He lay there motionless surrounded by the long weeds and plants that had grown over the decades unattended to, looking down a long narrow street from the roof of an old fast food restaurant. The Lone Sniper, unmatched in his skills with a rifle in this desolate wasteland, waiting for his prey. He could wait there for days alone, silent. There was no need for friends for this man, he had been alone for many years, only seeing the odd wastelander pass his sights. There wasn't much need for friends in his life it was a matter of survive or be killed. He knew this city better than most, where to find supplies, where to hide and what hideous monstrosities that it held.

Then he saw it, his next meal, a rabbit, it wasn't a feast but he knew how to make it last. The rifle barrel poked out of the overgrown weeds ready to fire on the unsuspecting rabbit that was chowing down on some grass. The snipers finger started to pull back the trigger, but he held back hearing voices in the distance. His head looked around, then further back behind the rabbit he saw two people approaching each other in a small clearing. He focused his scope on the two, both looked young, teenagers. One male and the other female. He looked closely thinking "what the hell are they doing out in the open like that, the're going to get themselves killed". The sniper changed position to get a better sight, moving from the roof of the fast food restaurant and going other to a small apartment building closer too the two oblivious wastelanders. He looked to see if they were armed, he could see a knife on the girl but she looked calm, the boy less so, he had a bow and arrow aimed at the girl. He thought to himself "this could get interesting". But there was movement not from the two young souls, but behind the girl in the rubble, it was a Stalker, one of the many beasts of New York, that fed on the unsuspecting people of the wastes, following them for fun scaring them, by cackling in the darkness and moving around their next meal, until it made a savage attack on its prey. They used to be people but the radiation allowed them to mutate and grow fangs that match a walrus and claws of tigers. They were skinny and sly which helped them sneak without detection. Despite the impending doom that the two teenagers would fall too, the sniper did not help yet, he watched to see how they would react if the Stalker attacked.

The Stalker burst out of the rubble and started to jump onto surrounding buildings sizing up its prey, it then landed on the ground watching the both of them and the large wolf, snarling and gritting its teeth. The Sniper readied himself to fire, but he waited, he could have killed it there and then but he was curious to see if the two young travelers would fight it. He thought to himself "Come on what are you doing? Kill it!". The beast looked them up and down with its ghastly yellow eyes, just watching.

Then it pounced at the girl, arms stretched wide ready to rip her too pieces, screeching at her seeing her as the weaker of the two as the boy had the wolf. There was a loud bang and the Stalker fell back to the ground lifeless. Smoke rose from the rifle as it had just fired on the mutation. The Sniper smiled, lit a cigar and whispered to himself "Perfect hit" as the bullet had pierced the Stalkers skull. He pulled out an infrared light and shined it at the two to show them where he was inviting them over to the building holding a white cloth over the end of his rifle to show he was not a danger, well not to them at least.

The Sniper watched the two travelers, they seemed unharmed and strangely the boy didn't seem to care about the whole incident and calmly walked away from the scene. The girl seemed however more shocked until which looked like a small bird flew down which calmed her down a bit. The Sniper continued to wave the cloth on the rifle to get her attention. It started to get late in the day, the sky was getting darker as the sun was setting, and he knew that it was very dangerous at night because the beasts of the subway and sewers crawled from the darkness and into the city looking for food and slaughtering anything they see.

The Sniper saw the girl notice the cloth as she started to move towards him watching him. As she got close he shouted "Halt!"from the window aiming the rifle at her for caution. "Hold your weapons out in your hands and you may come in, if not i will fire on you and hurry up we are running out of daylight" he said to the girl.

Addy drew near. "Halt," a deep voice commanded. She stopped. She was directed to draw out her weapons. Cocking her head and putting Harris down, she took out her pocket knifes out of her pockets, and her thigh-strapped knifes out from her pants. From her pack, she emptied a small blade. She was a knife person. Obviously.
Addy wasn't near any of her hideouts, and the guy was right. It was getting dark. Too dark to reach the nearest hideout, anyways. Plus, she was caught off guard from the beast earlier, she wasn't sure how sensible going anywhere would be. Harris took the moment to chow down on the mouse as Addy shook of the feeling of unease with a small glance behind her. Clearing her throat, she asked if she could enter with an added that's what she said in her mind to keep the air of compatibility. some things from the past could bring people together. With tension, Addy would try to lighten a situation with jokes. Like now, she knew that there are so few things to laugh at. She smiled. Enduring this life was better than dying...wasn't it?

The Sniper came down to the main doors of the apartment building and ushered the girl inside seeing that she probably wouldn't be of any harm to him and closed them behind her, barring them shut. "That was pretty risky out there what you did, standing out in the open like that" he said to the young woman, as he checked out the windows seeing if anything was around, "You don't want to be hanging around here at night best that we stay here for now, if you thought that Stalker was bad, you should see some of the things at night in this city".

They were in a hallway of the apartment building, a room to the lefts door was open, "Come on this will be better than sleeping out in the hallway". He walked in checked out the room making sure nothing was in there, it was empty. He pulled two chairs up for himself and the girl to sit in, into the middle of the living room, dropping his bag in between the both of them. He leaned his rifle up against the chair, then started pulling some water and bread from the bag handing some to the girl. "So, whats your name and what are you doing in New York?" he said as he drank some water.

