{{Basic Storyline}}

Living in the generally unpopulated areas of New Zealand are beings of supernatural characteristics. There were witches, vampires, lycanthropes, ghosts, faeries, angels, demons, succubi, merpeople, elves, and so many more. Living in hiding from humans in general, they have become detached from humanity almost altogether. Many of the creatures even hunt humans, the taste of their flesh too tempting. What will happen when the humans find out where they are hiding? Will the Supernaturals be hunted to extinction?

1. I would prefer that face claims be used, but I will accept drawn pictures as well. You may either make a reservation or simply submit a character sheet, though I would prefer that reservations be made as they make things a lot easier for me.

2. No God-Modding. We all know what this is and how to avoid it. Your interactions with other characters should allow the other person to react to your post. Example:
Person 1: "He swung his sword towards the warrior."
Person 2: "The warrior blocked the blow with his kite shield."

3. I expect everyone that shows an interest in this roleplay to be committed to it. I expect 2+ posts per week from everyone involved once the roleplay starts. If you cannot commit, then do not join.

4. I also expect at least 2-3 paragraphs (depending on the situation, but generally 2-3) per post. Posts should be thought out, have a combination of sentence types, and be literate. I understand the occasional typo here and there, but please try to keep it to an absolute minimum.

Note: Don't be afraid to ask me any questions and voice any concerns you may have through PM.

"I would drink, but tell me, Oh inebriated leader, don't we have a mission to get to? Believe me, I'm all for slacking off but we could at least pretend that we are doing some work," Lalan said and Vice shot him a venomous glare. "We have a mission in the morning. So by all means, drink up, Champagne," she said, sarcastically smiling at him and raising her glass as if to say 'Cheers' before she downed it.

The Next Morning

Vice realized she'd fallen asleep and was now at Aidan's place. Did he bring me here?! What the hell did he do to me?! she thought angrily, sitting up quickly, giving herself a terrible headache. She put her hand to her head, squeezing her eyes shut. Gods, how much did I drink last night? She looked around. Is Lalan seriously here too? she thought to herself, looking at the sleeping albino on the floor. Christ.... She swung herself around, her feet landing on the floor loudly. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and looked back at Lalan. "I hope my stomping woke you up, Champagne." She pushed off the couch and made her way around Aidan's house, attempting to find the kitchen. She came across Aidan's room, his bedroom door wide open. He was sprawled out on the bed, wearing only underwear. She scrunched her nose, grabbed the door handle, and slammed the door shut. She put her hand to her head again. Ugh, my head..

She continued around the house until she finally happened upon the kitchen. She rummaged through a few cupboards before finally finding a cup. She took it and filled it with water from the tap, drinking it quickly. That's a bit better.... I wonder if Aidan has a coffee maker? She looked around the kitchen, searching with her eyes but couldn't seem to find one. Just then, she heard noises coming from around the house. "Must've woken them up." She paused, a smirk forming on her lips. "How rude of me." Her smile didn't fade as she continued to drink more water, trying to rid of the headache her hangover was giving her.

"Can you see that figure?" Shaylee jolted as Adonael's wings changed their positioning into a more defensive stance. She looked out to see what he could be spying and stood as well. She saw his form come into view and then stop, about a quarter of a mile away from the edge of the forest. She put her hand out in front of Adonael, as if to motion him to stay where he was. "Should we investigate it? For all we know, it could be trying to harm the forest, and if not, whatever stopped it might."

"Yes, I can, though he has no clear distinction on creature or human. Stay here, and don't let him see your wings. I will change into my human form and greet him," she said, stepping in front of Adonael. Making sure the trees hid them both, she closed her eyes and pulled from herself Athru, the ability of transformation. In a quick, fluid, motion her hair grew longer past her waist and her wings disappeared. She heightened about an inch and a half and her clothes changed from her wispy pink gown to a summery white dress. Remembering that outside her forest it was winter, she created a coat and leggings to go underneath. The cold was dangerous to a faery of her season if she stayed in too long, which is why her forest remained in constant spring. The only thing she couldn't change about herself were her eyes. They remained a constant Robin's Egg Blue, and if you looked closely, you could see nature's life within.

Image

"Wait here, I'll be back in a moment," she told Adonael. Walking outside the forest, she came to a stop a few feet away from the stranger. "Hello. What is a man like you doing stopped dead in his tracks in the snow?" She did not see what had caused him to freeze, but maybe that was because she hadn't looked on her way over to him.

Everything suddenly became still. The night’s breeze stopped rustling the leaves, the birds stopped ruffling their feathers, and deep in the heart of the New Zealand forest the young vampire stopped running for a moment and kept his body completely still. Standing quietly, Alistair watched as a young woman revealed herself from behind a green shroud of leaves and branches. He eyed her peculiarly as she began to speak to him, but stayed transfixed in his one position.

β€œHello. What is a man like you doing stopped dead in his tracks in the snow?” the woman spoke.

A man. Alistair smiled at the thought. It had been long since he had last been referred to as such and it was fun to sometimes tease the idea that he indeed was some sort of a man, but the silence of his heart and constant thirst for blood reminded him otherwise. And after a brief, pensive period of silence, Alistair soon grew aware of the long break he had put between the woman’s words and a response of his own. He decided it would be better if he put off the brooding and self-pitying until later.

”Excuse my bewilderment, miss,” he said, trying to be respectful, β€œI just arrived here in New Zealand and didn’t realize live, blooming forests could exist during the winter amidst all this snow,” he was of course lying; he had already come to that realization on the cliff. But in order to hide the fact that he was a vampire, he tried his best to seem as naΓ―ve and normal as possible in order to not frighten the young, human lady.

