The Infection

It started out as a virus, and soon became a disease. Scientists had the infected quarantined, they broke out, now the entire planet is Zombie World. Teenagers will band together and travel to Missouri where there are rumors of a safe house.

Introduction

It was just a virus at first. All you were required to do to get better was get plenty of rest, drink lots of fluids and stay in bed. But that virus turned in to a disease when people started dying. It was known as "Zombieism" due to its zombie like characteristics, the only way to pass it on being through bites, or saliva. The government kept most of it very hush, and barely revealed much about it, until the public got wind of what was really going on behind closed doors. Infected individuals were taken in to custody, and quarantined. And when the dead started to rise, that's when all hell broke loose. The disease was mantained for a short while. But not long enough. There were those who were infected and didn't tell, those who kept it secret in fear of being killed. Some people didn't even know they were infected. Then these "zombies" broke out of more than one facility containing them, and began to walk the Earth. Only a few weeks after the first person was infected, the world is swarming with the undead. A group of teenagers that attend high school together, but don't necessarily like each other, will work together to stay alive, and have no choice but to depend on each other. Zombies evolved, and different "breeds" of them were spread as well. Depending on the infected persons environment, and health, would really depend on what type of zombie they turned in to. There were regular zombies, who attacked, clawed, bit, and tried to eat you, who didn't walk slow like in the movies.. There were smokers, with extremely long tongues that hung down from their mouths, who could wrap their tongue around it's victim to bring that person to them, with muscles in it's tongue that were identicle to arm muscle strength. Boomers, were very large, overweight zombies, who didn't run all that fast, but might be one of the most dangerous types. They vomited a liquid that if spewed on you, could partly blind you for a few moments. Jockeys were smaller zombies, that crawled instead of walking, or running. They crawled fast, jumping on their victims' shoulders and covering their eyes to steer them in to danger.

Chargers were zombies with one extremely large arm, and one extremely small. They would charge in to their victim, ramming in to them, and smash them in to the wall, or on the floor repeatedly, who were more then six feet tall. Spitters were those who could spit acid from their mouths, at far distances, or up close. Hunters could pounce on their victims, able to jump extremely high, whom growled and roared animalistic sounds like lions, tearing and eating at the person they had jumped on, pinning them down. Witches were very strong zombies, not too hard to kill, but very strong. They had very long nails to scratch, and a wide mouth used for biting. You can move by one without alarming them, and they won't bother you unless you bother them. Flashlights anger them, being too close to them, too loud, or shooting them. The sound they make sounds distinctly like a child crying, to draw in their victims. They weep all day and night, unless disturbed, which is when they attack, one hit forcing a person to go down. Tanks were very rare to come across. They are unbelievably large, being seven feet tall, with great strength to pick up cars, or debris to throw at their victim to get them down, smashing their prey, throwing them across lots, and almost impossible to kill. With all of these zombies.. There's really only one question worth asking.

Are you game?

McKenzie Rays slung her backpack over her shoulder as she made her way towards the window in her bedroom. She bit her lip nervously, but let out a deep sigh.
"Just breathe, Ken." She assured herself. "It's gonna be okay." In one hand she held her pistol, the other struggling to open the tightly closed window. And then she realized she had it locked. "Dumbass." McKenzie muttered to herself, placing the gun on the end table as both hands reached up towards the clasp of the sill. She slid the lock open, and then pushed up the window all the way, a rush of fresh cold air running in. She glanced back over at the table and grabbed her gun.
"Showtime." She breathed out, one foot stepping through the window, the rest following after. Jumping out the window, she landed hard on her feet, legs throbbing at the sudden pressure. Taking a moment to glance around at her surroundings, she then carefully began to walk forward. It was so incredibly quiet. She then heard something odd, like a sort of rolling sound, and jumped at the noise, eyes widening. Gun pointed forward, she side stepped out of the alley she'd come out of and jumped out, gun trained on the source of the noise. It was a trashcan laying on its side, rolling back and forth in the wind.
"Damnit." She ran her fingers through her hair and with a sudden force, was thrown across the concrete. She rolled over a few times, knees stinging as blood began to surface from the ripped jeans. Throwing her hair back, she looked over and saw a zombie, blood dripping from it's anxious mouth, drooling. "Disgusting." She felt around for her gun, and then saw it by the zombies feet. "Wonderful." She then heard a sliding sound and before she knew it, a smoker had it's elongated tongue wrapped around her waist. "NO!" She shouted as it pulled her across the concrete and against the brick wall. "LET ME GO!" She tore at it's strong tongue angrily, an then with all her might she ran forward. Feeling a ripping sensation, the zombie from the top of the building released her and she kept running back towards where the other zombie and her gun were currently waiting. McKenzie slid on to her knees, rolling under the zombie, grabbing her gun, then leaning upwards towards where it was looking slightly stunned. It turned to face her, and in one quick motion, a bullet rang out, and the zombie fell to the ground. She stood back up and brushed at the zombie saliva on her shirt.
"Oh, yuck!"

