The world was flooded with super humans. No one knew how to control them, even the ones who possessed their chaotic abilities.

It all fell into chaos. With no way to control them, there were do-gooders and evil-doers destroying cities. Some of these super humans hid away, keeping these abilities to the safety of the mountains or an island halfway out to sea. Most super humans wanted to use their abilities, to stop the evil or create it. There was no balance, no sense of good or evil when both sides were uncontrollable.

This is how the Department of Super Human Affairs came to be. This government department synthesized the power negation abilities of one of their agents to form the negation medication, and have also transmitted the ability to any high ranking official in the department. With those safety measures in place, the Hero Service program could start.

Participants were sought out once they reached puberty. Those without any abilities, at least by the tests currently available to detect abilities, were approved to live their lives as they wish, considering they were currently not a threat to the community's safety.

Those with abilities were given two options: their abilities could be controlled by a negation medication, or they could join the Hero Service.

After primary schooling is finished, those who have chosen the Hero Service route are sent through a series of test to determine their current capabilities. They have been training in specialized classes during their formative years to control their abilities, but now they needed to cultivate the abilities to their full potential. Four years of training would lead them to be official heroes, able to use their abilities to protect others and ensure the safety of the general population.

The newest Heroes in Training would be stepping into their first year as official trainees. After years of controlling their abilities, unable to use them unless authorized by a government agent or a Hero Service official, they now have the chance to flourish, or completely self destruct.

Sapphire couldn’t help but chuckle as Josiah mentions not thinking about the guards. She had been scoping out the facility inch by inch, especially when it was just her and Agent Orinwell working on her ability while she was recuperating. She had to take walks in between them sitting for a few hours at a time, and took note of the facility and everywhere she was authorized to go to. There was a pool locked down for the winter with an abandoned pool house, it would be the best place for them to sneak through to the city.

The problem at hand was convincing Dominic to go. It wouldn’t look right for the three of them to go without their teammate, especially if they did end up getting caught. As far as Sapphire was aware, the trainers weren’t coming in at all today, making it easier to hatch an escape plan. She even piped up after Trinity, ”Also there’s no way we’d lose our travelling privileges forever. Maybe for a month or so. We have to go out if they want us on missions.”

Dominic sighed. He was getting pressured from all of his teammates to sneak out when he clearly wasn’t convinced anything good would come out of it. He’d never been in D.C. before, so it would be a good chance to explore the city they’d have most of their missions in. And Trinity had a good point. If they limited their time out, there was less of a chance of them getting caught. He glared at Sapphire and Josiah as he answered, ”You better have a good plan then. I’m not losing my traveling privilege for any of you.”

Sapphire’s eyes lit up with excitement, and she jogged back over to her room to grab a map she started making of the facility. ”Strategy is my second ability.” Sapphire answers with a confident grin. She details out the plan for her teammates, using the door out to the pool. There would be less guards in the area because there wasn’t a need for an outdoor pool and any type of ambush would be deflected by a smaller amount of guards. They would time out the rounds between guards by listening for their boots getting to the door and leaving from the door, and use that time to sprint out to the pool house and hide. Once all of them were out, they could survey the land from there.

Dominic hated to admit it, but her plan was well thought out for the little time it had taken to plan it. Her ability was one he couldn’t see with their current training, but even this was a glimpse into the magic of her mind. ”Is this what you were doing while recovering?” Dominic asks her, in a tone that made Sapphire feel self-conscious about her basic layout of the facility. ”I mean, just something I did in my freetime, I didn’t put that much-“

”Relax. It’s very detailed.” Dominic cuts her off, standing up from the table and trashing his breakfast. ”Well if we’re going to do this, let’s do it.”

It was a miracle that Dominic even agreed, but now the entire team was on board. Next was the plan. Sapphire must have been working on this for a while because it was detailed and well thought out. It was simple enough to understand as well as execute. As long as they were paying attention and that the guards kept up their rotation schedule everyone would be able to get out without any difficulty. The team agreed on the plan and decided to leave right away. If they tried to delay the time then they would never get out. The team took time to head back to their rooms to either change or grab anything they think they would need. Trinity made sure she got a pocket knife and Josiah grabbed a hoodie for the cold weather. The first step of the plan was to unsuspiciously gather at the back door where the pool was. The team made sure that no one was around in the hallways or near the door. Luckily it was just the four of them.

The pool house was only a couple steps away, so once each of them made it out the door it was a straight shot. First up was Sapphire. She was the one that had originally timed out the guards so she was able to better tell them when it was the best time to go. She disappeared out the door and the team silently listened out for the next set of footprints. There weren't any words coming from anyone on the other side of the door so the team could only assume that she had made it without difficulty. Next was Josiah. Once the footsteps were no longer heard at the door, Josiah ran through and got to the pool house easily, with some help with his speed enhancement. He met up with Sapphire in the pool house to wait for the others. Next up was Trinity who could feel her heart beating against her chest. Again the footsteps disappeared from the door and she reluctantly ran out making it to the pool house. All they needed to do was wait for Dominic, but they weren’t surprised that he was able to make it across with ease and grace. Once in the pool house, they took a moment to survey the land.

They would still have to leave out the front door of the poolhouse, but as long as the guards weren’t paying attention to the shed, they would be fine. With the same concept as getting to the pool house, they would leave out one at time further behind the pool house and away from the facility. A series of trees lined the back. They just needed to get through to the other side and they would be home free. One by one they got across the lining of trees to the road. ”Woah...we actually did it..Nice plan Saph.” Josiah complimented. He stretched dramatically and smiled bright at the group. That was a very good covert operation that they were just able to run for just a week of training. Trinity was both shocked and impressed that they were even able to get across without getting caught. She tried to not think about the lack of security for that back door.

The excitement quickly took over her and she giggled a bit. ”I can’t wait to show you the city!” Trinity was in her element and she would happily act as the tour guide. She loved her hometown more than anything. It didn’t take very long to get to the heart of the city and it was bustling with people. It was nice to see people doing normal things. Eating out, laughing together, playing together, and just genuinely having a good time. Trinity was very excited and already had a plan for them. ”First we have to start with the monuments, it sits on this lake that is so pretty. And then the museums that are all free. And- Trinity gasped. ”The national park! It looks so pretty when its covered in snow.” Josiah laughed. ”That sounds like we are going to need more than just a few hours, but I’m down. Lead the way, Trinity.”

Sapphire never expected to be planning a breakout of a government facility out of boredom, especially with three friends that had abilities just like her. This was something she couldn’t have even dreamed of, and it was silly to think of it like a dream, but it was compared to where she came from. Even more so, they trusted her plan and it turned out to be successful. She was practically beaming once all of them were out at the pool house and Josiah complimented her on the plan.

She could feel the excitement coming from all of them, except for Dominic. He didn’t seem as grumpy but he certainly wasn’t as into this impromptu field trip to D.C. Dominic still wasn’t totally convinced they wouldn’t get caught, but as long as they were out, he would try to enjoy himself. Watching Trinity get excited about the city certainly improved his mood, though he didn’t want her to get too excited and lose track of time. ”We shouldn't stay out too long. We can choose one or two things to do today and plan for more when we’re actually allowed to travel out. I’ll gladly come along again.” Dominic adds. He didn’t care if his teammates were annoyed by his worry, but he didn’t want any of them to get caught.

Sapphire was just as excited as Trinity. She moves up to walk beside Trinity and grins, ”I’ve never been in D.C. before so you have to show me the best places to shop!” Sapphire replies with almost a squeal. After a week of being isolated to the training facility with just the trainers, the city felt like a culture shock. So many people, so many buildings, so many things to do. Sapphire knew she would head straight to the city on her days off if it meant she could experience a bustling downtown like this. Detroit was all big factories and the snow didn’t look nearly as pretty as this.

Dominic did start to enjoy himself when they went to one of the museums. The city atmosphere was what he was actually missing for once, and D.C. had so much more history. They’d recently announced a new museum dedicated to the history of superhuman, but the lot it was supposed to be built on was no more than a frame of a building at this point. He would have to keep an eye on it, he would be the first visitor if he could. The history of super humans and the start of the Hero Service had always fascinated him.

Sapphire wanted to stay out in the city forever with her friends, but there was only so much time before they would cause suspicion. On one hand, it would be nice to be a normal teenager without the obligations of an ability and go shopping on the weekends. But Sapphire knew that while this was fun for one day, she and the rest of the team had a place as heroes, and none of them would give that up for this temporary fun. Still, it was nice not worrying about training or their trainers or any of their responsibilities. Plus, sapphire found plenty of shopping opportunities and took every chance to get to know her teammates better.

It was much too soon to go back, but she knew as well as the rest of them that they couldn’t stay out any longer. The trek back was not as satisfying as the journey there, but she was glad that they were able to do it as a team.

Dominic was thinking of their only obstacle left: getting back into the building, which should be as simple as running back in. Sapphire was the first to run back, in between the guard rounds that seemed shorter now that they were going back in, and his heart stopped as she went to open the door and it didn’t budge. ”Shit…” Dominic didn’t think about the doors being locked from the inside, and judging by Sapphire’s panicked look, she didn’t either.

”Excuse me!” Sapphire called to the guard rounding the corner, who immediately quickened his pace and came straight over to her. Dominic was sure the girl had lost her mind in her panic, but she was cool and collected as she spoke to him. ”I’m so sorry, I just came out to get some fresh air and apparently locked myself out. Could you let me in please?” Sapphire bats her eyes at the guard, who uses a gadget to identify her with a touch of her index finger and lets her inside.

Sapphire listens for the guard to leave, thankful thay her plan worked. Once she’s sure there's no guard coming, she peeks her head out and frantically motions at someone to cross over while she can open the door.

Although Trinity’s mind was racing with things that they could do now they weren’t under the close eyes of the facility, Dominic was the voice of reason the entire trip. She made to just stick to the historical district. They all seem to be relatively new to the city so she wanted to show them what made it so great. The area was busy with people, but not overcrowded. Trinity acted as the tour guide, explaining everything that they could see. Luckily, she packed her phone so that she could take pictures with her new friends. She picked out some of the museums that they could get through without taking too much time. Trinity made a mental note that for the next time they come out to hit the other museums they missed today. The most important part of the trip was the shopping. Well it was at least important to Sapphire and Trinity. They spent plenty of time, probably too much time if you asked the boys, buying up clothes and trinkets. Trinity also made sure they stopped every so often to get snacks for Josiah since that was all he seemed to want during this trip. Unfortunately it was time to head back the same way they came.

