Susan walked through the halls of Cair Paravel, admiring the classic beauty of the place and thinking over trade and other things absently. She seemed to be spending quite a bit of time thinking over trade and things of that nature lately- for seemingly no reason. Sometimes she figured it was because of her relations within her own family- strained, especially between her dear sister and the high king. As if on cue, Sherri appeared in front of her. She may have been standing there for a few minutes, for all Susan knew, but Sherri didn't seem to mind if she had been standing for long.

"Yes?" Susan said, turning to face the cherry tree spirit. As she did so, she folded her hands over her dress and bowed, never wanting to seem rude.

"Your sister- may you talk with her? I do not wish to be out of my boundaries, but she is being increasingly difficult, especially with things concerning her brother," the woman said, bowing lightly as well. Susan sighed. It went without saying just which brother she was speaking of, and she was getting tired of it really. She held her hand out in front of her in a silent plea to walk with her, which Sherri accepted by walking along with the Queen as she started back.

"Of course, Sherri. Any other things of importance?" Susan said as she began to walk towards the tower, holding her dress up when she reached the stairs.

"No, Queen Susan." The woman said as she advanced the stairs with her.

"Very well. You may be off, Sherri. I'm sure Queen Lucy and I need to have this conversation without any audience. Besides, you wouldn't come to me if you couldn't get to her yourself," Susan laughed as they reached the top, near her sister's door. Sherri smiled as well and Susan walked to the door without her.

"Queen Lucy? Open the door, please. We need to talk," The second oldest Pevensie said with the kindest voice she could, despite her exasperation at her older brother and younger sister. She added a knock after a few seconds, sure her sister would be intent on not talking to her, as she could more than likely distinguish what she wished to talk about.

"The door's unlocked, Sue. And leave the formalities at the door, please. It doesn't feel right being called queen by my own sister." Susan smiled and pushed open the door, taking in the room as she always did- it was one of the prettiest rooms in Cair Paravel, in her opinion. Her sister sat in the window seat, and Susan walked over to her swiftly, sitting beside her and admiring the view.

"Sherri sent me up," Susan said after a moment, still looking out the window. "You know, we may be royalty- but we are still a family. We need to act like it. I know you want to go out and do all the things our brothers and I do, and I agree you should. Though, Peter is worried for your safety. You are still the youngest, Lu."

Susan measured all of her words carefully. She felt as if she were walking on eggshells. She wanted all of her family to get along- she wanted all of Narnia to get along. However, she knew siblings were bound to fight every once in a while- she sure did, at least. Still, she didn't want her sister feeling as if she was lesser or lower than any of the others. Peter could make people feel like that sometimes.

"Sometimes I feel this whole business would be so much easier if we were just normal people- so we would only have to worry about ourselves. That would be easiest. Though, that didn't turn out that way. Still, I think that, at least for a little while, it is best to not worry ourselves with manners of a whole kingdom," Susan stood as she said the words, a smirk lighting up her face. "We should all do that some time. All of us. We could go riding and have a picnic. As a family- not as royals. Though, that would never be fun if two of us weren't talking, now would it?" Susan smiled at the words, gently placing her hands over her lap as she turned to face her sister.

Lucy frowned, not really hearing all of what Susan had to say. She had stopped listening fully after hearing the "family" and "the youngest" comments. She sighed, trying to pull her thoughts together. "Look, I'm not the one too busy to have time for the rest of the family. And you know it's true." She looked at her sister, all hints of the smile she usually wore gone. "Who's the one who stays locked up in his room everytime we try to do something together? And, might I point out that five years ago Peter was my age, four years ago you were. I'm eighteen, and I'm still not allowed to do anything exciting. And you know it. I mean, you've seen the sorts of things Peter wants me to attend. Besides, I have things of my own to do."

She stood up, turning away from Susan. She closed her eyes. "Remember years ago when ruling Narnia consisted of parties and banquents, as well as meetings and wars? We'd all have fun, laughing and making friends. No one has time for that anymore. Did you ever think that that's the most important part of ruling Narnia? Having a relationship with all the wonderful people here?"

Lucy glanced out the window. A few shadowy figures were visible just at the edge of the forest, which was only just visible in the distance. She sighed, pulling her diamond bottle from Father Christmas around her neck. She rarely used it, it was more of a sentimental thing. After tucking the bottle beneath her dress, she looked at her reflection in the mirror. "Look, Susan, I really must go. I made a promise to a friend, and I'm not about to break it." She placed her hand on the door, looking apologetically at her sister. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "There's not much else I can do at this point." She walked out the door, leaving her crown on the burea top.

Susan listened intently to all her sister had to say- her words rang true, after all. "Remember years ago when ruling Narnia consisted of parties and banquents, as well as meetings and wars? We'd all have fun, laughing and making friends. No one has time for that anymore. Did you ever think that that's the most important part of ruling Narnia? Having a relationship with all the wonderful people here?" Lucy said, and at that point Susan nodded solemnly.

