HEIGHT - 5'8

BUILD - Lean

HAIR - A nice hazelnut brown. In certain lights it looks reddish.

EYES - Dark blue

MARKINGS - He has a tattoo of a shard cross on his left hand.

OTHER - Adair has various small cuts on his body that he obtained when he fell in shards of glass. They are not visible until someone actually comes closer to look at his body since the cuts have healed leaving only light scars. These are centered on his hands and knees though he has a couple on his face and arms. Adair also has a tattoo on his right hand in a jagged shape of cross, the sharpness indicating the edges of a broken mirror. He also wears a piece of the original mirror in his room that broke when he and his father got into a fight over his delusion. He never takes it off and as a result, has minor cuts on his chest when the glass edge happens to slide over his skin. Adair does believe that his real 'self' is in the mirror and since the original mirror is broken, the broken shard is the last piece of his 'soul'. When confronted with a mirror, he thinks that the real him is in the mirror and the 'gate keeper' him is outside the mirror and he will talk to himself. Those mirrors are not what holds his soul however so the single shard is far more important than other mirrors he will come in contact with. [/

PERSONALITY

Flamboyant / Inappropriate / Friendly / Reserved

There are two main sides of Adair. Adair himself is a shy person and would much rather be by himself. He doesn't like interacting with people because he is quite awful at it. He doesn't understand everyone's emotions and is unsure how to react to them himself. Sometimes this leads him to react in a way that makes sense to him but should not be applied to the current situation. For example, he could start laughing about something at a funeral when the correct response should be solemnity. He also has issues accepting that reality is truly reality so he distances himself from the situation trying to decipher what is really real and what he is sensing since what he sees and what he feels doesn't always match up.

Adair is not confrontational and would much prefer to be off in a corner somewhere in his own world painting or sketching. This activity helps him get out any emotion that is overwhelming him and it gives him an outlet to truly speak and express what is going on internally. He does hear soft whispers in the background that he believes are the whispers of other souls lost in this realm that can't be heard unless your own soul is split. They don't shut up and sometimes distract him from other conversations and he looks rather disinterested in the current situation though really, he is lost and is having difficulty concentrating.

Adair is also very sweet and doesn't want to cause any problems with anyone. He likes to be alone simple because he doesn't want to bother people and make their lives too hard. He doesn't want to be an inconvenience and he knows that all of his issues puts a strain on himself and everyone who wants to get close to him. It makes things very lonely for Adair and he finds that paintings and mirrors are the only things he can express himself with.

There is a complete other side to him however; the Gate Keeper. The Gate Keeper personality comes out on occasion when he is overwhelmed and stressed or he can't deal with a situation happening in front of him. Unfortunately, the Gate Keeper has been a lot more active in the asylum and is generally the personality most people see. Adair uses the Gate Keeper as a shield mostly. It is safer to be the Gate Keeper even if he forfeits his body to this 'other' entity.

The Gate Keeper, or rather Roland, is the complete opposite of Adair. Roland has no qualms about being overly close to people and often flirts with others or drapes himself on them. Like Adair, he is inappropriate considering he still doesn't know how to deal with people very well. Roland can be clingy, loud, and fun-loving, always wanting attention and to play games. Roland also loves to speak in riddles to confuse people though some doctors speculate if that is really the case or just disorganized speech that accompanies his diagnosis of schizophrenia. If he comes out because Adair is threatened however, Roland is volatile and do whatever it takes to protect Adair though he isn't very good at planning ahead. He just reacts to the situation making him look rather disorganized in his actions.

Though there are these two sides to Adair, there aren't two people inside his body. Roland and Adair are one person but one is more of a defense mechanism that arose from his delusions to better protect himself and make sense of the world that really doesn't make sense to him. An added cause of this split is the fact that he doesn't know how to integrate his personalities so his brain has completely divided these two sides. Adair does not remember the stressful event that forces him to become Roland, further making him believe that 'Adair' gets locked away in the mirror when the Gate Keeper comes out to play.

DISORDERS

โ–ท Schizophrenia - Adair has Schizophrenia which leads him to experience voices in the back of his mind. When overly tired or stressed, these voices seem to grow louder. Secondly, he has the positive symptom of delusions, the main one being that his soul is trapped in a mirror. He has disorganized speaking patterns and inappropriate emotional behaviors in certain contexts and generally wishes to be alone. One of the more noticeable negative symptom he has is speaking very little as 'Adair' and not making eye contact.

โ–ท Multiple personality disorder - Born from his delusions and the inability to consolidate the different sides of him, Adair believe that he has two personalities. There is his regular Adair personality and then the 'other entity' Roland who he uses as a shield. Both of these sides see the world differently and interact with others in a variety of ways. When Roland appears, Adair doesn't seem to remember what event pushed him into the mirror. Roland however has complete recollection of both their histories.