No one had considered that the door was only unlocked from the inside. The rest of the team were in a quiet panic, ready to act quickly if Sapphire needed the help. They also weren’t expecting Sapphire to basically turn herself in, but it seemed to work out. She made it inside and was gesturing for everyone else to get moving. One by one, they managed to get through the back door making sure to keep in time with the guards movements. The rotation was shorter than before, but they managed to all make it inside without getting caught. Once safely inside, the group made their way to Trinity and Dom’s room. ”That was so much fun!” Trinity exclaimed. She politely took her shopping bags from Dom and dumped everything out onto the bed.

Josiah shut the door behind them all. He handed Sapphire her shopping bags and sat in the desk chair. He pulled the bag of chips out of his hoodie pocket and resumed eating. ”We are definitely doing that again.” He stated more as a promise than a question. Now that he had tasted freedom, there was no way that he was going to spend unnecessary amounts of time inside. Especially if they were going to keep making him do chores every time he was late to training. He wasn’t planning on being late any more, but he got tired after all the training. He had to remember to ask Sapphire to wake him up for training. Josiah finished his bag of chips and tossed the bag in the trash. ”Also Trinity, can you send me the pictures.” Pulling his phone out of his pocket, he tossed it over to Trinity to put in her number and send over the photos.

The first full month of training was finally over.

Dominic’s routine has leveled out even more than in the first week. His body was growing used to the stress of high intensity training, and he wasn’t getting as sore after full days of training unless they were working a new skill. He’d only spoken with his family a few times, though their attitude towards his training even when it was going successfully was still not encouraging. He decided to keep his contact to a minimum so it wouldn’t affect his determination. All he was doing at this point was improving and he didn’t want to take a step back.

Sapphire was settling in better after the hectic first week. She still had independent sessions with Agent Orinwell, as he was the most helpful when it came to building her ability to a higher level, but she was putting her all into the physical training. She was working on getting her running distance longer especially, as well as the amount of weight she could lift. It made her feel more powerful than she ever felt before. She didn’t realize how out of shape she was until she had to get into hero service shape, which was a new level of exercise and discipline.

The combat training was making her realize just how little of her ability would be used in the field. When it came down to it, her ability didn’t give her any outright advantages in battle. She was working on some gadgets that would assist her in combat, but she would have to fight her opponents and enemies with no enhancements like her teammates. And if she wanted to stay on this team, she would need to work on her weapon and combat skills even more than the rest of them. Thankfully, she had plenty of helping hands and wouldn’t be in this alone.

Now all they needed was a chance to prove themselves. Dominic was practically itching to get out into the field on a mission and prove they were worth more than the scared kids that couldn’t fight on their first day of training. Sure, he was a bit nervous that their opponents were out of their league, but he also tried to assure himself that their trainers wouldn’t send them out to fail. There were plenty of heroes in the service to catch the criminals they weren’t ready for.

Sapphire on the other hand, would happily spend the next few months in training before actually going into the field. She was having more nightmares than usual, and their main focus was a mission going wrong. She was mainly worried about being a burden on the field. She was proud of her new skills, but sometimes she felt like they didn’t add up to her teammates’ skills. She was still losing most of her combat battles as well, and didn’t want to repeat that failure when their lives could be at stake.

She knew it was coming sooner than she wanted. The trainers were doing more simulations with them, and Agent Orinwell had asked her to work on unique communication devices for herself and her team members. She was sure the moment a villain stepped out of line and started causing havoc, they would be on the front lines of the battle.

”All members of Team Alpha report in uniform immediately to the control room for mission debrief.”

She hadn’t heard the overhead system since the first day so the loud alert jolted Sapphire, then she froze in her place as she processed it. Just as she was worrying about a mission again, they’re called to one. Her hands were only lightly shaking as she got into her uniform for the first time. She’d designed it for hacking and covert, so it wasn’t as flashy as usual heroes. But for her, a black turtleneck with black jeans and black boots was all she really needed, along with a black baseball hat and black aviators she loaded with technical abilities to complete the look.

Dominic had decided a navy bodysuit would be the best option for combat, and designed it with the help of his siblings to stand out as a hero. It got his heart racing, sliding the kevlar over his body and readying himself for his first battle as a hero.

The four teammates were in the control room with their trainers in full uniform and a mixture of emotions flooded the room. ”There is an ongoing attack on the North side of D.C. A former hero service trainee we have been tracking has decided to show herself. You are being deployed to help detain this criminal alive.

A full month of training and now they were going to have their first mission. Trinity has learned so much since the first day of being part of the Hero Service. She didn’t think that she was particularly ready for a mission, but she knows that she is stronger than before. Trinity has increased her combat skills and learned how to use even more weapons. She was mostly proud of herself and her strength. Trinity was able to get higher up on the weights and even though she was still weaker than the rest of the time, she was at the lower end of the heavy weights and that was all that mattered to her. Trinity has been keeping her mother updated about everything with training and her teammates. Mostly she talked about how much she would talk about how much she made friends with them and that she was happy to be here. She tries not to call her everyday, but it always feels like everyday. Trinity slipped into her black leather catsuit, pulling the zipper all the way up to the top. Her utility belt wrapped snugly around her waist, harboring her two handguns, retractable metal staff, extra ammo, and her trusty butterfly knives. Her hair tied up into a bun as she slipped into her combat boots. She tied a ribbon with eye holes cut out around her eyes and went off to the mission briefing.

Josiah could honestly say that he had made more progress than he had anticipated. Though not originally not wanting to be here, he was happy that he was here. Josiah had been better at controlling his emotions in regards to transforming without any control. His muscles were also getting used to the constant shifts between his human form and monster form. Even more so, in his monster form he was better able to recognize his team than he had in the past. Throughout the month he has even managed to mostly show up on time to all of the training. However, he will admit that he has cleaned the cafeteria enough times that he is able to know all the best places to hide snacks for him and his team after hours. Mostly for him, but he was willing to share. He was beyond excited to go on the mission. He was tired of being trapped inside and he wanted to fight for real. The combat training was nice, but it wasn’t enough to test if any of them were actually good. He dressed in basic black sweats and tshirt. He didn’t wear a mask since it would break if he shifted. He was probably the only one that walked away from the mission briefing with a large smile.

Team Alpha accepted the mission. Stop and Detain the villain. It was simple enough and if this team was being sent, then their handler must also think it was doable despite only having a month of training. There wasn’t much time after the debriefing to talk amongst themselves. The villain was currently wreaking havoc, so they would need to plan on the way. Agent Orinwell lead them to the motorcycles they were going to use in order to get there. Josiah didn’t hesitate to take hold of one. ”There are only two.” Trinity pointed out. ”Gotta double up. Now come on.” Josiah stated. Trinity didn’t know how to ride a motorcycle anyway. She got on the back of Dom’s and once Saph loaded up they were off. ”We need a plan.” Trinity said, hoping the communicators were clear enough to hear each other despite the speed of the motorbike.

Dominic was trying to think of a solid plan once they got there, but his mind was racing with everything but a plan. ”You all have the comm devices I made, right?” Sapphire asks them. Dominic nods, pulling it out of his ear and then slides it back in. ”Let’s keep in constant communication. Assuming she hasn’t recruited any help, we should be able to take her down with a little coordination. If we have to split up, it should only be in two groups.” Sapphire knows this is only a simple plan until they knew what they were dealing with, but it was all she could think of right now.

It wasn’t hard to spot the villain even when they were still a few blocks back. ”We can try a long distance attack, see how easily rattled she is,” Sapphire adds, pulling a group of throwing knives from the motorcycle and facing the direction of the villain. She takes this chance to send her knife flying through the air.

The villain’s laugh echoed through the air as chaos reigned. Civilians were running about ducking for cover as she continued to throw various bombs out into crowds. The bombs weren’t powerful enough to take down buildings, but enough to injure any passerby. To add to the chaos, some of the bombs only had confetti coming out just to scare some of them. A knife whizzed past her, cutting her cheek as she quickly dodged. The smile stopped and she turned to look at the group of heroes. ”Who sent me wannabes? Am I not hurting enough people for a real hero?” Mimic tossed a bomb towards them.

Josiah laid eyes on the bomb, his eyes immediately turning red. He moved towards it with lightning speed and threw it high into the air. The bomb reached high enough in the air to go off without hurting anyone. ”I think she is easily rattled.” He stated.

Trinity pulled out her gun, quickly placing an accuracy state on it. ”We need to clear out the civilians so they don’t get hurt.” She stated and Josiah nodded. With enhanced speed, he sped around to get people far enough away from the crossfire.

Sapphire shoved her knives into the handles on the side of her jeans, eyeing out the territory and taking in any information she can from the scene. ”I think if you and Prodigy attack her head on, Goliath and I can focus on keeping the civilians safe and one of us can step in if we need to. She’s underestimating us so we can take her down with her least expecting it.” Sapphire barks into her comm device, keeping one of her knives firmly in her hand.

Dominic nodded, looking over at the villain attacking. She didn’t look much older than them, but her mind was obviously in the wrong place. He saw all the civilians’ faces, how terrified they were. It only made him want to protect them more. He’d be prepping for a day like this, watching martial arts videos and combat videos to instill into his muscle memory. Of course, the last of his power wasn’t enough to make it long in this battle with borrowed moves, but he would make it last until they could detain the criminal and stop all of this havoc. He swiftly moved forward, eyes on the villain until he charged forward and aimed for a front kick to her head.

Mimic huffed as the bomb didn't scare off the wannabes like she wanted. Instead they split up which made it easier for her to deal with them. She took note of where the other two went while her focus remained on the two obviously meant to keep her distracted. One in navy charged at her and she waved a hand, shifting his kick to the right so it missed her completely. Mimic pulled out a confetti cannon and shot him in his chest with it. "Well since you insist on pretending to be heroes, I might as well explain why I'm here." Waving another hand, she made Trinity re-holster her weapon. "My name is Mimic and I'm here to expose the Hero Service for the true villains. Forcing children to decide if they want to put their lives on the line or be vulnerable to villains. They sit in their fortress sending you to do the dirty work, watching heroes die just to replace them. If the hero service was so great then villains shouldn't exist and yet here I am. Once I deal with you four and summon a real hero and killing them, it will show these people that the hero service doesn't actually protect them. It protects the higher ups.

Trinity was a bit confused as to why her gun wasn't in her hand, but quickly pulled it back out making sure it was loaded. Then she could hear Josiah laughing on their communicators. "Was that a monologue? What kind of villain still gives a monologue? She has to be new.".

Dominic was knocked back a few feet by the villain’s cannon, grunting as he barely stayed on his feet. He rolled his eyes at her long speech, thinking the words that were coming from her mouth were nothing more than garbage. There were plenty of people like her who hated the Hero Service, but most of those people weren’t bombing the city. He glares at the villain as Josiah jokes into their ear, and uses his body language analysis hoping to get the edge on this villain. ”We have to end this quick or she may turn back to the civilians.”

