- Declan has never been entirely the nicest guy in the world when you first meet him. He always pushes people away before anyone ever gets the chance to get close to him. This is mainly because of the way his father raised him. He was taught he needed to be mean, show people that he came from power and that he has the upper hand in everything just because he is the son of Joseph Van Den Berg. As much as he'd like to make his father proud, sometimes he feels that the things his father advises him to do just isn't worth it.
Deep down Declan is a very nice guy and wants to live a happy life with good friends and family in his life. But with the life his father is trying to make him live that is pretty difficult to show. Declan is also very popular with the ladies and has always had a hard time settling down with one woman mainly because he is scared of the commitment that goes along with it. His charm has always been something he'd use in order to get the women interested in him.

- ♦ Confidence - Declan's confidence in himself always seems to get him far in things he needs to take care of. At times his confidence makes him come off as a bit egotistical even though he isn't meaning it that way.

♦ Temper - It never seems to take very much to upset Declan. Partially because he is intoxicated most of the time and when he drinks it's hard for him to control his temper. But once his temper takes over, he tends to become very unpredicatable.

- ♦ Alcohol - Drinking alcohol enables him to calm down a bit and release his emotions without having to explain things to anyone. This isn't exactly a healthy way to calm himself down but it works for him.
♦ Parties - Even though Declan is more of a private person he does enjoy a good party every once in a while. It allows him to have a good time.
⟡ Money - Declan likes having the money his family has because it allows him to practically live the life he always wanted. He has the money to go on spontaneous trips, etc.

- ♦ Being compared to his father - Throughout his life he has always been told he is like his father and that is something that pisses him off every single time it happens. Honestly Declan is nothing like his father he just has to put on a facade in order to get any kind of support from Joseph.
⟡ People without money - Declan always seems to find it hard to associate himself with anyone who doesn't have as much money as he does. Mainly because the things he enjoys doing they aren't able to so he doesn't seem to go out of his way to spend time with anyone without the money.

- Declan Marcus Van Den Berg was born into a wealthy family. His father being the owner of Van Den Berg Industries. Ever since he was a child his father always told him that he was to take over the company when his father felt that he was no longer capable of doing it himself or if he died. Declan always seemed to look forward to that part of his life and always wanted to be like his father. At least it was that way when he was a child, now he doesn't care all that much to be like his father. Once he was older, he began to notice the things his father did to people and how he treated everyone in his life. That was nothing like what Declan ever wanted to be. But somehow Declan still ended up putting up a facade of that personality in order to get approval for his father so that he would still be the heir to the company.
Without Declan's mother around, things became so much more difficult for him when it came to dealing with his father. Declan's mother died when he was the young age of five and ever since then he never seemed to understand how she died because he father never wanted to talk about it. All he knew was that it had something to do with a fire.
While going through school he was always one of the most popular kids because of the money he came from and how charming he was with the ladies. He even had a couple rendezvous with a teacher. Whom of which was later fired and put into prison for a couple years once the affair was found out. Declan ended up having to be placed into a different school afterwards. He was also popular in this high school as well.
Throughout the last couple years of his high school life, his father continued teaching him the ropes of owning the company and wanted to be sure he knew how to deal with business deals, etc. This was going to be a very stressful part of his life but it's something Declan always wanted so he's willing to put up with his father as long as he needs to until the company is officially signed over to him.
