Description
Name: Daan Sulas Erra Gethsar (Without A Moment to Spare)
Nickname: Sul
Age: 72
Gender: Male
Race: rif't
Height: 9'4''
Physical Description: The rif't are a nocturnal race of hairless mammals bearing some resemblance to Earth canids in certain respects. Their species' leg structure is digitigrade, with three-toed feet and four-fingered hands. Skulls are slightly elongated, with eyes positioned more toward the front, four nostrils, and mouths filled with sharp teeth meant to rip and tear flesh. Their skin is dark, a mix of earthy and charcoal hues muddled together into something almost black and almost brown. Rif't possess a double torso and two sets of arms, which in the past aided them as hunters during periods when they contended with larger fauna on their homeworld Nosa Sin - animals who would eventually become prey for the rif't as they expanded across Nosa Sin's five continents. Their eyes have a tapetum lucidum, and slit pupils to aid in their nocturnal lifestyles. A defining mark on Sul is a long scar reaching from the back of his head across the right side of his face and descending until it halts along his lower jaw. Once, this was a life-threatening wound sustained during battle with dissidents who had captured a Combine mining platform. Now, a long, thin marring is all that remains.
Religious Affiliation: Erdatz: a school of philosophy bordering very closely on the human deism. Erdatz holds that all was sparked by one. One who, after this act of creation, left the universe to its own devices- never intervening. The universe that was created is seen as being alive, however. Conscious and fully able to influence. Whether the universe is benevolent, or otherwise, is a decision to be made by the individual. Life after death is also a matter left to the individual.
Occupation: Soldier. Kohnadet Yaw (Staff Sergeant equivalent) in the Enallary Alignment Naval Infantry corps.
Personality: An ardent pessimist, Sul is devoted to the idea that whatever life is doing it's doing it against your best wishes. If something good is happening to you then beware, the universe is preparing to heap a mess of misfortune onto your plate sometime soon. Despite this, and the inherent cynicism it creates, Sul can generally be defined as a good-natured individual - in part because he believes holding your head up against the tide to be a slap in the universe's face as it struggles to break you. Neither quick to judge nor driven to bring undue stress to another, and holden to the belief that victory in life is living well with what you get and fighting to reach better all the way. His name was given to him when, as an infant, his mother noted how he would forever be rushing. Before he could learn to walk he would crawl as fast as his limbs would let him, he ate in a hurry, and when he finally could stand he would run from one place to another, never taking the time to just walk. Although he is more patient now in adulthood, one can detect lingering traces of this restlessness in his demeanor if they look hard enough.
Equipment:
Mk. 21 Powered Combat Armor.
Daggar Phased Plasma Rifle issue 7 (service rifle of the Alignment Naval Infantry corps)
See'zed Plasma Pistol
Multi-Purpose Projected Interface (omni-tool)
History: Sul was born on the Alignment Colony Habitat Indur, a younger colony with sections still being added to accomodate a growing population. After several years of preliminary general education and analysis, Sul was placed on a path that would lead him into a career in the Alignment Navy, more specifically the Naval Infantry branch. This afforded him the chance to experience all aspects of life in the Henna Combine on the government's dollar as he was stationed from the corners of the Alignment to the magnificent asteroid sprawls of the akandr (the dominant race of the Ganama Republic, another of the Combine's Chief Partners). Eleven years into his service a band of rebels assaulted an important mining platform on the border between the Enallary Alignment and Quetzeda. The Alignment reacted immediately, deploying warships and troops to retake the facility. Sul, at the time stationed aboard the cruiser Thadad Morod, took part in the campaign. The complex was expansive, and the rebels had entrenched themselves firmly. Nine days in they detonated a fuel core, obliterating a sizable chunk of one of the platform's wings. Sul was far enough away to escape the full force of the blast, but close enough that he and his platoon suffered severe injuries. A quick operation later and he was back in the fray, eager to avenge the rif't killed in the explosion. The last of the rebels surrendered on the eighteenth day, though the complex had sustained heavy damage. Sul's conduct during the battle earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and his superiors. When the time came for the Combine to dispatch a diplomatic contingent to the Fleet of Night, Sul was among those chosen to join the representatives of the Alignment.