Sapphire was noticing something off about Mimic. Dominic usually didn’t miss his attacks, especially using his muscle memory which she was sure he was. It was starting to click when Trinity re-holstered her weapon, and Sapphire had to test her theory about this villain’s ability. ”Distract her again, I want to try something,” sapphire says low into the comms, her grip tightening on the knife as she waits for the villain to be distracted and she throws a knife from where she and Josiah are protecting civilians.

Trinity nodded at Sapphire's words. She was clearly thinking of something. She placed the state accuracy on her gun before firing off two shots. Mimic waved a hand again and it was almost as if she didn't shoot her gun at all. Mimic then groaned as a knife lodged into her arm. She quickly pulled it out and dropped it onto the ground. Grabbing another bomb, she tossed it in the direction of where the knife came from. Josiah sped over to where the bomb landed and threw it up into the air so that it would explode above the buildings. "You got her!" Trinity said, keeping a tight grip on her gun.

Sapphire’s eyes went wide when the bomb was tossed towards them, but thankfully Josiah was reacting quickly and got rid of it just as easily as he did the first time. Her experiment showed that she could only use her ability on one person, as Sapphire’s knife hit its target. She felt a surge of pride with that, but had to remain focused. She guessed Mimic could control the movement of her enemy somehow? That part was unclear, but she needed to do more testing to truly understand it. She threw another knife in the villain’s direction, fully aware that she would anticipate the attack this time and Sapphire could see her ability for herself.

Mimic scowled as the bomb went back off in the air. If she could see who was doing it she could undo it. Next time she will have to throw more bombs. Another knife was headed her way, but she saw who did. She waved her hand changing where Sapphire had thrown the knife. Trinity groaned as the knife ended up in her arm. "ow!" Mimic started laughing and grabbed three bombs. She tossed them in three separate directions. "Try and catch those." she said proudly.

Josiah grabbed one of the bombs closest to the civilians he was protecting and tossed it into the air. The other one went off near a statue but the other landed near Sapphire. Josiah ran at Saph, picking her up and running with her, far away enough from the bomb before it went off.

Sapphire wasn’t sure where she thought Mimic was going to send the knife, but she didn’t mean for it to turn onto Trinity. ”Tr-Rogue, I-“ She was starting a panicked apology when she saw Mimic’s bomb landing in her direction. Before she could run, Josiah’s arm wrapped around her waist and she was whisked off before the bomb could go off and blow Sapphire to pieces. She had to catch her breath and think. She had to go on what information she already had, she couldn’t risk another one of her teammates getting hurt.

Dominic was immediately at Trinity’s side, unlodging the knife carefully. ”She's reflecting our short and long range attacks. If we don’t make a good plan, Rogue isn’t going to be the only one getting hurt,” Dominic growls into the comms, mainly directed at Sapphire. He knew she didn’t mean for Trinity to get hurt but she had to be more careful out here. They didn’t know anything about their enemy and she was clearly doing better than them.

”I’m sorry okay? I’m trying to make a plan,” Sapphire hisses back, forcing herself to regulate her breathing and make a plan. She knew now that Mimic could change trajectories and movements of one person, and had long range weaponry at hand that had to be a limited amount. ”We’re going to have to hit her with multiple attacks, long and short range. If we all attack her at the same time, she can’t deflect all of our attacks, right?”

Trinity was trying not to let the pain get to her. But the knives her teammate had were sharp and precise. Made to make targeted damage in a distinct location. Dom got it out, but it didn't really lessen the pain. "I'm okay. Prodigy and I can do up close attacks, if you continue to dole out long range attacks. Goliath can keep you and the citizens safe." Solidifying the plan that Sapphire had figured out.

Mimic rolled her eyes and tossed her confetti cannon aside. "If you two are done gossiping, I would like to get this over with." She pulled out the rocket launcher she stashed behind the bushes. She aimed it at Dom and Trinity, quickly pulling the trigger. Trinity pushed Dom hard away from her and she jumped back allowing the rocket launcher to go off behind them.

Josiah set Sapphire down, making sure she remained hidden. He looked over her a second to make sure no parts of the bomb had any affect on her. "Stay here. I am going to move the citizens farther away." Josiah took off running back to the people, helping them evacuate to safety.

Dominic was getting more frustrated by the second. If she was able to block attacks so easily, he had no chance of getting a hit on her. Trinity was better to get an attack in but he could see the knife injury was starting to affect her. ”Listen, I’ll go in and try to attack her, you follow right behind me and get a hit,” Dominic speaks as low as he can once the rocket goes off without hurting either of them. He looked over to Sapphire and Josiah. Josiah was moving all the citizens so they wouldn’t be so concerned with keeping them out of the range of attack. Sapphire stood at the entrance, a knife cradled in one hand and a small orb in the other.

Dominic shook off the tenseness from his muscles and ran forward again. He wasn’t worried about attacking her directly, but he wanted that launcher out of her hand and he immediately went to try and grab Mimic’s wrist and throw her against the nearest wall. If it didn’t work, he knew Trinity was right behind him, and sapphire was waiting just out of the shadows.

Trinity nodded at Dominic in understanding and stood back up after the rocket went off. They needed to act quickly. Things were getting deadlier.

Mimic was loading another rocket as Dominic was coming in to attack. She waved a hand over him, undoing his movement sending him back to where he started. What she wasn't accounting for was Trinity to come up with butterfly knives. Mimic jumped back, dropping the rocket launcher. Trinity kicked it off to the side. Mimic glared at them and reached into her holster, shooting at Trinity. She quickly jumped out of the way while Mimic ran after her rocket launcher.

Sapphire was on the side where the rocket launcher had stopped. She immediately ran for it, grabbing onto it and stepping back as Mimic started to come back for her weapon. She never held a weapon this deadly and massive before, taking two hands to train it at Mimic. ”This is over, you hear me?” she yells at the villain. Her eyes glared at her opponent but her hands were slightly shaking as she held up the weapon.

While the villain was focused on Sapphire, Dominic was in the best position to attack her from the side. This time he was going right at her, planning to tackle her from the side while Sapphire was holding the launcher.

Mimic looked to Sapphire and couldn't help the smirk that came to her face. "I couldn't agree more." She waved a hand, forcing Sapphire to pull the trigger of the rocket launcher. Mimic then dodged out of the way of Dominic and moved to hide behind the nearby statue, waiting to hear the rocket go off.

Trinity's eyes went wide. "Prodigy watch out!" The rocket was aimed right at him. Out of nowhere, Josiah in his monstrous form, grabbed Dominic and turned his back to the rocket. It hit his backside, making him growl, but it didn't injure him as much. Trinity was within the blow and was sent flying backwards. She was scratch free but the wind was knocked out of her.

Mimic came out of hiding, laying eyes on Goliath. "Oh. I don't like you." she stated simply, waving at hand over him to undo his transformation. Without delay, Josiah was back to his human form. "What the hell?"

Sapphire was frozen in her spot, other than the launcher dropping from her hands and cracking on the pavement. Without Josiah coming in at the last second, she would have killed her teammate. She stepped backwards, unable to look at Dominic. She couldn’t believe that Mimic was powerful enough to undo Josiah’s transformation. She couldn’t believe any of it. And her disbelief turned to blind anger fast. She took off running at the villain before she could even think about how to attack.

Dominic was yanked out of the way, and if it wasn’t for Josiah, he wouldn’t have escaped as much as the blow as Josiah allowed for. He could tell Sapphire was obviously shaken by the attack, and her usual planned moves were out the window as she rushed forward. He decided to do the same, rushing towards Mimic from the back with hope that if Sapphire was dodged, he would get the attack in.

Trinity scrambled to her feet and pulled out her retractable staff adding the state heavy to it. She followed the lead of her teammates. If they hit her all at once then at least one of them should be able to get a hit in.

Mimic waved a hand at Sapphire, shifting her attack to the left from her. She didn't have enough time to block Dominics attack from the back or the hit from Trinity with her staff. She stumbled backwards, shaking off the pain. Without much warning, Trinity went after her again. Josiah took a moment to collect his thoughts prior to shifting once again. Mimic ducked under the staff while waving another hand to undo Josiah's transformation. "Dammit!" He stated angrily before trying to shift again.

Sapphire tumbled to the street but quickly pulled herself up, immediately going in for the attack. She still wasn’t thinking, there wasn’t any time to think. The adrenaline was pumping in her ears and she was doing anything to protect her teammates instead of almost killing them. She jumped up and tried to kick Mimic right in the face. Dominic was going back in as well. It seemed that if they all attacked at once there was a least one attack that would always hit. He sweeps his leg low in the hopes of knocking Mimic off of her feet.

Mimic waved her hand at Dominic, moving his feet to the right but she took a blow from Sapphire in the face. Mimic stumbled into Josiah's monstrous form. Josiah grabbed hold of the villain and brought her up to eye level. He growled lowly and started to squeeze. Mimic groaned and wiggled around in pain.

"Mimic you are under arrest. Surrender now.". Trinity held up her gun, ready to shoot in case she had any more tricks.

Sapphire took a brief second to catch her breath, then grabbed the handcuffs from their motorcycle and got Josiah to lower the villain enough for her to get the handcuffs on. Adrenaline was still pumping through her system and she wanted nothing more than to pummel her for hurting her teammates. But she stepped back, allowing for the team to take her over the officials waiting to take the criminal off of their hands. ”Team Alpha first mission is a success,” Dominic breathes out, looking at his teammates with awe in his eyes. Their first mission, and they won. They defeated the criminal and saved the city, just like they always wanted.

With Mimic safely apprehended, officials arrived along with their handler. Several agents took hold of Mimic who was struggling in their hold as they placed her in the back of the transport vehicle. Agent Angel walked up to the team, hands neatly placed behind her back. ”The mission was successful. Mimic will be taken to the Department of Justice Prison Center where she will no longer be a threat to society. Return to the facility and visit the infirmary to tend to any wounds. You are dismissed.” Agent Angel left the team to ride in the transport vehicle.

Dominic had never felt more fulfilled in his life. As he and the team rode back to the facility, he couldn’t help but feel proud. They were real heroes out there, even if the villain didn’t think so. And it didn’t matter what she thought now that she was being locked away. They wouldn’t have to worry about her, and that was thanks to Team Alpha.

”I’m so sorry,” Dominic didn’t expect Sapphire’s voice so gravelly, and when he looked at her she was looking at him with tears welling in her eyes. ”The mission was a success, what’s wrong?” Dominic wasn’t tue one for being comforting, but obviously she felt like she had something to apologize for and he could at least listen. She opened her mouth to speak, then her eyes welled up before and she looked down to her lap. ”Yeah but it was my fault Trinity got hurt- and if Josiah wasn’t there, that rocket launcher- I wasn’t thinking-“

”Sapphire,” Dominic interrupted her, causing his teammate to look up and brush away the hot tears at her lids. He sighed, running a hand through his hair, before telling her, ”We didn’t know what to expect out there. You did what you thought was best, and none of us blame you for anything you did out there. We have to trust each other to make those decisions even if they backfire. Alright?” Sapphire sniffled and nodded, blinking away the rest of the tears and sitting back up against the seat.