The real reason was that Alistair sensed something in the area. Because he was undead, he could sense when large amounts of others that, too, were living deceased were around him. Something or multiple things inhabited the area that long ago, or recently for that matter, should have left the earthly realm. Or entered here and were never supposed to be here in the first place. And though he knew he was amongst them, he could feel the heavy concentration of supernaturals in that wilderness. But with that realization, there was something else that bothered him even more. He turned to the young woman, looking at her even more curiously, suddenly wondering how she had stayed safe while wandering around a wilderness full of supernatural all on her own.

Aidan groaned. In his dream he had been killing hordes and hordes of vampires until a sudden slamming of his bedroom door woke him up. ”God I hope I brought home a lady last night,” Aidan muttered to himself, throwing on some pants as he thought about who could have possibly come in and slammed his door, ” I am in no mood to be fighting a burglar in this hangover.”

As Aidan exited his room, he brought his hand to his forehead, close his eyes, and muttered the words, ”Oh my God,” for sprawled out against his living room floor was his passed out fellow hunter, Lalan. β€œPlease let me not have done something crazy or sexual with you, Lalan,” Aidan said as he made his way over to his unconscious comrade.

In an effort to wake Lalan up and find out what the heck happened the night before, Aidan walked over to his fellow hunter and began nudging him with his foot. But just as Aidan was beginning to wake up the sleeping hunter, he saw a familiar pair of brown boots laid out haphazardly near the base of his couch: as if someone sleeping on it just kicked them off their feet before they went to bed. In the moment that Aidan realized whom those boots most probably belonged to, he, again, brought his hand to his face, closed his eyes tightly, but this time muttered the words, β€œOh shit.” This reaction was because of the fact that now, both his hunting peer and his superior had passed out in his house, and the latter hunter was nowhere in sight.

Lalan awoke to the sound of stomping coming from his right.

He blinked a few times, to see Vice crawling off the couch. She was still dressed and he looked down at him to find he was still dressed himself.

"Damn." He thought. The woman was floored last night, he wouldn't suprised if she did decide finally to take him to bed.

He was grateful that she didn't. That would be something he wanted her to remember.

He was a flirt, but even he had his limits to how far he went.

His head swam as Aiden nudged his foot. "Stop..." He groaned. Lalan couldn't get drunk, his body was resistant to alcohol but human flesh...that was a rush and he was feeling the effects not only that....he wasn't hungry.

The night's events flashed before his eyes as Aiden gasped out his exact thoughts.

"Oh shit."

Vice and Aiden was completely floored last night, Vice falling unconscious at the table. Lalan and Aiden had both dragged her to the car, Lalan taking the wheel being the only sober member of the group, Aiden stumbled into his bedroom while Lalan carried Vice and laid her on the couch.

Then it happened. Lalan grew hungry, so much so his stomach felt as if it was destroying itself.

Gathered himself up enough to find a payphone, call the waitress from the bar and....

"Fucking idiot." He thought to himself. He looked down to see if any blood stains had got onto his pale attire. Thankfuly, none did, Most likely, he slept with her before devouring her body.

He hated that, he hated it so much, he wish he were a vampire, so that all he needed was blood, but no, he needed the entire body, bones and all. His teeth were as tough as bone saws, his stomach could ingest and digest human flesh.

He needed the entire body to survive, it was disgusting, but it was necessary.

Lalan got to his feet.

"Yes...Unfortunately she wasn't drunk enough to want to sleep with me...you on the other hand..." He snickered. Aiden was always trying to get Lalan worked up, it always ended in failure but not so much for Lalan...his timing was always right.

He walked into the Kitchen. "Vice, my dear, I didn't mean to dehydrate you, but last night, I couldn't control the amount of liquid your body released." He said with a grin as he watched her down a glass of water. He was fully prepared to dodge that glass that would inevitably be thrown at his head for that statement but it was too easy. He couldn't resist.

Shaylee watched the male figure patiently while he seemed to be lost in his thoughts. After being alive for over ten centuries, you learn to wait a minute for the later generation to catch up. While he was thinking, she observed him. He looked like a human, with human features and human characteristics, but there was something about his inner nature, something she sensed, that she couldn't put her finger on, almost as if she was missing that final little piece of the puzzle. She was without her powers aligned with nature in her human form, and since soothsaying didn't do much on anyone except faeries, she felt like she was without one of her senses. The snow felt disconnected, and she was beginning to freeze from the inside out. While normal for some other supernaturals and humans, the snow and cold was practically a toxin for spring faeries like herself. Finally, the figure spoke.

”Excuse my bewilderment, miss, I just arrived here in New Zealand and didn’t realize live, blooming forests could exist during the winter amidst all this snow,” he said and Shaylee smiled lightly.

"Yes, it is a rare thing here," She answered yet didn't allow time for deliberation, just in case he was indeed human, or worse, hunting the things that were not human. She glanced back at the forest, knowing Adonael must be watching with trepidation, and flexed her toes, allowing the blood to try and keep moving through her veins. Since she was the strongest faery in her land, she could last the cold longer than the others, but that still didn't mean it was comfortable. Looking back at the figure, for she still hadn't decided what he was, she cocked her head. There was something about his stance, about the way he was staring at her, almost calculating, that caused her to take a small step back towards the safety of her forest. If it came down to it, she had the ability through nature's life force to create a barrier around her forest and Adonael so to protect it against intruders. She hoped that it wouldn't come down to that, however. "I'm sorry to disturb you, but you seem to be slightly agitated. If it's not too much prying on my part, might I ask why?"

