ari motioned for her to be quiet. After a full minute he turned to look at the three.

"If they're here, they have an Ogre. Which means they're possibly up to something very nasty in terms of an attack. We should go back now and warn the Boss of this."

"That's ridiculous! Ogres, there isn't an ogre in these woods. So why would you think those are..." Rose trailed off as she realized what Na'ari meant. "Fie! One of my siblings is here, and they have planned for a destructive raid on one of the villages to get their fears high. Can't Father keep a leash on some of those maniacs?!" As Rosaria thought this she cleared her throat.

"Do you guys want more proof by following the tracks or are you all willing to trust me when I think that something really bad is about to happen?" He asked the others as he rubbed his chin.

"Well, what do you guys think cause I'm unsure." Rose wanted to hear the other two out, especially Bjork's opinion to see if he'll lighten the mood. Lorelei she was unsure of, she either wanted proof or she didn't but Rose hoped that Na'ari wasn't assuming things.

Both Lorelei and Bjork listened closely to when Rose explained the mission, or Bjork tried to listen carefully to it but his attention was drawn away for slight moments when noises could be heard from the surrounding. However as soon as they started moving Bjork as well got into the whole assignment, he had always been more of a man of action that thought. Talking or planning ahead wasn't his thing at all. And if it even was possible his mood got even better as they went inside the forest, it was something with him and them that just clicked. It felt like it was where he belonged.

Lorelei on the other hand was not as amused by the stroll as he was, basically because she was taking it seriously. Bjork saw it more like a game, or that was what she thought he did. It was her opinion of him - that everything was a game for him, which was why the both of them probably couldn't be considered best of friends. Or Bjork would probably describe them as that, but he described everyone as his best friends. And even though Lorelei outwards was friendly toward Bjork as well as all others, he was probably one of them she liked the least.

When Rose stopped so did Lorelei, watching closely as Rose examined the prints on the ground. When Lorelei did that Bjork who wasn't paying attention at all walked right into her, making her lose her balance for a short second while Na'ari took over the study. In the heat of the moment Lorelei sent Bjork an angry glare while he tried to apologize to her for his clumsiness.

"If they're here, they have an Ogre. Which means they're possibly up to something very nasty in terms of an attack. We should go back now and warn the Boss of this." With those words leaving Na'ari's lips Bjork finally got quiet and Lorelei stopped glaring at him as well, both their attention was directed directly to the newbie. Just like Rose thought it was odd that an ogre in this woods so did Lorelei and Bjork, they had never heard of something like that before. But it could explain why the villagers said that there where monsters in the woods.

"Do you guys want more proof by following the tracks or are you all willing to trust me when I think that something really bad is about to happen?"

Rose, who was supposed to be the leader and not even she could decide what would be the best. The two other's stood their unsure of what to answer, they were both deep down in thoughts. Well, Lorelei was probably deeper down then Bjork since it didn't pass much time before he addressed his opinion, "Well, I think Na'ari is nice. I can't see any reason to why he would lie about something like this. We should probably head back and tell the others."

Bjork was innocent, he couldn't picture people being bad. He thought that everyone was just as true and honest as he was, why would they lie to him? But Lorelei on the other hand, when she heard Bjork speak his mind she started to wonder if they really could trust the new one. What if he in fact was leading them back from something important, distracting them, fooling them. But sadly, she didn't have any proof. And if it was true what he said than it would be bad if her suspicion had distracted them. If all this was a distraction and he led them away by lying that would be proof that he in fact wasn't someone to trust.

So with a short glance towards Na'ari Lorelei shrugged, "I agree with Bjork, we should return."

"Well, I think Na'ari is nice. I can't see any reason to why he would lie about something like this. We should probably head back and tell the others." Na'ari could very well now understand for a grown man, Bjork was very susceptible to anything people say. Lorelei however looked at at him for a moment and he actually wondered if she thought he was lying. But she then agreed to head back which made him sigh of relief. He didn't want to drill the fact a seven foot tall monster was here into anyone's head. He wasn't the head of the group.