Dominic turned his attention to the knife wound on Trinity’s arm. He’d taken a bandage from the motorcycle and gently took her arm, wiping away the blood as best he could with a towelette from Sapphire and then placed the bandage on. When he looked up to her, there was a hint of concern in his eyes, ”That should hold you over until we get back to the facility and I can help you to the infirmary. How bad is it hurting?”

Dominic was fine overall, the most he had was maybe a few bruised ribs from being thrown around so much by Mimic, along with some scratches and scrapes that came with fighting. Sapphire was closer to the building debris when they were fighting and had a lot of glass embedded into her clothes, though nothing looked deep. The fabric of the jeans and the turtleneck were a lot thicker than they appeared to be. He wasn’t sure she totally believed him about her mistakes today. Truthfully, he did think that she shouldn’t have made those attacks, but she was already upset and he wasn’t totally heartless.

If he woke up sore tomorrow it wouldn't be training this time. Dominic was the one to make sure all of them went to the infirmary at least to be checked out, and helped Trinity get to the infirmary. Sapphire walked with Josiah to get there, plucking pieces of glass out of her arm sleeve. She wanted to ask him what he thought, but she was too exhausted to hold up a conversation. Once she saw the nurse, she was going straight to bed.

It was over. Their first mission was over and Trinity couldn’t have been more proud of their team. Sapphire did such a great job with being quick on her feet and figuring out the villains weakness. And everyone was so adaptable and working well as a team. For only a month's worth of training, they did a great job. They rode back to the facility and Trinity couldn’t hang on to Dominic very tightly. Her arm was killing her. She was so happy that Sapphire had gotten good at throwing knives, but also regretting helping her with that at this particular moment.

It felt good to be back at the facility. The walls have never felt safer than this moment. Sapphire then out of nowhere started crying and Trinity could only vaguely understand everything she was saying. Dominic got a handle on it and Trinity just smiled politely. The mission was a success and the injuries were minor. Trinity was ready to get to the infirmary, but was stopped as Dominic tended to her knife wound. She could feel her heart beating faster and her face getting red slightly. After a month of constantly being in each other’s presence as well as getting one to one training time, Trinity has started to feel a certain way about her teammate. She has mostly been able to keep it to herself, but now he was making direct eye contact with her. ”I-its uh..fine. I’m fine. The words stumbled out of her mouth and she could feel her cheeks getting hotter. She moved her arm a bit too fast as she removed it from his hand and winced. ”Thank you. Really.” Trinity smiled past the pain.

Josiah could tell his muscles were going to be sore. He was forced out of shift twice and he couldn’t prep his body for it. He was just happy to have succeeded in the mission. His back hurt a bit as the remnants of the rocket stuck with him. There were other bruises, but he wasn’t worried about any of them. He walked with Sapphire to the infirmary, looking over her to make sure she was okay. He did his best to make sure that she wasn’t hurt by any of the bombs, but he was just double checking, Sapphire reminded her of his siblings that he couldn’t help, but stress. He didn’t try to ask Sapphire any questions. He didn’t want to bug her.

They all made it to the infirmary in one piece. The nurse made sure to tend to each and every one of them. She made sure to tend to every bruise, place a band-aid on each scratch, pass around pain medications, and make sure that they had everything they needed to freshen up their bandages in the morning. She sent them all off to their dorms for bed.

”You’re not giving those kids a full day of training tomorrow, Suzana. You shouldn’t be giving them any training tomorrow, you’re lucky I approved them for that.”

Agent Angel stood against the doorframe of the infirmary. After every mission, she had to get approval from the health practitioner on staff that the team was healthy enough to continue with training. No matter what any of the trainers, nor the trainers, thought of a specific person’s health, they wouldn’t be allowed back on any training assignment or mission without written approval. Agent Angel had intimidated plenty of practitioners in the past, but they had a change of staff with this new team and she was stone solid. ”I’ve seen heroes continue to battle with their arms cut off,” Agent Angel countered, determined to get her way.

Evelyn Dachter was not amused. ”Those are certified heroes years out of training. This was their first mission. I’m only approving a half day.” She makes it very clear that this was all she was offering, so Agent Angel decided not to continue useless persuading and left the other woman alone. ”If one of those kids comes here with their arms cut off, I’ll cut your arms off.”

Dominic didn’t wait for Trinity to get out of the infirmary, he expected her to be longer because of the knife wound. But he didn’t sleep until he heard her come back into the room, turning to wish her good night before he fell asleep. His body was practically begging him to, and thankfully, their trainers were letting them do a half day of training tomorrow so they could sleep later in the morning. Dominic wanted to train as much as he could, but he also needed rest to ensure his muscles would recover and become better than before.

It was strange waking up to light coming from the windows, and hours before their afternoon training. Dominic took this time to take a long, steaming hot shower and a long stretching session before making his way to the cafeteria for some food. His body was definitely sore from yesterday, but once he got into running and fired up his muscles, he’d be alright. The soreness was good, it reminded him of all they had achieved today as a team.

Sapphire came from one of the training rooms to the cafeteria instead of from their rooms. When Dominic gave her an inquisitive look, considering they weren’t supposed to be doing any training and she was already in her workout clothes, she just smiled back. ”Agent Orinwell and I have independent training sessions for my ability. I can work on my hacking and data manipulation skills without doing any physical activity.” Sapphire answers just from the question in his gaze. While her ability did give her some disadvantages, the advantages included getting this extra training with Agent Orinwell to improve her manipulation.

After the mission from yesterday, she wanted to clear her mind and focus on the success rather than all of her mistakes.”He said they have a new training style for us today but I couldn’t get him to say anything about it,” Sapphire adds, which surprised Dominic. It must be a strenuous type of training for them to do it on a half day. It may be the only activity for them today.

When the team got out on the field to start training, there was another set of trainees standing behind their trainers. Another team of four, and their demeanor was a little unsettling. They were all very confident, that was clear from just looking at them.

”This is Team Omega. They’ve been training on the other side of the facility for just as long as you have. Yesterday’s mission gave you a little on all the unique abilities and combat styles that are out there and may be used for malicious purposes. Today’s training will allow you to experience different abilities and combat styles. Team Omega is not aware of your abilities, nor you of theirs. You will battle each member of the opposing team with and without your abilities.”

”The first two trainees on the mat will be Goliath from Team Alpha, and Cyclone from Team Omega.”

A shaggy haired boy from the opposing team stepped onto the mat, shaking out his arms and staring down Josiah like he was a fly waiting to be swatted. It was clear that these were opponents not to underestimate, as Douglas wasn’t going to give him the chance to be underestimated. He had no clue what this other kid, Goliath, had in store, but he squared up and waited for the Team Alpha trainee to attack.

Josiah was not overly excited to go first, but at least he would be able to get his training over with. Transforming isn't easy and after the mission yesterday, his muscles and bones haven't quite recovered. If he finished these fights fast enough then he could rest. Josiah stepped onto the mat and looked to the Team Omega trainee. He couldn't help the smirk that came to his face right before he changed into his monstrous form. His now bright red eyes, now looking down on the trainee. A low growl escaped him and he moved towards him, attempting to grab him.

The transformation was unexpected, causing Douglas to be grabbed before he could dodge Josiah’s hands. The grip was fiercely strong and he knew he couldn’t get out without using his own ability. He wiggles his arms out and starts swinging them in circular motions until his entire body transforms into a minor cyclone, allowing him to slip out of Josiah’s hold and lands in a crouching position on the floor. Without a moment wasted, Douglas rushes forward and turns his arm into a cyclone aimed straight for Josiah’s chest.

Josiah wasn't sure what he was expecting, but he didn't not like the idea of moving air. He couldn't keep a grip on him that way. It was moving quickly towards his chest. He moved his hand to swat at the moving air, but missed. The omega trainee hit him right in the chest causing him to take several steps back to find his center. Josiah waited until he could see a physical form prior to trying to get hold of him this time. He needed to make sure he got hold of the arms so he couldn't become air anymore.

Douglas knew if the other trainee could get a hold of him he’d make sure that he couldn’t transform again. He had to be fast, and dodge Josiah’s moves. When dodging the next move, he swung himself away from Josiah’s hands and tried to get behind him, hoping to get an advantage if Josiah didn’t see him attacking. He rushed at Josiah’s back, jumping up and putting full force into his kick in the hopes of knocking Josiah flat on the floor.

Josiah's ears twitched and he adjusted his stance as he waited for a moment. He has gotten better at channeling his enhanced senses during this time. The fur on his back raised and he grabbed Douglas' leg and threw him down onto the mat, not really caring to be gentle.

Douglas hadn’t gotten through fast enough, and all his plans instantly changed as he was grabbed and thrown down to the floor. With the double transformation taking most of his energy, and the hard landing, he wasn’t in the position to keep fighting. With a glare sent in Josiah’s direction, he tapped the mat to signal his defeat. From Team Omega, Lady Toxic will take the place of Cyclone.” The girl from the Omega team helped Douglas off of the floor, and took his place on the mat with a cocky smile.

Ruby was told by her trainers that the poison would be too dangerous for friendly combat, but that didn’t mean she would lose to this beast. She cracked her knuckles and immediately went in and jumped up to swing her leg right towards Josiah’s face.

Josiah was expecting the girl to size him up, but she was as cocky as her last teammate. His goal was to end this fight possibly faster than the last one. He swatted at her leg, knocking her off to the left. Josiah stormed towards her with the intent to step on her to keep her pinned.

Ruby rolled as far away as she could to get away from Josiah, flipping herself back onto her feet and trying to think of her next move while a beast was storming right at her. Her instinct was to throw poison in his face, but she wasn’t allowed to do so. Her next best option was to try to race past him on the side, which didn’t work out for Douglas but she was betting she was just a little bit faster than her teammate and could make it through.

The girl was faster than her teammate, but it wasn't by much. Stepping on her wasn't an option. As she ran past, he figured knocking her off the mat was the next best thing. Josiah shifted and kicked at her side hoping to get her off the mat.

Ruby wasn’t expecting to be knocked off the mat, and the force of his kick made her stumble. She was close enough to the side that even a little stumble like this forced her off of the mat. She didn’t even realize the match was over until she stepped towards the mat and the trainer called her back. She started to grumble as she moved back to her team, sure that Douglas was going to tease her about how she didn’t win against Josiah either.