{OOC: Other Elves - Saeriel - Other Character }

Saeriel grimaced when her gaze met Victor's. He looked beyond confused and altogether upset. She felt a thread of guilt weave its way around her heart. The elven woman wasn't used to caring for people and was often treated more like a man than she was any type of woman. So for Victor who had complimented her and treated her as an actual woman deserved a bit better than to be treated with a type of superiority from her people and an indifference from Saeriel. Saeriel thumbed her bow uncomfortably as Victor asked her a question. "Is that who you were speaking with?" Saeriel chewed on the inside of her cheek gently trying to find the words to explain it to him with. So far she had refrained from speaking her native elven tongue. After all, although the elves hadn't kept up completely with human technology, mostly because they didn't believe in the chance of having it malfunction, they had kept up with several languages that the humans spoke. The elders took care of teaching the younger elves to speak it. It was hard to explain the gatekeeper in normal words without seeming strange she supposed to them. Saeriel finally deigned to answer simply. "Yes." She glanced at Lalana hoping the girl wouldn't ask any questions about the gatekeeper either. Saeriel almost palmed her face knowing that she was being an ass. First she tells them to ask as many questions as they needed but when it gets difficult to answer she wanted them to shut up. Saeriel returned her gaze to Victor and raised a brow as he stuttered, "M-Maybe it's better if I stay out here…." Victor lowered his eyes and Saeriel felt that niggling guilt again. "I don't want to cause trouble for you or your village…." Victor's voice was weighted with his emotions and Saeriel's hand clenched on the bows' grip. He crouched down, pinching some snow between his fingertips as he sighed heavily. She turned her gaze away from the sight and let her gaze travel the quiet forest. She knew Erulto was probably snickering at her awkwardness as he listened. "I'm sorry." She apologized not knowing what to say for a moment. She stepped closer to him laid a hand on his shoulder. The pull she felt from his nature strengthened but she had become comfortable with it over the walk and the new strength to it only made her itch to step away. Otherwise there was no reason to avoid him. Once she felt like he could understand that she was sincere she stepped away and got back on the path.

She led them the rest of the way through the forest. The path began to become more distinct as the tree aligned on either side of the trio and became less grassy and more like an actual dirt path. The snow had also started to thin and eventually as they neared the village edge became nonexistent. Due to the power of the area the land around the village only had two seasons and that was fall and spring. Snow never fell much and if it did it never stuck to the ground. However the chill was in the air and the leave were in that state of deciding what color they wanted to be. Most of the leaves on the trees were yellow to fading green but never red or orange and Saeriel peered up at the bridge where a guard scowled down at them. She waved and used her other hand to making a hushing motion over her lips and the guard shook his head at them.

The lights in the trees were still off but she figured they would be on soon as she took a glance at the sky. The sky was turning shades of pink and blue and some orange on the horizon as the time neared sunset. Saeriel murmured softly as she thought about the task at hand. We don't have much time. It will be nightfall soon and the feast will begin. I need to take them to the medical hut immediately. I also need to speak to the eld- Her thoughts were cut off as Lalana asked her a question. "So um, Saeriel, Do you think they can…um…make me at least tangible? It's a bizarre feeling to see yourself, but not the effects you have on the world…not even a foot print in the snow." Lalana trailed off into silence. Saeriel tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ears and wondered why she hadn't braided it before answering the apparition. "Honestly, I'm not sure. I've never heard of it but I'm relatively young in elven years and untrained in the medical arts. Jaenenne would know more. Also, she's a creative character and comes from a strong line. She'll help you somehow." Saeriel grinned, briefly proud of the little healer. "Well. We should get going before the sun sets on us and the feast begins." Saeriel gestured for them to follow with her right hand and turned to keep walking. "We should stick to the main ground-path. It will be busy at this time but it is easiest to get from here to the grand tree." She informed them.

Saeriel walked along the path for a while and waved to many of her people. At this hour many of the hunter were coming back with their bounties and from what she could see only a few had caught anything big. One band of hunters had a cart full of birds and few wild pig and Saeriel called to them. "Hey! You caught plenty! Tell me your secret spot next time okay?" The men laughed and some raised good-natured fists while others raised their bows. One man will long blonde hair stepped around the others with a fierce smile. "Saeriel. " He greeted before glancing to her guests in tow with an inquiring look but he didn't comment on it, instead clapping the fire-haired elven woman on the shoulders. "You aren't carrying in a deer. The men will be glad to have won that bet." He reserved saying what Saeriel had threatened to take from the men but Saeriel was unabashed even with Victor and Lalana behind her. "You mean their balls? It would have been a reward. They don't use them anyway." She teased sarcastically and responded to his touch with a affectionate pat on his hand. Saeriel turned slightly to see her guests and gestured at the blonde elf, "This is Valanthar. He is my-" She paused searching for the correct word in normal words. "Best friend. We grew up together so our people call him my Ban-Fral-Nid-Cinhil" She enunciated is word as clearly as possible without clustering them as she usually would in her language.

Valanthar was slightly taller than Saeriel but he had a boyish quality about him. His piercing blue eyes tended to woo many of the elven women but most never did anything about it because of his childish face. However, he was very strong and physically fit and tried his best to appear nice. Valanthar bowed and when he raised, his eyes raked over Victor then Lalana before he gave Victor a reluctant pat on the shoulder. He turned back to Saeriel. He lightly touched her elbow and his smile warmed her causing her to return it happily. "Try to not to anger the Elders will you, not intentionally okay? Every time I see you you're fighting something or getting into more trouble. Plus, Eldren and Mirkwan are waiting for you at the Grand Tree. I don't know what about." With that he strode back to the men who had leaned in to listen to Valanthar apparently curious about the guests. Saeriel waited a moment before looking to Victor and Lalana. "When you meet my people they may be more touchy than most other…species? It is how we become friendlier. However I would suggest not initiating it until one us does, just in case. Especially with the older elves." She reminded them. "Also, Lalana, Jaenenne may be able to touch you. I just remembered that Jaenenne often communicates with the spirits in the glen. So be prepared for her to try." Saeriel murmured with a shrug before continuing to walk on.

