Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few, - Winston Churchill on the Royal Air Force
Tommy is a determined worker, he trained as a metal worker before the war at school but swiftly joined the Military once the war broke out. His determined and enthusiastic nature can sometimes be over whelming to some people and he can become annoying for others quickly.
Before the war, Tommy was a cheerful and friendly person who used to enjoy going out and drinking with his friends - and also schmoozing with the women who he met in the bars and dance halls. Now that he has returned from the war, he is somewhat more reserved as a person and refuses to talk about some points in the war where he witnessed some terrible things while serving. He would rather live somewhere quieter away from the city and would like to retire to building cars in a factory or riding horses in which he forged a passion for when he was young as his uncle was a rag and bone man with a sturdy shire horse. He always had dreams of owning a car repair shop or dealing horses - which he hopes to achieve one of the two in his life.
He is still a friendly chap and remains proud of himself and the men he served with during the war. His best friend George who he met in the war - an American pilot persuaded Tommy to move to America where he still remains in touch with him now. He is now wary of crowded places and would rather go for a quiet walk somewhere than drink the night away in a bar. He is known for his witty comments and banter between the people he sees often. He considers himself a ladies man although his real luck with women hasn't been all that great up until now where he hopes to try and settle down...
During the war he flew a spitfire nicknamed 'Hairless Joe'.
Tommy came from a humble home in London, England. His father fought in the First World War and Tommy felt it was up to him to keep in with the family tradition of joining the military. He grew up listening to war tales and listening to songs that his father sang to him and Tommy was hooked on becoming a soldier. As soon as he left school he joined the Military and when the war broke out he trained as a pilot.
He has two other brothers, one, Jimmy (32) - a tank commander and Ryan (29) a Gunner. Ryan did not survive the war and died in 1941 along with two other of his comrades while his brother Jimmy survived to go home to his wife and daughter. His father served in the Home Guard or 'Dads army' as most commonly referred to during the war . Both his parents still live in central London.
Burdened by the horrors he saw from the war, he figured that the only way he could get his life back on track is to move somewhere else. He swiftly moved to America after the war and now resides in a small town in Iowa.
He was injured a few months before the war ended, his plane taking heavy fire from a Messerschmitt which in turn; Tommy went down with it. Although thanks to the ejector seat that the Spitfire had installed he was lucky enough to make it out alive with merely a broken arm and leg.
