Valar Karackson

A wanderer bound only by his own moral code.

0 · 158 views · located in The Crag rock island

a character in “The land of Riders.”, originally authored by Legate, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Eyes: Blue
Hair: Blonde
Height 6'5"
Weight 210 pounds

Approximate age 25

Standing six foot five and weighing in at two hundred and ten pounds this is truly a giant of a man. There are those who would look at such a man, hear his accented speech and judge him merely a brute and incapable of wit or finesse. These same men would fail to notice the keen look in his blue eyes, or the grace and coordination of his movements. Two intelligent blue eyes look out over a nose that has clearly been broken at least once. His shaggy blonde hair is kept long in the back but twisted into two short leather bound braids at the front that hang midway down his face. His beard is the classic wild man, bushy and down almost to his collar bone. Underneath the hair, and around the eyes, ritual tatoos adorn his face.

Born of the freezing tundras and mountains of the North his upbringing was at best harsh. At it's worst, it was unforgiving, dangerous and sometimes nearly lethal. When not in danger of dying of exposure to the elements he had to be on the lookout to fend off attacks from wild animals, and other denizens of the north who would do him and his harm. To this end he carries an enormous longbow almost as tall as himself as well as a large double headed axe and two dragon claw long knives. An experienced outdoorsman he can hunt, trap, and generally fend for himself. He carries his own supplies and shelter but can easily create what he needs from the land around him. Having been on his own for so long he lacks many of the refinements that characterize those brought up in civilization. He tends to be taciturn and a man of little patience with others.

Dislikes: Needless chatter, frivolity, weakness, people who try and take advantage of him. dishonesty, disloyalty, surrendering/giving up

Likes: Solitude, Functional equipment and dress, hunting, the stars and northern lights, Alcohol (whiskey/scotch/vodka/beer) weapons,

His family and clan were slaughtered by raiders, the leader of whom rode a cruel one eyed red dragon. He survived and managed to gather supplies from the remnants of his tribes possesions including his fathers axe, Harvarth. Gathering his bow his axe and some armour and supplies he headed off after this group of bandit. 4 years he spent tracking them picking them off slowly when he could find them. Eventually he located one of their camps. After eating the mushrooms that would send him into a berserker blood rage he tore through the camp. Blood and fire reigned that night as he eventually came upon and slew the dragon and it's master that had killed his people. After making armour from the dragons scales and 2 daggers out of the longest of its claws he left into the wild. Eventually he was tracked down by the brother of the bandit he had slain and though he escaped with his life he was injured and his wounds began to fester.

So begins...

He stumbled through the forest, feverish and in pain, his leg sending flares of agony with every step. His wounds were infected, gone septic this he knew. He would die of his wounds, he accepted this fate. He had avenged his people, there was nothing more for him to do. But this forest was so THICK, it blocked the light, denied him his last glimpse of the sun. SO different from the vast open reaches of his homeland. So he staggered on, alone in his own personal world of pain. He must reach the sun,

Eventually he staggered through a particularly dense bush and out on to an escarpment. He collapsed to his knees and felt the sun warm his shoulders. This is it he thought, this is how I should die. Then he saw the dragon. Suddenly in his fevered state he was back fighting the dragon that killed his people. Only this one was blue. Adrenaline lifted him to his feet ad gave him the strength to draw his great double headed axe as he charged the dragon yelling battle cries, only to trip. As he went down sprawling on the top of the cliff he finally lost consciousness and fell blessedly into oblivion

Carla looked back towards the cliff in surprise when she heard the sound of a battle cry, noticing some man ran towards Light and try to attack him she watched in horror as he fell towards the cool waves crashing against the bass of the cliff.

Diving down, Carla made her way over to were she head the splash as fast as she could in hopes of saving the man from drowning. Spotting him slowly sinking she found herself glad that the water wasnt to deep however she noticed in dismay that she probably would be able to pull the man to the surface.

Quickly swimming upward she resurfaced and looked up at the Sky Hearthen who peaked over the edge at her curiously, "Light! Get down here! I need you to get this man out of the water!" She cried in distress before swimming back down, knowing that her dragon would follow her.