The sun was just a sliver on the horizon when the trio came upon the murky pond with a large regal tree in the center. A faint glow at the top signaled that the fire-elves were just beginning to stir the flames for the feast. The area around the tree was filled with fireflies and other insects buzzing around. A frog croaked loudly in the background and Saeriel was miffed not to hear the crickets chirping. She supposed it was not dark enough yet. Elves stood around talking in quiet voices as they looked to the trio and then away after giving them curious waves. Some of the guardians had gathered but definitely not all as Saeriel only spotted four so far. She stepped onto the wooden bridge that led to the grand trees roots and the entrance passageway that would take them into the tree. Magic left a tingle on her skin but was not similar to the barrier that Erelto used to ward off other creatures. It was a comfortable sensation that caressed her skin like a blanket. Saeriel led the group into the Grand Tree and was thankful not to see Eldren and Mirkwan as she continued through the lamp-lit passage. She took them through winding passages and intersections before they eventually came upon a door. The door was simply an entrance with leaves covering it to create privacy and Saeriel strode through the leaves and took a look around.

The she-elf was unprepared for what came next as a small girl slammed into Saeriel enclosing her with a hug. "Sae! My lovely hunter!" The girl squealed cheerfully. Saeriel regarded the elf with a slightly annoyed smile. "Jaenenne. My favorite little pest." She chuckled, only slightly serious. Jaenenne flashed her a wild smile and turned on the guests. "Hello! Sit down, please. I insist." The elf-girl gestured towards some ottomans nearby. Jaenenne stood at about four foot nine with long flowing dirty-blonde hair and grey green eyes. Her complexion was fair and she had cute thin lips that curved up in a beautiful smile. Her robes were a woody brown and Saeriel eyed the wing attachments on the sleeves that were mementos of her mother's. Saeriel took a seat in the corner facing the door and crossed her arms as Jaenenne scrutinized Lalana. "Jay-bird, give the girl some space will you. She's not your newest toy." Saeriel lectured the healer. Jaenenne glowered at Saeriel before huffing and bowing to the two guests. "I am Jaenenne. Healer of the Hidre'thael. I am extremely pleased to meet you." Jaenenne chirped happily, raising to give Victor and Lalana pleased looks. Saeriel turned her head to peer out of the small window to her left as she let her mind wander while Jaenenne talked. "I am sure Saeriel brought you here for a reason and I assure you I will try my best." She looked to Victor and smiled charmingly. "You are very welcome here in this hut." Jaenenne assured him as if reading him like a book. Saeriel glanced at the others with amusement and figured she would warn them. "Jay-bird, don't intrude on others emotions either, will you?" Saeriel eyed the girl with scorn but she was sure Jaenenne sensed her humor. Jaenenne shrugged giving Victor an apologetic grin. Jaenenne looked to Lalana. "Spirit, what ails you?" Her voice edged with seriousness but Saeriel knew she was having fun because her eyes glittered with mirth.

Adonael watched as Shaylee approached the figure. Though she'd told him to stay behind, he couldn't help but inch closer, his wings tucked tightly against his back, rendering them unable to be seen. He was at the forest's edge now and he could hear the conversation the two were having, though the male figure seemed to have thoughts elsewhere. Shaylee spoke. "I'm sorry to disturb you, but you seem to be slightly agitated. If it's not too much prying on my part, might I ask why?" Though she was obviously curious as to what the figure's answer would be, Adonael didn't give him a chance to answer.

Adonael ran in front of Shaylee, spreading his massive wings out. They were about as long as twice his height and they were thick, black, and menacing if Adonael positioned them right. "Whatever it is you're looking for, you'll not find it here," Adonael hissed. The male figure wasn't human, though he didn't know if he were a KaikaiwaiΕ«, a traitor to his Supernatural brethren. Adonael knew that some Supernaturals could hide themselves with the humans and some became Hunters, hunting their former comrades so that they themselves wouldn't be hunted. Adonael positioned his wings to cover Shaylee, protecting her from anything this creature might do. "Go back into the forest. You've got to be freezing...." Adonael said softly to Shaylee. "Go!" He shooed her away, turning back to the male. "What are you doing here?" Adonael growled, his hands balled up into fists, his wings still full and intimidating.

That was it. That was the supernatural thing, or at least one of the supernatural things, that Alistair had sensed. A few seconds before that, he was talking to the human woman. She seemed cold and really fragile but Alistair was in too much into his own head to figure out what to do next. He was prepared to protect the both of them if it happened that any supernatural creature were to come out and attack them, and then suddenly one came running up to the woman and ordered her to run back.

The supernatural was ancient. Black, imposing wings spread out aside his body and purple eyes filled with decades of pain and torment flared up and stared Alistair dead in the eye. Alistair would have attacked the supernatural if not for the words the being spoke to the woman. He, the black angel, was protecting her. Therefore, Alistair needed to assess the situation before doing something too rash.

β€œWhat are you doing here?” the angel said angrily, snapping Alistair out of his inner thoughts. Alistair decided it’d be best if he answered back quickly this time. The angel had to be much more powerful than Alistair, especially because Alistair hadn’t fed on live, human blood for the better half of the century. But that weakness was something he needed to hide, or perhaps, in this particular case, exploit.

β€œSorry, angel, for having disturbed the both of you. I wasn’t able to talk about such things with the human, but with you I’m sure I am safe telling you what I am. I am sort of your opposite, though I am a bastardized version, diluted by multiple bloodlines, to become what they call the vampire. I was on my way to seek out this part of the forest, as it was the only part of the forest that was in full bloom, but when I arrived, I sensed a high concentration of other supernaturals in the area. One of them I suppose being you. It is why I paused right in front of your paradise, for I otherwise would have just entered.” He looked at the angel, eyeing him carefully as he did the woman. But as he began analyzing the stance and fieriness in the angel’s face, he decided further explanation would be required of him in order to come out of the situation in one piece.

β€œI don’t want to fight you,” the vampire said, removing the intensity in his eyes so that his intentions were not mistaken, β€œIt isn’t so much because I mind fighting, but because we both know you could snap me in half in a heartbeat. I just arrived here, seeking the seclusion of New Zealand as a shelter. I just didn’t know how many supernatural beings inhabited the area. It surprised me and made me question if going further into the forest was my best choice for my survival.” Alistair paused for a moment.

