|| Physical Description ||
She's mixed-race, and that definitely shows. If someone was feeling particularly poetic, he or she could describe Ayana as "exotic." If the person wanted to be less flattering, then a choosier word would be "mongrel." Her skin color comes from her mom, but her eyes and hair are from her dadâs side of the family. Ayana unfortunately inherited the short gene from her dadâs side as well, which irritates her greatly. Sheâs the shortest one in her family. Her dark hair is naturally frizzy, so she wakes up early in the morning to flat-iron it. Her hair, when left alone, reaches her shoulder blades. When straightened, it reaches the small of her back.
Ayana is rather curvy, and she wears clothes that flatter her figure. Most of her tops are low-cut, and her shorts are always a bit⊠short. She always wears heels to compensate for (in her opinion) annoying lack of height. Her make-up is tasteful and subtle, and she rarely goes anywhere without it. When she puts no extra effort, sheâs a frizzy, dry-skinned, acne-prone, glasses-wearing⊠lump. Ayana works very hard to look nice. As she likes to say, âpresentation is key to success.â
|| Personality ||
"Lazy and prone to world domination."
At the least, the first part is right. Ayana is very lazy and unmotivated. She procrastinates as much as possible, leaving most things to the last minute. Often times, Ayana finds it very difficult to care or work for things she isn't interested. For example, homework. It specifically is the bane of her existence. She slacks off a lot when it comes to school work. She simply can't bring herself to care. Ayana maintains her good grades by relying on exams and presentations. She's excellent under pressure or in front of an audience.
She is confident and adamant, especially about things she cares about. (Which, to be honest, is mainly being right. She has a pretty big ego.) Once Ayana makes up her mind, she rarely changes it. She isn't afraid of standing up for what she thinks, even when it's the controversial opinion. She will drop everything and argue nonstop. She's been struggling to break herself out of this attitude, with limited success. Honestly, Ayana enjoys attention and the spotlight. She's very much a people's person, needing to surround herself with others. Ayana gets lonely very quickly. Similarly, lying and making stuff up on the fly is her specialty; she can make utter nonsense sound good.
Her confidence borders on arrogance, at times. Her apathy sometimes stretches to encompass the actions and feelings of other people. Insults and words slide off of her like waterâand that's not always a good thing. Though she's brash and loud, she's also very perceptive. Her need to be with people has caused her to be acutely aware of social situations. Ayana can tell when things get awkward or uncomfortable, and she does her best to diffuse the situation.
Though it might seem like she's apathetic about most things, there is one thing that drives her utterly: her goal to join the U.S State Department. That is her one ambition. It's the one thing she completely devotes herself. She moved to Japan to learn a foreign language and immerse herself in another country's culture, something that the U.S. Department of State looks favorably upon. Anyone who sees Ayana while she's working for her goal to join the department will swear that she's an entirely different person. In reality, it's a side-affect of her one-track mind. When she puts her mind to something, she'll do it without fail. It's just getting her to put her mind to it.
Ayana is a bit insecure about her appearance. She's constantly fussing about how she looks. She does enjoy dressing up, and Ayana is the furthest thing from prude. (She's not afraid to crack a dirty joke or show off her body.) But if even the slightest thing is out of place, she freaks out. While she cares nothing about what other people say about her looks, Ayana is very hard on herself. Her outward arrogance masks slight self-loathingâabout her lack of motivation (excluding the DOS), her appearance, and even her personality. Ayana is truly her own worst enemy.

- Social sciences (history, economics, politics, etc.): This is her love. It doesn't hurt that the U.S. Department of State focuses on these subjects.
"Did you hear? Quantitative easing, while effective in the United States, has possible caused our relationship with China to fray because of the low interest rates in... - Non-fiction books (newspapers, journals, etc.): She's constantly reading about international relations. When it comes current events, she knows exactly whats going on. "Why wouldn't you want to know about the world today?"
- Talking: She's very chatty, in front of people and on the stage. "Oh my gosh! It's been so long. How are you? How's your sister doing? Is your puppy feeling any better? I heard she was sick, but you posted that she got better. Is that true?"
- MMA: Beating people up or watching others beat people up is strangely cathartic. "Heck yeah! MMA is my sport!"
- Music (cheesy pop and violin)"Music rocks. And there's nothing wrong with pop or classical. People who hate either genre are just snobs.

|| Biography ||
"My back-story's pretty boring, actually."
Ironically, considering how focused Ayana is on social sciences, she was born to two engineers. Her mother was black and her father was white, but both sides of her family got along very well. She has two younger sisters and one older brother, as well as numerous cousins. Since a young age, Ayana was always surrounded by people. She thrived in the social environment and developed her people skills. While her father was strict and commanding, her mother was laid-back and care-free. But both gave each one of their children an equal amount of love. (Ayana quarreled with her mother more than her father, though. Her mother had very different views from her.
In school, Ayana quickly adapted. She was the top of the hierarchy, popular and well-liked. Sure, she butted heads with people who got in her way, but she made more friends than enemies. It was here where she discovered her passion for social studies, her moderate math skills, and her utter disdain for science. Ayana hated her science teacher, and the science teacher hated her.
One clear memory from her childhood was from when she traveled down south for the holidays. A racist old man had shouted slurs at her, and for the first time in her life, Ayana was speechless. But then a man with a funny accent came to her rescue. (She later learned that he was Indonesian, but that's beside the point.) She thanked him, and in response, he spoke words that she always remembered. In halting, hesitant English, he said to her, "People deserve to be treated as people, no matter their skin color or country." Even now, thirteen years later, she still thinks of that day.
Middle school was... painful, as it generally is. Oh, Ayana was still popular... but she also suffered through puberty. She had been uncaring about her appearance before, but that all changed then. Ayana tried very hard to become pretty, since that's what many kids cared about. At the beginning of middle school, she was very uncomfortable with her body, but by the end, she had more-or-less adjusted. What was first a chore (makeup, clothes, shopping) then became a fun routine. Ayana began to enjoy it.
In high school, Ayana discovered what she wanted to do in life. After talking to someone from the State Department, Ayana decided that she would work there. Not wanted to, but would. That became her new ambition. She also discovered her sexuality in high school. Ayana liked both boys and girls, and she was alright with that. High school saw a variety of short-term boyfriends and girlfriends. Ayana never met anyone she wanted to commit to, romantically. At least, not yet. While she was in different cliques, her closest friends weren't the popular ones. Ayana became best friends with a group of friends that became closer to her than almost anyone else.