Rose nodded as she was about to give the order, but then the ground started to rumble. "Something is coming this way. Get off the road quick!" she hissed her warning as she grabbed Bjork and pulled him to a hiding place behind a rock ten feet to the right from the road Na'ari hurried to a very large Willow and hid behind it and motioned for Lorelei to hurry and follow him. The moment the last member of the scout party left the road the ground continued to shake as a group of soldiers, some on horseback, some on foot, all armed for battle were leading a large creature with feet matching the footprints Rose and Na'ari were just debating about.

"It was an ogre. By the Archdragon it was an ogre." Na'ari breathed a mutter from his hiding place. The soldiers continued their march, leading the beast towards the exit of the woods down the road. "Lorelei, is there a village down the road where they're going?"

Rose couldn't believe her eyes, how did those soldiers capture an ogre?! Her thoughts raced on a certain older sister who always had a fascination for monsters and beasts, with rumors of her having a pet dragon nowadays. "Bjork, we need to signal to the other two to try and tell them we need to probably go double time on that last idea. The sooner the Boss knows the better and the sooner we can bring that...thing down."

The faint sound from the distant and the small movements of the ground, it was something at least Lorelei would had discovered earlier if it wasn't for the distracting footprints and the discussion around them. She had been so busy thinking about if Na'ari was a traitor or not, which felt stupid by now. Bjork however, he didn't notice anything at all until it came closer, so close that it was no mistaking something coming their way. And even though he would have preferred being the one saving someone, he let himself be dragged away by her.

Lorelei on the other hand was about to run for cover by herself when she noticed Na'ari's call for her, and even though she would probably feel better at someplace else she did rush over to him and hid beside him. Closer to ground though, she placed her at the ground to be able to watch around the corner. But after what she saw entering the scene she almost regretted it, watching the huge creature she trembled on the inside.

"Lorelei, is there a village down the road where they're going?"

In her head Lorelei painted up a mental map of the surrounding, trying to remember if it was like he asked, and after a while she nodded but it still was with hesitation, "Yes, I do think so... But I don't want to say that I'm absolutely sure about it, maps aren't exactly what I'm best at..."

Bjork that had been mesmerized by the thing that happened on the road had a hard time direction his attention towards Rose, but he did glance towards her for a short moment before he looked over to the road again, "Why can't we have a creature like that? It would be soo... something, I don't know!" Unlike everyone else in the search party, Bjork was excited for the discovery. It was like something he had never seen before and that was why he had joined this mercenary band in the first place.

"Bjork, we need to signal to the other two to try and tell them we need to probably go double time on that last idea. The sooner the Boss knows the better and the sooner we can bring that...thing down."

It took him a short moment to process what Rose in fact had asked for because her words had to pass through his extreme excitement about the whole situation, and even though he heard what Rose said he still couldn't think that it was so bad. So in his opinion she was making this a bigger fuss than it actually was, it was cool nothing else, "Uh, yeah... Why don't we just wave slightly to them? They should understand right?" To ask Bjork for his opinion, not such a wise choice most of the time. "We can go without them too, they will find their own way back and we will be able to warn the others. I guess, I don't know."

Rosaria considered the options Bjork placed on her. As Rose she is concerned for the safety of both Lorelei and the newbie, the former being her friend and the latter being just hired on by the boss. Though in her own mind Bjork was an idiot at times. Rose heaved a great sigh and with a heavy heart, whistled like a robin to signal to Lorelei to split up. "Let's try to work our way back Bjrork. They'll catch up, we gotta get the Boss alerted and intercept that Ogre before it reaches the town that's three hours down that road."

Her decision to do so was out of spite of her elder sibling, knowing that they had a hand in it. Rose had to work fast against them and stymie their plans and further her own. She grabbed Bjork and pulled him towards the direction for the camp.

Image

Red eyes scanned Lorelei's face to see if her answer was genuine. With a sigh he then heard the whistle as his mind got very confused. "What does that mean? We follow the ogre, or try to make our way back to camp and then intercept them?" he said in a confused tone. As he was only a single acting mercenary for a year, meh didn't know how group dynamics in a mercenary group worked, from signals, gestures, etc. Also, he seemed to now be stuck with one of the people who were possibly suspicious of his own motives. So as he stretched his legs and prepared to walk with Lorelei, he decided to get to know her.