"It would be wonderful to have those times back, I agree. I don't know when we got so busy, but Narnia is still our responsibility. Sometimes it just demands more out of us than we are used to," Susan muttered, looking at her sister.

"Look, Susan, I really must go. I made a promise to a friend, and I'm not about to break it." Lucy said, and Susan stood up, realizing that, for today at least, any problems between her brother and sister would stay standing- on one side at least. She fully intended to give Peter her two cents later. As Lucy placed her hand on the door, with Susan only paces behind her, she whispered "I'm sorry, There's not much else I can do at this point." Susan shrugged the comment off, but it was a bit confusing to her. Lucy walked out of the room first, seemingly forgetting her crown. Susan grabbed it's resting place, intent on giving it to her, but then decided not to. She would come back for it if she wanted it- Susan figured she would seem foolish returning it if Lucy didn't want it.

Susan made her way back down the stairs, and down the corridors, stopping every so often to bow and say hello to others as she did. Peter would be in the Throne room- he always was. He was always doing something that required him to either be out and about, or having meetings. Susan set her course for there, going over the words her sister had said to her in her head.

"I heard you coming, sister dear." Susan heard her brother as she rounded the corner, rolling her eyes as she did.

"Rats! I was trying so very hard to be quiet too," Susan said, smiling brightly as she bowed to her brother. He looked a bit tense, but Susan decided not to comment on it. He always looked tense. "Brother, I was wondering- we should take a break from this some time. Go out. Have a picnic. Do something other than keep Lucy locked up here and wonder about when the next chance of a slight attack by anyone is. Like a family,"Susan began to say, but just then Edmund came up to them.

''Brother, sister, how good it is to see you. I have missed you dearly.'' Edmund said, and Susan smiled brightly and hugged him tightly, forgoing all formalities. They were family after all. Soon, though, she had to let go and moved back, looking back to Peter.

"As I was saying before- it has been far too long without a real family get together. Work is important and all- we do have many responsibilities, but I cannot help but think that we are starting to act more like cohorts than a true family. That is something far worse than any attack- an attack we can overcome. A family breaking apart... I fear that would be impossible to fix all the way- like fixing a broken mirror," Susan said, looking to both of her brothers. It seemed like such a sort amount of time since they had been attending party after party- though, those times had been over for a while at best.

"As a matter of fact- why don't we go now. I have not heard tell of any horrible horrible threats to our person or kingdom, and it is a fine day out. One of you can go up to get Lucy, and I will go prepare a picnic," Susan said, leaving room for Peter or Edmund to deny her offer- she didn't want to seem to forceful, and Edmund might be tired from his travels, and Peter did look rather tense, even for Peter.

After Edmund said that, he was given a big, tight and loving hug from Susan. He smiled and hugged her back, he didn't care about formalities, he hadn't used them for some time now, he looked at her when she said, '' As I was saying before- it has been far too long without a real family get together. Work is important and all- we do have many responsibilities, but I cannot help but think that we are starting to act more like cohorts than a true family. That is something far worse than any attack- an attack we can overcome. A family breaking apart... I fear that would be impossible to fix all the way- like fixing a broken mirror.'' Edmund nodded in agreement, and looked at Peter, he then looked back at Susan and said, '' True, for it has been an eternity since we have just had a feast and have a grand time with our family. I agree with Susan, I think that would be splendid.'' Edmund smiled at Susan and took a deep breath, for he was a little tired, but not enough to stop him from enjoying company with his family, for it had been two weeks since he was away from home, after all.

Edmund looked back at Susan when she said, '' As a matter of fact- why don't we go now. I have not heard a telling of any horrible threats to our person or kingdom, and it is a fine day out. One of you can go up to get Lucy, and I will go prepare a picnic.'' Edmund nodded and said, '' I will go and fetch our sister. I think it would be splendid for her to see me. I haven't seen in yet, and I think this would give her some joy. I will return shortly.'' Edmund said as he went to Lucy's room.

Edmund walked down the hall and into the tower spiral, which is where Lucy's room was located. Edmund walked up to the door and took a deep breath, he sighed and knocked on the door gently. He waited for a reply, nothing. He knocked again, nothing. He then took his right hand and placed it on the gold, door knob. He opened the door and walked in, he wouldn't just walk in normally, but since she didn't answer he felt that he should do so. Edmund walked into her room and looked round, he said , '' Lu, Lucy where are you? '' He said with a curious and worried tone, he searched her room, no Lucy. He took a deep breath and walked out of the room, he walked down the stair case and found Susan and Peter. He walked up to them and said, '' Lu's not in her room. Where could she have gone? '' He said with curiosity and worry in his tone, not too much, but just enough to be noticed.
