Eli tends to dress in loose-fitting, masculine clothes. They tend to keep to more neutral colours to blend into their surroundings better, but since becoming part of a group and feeling more secure in their situation, they've begun to branch out into colour as they start to feel safer. [x]

G E A R
Their only weapon is a katana that they found while escaping. Besides that, they carry a small bag which has a handful of supplies and a few trinkets they've found along the way.

Some kids adapted well to the chaos they were born in. Eli was not one of them, even before their parents were killed. They've always been short-tempered and easily irritable, and they were always grumpy over something. They never felt that they belonged anywhere, even among their family. They loved their family desperately but never knew how to show it until it was too late. And it feels that way with everyone in their lives. Eli doesn't know how to show affection properly, and sometimes, they make things worse instead of better. And it's something that only worsened with time. Seeing their parents murdered in front of them by raiders only served to worsen Eli's anger at the world. And then, almost two years with the Rattlers drove them to become practically feral. As far as they were concerned, the only good people in the world had been their parents, and they were gone.

Deep down, Eli is still that scared kid. But fear was punishable. Emotion was punishable. Being a kid was punishable. There's so much trauma packed into such a tiny body, and anger is the only way Eli knows how to process that. Being shown kindness terrifies Eli. They'd protect their small group until their dying breath, but they're also still waiting for one of them to turn around and hurt them or betray them. All they want is for someone to just look after them, and they don't trust anyone to look after them. They're trying to figure out the world and their part in it, still trying to figure out who they are, in a world that has only shown them cruelty and brutality. All they want is to be something close to normal, even if they know that it's impossible in the world they're in.

H I S T O R Y
Eli was far from the easiest child. Notoriously grumpy and moody, it often seemed that the only person capable of drawing even the slightest smile out of them was their mother. They were prone to arguing with their parents, but there was a clear, if unspoken, love between them. Their mother knew how to deal with them, though, and they made it through.

Eli was thirteen when their settlement was attacked by raiders. Eli and their family ran. The raiders caught up with their father first and shot him at point blank range, in front of Eli. They stayed running, and they almost made it out. Almost. Eli's mother had her throat slashed in front of Eli. Eli ran and stayed running, managing to get away with some of the others. But a group of kids in the wastelands were never going to last long. They were picked up by Rattlers.

They all tried to escape. Of course they did. The things that they saw, the things that they had done to them... dying in the process of escaping seemed like a far more preferable end. Except their captors were careful never to kill any of them, always bringing any attempted escapees back alive. Eli tried escaping twice. Once, they had their arm broken and were expected to continue using it until it healed. The second time, they were knocked out. It felt like things were only going to get worse. Things were only getting worse as they got older. And eventually, they decided that they had to escape, even if it led to their death. They were going to escape this, no matter what. And they managed to get away through sheer determination.

They ran into Ruben Bell by chance a few months after escaping. They were on the verge of madness. When he saw their injuries, he offered help. They tried to attack him, and very nearly succeeded. But something made them stop. He patched them up and offered some of his few supplies. The kindness he and the rest of his group showed them took them aback, and they decided to stick around. After all, they didn't have much else to search for.