Slowly yet surely John inched his way out of a boarded up home. Food was scarce, and staying in the same spot after the zombies began to mutate was never a good idea. John had always drifted from secured building to secured building. Never getting used to any company, as he hadn't really discovered any other survivors ever since the initial outbreak. No, John was getting used to watching his own back as he krept along the various side streets that lined the city. John had tried to escape during the initial outbreak, but those damned soldiers in HAZMAT suits had quarantined his block. John had been able to get out after the soldiers pulled out of the area; however, his dad wasn't as lucky as him.

Pushing these thoughts from his mind he peeked around a corner, five zombies were clustered around a body. John readied himself, he turned the corner his shot-gun at the ready. He fired at the first one. The spread shot took out two. The other three spun around jittering, and ready to start screaming as they ran at John. He fired two more times, again hitting two birds with one stone, as for the last one John had simply finished him offf with another shot-gun round. John scanned his surroundings for others. When he saw nothing he guessed he should chalk up another point on his lucky side. John slowly approached the body the zombies were feasting on. John quickly caved the dead body's head in with the butt of his shot-gun. A precaution John liked to take before looting a body. He quietly sifted through the dead man's belongings, and discovered an M9 beretta side arm. John gave a ghost of a grin as he slipped the pistol into the front part of the belt on his jeans. With the safety on of course.

John slipped two spare pistol clips he had also recovered from the body into his right pocket. From there John got up, and continued to make his way through ally-ways, and side streets, avoiding zombies whenever possible.

Glass shattered as McKenzie slammed a plank of wood in to a seven eleven shop window. She waited for an alarm to go off and alert the horde, but as luck would have it, the power was out. Climbing over the shards of glass, she climbed through the window, brushing at her clothing. She pulled out her pistol, holding it at the ready. She scoped the store for any living or non-living things ready to pounce. She made her way the backroom, eyes narrowed, heart racing. Stopping in front of the girls restroom, she paused, breath wavery. And then in one quick motion she pushed the swinging door open. No one inside. The female lout out a sigh of relief, shoving her pistol back in her pocket and running back to the main room. This store had already mostly been looted, probably by employees since everything had been locked from the outside. She eyed the empty shelves, skimming for something useful. In the corner she saw a few flashlights hanging from a metal bar.
"Jackpot." She muttered, running over and taking one off the bar. Struggling to open it for a few moments, she ripped the plastic with her teeth and pulled out the flashlight. "Batteries.." She whispered. Grabbing the only pack of batteries left, she quickly loaded the flashlight with two, and put the rest in her backpack. McKenzie flicked on the flashlight, the room now slightly illuminated. On one shelf was a smushed box of snowballs. She'd always thought they were way too sweet, but when the world had turned in to this, there was no room to be picki. She picked up the box and put that in her bag too, now exiting the store cautiously.

John breathed heavily as a screech ripped through the night. He ran through an ally-way the audible clanging of metal was heard as a hooded figure leapt from fire-escapes to air conditioners gaining on John quickly. John continued to run not looking back. Only when John was posotive that the hunter had gained enough ground John spun around with his shotgun ready. Continuing to back up John tripped over a brick. As John fell to the ground he counted his blessings. The hunter sailed inches over him hitting a garbage can with a distinct thunk.