The words that he had spoken so far had been motivated by the purpose of persuading the angel to realize that Alistair wasn’t a threat to the forest or the woman. But, with many questions on his mind, the vampire’s following words were motivated by a general curiosity about the woman and the connection the human woman had with this ancient creature. So the second these words formulated in Alistair's head, he blurted them out carelessly, ”Speaking of survival, it seems the young woman you are protecting has managed to stay safe in this freezing forest filled with supernatural,” Alistair said, losing his former tact he had adopted in choosing the words he spoke to the angel, ”Now this situation, of course, has brought up a lot of questions for me. But the main one is not about the reason why you are protecting her. You seem to be some sort of angel; it makes sense that you would protect a human being. But instead, my question comes up being, β€˜why is an ancient divinity such as yourself (no doubt some sort of angel) wandering around in the cold wilderness of New Zealand, in a concentrated area of other supernaturals, and on earth, a place so far from heaven?”

Yes…Unfortuantely she wasn’t drunk enough to want to sleep with me…you on the other hand…” Lalan said, with a snicker, to Aidan. However, Aidan was too hungover to catch his comrade’s subtle jest, and so as Lalan went into the kitchen, Aidan stood in complete shock hoping to the Heavens that the other hunter wasn’t being serious.

As the dumbfounded hunter stood like an idiot in the living room, some conversation and interaction transpired in the kitchen. But after a few minutes of Aidan standing, speechless, in the living room, he snapped out of his stupor and finally fully digested what action had just occurred: Lalan walked into the kitchen.

Now, normally, people don’t mind other people walking into their kitchens because, aside from some dirty dishes in the sink or maybe some leftover smudges on their countertops, there isn’t much that they don’t want their guests to see. But in Aidan’s case, there were vials and vials of hospital blood sitting in the door of his fridge, and the second someone opened it, they would see it.

Busting into the kitchen came a very energetic Aidan, whose enthusiasm came not from actual enthusiasm but for a need to hide his pressing fear. Of course, finding out Vice was in there too was no help, but the hungover male hunter was still able to get out some frantic and poorly connected words, ”Heeeyy, guys. What’s up?” seeing Vice, Aidan decided to give her a nod, ”Vice. Hopefully drinking tap water. Good. Lalan just recently walked in here. Cool. Okay! Nice! Everyone’s set! So what about we move this little party into the living room, or perhaps, maybe, out of my apartment altogether!” Aidan said with half of it him just thinking out loud, the other half of it being barely thought out. But no matter where the group decided to transfer to, there were two objectives Aidan had on his mind: 1) Not letting any of them look into the fridge and 2) Finding out what in the world happened last night after he had his third glass of alcohol and then blacked out.

Lalan walked into the kitchen and spoke, staring directly at Vice. "Vice, my dear, I didn't mean to dehydrate you, but last night, I couldn't control the amount of liquid your body released." Her eyes narrowed and she set down her glass. She stepped over to Lalan and pushed him against the wall. She brought her lips close to his, baring her teeth in a sexy manner. "You wish," she muttered through her teeth before smacking Lalan upside the head as a warning shot. She turned away and returned to her former state, drinking the cool tap water, when Aidan came crashing into the kitchen.

”Heeeyy, guys. What’s up? Vice. Hopefully drinking tap water. Good. Lalan just recently walked in here. Cool. Okay! Nice! Everyone’s set! So what about we move this little party into the living room, or perhaps, maybe, out of my apartment altogether!” Vice narrowed her eyes at him, confused and curious all at the same time. "What's got you so jumpy, princess?" She paused for a moment. "You probably don't want to go outside shirtless. Thank you for putting pants on, at least, but it is winter and we all know princesses will whine if their cold." She motioned at him as if to shoo him. "Go get a shirt and jacket and we'll leave." She looked down at her water. "Oh, and we're getting coffee on the way." Her head was still throbbing from the hangover headache and she needed some pep in her step.

Shaylee smiled as the man was about to answer, and then she felt a disturbance in the field of air behind her and turned around disbelievingly as Adonael flew towards them, his wings spread out to cover her entirely and facing angrily towards the figure in front of them. She scowled at Adonael as he told her to leave, "Do not command me, Adonael. I know your thoughts are in a good place but it is my duty to protect the forest, not yours." Instead, as much as she felt it degraded her, she stayed hidden behind Adonael's wings because surely now that the figure, for she was certain now that he had not run, was a supernatural as well, he would speak to Adonael directly.

β€œSorry, angel, for having disturbed the both of you. I wasn’t able to talk about such things with the human, but with you I’m sure I am safe telling you what I am. I am sort of your opposite, though I am a bastardized version, diluted by multiple bloodlines, to become what they call the vampire. One of them I suppose being you. It is why I paused right in front of your paradise, for I otherwise would have just entered,” She pursed her lips at the admission of his breed. A vampire? She had heard stories but not many. She knew he needed human blood, and she also knew he probably wasn't going to find any of that in her forest. When he mentioned her forest as a paradise, however, she smiled. He seemed to be scrambling for something to cover his tail, most likely because Adonael did look menacing.

Shaylee listened as well when the vampire said he didn't want to fight, but she could have guessed as much. She knew it was only added for Adonael's benefit, seeing as how he was very angry at this point. When he mentioned the fact that she, a human woman was protected in the forest by Adonael, she covered her mouth to prevent a loud laugh. If she was recalling correctly, she was the one who had caught Adonael falling to his death from the top of a tree. Sighing and shaking her head, she didn't listen to Adonael's answer to the vampire's question and instead transformed. She knew that the man would see a bright light outlining Adonael, but she didn't care if he knew of her presence anymore. In a moment, she was back into her faery form, and the cold was pracitcally imperceptibal with the coating of warm magic she spread over her skin. In one breath, she was up in the air and flying back to her forest.

