The Forever Train

The gentle hum of the train had merely become background noise, shuffling feet and quiet mumbles of the other passengers fading in and out of hearing. Ruko shifted her head round, looking out from her spot under a seat, she was mostly tucked under, but her tail was just sticking out slightly, almost asking someone to trip over it. She was dopey, and half asleep but every now and then she'd lift an eye lid slightly, gazing out from the slit and then fidgeting before finding another comfortable position to sleep in. The carriage bumped violently suddenly, causing her head to hit on the seat above. "AARRRRCHHHA!"
She winced, wide awake now and grumpily swished her tail. She lay there, her tail moving less and less as the pain drifted away from her skull, looking at the floor, her unimpressed expression focused on the small flecks of dirt on the ground. She finally settled her head back on her paws, her tail curled round herself and her eyes finally closing once more. The hum of the train fading away back into the background of this moving prison.

Charlotte sat on one of the many worn-out seats on the train, she crossed one leg over the other and looked down, her eyes locked on the floor. It wasn't long until her mind drifted away, detaching herself from her surroundings when suddenly she felt the carriage jerk and a thud underneath her chair. She sat upright, shifted in her seat and looked down to check if Ruko was okay, after calming down she moved back into the position she was in before and drifted back off into a daydream.

Ruko grumbled in her doze, her head still sore. She flopped over to her side and pushed against the side of the carriage with her legs, sliding out from under the seat. She stood up on all fours and stretched, her back cracking. Ruko placed one paw up on the seat next to Charlotte before heaving herself on to the seat, she stood awkwardly next to her for a few seconds before placing her front paws over her legs and then flopping onto her lap. Ruko was a bit big for a lap though, and she was stretched across three seats, her tail up against the back of the end seat, curling against the ceiling.

Charlotte quickly became aware of something pressing down on her legs, she looked down realizing it was Ruko.
Smiling warmly, she ran her hand down Rukos back. After stroking Rukos back for some time, she leans down and nuzzles her gently before looking up and realizing she was being stared at by a few other passengers on the train.. Red in the face, she clears her throat, sits back up and gazes out the nearest window.