John pushed up from the ground, and fired at the dazed hunter. The beast managed to get half of another scream out before the buck-shot hit him in the head. John rubbed the sweat off of his forehead, and continued to move, other infected individuals would've heard the gun shots. Atleast that was what John thought.

He exited the ally way quickly, and continued to back up once he saw a figure step out of a near by seven eleven. John narrowed his eyes, and slowly left the allyway. His shot-gun was lowered, but he was prepared to fire if he needed to. As John grew closer he could distinctly makeout the figure to be a young woman. She appeared to be uninfected, but John had been fooled before. Johns silent jog came to a stop a reasonable distance away.

Keeping his voice low enough as a safety precaution John spoke. "Hello?" He ventured.

Mckenzie turned the corner as she left the store, hearing some sort of beast scream out. Taking an instinctive jump back, she suddenly heard a gun fire. Pulling out her pistol, she held it in front of herself in defense, eyes twitching back and forth. She slowly moved forwards when she heard someone call out,
"Hello?" She couldn't get herself to speak. The shock froze her to her core.
"Y-Yes! I'm here!" McKenzie ran full speed toward the source of the shout, passing the body of a hooded dead zombie. She shuttered in disgust as she manuevered around the blood and saw a teenage boy standing there. "Holy shit." She said when she saw his face. "John Ambrose?" She immediately recognized him from her school, eyebrows shooting up.

John waited quietly his muscles tensing up as he resisted the urge to run when he heard the patter of feet. The woman had gotten rid of his paranoia that she was a zombie simply by responding in the first place. John simply sucked it up, and watched his own back occaisionally looking back for the young woman. John gave a ghost of a grin when she got close enough to be identified.

"John Ambrose?" Mckenzie immediately recognized him from her school.

"Mckenzie." John too recognized her from school. His eyes were faded from adrenaline still pumping through his veins. He felt slightly downcast when no one was with her. John had almost assumed no one had survived the initial infection. "It's good to see a friendly face." John said slightly relieved.

"There's nothing but those things back there." He motioned at the direction he had arrived in. He pondered on the matter quietly deciding if it would be a harsh question to ask Mckenzie if the way she had came was clear or not. Then again a harsh world required harsh questions. "Was your way clear? If not do you have any ideas? I had origionally planned on walking out of the city, but that thing over by the dumpster makes me want to reconsider." John spoke quickly, while scanning the streets for movement.

McKenzie paused, thinking for a small moment. She turned her head to look back the way she came, it seemed quiet as a mouse where they stood at the moment. "The way I came.. Well, I didn't come too far.. Just finally got the urge to leave my own home." She laughed bitterly, "To answer your question... Maybe. It's hard to tell but I was only attacked twice on my way." It never felt safe, no matter how quiet it could be. She constantly felt a shiver run down her spine, her heart rate picked up at every little ruffle in the wind, and she froze in fear at every sudden movement. She saw things that weren't there, her imagination playing not so nice tricks on her, freaking her out even more than she was.

McKenzie licked dry lips, fear filling her, heart clenching. If his way wasn't clear then.. So many people had died. She knew the infection was bad.. But god, how bad had it gotten in such a short amount of time? She heard a faint low growl in the distance, praying to the gods that it was once again her mind. Pausing to see if John heard the noise, her ears perked up, paying close attention to whatever it could be.

(OOC: Edited my character bio.)

Lance sat on top of the balocony. He wished he hadn't seen what just happened. He shut his eyes and willed the agonising images to go away. He growled at himself for not following orders. He'd would be okay if he had've just followed the others.

"Zoey, Francis, Louis, take care of gramps for me"

He looked around, wishing he had've done what he was told, and that his brother..... He didn't want to think about it.

He dropped down from the ledge and looked around, making sure no zombies were near. He turned the corner and saw something.