โ–ท Co-morbid OCD- Because Adair has problems discerning what is reality and what isn't sometimes, he has developed Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and has to have everything a certain way. If any of his things are moved around, he freaks out and wonders if the items are really moved or if he is hallucinating. He becomes quite frustrated and may refuse to do anything else until order is restored. He could spend hours organizing his things. He double checks his placements frequently throughout the day.

โ–ท Co-morbid Dyslexia- Due to his disorganized speaking, he has difficulty reading and writing. His thoughts and words get jumbled in his head sometimes so expressing himself verbally can be a challenge. It is one thing he has worked on considerably and usually can speak all right in most conversations until he is exhausted which leads him to make many more mistakes. He detests writing and reading since the activity is a challenge and leads him to get tired quickly. Once he slips into Roland, his speech gets worse since he then starts talking in rhymes and riddles that make sense to him and not so much to other people.

STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES

โ–ทConfusing people - Due to his disorganized thoughts and the riddles he likes to use, he can confuse people quite easily or get them off topic as a diversion.
โ–ทProtecting himself - No, he can't fight well but as Raymond he can keep people from hurting his 'real self' and block out events that threaten him.
โ–ทTwo perspectives- Since he has split is personality into two, he has the ability to see the world in two very completely different ways. If you really need an opinion on something, you can always ask Adair and then try and get Raymond out to ask him to. Granted... that would require you to understand his answer.
โ–ทPainting - Adair is very good at painting and sketching things and can often put his thoughts and feelings into this much more easily in this rather than words. If he could just communicate with people via drawing, he wouldn't ever speak.

โ–ทMirror necklace - Adair honestly believes that his 'real' soul is locked away inside the mirror so he will do anything to protect that last piece of the mirror. If it were stolen he will completely freak out.
โ–ทCommunication - Speaking, writing, and reading, are a bit challenging for Adair. This is a problem he had worked on a lot so as Adair, he is mostly understandable and doesn't mess up in his speaking unless he is very tired and sleepy. As Raymond however, you'll have to decipher his riddles to get anything out of him.
โ–ทInappropriate - As both Adair and Raymond, he reacts to social situations oddly and sometimes confuses what he is supposed to do which can put people off. Also, as Raymond, he is also very touchy and clingy.
โ–ทLonely - Adair finds that though he prefers to be alone so he doesn't mess up in social situations or make people hate him, he wants to be close to people. He feels very lonely and wants to connect with someone outside of himself but at the moment, he is too preoccupied with trying to find a way out of the mirror.

HISTORY

Adair had a normal life at first. He was the only child in his family so his parents dotted on his every need. He was happy then. Unfortunately, Adair's schizophrenia began to surface around age 8. He had imaginary friends but he truly believed he was talking to other people and he didn't much like being near mirrors. Mirrors always made him nervous and he didn't like looking at his reflection. He kept feeling like the mirror would steal his soul. This also leads him to have an aversion to pictures. Then the voices started. His parents just thought he was going through a phase so they didn't think much of it at the time. Things only got worse from there.

Throughout school, Adair had reading, writing, and speaking problems. He was even forced to take speech classes to try and help him improve but it was very difficult for Adair and led to some break downs. For a long while, Adair wondered if he was stupid when the rest of his classmates surpassed him easily. It made things rather lonely for him and his parents didn't much help him with his self image. They couldn't understand why he was having so much difficulty with a task they considered easy. Adair didn't give up though and he practiced as much as he could to try and improve. Sadly, he still has those problems but speaking does come much easier now.

Adair began to firmly believe that his real self was in the full-body sized mirror that resided in his room around 13. He'd take precautions to keep the mirror safe and often covered it so his soul wouldn't slip into it when he slept. It got to the point that he wanted to be near the mirror always. When his parents confronted him and tried to get him away, they began to notice that his personality would change and he'd become much more volatile and physical. Later, Adair would forget the event had happened. Increasingly, Adair became frustrated and unreasonable with the placement of the things in the house. It got to the point that there really was no talking to the young man. He was stubbornly set in his ways and no matter how much his parents tried to reason with him, he refused to believe that his mirror was just showing his reflection.

Around the age of 19, Adair began to refuse leaving his room. He felt like the mirror wasn't safe and the mirror dominated his thinking throughout the day. He was anxious when apart from it and he wanted nothing more than to be next to it to ensure his soul was okay. This started a rather large argument with his father. This argument... did not end well. In a final attempt to rid his son of his childish superstition, the man took a chair and shattered the mirror. Adair lost it and dropped to the mirror shards sobbing and panicking that his soul would be lost. He managed to cut himself in the glass as he scrambled around in the mess. His father proceeded to try and drag him away and Adair managed to grab a piece and hide it from his father who managed to restrain him and drag him to the asylum to get help. There was no denying that Adair was truly disturbed and needed to get help quickly if he was ever going to recover from his delusion.

Due to the trauma he experienced with the mirror shattering, Adair doesn't actually remember the entirety of the event. He does believe that he is still in the mirror and the one shard he still has on him is his last link to it. Adair often slips into his Raymond persona now to try and protect himself from others.
