"As you wish, Love Goddess."
Arthas replied respectfully as he rose to his feet and sheathed his sword. The instant he stood the entire squadron of silver constructs rose as well. The sudden shift of movement caused Nigriv to jump as she clutched her fathers arm. Braun merely chuckled and put his arm around her, providing the warmth and security his timid daughter so often needed. The noble knight god stepped forward and after giving Braun a nod of respect he spoke to Nigriv.
"My Lady if I may."
Arthas said offering his arm to her to take. Nigriv's eyes went wide in hesitation before she looked up at her father who gave her a warm smile of encouragement.
"Thou hast nothing to fear daughter. Between myself, your mother and brother and..."
Braun eyes rose to look upon Arthas and for the first time seemed to realize whom he was here to replace. It was a somber moment but one that gave him joy. He still mourned a brother but was given another.
"Your uncle, you could not be safer anywhere else in the world."
Braun words seemed to grant Nigriv a tiny shred of confidence as she nodded meekly. She slowly brought her eyes up to meet Arthas but could not hold his sparkling gaze for more than a moment before she sheepishly looked away. She interlocked her arm with his as offered and felt a warmth begin to flow through her body. Just being near him she felt safe, secure. As if the entire world could fall away and he would protect her. His aura was palpable and it filled her with warmth yet at the same time it seemed their was a flock of butterflies fluttering about in her stomach making her uneasy. She knew not what this feeling was but noted to herself she would ask her mother or father later.
Arthas gave the goddess a reassuring smile as he led her the few paces back to where the constructs stood in formation and at attention. He could feel her apprehension as they neared the forward column. Her steps slowed and she seemed to want to hide behind him but Arthas supported her regardless.
"You have no reason to fear The White Cloaks My Lady, they mean you no harm. On the contrary their soul purpose is to protect and serve thee, as is mine."
Nigriv for the first time managed to look up into his eyes. Those swirling sparkling blue orbs as radiant as the sea on a bright sunny day. She felt she could fall into them if she wanted.
"S-Serve me?"
Nigriv stammered out. Arthas smiled charmingly and nodded.
"But of course. They are, as I am, Justice. I am the embodiment of it and they are my knights. Justice should be meant to serve all, it should be a force for good, a force that provides hope and security to all people. That is my duty, my charge. As I serve with honor so too shall they."
Nigriv looked away from Arthas, grateful to have her heart stop racing as she stared at him wide eyed and instead looked at one of the construct knights. The creature was completely still, he seemed not truly alive yet was completely aware. It's eyes radiated blueish energy as if to showcase the magical energies used to power it.
"Do they have names?"
Nigriv asked curiously.
"Nay My Lady, they are all White Cloak. They are of one mind yet many bodies. All are linked to each other and all are linked to me. What they see I see, what I see, they see. They do not hunger or tire, they know not fear or pain, they cannot be corrupted or leveraged. They are perfect law bringers in that they know only duty."
Arthas' explanation was concise and admittedly did help to dispel some of the fear she held surrounding the odd looking automatons. She looked at one carefully yet never released her hold on Arthas' arm. She could hear a soft humming noise emanating out of their heads as if they were breathing yet she assumed this to not be true breath but instead some influx from the magical power that bonded them together.
"They can preform a trick if you like."
Arthas said with a smile, noticing her wonder. Nigriv turned to him in curiosity as if to ask but the look was all Arthas need. He turned his gaze to his legion and addressed them all.
"Show the Goddess of Purity your bounty, White Cloaks."
Arthas ordered, his voice commanding and noble as it boomed out to the large number of constructs assembled. Instantly they all took a ready stance and in a dazzling display their cloaks all changed. Transformed from the flowing white fabric fluttering behind them they rose and changed into magnificent white wings feathered like that of an eagle. So radiant and dazzling white they were the wings seemed to shine. The White Cloaks held their wings up in an impressive pose to showcase their mighty wingspan and beauty.
Braun and his son could not help but awe at the sight and began to clap as they exchanged chuckles of amazement.
"That's good that."
Braun said, impressed at the creations of his youngest brother. Valiance nodded as his mind began to form imaginations of battling one or all of the winged armored men.
"Aye father, I wonder if my uncle would lend me some to spar with."
Braun chuckled at his son but admittedly was wondering the same thing. Nigriv on the other hand for the first time found the courage born from wonder to release her hold on Arthas' hand. She stared in wondrous awe at the beautiful creatures standing before her. No longer frightening but truly captivating. She stepped forward and reached out a tentative hand to touch the feathery wings. They were so soft and silky smooth it made her smile to touch. She stared then into the glowing eyes of the construct where that iconic blue light radiated from within the metal head piece of the creature.
"Can you speak?"
Nigriv asked softly. The White Cloak turned it's head to look at her with unnatural precision.
Yes, Goddess It replied. Its voice hollow but with a mechanical almost synthetic tone. It was not frightening but instead charming.
"Are you alive?"
She asked coming around to look up into it's face from in front of it. The creature's head followed her movements perfectly.
Not as you see it, Goddess Nigriv stared up at the White Cloak in wonder as it's creator watched with a smile. Nigriv could not break her gaze, this creature seemed so kind for something that was not truly living. Nigriv smiled at the creature sweetly before gracefully bowing to it. The construct mimicked her movement with mechanic precision. The Goddess of Innocence returned to Arthas and found herself still unable to maintain eye contact with him for long.
"Thank you."
She said. She may not be able to look him in the eye but at least she wasn't stammering anymore. That was progress. Arthas smiled at her and bowed nobly. As Nigriv walked back to stand beside her father Arthas arched an eyebrow.
"White Cloak."
He said in order and the construct Nigriv had been speaking to stepped forward. Nigriv paused a pace or so away from her father and looked back in curiosity. Arthas rested his hands on his sword belt as he gave out the orders to the automaton.
"She is your charge from this day fourth. You must cherish her and protect her. You must guide her when she seeks guidance and safeguard her when perils threaten her. In the darkness you will serve as her light, to show her the way and protect her from harm. You will be her friend and loyal guardian, her hand from this day until your last day."
That command, that single order seemed to spark something in the construct whose eyes seemed to shimmer just a little bit more, joy perhaps? It nodded dutifully and strode forward to stand at Nigriv's side as it's wings folded back into a cloak once more.
I am yours, Goddess It said. Nigriv could not help but smile. She cast a quick glance at Arthas who nodded warmly before looking back at the White Cloak before her.
