Adelina

"I feel like a bird in a cage."

0 · 466 views · located in The House of Dreams

a character in “The Leatus Dominionate Remake”, as played by SomeoneNamedNo-one

Description

Age: 23
Gender: Female
Appearance: Back when she was in the human world, she was a a rather petite girl. Her hair was the brightest thing about her, being an luminous shade of red. Her eyes were dark brown, and her eyelashes framed them strangely, being hardly visible. But she began to change in the Dream world. She grew taller, and willowy. Her hair became a prettier auburn, but stripes of black and white began to appear, making her look more bizarre than beautiful. Her eyes were the last to change. Every now and then, flashes of green appear in them, marking them out to be feline eyes.

Personality: She can be very fierce and territorial. She's blunt and honest, and expects the same from the people she interacts with. That being said, she looks for approval from peers, and in a twisted manner, Manera. She's frustrated that she's pent up in the dream world, and is dying to get out. She's dignified, but very competitive, especially when it comes to striving for Manera's attention.

History: Adelina is from London, 1840. She was a servant in a high household before Manera came to her. Being competitive, she won her way into the highest role a lady servant could have; Housekeeper. But that was her fall. From there, she met her lady's fiancé, Sir William. Sir William was all politeness with Adelina, until, without meaning to, she fell in love with him. She made sure his clothes were perfectly ironed and ready, and assigned him the house's best valet, amongst other things. Shortly after, Sir William realized her feelings, and took advantage of Adelina's naïvety. Their affair did not last long; Lady Margaret soon found them out and threw Adelina out to the street without a recommendation. That was when Manera came to her. Adelina, without thinking, begged her to give her the position of Lady Margaret.
At first, Adelina enjoyed it. Everyone answered to her, and seemed to totally forget about Lady Margaret, or the fact that she, herself, was of a lower class. Sir William was generous and kind, yet somewhat lacking in closeness with her. Everything was different as the lady of the house. She had to behave differently, the servants were no longer her friends. But during her year of perfection, she had a lavish wedding, and a month later she realized she was with child. But time was drawing to a close. She fell asleep for the last time, two months into here pregnancy and woke up in Manera's land.

Your animal form: In animal form, her roar is deafening. She's a very large tiger, with black stripes and a white underbelly. Her hearing and smell is sharpened to a whole new level. She sharpens her claws every time she's in animal form. Her eyes are jade green and intelligent, showing her human side.

Any other skills: Adelina is good at surprising people, which works well in a fight. Shes also good at understanding people and guessing their next move. She can speak French somewhat, although she doesn't like it. She's fairly educated for a servant, being able to read and write.

So begins...

"You all had great needs when I came to you" the Goddess spoke softly, her voice echoing around her manor so everyone could hear - not loudly, though, it was almost as if she was standing right beside Jamie, whispering in his ear. "And I took those needs away. I granted you your desires and in return you shall grant mine." Her eyes swept over them, passing, for a moment, over Jamie, who blushed deep red as they fell upon him. He was enraptured by her presence, her words, her magnificence. "I am but a lonely Goddess. My halls no longer fill with laughter and banter, and my wish is that you keep my hall company that you fill these halls with your voices, your forms. I am your master now. My wish... is that you become my pets." With that she beamed a wide, bright grin and sat back down.

Jamie sat there for a moment, his mouth wide, his eyes filled with doubt, his entire being in a state of perfect disbelief, disbelief so perfect, it was almost rage. Had Manera said any other word than pet, Jamie would have been perfectly complacent. Children, subjects, and even servants Jamie would have been, for the most part, ok with. Pets were animals. Pets were non-sentient creatures one kept because they amused them, a paltry term for living, breathing, thinking human beings. Jamie couldn't even express his outrage, his fear, his disbelief. Jamie couldn't form words. He sat there, stupidly, his mouth now clenched shut, his eyes beginning to water, and his voice drowning underneath a torrent of emotions he couldn't verbalize.

