- His teacher and mentor, 1A had implanted cybernetic receptors into his skull, enabling Magnus to intercept a variety of electronic frequencies and transmissions from a 10 mile radius. The cybernetic receptors also work as mental blockers, scrambling interference against telepaths that may try to read and control his mind.
Weaknesses:
Though he may have an enhanced body, he does not possess any super powers. Magnus may be in a league of his own when it comes to unarmed combat, but in return he has terrible marksmanship. Therefore, his abilities are only fully utilized when he is up close and personal with his target(s).
Personality: Charismatic, Boisterous, Charming, Intelligent, Thoughtful, Loud, and sometimes obnoxious, surly and temperamental.
History: Magnus was born on alternate Earth 3927, where machines ruled over humans with an iron fist. 1A, a self-aware and emotionally expressive robot, raised and developed Magnus on his own to protect the oppressed humans of their world and bring down the enslavers with a fiery justice. 1A trained Magnus with a 'perfect' method that over time transformed him into a superhuman machine killer. The icing on the cake would be a surgical procedure where 1A would implant cybernetic receptors into Magnus' brain which enabled him to hear 'machine talk.'
His campaign to liberate Earth from the machines was a long and brutal process. The final battle was on board an orbiting space station where the ultimate super computer was installed. Destroying it would create a domino effect back on Earth, rendering every machine inert, thus freeing the humans completely from their rule. Fighting through the station with his bare hands, he eventually comes across an advanced cyborg machine - the ultimate combat bot and host of the super computer. They fought in a frenzied, gut-wrenching slug fest until Magnus finally managed to destroy it. However, before the super computer permanently shut down, it captured Magnus in a gravitron teleporter sequence through a time stream until he crash lands into a barren moon.
Magnus is able to hitchhike between star systems, with every intention of trying to get back to his homeworld. He comes across a green-colored alien named Drax. They fight across a desolate planet for an entire day before finally negotiating a truce. Impressed by Magnus' skills, Drax offers him a chance to become a Guardian of the Galaxy. Magnus tells the alien his plight, explaining how he liberated Earth from the machines and how he simply wishes to return. Puzzled, Drax informs him of the current time line and status of Earth 616, suggesting that Magnus may be from an entirely different universe. Shocked by this revelation, he demands to go to Earth and confirm this for himself. Upon doing so, he witnesses firsthand that Drax's Earth is not his at all. Frustrated by these turn of events with no where to go, over time he finally accepts Drax's offer and enlists as a Guardian candidate.
Magnus hopes that by joining this band of cosmic super heroes, they will in turn, find a way to get him back home.