Sure enough she heard another splash a few seconds later and than she saw Light swimming down underneath the man, Carla followed down and pulled the man through the water onto the dragons back, once he was on she also took a seat and held onto Light and the man tightly as light pushed himself off the ocean floor.

Breaking free from the oceans cold grip, Carla spotted the boat and quicky directed light to head towards it. She was on doctor and the man might of taken to much water to the lungs, she couldn't let him die. As they got closer she glanced down at the man and gasped in shock at his wounds that were now visible in the light of the sun. They needed that doctor and fast.

Light quickly arrived at the boat, circled once and than dropped himself down onto the deck. Carla jumped off his back and looked at the group of men on the boat, "I have a man here who is badly injured and almost drowned, I need help!" She said desperately, looking each man in the eye, begging them silently to help her.

I took one look at the man and whistled to Zabata who like all nature dragons was good at healing. I started trying to help the man doing cpr while telling the pirates to grab supplies. "So Carla do you look for trouble our does it find you?"

Glancing up in surprise when she saw Ceralis, she grinned. "I do seem to have a tendency to attract it like bears to honey." She took a seat next to Ceralis as he began to give the man CPR. "Will he be okay?" She asked in concern as she saw the man didnt seem to be breathing, maybe she had gotten to him to late!
"He fell of the cliffs where I was swimming but I couldn't get him out of the water by myself so I had to call Light, do you think there is too much water in his lungs? And those wounds!" Carla was worried for the man, she didnt know him but she had always had a kind heart and a tendency to worry about people who were hurt. Light, noticing her distress, crept closer and nudged her shoulder comfortingly, "He has a Nature dragon healing him, he will be fine." He said before turning a suspicious eye to the men on deck.
"That's good! Oh Ceralis, why are you on this ship? Are you a merchant..." She froze as she glanced around the ship, noticing that she was wrong, a small black flag with skulls was attached to the main mast and blew gently in the wind. "Or a pirate..."

"Oh I'm busy trying to get a free ride and their captain kinda lent me the ship for a journey to the mainland." I gave the dragon a glare before going back to my work but the serpent burst from the water behind us. I waved at it and Zabata started back on the attack. I focused energy into my hands and a blue mist formed on my hands healing the man's wounds on touch. "Bet your dragon hasn't taught you how to manipulate lightning yet has he?" I finished with the man and stood up to aim my bow at the serpent's eye before shooting it in the eyes.

Carla glance back at Light when he snorted, "No, he hasn't. I do know a few things that I literally had to beg for but Lights a bit protective of anything and everything that he considers his 'Property', it's probably why he is so arrogent." She watched as Ceralis shot an arrow at a giant sea serpent, she had seen them before and wasnt all that surprise that it had attacked the ship though she was impressed on how fast Ceralis seemed to be getting rid of it.
Leaning over the unconscious man, she gently gave the mans shoulders a shake to try and wake him up and ensure that he was okay. "Hay, wake up mister, it's time to wake up." She whispered softly as she shook the man.

As he came to Valar noticed a small female kneeling over him she seemed surprised as his eyes snapped open. His eyes widened as they looked passed her head and took in the 2 dragons and the other man standing there. Quickly rolling backwards over his head on to his knees he tried to stand only to have his leg give out on him. Nearly passing out again he let out a torrent of curses in the language of his home. He wouldn't be able to use his axe from here so he dropped it and drew one of his dragon claw long knives and kept it between him and the company of people. He quickly looked around and realized he was surrounded. Still on one knee he drew a second longknife and kept it pointed at the crowd

No one moved, so in heavily accented common he spoke "What this place" as he gestured around with one of his knives.

"That is very bad language then again that's a dead language." I said in the man's language but I was a little rusty. I shot the serpent again and Zabata came back landing on my shoulder. I waved the pirates back to work so the ship would be ready to set sail. "So Carla i'm leaving for the mainland you and light are welcome to come." I pulled out some dried meat and tossed it to the floor next to Light.

The mans accent was appalling. However he had understood, a shock in and of itself.

Valar gave him a feral grin as he pointed his knife at the man. "Not dead little man. I live" he jerked his thumb at himself for emphasis.