Finally, after some time, during which the others finished stating their concerns and their own opinions, Jamie finally spoke, standing up and turning directly towards Manera. "What about our families?" He asked, his voice barely a whispered squeak. "What about the people we've left behind. Our friends? Our families? What happened to them? What will happen now that we're gone?" Jamie started slowly, gaining volume and confidence until he was finally screaming, his emotions pouring out him without his consent. Tears were streaming down his face, and there was no holding them back. "How are they? Do they still remember us? What will they think when they wake up the next morning and we're all gone?" Finally, after the flood of questions escaped his mouth, Jamie collapsed onto his knees and put his head in his hands, sobbing.

Tarani quickly looked to the front where she noticed Manera had stood. She mentioned their past and what she had done. Although she heard every syllable the Goddess said, one thing stuck out for Tarani. "My wish... is that you become my pets." This thoroughly delighted her. This was exactly what Tarani had assumed and looked forward to in her life. Eyes glanced around at the others, most of them looking disappointed or even scared. Brows furrowed , thinking that the others were ungreatful. However, Tarani too had her own questions.

Eyes looked upon Jamie, whom asked the last of the questions. She thought a moment, then smiled. " They're gone forever. You're forever gone to them. Get used to it, kid. " Eyes darted back to Manera, as if asking her if she had spoken correctly. After a moment of staring at the Goddess, she spoke her own questions. " Had you said there would be other's Goddess?" Her brows furrowed again, showcasing clear anger at this thought. Once again, Tarani had thought she would be the only one at Manera's side and so she had prepared herself to do so. " I feel your beauty has all but decieved me.... " She trailed off a moment, as if realizing something. Eyes looked away and to the ground, softly muttering to herself, " ... into a false love." She could not explain it any other way. Over the past year, as she developed her needs to be able to care for Manera as she assumed was asked for her, she thought that perhaps she developed a type of Love for the Goddess. Betrayel was the word that echoed through her mind. The only thing that Tarani approved of the current situation was that she would still be her pet. She would have to share with the others, but still do Manera's bidding as she had hoped.

Unfortunately, despite Tarani's intelligence, she could not make the detail out completely. Being a pet was being someone's slave. This she approved of. Had she not been so intertwined in feelings of the Goddess, she may have figured it out. She may have finally realized, pet was not a term, but an exact representation of what the Goddess truly desired.

Adelina waited patiently until Manera graced her with Her smile. And when she finally received Her attention, Adelina felt like she was the most loved creature in existence, a feeling she had never even dreamt of feeling in all her petty life on Earth. And all of a sudden, the smile was swept away, and she slumped back into her chair in a very unladylike manner. She was still in Her presence though, and could not say she was unhappy. She just wanted Manera to look at her again, recognize her existence and like it enough that She smiled.

And when she spoke, Adelina was enraptured. She listened to every word. Tears rose to her eyes when she heard that Manera felt lonely - Such a good, kind soul should never have to feel such pain. She paused and listened carefully to how she could ease the Goddess's pain. I'll be her pet? Adelina thought dizzily. Why, that means we're going to be her dears, isn't it?

A broad smile stretched across her face, and she looked around at the others to see their reactions. She noted with surprise that Gunter and the Captain looked uneasy. They mustn't have understood. Perhaps English was different from where they were from! At least, I believe she is speaking English.., Adelina thought, in confusion. Jaime began to cry, crying out about his abandoned family. Adelina wanted to hug him, but she knew that was a ridiculous thought. She couldn't embrace a near stranger, no matter what age. Tarani spoke next. She still retained her dreadful countenance, even in the company of the Goddess. Adelina stood up next. "I would love to be your friend, dear Manera. I would be honored beyond anything." She curtsied and then looked around expectantly, expected the others to speak next.

