The areas surrounding each QZ were bombed to hell and back as part of some half-baked tactic to wipe out the infected in those areas, and clean up the stragglers after the fact. However, as quickly as they were wiping out the infected, more were springing up in their place. It was a losing battle, and one that FEDRA quickly abandoned. Instead, they focused on bolstering their numbers. Civilians were given work orders both inside and outside of the QZ, although a lot of them were conscripted into the military. They set up boarding schools, wherein young children were often forced to attend and receive military training. It was ultimately FEDRA's authoritarian control over their civilian populations that resulted in violent uprisings throughout major cities like Seattle and Boston, and the forming of militant groups that warred with FEDRA for control of those QZs. The rebels rarely won out in the end, though.
When an infected person dies, their bodies begin releasing spores. This means that spores are typically only found in areas with low human activity, wherein the infected will often die before they reach stages 3-4 of their mutation. You wonβt encounter them very often in the woodlands, out in fields or on the road, or outside of buildings, unless a few stragglers have wandered through an open door or they'd succumbed to the infection there. As such, cities and towns are an especially dangerous place to reside.
After a long and arduous war between FEDRA and a large militant group known as the WLF, or Washington Liberation Front, the latter successfully pushed FEDRA out of the city and absorbed a large percentage of its QZ civilians into their own numbers; largely against their will, and going against former promises of liberation. For a while, they revelled in their victory, but it was not to last. In the midst of that war, the Seraphites were formed; a religious cult of primitivist luddites who followed the teachings of a woman known as the Prophet. She had capitalised on this conflict and managed to rally a massive amount of support from civilians who simply sought an alternative to their discouraging choice between one fascist group or another.
Growing tensions between the WLF and Seraphites peaked when the cult bombed a WLF supply unit. The war between these two factions began from there, with escalating violence. Many captured combatants were tortured and executed on both sides, with the factions facing substantial casualties. Eventually, in the year 2030, a ceasefire was drafted wherein the two groups agreed to (somewhat) peacefully co-exist, provided the Seraphites remained mostly in their secluded island community and did not interfere with WLF activity in the city. This treaty has held, albeit shakily, for the past four years, but there are many among the Seraphites (especially the Elders) who are not satisfied with the restrictions placed upon their faction. Coupled with growing paranoia from the WLF that the Seraphites are planning to strike again, there is no telling which group (if either) will trigger the abolition of the treaty.
Side note: Those of you who have played TLOU2 may already know that prior the events of the game, the peace treaty has already been broken and the Seraphites are once again actively at war with the WLF. However, in this role-play, that has not yet happened.
As it stands, our story follows numerous survivorsβsome travelling alone, some in groupsβas they attempt to navigate the hellscape that is Seattle.

2. Activity β Would probably chalk this up as our biggest concern at the moment, with ghosting and unreliability being a huge on-site problem. I'll accept any interest in this role-play but for the sake of not disrupting the story too heavily when a player decides they're unwilling or unable to participate, I'll warn new joiners ahead of time. If you fall inactive with no notice for couple of weeks or more, I'll attempt to make contact with you. You then have one week from that point of contact to respond. Failure to do so will result in another attempt to make contact, and you'll then be given a further 24 hours before action is taken. If you consistently fail to answer, I will (as the GM) take control of your character long enough to write them out of the story in a way that feels natural and non-disruptive; ideally leaving room for you to return later, depending on the circumstances surrounding your disappearance.
3. Communication & Resources β We will be a utilising a couple of off-site resources for this role-play, which will pretty much exclusively involve the use of a Discord server (for plotting, relations, and general talk) and Google Docs. It would be ideal, but is in no way mandatory, for new joiners to participate in server discussion, and for players with knowledge of the TLOU universe to at least read through the provided Google Docs to keep track of any lore change we might've made. However, given the nature of the role-play, it's also possible for people to simply throw their characters into the mix and allow things to progress naturally, learning as they go. That's really up to you. I will be throwing up a brief summary of the factions and infection lore in the OOC thread.