If it came to a fight he would die but his knives could take out a couple people if he threw them, after that he had just his axe for he could not string his bow in this condition

"Oh ya that sounds great! I have been looking for a way to get off this island!" Carla said in enthusiasm, before glancing at Light when Ceralis threw him some food which he proceeded to glare at, making her send him a glare of her own. "I swear Light, if you don't eat that food I will kick you ass to the ninth gate of hell!" She growled out in frustration at the dragon before proceeding to have a glare of, which she won as Light went to pick up the food.
Proud of herself she turned back to the man who stood in a defensive posture. "Hi, my names Carla. You fell of those cliffs back there and were drowning so me and Light helped you out. Are you feeling any better?" She asked, sending him a smile while holding her hands up in surrender to show she had no weapons, it never crossing her mind that he might be scared of the dragons as none had ever attacked her and her village.

"I helped your people in a war a few years back but got news my home was endangered and now I'm going to crush my enemies after I locate them." I said to the man in his language but a better form to it as it came back to me. I walked to the top of the ship and looked around at the pirates working. "Also I helped save your life so technically you owe me and Carla besides if I wanted you dead why would I have healed you in the first place?" I looked at the man and shook my head and had a hand on my arrows the other held my bow. "I think you have a bad sense of judgement not all riders try to kill people in fact I find it quite distasteful." A pirate walked up to me and whispered in my ear and I smacked him so hard he fell down and bled. "How dare you think I brought her on board for you and your friends she will not be touched by any of you or even looked at or her dragon can eat you I care not for you and your kind animals all of ya." I kicked him down the stairs and he landed on the deck bleeding and angry.

He looked suspiciously at her. "You, you work with Dragon?" he said incredulously "He not eat you?" he lowered his weapons but they remained in his hands. "Hmph, too small, why he let you control him" His vision started to tunnel, he looked down to see the septic wound in his leg had reopened.

"Ah shab" he swore as he passed out again

She heard Light growl slightly at the passed out man before grumbling slightly to himself, "She doesn't control me, I just let her ride me because I want to!" Carla sent him a cheeky grin before walking of to Ceralis.

"He passed out again. And should you really be kicking these men around, what if they have revolt!" She was only joking of course, only an idiot would think of taking on a man who had a dragon as a friend.

"So why are you heading for the mainlands than 'Captain'?" She asked as she stared off into the horizon. Maybe she was being a bit rash right now, after all she had no cloths or anything except the stuff on her back and yet she could not bring herself to care, the sea breeze felt good against her skin and the sunset only thrilled her more as they slowly made their way out of the docks.

I have her a small smile. "I need to find a place to settle down." I walked down next to the man. "Get me rope and help me carry this man to a bed." I tired the man up so he couldn't move and set all of his weapons on a shelf in the captain's room before trying tio heal the guy again.

Carla giggled as she watched Ceralis tie up the man, "He's not going to be to happy when he wakes up, you know that right?" She commented as she followed the two men into the captains cabin, sending Light a warning glance over her shoulder before entering the dim room.

Ceralis had put the mans weapons out of reach and resumed the healing, "He must be pretty crazy if he moved around that much after being so badly injured as well as having nearly drowned, that or he just has a warriors instinct, I say the second seeing as he has so many weapons." Carla pondered out loud as she took a seat next to the mans bed and watched as Ceralis worked

"Ceralis..." She found herself asking after a brief pause, "What do you mean find a place to settle down? You came from loreal, why not go back?" She had heard of the city of thieves once or twice but was not aware of its traditions and was in fact quite curious about it.

"Well um what I mean is I want tio find a ni ce girl and have somebody to care for." I finished healing the man's leg and stood up I say in the captain's chair and sighed. "I can't go back nothing left I was too late and as far as me kicking the pirates out there around they wanted to do some unflattering things tio you things I would not and will never support." I was looking at the map on the table my face was red as a ruby.

Carla watched as Ceralis got up and moved over towards the map table. "Thats nice, im sure that girl would be very lucky." She sent him a smile.