"So, what's your story Lorelei?" he asked in a friendly tone as he looked around. The road the battalion took was southeast, if they ran, they would stealthily follow them and wait for the rest of Dragon Fang to catch up with them. But the possible clanking of his armor would give them away. "Uh, what I mean is, how did you get to join this group of mercenaries?" he stated, clarifying what exactly he meant by his previous question. He thought if he and Lorelei got to know each other it would calm her of any doubts about him. Familiarity is built on trust and trust is key to a group.

"Let's try to work our way back Bjork. They'll catch up, we gotta get the Boss alerted and intercept that Ogre before it reaches the town that's three hours down that road."

Bjork wasn't even close to being as nervous as Rosa was to the made decision, he didn't see any point in being worried about the two. There was a reason to why they had been hired, they wouldn't just hire anyone, and even Bjork had his good points more than just lightening the mood around him. "Yeah, of course they will. Well, Lorelei knows what to do and probably Na'ari as well. The best thing is to get the other's as fast as possible."

And with that Bjork found himself getting dragged away yet again, not that he minded it that much. But it was something that just clicked on the inside, he felt a bit offended. As if the reason Rose kept on dragging him with her was because she thought he wouldn't be able to keep up in her pace or wander off and get lost, the last thing was more likely to happen that the first.

Carefully he loosened her grip while mumbling, "I can walk by myself you know, you don't need to drag me around like some kid." The truth was that the one that pictured Bjork the furthest from being childish was himself, even though it was him who fooled himself.

Lorelei heard the whistle as well and glanced back at the place where Rose and Bjork had been at just a moment before that when Na'ari uttered the question. With a small shrug Lorelei responded, "It means that we split up, they will head towards the camp to inform the others of the situation. If I know Rose right I think she wants us to follow and meet them, I guess she have a hard time trusting others to do a good job by themselves? Anyway, you are not dressed for a stealth mission. If we mess up and gets found... I don't even want to think about how we will end up in that scenario."

After that she stood up again and dusted off her clothes, thinking of the possibility’s, "You did mention before that you didn't believe that your armor would be such a huge risk in a stealth mission as long as the one wearing it can control it? I guess you can, blacksmith? If you believe you can be quiet enough I guess we could head after the battalion if not, well I'm not willing to take that risk if that's the case." At that moment Lorelei had forgotten her suspicion of him earlier, mentally she was fully focused on doing what would be the best in this situation. And if they had shadowed those men, if they were lucky, they could learn a thing or two that could be useful.

"So, what's your story Lorelei? Uh, what I mean is, how did you get to join this group of mercenaries?"

At first it was just a short sharp look that Na'ari received by asking such questions, but it was almost immediately replaced by her usual smile. Once more she shrugged as if it wasn't anything special, "Why does anyone join this group of mercenaries? Isn't it all just to escape or find a place which you feel that you can call home? I guess it was something like that, escape from the troubles I left behind and I didn't exactly have any other place to go to so here I am."

Na'ari listened to Lorelei explaining before he simply nodded in satisfaction of the answer. He then made his way onto the trail and grabbed a stick and tossed it in the air. When it landed it pointed back towards the trail they took to get to this point which meant back to camp. "Looks like we head back for camp Miss Phyrra." he stated calmly as he hurried to camp, knowing she'll follow.

---

In the space of an hour, the scouting group made it back to the camp. What followed was an almost heated debate between the Boss and Rose about whether or not to intercept the group of Zankor soldiers that had an ogre, believing it to be lead by one of the Children of the Count. The people outside the boss's tent could only hear shouting and arguing, and on occasion, somethings being thrown about.

Na'ari looked at the two people he did the scouting mission with and gestured to the tent. "They fight like cats and dogs don't they?" he asked in a sarcastic, yet conversational tone. He had taken his helmet off to give his head time to cool off, so he mostly had his armor still on, along with his blade on his back.