Image

Once there, she turned around and waited with crossed arms for them to return, because surely the vampire would follow Adonael, regardless of how suspicious the angel was of him. She would be there to let him in, and hope that Adonael knew that he had crossed a line. Faeries were not ones to be told what to do.

β€œWhat’s got you so jumpy, princess?” Vice said.

β€œAh. Nothing. I’m just…uh…excited you all are here! Yeah! But not like here. In my apartment. We should probably get out…of…my apartment,” Aidan said, smiling afterwards to cover up his lack of cogency. Trying to come up with excuses was not his forte, so when he did so, his words came out spottily and awkwardly.

The two hunters looked at him for a bit. Then, Vice spoke up, β€œYou probably don’t want to go outside shirtless. Thank you for putting pants on, at least, but it is winter and we all know princesses will whine if they’re cold. Go get a shirt and jacket and we’ll leave. Oh, and we’re getting coffee on the way.”

Aidan nodded in agreement. He was in need of some coffee. And though he was glad the group wasn’t planning on staying long, he still needed them out of the kitchen and away from the refrigerator. β€œOkay, sounds good,” Aidan said, trying to not sound as frantic as he did before, β€œjust wait in the living room and I’ll be back in a matter of seconds.”

Immediately after he was out of the kitchen and out of sight, he ran to his bedroom as quick as he could and found the first shirt and jacket he could see. While he hastily threw on the clothes, some words were exchanged outside. But sure enough, in just a few moments, Aidan was rushing out of his bedroom and ready to go, his clothes, weapons, and wits somewhat in check.

"My question comes up being, β€˜why is an ancient divinity such as yourself (no doubt some sort of angel) wandering around in the cold wilderness of New Zealand, in a concentrated area of other supernaturals, and on earth, a place so far from heaven?'” Adonael looked away at the question. "That is none of your business," he said coldly. Shaylee transformed back into her faery form and stormed back into the forest, seemingly waiting for the other two. She seemed displeased, from what Aondael could tell, but he didn't particularly care. He shot the vampire a glare before turning his back to him, folding his wings tightly to his back.

Adonael pushed past Shaylee gently, making his way back to the rock where he'd slept. He didn't turn back to see if the other two were following him. He shook the bit of snow from his wings and continued on. When he got to the spot, he sat upon the rock, back still to where the others would be.

Jaenenne smiled at Victor and spoke. "You are very welcome here in this hut." He turned his face away from her, embarrassed at the fact that she could obviously tell he was uncomfortable. "I have a question for you, when you are finished with our Lalana here...." And with that he turned and stepped over to the corner, planting himself there, doing his best to stay out of the way.

Victor pursed his lips into an almost pout-like position. He pulled his knees up to his chest and put his left cheek on his knee, squishing his face a bit, making him look even more pitiful and pouty. He sighed softly, doing his best to make sure the others couldn't hear him. He drew little circles with his index finger in the thin dirt that his shoes had tracked in.

Victor did his best to get lost in his own thoughts and not eavesdrop on the conversation that was happening across the room. He continued to draw his little circles and waited patiently.

Alistair was speechless as a bright, warm light spread out along the outlines of the angel’s body. It was as if the essence of spring and nature had just burst against the edges of the angel, causing light to surround him. But before Alistair could mumble out some words, he realized the angel had just said something. Alistair decided to backtrack a few seconds and recollect what the angel said, ”That’s none of your business.” Ah yes. Those were the words. He remembered because the angel spoke them with a sharp tone of contempt. But Alistair, taken back by the shining around the angel, was too late to respond, and snapped back into reality just in time to catch the glare the angel gave him before pulling his wings back in and walking back into the green forest. ”Fair enough,” the vampire thought to himself, still curious about the angel’s intentions.

However, the vampire’s interest was piqued once again just a few moments later: when the angel gently pushed past a small, faery being. What made Alistair curious was not so much the fact that the supernatural was a faery (though in other circumstances it would have been because he had never seen a faery before then), but the fact that the faery, at least with her back turned towards him, had a striking resemblance to the human woman who had just greeted him. He didn’t even realize the faery’s presence until the angel was moving ahead of her into the verdant area of the forest. But now that the angel's wings weren't spread out widely amidst the snow-covered trees, Alistair could see the faery clearly.

In disbelief once again, the vampire took measures to find some sure answers, but with the faery’s back turned towards him, he would need to catch up to her if we wanted to find out her identity.

Driven again by his curiosity, the vampire ran up to the faery as fast as he could, yelling out the words, ”Woah! Hey!” as he did so. However, in his surprise and disbelief, he didn’t even give thought to how fast he was moving. He therefore ran up to her at his full vampire speed and was standing in front of her in a matter of seconds. ”That can’t possibly be…” he said, looking at each line on the faery’s face to see if it were truly the woman he had saw just a moment ago. It didn’t help his already strange first impression that he was examining the faery’s face with confused and intense eyes. But, then again, Alistair never seemed to be one for pulling off a good first impression.

Shaylee moved her shoulders aside as Adonael pushed past her. She turned to face him, uncrossing her arms. "Adonael, it was not right what you did out there. But I forgive you, since we are only just getting to know each other," she conceded. Noticing that he was in a sour mood, she sighed. "Do not take what the vampire says to heart, fallen angel. He is just as curious as you were when we first met. He did not mean you any harm. In order to accept others into your heart, you need to forgive yourself for your past."

Having made her point, she turned to face the vampire just as he ran to her with remarkable speed. She arched a brow and fluttered her wings, amused at his shocked and wondrous expression. "That can't possibly be..." he said and she quirked her lips. As he analyzed her, she stepped back and cleared her throat.