"From Team Omega, Copycat with take the place of Lady Toxic." Maggie stepped onto the mat, flipping back her hair. She looked at her oversized opponent and scoffed. She tied her hair up and made 4 other copies of herself. Maggie immediately ran and jumped on Josiah. All 5 of her were attacking different limbs.

Josiah raised an eyebrow at the team member that was significantly younger than everyone on the team though she was definitely just as cocky as the rest of them. As she was attacking him, she started throwing the various' Maggie's off of him but they just kept coming back.

Maggie continued attacking his limbs in various forms. Each of her bodies were using various combat styles. She was hoping to tire him out or at least annoy him to submission.

Josiah was getting angrier, but he was trying to control it. Going into a blind rage wasn't going to help. And he is tired of being tazed when that happens. Maggie was relatively small so he quickly grabbed each one of her bodies and squeezed them together.

Maggie groaned and tried to wiggle out of his hands, but she was stuck in between her other bodies. She combined with her other bodies and tapped out. Josiah dropped her and she scowled at him before returning to her team.

"From Team Omega, Blaze will take the place of Copycat." Cameron happily skipped onto the mat with a bright smile. He stretched a bit and then set his whole body on fire. From his last encounter, the facility made sure the mats were fireproof. He took his stance and started throwing small fireballs at the monster.

Josiah's eyes grew wide at the sight of a man on fire. Though less cocky than his team, still just as flashy and interesting as the rest of them. Josiah was dodging flames but he couldn't dodge small flames when he is oversized. Some of the fireballs touched him and it burned parts of his fur. He stormed after Josiah, hoping to grab hold.

Cameron was proud of himself to have done some visible damage, but it wasn't enough. He ducked out of the way of Josiah's hands and jumped up for a back kick. Cameron was aiming for his back, he didn't want to severely burn a fellow trainee.

Josiah reached to grab hold Cameron and immediately pulled his hands back. His hands were slightly burned and he let out a groan in pain. With his guard down, Cameron landed his kick knocking Josiah onto the ground. Before another attack could be made, Josiah tapped the ground in submission prior to returning to his human form, checking over his hands for the burns.

With Josiah finishing his rounds with only one loss, Sapphire had a lot to aspire to. She’d gotten better in the past month, but she didn’t know just how well she would fare against these other trainees. ”From Team Alpha, I.T. will take the place of Goliath.” Sapphire’s first opponent was the fire guy, Blaze. She needed to keep away from the fire as much as she could. She produced a smoke bomb from her pocket, which had been redesigned to produce more condensed smoke in a smaller area, and she was training her vision to fight better in the smoke. She traced what she thought was the path to Blaze, and once his shadow started to foam, she planned a hard punch which she was aiming to hit his chest.

Cameron lessened some of his flames considering his opponent wasn't as big or indestructable as the monster he had just faced. Cameron was trying to not hurt the other team members. He wasn't expecting the smoke. He tried to look around to see if he could find his opponent but she found him first. He stumbled backwards a bit at the punch, as it surprised him. Cameron started tossing out fireballs, hoping he would hit her.

Two of the fireballs sizzled her sleeves and she hisses, moving back farther into the smoke. She plans her steps carefully, hoping to attack him from another side. When she gets to where she projects would be on his side, she runs forward and swings low, trying to knock her opponent off of his feet. She had to end this fast, or the smoke would dissipate and he’d find her a whole lot easier.

Cameron couldn't see anything and his opponent was quickly getting the upper hand. He couldn't tell if any of his fireballs landed a hit. He didn't want to keep throwing them in fear of hurting anyone else. Feet swept at his legs and he quickly landed on his back. The air was knocked out of him and his flames went out. The smoke disappeared and he could see his opponent. He smiled brightly and tapped the ground in surrender.

Sapphire was surprised to see him smiling as he admitted defeat to her, and extended her hand to help him up from the ground. She was trying not to be giddy in front of him but winning her first match made her full of pride. She was getting better at battling her teammates, and it was fulfilling to see that skill transfer over to new enemies. ”From Team Omega, Copycat will take the place of Blaze.” As the girl stepped to the mat, she remembered this one as the girl who could make copies of herself. She didn’t want to use the smoke for every match, so she would have to rely on her physical combat skills for this one.

Maggie took her place on the mat ready to prove that she wasn't weak. Not being able to beat the monster was only a setback. She was going to put this girl in her place. Maggie made 3 copies of herself and surrounded Sapphire. The best way to defeat this girl was to subject her to several fights at once. All of them moved up to her, one with a left hook, another with a kick to the back, while the other two bodies were waiting to jump in.

Sapphire’s eyes went wide when she was suddenly surrounded. She had no way to tell which one was the real version of her opponent, especially with all of her attacks hitting. Sapphire immediately dropped to the ground, rolling herself as far back from her opponents as she could manage and hoping that the distance would give her an advantage. She would need to focus on the directions of all their hits to find the one direction she could dodge.

All of Maggie's copies faced Sapphire. They all took completely different combat stances. One of the benefits of having different bodies is being able to be completely different people. Two of them moved towards her, one aiming high and the other aiming low. The other two stood behind to repeat the process.

Sapphire was being bombarded without a chance to formulate a plan or fight back properly. By the time she could attack one, another was coming for her at a different spot and she wasn’t able to keep up. She finally backed up enough to get to the edge of the mat, and voluntarily walked off to stop all of the attacks coming her way and held her hands up in surrender. As much as she wanted to tear that cocky smirk off that girl’s face, she didn’t have the intent to actually hurt her.

”From Team Omega, Lady Toxic will take the place of Copycat.” Truthfully, Sapphire had been waiting for this matchup. She couldn’t tell what the girl’s ability was from watching a battle, so she wanted to experience it for herself

Ruby could tell just from the two matches that this girl was a thinker. She had a cute little focused look on her face when she was making a plan. And Ruby planned to take advantage of that. ”I didn’t know they let cute girls become heroes,” Ruby calls out from her side of the mat, catching Sapphire off guard. She grins at the blush on her opponents face, and charges straight for her. She’s able to tackle Sapphire to the ground, grabbing for her wrists when Sapphire hooks a leg over and flips the two so that Ruby was the one on the ground.

Sapphire was pushed off of Ruby quickly, and stumbled back upright as her opponent picked herself up off of the ground. She couldn’t let this- very pretty -enemy of hers cloud her focus. ”This isn’t a fair simulation. Villains don’t flirt with the heroes they’re fighting,” Sapphire barks, rushing forward and punching Ruby in the stomach. Ruby steps back a few steps like she’s badly hurt, then rolls forward and kicks at Sapphire’s feet, knocking her onto her back again. She took no time pinning Sapphire this time, sitting firmly on top of her and locking both wrists against the mat with a victorious grin. ”But I still won, didn’t I? Ruby replies, letting Sapphire go and moving back to her team.

Sapphire didn’t want to lose her last battle, so as the next opponent was called to the mat, she grabbed her smoke bombs again. From Team Omega, Cyclone will take the place of Lady Toxic.” She wasn’t sure if the smoke would work with his ability but she started the battle with an immediate smoke bomb and a low kick aimed for Douglas’ legs to knock him off of his feet. Before she could reach him to kick, he’d started a cyclone and the impact threw her away from him, as well as dissipating the smoke.

She landed on her back but quickly pulled herself off of the ground, throwing a few smoke bombs out of desperation. The smoke became too thick for her to adequately estimate his position, but she was quick to attack again. This time she did manage to land a punch on his forearm. It wasn’t enough, he was blowing her back with an even stronger cyclone and she hit the wall with a loud smack. Falling to her bottom, she was trying to catch her breath but failing, throwing another smoke bomb just as the second set of bombs dissipated.

Once she was back on her feet, Douglas was breathing hard as he tried to transform for a third time. She rushed at him, hoping to tackle him, but he had just enough strength and energy to grab her and throw her out of his way. She stumbled and rolled off of the mat, ending her final match with another failure.

Rogue (v)
behaving in ways that are surprising, often harmful

Rogue from Team Alpha will face Lady Toxic from Team Omega.” Trinity wasn’t extremely excited about facing the opponents of Team Omega. Their abilities were more obvious than the rest of her team. However, she wasn’t sure about Lady Toxic’s abilities. They must have been too dangerous or she would have showcased them. That made Trinity worry. Her opponent would have to make up from not being able to use her ability with excellent combat. Trinity took her spot on the mat, pulling out her retractable staff. She decided against putting a weapon state on it. Her opponent was no bigger than she. Adding extra weight to the staff would be overkill. She took a defensive stance and waited patiently.

Ruby could sense her opponent wasn’t going to attack first, but she gave herself a moment to scan the Alpha girl. She would target the staff, she was sure she could get the advantage if the girl didn’t use that weapon. She cracked her neck, then immediately sprints toward Trinity. With a grin, she turned around and flipped to kick both of her legs at Trinity’s chest.

Trinity made sure she was firm in her stance and tried to anticipate Ruby's move. With two feet coming at her, she quickly stepped off to the right and used her staff to push Ruby off to the left, trying to put the distance back between them.

Ruby landed onto her feet, though farther than she wanted to be. Her eyes set into a confident glare as she pulled herself up completely and didn’t give Trinity time to relax. She rushed forward again, aiming several punches to Trinity’s stomach in the hopes of knocking her over completely.

Trinity took the defensive position again waiting for the second attack which happened quickly. She managed to block some of the punches but the last two made it. Trinity stumbled back but recovered. She slid her hands to the middle of the staff and pulled apart her staff to have each half of the staff in each hand. She shifted to the attack position and lunged at Ruby. She swung at Ruby's head with one half while using the second half to defend any counters.

Ruby was planning on catching Trinity on her stumble but she recovered quicker than Ruby had anticipated. She readied herself for the next attack instead, crouching down to miss Trinity’s swing and rushing forward to try and headbutt her in the stomach. Looking for an opening to tackle Trinity.

Trinity placed a heavy state on her staff, she needed extra help to take down her opponent. She jumped back to avoid the headbutt and aimed half of her staff to hit Ruby on the back, hoping the adjusted weight of the staff was enough to take her down.

Ruby groaned as she felt the staff hit her back, it was heavy and knocked her flat onto her stomach. She was struggling to get back on her feet, and as she pants, she quickly grabs at Trinity’s ankle and uses as much strength as she can to yank her off of her feet.

Trinity was making her moves to end this battle, but she was knocked off her feet. She landed hard on her back, knocking the wind out of her. She tapped the ground to show surrender as she was struggling to get air back in.

Ruby has a victorious smirk as she extends her hand out to help her opponent off the floor. She returns to her team feeling a lot better with two victories under her belt against the other team. ”From Team Omega; Cyclone will replace Lady Toxic on the mat.” Cyclone quickly replaced his teammate on the mat, eager to get this battle finished quickly. He immediately transformed his entire body into a cyclone, spinning towards Trinity with dangerous speed.