Rose walked out of the tent in a sharp huff, looking at first like a dissatisfied kid who didn't win an arguement, she then smiled and moved out of the way. Behind her, the Tall, muscular man known as the Boss emerged. The man's hair was red, and adorned a beard of a matching color. His emerald eyes flashed a gleaming look about him. His frame showed the means of indimidation. This was the mercenary warrior known as Ragnar Redmane, leader of the Dragin Fang mercenaries.

"Everyone! A battalion of Zankor troops has been spotted heading for the town of Valma, we are to give relief to the town's defenses. When we get to town I expect absolute respect! No drinking, no taking of the town women, no nonsense. The battalion is rumored to about to be supplied with an Ogre. I know some of you have faced gryphons, small dragons, and the like, but this monster's going to need some team work. Everyone strike your personal tents, pack your personal belongings and prepare to head for the Town!"

At the last sentence most of Dragon Fang cheered a rallying cry as they then moved to do so. Na'ari began to move to do as he was told as well as Rose, though the latter was sure she was going to have to help Bjork if he was getting slow about it. Na'ari, having few belongings, was done in a few minutes as he walked to a white rock, then sat upon it, and waited for the others.

The chosen way to test out what direction they would head towards was not something Lorelei could express any satisfaction with. It annoyed her slightly, but she didn't say anything, but she felt like it would be something that Bjork could come up with. Something to avoid making them avoid to take difficult decisions. But even though the way Na'ari had chosen was unconventional when they arrived she was rather happy that they had gone back to the camp.

However, Lorelei couldn't see the point with arguing about the situation, in her opinion it was clear that they should interfere. Bjork couldn't appreciate the debate that was going on, he didn't like it when people were unhappy. When people started to disagree with each other he had this strong urge to step in and try to cheer everyone up, that was not an option this time however. So he could only sit on the ground and sulk about it.

"They fight like cats and dogs don't they?"

With a sigh Lorelei smiled tiredly, "Yeah, sadly it's like that most of the time." Lorelei guessed that it was because the leader and Rose's personalities crashed, that they both were too strong. At least she found Rose to be very bossy and she couldn't see that the actual boss could appreciate such personality traits.

When the boss entered both Lorelei and Bjork listened carefully like most others. When the declaration had been made Bjork was just happy about the fact that everything had been decided in the end and that everything seemed fine. He didn't care much about what the boss said about what they weren't allowed to do, he usually didn't get in such troubles anyway - probably because he never got drunk even though he drank when they wasn't allowed to do. He had a pretty high alcohol limit. So he just hurried away to prepare for what would come after, adrenaline pumping already.

Lorelei on the other hand was doubting that the boss's words would be taken to heart, there was not just one time when the other's had rebelled against his rules. Probably because the moments when they could relax in such ways were few, at least about the woman part - it was not that often that the men had an opportunity to meet new ones. Not that it mattered much for her, she would probably accompany the others to where they would be heading even though it could be forbidden ground. But she didn't drink, she just went along for the company and entertainment. She found it very funny to watch those desperate beings try to flirt.

In the end both Lorelei and Bjork accompanied Na'ari beside the stone, strangely enough they came together. It was because Lorelei had actually went to check on Bjork after she was done, and since he wasn't even close to finished she had helped him. She couldn't stand having him run late for a second time this day.

Na'ari placed his helm on his head when the two approached. "Well, this is what I call an interesting first day in a mercenary band. It's interesting, seeing everyone working together instead of separate individuals." He stated as he watched everyone getting wagons and horses together. Rose joined the group, smiling brightly.

"I love the sight of you three, I think Na'ari makes a fine addition to our little group of friends, hm? I wonder though if his sword isn't just for show anymore because I never seen it unsheathed yet." Rose was trying to make some small talk before the group got moving.