"Shocking, is it not? As Faery Guardian I have the ability to change my shape, just as you appear human to others, vampire," she said. She turned and walked towards Adonael and her forest, knowing the vampire would follow. As she passed, some of her faeries poked their heads out from behind the trees, intrigued at the collective energy that both Adonael and the vampire brought into the forest. She knew that if Adonael was watching, he would be pleased at getting to see them. Some of them may even grow used to him enough to greet him by name. "Be warned, vampire. There will be no hunting in my forest unless I will it so." She had abandoned her sweet, timid, human appearance for her soft yet fierce faery expression. Her earlier interaction with Adonael and the expression the vampire had given her, as if she were a creature under a microscope, had caused her to differ in tone. While Adonael had been greeted with kindness and redemption, she was greeting the vampire with coolness and suspicion. Faeries weren't usually friends with those who hunted nature's beings, though she was willing to give this one a chance."My name to others is Shaylee. You've already met Adonael. What can I call you, vampire?"

The name Matins came straight into his mind, he didn’t know why, for he had left that name behind a long time ago. But the faery, who called herself Shaylee, asked Alistair what his name was and for some reason, that was what popped into his head. ”My name’s Alistair,” said the vampire, holding out his hand as a sign of benevolence, ”Alistair de Soirs.”

As they walked into the forest of Shaylee’s domain, Alistair decided it’d be best if he tried to make amends for his unexpected presence, ”Excuse my intrusion into your forest, Shaylee. I didn’t mean to alarm you or your friend, it’s just a very new experience for me to see other supernaturals. As a vampire, I’ve had a rather human experience, traveling through populated cities of urban Europe. It’s only now that I’ve decided to head out on my own, so seeing angels, shape-shifting faeries, forests that don’t snow, are all still a little, as you said, shocking to me.” Before Alistair let out his next string of words, he looked towards the angel, Adonael, for a bit. The angel was sitting on a rock with his back towards them, his black wings hanging tightly to his back. Alistair hadn’t meant to pry earlier, but it all was still very curious that an angel, as old as he was, was down here, traversing a wilderness on earth. The vampire looked at him for a bit, still trying to figure out his reason for being here, but turned back to Shaylee when he remembered he still had something to say.

”Also, Shaylee, I can assure you that no hunting will be done on my part while in your area of the forest. Though I thirst for blood, I have other means of securing it. Everything in your forest will be safe,” Alistair said with only the slightest worry in his eyes. But he'd figure he'd find some way to get blood. Nothing in the faery's forest would have to be his next meal. In the pause that took place after he made his statement to Shaylee, Alistair took the opportunity to simmer down. He had been unusually energetic this night. But that he blamed on finally being free from his master.

Walking deeper into Shaylee’s forest, Alistair could only marvel at how beautiful and lush everything was. Animals ran cheerfully about the forest floor, night insects chirped and buzzed around, a cool breeze rustled the trees leaves every so often, and the soft earth beneath him felt like padded foam. Alistair smiled. It reminded him of his farmland in France that he had worked on in his childhood. Especially because it was at night, when the rest of the world was sleeping and made way for the nocturnal animals to burst into life.

Adonael stayed facing away from the two, half listening to their conversation. Alistair de Soirs. The vampire's name rang about in Adonael's head. He decided that he needed to cool off for a bit and go for a flight for a short while. He didn't bother speaking to either of the others and spread his wings. He fluffed his raven black feathers and took off into the twilight. It wasn't quite night yet, though it was indeed getting darker.

As Adonael flew, he watched as he exited the perimeter of Shaylee's forest, flying toward a nearby pond. He looked down, noticing a cottage-like house near the pond and what looked like a person sitting upon the cliff adjacent to both the house and the pond. He swooped down near the pond, doing his best to initially stay out of sight, in case the person was a Hunter. When he landed, he folded his wings tightly against his back, the twilight luminescence dim enough to help him hide them. He approached the figure slowly, as to not startle it. It was a girl, seemingly young in age with a young, pretty face. "Hello," he said softly. "Might I ask why you are out here all alone?"

Vice moved to the living as Aidan had suggested, dragging Lalan by the sleeve into the room as well. "We'll need to find out where Bomb is as well!" Vice called so that Aidan could hear her. Chris Tannenbaum was another Hunter and a very skilled one. Vice had a slight obsession with nicknames, Bomb being Chris's and Champagne being Lalan's. Though she hadn't come up with a good one for Aidan yet, but she tended to call him Princess for lack of a better name. Vice slid her boots on and waited for Aidan. He came rushing out, fully dressed, weapons on him, and she motioned with her finger for the others to follow her as she stepped out of Aidan's apartment.

Vice shoved the two into the car, flipping the keys around her finger. "To coffee!"" she shouted, throwing her fist into the air out of excitement. She needed the coffee at this point. Not only was her headache getting worse but she was also feeling somewhat tired at this point. I need myself a good pick-me-up.... Vice thought to herself. She opened the driver's side door and slid in. She started the engine and drove off to the nearest Esquires Coffee House, which was always raging with business nowadays, the people of New Zealand loving their daily coffee fix. She hopped out of the car and walked into the shop, not waiting for the others, ordering herself a Mocha with white chocolate. As soon as her order was up, she snatched the cup, sipping gently at the thick, creamy, white chocolatey espresso, smiling subtly and closing her eyes at the enjoyment of its taste.

A school of kahawai were unaware of being watched with a hungry gaze, the group swimming along the coast of the bay without care. Their blissful ignorance was short lived, a sudden dart of movement and blue shimmer passing by before two of the larger fish were snatched up. One fish was already in a set of powerful jaws, the other clutched in a tight grip from deceptively gentle looking hands.

The creature smiled in content as she munched away on her dinner, quickly finishing the first before biting into the second kahawai with relish. She finished off two other fish before deciding she was full, watching as the school in question swam away in a nervous flurry. The fish would become complacent in mere minutes again, living the life of simple prey.

Swimming to the surface and peeking her head out of the water, the young woman glanced around for a moment, relaxing upon seeing nothing unusual in the bay. No small vessels were out on the water, and the towns were far enough away to not be of undue concern, but not so foreign as to not show a soft glow of light in the distance. Forests and mountains dotted the landscape before the land sloped down and eventually met the shore of Golden Bay.