Trinity allowed the other teammate to help her up and she put her two halves of her staff back together. Her next opponent did not hesitate to get started. She stabbed her staff into the mat and placed the weapon state stiff on it so she could hang onto it. The winds were dangerously fast and she was just trying not to be blown off the mat. She kept an eye out for any opening he might give her.

He got as close as he could, but that staff was keeping his opponent in her place. He morphed back into his non-gaseous form and didn’t take a moment of recovery before attacking again. Douglas made a swing for her staff, hoping to knock her defenses away and make it easier to attack.

The winds stopped and Trinity looked to see that he was back in a solid state. She removed her staff from the ground and jumped back. Trinity ran and jumped at Douglas, using her staff to push off the ground for momentum as she aimed for his chest.

Douglas was unable to hit the staff and stumbled back just in time to miss her attack. He barely caught his footing and was sent back a few feet by trying to dodge. He gritted his teeth, launching himself at Trinity and turning his arm into a cyclone, aiming for her staff again with the winds from his arm.

Trinity landed on the ground and tried to keep a tight grip on her staff that Douglas was still aiming for. Though she used it to her advantage. She placed the state heavy on the staff so that it weighed more to her opponent and she completely let go of the staff allowing it to fly towards him. Trinity ran after him, kicking the staff further towards him.

Douglas wasn’t expecting the staff to be practically thrown towards him, and as soon as it hit his chest it made him topple to the ground. It was much heavier than he was anticipating and that threw him off his balance. He could barely shove it off of him, trying to stand up before Trinity could pin him.

Trinity couldn't rest now. Her opponent was down and her weapon out of her hand. She needed to end this or she was sure he would get up and through everything he had at her. The staff rolled off him, but she already had a foot on his chest pushing him firmly onto the ground. Trinity unholstered on of her guns and aimed it at him. Her gun wasn't loaded but she just wanted him to know that this was over.

Douglas was the most surprised at the guns aimed at him, rather than the fact that this battle was over and he lost. He tapped on the mat, signaling his defeat, then waited for her to let him up so he can grumpily exit the mat.

Trinity put her gun back where it belonged and offered a hand to Douglas. She had to remember to celebrate that battle. But she still had two more people that she needed to get through. She picked up her staff and took her spot on the other end of the mat. ”Copycat from Team Omega will take the place of Cyclone.”

Maggie walked up to the mat a confident smile on her face. She was determined not to let this girl show her up like she had shown up Douglas. She was just a glorified weapon user. Maggie glared at her opponent and made three others of herself. All four of her went on the attack. Taking the same approach they used with Sapphire. Two would attack while the other two would move in once the first two made their moves.

Trinity hadn’t exactly figured out how to combat against multiple people fighting her at once, but she needed to figure it out quick. She could only block one at a time. A hit kept landing. One in her stomach, a kick on her chest, a punch to the face, and another swept at her feet. Trinity fell onto her back, but pushed into a back roll to stand back up.

Maggie added another copy of herself to the battle making a total five. They moved to all surround Trinity, each of them with the same devious smile. Then they began all attacking Trinity at once, trying to make sure that she never had an opening.

Trinity winced in pain as some of the hits landed, but she stood her ground to wait for openings. She started with the one behind her and kicked her off the mat. She used her staff to block a punch and jabbed the staff into her chest, making the Maggie copy fall onto her back. Trinity ducked and the two of the Maggies ended up hitting each other. Trinity stood before what she was hoping was the original Maggie and swung the staff at her, moving to the offensive.

Maggie used her hand to block one of the hits, but winced in pain as the staff was heavier than she had anticipated. As Trinity was moving towards her attack after attack, she couldn’t focus on her other copies. They faded away and it was just her on the mat.

Trinity was ready to end this battle. She turned and back kicked Maggie in the chest, sending her onto the ground. She moved over her and held the end of the staff on her to pin her down. She didn’t let up until Maggie tapped the mat in surrender. Trinity offered a hand to her opponent.

Maggie ignored the hand and just pushed herself off the ground. With a flip of her hair, she stormed off the mat. ”From Team Omega, Blaze with take the place of Copycat.” Cameron walked on to the mat with a bright smile on his face. He looked to his opponent and winked, prior to only setting his hands on fire.

Trinity's eyes went wide and she blushed a bit. She pushed some hair behind her ear and then cleared her throat. She took a defensive stance against her slightly cute opponent. She hadn’t been paying much attention to his face up until this moment. She didn’t want to hurt him.

Cameron was going to drag this fight out for a while, prior to claiming victory. He was curious to see how long she could keep up and he wanted to keep looking at her a bit longer. Smile still plastered on his face, he ran Trinity throwing the first punch.

Trinity used the staff to block his punch and kicked Cameron back. She quickly dropped the staff onto the ground and glanced at her hands. She hadn’t taken into account that metal conducts heat too well. She kicked the staff off to the side and held up her fists. She was gonna have to fight without her ability.

Cameron stumbled backwards a bit at the kick, but was able to recover with little difficulty. He stood at the end of the mat and tossed a few fireballs in her direction prior to moving towards her again.

Trinity dodged most of the fireballs, but one grazed her arm. She quickly patted out the flame and jumped back as Cameron attempted a kick of his own. She ducked under his arms and swept a leg at his feet.

Cameron was working on a second punch, but didn’t see her leg. He tripped on it and fell onto his back. The wind was knocked out of him, but with a deep breath he was able to breathe easy. He lingered on the mat, ready to end the fight in a fun way.

Trinity was shocked he was even still on the floor. She picked up her cool staff and held the end of it onto his chest. It was still heavy, so she was hoping he wouldn’t try to get up. What she wasn’t expecting was for Cameron to pull her down onto the ground with him once. She crashed onto him and Cameron rolled them over so that she was pinned. Trinity could not help the blush that formed on her face.

Cameron laughed a bit at his pinned opponent. ”What’s your name?” ”T-trinity…” He put on his flirtatious smile. ”I’m Cameron.” Trinity shut her eyes tight and turned her head away from him. ”I-I surrender!” She managed to get out. Cameron let her up and Trinity scurried off to rejoin the rest of her team, the blush still clear on her face.

Dominic didn’t like the last boy that fought Trinity. He didn’t like how much he smiled and especially how friendly he was with Trinity. He didn’t know why but just watching him get close with Trinity made his blood boil. ”For the last round of matches, Prodigy will take the place of Rogue for team Alpha. The first opponent will be Cyclone.” Dominic was determined to beat every one of these opponents and prove he was the strongest one of either team. He’d studied this Cyclone character and now that they were in battle, he could read his movements as they were coming to him.

Doug wanted to see what this guy could do. He’d only been able to beat one of his opponents at this point and it was making him pretty upset. He waited for Dominic to make the first move, defiantly standing on the other side of the mat.

Dominic was going to wait for Doug’s move but it was clear he wasn’t going to move before Dominic. He decided then to dash forward, his eyes moving all over Doug’s body to see what he would throw at him. If he could stop Doug from creating the cyclones in the first place, he’d have this battle in the bag. He decided to aim several punches and a final kick to Doug’s chest as his first move.

He’d been watching Dominic carefully and dodged both of his punches, but the kick hit him just enough in the chest that he stumbled back slightly. Now it was time for his attack and he was ready to run Dominic off of the mat. He started spinning and turned his entire body to a cyclone, causing his opponent to keep firmly to his spot or risk being blown out.

Dominic crossed his arms and braced himself for the harsh winds, digging his feet into the ground. There was no way he was getting closer to Doug, but he also was staying in his spot and wasn’t moving off of the mat. He had to act fast once the winds died down and he could attack again. He couldn’t read Doug’s body when he was a cyclone, but he would base his next attack on Doug’s body language.

As soon as Doug was back into his normal form, Dominic went in for the attack and flipped over Doug completely. His arms wrapped tightly around Doug from behind and pulled them both to the ground. Doug landing on top of him was a lot heavier than he expected, but it was enough for Dominic to quickly roll over and pin Doug to the floor.

”From Team Omega, Lady Toxic will take the place of Cyclone.” Doug glared as he backed off the mat with only one match won. He knew his trainers would not be pleased with that. Ruby had a victorious look on her face as she passed her teammate, she had two wins so far and she was sure she could beat him. She hardly waited for the match to start before she was charging at him.

Dominic took a quick step to the side and missed her attack completely, watching her stumble and then turn back to him. ”What’s your ability?” He asks simply, causing Ruby to stop in her tracks and stare at him. It gave him a split second advantage to rush forward and grab her wrist, pulling her so he was twisting her arm behind her back.

Ruby struggled against his grip, kicking behind her but being unable to break free. She was tempted to use her ability, hell she’d been tempted in all her battles, but she wasn’t going to hurt another hero, especially in training. She huffed and stomped down hard on his foot, causing him to let her go and cuss at the pain. ”Poison. Even in my spit,” Ruby answers and spits right in front of his feet, the poison sizzling against the mat but it was made to stand against abilities like hers. Then grins at Dominic.

Dominic’ eyebrows raise at the little puddle in front of him, careful to avoid it as he goes in for another attack. He rushed forward and shoved her back several times, getting her closer to the edge of the mat with every push. Ruby manages to block the third shove from Dominic, grabbing both of his wrists and attempting to throw him behind her and out of the mat.

Dominic pulls himself out of her grasp and stumbles to the side of Ruby, barely keeping on his feet. He narrows his eyes, knowing he’ll have to keep a careful eye on her movements if he wants to win. He straightens up and watches her, patiently awaiting for her to attack again.

Ruby had a confident, practically victorious, grin painted on her face as she rushed at him. She wraps around his waist to tackle him to the ground, but Dominic stays on his feet and yanks himself out of Ruby’s grip, stepping back far enough to cause his opponent to slip onto the floor. He rushed forward and pinned her to the ground, not giving her a second chance to attack.

”From Team Omega, Copycat will take the place of Lady Toxic.” Maggie walked out onto the mat, not happy with the teammate she was now having to face. Both Ruby and Douglas lost to him. She wasn’t about to go down so easy. She only had one win under her belt and she needed this win to please their handler. The confident look she had was no longer on her face, but the confidence still radiated from her. ”I thought this was supposed to be an ability battle..” Calling out the fact that his ability isn’t as obvious as she made four other copies of herself.

Dominic’s eyes narrowed at her assumption that he wasn’t using his abilities. That was his advantage in this battle, she didn’t understand his ability. The disadvantage was he couldn’t read the body language of all of her copies. He had to focus on one for it to really work, but he had to focus on all of them to avoid losing outright. He stepped back as far as he could, getting himself enough space to build speed as he rushed for one of the copies closest to the outside to attack. He aimed his leg for this copy’s head, trying to remain aware of the rest of the copies and Maggie herself.

