Setting
Officially the Malania Islands are part of the Tulban province, but the islands are so distant from Tulbanian culture and influence that it has come into popular parlance to indicate it as the fifth province. The islands are very tropical and are the perfect places for the cultivation of cocoa, tobacco and many spices. The trading of these commodities is the main source of income for the Chiefdom. Next to this they also possess the best organized fleet and thus have an almost exclusive right of the southern ocean. Their ships count among the fastest and largest in the continent. Outside the trade of commodities the Malania Chiefdom are the only ones who still actively practice slave trade. Often the slaves come from unknown islands and countries or are just criminals who have been punished this way.
The Malanian people are very recognizable because they have skin as dark as night and have a very exceptional hairstyle. Just as the Tulbanians, Malanians are indifferent about nudity and many march around with only sandals on their feet. However, they differ completely from the Tulban in their complete distaste for magic. People with the talent are often sold or transferred as soon as possible. Because of this aversion many Malanian parents have left children behind in the jungle. The origin of this behaviour is completely unknown and there is no reason to be found about anything hinting even close to an explanation. Something that also distinguishes the Malanian from the Tulbans is their indifference for the poorer among them.
Malanians have many poor people who live in the horror-neighbourhoods in their port cities. The rich Malanians consider poor people as actual vermin, and many a beggar are literally trampled to death if they came too close. Despite this brutal society they possess an unprecedented taste for theatre, music, and art. Many Malanian minstrels are also prompted to sea and the courteous theatres of Omperus as well Tulban consist essentially of Malanian minds and talents, some of which were brought in originally as slaves. Criminal law in this realm is maintained hard and often involve brutal punishments, however it has made most of the Malanian Islands free of (public) criminals. In the largest cities it is even possible to leave your purse sitting on a bench without it getting stolen. Although there are rumours about an organized thieves??? guild but there is no concrete evidence found yet on this subject.
