Most of what they were able to pack away in their haste to leave was more on the side of casual wear, jeans, t-shirts, a few jackets and coats, though the tactical gear they'd grabbed was more sporadic. Jen had prioritized medical supplies in her own bag over variety of clothing, though everything she has is functional and comfortable.

A steady hand in most stressful situations, Jen OāConnell is today mostly known for her calm steadying presence, and whip quick sense of dry humor. In her younger years, she was more of a rule breaker, often eliciting comparisons to her niece Charlie from those who knew her back then. Smart, and typically rebellious with little adult oversight, Jen in her day had been quite the handful. Age and responsibility has tempered those instincts into something more productive, though most people on Echo base knew better than to give the surgeon reason to focus any negative attention their way, as Jen has been known to be quite creative when given reason to be petty.
As a caretaker, Jen is competent, protective, and extremely loyal. While her confidence level in her skills as a āmomā arenāt particularly high, especially when compared to the sainted shadow of her older sister, no one can fault Jen for lack of effort. Creative in a pinch, and performing surprisingly well under pressure, Jen was a talented field medic when the situation called for it, and gained a reputation as a go-to surgeon for critical cases at Echo Base. Her personal life though, was a bit more of a mess, most of her affairs being more casual in nature. Part of this was to do with her well known past connection to Brack Carrow, and man no one sane on Echo base wanted to get on the bad side of, but also her own commitment to work and the little family she was already responsible for. Now that theyāre out in the wilds, free but on their own, her focus is much more single mindedly on survival, and figuring out a viable long term strategy for their little family. So far, the prognosis isnāt looking great.

H I S T O R Y
Jen was eleven when the world ended. Old enough to remember what things were like before, but too young to think on it as more than a far off dream. Childhood cut short, Jen grew up in a world of instability. The military rule, and their harsh crackdowns on any dissent, killed her parents, and her older sister Leah, a passionate believer in the resistance, was an early joiner of the WLF which fought for its end. Itās where Leah met the man who would become her husband, Thomas Creed, further entrenching their little family in the WLFās cause. At the time of the worst fighting, Jen was still considered too young to really be on the front, a fact she had not appreciated at the time, but she honed some useful skills elsewhere working in the makeshift field hospital the WLF had set up for their fighters. Jen soon realized she had a knack for the work, and with many other recruits, both older and younger, began training in earnest under the few real doctors they had. When the war with FEDRA finally came to an end, Jen was a young adult, and even sheād seen combat at that point. Sheād also taken on a new role as āauntieā. Refusing to be separated, the little family was transferred together to Echo Base, a mostly civilian facility on the more remote East side of the city. It was more isolated from the stadium than many battalions, being farther out from the city proper, which required a certain amount of self sufficiency. Doctors and engineers like Thomas were in short supply, and were restricted from leaving the base in most cases, a fact that hadnāt bothered Jen too much besides the principal of the thing. At first.
The first major turn in their lives at Echo Base was Leahās death. She had been a senior field commander, and mother of two at the time, and her untimely death, though an understood part of life for soldiers in the field, rocked their world to the foundations. Jenās life shifted focus, trying to help her brother-in-law cope, keep her own grief in check, and try to step up to the plate in a caretaker role for her niece and nephew. Things in leadership also changed. Brock Carrow became their base commander, a man Jen had been extremely close with as kids, cadets really, back in the war days. Their rekindled...familiarity had originally been a welcome change in the wake of everything else that had happened, but it soon became apparent that the man Jen had once known and trusted had changed dramatically in the years theyād been apart. While issues with corruption at Echo Base didnāt originate with him, Brockās leadership role and style of management greatly accelerated it. Food rations and necessities suddenly became a commodity doled out at the whims of the COās, and a culture of quid pro quo and extorted favoritism erupted on base. It was a toxic environment that unraveled for years, with public beatings and even torture of their own used in the face of any challenge to this new order. Their family threading a very fine and delicate line to survive. Movement in and out of Echo Base became even tighter, with non operation travel off base suddenly requiring direct approval from the base commander. Jenās leave requests in particular were never approved. Thomas was granted leave once, using some of his old connections to visit the stadium base, maybe arrange for a transfer and let leadership know what was going on. Their response was pointed silence. What was going on at Echo Base might have been an extreme case, but the Upper Brass was not only aware of it, they frankly didnāt care, especially when the worst abuses were targeted at civilians. It was a realization that left Jen and Thomas reeling, as the tried to reconcile this reality with the cause theyād helped fight for years ago. Even then, bonds of loyalty are hard to break, and it wasnāt until Ryanās assault, and the extent of the abuse heās suffered from his CO came to light, that the last of those bonds severed for good. When Thomas found out, he was furious, and made reckless because of it. He confronted Brock, who in turn, had him publicly executed to send a firm message. It was the catalyst that sparked their escape. Using every dirty trick in Jenās extensive book, she, her friend Ruben, and the remnants of her small family managed to create enough chaos on base to slip out with gear and equipment, officially defecting from the WLF. That was a year ago.
