Nine in the Afternoon - Kids
Memories fade, like looking through a fogged mirror
Decision to decisions are made and not bought
But I thought,
this wouldn't hurt a lot.
I guess not.

"An adventure? What adventure?"
Even though Wynston is pretty familiar with all of his surroundings, he doesn't have a very good memory. Sometimes he forgets things he doesn't think are very important at the moment, or perhaps even forces it out of his mind. Say for example, a good friends birthday. If it's not for a few months, he's going to forget it. And where he buries his secret treasure? Makes him wish he had made a map to go along with it. If he's already told everyone in the village a joke, he's probably going to tell it again.
Wynston Baines lived in a cottage on the right side of Bregar with his Mother, Ms. Angela Baines, ever since he was brought into this world. They had a great view of the high walls that mostly shadowed their little home during the day, and even still, the small family never quite questioned it's existence. To distract Wynston from the outside world, Ms. Angela spoiled her son rotten with love, attention, and was the first to show him how wonderful a good laugh could be.
Oh, it must have started out with the trees.. Yes, the trees. Wynston was six when he made friends with the boy next door. His name was Joshua, and his favorite activity was being an acrobat. Every afternoon, they'd spend the day trying to climb to the top of each tree branch in Bregar. "Look ma, I'm a Jojo!" Wynston and Joshua would laugh one day, hanging from a very weak branch. Joshua was so clever with his jokes, Wynston thought. He'd try to be more like that. Wynston can't really remember the rest of that day very well, unfortunately. All he remembers now is that that was the last day he ever got to play with Joshua.
Wynston's trouble didn't start until he was in school. By the time he was 11, he realized he never really enjoyed spelling tests, math problems, or class projects. Wynston would try his best sometimes and barely get anything right, and that just didn't settle well with him. A student named Josh would always point those facts out to him, almost brainwashing Wynston to believe he was just as bad as he said. But Wynston quickly changed that. He started telling his own made up jokes, and in the beginning, they were pretty good. He quickly became the class clown and Josh's friend again. Those his grades still weren't the best, Wynston was still the happiest kid in school.
For two years now, Wynston's been telling the same jokes over and over again. He's still the happiest kid in school, but not the most popular now. His curiosity for the outside world has never grown so high in so little of a time. And at the same time, the elder's interests have never grown so high for the boy in so little of a time. At nights, he sneaks out to climb to the top of his roof, trying to catch a glimpse of the world. Only once was enough for him to get caught, and only once was enough to change his fate forever.