"So what happened in Loreal? Im sorry, i can be a bit to curious for my own good." She stuck her tongue out and made a face before getting up to stand next to ceralis, glancing over the map. Turning around and resting herself against the edge of the table she looked at Ceralis and noticed his red face, "Hay Ceralis, are you okay? You got a really red face, maybe all that healing gave you a fever!" She said worridly, she had nver seen someone heal a wound like Ceralis had and she wasnt sure if it could actually a negative effect.

Carla watched as Ceralis left the room, still slightly worried about the mans red face. Turning her head she glanced at the sleeping man, sighing she approached the bed and took a seat next to him, glancing down at his leg she rolled her eye and smiled at him even though he couldn't see her, "Honestly, what type of a numpty moves around like that when he's so badly hurt." She mumbled to herself.

Looking around the room for some type of entertainment, she found herself staring at a huge bookshelf filled to the brim with old and new books, worn and rebound, filled with information about the outside world. Making her way over she pulled out a big, brown leather bound book, cracking it open only to cough as some dust blew into her face. Carla hated sitting still but maybe being able to read and sate some of her boundless curiousity would help a little.

When Valar woke up he was bound hand and foot. He lay there for a few moments Feeling oddly safe. Sure he was tied up, yet these were the first people who had not tried to outright kill him on sight in about 5 years. More than that his leg was starting to feel better. He opened his eyes and sighed. Then looked over at the girl beside him. She seemed to be looking at him with a puzzled air, book still in her hand. He just looked at her for a little while. Then he motioned to his bindings indicating that he should like to take them off. Seeing that that wouldn't work. "Where we are?" He grunted.

She spoke for a while and then he motioned at his bonds again. "Friends? Please cut me loose?"

Turning her head at the sound of movement, noticing the man had gotten loose. They stared at each other for a few seconds before the man spoke, "Where are we?"

"Your on a ship heading for the mainlands, I hope that okay with you but we didn't really get a chance to ask if you were okay coming, seeing as you were so badly hurt." She sent him a warm, comforting smile before shutting the book and replacing it on the bookshelf. "You shouldn't move around so much when your hurt." She commented offhandedly before moving over towards the man.

"Friends? Please cut me loose?" Carla smiled brightly at the mention of friends before giving a nod and making her way through the knots, beginning to untie the man.

"My names Carla, in cause you didn't hear, may I ask your name stranger?" She sent him another smile as she finished untiring the rope and helping the man to sit, refusing to let him do it alone after what he had been through today.

~Meanwhile~
Light couldn't help but chuckle at the man, "I treat her how I do because we are partners, she is the only one I will allow to talk back to me and in exchange she deals with my amazing personality." Light said arrogantly, while glancing towards the door Carla had left through. "Of course I can believe that, I would not choose as unattractive partner, it's no surprise really." Light continued vainly, not even faltering after the cold glare he was given, just watching Ceralis sit down.

"Well you really are arrogant aren't you." I gave a light chuckle and stared at the sky. I got up and have him a small smile. I walked back into the captain's room and saw Carla helping the man. "He needs tio rest and you need tio read this book." I pulled out a book called "powerrs of a heathen rider."

Jumping a little in surprise when she heard Ceralis voice she turned around to look at the book he was holding up for her. Walking over and taking it in her hands she turned it over and examined it, it was old and had been used countless times before, the pages dyed with age and crinkled with use. Flicking it open she came facet of ace with hand written words, it was old and traditional.
"Wow, this looks really amazing!" She couldn't help but grin in joy, she loved reading and if it would help her get closer with light than there wasn't much of a down side. "Thanks Ceralis, where did you get it though?" It was old and well looked after, maybe it had belonged to the previous captain?

Carla gave him a grateful smile before exiting the room, spotting Light curled up ready to go to sleep as the sun set on the horizon Carla made her way over and took a seat next to him, leaning back gently against him as she opened the book.

"What's that you got there?" He asked sleepily over her shoulder before giving a huge yawn and shaking his head, "Oh wait, I'm to tired to actually care." He finished as he lay his head back down and closed his eyes. Carla chuckled at her friend as she looked over the first chapter, "Your first steps to frying a person with lighting." Carla giggled slightly at the title before beginning to read, hoping to catch the lady few rays of light.
