Setting
Radiating in summer light the palace???s white marble shines like a
beacon of beauty among the mostly common-stone build city. The symbol
of the city, the Siren, were envisioned in fifteen feet tall statues standing
tall at the gates of the palace. The Sirens, or Mermaids, were known to
live in the Centrusea's deep waters. Miles inland, where the large sea
was an unknown phenomenon, these creatures were considered myths. In
the haven city Lithena however, these Sirens were a known force of the
sea.
Lithena has stood tall and had prospered regardless of these
creatures however. Once mankind considered themselves the sea's
conquerors the first Lithenian King took the Siren as a symbol in his
weapon and thus for his city. The city has since counted more and
more statues and engravings portraying the beautiful Sirens.
In the city's center you'd find a large market-square buzzing with
trade, every day of the week. Many come to Lithena for fresh goods or
come for passage to Omperus. Due the great amount of people passing
through the local thieves and scams have thrived as well.
Separate from the market, one would find the poorer and more
rougher parts of the city near the docks. Where sailors and prostitutes
alike find their work. To the north-west, near and around the palace you
would find the rich Palace district. Many merchants and nobles owned
large marble houses in this district and here one would also find the more
expensive kind of shops.
Famous in the Palace district however is the coffee house named Atalantha (Balance) which is the brewing center of high-end merchants. All major contracts have originated here, while having a cup of tea. The
Atalantha exists of three floors, each floor has its own access restrictions.
The first floor is open for anyone able to buy the consummation, mostly
new and upcoming traders reside here. Second floor is accessible for
those who buy themselves a (very expensive) membership, mostly great
and well doing foreign traders reside here. The third floor is invitation
only, held only for those with great influence, money and power; the
invitations can only be given by existing members.
Yes, this is Lithena, the kingdom???s thriving capital of trade.
The city of Sirens.