Looking at young Gunter, she put her hand to her belly as a habit, to cradle the slowly swelling bump that was her child. She froze, hand over her belly button. She looked down in disbelief. Where a bump used to be, was nothing more than a slim stomach. She pressed both her hands to her middle frantically as if she just misplaced it and could find it. The was nothing. Now, terror cut through her happiness. Where is my child?! She felt like screaming. She could feel herself becoming hysterical. How could she have lost her child? The was no blood, nothing! Her son or daughter was inside her just yesterday, listening to their mother croon to them!

She allowed herself to fall back into her chair, and moaned aloud in total grief. She simply couldn't care that she was creating a scene, that these strangers would think her insane. All of her happiness was ripped away from her, and in place was a feeling of loss, one greater than she ever felt before. She wasn't mistaken. Her child had disappeared. She should have noticed it before. She should have felt it immediately, the lack of her little darling that she was supposed to protect through her own flesh and blood. Yet now she felt it all. She was only one now, no child was cocooned within her. Tears began to cascade down her cheeks, and she rocked herself backwards and forwards, cradling her wanting stomach.

The goddess Manera smirked as they went into uproar. Watching the poor kid James, she remained unaffected by his pleas. "You did not ask the terms of your contract when you made it. To make assumptions is silly." she said to them, a grin playing upon her fair face. "They have forgotten you. You, effectually, no longer exist. Don't be worried." she cooed, putting up the facade of beneficence once more. "They will not grieve. Of course if you do not accept I could make an exception." she lead him on as she saw the tears in his eyes. She walked towards him, going about halfway down the stairs as she beamed down at him. "I'll take it away, everything you wished for. I'll put you back to where you were. I'll put you back exactly one year. For one person only, I will make this exception." She looked around, waiting for a reply.
Yuan Ying'e stepped forward. "I will take it, goddess." she said softly. "I have no desire to become your pet for any price."
Manera looked surprised. No one had ever taken her offered out before. Nevertheless, she granted her wish. "It shall be done as you have requested." she responded, and slowly Yuan Ying'e faded from view. What Manera didn't say was this would count as another wish, to put everything back. And if Yuan Ying'e was unwilling to pay the price, well she would have to take someone else as payment, someone close, someone special to the chosen. And realistically she could put her back in whatever situation she wanted. She could make her worse off than she had been before or change her fate to something else. She could put her whereever she wanted. Of course, she would never tell her this. Often humans so blinded by their emotions rarely asked for the terms to her agreements. In the years that she had lived, Manera had never met a one that would beat her and she bet she never would.
Manera next turned to Tarani. There was always one. she thought. One who thought she was the only one. Manera spoke to her. "I apologize for any misunderstandings, but as I said before, to make assumptions is silly." Then the tall woman stood up and voiced her misunderstood joy. But then her hand went to her stomach. This was the moment Manera had been waiting for. The woman swooned, bawling and rocking back and forth. Manera's cold smile remained. "Good-bye, my pets. I will be watching over you." And she slowly faded from view, leaving them to their sufferings.

Gunter looked up at the goddess as she explained that they were forgotten, non-existent. At first, he was at least a little okay with this. But then he thought of Anna. The beloved Gesundheitsdienst who had taken care of him in the infirmary. A sweet, caring face smiling at him. Long, blonde braids under a cap and a splash of freckles on fair skin. Deep, brave grey eyes that threatened to envelope him. Now they were all gone. He would never see her again. He fought back tears. He wanted to scream at the goddess, but he choked on the lump in his throat. He stood up to attack her, run at her, and tear her limb from limb, but he knew it was impossible. Then she offered the out. He almost took it, but then he thought about what it meant. It meant he would be a Nazi again, back in the trenches of the Battle of Berlin, fighting the Russians and trying to protect his love, Anna, who had joined illegally, pretending to be a boy. He shuddered. He would never participate in that regime again. Yuan Ying'e took the out anyway. Then Tarani said something that he didn't quite hear, and Adelina swooned. She began to cry and rock back and forth. He wasn't sure what had happened, but he walked quickly over and gave her a hug. He felt powerless, like an animal caught in a trap. He glared at the goddess, rage blazing in his eyes as he held the grief-stricken Adelina. It was heart-breaking. Slowly the hateful apparition faded from view and Gunter looked back at Adelina, trying to determine what had destroyed her so.

