Declan went from a scrawny kid to a scrawny adult, he's relatively tall, handsome, and flamboyant. He's not interested in being a stereotype, but he wears what he likes and what he's comfortable in, and that is often flashier, more "feminine" things. Declan's hair has a natural curl to it, and they've worn it in all different lengths and styles, but currently keep it fairly short, but still long enough for the curls to show. They tend to keep just a bit of facial hair, kept short for practicalities sake, though they do occasionally shave it all off. He doesn't really have any notable tattoos or piercings, but does sometimes wear a touch of makeup when he's not doing rotations. Declan has really come into themself since high school ended, and they carry themself with much more confidence than they used to.

Declan is a genuinely kind person; they'll always be there for the people they care about, and they'll do what they need to do to keep you going. They can be a little shy, so sometimes they struggle to make friends, but rest assured that once they've decided you're their friend they're not letting go of you. There are pretty great lengths that Declan would go to help and protect his friends and family, and he tends to be pretty easy to push around once he cares about you, though he's been working on boundaries and saying "no" lately. A number of people in his past have taken advantage of how easy to is to get him to do what they wanted, though, and unless and until he's willing to cut them out of his life that may never change.
Declan has always been very bright and observant, and he notices things about places and people that others may overlook or be trying to hide. For the most part he politely pretends he didn't notice things, but may bring them up if he feels like the situation warrants it. Declan has worked very hard to get where they are in life, and rightly feels very proud of themself, but they aren't a particularly prideful person. Asking Declan to brag on themself can be a bit like pulling teeth, and compliments are accepted with a shrug and and a polite "thank you," and little more. His pride is all internal, and expressing it feels awkward and wrong.
Dec has always been shy and nervous, especially in groups and even more especially in social settings. It's less pronounced with people he's used to, but it's still a bit obvious. He's better at being confident in academic and professional settings, as that's where he really feels he shines. One-on-one he's warm and kind and inviting, but in groups he can be a little closed off unless he's with his closest friends. He's also been known, on occasion, to lash out when his anxiety is at a high point.

Some of Declan's earliest memories are of Dean goading him into doing crazy and potentially dangerous things. They remember sneaking out with Dean to go to the bodega on the corner for candy, or helping Dean cheat on history tests, getting invited to birthday parties because their parents wouldn't let Dean go unless Declan was also invited. As young children, though, they were inseparable. Truly the best of friends, they did everything together for years and didn't even mind that they had to share a bedroom.
Things got more complicated as they got older. As Dean got into more trouble, Declan tried harder to impress their parents. Being non-biological, Declan felt like he had to work three times as Dean for the same amount of love and acceptance. Their parents constantly assured Declan that it wasn't true, but Declan saw the way they had different expectations for Dean, how they poured more attention into him. They knew that their adoption was kind of dropped into their parent's lap, and sometimes wondered if they regretted it. But he just continued to do his best, and sometimes pitted himself up against Dean for the love and affection that they honestly both needed and deserved. Dean would do things, sometimes; break things on purpose, hide things, steal money, eat all the snacks. Declan got blamed a lot, and for some reason they kept taking the fall for Dean's bad behavior without complaining. Declan loved his brother, and didn't mind getting into miniscule amounts of trouble if it kept their parents off Dean's back.
In highschool things got even more intense. Dean started going to parties, drinking, experimenting with drugs. A story told a million times over. He drug Declan along with him at the parent's insistence. They had the idea that Dean wouldn't get into too much trouble if Declan was there to temper him. They were wrong. Instead, Dean would do things that ranged from harmless (little pranks) to downright cruel (locking people in rooms, potentially for hours), and he'd often blame Declan for them. Declan eventually got tired of being blamed for things they didn't do and finally stood up to Dean, very publicly at a party. By that point, Declan had made some friends in the group, though, and agreed to keep coming to parties so long as Dean stopped it with the pranks and shit. Really, Declan knew that Dean was worried his friends would start liking Declan more than they liked him.
After high school, Declan went right into college, pre-med, then med school. He fell out of the group pretty early on; he was just too busy to keep up with the parties. They still showed up when they were able, but their free time dwindled down to almost nothing long before the group fully dissolved. He tries to stay in contact the best he can, and he and Dean have even worked things out and become close again. It's been nice, but Declan feels weird about it at times. They feel like they've done a lot of growing while Dean has stayed the same. He's recently gotten back in contact with a few members of the old group and formed new friendships that they hadn't had before. It's wonderful, and he's loving seeing them grow.

In his last few years of high school, Declan took the (and otherwise helped people cheat on) SAT test for several people. Dean helped set everything up, and they split the money between them evenly, even though Declan was doing most of the work. Lauren was one of those people, and for a long time they equally held it over one-another's heads, but now Lauren is at a place in her life where it doesn't really matter anymore. Declan has never felt guilty about what he did, but now he's worried about what may happen if Lauren decides to rat him out. It could ruin his entire future, and he's not so sure it was worth making a couple hundred bucks if she does.
He smokes. He knows it's bad and stupid, but he does. Don't tell anyone.