Na'ari only chuckled. "Unwanted use would bring about wear, tear, and rust. That would be a waste." he said, though in his heart of hearts, he knew it was a white lie on his own blade. The sound of the ogre and a battalion of Zankor soldiers made his very blood boil. "Draconil hungers, it wants to be used in the very purpose I forged it in! Soon my beloved friend, my creation, my magnum opus of swords!" he thought with the hint of desire to head into the fight in mind. Na'ari had a beloved cause to help fight in this war. No, it was not that. It was a raging lust to end the violence so that no families would suffer, no loved ones be separated.

Na'ari heaved a heavy sigh, his face turning melancholy. It was then he discovered Ragnar Redmane looking at the group as the soldiers gathered to prepare to leave on his signal. His emerald green eyes met Na'ari's ruby red as he only gave a nod to the group they were leaving. It was either an acknowledgement on the two of them that they had a common respect. Either that, or according to some, they swore an oath in Ancient Valsirian.

"Everyone! All troops! Move out!!!" With that, the entire band headed for the town of Valma.

---

The Band arrived at the outskirts of the town, it seemed tranquil and peaceful, but several soldiers in the band nervously looked around at the different sides of the forest, not knowing where the bloody battalion was. Though Rose had that nervousness too, she had a fear. She had a feeling of who it was leading the battalion, and if so, she was not happy. She was given a reassuring pat by a soldier she often flirted with. She nodded with a small smile.

Na'ari however, kept on hand on the handle of Draconil, eyes turning harsh, and battle ready. He too stayed alert, but he let fear convert to determination. He had a feeling Lorelei still didn't trust him, but he hoped if there was a battle, if they both survived, it'd be proof enough in his eyes he'd earned the trust. He breathed slowly, through his nose. He dared not make any sudden movements unless he saw the enemy rushing at him.

When they finally was allowed to leave, or walk away, Bjork almost leaped forward. He was looking forward to this, he was tired of all the missions were they didn't do anything else then check around. He wanted more than that, he needed more than that. And finally the day had arrived, the day when their leader had decided to do something about something. But his excitement was probably a rare case, most people was all tensed up, stern looking, nervous about what would happen. The whole Ogre business was probably something that made it all worse for everyone else, but Bjork he looked forward to seeing the strange creature again.

When they finally arrived at their destined place Bjork's excitement went over the roof, it was so large by now that he wasn't able to be still, it was as if he was bouncing around the place like a rubber bal. So even though people should be worried about what was out there they had to worry about what was inside their team as well. So even though the men should be watching their backs for possible threat they as well needed to babysit Bjork so he didn't jump the Ogre all by himself - because at the moment that was what seemed extremely likely.

As they moved around Lorelei wasn't one of the ones that bothered to look after Bjork, she kept her distance from him because she didn't feel like being a babysitter. She could concentrate better without him close to her as well, then she could be fully focused onto the mission and what it would be. She guessed that it would be to get the Ogre to fall. Unlike Bjork she felt like the most others - nervous. But even though that was how she mainly felt she still liked the sensation of the situation at the same time. To carry her bow in hand, ready to fire.

When the faint sound of footsteps could be heard in the distance, getting closer to their position. When the sound was detected Lorelei slowly picked one of the arrows and got prepared, waiting for the order on what to do would leave the leaders lips. While Bjork almost rushed off towards the sun but got grabbed by one of those who watched him, with a grumpy expression he started whining, “Oh, come on!” The only response he got was a shushing sound from the others.

"Oh, come on!" Na'ari turned his head so he can see Bjork and gave him a frightening, fiery glare. His breathing slowed further as he turned his attention to the oncoming footsteps.

"Archers!" Ragnar stated very quietly, "Stand ready! If that ogre is the first thing they send, loose arrows at its eyes, and elbows and knees. We bring it to the ground our main forces will cut it to pieces." It was at this statement all of them saw them. A battalion of 400 soldiers, ten of which were leading the Ogre into battle with a thick cable of rope.

Then astride a horse with a mane similar to silver, came the battalion commander. Rose slightly paled, she saw who was leading them, and horrible memories cropped up. It was Sarai Zankira, second eldest daughter of the Count of Zankor. She was the third born child of the Feared Group of Children most loyalists call the Demons of Fear. Often the leadership changes depending on which child deemed him or herself tactically powerful to take the reigns. But Sarai was deadly, and skillful in taming powerful monsters. The rumors are she even tamed a Dragon.