While crying, Jamie almost didn't even hear Tarani speak to him. What he did hear, only made his sorrow deper. He turned to manera, his gaze almost pleading with her, begging her to tell him it wasn't so. To tell him he could go home and see his family again. However, Jamie realized he wasn't exactly in the best position to ask for such things. He had basically just finished screaming at her. He wasn't expecting anything. That was when Manera turned to him. A foul smirk playing across her face. "You did not ask the terms of your contract when you made it. To make assumptions is silly." With those words, Jamie felt his heart shatter. Everything he'd done, he'd done blindly. He was a fool. He deserved what he was getting. A punishment for his weakness. As she spoke, he felt a blackness envelope his heart. Her words causing him to wince with each syllable as she spoke. He words felt like blows, each one forcing him deeper into sadness. "They have forgotten you. You, effectually, no longer exist. Don't be worried." She cooed, putting up the facade of beneficence once more. "They will not grieve. Of course if you do not accept I could make an exception." She said. Jamie looked up, blinkng back the tears in his eyes as he walked towards him, going about halfway down the stairs, she beamed down at him. "I'll take it away, everything you wished for. I'll put you back to where you were. I'll put you back exactly one year. For one person only, I will make this exception." She looked around, waiting for a reply.

For a moment, Jamie's heart soared. He could go back! He could see his family again. If he did, however, his wish would be reversed. He would still be a nobody, he would have no friends, no life, and no future. Jamie shook his head sadly. He didn't want to go back, but he couldn't stay either. He heart was rent in two.

Just as he was about to speak up, declaring that he would use the out, Yuan Ying'e stepped forward. "I will take it, goddess." she said softly. "I have no desire to become your pet for any price." Manera looked surprised. It was almost as if no one had ever taken her offered out before. Nevertheless, she granted her wish. "It shall be done as you have requested." The goddess cooed, and at that, Yuan disappeared, her body simply vanishing into the air. Jamie was deadened to the world, his thoughts on one word alone. Death. Why stick around? Why give her the satisfaction? Jamie had tried to kill himself once, he could always try again, just like his bullies had encouraged when they'd found the scars on his wrists. Jamie stood as she finished addressing the others. "Good-bye, my pets. I will be watching over you." She said. "Fuck you..." Jamie whispered as she faded from sight. When she left, he walked outside the throne room, its charms had worn off. The whole world was dead to Jamie. It suited him. He was going to die anyway, why should anything else be bright? Jamie knew that suicides were banished to hell, but even that seemed better than this limbo, caught between life and death.

In the midst of her maddened grief, Adelina felt a child's arms wrap around her. She stiffened, unable to tell whether she had gone mad or it was actually a child. She opened her eyes, and saw the wide eyes of the boy, Gunther, looking as if he was trying to understand her seemingly reasonless outburst. There was no judgement there, he didn't think her insane. Hesitantly, she raised her arms and leant on him heavily. Grief weighed on her just as heavy as before, but she was past tears now.

After a few moments, she was able to sit up again. She stroked Gunther's cheek, then sat back in her chair. Looking around, she realized three were gone; Manera, the empress, and Mr. Maddock. She couldn't believe the Goddess of Love had left her in her pain. Couldn't she have comforted her, like even the child thought to do? She rubbed her eyes, rubbing away the tears. It felt as no matter how had she rubbed, her cheeks were unceasing damp. She gave up and looked at the others.

"Forgive me." She said, her voice rough. "I quite lost myself. It won't happen again." She didn't know whether or not to explain to their her distress. Perhaps her loss of control disgusted the Goddess. But Adelina's blind belief in the goddess was slowly fading. Her grief for her child was stronger than Manera's magick. She tried standing up, but her legs were too weak yet. "Were we given instructions?" She asked, attempting to sound normal.