Maggie could work with someone that utilized combat for battle. Combat was her specialty considering she needed to know enough of it for each of her copies to use different moves. Dom ran towards one of the copies and the rest of them immediately began to surround him. One of the copies took a hit to the head, but two of them quickly came up one aiming for an uppercut while the other kicked at his legs. If she could get into the rhythm of having two, maybe even three attacking at once she might be able to overwhelm him.

Dominic took the uppercut so that he could quickly block the kick that would have knocked him off his feet. The quickness of her moves makes him breathless, but he tries to back out as much as he can, giving himself a better view of all of the copies and getting out of range of either him or Maggie attacking. He had to figure out moves that would work for multiple opponents, he was racking his brain for options. He moved back in to attack, crouching low and swinging his leg toward as many of the copies’ legs as he could manage.

The benefit to having multiple copies is being able to sacrifice them while Maggie is fine. She would have to use that method in this case. Dominic was quicker to adjust as needed to her movements. Though not nearly quick enough. Two of the copies went down, but two others came in with attempting to punch either side of his face, while Maggie herself was aiming a kick to his chest.

Dominic pushes himself forward so that the punches from the copies end up aimed at each other instead of his face, but that makes him lean into Maggie’s kick to his chest and knocks him back. He stumbles onto the ground, not completely on his back but barely sitting upright. He coughs out a breath, struggling to pick himself up. Once he does, he rushes forward and aims to tackle the Maggie that just kicked him, hoping he was right in his two assumptions that this was the real Maggie and that he was strong enough to take her down.

As two copies were down, another two were recovered and ready to fight once again. Maggie took a couple steps back as Dominic was clearly rushing at her. He was trying to take her down, but she wasn't going to let him get the chance. Two of her copies rushed at Dominic's side and used their combined force and weight to shove him off course. If he happened to tumble off the mat, she would happily claim that victory.

Dominic was so focused on putting all of his strength into tackling Maggie that the full force of the two copies shoving him knocks him completely off of his feet and he tumbles right off of the mat. He was standing up to rush back in when he saw he’d crossed the barrier and just folded his arms as he waited for his final opponent. ”From Team Omega, Blaze will take the place of Copycat.”

Maggie's copies disappeared and she walked off the mat, confident smile intact. Cameron stepped onto the mat, the smile from the beginning still on his face. He waited for his opponent to take his place on the mat. His hands were the only thing one fire, for the time being. He started with an offensive attack, tossing out several fireballs towards his opponent.

This was the battle he was waiting for. He wanted to wipe that smile off Cameron’s face. He quickly dodged the fireballs, one barely missing his face and lightly scraping against his cheek, and started running towards Cameron. He tries to punch Cameron several times in the chest and stomach.

Cameron managed to dodge the punches to his chest but he wasn't fast enough to dodge the one to his stomach. He took a few steps back and moved the fire up his arms more, but dialed back the flames. He took two steps forward replicating the two punches, aiming for his chest and stomach, but adding in a kick to the stomach to have him back up and force him into the defensive position.

Dominic was watching much more carefully now that he only had one copy of his opponent to focus on. He caught Cameron’s punches but realized he was going to kick too late. He forces himself to stop once he’s back a few feet, and rushes forward, ignoring the slight burning sensation on his palms and jumping up to kick Cameron in the chest with as much force as he can put into it.

His opponent wasn't going to let up with the offensive attack. But Cameron couldn't lose this one. He had two wins under his belt and now a pretty lady to impress. Dominic was running at him so fast that he was barely able to dodge the kick, stumbling off to the side but remaining on the mat. While he had to distance, he threw out more fireballs hoping to keep him at a distance.

Dominic let the fireballs hit his sleeves but kept running, knowing his opponent would have the advantage if he continued with his long range attacks. He was breathing hard but he refused to lose, especially to this guy. He rushes Cameron again and shoves his chest as hard as he can, trying to get him completely off of the mat or on the ground so he could pin him.

Cameron couldn't get Dominic to stop running at him and he didn't have anywhere to go. He braced for impact but the sheer force on his chest hand him laying flat on his back with the wind knocked out of him. The flames on his arms died out and before he could even get back up, Dom had him pinned.

Dominic had a smirk on his face as he pulled off of Cameron and returned to his team. He was most proud of the last win, knowing he could beat someone with a fire ability. This Team Omega was a lot different than their team, and would be an added challenge to their training when the other team was involved. Dominic was just glad he could prove himself as a formidable fighter.

Another month of training had gone by for Team Alpha. Their individual skills have increased tremendously and their teamwork has only gotten better. It was an unspoken rule that Trainee I.T. was the leader of the team. Besides being able to make everyone on the team unique gadgets to enhance their own abilities, she has an uncanny ability to make plans that go very well. Her quick thinking has not only proven to be helpful during missions, but they sneak out of the facility. The team’s travel restrictions haven’t been lifted quite yet. They were praised for the success of their first mission, but they were too new to be completely trusted to leave the facility. That didn’t stop the team from getting breaths of fresh air. Each time they left, security conveniently increased, but it made sneaking out more fun each time.

Trinity has not only been spending time being a better hero, she has been reunited with her father. She hasn’t really told anyone yet since she is just trying to get to building somewhat of a relationship with him. Trinity has told her mom who wasn’t as upset about it as she thought she would be. Trinity didn’t know anything about her dad since he was never around, but he must want to be part of her life now. Trinity hasn’t mentioned anything about the hero service. Just about her life at home with her mom and going to school. Another relationship that she has been working on is a better one with a roommate. Trinity hasn’t officially acknowledged how she feels about him, she does feel close to him. And when he is willing to talk to her, they have a good time. It is only a bit of struggle to treat him as a teammate when they have to spare or train. She tends to blush a lot more and she has been working on getting that under control.

Josiah has actually started to enjoy his time at Hero Training. He was sure that it was going to be a waste of time and he would be able to convince his parents to pull him out. But not only has he made friends he has started to think of like an extension of his family, he has gotten a better handle of his powers. Not just of his beast. Also of his enhanced nature in human form. He is faster, stronger, and can use his senses even better. Josiah would never admit this out loud, but he is actually glad he came. It has helped him feel better about the abilities he was “gifted” with. He has been updating his siblings about his progress and life in the prison facility and life as a hero. And like he promised, he updated his mother as well. Though for her, he is less enthusiastic about how happy he is. On top of everything, he has actually enjoyed cleaning the cafeteria at the end of the night. It gives him peace of mind and he can steal snacks for his team, which is the main reason why he even agrees to do it once a week.

”Team Alpha. Please report to the debriefing room for your next mission.”The sound announced on the speaker and echoed through the facility. Another mission. It felt so soon. That didn’t stop the team from gathering the debriefing room ready to hear what they were being trusted to do. You are being charged with a covert mission. We have reason to believe that there are a group of villains selling military grade weapons as well as human weapons to others. We have only been hearing rumors through the grapevine, but we recently received confirmation of a party they are hosting. Your only mission is to infiltrate the party, find the hosts office, and copy the files onto this flash drive.” Agent Angel set the flash drive down in front of Sapphire. ”The party is tonight. It is a black tie event, so dress accordingly. Agent Gupta will help with attire if necessary. Agent Malillos will provide the schematics and layouts as well as the party invitations. Agent Orinwell will familiarize you all with your new devices. Questions? No. Dismissed.”

Another month had passed, this one felt much shorter to Sapphire than the last. She was really starting to find her place in the hero service. She still called her dad to talk with him about her insecurities, but the individual sessions she continued to have with Agent Orinwell were the most uplifting in her confidence. She was becoming a pivotal member of the team, it seemed that even her team members looked to her for planning and strategy. Plus, she enjoyed working with her team members on new gadgets that would improve their skill in battle especially. There was a sense of satisfaction watching her team members test a gadget she built with her own hands.

And there was the fact that she was becoming a real ace when it came to sneaking out. It was a challenge to her, a new maze with more restrictions every time. So far, they hadn’t been caught yet, and she’d even managed to sneak into Team Omega’s side of the facility. Though that… that was more than a challenge. Coincidentally, one of Team omega’s members had a room to herself because the roommate chose to be negated after the first day simulation. And that Omega member was the same one that flirted with Sapphire during their first matches, it didn’t take long for Sapphire to flirt back. She was fostering a full blown crush on Ruby, hiding it behind playful flirting and talking about their abilities together.

Dominic was not having as much fun when it came to his feelings for Trinity. He’d always been so focused on training and being a hero that he’d never really had a crush on anyone. He brushed off girls who ever admitted feelings for him, except one who used him to meet his famous siblings. He’d sworn off relationships moving forward, but his roommate wasn’t someone he could brush off. Not only were they living together, but her personality was magnetic to him. He genuinely enjoyed training with her and working on combat skills or weaponry, and he could open up more and be more talkative with her. He felt more comfortable around her than the rest of the team, though his relationships with Sapphire and Josiah had also improved over the past month.

Another mission was what Dominic was itching for. It would get his mind off of his complicated relationship with Trinity, and he’d be able to prove himself as a hero to the public once more. He was visibly confident as he made his way to the control room, which quickly went away as they were briefed. A covert mission, in event attire. No one would have a clue that they were heroes, and if they did, well, the outcome wouldn’t be good for any of them.

This was exactly the kind of mission Sapphire was waiting for. She was practically gushing to Agent Gupta as they found a dress for her, and she familiarized herself with the layouts and information that Agent Malillos was providing. She needed to know her own details as well as the others in case she had to manipulate it. She was especially excited as they went over weapons, trying not to talk over Agent Orinwell when it came to the gadgets she had built herself. Sapphire knew she had to calm down eventually, but she had the entire travel time to get into the right mind space. For now, she was just happy her ability was going to be the forefront of a mission. And as the unspoken leader, she would keep everyone safe and in line so there wouldn’t be any unnecessary fighting or identity revealing at the party.

Once everyone was in their attire and ready to travel, they were on their way to the party. Sapphire had managed to find the perfect long dress in the color of her namesake, and Dominic had chosen an all black suit to blend in more at the party. Sapphire had gadgets hidden wherever she could, just in case things get ugly. ”Alright, we should get a layout of this place before starting, familiarize ourselves with the event space. I’ll need eyes on the host when I can infiltrate his office. We don’t have much information on his security detail, so we’ll have to scout that out while we’re there. We won’t take longer than we need to, we can get out once I’ve gotten intel from the office. Clear?”