Approaching the beach of Golden Bay, the unusual creature made her way to a large rock protruding from the water, deciding this was a good perch for the time being. As she hoisted herself up, she revealed a shimmering, iridescent blue tail starting from her waist. Blue scales dotted her torso and covered her chest, and blue hair contrasted with her pale skin. The mermaid watched in fascination as her tail slowly began to morph into human limbs, the only sign of her tail having existed manifesting in lingering scales spotted along her skin.

After Vice violently shoved Lalan and Aidan into the car she shouted, β€œTo coffee!” excitedly, and sped off towards the local coffee shop. Now that Aidan didn’t have to worry about them seeing the vials of blood in his fridge, he calmed way down and felt the hangover set in. ”Ugh” he thought, β€œnow that I’m out of adrenaline I’m gonna need tremendous amounts of caffeine.”

When they got to the shop, Vice got out of the car and rushed into the coffee house. She didn’t look back to see if the other two got out. Aidan gave a little smile towards Lalan. ”I don’t think she even turned off the car,” the dhampir said to his comrade. As the truck began slowly rolling down the street, Aidan laughed, ”No. She definitely didn’t turn off the car.” (and for some reason it was in neutral...)

After putting the car in park and pulling the keys out of the ignition, Aidan made his way into the coffee shop, gesturing Lalan to come in also.

”I’ll have a tall, dark roast please,” Aidan said, giving his order to the barista, ”No cream or sugar.” As Aidan waited for his order to come, he looked over and watched Vice sip her coffee with her eyes closed and a smile teasing around the corners of her lips. ”You seem quite happy,” Aidan said. Not to be mistaken, Aidan was glad he was about to get some caffeine in his system, but Vice seemed abnormally happy, almost blissful, sipping on her coffee. And it was weird for Aidan to see her in this state, as she was neither angry nor drunk.

As Shaylee and the vampire were walking deeper into the blooming forest, the angel, Adonael, suddenly got up, spread his broad black wings, and took flight. Alistair watched while the pair of black wings disappeared passed the border of green trees lining Shaylee’s forest and into the snowy drift of the New Zealand wilderness.

Alistair looked towards Shaylee. ”I didn’t make him mad, did I?” he said half jokingly, half seriously. He really hadn’t meant to pry, but curiosity, he supposed, was something that seized him relentlessly. It was something to be expected, however, for the vampire never really had a chance to grow out of it. He paused for a moment, not speaking so that he wasn’t talking up the faery’s ear. But after a while, he asked, ”So Shaylee. What other supernaturals live in the area?” Alistair was still concerned about just how concentrated the area was with his kind. The last time he was in an area so concentrated with supernaturals, he found his master and himself running away from a crew of hunters, bred from the Paris Syndicate. Though the hunters seemed to be no match for his master, much less a match for both his master and Alistair himself put together, there was one hunter the two did fear running in to, one that the older vampire knew from his younger vampire days in Germany.

”He no longer should be around,” Alistair remembered his master saying, ”But that same vampire hunter, the one I used to hear about from the legends the townspeople spread in Germany, has somehow managed to stay alive or something.”
”How do you know?
”I’ve heard from the Brotherhood that killings similar to the style of this old hunter have started sprouting up in areas leading up to and in New Zealand," said the old, Anglo-Saxon vampire to Alistair, "But when I talked to a friend of mine in Germany, he told me that to say the killings were just similar to those of that supposedly dead hunter, would be an understatement,” a few seconds, suspended in the tense, French air, elapsed before his master finished by saying, ”I wouldn’t be caught dead going to a place like that. New Zealand is a place that is off limits. We could travel the whole world, but New Zealand is not an option, okay?”
”Sure.”

Suddenly, while inwardly reflecting over his old memories, Alistair realized he had been staring intensely at the ground while totally missing what Shaylee had just said. He didn’t want to be rude and admit that he had totally blanked out for the past few minutes, but he was still interested in hearing her answer. ”Sorry,” Alistair said, reverently towards the faery, β€œbut could you please say that again?”

As Vice was enjoying her coffee, Aidan's voice interjected into her thoughts. "You seem quite happy." Her small smile faded and her eyes shot to him, glaring at him harshly. She took larger, longer drinks of her coffee, trying to finish it somewhat quickly. "We still need to find Bomb," she said, her coffee now almost gone. "Where do you think he could be?" She paused for a moment, eyes narrowing. "I swear to god. If he's already hunting, without us, again.... I'll have his damned head." As her coffee was now finished, she squeezed the cup in her hand, crushing it, a few leftover drops of coffee splashing onto her sleeve from the force.

She turned and walked to the car. When she got to it, she realized that not only was it locked but she didn't have the keys. She hit the door with her open palm and stomped back into the coffee house. She held her hand out angrily toward Aidan. "Give me the damn keys, Princess...." She was not in the mood for anything this morning.

Shaylee smiled lightly. "Not you. Adonael is bothered greatly by his past discretions, and when they are brought to his attention, his mood turns for the worse. He will be back." She continued walking through the forest, observing all of the plants and animals roaming about, saying hi whenever she passed one of her faeries. "So, Shaylee, what other supernaturals live in the area?"

She thought about it for a moment, then looked about. "There are the elves, they live in a neighboring village guarded by gatekeepers. A demon walked through here yesterday, I saw a werewolf hunting in another forest. There are plenty here and there, roaming. Unfortunately, it is what draws hunters to us. Thankfully, there have been no spottings yet," she says as she takes a seat on the tree she had crafted. Alistair seems lost in his own thoughts and she waits, putting her head on her palm and resting.

When Alistair comes back, he shakes his head and apologizes. "There are many supernaturals that live here, most I don't even know about." She left out the part about the hunters. Surely that wasn't good conversation.
