History

I was alone.
"Papa, papa please don't leave me..." I stood by his bed watching his rough hand brush my hair back. "L-Lena listen to me...you- you tell those people that you are strong..and you're not afraid." He muttered in silence. I clentched his hand, feeling the cold tear roll down my cheek. He struggled to place my mother's silver locket around my neck, she died when I was born. "You look just liker her..." He smiled slightly as his eyes closed. He passed away as it began to rain.
I inherited the small house, it wasn't much but it was near the ocean- the only place that kept me calm. I promised him that I would live so he could protect me, and I'd keep that promise as long as I could. I quickly learned how to hunt and spear fish, I never knew I could aim so well. Years past, and it was still the same. I was quiet and shut everyone out, forcing my mind to revolve around surviving alone. I grew up, making sure I would live for my father, Until I was reaped.
"Yes, our female tribute- Lena Cartwright!" The escort said on stage. "You tell those people that you are strong..and you're not afraid."The words echoed through my head as I stepped onto the stage, not showing any fear though I was screaming inside. I promised I would live, so I promise I'll try.

So begins...

I had no one to say goodbye to, so the departure from District 4 was quick. I folded my hands in my lap and began to tap my foot against the floor- a nervous habit. "So you're Lena?" I looked up seeing a woman with a bulky build and hair tied up in a messy bun, about in her mid 40's. "I'm your mentor, Ezra." She replied to my silence. I looked the opposite way, making her realize I didn't want to talk at the moment. I heard her footsteps drift off. I looked around the train, admiring the delicate looking desserts and unique designs. I hadn't really tasted anything other than fish and bread. "Sort of, like a painting..." I thought to myself. The train haulted to a stop as I heard the cheers of Capitol people swarming around the train. "Here we go..."

I had settled in the Capitol, and was forced to the Training Center immediantley. I stepped into the back of the tribute line, studying the tributes. I took a deep breathe and listened to the instructor. When her talking was over, all of the tributes dispursed to the weapon section, getting ready to show off their skills. I just stood there watching them. Adalay was stunning with her bow, and Clove looked ruthless along with Emma. I watched Maya climb on the nets around the celing. My mind was turned back onto reality as I went to the poison station, studying what berries I need to avoid. "And I thought the Capitol people were bad..." What a first impression.

I stood at the camoflouge station, trying to get the detail in of making my hand look like a piece of wood- looked more like splatter paint on skin. I looked up to get another brush but saw Clove watching me, but looked away quickly. "Don't want to start any enemies now..." I thought to myself. I resumed getting the brush. I glanced toward Lena, at the poison station, I was suprised I had the patience to remember their names. She looked like she didn't want to be here- like me.

Well, after an hour of learning boring facts about poisoned berries, I turned back to see Seth, using the throwing knives. Wow, he was excellent...a career maybe? I tried to look away but then I heard him talking rudly to another career...maybe not? I looked the other way as I heard him walk over to another station. "Lena," I thought to myself, "Show them you're not afraid..."

Lena shook to hear someone talking to her. She looked down to see Rollie, a 12 year old from District 11 who was very small for her age. Lena smiled slightly, she actually felt comfortable talking to someone who couldn't knock her down with one swing of a punch. "Oh, this?" Lena replied holding her necklace up. "This was my mother's...I suppose it is beautiful-" Lena bent down to whisper in Rollie's ear, "Thanks Rollie..."

I started sharpening my knife as I waited for Clove's reply. I looked over to the berry station to see Lena and Rollie talking.

Adalay walked around the stations, watching everyone talk to each other. What was a Career like Lena doing talking to loser like R-R-Rollie. She snickered. that was a good nickname. Suddenly, she felt something hit her. That girl, Maya, she was wildly firing with a slingshot, and one of the balls she was shooting had hit her! That girl was so dead. Adalay stormed over to her. "What was that for, idiot?"

As Rollie stood talking to Lena, who was very interesting, she saw Adalay picking on Maya. "E-Excuse me. I'll b-be right back." She ran over to the place where the tributes were arguing. "D-Don't pick on her! whatever she did it wasn't her fault!" They stared at her in amazement. Then they all started to talk.

I stood there. The fight took place before my eyes. Rollie trotted away, and I knew trouble would happen. And it did. Bridget sure did hit Adalay. I have to say Adalay deserved it, but Bridget looked like she didn't want to. I knew she was just defending the others. I wish I had the guts to hit Adalay...but I don't.