When the voice decides you're worthy, you'll have shelter, Addy thought to herself. She was joking, of course. She knew it had nothing to do with worthiness, but more along the lines of threats. Was she a threat to this man? Would she, in his sleep, kill him? No, Addy knew. Unless he's a real asshole.
She listened to him speak, ending with "you should see some of the things at night in this city." A bead of sweat dripped down her lower back as she recalled some of her previous vicious attackers. "I know," she mumbled under her breath. They turned left into a room and the man looked at the room closely...checking for what? Addy thought. In moments, he had two chairs pulled together, but not quite facing one another. His gun rested on his own chair, and he was already sitting, with his bag dropped at his feet. Addy felt the coolness of the chair underneath her. Harris had jumped onto her lap the moment she sat. Addy had completely forgotten Harris was there, walking beside or behind her on the way in. He purred as Addy declined the bread and water. "I won't take it unless you'll take some of my food." She had been the best share-er when she was young. She could still remember her mother explicitly telling her so.
She grabbed the meat and a good couple stalks of bean, lettuce, and fresh-growing plants. "I'm Addy. Moved to New York with my mum when I was ten. What's your story?"
Addy was still pretty much a child. She had been raising herself for some time now. Her mum died when she was around thirteen, her father was nowhere to be seen since birth, and she walked the streets finding out the new world for herself. She knew "what's your story" might have been an odd question, but in time, if you listen closely, you find out all the things you would have asked about anyways.

[ooc: Sorry about the wait. Really busy with the holidays and having to work doubles. x3]

The Sniper watched funny looking hawk cautiously and has learned not to trust many of the mutations in this city but then thought that the girl was harmless enough so paid no mind to the creature. He kindly accepted her offer of the food and took some of the meat seeing as he missed out on his hunt. "My name is Ryan, i've been in this hell hole since I was born and i've never left. I lost my family when I was 14 and that's all you need to know" he replied sternly. Ryan hated talking about his past and himself, he kept it to himself, only a select few have been told about his story. Surviving is his story now. He reached into his bag and pulled out a pistol and handed it to Addy, "Here, those knives aren't going to help you much against the beasts out there and from what I saw you might need this with the way you reacted to that Stalker".

He took a small sip of water and heard screams of creatures in the night, "You were lucky that I found you when I did, the mutants have been a lot more volatile lately and it seems like there's more of them. There's a bedroom through that door you can take it, i'll keep watch" he said. Ryan pulled a cigar from his pocket and lit it, he looked down at his rifle, "come on Lisa lets get to work" he said as he stood up and took his chair and rifle over to the window and sat down quietly. Ryan felt that he should let Addy rest seeing as she had almost met an untimely end.

Hphm. He's not a talker, this one. Addy thought to herself. Quite alright.
"A Stalker...is that what that thing was called?" Addy said as Ryan took a sip of water. Ryan explained about the mutants a little bit, offered up a room, then lit up. Walking to the window, Addy didn't see what his fuss was about. What was the watch for? She walked over to him and quickly took the cigar from his mouth and sucked in the life of the cherry, then gave it back.
"Tell me when it is my watch," she said and walked to the open room. Harris followed.

"Yeah that was a Stalker, vicious little bastards and they don't care for mercy much. I've given names to a lot of the mutants around here" Ryan replied. He looked out of the window into the dark city hearing fighting and the odd gunshot, "Someone must have stayed out in the night". He took a drag from the cigar and then Addy took it from his mouth and smoked it herself, Ryan smiled and then continued to watch outside. Ryan replied to her "Don't worry I will let you know".

Ryan kept thinking to himself about what had happened during the day, this was the last thing he had expected to happen. Why did he help her? He's let people die in the streets before and just left them and got on with life, but there was something different about Addy, she wasn't like most wastelanders. For a girl her age to survive for that long on her own was amazing. A few hours later Ryan went to wake up Addy to let her go on watch, he opened the door and saw her fast asleep holding her mutant friend close. "It's probably been hard for her being alone not being able to have a proper nights sleep without being one edge" Ryan thought. He let her sleep and went back to the window smoking his cigar.

The sun started to rise and the mutants of the night started to crawl back to the subways and sewers. It was safer outside now, well as safe as this city could get.

When Addy woke, she found herself sprawled out horizontally across the bed with Harris by her face. So much for wariness in such a devastating place to live, she thought ironically. After that thought, it took a couple moments to remember yesterday's fiasco and last night's deal that she would take watch. Though she felt wonderfully rested, having watch seemed to mean something to this man, so she figured she'd check up on him. If he was there. Maybe he left already?
She walked quietly out of the room, and sure enough she didn't see him. Addy felt some kind of disappointment, and looked again, just to be sure and remembered that she was in a completely different room than she had left him in. She walked down the hall and saw him, just as he was when she left him. She made her footsteps a little louder so he could hear her approaching. She couldn't tell whether he was asleep or awake, but in either case, sneaking up on a man who is already on watch is no good idea.