She raised her hand and looked at the mercenary band and laughed. "This is what my father's enemies call an army? How pathetic." She pointed at them and clicked her tongue, the ogre now getting on a violent rage. The soldiers let go frightened as some got ran over by the beast as Ragnar looked at it and shouted, "Fire!!"

Na'ari waited for Lorelei and the Archers to be done, and Rosaria smirked mentally as she could tell how mad Sarai must be. She thought this mercenary band was obviously the King's army. Well, she was going to make her eat those words when an enemy soldier glowered angrily and hurled a spear that sailed in her direction, she raised her sword to try and deflect it, but one the men she often flirted with jumped and took the blow himself.

"Marko!" she cried, as she caught the man and begged him not to die, but the spear pierced the man in the liver, a very fatal wound. Marko only gave Rose a soft reassuring smile before he took his last breath, eyes gazing lifeless in the sky. Rose's shocked face turned to an upset one, but in her mind she praised the young man's needless sacrifice. She began to sob over his body.

Na'ari however saw the display and decided to rush at the ogre when Ragnar gave the signal to do so, and he sped towards the monster. He then jumped at the ogre and unsheathed his blade and sliced at its chest. The blow wasn't a deep one it, though it caused the ogre to bend down and roar in its injury. "Bjork! Go for its skull! Kill its brains!"

Sarai watched the first blow made and looked at the man's blade that dared to do it. "That sword, and that man...who and what are these that dare defy me?! Why have I not seen a blade like that one?!" She gripped her sword as she ranted, "First infantry unit! Capture that man!"

With that, 50 men began to charge towards the middle of the battlefield. Na'ari raised his blade. "Finally!" he shouted to himself. He slowly got into a ready stance as his scowl turned to a malicious grin.

When the rest of the party reacted to the beast Lorelei didn't more a single unnecessary muscle, no flinching or grinning. No frightened expression, the only thing that moved was her arms she prepared for the order. However, her heart was pounding at this point but not because she was scared or nervous. And neither was she excited like Bjork, instead she was focused. Eyes directed at the target and all senses clear like spring water.

When the order finally came Lorelei's arrow pierced the air flying directly towards the Ogre's eye as demanded. It was something special about the first wave of arrows that flew through the air, Lorelei couldn't help but smile at the view. It always gave her a strange feeling in her chest. Not a bad one, a good one.

At this point of time Bjork wasn't able to stand still, he was bouncing up and down where he stood. When he finally was released to charge and attack the enemy he was probably one of the first to attack. That was probably the one reason for him to get accepted into this group, not that he wasn't a good mascot but that isn't enough, Bjork was most of the time like an inferno. Out of control, unpredictable, quick. He didn't have the actual skill that probably was required but he made up for that in lack of fear and intelligence. If he was a tad smarter he would probably understand how dangerous the things he did were but he had no clue.

"Bjork! Go for its skull! Kill its brains!"

An extremely hyped Bjork swung around towards the direction his name had been called to find Na'ari stand over there by the Ogre, "Yes, yes, yes!" It was shouts in ecstasy, to be the one finishing off the monster - that was indeed something to be excited about according to Bjork. And he didn't wait to make his attack, rushing over to the beast as fast as he could. Still accompanied by the force of the speed he stabbed the Ogre in the right eye with his right sword, driving it deep down. As the creature fell backwards Bjork smashed his left sword into the left eye of the creature, when the dragged the swords out again his breathing was so rapid it sounded as if he was out of breath. But it was far from it, he had such a huge amount of adrenalin in his body by now that it felt like he was going to explode.

Lorelei who was watching from the distance, still assisting the troops from her position had a pretty great view of the battle field. She did notice who needed some more assistance than others, Bjork was not one of them. He was surprisingly good at taking care of himself in these sorts of situations. Someone she figured needed some assistance even though he perhaps could deal with it by himself was Na'ari. But what did she know, she had never seen him fight so he could as well be terrible at it. But she doubted that he would be let to fight if that was the case.