Josiah had been looking forward to another mission. He was getting antsy being inside the facility walls. And there were only so many times the team could sneak out before their higher ups would get suspicious. This mission came just on time. However, he wasn’t particularly happy about the kind of mission that they had to do. Stealth wasn’t exactly his forte. His ability doesn't exactly allow him to blend in. He would have to rely on his enhanced ability and combat skills in order to make it through. At this moment in time he was just grateful that he was able to leave the building. On top of that, it was a party. Food was a sure way to get him to do just about anything. Agent Gupta had picked out a burgundy suit for him with a bowtie to match. Josiah was impressed with himself. He doesn’t usually dress up. The nicest thing he has worn was all black jeans and a polo for picture day when he was still in school. This suit, however, was rather flattering.

Trinity was indifferent regarding the stealth mission. She was looking forward to showing off her improved trainee skills and completing another mission. But stealth wasn’t something they had really been practicing. At least, not officially. Trinity also isn’t a big fan of dressing up. Tactically, it doesn’t help her in combat. She also never had anywhere to go that required anything more than jeans and a t-shirt. Her and Agent Gupta spent more time than Trinity would like to admit about what she was supposed to look like. The dress was a dark purple with a slit up the left leg for easy access to weapons. Trinity wanted to sneak jeans under the dress, but she was convinced otherwise. Trinity even managed to slip three throwing knives and a small handgun on her inner left thigh.

Josiah looked at the group with a smile on his face. ”We clean up good.” He stated, impressed with how nice the team looked. He was so used to everyone in workout or training gear. Even on their last mission, they were hero suits. This was a nice change of pace and he was less bothered by having to attend a party for a mission. Sapphire was going over the vague details of the plans, which would be more detailed once they get a better feel for security. ”Aye aye captain.”

Trinity looked at the map, taking a moment to see where the general party was going to be. It was centrally located in the house, right past the main front doors. If they were lucky, the host office wouldn’t be far away. ”We should expect high levels of security. These are criminal traders. Anything outside of this general ballroom would reveal their criminal activity. We are going to need a distraction once we figure out which of these exits have the most security detail.” They were going to have to take their time with this one. One slip up and it would be the party vs them.

The host had clearly put a lot of money into the ballroom for the party. There were an abundance or waiters handing out flutes of champagne to the guests, and the acoustics of the room made it difficult to discern any specifics from the conversations happening all around the room. Sapphire could only listen in to one conversation at a time, trying to take in as much information as she could before trying to get the files from the host. The host wasn’t the only criminal in the room, and they could prove it.

”Didn’t know she started hiring kids,” Sapphire was startled by a male voice, turning to find one of the guests questioning her. She smiles warmly, putting on the persona their handlers had made for her. ”Sorry, I work for Dr. Havana. He wanted his assistant on the list. I’m Samantha,” Sapphire offers this information smoothly, though she wasn’t looking to get into a conversation with this guy. She needed to get eyes on the security outside and preferably sooner than later. Just knowing she was in the midst of criminals and enemies had her on edge.

And it definitely didn’t help that this enemy took her hostage in small talk. He probed her for more information on the doctor she supposedly worked for, wanting to start some business partnership for the medical equipment. Sapphire played along, only because she had to, but looked for her team to make sure they were getting things done.

Dominic had kept to the outer barrier of the party, keeping an eye on the doors. They were allowing access into the bathrooms just outside the door, which Dominic used to get a view of the host’s office. It was clearly heavily guarded compared to the rest of the party, two guards stationed up against the door while two guards took rounds up and down the hallway. It would take quite a distraction to get all of those guards away and allow for Sapphire to slip in.

Once he slipped back into the party, he relayed this information to the team, keeping a flute of champagne by his mouth to hide his words. ”Going to the bathroom is the easiest way to get out of the party. But there’s two guards at her door and two doing rotations. We’re going to need a big distraction to get all four guards off of the door so Sapphire can get in and out of the room with the information.” He and Sapphire catch eyes from across the room, allowing her to slip from the unending conversation with another party guest. They slipped past each other, long enough for him to transfer her the usb that she couldn’t carry in her dress.

Sapphire positioned herself close to the exit under the guise of grabbing a glass of champagne. Just one sip calmed her nerves, but she couldn’t risk more, especially when she had to run logistics on this operation. This all depended on how fast she could get run and out of that room. And how good of a distraction they could make. ”Well team? Does anyone want to be bait for me?”

The ballroom was grand. The host was trying to impress his guest. There were waiters slipping between the crowds with bottomless glasses of champagne. Voices bounced off the walls of the room. It was hard to hear out the different voices and pick up on the various conversations. All of the guests were dressed in silk and diamonds. It was hard to tell that they were standing in a room full of criminals, but they all needed to be on their guard.

The team split up. They would be able to cover more ground that way. Trinity made her way to the middle of the floor. She was keeping an eye out for anyone that could possibly be close to the host. Everyone was mingling and Trinity made sure to keep a glass of champagne in her hand at all times. She wasn’t a drinker, but the waiters avoided her since they didn’t feel the need to hand her a refill. Everyone spotted the door that was heavily guarded. It was clear that it had to be the office. They needed a distraction. Something to draw the security away from the edges of the ballroom.

Josiah was over by the food table making small talk with many of the people that were wandering over to him. He had had about three full glasses of champagne, but it hadn’t even touched him. With his monster half, eating and drinking was a bottomless pit. Alcohol never really touched him and he was never really full, but he enjoyed the taste. As soon as he heard that they needed a distraction, a smile came to his face. ”Thought you would never ask.” He did not mind being the center of attention. If only for a moment. He needed to think quickly though. Something big enough to have security involvement, but not big enough to get thrown out. ”Trinity sweetie, I need you to flirt with the man to your right. I will be there in a second.” Josiah made sure to down another glass of champagne as the waiter walked next to him.

Trinity was not happy to be part of the distraction. Her heart was racing, but it was for the mission. She sipped from her glass and casually took a step to the left, stumbling into the man that Josiah told her to flirt with. ”Oh..I’m sorry. I wasn’t paying attention.” She gave him a soft smile, pushing some stray strands of hair behind her ear. The man, who had quickly introduced himself as Walker, smiled back happily. Then like magic the two of them were talking. Trinity was giggling and would lightly tap his arm to show that she was interested. She made sure to make eye contact as she smiled. Trinity did not know how much longer she could keep this up and as if he read her mind, Josiah arrived.

”JULIE!” Josiah slurred the words a bit and stumbled a bit to the right. He made sure to make sure that he looked angry at Trinity, since Trinity was Julie. ”Who the hell is this?! Are you flirting with another man again!” Josiah took hold of Trinity’s upper arm and pulled her closer to him. She wasn’t expecting it so she ended up spilling the champagne onto the ground. ”I’m not sure what's going on, but you are obviously making her uncomfortable, let her go.” Josiah glared at the man before him. ”How about you back off.” His eyes flashed red. As if on cue, security was slowly making their way to the inner circle. ”I’m not gonna ask you again.” The man took a step up towards them. Josiah needed to just make him mad enough to use a power and then they were set. He reached out and pushed the man back with some force. It seemed to work. Walker’s wings jumped out of his back and they were about a 10 foot wingspan. ”You messed up now.” Before Walker could even advance, several security guards took hold of him.

Besides being genuinely uncomfortable the entire time, Trinity was shocked that it even worked. Guards that were on the perimeter moved their way towards Walker, trying to restrain his wings and him. The office door was left unguarded. And just to make sure that security lingered around a bit longer, Trinity dramatically pulled her arm from Josiah’s hand. ”I’m done with you!” It was obvious by Josiah’s face that he wasn’t expecting it, but was going with it. ”Done with me! You can’t be done with me!” Trinity grabbed a glass from a waiter passing by and tossed the drink in his face. Josiah took a step to advance towards her and two more security guards popped up next to them. ”Is there going to be a problem?” Josiah glared and crossed his arms. ”Nope.” With that, Josiah turned to walk into the bathroom while Trinity staye behind with the security to amp up the role as a damsel in distress.

Dominic didn’t know what Josiah was planning but he didn’t want Trinity flirting with anyone. He hid himself as best as he could to talk on the comm again. ”Are you sure that’s a good idea? We only need one person for the distract-“ ”Shut up Dom, the bigger the distraction, the more time I get. Play it up, Trin.” Sapphire cuts Dominic off, watching the scene play out to give herself the best timing to get into the office. Plus, it was interesting to watch Trinity flirt with the random party guest, especially seeing Dominic’s reaction. She was starting to piece together that the two of them had more than just platonic feelings for each other, and they were the only ones that couldn’t see it.

Dominic wasn’t enjoying the distraction at all. She was really good at it and more than anything, he wanted to be in that man’s place. Until Josiah came up to him. He was caught off guard just as much as the poor stranger who was caught up in their distraction. Dom saw Sapphire slip into the hallway out of the corner of his eye, which meant the distraction was working.

Sapphire slipped into the host’s office as soon as the security guards were off the door, shutting the door softly behind her. The office was just as spacious as she expected from the party room outside, and she slipped over to his computer to plug the flash drive in. She took all the files she could, quickly scanning over the information as it was sent to the drive. From what she could glean off of the documents, there was a lot of useful information that their handlers could use.

”Better back off now that the wings are out,” Dominic warns through the comm, meaning Sapphire didn’t have much time left. She was waiting for the flash drive to finish downloading, which felt like an eternity with her time to exit quickly approaching. ”Okay I got the intel, I just need- oh shit-“ Sapphire unplugs the flash drive as the door knob starts to turn. She ducks under the desk, hitting her head and clamping a hand over her mouth to muffle the groan as voices started to fill the small room.

Her heart was beating so fast she could hardly concentrate on their words. ”What makes you think that we could successfully obtain anyone from the Hero Service? I’ve heard you’re good but that’s not possible.” Sapphire froze even more, listening in as much as she could. The host was definitely in the room, he was the one speaking. But she couldn’t tell who else was there until they spoke. ”I didn’t come to your party to discuss business. There’s plenty of time for that tomorrow. Come on, enjoy your party.” A female voice spoke up, one that almost sounded familiar to Sapphire. Like she’d heard this woman before. It seemed as if she persuaded the host to leave, as suddenly Sapphire was alone in the room again.

Sapphire tapped on her comm, ”Um… bad news. I’m still in the office.” Sapphire announces to the team, pulling herself out from under the desk and trying not to freak out. All they needed was another distraction and they could get out. ”It doesn’t matter if we get thrown out this time, as long as they don’t know we’re agents. Just rowdy guests, alright?” Sapphire adds, pacing around the room.

Dominic looked towards the hallway, seeing the guards back on the door as the host and a female guest left the host’s office. ”You were in there with the host? Did he see you?” Dominic asks her. Thankfully, she replies that she was hidden under the desk, but they still had to get her out. They couldn’t do the same distraction or risk the security guards getting suspicious, unless they could heighten the fight with Trinity and Josiah.