"Zombies, I guess I should snipe them"

Lance crouched and brang out his rifle. He also took out his scouter. He got a deadlock on one of the things. It was wearing a green blouse and was holding a gun. He looked up.

"Is that.....Rose?....."

He shook his head, memories coming to him.

(START FLASHBACK - 11:45 AM)

"You know I love you Lance, I'd never do anything to hurt you, I promise on our whole relationship"

"I love you too Rose, if anything happened. I'd never love again I guess"

"You'd better get to class before you get yelled at'

"Heh.. yeah, see ya"

(AT HOME - 1:45 PM)

Lance was early by at least an hour, he wondered how Rose was feeling, being sick and all. He opened to the door and walked upstairs, intending to check on Rose. He paused, hearing a slight creaking sound.

"What the..."

He opened the door, the room was dark, with only a few red candles lit, lusty music playing, but Lance could still see what was happening.

"Oh yeah Matt, do it again! Oh yeaaaahhhh!"

Lance felt nothing, he dropped what he was holding, sending a crash about the room. Rose looked up, shock and fear in her eyes.

(LATER - 2:15 PM)

"You can't leave me Lance! I love YOU! Not MATT!"

"Sure... I hope you got what you wanted"

"But...."

She grabbed hold of Lance's arm, trying to tug him back into the bedroom. She pulled as hard as possible.

Lance turned around and slapped her so hard that she fell to the floor. He pulled out his gun.

"I should really kill you..."

He pulled the trigger a tiny bit, he felt no remorse, but something did click inside of him. He walked over to Rose and put the gun to her head. He pulled the trigger.

BANG

(ROSE'S VIEW - 2:20)

Rose opened her eyes to find the gun wasn't even aimed at her.

"You don't deserve to be killed by me" said Lance.

"......" Rose just looked at him with a puzzled expression on her face. He then stood, muttered something, theen hit her with the butt of the gun, knocking her unconscious.

(END FLASHBCK)

Lance steadied his aim, wondering if he should only incapacitate, or kill them. He decided to go for incapacitation, he snuck closer, both of them had their backs to him. He aimed and shot one, the bullet hit its leg directly, he rushed at the other, hiding in the shadows, and got his knife it its neck, one hand holding its head so it couldn't bite him.

"It's amazing how much you remind me of her, whoever you are....."

((Sorry I haven't posted. Didn't realize this was still going. :P))

Kaylee sighed as she shifted positions to wake her legs back up, having been perched on the springy shop awning for quite a while. There had been a lot of Zombie activity in this area so far and she was determined to get out of it. Seeing no more Zombies coming down the road, Kaylee took a deep breath, adjusted her backpack's position, and slid off the awning, making a break for it down the street. Within minutes she was down a block or two and stopped, panting, because she heard a gunfire.

"Since when do They carry guns? Or shoot them?" Her mumbled questions went unanswered by the silence that followed.

Trying to ignore the cramp in her side, Kaylee began jogging toward the source of the noise, pausing to peek around a corner. Ahead, she saw someone shot in the leg and someone holding something to a girl's neck. As she moved, Kaylee saw a glint off the object being held to the girl's neck and realized it was a knife.

"Wait!" Kaylee wasn't being quiet anymore, but she clung to the wall, something she hadn't seen any zombies do as of yet, "I don't think they're infected!"

After a moment's hesitation, she stepped out into the more open street where the other three were and her hazel eyes widened with slight shock.

"Lance?" She recognized him from some of her classes at school, being in the same grade as him, "What's going on? Where is everybody?" She already knew the answers to these questions, but for some reason she felt that she should ask them.

Given that we don't exactly know WHERE in Missouri where heading, I have it dead center. We can ponder that at the "Welcome to Missouri" sign :D

Sounds good to me. I'm not farmiliar with area either, I'm a New Yorker.

Yes, all of the zombies from both left 4 dead 1, and the sequel.

We start off in Unionville, Pennsylvania. And are headed to Missouri. And it really depends on what town your in, some are crazier then others, depending on the original population. It could be really quiet at one moment, then swarming with them attacking you the next. It'll be more so wild then quiet, but as I said, some areas are worse than others.
